At long last, the final game of the west coast trip. The Pacific Time Zone sure does a bang up job of making six games feel like sixty, doesn’t it? Here’s the starting lineup…

Derek Jeter, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Jesus Montero, DH
Andruw Jones, LF

Roster News: Steve Garrison cleared waivers and has been outrighted to the minors. He had been designated for assignment over the weekend to make room on the 40-man roster for Austin Romine.

    LOL SOX!

    • Cy Pettitte

      LOL Bard.

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Best setup man in da game.

        • Cy Pettitte

yup, he always sets the other team up for a W.

  • PaulF

Can we also have a magic number countdown for the division?

    • mbonzo

I think that happened last year but the Yanks never won the division.

      • nedro

        /jinx’d

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

liking this lineup tonight. A Rod back against the Jays this weekend?

    • Montero’s Mojo

I’d rather have him 100% then risk using him at anything below. Let him rest and hopefully the mental break and physical repose will pay colossal dividends in the playoffs.

      • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

Yanks have been fine without him…Just hope he gets some at bats before the post season to get his timing back

        • Montero’s Mojo

Yeah. I’d think that the first Rays series would be perfect timing

      • Urban

The problem, though, is one of timing. After the surgery, A-Rod has only had 46 PAs for the entire second half of the year, and they haven’t even been consistent PAs because of the thumb injury.

A-Rod’s timing early this season was strong, his fielding excellent. They need to get him back to that and they only way he can do that is with PAs against living pitching. They’re running out of time, so it’s a balance between the health of his hand and games remaining.

      • JoeyA

I’ve been saying this to my friends for awhile. Alex is no lover the player that can still be a top offensive threat at 70-80%. He’s getting up there and it’s important he plays close to, if not only, 100%. We have a worthwhile replacement in Chavez (BIG credit to Cash), let him man 3B until Alex feels perfect. Oct>Sept

  • Slappy White

Has anyone commented on Bob Ryan saying that although Mariano is a great pitcher, the Closer position is overrated ?….on a day when his beloved red Sox blew a save….what a jackass

    • mbonzo

I don’t care what Ryan has to say, but the save stat is flawed in general, and for that reason I’d rather call him a high-leverage pitcher rather than a closer.

      • Slappy White

very high-leverage….I agree that the save stat is flawed, but it sure is nice to have Mariano around at the end of a game

      • Rainbow Connection

But he’s not always used in the high leverage situations. 3 run lead with no one on base isn’t high leverage.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

I saw that on PTI. He’s a fucking joke. I was so pissed off when I heard that. Also Mitch Williams said that the 8th inning is more important than the 9th inning. It’s completely and utterly stupid with the amount of hate of the Yankees and their players. I swear, if the Yankees can win the World Series it will be sweeter than ever.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Mitch Williams should be taken as seriously as that guy I saw on a subway platform a couple weeks ago going on about Judgment Day being upon us.

      • Slappy White

I bet Phillie fans wish Mariano would have been pitching to Joe Carter that time instead of old Mitch

    • nedro

Can’t deal with the fact the Yanks invented the position with the likes of Sparky Lyle and it gained further credibility with the likes of Gossage and now it’s pretty much de rigeur.

    • Urban

I have no idea who Bob Ryan is and have no interest in learning.

If he’s a Red Sox reporter, I’m sure he’d say differently if it was a RS player.

      • Rainbow Connection

Sterling and Suzyn were also downplaying Mo (and the closer myth) the other night during the game. It’s not just Sox fans saying this.

      • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

He writes for the Boston Globe. You can connect the dots from there.

  • Monteroisdinero

    Nova……nice guy.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Lets make this a quick one boys…I’ve got work early tomorrow.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    nice AB by Jeter

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      oh well. still nice.

  • SevenAces

Nice AB even though he didn’t get on base.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Goddamn Safeco field.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    damn yellowstone park

  • teddy

granderson just missed that, 2 very good at bats

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

23 pitches in a 1-2-3 inning. Vargas has Phil Hughes disease. Foul ball after foul ball after foul ball.

  • FIPster Doofus

Probably as a good a 1-2-3 inning as you’ll see from an offense.

  • Dude

if theres a way to go 123 thats probably the way to do it

  • Chen Meng Wang

If Nova pitches really well the rest of the way does he get the game 2 start?

    • nedro

      No veteran presents?

    • FIPster Doofus

Nova is way better on the road, so I’d say no. The same can be said of Garcia. I’d go with Bart in Game 2.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Then You’d have to go Nova in 3 and Garcia in 4(or CC on short rest then, no?

        • FIPster Doofus

Kind of depends on what the series’ status is. If the Yanks are down 2-1, I think they’d be hard-pressed to throw anyone but CC in Game 4.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      No, game three.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    5 pitches.

  • Urban

    Four pitches? Nice.

  • FIPster Doofus

Same results for both offenses, but the Yankees went about it way better.

  • teddy

    good job nova,jesus time!

  • SevenAces

    5 pitches, 3 outs. EFFICIENT.

