Game 81: Bart’s Back
ByIt’s been 22 days since Bartolo Colon hurt hamstring, but he says he’s ready to pitch nine innings today. Of course the team won’t let him, they’re going to limit him to just 80-85 pitches after he threw 61 in a simulated game five days ago. Given the way he pitched before the injury, 80 pitches might mean seven innings, which would be pretty cool. Here’s the lineup…
Brett Gardner, LF
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Russell Martin, C
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Bartolo Colon, SP
It’s a FOX broadcast, so you’ll get to enjoy the dynamic announcing tandem of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver when the game begins shortly after 4pm ET. Enjoy.

Bartolo-mania returns.
When I look at Bartolo, for some reason I can’t help but be reminded of Baron Silas Greenback.
http://www.israellycool.com/baron%20silas.gif
no dude, its luca brossi
Go Yankees?
2nd best?
?
They said Teix was 2nd in home runs.
Shit. Bats hit a homer today nvm.
Bautista gets the edge on grit factor due to the facial hair.
But isn’t he Hispanic? He has facial hair and Teixeira is white. I thought that would be a wash.
Bautista went yard today
Oh, didn’t know that. Oh, well.
I don’t trust anything “Fox” tells me anyway.
Thankfully Hooters on 56th St. doesn’t play game volume
this is the one and only FOX/ESPN exclusive broadcast for July, thank god.
Cal Ripken Jr looks just like Steve Wilkos.
OMG
3.6 BB/9 and only 6.0 K/9.
Well, I know what that should mean…
7 IP, 2 H, 0 R?
Wow, nice play, Murphy.
The fact that Brett is constantly bunting right now is concerning me because he has been slumping.
Great. A changeup thrower that the Yankees have never seen before…
DOOMED.
Anyone watching Fox having problem with audio?
Yeah, I keep hearing Buck and McCarver.
change up strike three, lol
Gee’s got a great change
Wow Tex K’d on a changeup didn’t see that coming…
The sound on Fox is terrible. I’m not just referring to Buckcarver talking. The sound is fading and it’s terrible.
The sound onFox is terrible.I’m not just referring to Buckcarver talking. The sound is fading and it’s terrible.Fixed
Wait for more. you will hear how Reyes walks on water and turns water into wine. #mccarverd
What a shocker, Tex misses a change up
Nice we’re gonna get change up’d to death
Where did that pitch miss?
Ummm that was the most obvious strike ever.
I don’t why a pitcher would throw Tex anything but off speed/change ups. He will bite everytime.
that 0-2 was a perfect pitch, should have been a strikeout
I hate automatic 0-2 ball calls and 3-0 strike calls.
Umm that’s crap because he actually struck out on 3 pitches?
Ump made Bart throw 5 extra pitches. thats 2 outs later in the game Bart doesn’t get
Is this a new Fox box? I don’t recall it because it looks weird to me.
If you don’t have HD, the picture on Fox is terrible. There are black bars on the top and bottom. It’s terrible.
Do I have to explain that to you?
Exlplain what? Yes doesn’t have that.
It’s called letterboxing.
It’s because they don’t change the HD picture. Trust me when I say you’re not missing anything due to those black bars.
Oh okay. Thanks.
No problem. Sorry to have sounded snippy, I used to work in a video store and hated when people objected to the black bars in widescreen VHS/DVD because they thought it made the picture smaller and even after I showed them proof of how they would see more of the picture, they still insisted I was wrong.
Oh it’s no problem. I actually prefer the widescreen look as opposed to the fullscreen look for movies. But with a baseball game, I feel it looks weird and the gamescores running across the bottom are distracting.
that was filthy.
Bartolo!
El Barto strikes again
Seriously don’t know where Turner thought that pitch missed.
This doesn’t seem like old Bart.
A lot of off speed.
Fox saying Posada and Cervelli are bad catchers…shocking
Umm…they are bad catchers
Another example of Fox being “Captain Obvious.”
Fox HD is out for me and the sound on the SD isn’t working at all. I hate Fox
Uhh. The sound? I would be greatful it didnt work. Why would you want to listen to the 2 asshats Fox call broadcasters?
Is Colon’s fastball missing some life or speed to it?
They’ve had him hitting 94.
Gotcha, I just caught the last few seconds of that inning.
4 seam sits around 88-90, 2 seam 92-95
I think you have that backwards. The two-seamer should be the slower pitch.
