CC Sabathia: Packing on the pounds (again)

By

A whole lot was made of CC Sabathia‘s weight loss earlier this year, as the big left-hander shed 30 lbs. during the offseason and reported to camp at 290 lbs. for the first time in what I imagine is years. He’s gained some of weight back during the season though, something CC readily admitted to George King. “I gained ten back but I feel good, feel strong,” said Sabathia. “This [winter] I will get under 290. It’s easier to work out in the offseason than it is during the season. During the season I have to make sure I stay strong and feel good.” Given how well he’s pitching, I couldn’t care less how much the guy weighs. Whatever he’s doing, it’s working.

i think its a lot more than 10 lbs.

  2. Addison says:

I’m pretty sure his brand new Southern California mansion he’ll be purchasing this off-season with Arte Moreno’s money will have a private beach for him to run on.

    • Mike Axisa says:

I doubt Sabathia joins that sinking ship, especially since he’d presumably have to take less money to do so.

      • vin says:

Also have to think the 20 million per year they’re paying to Vernon Wells would perclude them from signing a guy like CC.

They’re turning into the Dodgers without the nasty divorce.

      • Xstar7 says:

This is just baseless speculation, but if CC joined the Angels in the offseason, CC-Weaver-Haren-Santana-Piniero would make the for the best rotation in the American League. Of course CC would have to accept a decrease in pay and their offense still sucks, but they’d be a force to be reckoned with. Basically an American League version of the Phillies.

        • Rainbow Connection says:

And it might turn the Yanks into a sinking ship (AJ, Ghost of Hughes, Nova, ?, ?) unless they sign some big time SP’s.

          • vin says:

Which is why they’d never let CC leave. Certainly seems as though nothing has happened that would encourage CC to leave NY.

          • Urban says:

The Yankees haven’t been a sinking ship since the early 1990s. Even the one year they missed the playoffs they won 89 games. But, yeah, sure, beyond that…

      • ultimate913 says:

Especially when it looks like one of their current aces will be leaving to the highest bidder after next season.

Which could very well be the Yankees.

    • johnnybk says:

I really try not to say violent things over the internet ever, but I would love to set you on fire right now. For so many reasons. Can we not enjoy our ace dominating everyone without talking about why were not good enough to have him.

      • johnnybk says:

By the way that was toward Addison…and its only figuratively setting on fire. Really doing that would be stupid, like suggesting anybody will outbid us for our ace.

  3. Nuke LaDoosh says:

I really hope CC is back on the Cap’n Crunch. (I think that might even be the true meaning of the initials in his name.)

  4. Jamey says:

Yeah I guessed as much recently, just looked like he had gained it back. Way more than just 10 pounds though.

  5. Uncle Mike says:

As long as the weight gain isn’t threatening his health, and he’s pitching like this, who cares?

    • Mike HC says:

Of course the weight gain is threatening his health. Food is good, and it is obviously not effecting his job, so there is even less motivation to loss weight.

  6. Cy Pettitte says:

I would follow CC to every game and spoon feed him cap’n crunch 24/7 every day if it means he keeps pitching this well.

  7. IRF says:

Not even CC can resist the Cap’n's siren song

  8. Kevin says:

THe reason he lost weight is because it put pressure on his knees. THat’s the only thing I worry about.

  9. Faiaz says:

    More like 10 KGs

  10. mt says:

I worry about his weight – let’s hope he doesn’t turn into pitching equivalent of Mo Vaughn after he signs his new six or seven year deal with Yankees.

Also looks like he has gained way more than 10 pounds.

    • The Great Balboni says:

The dude is packing major weight; very unhealthy. It’s weird because just before the All-star break, he pitched a gem but I thought he looked really way too heavy. Besides the stress on his knees carrying all that extra weight, you just worry about him generally. Stop eating all the carbs, CC. Keep up w/free range proteins, wild salmon, whole grains, brocolli, Asparagus, Romaine lettuce; lots of filtered fresh water; lemon juice in that water to help clean you out, etc.; that kind of stuff. We only bring it up ’cause we care!

  11. Mickey Scheister says:

I’m on the CC diet, I just told people I dropped a bunch of weight, bought new, bigger clothes then ate 8 meals a day until I filled them out. I feel great!

  12. Urban says:

He looks as heavy as he has at any point since joining the Yankees. He’s also pitching his best ball since joining the Yankees. Give that man a bowl of Captain Crunch.