  • Montero’s Mojo

    Speaking of good 1-2-3 innings…

  • tom

Hmmm…Nova’s 123 inning seems to have gone just a bit smoother than Vargas’.

  • BK2ATL

Beautifully, efficient 1st inning from Nova. 5 pitches, 3 outs.

Hope he keeps it up, the efficient part that is.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Gotta love that inning, huh?

  • Dude

Andrew Jones the most casual fielder in the game i was sure he had given up on that foul

  • nedro

Oh, no, Robbie, that was just ugly.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Swisher histrionics again

  • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

So is there any farther of a gap between what we expected and what really happened than A Rod’s season this year? He came in in great shape, fully healthy and crushing baseballs looking like he would have a epic year. Sure enough he ended up hurt for a huge chunk of the year. Talk about shitty luck.

    • http://twitter.com/urbainshockcor Urban

      Well you know, Suzyn…

    • nedro

You know, Suzyn… You just can’t predict — [gunshot]

  • Chen Meng Wang

Doesn’t Kay know, a little bit of floor spice makes everything nice?

  • teddy

wow jesus and cano look stupid

    • Karl Krawfid

They were running together in the outfield today.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

hmm. Vargas doesn’t ‘look’ that overpowering.

The hitters must not be picking up the ball out of his hand yet.

2nd time thru they’ll get him.

  • teddy

    damm 2 groundball singles

  • Kostas

Its kind of funny to see a full year later that Smoak was the reason the Yankees did not get Cliff Lee last year. #fail.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Thankfully for the Yankees.

  • Monteroisdinero

    Ivy league factory?

  • Cy Pettitte

YES went from no commercials yesterday to commercials in the middle on the inning today

  • teddy

leiter going with the heart and gut thing

  • Kostas

Do i start Peyton Hillis this weekend?

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

YES! He’s going against the Colts and their soft defense. Their middle linebacker (Gary Brackett) is out. Look for a 130+ yard day and at least one TD.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    96 on the Mariner’s broadcast!

  • Tom Zig

    Thank you Wily Mo!

  • FIPster Doofus

    Sweet.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Huge turn around by Nova there. Still only at 20pitches for the game btw.

  • Kostas

There is clearly no better 2nd baseman when it comes to turning a double play than Cano.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    NICE!

    Smooth Cano, nice turn Jeter.

  • Urban

It’s not an either/or situation, Michael, or a battle between sabermetrics and “old school” talent evaluators. It’s a balance of both.

  • Tom

That was some pitching… reached back for a few mph’s in a tight spot for the K and then gets the groundball….

That’s the difference between throwing and pitching.

  • Monteroisdinero

This is a low pressure game if there ever was one.

  • Urban

So now that Bard has been less than great, and Papelbon has had a good year, what do anyone think the Red Sox will do with Papelbon. Let him walk? Sign him?

    • Tom

They have to sign him I think. If you plug Bard in as closer, then you have the inconsistent and oft injured Jenks as your setup man? That weakens two spots in the pen.

The Red Sox need to sign a closer/later reliever (whether its Paps or one of the other FA’s)

  • Will (the other one)

An .833 OPS from my part-time left fielder/bench bat? Yes, thanks.

  • Tom

Hit and run? GB hitter, pitcher without dominant stuff….

    Nevermind 2 quick strikes

  • mbonzo

I kinda think playing the Orioles, who will probably be at 100% with Buck pushing them to finish strong, is about as hard as playing the Yankees at 50% after clinching a playoff spot.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Bard has a 30.86 ERA over his last 3 appearances. I know ERA doesn’t mean shit with a reliever, but that’s still pretty funny.

    • BK2ATL

Just means that we’ll see Paplepuke in Boston next year as the closer.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Was there ever really a doubt they were gonna bring the PapelBitch back?

        • Urban

I think there was doubt after the year PapelCum (hey, might as well continue with the theme) had in 2010 and the year Bard had. It seemed like they were grooming Bard for the closer’s role. The other issue is PapelClit’s ego and his desire to be the highest-paid reliever in the game.

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I honestly would be OK with that. No way he repeats his performance next year, and they will have to spend money on him that they could have been using to get a better starter.

        • Chen Meng Wang

A better starta? Whadda yah mean? Tha Saux have 4 Legit Aces.

          • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

            a 5th 6th 7th and 8th ace!!!! duuuuuuuhhhhhh……

  • teddy

yanks having trouble squaring up his fastball

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    That … was bad.

  • Cy Pettitte

WHAT ARE YOU DOING ROB THOMPSON

    god.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Andruw is slow :(

    • Sarah

      Indeed.

  • FIPster Doofus

Dumb move to send him. He’s slow.

  • Tyrion Lannister

Jones ain’t that fast Robbie Thompson. Horrible send. Just awful.

  • Tom

    Ridiculous send with 1 out…

  • teddy

god awful decsion, yanks not playing smart baseball

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

They’re not picking up the ball out of his hand.

    Gotta be the reason.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Haha, you could tell from the shot of Jones rounding 3rd that he had no chance.

He doesn’t have Posada speed, but let’s just say that Andruw isn’t exactly Brett Gardner on the basepaths.