Ugh, Nunez’s defense strikes again.
Oh, Nunie.
fucking Nunez
but wow what a fucking pitch, good to see that 2 seamer is alive and well
God fucking damnit Nunez
Oh, Nunez
NunEEEEEEEEEEEEz. But he can hit.
Fucking Nunez
Hopefully Nunie limits that dropped throw to his only error of this game.
Where’s nunez fan when I want to yell at him?
Watch Robbie, Nunez
Nunez got screened by the ump and lost sight of the ball for a second
Everytime Tim McCarver speaks, the words “Thank you, Captain Obvious” comes out of my mouth. He is such an idiot. “Reyes should be running right now. I dont know why he isnt.” No shit, sherlock. Shut the hell up already! GAH! I really hate these 2 schmucks.
The best is when he gets fascinated by some random fact or object and just rambles on about it for a whole inning.
“Joe, have you heard about this internet thing? You can look up pictures and information and actually talk to other people on it! It’s amazing. I’ve heard rumors that you can even send mail on it. Truly unbelieveable.”
The funny thing is that I can actually picture him saying that.
So is Bo Jackson considered the worst player ever to make the All-Star game by FOX Sports?
The announcer at the top of the broadcast referenced past All-Star games and the players who have made the game, saying something like players, “From Babe Ruth down to Bo Jackson, and everyone in between.” Sure, no one will argue with Babe Ruth at the top, but really, Bo Jackson at the bottom?!
Don’t pay attention to anything said by Fox.
You’ll be smarter.
I know. I just was amazed (well, not really) that they annoyed me with the first reference in the broadcast.
They annoy me by existing, so…
Bartolo looking good
Jeter can not get back soon enough.
Say what you want about Jeter’s hitting and range. He’s spoiled us over the years by nearly never making mistakes. Noonie has made that so clear
yeah of course they show a Met fan…
Colon looks like he dropped a few pounds
There’s a joke in there somewhere…
From his upper body to his lower body.
He really does look thinner, on the other half CC is back tonthe big look
Cano has been disappointing so far this year. (compared to his usual standards)
Robbie made me home sick for jeter on that gidp
Uhh, memo to Fox, this isnt Boston. You are not broadcasting a Boston game. Fuhgeddaboutit? Really, guys? I have seriously had it with Fox MLB broadcasting. UGH! This is why come playoff time, the games should be simulcasted. Nationally on Fox and TBS, but blacked out in areas the game is on regionally. It would be me so much happier.
What does Boston have to do with it?
They used Fuhgeddaboutit as a key to the game? I never hear a New Yorker say that. But I always hear the asshats in Boston say it.
I understand its dumb and cliche, but you do understand that its a term linked to Brooklyn right?
isnt that a local term?
So does anyone know why citifield has 16 ft fences in the power alleys? Did they think the ball was going to fly out of the new place
Who knows. Citi Field is an embarrasement to baseball stadiums, IMO. When the deepest part of your stadium also has the tallest wall in your stadium, you know you’ve got issues. You already have to murder the ball for it to be a HR out there. No reason to make it even harder.
Shiti field
Dimensionally, yes it’s an embarassment. However, people I know have said that they think the stadium is very nice and the food is good.
They can do what george did in the 80s and move up home plate 20 ft, looks like its only 10 ft now. That would put Arods hit ladt night out.
It was made by Fred Wilpon, why would you expect it to make any sense?
Well so far Gee has basically threw changeups in the important counts. That’s not good.
Ken Rosenthal is such a creeper. Look at his bowtie. Ugh. What a loser.
He’s doing it for charity so he gets a pass.
They’re for charity:
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/s.....son-032911
But yeah, can’t stand the little guy.
Oh. That’s nice of him. He’s still a creeper, the bowties notwithstanding.
Alright, Ken Rosenthal. Leave to bowties to Dhani Jones, please. You got no swag.
It’s for charities.
I know it is. Why do you think I mentioned Dhani Jones? He just looks awful.
Just because Dhani Jones looks silly with the bow ties.
So so far they interviewed two Met fans and one Red Sox fan (three Yankee haters) and one Yankee fan. And, btw, try going to a Boston bar wearing a Yankee shirt.
Have I mentioned I hate the Red Sox?
I have a coworker who is from Boston who keeps complaining that Yankee fans are mean and I’m always like have you met a Red Sox game?
