This seemed unthinkable a few days/weeks/months ago, but the Yankees did not make a single move before today’s 4:00pm ET non-waiver trade deadline. Several reporters have confirmed it in case you were holding out hope that something happened under-the-radar. It’s the first time since 2002 that they didn’t make any kind of move in late-July.
The Yankees talked with the Rockies about Ubaldo Jimenez, with the Dodgers about Hiroki Kuroda, with the Astros about Wandy Rodriguez, and I’m sure many other clubs about many other players, but none of the returns justified the cost. Waiver trades can still happen in August t(hat’s how the Yankees got Chad Gaudin two seasons ago), and Wandy’s contract will certainly clear waivers. He’s not completely out of play yet. What you see is what you’re getting though, this is the team the Yankees will likely finish the season with.