    • Sarah

      True statement.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Dumb send.

Dude has a tear in his Knee.

  • mbonzo

I saw where the ball was when Jones was at 3rd and smacked my own face when I saw him keep going.

  • Rainbow Connection

He was slow getting to third.

  • Montero’s Mojo

Man would I love to see Montero catching instead of Martin. Nothing against Russel, but I like my backstops BIG, BRAWNY, and VENEZUELAN!

    • Monteroisdinero

      Mi tambien.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Really Thompson?

  • Monteroisdinero

    Not angry at Thompson.

    • JohnnyC

Jones has a tear in his knee. He’s getting it drained. Guess Thompson forgot.

      • Monteroisdinero

        Then play Golson. Scores easily.

        • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

He’d have to get on base first.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

That out at the plate was a given.

    Yuck

  • Chen Meng Wang

Wow, just saw the highlight…Jones was barely around third when the throw hit Ackley.

  • Bartolo’s Colon

honestly i don’t know enough about baseball to know if robbie thompson is a good third base coach, but to me i think he seems to make alot of dumb decisions. thoughts?

    • mbonzo

      He’s one of the best.

      • Tom

        Based on?

        • mbonzo

Trying to find some sources, but he seems to work very hard at it and studied under some of the best coaches. Its not really discussed much, but he has a reputation of being very good. One article had a coach saying he could be the best in the game.

        • JoeyA

Based on the fact Yankee fans rarely complain about him. How many times this season have you honestly been pissed at a decision by Thompson? 4 or 5?

    • JohnnyC

He’s not the best I’ve seen. Just my opinion.

    • Rainbow Connection

Every coach should look good with a $200 million payroll. You really have to fuck up to look bad.

      • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

        Lol this again.

      • Bryan

That $200m is grossly inflated by stupid contracts given to ARod, Jeter and Soriano who would’ve signed for less since no one else was gonna sign em.

Thank Hank and Levine for 2014 financial inflexibility!

    • Tyrion Lannister

Larry Bowa has about a 6 WAR for 3rd base coaches and Robbie Thompson is the replacement level coach.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Are you being facetious/sarcastic? I can imagine there is WAR for coaches…

    • BK2ATL

Wasn’t a bad idea. Just that Jones stumbled coming around 3rd. Thompson had already been waving him home. It was a good gamble as the ball was dying as it rolled down the line. Jones stumbling messed up the play. Can’t blame Jones or Thompson for that one. I like the aggressive decision. Seattle just executed the relay perfectly.

      • Monteroisdinero

This. Great play by Ackley. Jeterian.

  • FIPster Doofus

Well, they fucked that inning up. Nicely done, Rob.

  • BK2ATL

Arghhhh. #RISPFail. Hate those when it happens to us.

Vargas is at 60 pitches after 3 innings. Methinks, we’ve seen enough and will be squaring off on him in the coming innings.

  • teddy

damm nova leaving the ball up

  • Monteroisdinero

We don’t need the pumpkinseedeater. No i in team.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Mr. PlasticBadge is just wearing sun glasses to hide the fact he’s smoking before work

    NICE PLAY BY DEREK.

  • FIPster Doofus

    Beautiful.

  • teddy

    damm jeter and cano

  • BK2ATL

Our defense is pretty damn good!!!

  • Sarah

Cano making it look easy again.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Jeter may not be a good defensive shortstop overall, but nobody turns a double play smoother than he and Cano.

  • Urban

Sheriff is a cooler sounded title than police officer. Add in sunglasses, and the picture is complete.

  • Monteroisdinero

Love Tex throwing it to Robbie after the 3rd out.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Goose?

    • mbonzo

      Seems too easy

      • Chen Meng Wang

        It’s not him, I just Baseball-Referenced it out of curiosity…Goose is 3rd.

  • Rey22

I was for Bartolo starting game 2 in the playoffs, but Nova just keeps impressing. Might be leaning more towards him these days.

    • FIPster Doofus

      Home: 4.42 ERA, 5.03 FIP, 4.48 xFIP
      Road: 3.47 ERA, 3.18 FIP, 3.74 xFIP

  • teddy

    thats wasn’t good

  • Tyrion Lannister

Teixera is one of the best hitters in the game, Dave O’Brien? Could of fooled me.

  • Sarah

    The hell, guys? 6 pitches?

  • Monteroisdinero

Quick game so far in front of typically catatonic west coast crowd. Latte, book. And oh, look up, a baseball game!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Two leadoff walks to bad hitters in the first four innings. Well done, Ivan.

    • FIPster Doofus

      Zero runs allowed in 3.1.

Well done against shitty Vargas, offense.

    • Tyrion Lannister

How many runs have crossed the plate on Nova’s watch tonight? Zero? He’s doing just fine.

      • JohnnyC

You were saying? Walks turn into runs all too often.

        • FIPster Doofus

One run in four innings. Maybe the offense should wake the hell up. This isn’t King Felix they’re facing.