Er Red Sox fan. I got distracted by the game.
Reyes is out of the game.
I’v ebeen impressed with Colon’s location so far. I thought it would be rusty. Still his endurance my come into question considering how the bullpen was used yesterday.
Reyes is out of the game!
Uh oh, Reyes.
Reyes out………
What? When did they mention Reyes was injured? Must have missed that.
Get well soon Jose
Just wait until Monday to return to the field
Reyes is hurt? That’s literally the worst-case scenario for the Mets.
God damnit Nunez. Now Bartolo will bunt…
Nunez for DH!
I hope this is a joke, number 1. Number 2, if its not, may I present to you Jorge Posada and if he gets hurt, Jesus Montero.
It was a joke.
My issue with Nunie is defense.
Hahaha. Reyes is hurt. Is there any real surprise here? I mean, he does have a history of injuries.
Remember Colon played in Montreal so he has been to the plate.
Colon burning it up running to 1st
Great job Bartolo!
That was a hell of a bunt. For the first time ever I was thinking, “Don’t run hard.” Gardner would have beaten that out.
Hamstring and all, I still think Colon could beat Jorge Posada in a race
The infield was in, Nunez.
Terrible baserunning
Oh geez.
Brett not getting the job done.
Nunez’s fault. With the infield in, gotta make sure that gets through.
He was hitting .294 and he’s now down into the upper .260s. For a hitter of his style, he’s a bit streaky.
He’s now 4 for his last 33, and at least 2 of those 4 were bunts. He’s in a slump again, hopefully he comes out of it soon.
Why did nunez go?
Bad Nunez
Bad baserunning.
Guys it was a contact play. Gardner usually puts the ball in play.
Yes. But anyone would tell you the baserunner is still supposed to watch the play develop and also know the allignment of the fielders.
Baserunners should also know scouting reports. Like that Duda is primarily an OF now.
When the infield is in you have to wait to see if the ball gets through before you break for the plate.
Nunez was out by a mile. You can’t waste chances like that.
Ummm, Nunez, there are times I wonder if you have any baseball IQ. That was one of them.
By the way, how can Ken Rosenthal claim that Reyes’ reputation as being injury prone is unfair?
He’s missed significant time in almost half of the seasons in his career!
Why is everybody getting on Nunez. IT WAS A CONTACT PLAY. We see it all the time. Gardner just hit it right to someone.
Bad strategy then since the infield was in.
He’d score easily if it got through.
Then its bad luck because Gardner hit it right to somebody. The infield being in increses the odds for a hit. I know Nunez is bad defensively but dont get on him for bad luck.
Umm you are also supposed to watch the play develop. No matter the situation. If Gardner lined out, it would have been a DP.
I’m saying it was a bad coaching decision to have him go on contact. He wouldn’t make that decision himself.
Then blame the third base coach. Dont blame Nunez.
He should be able to recognize that as well.
With one out and the infield in, you wait to see if the ball gets through before you break for the plate. Always.
Of course.
Just saying it was a CONTACT PLAY doesn’t mean it’s not a terrible play.
It’s real simple. If the ball gets through Nunez scores easily even if he waits. So why go on contact?
Shhhhhhhhhh! It’s easier to blame Nunez for everything!
Egritome of hustle
I think that’s five or six in a row for Gardy. Hopefully he’s back on track stealing.
Thole sUcks can we get gee and parnell for jesus
I don’t want either of those guys.
I miss yankee relievers who can throw in triple digits
So you want a starter and Bobby Parnell, 2 players who dont throw triple digits, for Jesus Montero? That doesnt make any sense.
Oh and please dont say Parnell does. He does not do it consistently. Only on occasion. Hes normally high 90′s.
Love guys with a career WHIP in excess of 1.5.
Gee does a great job? Their 1B saved him by playing in and making that play. And Nunie probably should’ve stayed at third anyway.
Fox’s superb analysis again…
Colon hasn’t missed a beat
Admit it you all held your breath on that throw by Nuneeeez
Everytime he gets the ball!
I have a crush on Bartolo.
Assuming Gee is an All-Star already?
Bartolo looks sharp today
Colon has just been sick this year.
Bartolo’d
I am shocked Colon is not rusty. Happily shocked, but shocked nonetheless.
Colon lost weight i dont see the shirt potatoes henhad early in the season
Bartolo, my Fangraphs Pick Six team thanks you.
