Is it just me, or does this game feel like no big deal? After that brutally intense and stressful series in Boston, three games at home against the Blue Jays kinda feels like Spring Training almost. There’s no buzz, we’re just going through the motions. Here’s the starting nine…

I put the odds on losing this game at 70%, even though Nova is going.
Tuesday was confirmation that Jorge Posada is finished. He won’t play against the lefties this weekend. Montero, Chavez, and Jones will be the DH the rest of the year. Another Yankee great fades away before our very eyes.
Sad, isn’t it? But it happens.
Pretty much the only great Yankee who didn’t have that moment was Joe DiMaggio, because he sensed he wasn’t the player he once was and decided to leave on his own terms.
Same thing with Pettitte, kinda sorta. He could have pitched this year, he was physically able for the most part.
Yeah. Pettitte was excellent last year and superb in his final start. No shame in getting outdueled by Cliff Lee.
NoMaas called out ARod yesterday.
I found myself agreeing with them.
No reason to push the issue on a regular season game when it’s almost a guarantee the Yankees will make the playoffs. I know it’s the Red Sox and they want to win the division, but a Healthy A-Rod in the playoffs > A-Rod in a mostly meaningless regular season game.
Plus the Yankees won 2 of 3 so it really didn’t cost the team that he was out.

Teixeira is pitiful against right handed pitching, he will not be missed today. Hopefully he is back tomorrow though.

Ivan Nova’s bid for ROY continues tonight. He can push it up to 18 wins, might have had a shot at 20 if they hadn’t sent him down. This kid has certainly outperformed and should win ROY.
Pineda is my ROY. I like Nova but Pineda is just better.
I’d go with Ackley. He’s been fantastic since his call up. He’s hit .296/.371/.463 with about average defense. Nova will get votes because of his high win total, but other than that, I don’t see a very strong case for him.
Pineda’s really fallen off in the second half. Desmond Jennings has already passed Ackley in WAR.

I agree. Even in today’s world and on this site people are fixated on Tex’s batting average. We’re a worse team without Teix, just like we are without A-Rod.

Morrow’s got the highest strikeout rate in the AL and a lower WHIP than Mr. ROY Ivan Nova. He doesn’t suck.

That’s actually a play that Tex might have been able to make because he’s a righty thrower. He wouldn’t have had to reach across his body to make the catch like Swish. Plus he’s a few inches taller, might have been able to keep his foot on the bag. Who knows, doesn’t really matter anyway.

Nunez-after some throwing jitters-has proven to be so valuable as a backup for 55M dollars of infielders. All for 475K at 24 years of age. Love it.

I haven’t pigeon-holed him yet. He clearly needs to increase the K’s to up his status.
I’d love to see that changeup develop. I saw him throw a few last year when he first came up for a swing and miss and it looked pretty sharp at times. Add to that more consistent command of his sinker (that I hope will come with time) and you should have a 200 inning, mid rotation guy.

Dunno if this was discussed already, but I thought this article on ESPN was very interesting. Explains why Granderson is not highly rated by defensive metrics, and how Gardner’s range does not hurt Granderson’s numbers. Of course the comments on it are terrible.

Question, lets say the Rays and Red Sox some how are within 1 game of each other at the end of the year. The Yankees play the Rays for the last 3 games. Do the Yankees purposefully blow those games to let the Rays take the wild card?

If the Yankees have clinched the division at that point, I would have no problem “resting some regulars” and “setting up the rotation”
The chances of that happening are probably slimmer than Kate Moss, so I wouldn’t be concerned.
Yea, but lets say the Rays sweep the Red Sox, there would then be a chance it happens. Its more a “what if” scenario anyway.
Hm, but that would mean that the Sox were ice cold during September (may not be significant — think “2000 Yankees”) and that the Rays were red hot (may be significant — think “2007 Rockies”).
Granted, I’ve definitely just cherry-picked examples of past teams, but it may be worthwhile to consider the recent performances of both teams.
Overall, though, I definitely think the Red Sox would be a far more dangerous team in the playoffs. If the Yanks were to do what you mentioned, I wouldn’t totally mind it.

He didn’t start doing it until that series where the White Sox visited the Stadium. I think he was doing it to be parodic at first, now I just think he’s doing it to be annoying.
He’s definitely succeeding in being annoying with it. When ever I hear it, some of the joy of the win is immediately lost and replaced with the urge to punch something for a second.