        • Tyrion Lannister

The leadoff walk did not turn into a run. If Ivan holds them to 1 that’ll still be pretty good. Better than the other two starters this series who were praised for having good outings. Offense needs to score off a mediocre pitcher.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Is the trivia Dave Righetti?

    Goose seems too easy.

    • Chen Meng Wang

      Yep.

  • Monteroisdinero

    Mo-fro!

    • Chen Meng Wang

      And the side burns!!

  • Tyrion Lannister

    Martin nabs another one.

  • Monteroisdinero

    Jeets!

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Wow, he was toast.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    1) That looked like strike 3

    2) That was a pathetic stolen base attempt.

  • JT

What do these baseball players know… the fans and stats say otherwise.

Jonathan Niese 2011 (2.7 war) > Mariano Rivera (in all but 4 years of his career)

    • jon

200 innings meh > 70 innings great innings

    • Chip

Yeah but WAR is a fickle stat when it comes to relievers and closers especially

  • Montero’s Mojo

Nice to see the offense took a day off earlier than scheduled

  • Karl Krawfid

    Nova never has fastball command.

    • Chen Meng Wang

? Explain how he’s having the season he’s having if he “never has fastball command”

  • teddy

the great adam kennedy, why does it feel sea offensive is been better this series

  • jon

    what the fuck was that

  • Cy Pettitte

    free run

    great job

  • Monteroisdinero

    Martin should have caught that.

  • teddy

pathetic, embarssed him with a fastball thrn a curve, yanks are on drugs

    • Greg

I bet only you noticed that given your expertise in the field of drugs.

    • JohnnyC

I’m holding off on judging the pitch selection until Matt posts.

  • Greg

Dammit I want a Five game lead!

    • flamingo

      It ain’t over yet.

  • Chen Meng Wang

I can haz yankee offenze plz?

  • BK2ATL

Damn it, Ivan. One pitch too late. Oh well. If that’s the worst it gets…..

  • Monteroisdinero

    We score now.

  • BK2ATL

Damn it, Ivan. One pitch too late. Oh well.

If that’s the worst it gets…..I think we’ll be okay.

  • Chip

I love this part of the season. I’m really to the point I don’t care. Just play .500 baseball the rest of the way and we have the division locked up. Wild pitch? O well

  • Tyrion Lannister

The offense needs to do something. We had something going then Robbie Thompson sent one of our slowest runners with 1 out and Jeter due up. Save us, Jesus.

  • Cy Pettitte

    Montero’s groin > Smoak’s groin

    • JohnnyC

Vargas’ offspeed stuff > Montero’s bat

      • Kostas

        for now…

  • Montero’s Mojo

I’m a bit convinced that the team is still reeling… I think the King’s Onslaught was simply an outlier.

    • 1stbase

i’am not, they haven’t had a day off in forever, this is the last game on the west coast they wanna get on the plane as fast as possible and get some rest finally

  • Chen Meng Wang

    That looked ugly Jesus.

    • Montero’s Mojo

I think you meant… “Jesus! That looked ugly.”

      • Chen Meng Wang

I actually meant “that looked ugly, Jesus!” lol gotta love word play.

  • Tyrion Lannister

Vargas is a clown, a mediocre pitcher making our hitters look silly. 1 hit all night.

  • Cy Pettitte

    offense MIA

    • Sarah

On the plane to Toronto apparently.

  • FIPster Doofus

    Putrid.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Vargas, spanish for Koufax?

    • Montero’s Mojo

It’s actually an ancient Mayan dialect that translates to “Rube Waddell”

  • BK2ATL

Ummm…don’t look now, but we’re getting 1-hit by Vargas.

  • Greg

Well the fact that we beat up Felix Hernandez probably is counterbalanced by this game via the baseball gods.

  • Kostas

How the hell is Willie Mo Pena still employed at the major league level?

  • Kelly

    offense not showing up tonight

    • Montero’s Mojo

Yeah, I’d call that too… But, the third time through COULD be a charm.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Micheal Kay, king fucking instigator. Nobody can ever be right when they’re talking to him.

    • Kostas

Can’t be Captain Douche Bag and be wrong. But when you “got no game” must resort to believing ones own bullshit. Michael Kay.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Poor Al Lieter, just giving an honest opinion about Money Ball and Kay torched him.

  • nedro

    Ouch. C’mon, Nova.

  • Kelly

nova looks like he did his last time out in baltimore. not locating pitches, walking guys. hes gotta hold it here incase our offense decides to show up

  • your mom

We gonna take the lead this inning.

  • Karl Krawfid

    It’s still 1-0

  • nedro

    RUNS, PLEEEEZZZ!!!!!!

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Bruschi’s rant about Ochocinco was so stupid.

He’s in awe of Brady because he’s really good, not because he doesn’t understand the playbook.

    Screw “the Patriot way”

    • Kostas

Proof that just because you play the game, doesn’t mean you know what the fuck your talking about.