Colon technically hasn’t given up a hit (Reyes technically struck out)
If he got hurt on the bases many a Met fan will regret it was called a ball
I missed Bartolo so much when he was on the DL. He’s like a stem cell fueled machine out there
Bart now has a sub-3 ERA
Bartolo looks like he didn’t even get hurt. This is awesome.
I’m sure there’s a stem cell joke somewhere.
I dont want to know anything about McCarver’s personal life.
Is some fool screaming hit arod in the head? Mets fans no class
Classy fan screaming “hit ‘em in the head” over and over
Gee has that changeup working.
Jason Bay: worth every penny
Dear Yankees -
Every time Gee is in a put-away count, he will throw the changeup. Sit on it.
It’s not a matter of just sitting on it. The changeup has movement which makes very difficult to square up.
It wasnt too obvious tha Bay slowed down so he could “dive” there, was it?
Gee has a nice change up reminds me of cliff lee’s
This is getting ridiculous. Yankees, score some effing runs. It’s not that hard.
You know Gee is a good pitcher right?
Damn you think this Yankee lineup would rock Sandy Koufax.
Except Gee is not anywhere near as good as Koufax. And Gee isn’t this good.
That pitch is AWESOME
Nothing is getting over that LF wall today.
Bet beltran cant wait to get out of that park
Serious question: does Bartolo make the all-star team?
He should but he probably won’t.
Not enough innings IMO
STEM CELLS!
Gteat 2 seamer today for the big guy that looks inside and it cut over the plate nice
Okay. It’s time for the offense to show up.
Colon is just fucking dealin right now.
Whats sad is that after the 6th inning, Bartolo will likely be done. He is limited to at most 85 and hes already at 50.
It’s not such a bad thing to let him build up arm strength this way.
The BP was use heavily yesterday, so there’s that concern, but I’d much rather not push Colon too hard.
6 shutout innings today + 7-8 good innings next time out >>>>>>>>>>>> 7-9 innings today
Even if we lose this game, Colon’s dominance can be heralded a future success.
God I hope the Phillies make the World Series so the Yankees can beat them again and everyone can shut up about them.
I’d rather they get swept out of the NLDS. It’d be funnier.
And Cliff Lee gives up 12 runs in the first inning of his start.
and his wife complains about something
K-olon
Gee > Burnett
Burnett > Gee
Bartolo Colon’s a man with an incredible arm. Made of fat.
Powerful, powerful fat.
<3 Colon
Dammit, we’re only allowed 35 more pitches from Bart?
The innings he had off might be the silver lining of the injury, keeping his total down this year just a little bit.
This was my second thought when he got injured.
First was: “Oh Nooooooooo!”
Of course this is assuming the injury doesn’t have a negative impact on his performance… (So far, signs are very, very good)
If the A’s beat Gee so can we
The A’s beat Gee because Gee didn’t hjave control and walked 6. He has control today.
His change is deadly. Moving down and away
Man you kinda wish Hughes can learn a change up like that.
If any pitcher could learn that pitch every pitcher would throw it.
Martin strikes out on a fastball, probably looking for the change
God, I hate Nunez right now.
God, I love Nunez right now.
Exact-ly.
Exactly.
Nunie’d
6 for 6
Nunez!
Nunez hitting 1.000 in July
Nunez has gotten the best hits off of gee
Nunez can rake he will be dealt soon
nunie. 6-6. Jeet….?
Huge to clear the pitcher here…
pitchers batting is stupid.
I don’t even know how to feel about Nunez anymore.
I’ve never been this conflicted about a player.
lol Cano is dying watching Colon bat
FOX thinks that Terry Collins should be manager of the year? Really??
NL manager of the year. He’s probably alongside Clint Hurdle and maybe Kirk Gibson
If the Mets finish with a winning record, he deserves consideration.
But so do Ron Roenicke and Kirk Gibson and Clint Hurdle.
Colon lost the man boobs he probley sold the fat.
You seem overly obsessed with Bart’s body today
I think we all knew Nunez was gonna be the short stop to watch this series
Especially if you’re sitting in the first few rows behind first base.
BOOM! Awesome.
This guy is on pace for CGSHO. Not to sound pessimistic. That’s just my opinion.
He’s on pace to throw 128 pitches.
Nevermind then.
128 pitches is doable, though.
