Colon, Nova set to start Sunday’s DH
By Benjamin KabakAs Irene batters the East Coast, the Yankees and the Orioles are currently scheduled to play a double header later today, and the Yanks have made some slight adjustments to the rotation. They currently have announced that Bartolo Colon will start Game 1 and Ivan Nova will start Game 2. This move gives the Yanks some flexibility for Monday. They could ask CC Sabathia to throw on regular rest or they could activate Freddy Garcia, thus allowing CC to start against the Red Sox on Tuesday. Either way, A.J. Burnett lines up to start one of the games in Fenway whether any of us want to see that or not.

im goin to the game monday night hope cc or freddy starts
Who else would start?
Going to the game on monday too. I hope it’s CC
I am just hoping that the field is okay to play and that Colon and Nova have CG shut outs.
The big mistake Girardi made was not having Nova pitch on Friday. He would have been on regular rest since he started last Sunday in Minnesota, and thus he would have been able to pitch either Wednesday or Thursday in Fenway. Thanks a lot, Joe Girardi.
Man, it would be great to see Adam Warren make his big league debut on Thursday. I’d start him instead of Burnett. AJ just hasn’t kept us in games.
In Fenway? Ehhh
Why not? It’s tough to imagine him being any worse than AJ, even in fenway.
True, but throwing a guy to the wolves his first major league start isn’t the smartest thing. I’d rather risk it with Noesi and have him start.
Noesi in Fenway on Tuesday or on Monday? I’d like to have him on Monday, so CC and Freddy would start the first 2 Boston games.
This would make a lot more sense. Start someone else vs. Baltimore and line up CC, Garcia and Hughes for Boston.
Ha, I was just thinking the same thing.
The series starts on Tuesday, and A.J is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday (according to ESPN, for what it’s worth). Since there was today’s rain out which made a 5 game series into a 4 games series in Baltimore that means that Freddy Garcia or CC Sabathia will pitch one of those games in Boston with the other obviously pitching Monday in Baltimore. I’d rather have Sabathia pitch in Boston and Freddy pitch in Baltimore for the obvious reasons. Sabathia is due to pitch well in Boston, and Freddy is coming off the minor finger injury, but still pitching against Baltimore is a better way to comeback. OR what the Yankees could do, and it’ be really throwing a curve, but I think it’s a good idea. But, they could start Noesi on Monday, which means they can have Phil Hughes, CC Sabathia, and Freddy Garcia pitch in Boston (no particular order). That would skip A.J and they wouldn’t have to start Noesi who hasn’t started in what seems like forever in Fenway Park.
Warren has been shaky since that great mid season stretch in June. I’m not looking forward to AJ, but it’s him, Noesi or Betances for me, in that order.
Let AJ get shelled in Fenway, and then the Yanks will have no excuse not to go back to a 5 man with the schedule in September.
aj burnett in fenway = reverse lock
AJ Burnett vs. any team at this point is a reverse lock, but one that doesn’t work at all.
Yes, but the Twins and Orioles are bad teams. Maybe a very good team will strengthen the reverse lock.
It 8:40 what are odds both these games get played today and how hard will it be for fans and players to get to this games?
Ironic because they will quite possibly make less money than they would have if they had just done a day night dh on friday which made the most sense
On the plus side, if AJ does end up drilling one of their best players, the Yanks CAN say that it wasn’t on purpose.
Good News. http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/36382:20
The weather in Camden Yards says the rain will stop at 12:00 and that from 1-10 PM with 0% rain. I guess the baseball gods want these games in.
They just need to pull the plug on AJ Burnett and bring someone else up on Thursday to start that ballgame. Freddy on Monday, CC on Tuesday, Hughes on Wednesday, Anybody but AJ Burnett on Thursday.
Is Camden Yards in playable condition ? If not Girardi should tell the O’s he can’t take a chance on injuries and refuse to play the games.
Get the owner of the O’s where it hurts his wallet.
You have to assume the drainage is solid, or else this wouldn’t even be considered.
I suspect the attendance will be low, with people still trying to get their lives in order before going back to work on Monday. Not to mention any lingering rain.
Can’t the skip AJ and bring up someone from AAA who is on 40 man to make the start?
I’d prefer for this, against the O’s and save CC for the sox.
I think that, at this point, the Yankees just need to shut down Burnett for the rest of the season. Maybe put him on the DL with a “dead-arm” and just kick him to the curb. At this point, I’d rather the Yankees pay him $16.5 million not to pitch. I know it’s a waste of money, but sometimes you gotta bite the bullet.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, batter
I stayed at the same hotel as the Yankees for the last 2 days. It was pretty awesome especially with all the players stuck in the hotel for the day.
Hey, Thursday is September 1, which means AJ’s annual August terribleness is over! It’s a new month! He’s going to get it together now!
Really though, if AJ gives us nothing else for the rest of year/contract, it would be pretty awesome to see him get his shit together and throw a perfect game against the Sox. Just imagine the befuddled looks on the Sox players as AJ’s “eletric stuff” whizzes past them.
Am I the only one that can’t find if or where the second game today is being televised? If I am, could someone please enlighten me? Thanks.
If getting embarrassed by the Orioles isn’t enough to get Burnett out of the rotation, then I guess nothing is.
Hell, why not bring back Jaret Wright if you don’t give a fuck about winning games?
I think AJ should pull a Dock Ellis, and just go out and drill the lineup (though pitching a no hitter on LSD would be ok too).
So who is going down for Freddy tomorrow?