      • AaronGuielWithASmile

I call it “the Joe Morgan effect”

      • Chen Meng Wang

Seriously, I just read the exact quote by Bruschi. To steal a word from my British friends, he sounds like an utter twat. That’s like saying it’s wrong to be in awe of Lebron if your on the same team as him. In the restaurant I work in, that I’m a part of, I’m amazed at how quickly our chefs get things done, does that mean I’m not involved enough in the restaurant Teddy?

  • NHYankeesFan

Vargas is bringing back a lot of terrible memories of Cliff Lee this game

  • Montero’s Mojo

Don’t waste another good pitching performance. This feels EXACTLY like the Weaver/Haren games, except, this time, the opposing team kind of, just a little bit, in a way, somewhat suck.

  • Greg

They just cant get a good swing off of Vargas. The one time they did, the third base coach made an error.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    2-out magic c’mon

  • Montero’s Mojo

    Thank you, Curtis!

  • Greg

He’s basically Freddy Garcia’ ing the Yankees right now.

  • Kostas

I can’t believe the Yankees don’t play tomorrow. Quitters.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Kershaw getting gangsta

  • Cy Pettitte

Kershaw got ejected for beaning Parra in the 6th throwing a 1 hitter? no warnings. crazy.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He didn’t even get his money’s worth either, it barely hit him.

    • Kostas

I told you all last night this would happen when Kershaw was yelling across the diamond. But based on how he hit Parra, should have drilled his head.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Seeing Andruw Jones lumber around LF these days, it’s kind of hard to remember that he’s one of the greatest defensive outfielders in the history of baseball.

    • AlecT

He was probably the best OF ever, defensively. He was up there with Tris Speaker and Joe DiMaggio in terms of reputation. Too bad he got fat by 30.

  • Tom

    1st 3 innings: 10 batters, 60 pitches
    next 3 innings: 10 batters, 26 pitches

While some of it is certainly on the pitcher, why is the 2nd time through the order a hackfest? It would be one thing if they were making solid contact on pitches early in the count but they are swinging at anything close early in counts the second time through the lineup.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Ok, so they’re not looking like they’re gonna hit tonight.

But I still think Nova is pitching pretty well.

  • Monteroisdinero

If Montero had let that high inside curve go off his glove for the run-all would be blaming him and his defense for this game.

    Not fair.

  • Montero’s Mojo

Damn it! This game blows. Jesus, help us.

  • BK2ATL

Nova’s pitching a helluva game. That one inning control brainfart notwithstanding, and even that wasn’t really that bad.

  • nedro

My son sent a card to Mo in Tampa during ST and it came back signed. Gorgeous.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Come on Tex, something positive!

  • James A

Brandon Stokley: your move eagles, your move.
As for this game, like seeing Nova battle when he’s not his sharpest, although I’m still so unsure of how the playoff rotation is going to look.

  • teddy

teix can go to hell, 3 and 1 hacking. he is a dreadful 3 hitter

    • Greg

To be fair., 3-1 is a hitters count, Mr. Ruxpin.

      • Tom

To be fair when one is in a hitter’s count, a changeup down in the zone is not the pitch you are looking to do damage on…

You look fastball and if the pitcher throws something offspeed for a strike you tip your cap and get ready for 3-2.

        • Jetrer

to be fair, the purpose of a changeup is to fool the hitter into thinking it’s a fastball. Tex didn’t choose to swing at a changeup, he was fooled into thinking he did get a fastball

  • Monteroisdinero

Tex swings at a 3-1 changeup that was ball 4.

  • Rey22

Offense with one foot in the airplane already…

  • Chen Meng Wang

    eek…that was terrible Robby.

  • Montero’s Mojo

HAHAHA! He’s the worst offensive papsmear on this team. I’d even take Big Papi’s flop-sloppy glove at first base to blind me from the atrocity that is Mark Teixera. Can’t stand Teixera. I don’t care what anyone says, he does NOT belong in the 3 hole.

    • Chen Meng Wang

What about your boy in the 6 hole hacking wildly at a 3-1 change up that was a foot outside?

      • Montero’s Mojo

Young, pretty, inexpensive, and not expected to be one of the best hitters in baseball…

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Yeah, if you ignore the 40 home runs and the gold glove defense, that guy sucks!

      • Montero’s Mojo

He’s a waste. Something is wrong with the guy. Is it mechanical, mental? I don’t know. But how do you go from killing it to getting killed? Homeruns are clearly nice but not quite a true measure of one’s talent.

        • Chen Meng Wang

          But Batting Average is?

          • Montero’s Mojo

It is, to an extent. But I also judge a player by the number of infield pop-ups, groundouts, and strikeouts that he records… By that barometer…

            • AaronGuielWithASmile

So home runs aren’t a true measure of one’s talent, but number of infield pop-ups is?

              What??

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    lol, Cano?!?

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    wtf….Vargas????? cmon

  • Monteroisdinero

Just crappy abs with no plate discipline so far.

  • Cy Pettitte

    mind = blown.

maybe put Pena on the mound and he could throw 7 shut out innings.

  • BK2ATL

    Shades of 2010….Cy Vargas….WTF???

  • Cy Pettitte

    SWISH!!!!!

  • Jetrer

    damn stat padder

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    A run!!!