Even sado is laughing at bart.
“Haha, hey Bart, that’s what I looked like in April!”
I love that they’re laughing it up when they haven’t hit this guy.
I’d rather them not be all uptight.
I don’t want them to be uptight, either, but I’d prefer they save their smiles for when they’re actually winning.
I agree.
Playing a game = no fun.
Question, do you guys think nunez is gone by july?
No. Do you think Jeter re-injures his leg before the season ends?
At least Bartolo saw some pitches
nl baseball is terrible, who likes this crap?
That was exciting.
except trying to get Nunez and either Colon leading off next inning or knocking him out of the game
And that situation — pitcher coming up with two outs and RISP, too early to pinch-hit — is why good AL pitchers can become god-like in the NL.
Silver lining to the inning: Gee had to throw some pitches, which will shorten his outing (unlike the Yanks offer him the all-too-common six-pitch inning in the 6th).
Throw at the pitcher so the Yankees can get into the BP.
Lol JK. Sorta…
Carmona lol.
I dont think its so funny as a Yankee fan when you think about thats what killed CMW’s career.
Carmona failed too
Colon can beat carmona in a race
lol Carmona
Hopefully Carmona didn’t just ruin his career.
Just tuned in, was that Reyes infield single legit or could it have been an error?
Bay with the Jeterian hit.
Colon as he was going for the ball: “Im too out of shape for this shit. Oh well he got that”
Can they just call that Bay hit defensive indifference? The look on Bart’s face was priceless.
He’s starting to miss location a bit.
Double play, please.
its all nunez’s fault, everything is his fault. lets try to magnify every single on one of his miscues and ignore that fact that the team wins when he plays.
lets see how the team does when jeter is back. he fucks up a few times and it will be “oh, he just got back, cut him some slack.” some of you guys ignore that nunez is basically a rookie? so rookies have to be perfect now?
In Yankeeland they do. Quick hooks for Nova for example. Wait till Montero slumps.
I like Nova a lot. I also like Nuñez. The only thing is that Nuñez can be frustrating defensively, especially since he was pretty good defensively last year.
Utility IFs need to be able to catch & throw baseballs.
whats the pre-requisite for batting leadoff?
Mystique, aura & legacy.
NL baseball weeeee!
Only BABIP can only slow down Colon…
They’re going to squeeze
Cheap-hitted to death.
Come on gato
Bart getting squeezed
Throw strikes, fatty.
Go Bart go.
Yay NL baseball!!!
Bartolo, I love you.
Arod nice
AROD.
Nice,so nice.
Bartolo channeling DRob
See-the NL sucks equally for both teams!
Fuck yeah!
Like Colon, that last pitch to get the double play was huge.
Way to go fat man. Sometimes those lame NL rules come in handy.
NL baseball giveth, NL baseball taketh away
This is probably a poor analogy, but Bartolo Colon reminds me of George Foreman (the old, fat version).
Foreman was one of the greatest and most deadly knockout heavyweight boxers ever in his prime. He had heavy hands, so if he hit a man with a clean punch, he was going down, but his great skill, both when younger and older, was the accuracy of his punches. The older Foreman always seemed relaxed and in control, even when facing men decades younger, simply waiting for his shot to get a shot in, even with his diminshed skills. He eventually got it, knocking out Michael Moorer to regain the heavyweight championship twenty years and 70 pounds of blubber after he lost it.
Anyway, they remind me of each other because both were old (by athletic standards), both appeared done, both had disappeared from their sports only to return, yet their older versions barely broke a sweat, seemed in control, using deadly accuracy with their punches and pitches, and for brief moments have regained their former glory. The analogy falls apart beyond that, which I won’t other going into!
Now if the Yankees can only score some runs here!
If Bart gets his own brand of grill, I’m buying it.
The only difference is Colon will soon come out with a small grilling device that adds fat to your meals.
+1
I see your point but what Foreman did was Far Far Far more difficult and amazing.
Oh, I agree. Totally. That’s one reason why I said the analogy falls apart. Foreman wasn’t even looking to regain the heavyweight championship when he first came back. He was trying to raise some money and publicity for one of his causes. Then it just sort of kept going along, and he realized he probably could step into the ring, and in the right circumstance, win back the heavyweight title.
Boxing is a brutal sport meant for young men. I was stunned when Foreman made it back to the top, even for a brief time.
Colon still pitches like he did as his peak. Foreman was far from his peak on his comeback.
If Colon didn’t play baseball, I could totally see him being one of those adult babies. Lol
Grandy!
GRANDY!!!
The Grandyman!
We missed you Curtis
The Grandyman Can!!!
No more homerless streak!!!
Finally a bomb goes out of the airport
And the worm turns… Grandy!
Curtis!!!!
The Grandyman Can!
Third time through the order, bitch.
And, predictably, nobody in the booth even raises their voice. Tim instantly starts droning on about changeups.
That pitch was tattooed.
Lol everytime I’m about to say how bad someone has been lately, they hit a HR.
Grandy did it. He looked for the change and by going low he was able to square it
Gee isn’t fooling anybody this inning. Let’s blow it open quick.
Arod has been getting on top of a lot of high pitches lately
Grandy! he was so due.
And now that Grandy hit the change, its got Gee going inot scramble mode
McCarver has to have naked photos of Lefty.
Grandy reaches for the 40 oz. Ruth bat to time the changeup.
Gee isn’t fooling anyone anymore.
Fuck yeah Robbie! That’s 2 triples in 3 games, is it not?
Yankee Stadium is the worst park in the game for triples. My guess is Citi is one of the best.
ROBBIE!
They have him now.
Arod going slip and slide…
Oh Yeah Bitches!!!!!1
Go Robbie!!!
Don’t ya know?
ARod cuts the angle beautifully!
Lol IETC
Lol. arod slide was as bad as carmona’s
Wow anyone notice how A-Rod was running from 3rd to home? That looked really labored, I hope something isn’t wrong…
I noticed that to but I think he just tripped slightly.
He has not been running well for awhile. Hiding it well and I’m hoping he doesn’t have anything structural that is getting worse.
I assume Nunez is going to get some more playing time @ 3rd after Derek returns.
Let A-Rod have a few days of rest/DH
LOL Arod’s slide.
Cano > Reyes
Nice slide Arod. Looked like he feinted from exhaustion.
You watching the Haye vs. Klitschko fight as well?
Bobby valentine likes the way arod rounded third.
Yanks can get it done without Nunez getting a hit.
yay Swish
Woah situational hitting Win for once…
OK, leave Bart in or go to the pen?
Wow. You don’t usually go from impotent shutout to 4-run lead quite that quick.
Have Colon pitch the sixth and then go to the pen
agreed, Colon to Wade/Logan in the 7th to DRob to Mo
No Mitre? Girardi probably needs himself some Mitre.
Yeah. Cano remembered to run home today. Who said old dogs can’t learn new tricks.
Swish gets the job done.
You’re never safe on the mound against the Yankees. One second you’re dominating, then you blink and you’re down 4 runs.
Only a matter of time before they adjusted to his off-speediness.
Gee’s not making it out of this inning.
unless his 2nd baseman makes a spectacular play
We want Nunez to get out
What. A. Play.
Wowww what a play by Turner to end the inning.
I hate that guy!
damn Nunie smoked that, should have been 7-7
Nunez got BABIP fucked
Wow, that was some catch…
Perfect, Now have Colon pitch the sixth and pinch hit for him in the seventh
Nunie is hitting ropes every time up.
That 5-3 DP in the 5th sure made the difference, ’cause other than Nunez, they finally got to Gee.
Are Drob and Mo available tonight if necessary?
I don’t see why not. They both had easy outings last night.
Beltran must hate Citi field
Even that was a good pitch
I think this is Colon’s last batter regardless.
As it should be. Pinch hit for him
Let’s say he wasn’t on a pitch count. Would you PH for him anyway?
What if the score was 2 or 3-0?
“In this ballpark, nobody’s a power threat”
Except, you know, Granderson.
BARTOLOMANIA IS BACK!!!!!!!
pretty much everything I hoped for, great comeback.
McCarver: “In this ballpark, nobody’s a power threat”
Really?!?!?! Seriously, Shut the Fuck Up!!!!!!!!!
Big Bad Bartolo. Great effort. I really thought he would be rusty. Other than that fifth inning, he was the same as he’s been all year.
In this ballpark no one is a power threat
-tim mccarver
Lol eat it wilpon
Bart comes off the DL, doesn’t even make a rehab start, and promptly throws 6 scoreless innings. Where can I get me some stem cells?