  • Greg

    They finally got to him.

  • http://Www.or.ly MeGustaMontero (JM)

    Neek Svisher!

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    FINALLLLLY

  • Kostas

Ha… al that fucking talk about how Vargas is dominating, it was only a matter of time.

    • BK2ATL

He was dominating us. Look at his line. LOL!!!!!

It only took one pitch though.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Tie game

  • BK2ATL

    Nick Freaking Swisher!!!!! Thank you!!!!

  • Rey22

    Brand new ballgame!

  • Montero’s Mojo

Ugh. Now they HAVE TO win it . . . I don’t like to be teased.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Finally!!!!!!!! and wow Wedge has a really quick hook huh?

    • BK2ATL

You ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait till the half-inning flips and see what our guy does.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Too bad there was NO PRESSURE.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

we’ll revisit that at another time

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Swish.

Ok. Even I have to say good job.

I still hate you, Nick. But well done, dude.

    • Montero’s Mojo

Haha, why do you hate the Swishalicious? Aside from his stats with RISP.

At the games I’ve gone to, he’s easily the most outgoing and altruistic player on the field. He lives for baseball. He loves the fans. I even had a chance to talk to him and he gave me a ball. He’s just very extraverted.

      • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

        he stole my car

        :)

  • Bill

    SEE YA

  • pop up teixeira

    hell yea shisher!!

  • Monteroisdinero

    Pad those stats anytime Nick!

  • tom

The way the game’s gone, I just assumed Swish’s ball would be caught at the wall.

Still can’t believe they’ve been this weak against Vargas.

  • Chen Meng Wang

ain’t nothin but a loud strike.

  • teddy

    whoo! that was close

  • Cy Pettitte

    no more fastballs for Olivo

  • MikeD

It’s a new day. Time for a run, a Mo save, and a win.

  • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

Only 78 pitches through 7? Very nice. He could probably throw a CG if they score a run here.

    • BK2ATL

He’ll get yanked….as our manager can’t resist himself. Nova just had a strong 7th too. It makes no sense. Nova’s got them under control.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

C’mon offense, get this kid a run or two…

  • teddy

lol nice, gardner should tried to steal

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Pinch-runner, pls.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    Pinch run for Andruw please.

  • http://Www.or.ly MeGustaMontero (JM)

    Are you kidding me…

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

At this point complaining about the bunting is just not worth the energy

  • Montero’s Mojo

Chances BG gets picked off/thrown out? Unless the HR signified a turning of the tables, I can’t say that my confidence in Brett is very high at the moment…

  • Jetrer

gotta love giving up outs to bunt over basestealers

  • MikeD

Sure, get him to second using up an out, as opposed to a straight steal to put him on second with no outs.

    Steal third!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Bunting to get to Nunez? At least pinch-hit Chavez.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

When will Girardi learn to 1.STEAL then 2.bunt??

  • teddy

stupid bunting, yanks really trying not to score

  • NHYankeesFan

I was just looking at Matt Moore’s pitch fx data from todays games and he has some ridiculous stuff. His fastball averaged 95.6 mph and 10.26 inches of horizontal movement which is just crazy. His changeup averaged 86.9 mph and 15.23!!! inches of horizontal movement. His slider averaged just under 83 mph and had 4.3 inches of horizontal movement. thats a difference of 14.5 inches between his fastball and slider

    • Monteroisdinero

      But Golson took him deep.

      • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Bunting!

  • Chen Meng Wang

Hooray…wasting an out moving a guy to second who could’ve stole the base anyway.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Brackman sighting

  • Montero’s Mojo

BUCKING FUNT! Why doesn’t Joe get reamed by Upper Management for this small ball bullshit?

    • Greg

Cause he’s got a ring and you dont.

      • Montero’s Mojo

Excuse me? Asinine much? Made no mention of myself. The ’09 team was won on the backs of the players. Joe had NOTHING to do about it. My penis has a ring… Does that qualify it to run a baseball team? Geez…

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

dont worry everybody Proctor is warming up

  • All Praise Be To Mo

NOOOOO!!!!! Why have Martin bunt with Gardner on 1st and no out? Let him steal 2nd at least before wasting an out. Girardi, you suck!!!

    • Tom

Or hit and run (Martin hits the ball on the ground a lot, and you at least have a shot at the ball going through)

I’m pretty sure Girardi doesn’t even have a sign for the hit and run.

  • Naved

Proctor sighting too…..please don’t bring him in

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

NOOOOOOOOO Why the fuck is Proctor warming!?!?!?!

  • your mom

    Brackman warming up. LOL!!!

  • Tom O

Holy crap, Brackman is tall. I knew he was, but seeing him next to Proctor, he towers over him.

    • Chen Meng Wang

Lol, I said the same thing when I saw him warming next to Betances the other day…and Dellin ain’t to short either.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Well, he was a power forward for the NC State basketball team a few years back.

    • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

I got his autograph in Syracuse. He towered over me and I’m 6’3″ and was standing a step up from the front row.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    Bloop single to right please.