It’s probably nitpicking but Gardner should be playing CF and Granderson LF. I’ bet Gardy could have ran down that shot by Beltran.
Deshon jackson could not get to that ball that was hit in a good spot
DeSean could have called for a fair catch under that.
I don’t think it is nitpicking. Before Gardy broke out last yr I understood it in that they wouldn’t want to move Granderson and then move him back but at this point not so much.
Grandy is just as fast as gritner grandy has a few inside the park hrs too
This is false.
Grandy’s fast, but Gardner will beat him in a footrace every times.
Equal ItPHR =/= equal speed.
No way. Gardner is much faster. Grandy probably ranks 3rd is today’s lineup behind Gardner and Nunez is terms of speed.
Nunez (since replacing JEter)
17 for 59 = .328 with 5 doubles, 1 HR, and 7 RBIs (while batting 9th and 8th).
If his last name was Lowrie the media would be goin nutz over the kid.
If he could field the media would be going nuts.
That.
How many games for Jeter to replicate those numbers?
when they eventually drop jeter to the 9th spot, his average will drop to .220
Which numbers? The hitting numbers, or the continual fielding, baserunning and mental errors?
I know I’m hard on Nunez. I want him to be good, but I don’t believe he’s cut out to be a MLB shortstop.
At some point if he keeps hitting like this, you ignore that part
Mccarver at the fan cave…I’m sorry for the people there
Joe, they cant hear you right now. they have the mute button on
Wade will pitch to Pagan and Bay, then Logan will ptich to Duda and Thole
Sorry
Let’s say Colon continues to pitch this well the remainder of the season, finishing with a low 3.00′s ERA. What do the Yankees do for 2012?
Get a draft pick from another team
He’s not going to be Type A.
He would be a type B in that scenario
He might be type B with a sub 3.00 ERA in the AL
& type Bs receive supplemental picks, not a pick from the signing team.
Another cheap year of possibly similar production > a sandwich pick…IMO
There wouldn’t be much of a draft pick since he was away from the game.
I think I’d try to bring him back on a one-year contract, blow the field away with the dollar amount on a one-year deal, then let him leave after 2012 and take the prospects when he’s hopefully re-established himself as a type A.
Another 1yr deal for a few M would be perfectly acceptable IMO.
Nothing more than that though. He is pitching on borrowed time, ultimately.
Bring him back for one year plus an option year that vests if he stays healthy and pitches well.
The option year is a good idea, too.
I’m still a bit stunned we’re having this discussion in July. Goes to show, You Can’t Predict Baseball.
Now the mets bunt? Withnthe 300 lb guy out of the gamw?
When I used to pitch in school I had a little hitch in my windup just like Corey Wade’s, and everybody always tried to coach it out of me.
/randomfactsthatareonlyinterestingtome
I found it interesting.
Interesting. Joe going against the binder and letting Wade pitch to the lefties
Cory Wade was such a great pick up
I like me some Cory Wade.
Lovin Cory Wade
I’d just love to patch the rest of this game up without using DRob or Mo.
My wife knows nothing about Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, or FOX Sports, but even she is fed up with them. She finally just said of Buck, “This guy is lame.” I’m so proud.
Fun fact: Manny Acosta used to be in the Yankees minor league system under the name “Moshe Illouz”
Hahaha Tim McCarver just made up for everything with that line.
Thanks for bringing up the lee thing again joe buck is a fuctard
yes, a “Yankees suck against the REd Sox” comment
The Yankees have lost 8 games to Boston this year, just like when they lost 4 consecutive games to them in a magical ALCS in 2004
/youcan’tpredictbaseball,butyoucanpredictFOX
Gotta love the Fox propaganda. Even though they lead the division, the Red Sox still really lead because the Yankees are 1-8 against them.
That is more anti Yankee than pro Boston because Buck is a Cardinals guy.
He’s still a dick.
I see your disgust with Fox Sports, Buck and Co., runs as high, if not higher, than mine!
They are annoying.
I hate Fox, in all its entities and subsidiaries.
Except for their Sunday night programming.
Colon has been an F..ing miracle this year. What’s amazing is his stuff is legitimately dominating. It’s not like Garcia who’s getting by with smoke and mirrors.
Nice Joe, keep talking about how the Sox are better than the Yankees
prediction for tommorrow is that Reyes doesnt start but could be used as a pinch hitter
Someone needs to call Artie Lange and have him drop by the booth. Maybe he can get Buck fired from Fox like he did to him at HBO.