  • Greg

Remember Robertson threw 30 pitches yesterday.

    • Scott Proctor 2006

      Your point being???

  • Greg

I tell you what, you guys are angry at the bunt but Kay and Leiter didnt seem upset.

    • All Praise Be To Mo

Because they’re on the YES payroll and I’m sure the bosses wouldn’t like to hear them criticizing their manager. Plus if I disagree with Kay that means I’m correct. To quote Hollywood Henderson “That guy couldn’t spell cat if I spotted him a C and a T”….

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Right down Broadway

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

well, that was small ball at its worst

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    The bunt worked!!

  • Chen Meng Wang

It still seems our offense is halfway to Toronto right now.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Good thing we bunted.

  • ItsATarp

good thing we bunted so Gardner didn;t have a chance to steal

  • your mom

    Boy, I’m glad we bunted.

  • Jetrer

that’s ok Captain, don’t swing at the pitches down the middle

    • Sarah

So much ridiculous in this inning. Bunting before Gardner can steal? Letting Nunez hit instead of PH Chavez? And then Jeter just looking?

I know they want to get on the plane and get their day off, but it would be faster to, you know, get a lead.

  • Avi

Anyone else notice Jeter closing his stance in that At Bat?

  • teddy

giradri is a awful manager, he bats teix 3rd when he sucks and jeter taking pitches right down the pipe and hacking typical

    • Greg

He has a ring and you dont, Mr. Ruxpin.

      • Montero’s Mojo

Oh, I see. You’re a computer… You’ve only been programmed with so many sayings. Gotcha.

      • teddy

yea, did the yanks score, of course they didn’t

    • Jetrer

yes, batting the best Yankee hitter against lefties this year 3rd against a LHP is just plain dumb

    • Sarah

      Who is this giradri?

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Got a feeling Martin bunted the first pitch on his own.

He was probably supposed to bunt at some point during the AB, just not the 1st pitch

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I must say, I’m surprised that Proctor’s not pitching now.

  • Montero’s Mojo

The bunt did its job, guys. Gardner got to second! That’s all that Joe is trying to accomplish because in Girardi Land, getting to second base is JUST as good as scoring.

  • BK2ATL

I just don’t get why you bring in Gardner, don’t give him the chance to steal 2nd, but then you bunt him to 2nd??? Why not let him get to 2nd, then bunt him over to 3rd. Then you have a runner on 3rd with one out.

I don’t mind small ball in the right situations, but make some fucking sense. And this isn’t the first time we’ve done this recently.

    • ItsATarp

Our Manager has his head up his ass.

  • Cy Pettitte

    this guy again? ugh.

  • Greg

Now look at the Mariners bunt.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Mariner’s broadcast turning into Hawk Harrelson.

    • NHYankeesFan

      What are they saying?

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

“Get up! Get up!” on the double.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

This is one of the reasons why I hate living in the Northwest.

  • Cy Pettitte

could have gone to third if Chavez PH and was playing 3rd. good job Nunie you shithead.

    • Greg

Dont know if he would have gotten him.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

when the fuck in Nunez going to learn to stay home on that bunt…Nova could have gone to third for that out

  • ItsATarp

    Holy shit Nunez…COVER THIRD.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    Walk Ichiro please.

  • All Praise Be To Mo

Nunez again messed up, I remember a bunt defense earlier this year where the runner would have been out if he covered 3rd, again he’s not paying attention and makes a bad mistake. He may be talented but not too many baseball smarts.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Stick with Nova, I agree

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      so much 4 that

    • BK2ATL

I was with you on that. But D-Rob is a beast.

  • Cy Pettitte

bring in DRob to save the day

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

That’s like the 5th time this year that Nunez has fucked up that bunt play.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Nunez just has no idea what he’s doing at the hot corner.

Can he get better in the field? Sure. But that’s a play that they teach you in JV ball.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

every time nunez fucks up…it always cost the Yanks….they will score this inning because of that stupid play

    • Monteroisdinero

      Not.

  • MikeD

Sounds like the Mariners are playing a laugh soundtrack to the Yankees walking Ichiro. I guess they have lost all faith in Ichiro.

  • Hall and Nokes

    Nunez is such a DH.

    • ItsATarp

how is a DH when his bat is well below average. He’s not a mlb player right now. Period

    • Elan

A DH needs to be able to hit…

  • Sarah

Hey look, men on 1st and 3rd for DRob. This way he doesn’t have to put them on!

  • Elan

Why Nunez is playing in Major League games is beyond me…

  • NHYankeesFan

If Girardi’s going to bring Robertson in, he should have loaded the bases first to make sure no runs will score

  • Montero’s Mojo

Leave the kid in for Fuck’s sake.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

No freaking way, not after the IBB.

      • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Have you started that study that you’ve said you’d do about what the next batter’s OPS is following the IBB?

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

          Offseason. Maybe.

      • Montero’s Mojo

I like the DRob move, of course, but it always seems as though SuperNova’s on an incredibly short leash. He’s going to have to grow up and mature sooner or later…

  • Tom

At what point does he consider a defensive sub for 3rd?
Is there a rule where you can only replace OF’rs that I’m not aware of?