This. This. A million times, this.
No Ken, Jeter will not ask to be dropped down in the lineup.
Gardner is a man folks
Actually considering that Gardner has cooled off, it might be the perfect time to move Jeter back to the top
No Susan, We want to win dammit. WE WANT TO WIN DAMMIT.
I think Susan Jacoby was 1-for-2.
Its Mitre!
Mitre the mistress is warming up
Gee, Tim, maybe the same could be said about broadcasters ???
time to get Experienced
No no no no no no no, not him. Please not him.
Mitre?? The lead is 4 runs not 14.
I knew Girardi would get a hard on to bring in that bum.
Did I just see Mitre in the bullpen?
Nunez!!!!
NUNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy shit Nunie
Damn Nunez can hit/ More HR’s than Jeter
Catch that one bitch.
Nunez has been an absolute killer!!!!!!! for the Mets!
NUNEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s time for Jeter to go.
Holy crap Nunie!
NUNIE!
Please learn how to field, you could legitimately have value.
According to most here, Nunez can’t get better at it. It’s not possible.
He’s clearly killing the team. He’s 24 and will never ever get better at defense.
No one is a power threat at citi but grandy and nunie
At least those workouts in the DR with Cano worked somebody…looking at you Cervelli.
I can’t wait til Jeter gets back so we can have more gritty infield singles
nothing more exciting than watching Jeter beat out a weak, anemic dribbler.
Get that man to some fielding courses and he could be the future.
DJ is the future…everyday through 2014
Nunie teaching the Mutts how to hit HRs in their own ballpark
silent treatment is the best
Speaking of Jete, watch him play here
http://www.mamigoinc.com/thunder/
Nunez (since replacing JEter)
20 for 60 = .333 with 5 doubles, 2 HR, and 7 RBIs (while batting 9th and 8th).
Oh, Tim can’t remember the Yankees having a problem “retiring” past superstars like Berra and Mantle, ay? Well, Tim, maybe that has something to do with the fact that guys like that didn’t make a bajillion fucking dollars and get covered by the media in a relentless 24 hr. / day barrage reporting.
Ah, Sergio.
The Experience is back!
Mitre still blows ass
Mitre doing work.
I dont think this game was Mitre proofed enough
Well, Joe, thanks for The Experience™, Murphy needed a hit for my fantasy team today…
DFA Mitre
They would have been better off letting Dickerson pitch and Mitre play right.
Where’s Buddy Carlyle when you need him?!
Lol Mitre sucks.
He’ll be gone when Phil comes back
Not necessarily.
I knew Nunie’s HR would get us the experience
So, Eduardo Nunez – keep as utility guy, backup SS, or trade bait?
1st comma = slash.
4 pitch walk in the 9th with a 5 run lead? good lord.
way to go Mitre.
One more baserunner…
Joe thought the fans were being lulled to sleep, so he brought in Mitre to pump up the adrenaline.
I like Girardi alot more than many here, but I do not get his irrational attachment to Mitre.
The guy sucked while playing in the NL, so obviously the Yankees had to bring him back.
Have you looked at his stats with the Brewers?
Yeah. -0.1 WAR in 33 innings. The guy sucks ass.
Mitre’d
Goddamit Mo should not have to warm up
This. He didn’t have to warm up, it was dumb (so was him pitching yesterday)
Mitre please die
Goddamnit Mitre I wanted a SHO
Guys, he’s pitching to the score.
this is Mitre pitching to his skill level
LMAOOOO…IETC
So, even if Mitre gets this next guy, he’ll leave with an AL ERA of 18.00. Welcome back, Sergio.
19 games over .500
7 game winning streak
14-3 without jeter
Life is good.
Did this just set a record for shortest Fox game ever?
On pace for a 100-62 season
49-23 ATROMLB!
Meat-tray is the perfect garbage innings pitcher. He did his job, well done sir.
Good game ..crush the mets Mitre suck a dick. Loser
7 in a row for the Yanks. Monty starting to get on a roll as well. He hit another homer against the Pawsox.
Since when?
Since this afternoon.
Can they go 50-31 in the second half? That would be most excellent…
They were 18-8 in June.
So if they go 10 games over .500 in each month in July, August, and September, they project out to 56-25 for the 2nd half.
Damn, Gardner’s really cooled off