Chavez is probably tired after spending all day on the bench yesterday and with an off day tomorrow you don’t want to burn him out.

  • your mom

Good job Nova. Too bad the offense didn’t show up again.

    • CUYanks

He’s had his fair share of run support this season.

  • Mister Delaware

One of the few times I’m going to like the IBB.

  • CUYanks

Maybe the Nunez thing will be a blessing in disguise. I have seen that ball thrown away down the third base line too many times on that type of play. Also, for all the flak we’re giving Girardi when it appears he’s not managing to min September games, have to like the thought here bringing Robertson in for a strikeout (regardless of outcome). If anything, it’s a good preview of how we might see him used come postseason.

  • your mom

Should load the bases so DRob can K the last 2 hitters.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Interesting to see how this works out. These situations scream for Robertson.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    one more D Rob

  • Chen Meng Wang

Wow, not tagging at all…I’d at least go back to the base to make Gardner think about it.

    • Mister Delaware

Meh. There’s a better chance those 5 steps will help if Gardner drops the ball than tagging would make Gardner “think” and mess up. 99.9999997% chance Gardner just catches the ball.

  • Monteroisdinero

New chapter in binder section on late inning defense.: Chavez for Nunez.

  • your mom

Where did DRob get his extra velocity from this year? I remember him sitting 91-93 previous years.

  • Scott Proctor 2006

That a boy, D-Rob. You’ve done my former right arm proud.

  • Mister Delaware

    Gas!

  • Montero’s Mojo

Wow. No idea Ichiro had 40 SB.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

One for every time he’s been on base. Buh-zing!

  • Chen Meng Wang

    D-Rooooooob

  • Cy Pettitte

    DRob > everyone else.

    • Sarah

Yes. I feel that I need this on a t-shirt.

Damn.. Robertson is just fucking awesome

  • Bartolo’s Colon

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    How good has he become?

    Seriously?

    He’s so ill.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    D-Rob for President.

  • Montero’s Mojo

PHEW! At least SuperNova can’t get the loss. No matter the outcome, I am now content.

    • Montero’s Mojo

Still though, it’d be nice if the heart of the lineup actually decided to show up for tonight’s game.

  • FIPster Doofus

Robertson is such a fucking boss.

  • CUYanks

David Robertson has been an unbelievable revelation this year.

  • MikeD

    Me no like this park.

  • Cy Pettitte

    ugh. Safeco is stupid.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Wrong part of the park, Curtis.

    GD fucking Safeco

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Middle reliever for MVP!

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Robertson’s stats just can’t tell you about his heart and guts

    • CUYanks

Of course. MVP but definitely not Cy Young consideration. That would be ridiculous.

Not a good night for the big $$$

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    5. Curtis Granderson
    6. Curtis Granderson

lmao I laughed when I read that.
I’m actually going to write that on paper in crayon, and all caps just for laughs, ha.

i dont understand why robertson isnt coming out for an inning he only threw like 10 pitches and hes our best reliever outside of mo. too much faith in soriano.

    • Jetrer

he threw a lot of pitches yesterday as well

    • Greg

      He threw 30 pitches yesterday.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Pitched yesterday, and this is his third appearance in four days. No reason to push him this late in the season given where they are in the standings.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Didn’t he throw like 30 pitches last night?

    • fresco

way to prove me wrong sori. nice inning. heres hoping he gets hot for the playoffs. 2010 sori 2011 robertson and 20whatever mariano is a veryyyy nice backend of the bp.

There’s 35 million reasons to go to him over Wade right now.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Apparently Soriano is higher in the “peaking order” than Wade. We’ll probably see him in the bottom of the 10th if it’s still tied.

  • your mom

What? We haven’t sweeped here since 1999? Craziness.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

      Holy shit, that is crazy.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Nunez’d

  • Greg

To be fair to Nunez, that was a tough play.

    • BK2ATL

LOL, a very tough play. It was crazy that he even got a glove on it. Undeserved hate around here for not making that play. I doubt if A-Rod or Chavez even get there.

Great play by Gardner!!! Pure speed.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    alright…not Nunez fault…….

  • Hummingbird S.

Nunez, still atrocious on the field

  • your mom

    Uhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm. Shit.

  • MikeD

I would have had Posada at third.

  • your mom

    I’m calling walk-off HR.

    • your mom

      Guess I was wrong. Yay.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Tough play

Doesn’t change the fact that Nunez is a butcher with the glove.

  • NHYankeesFan

Is Soriano actually pitching good or are the Mariners hitting really bad?

    • your mom

Mariners have the worst offense period

  • Jetrer

    gritty as hell

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    fuckkkkkkkk yeah

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Gardner made that look so easy.

  • Chen Meng Wang

UZR is so right about Gardner.

  • Cy Pettitte

    GardWAR

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Andruw Jones certainly does not make that play

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

And the grass is green and the sky is blue.

    • Chen Meng Wang

Only a Sith speaks in absolutes.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    UZR’d

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I thought Gardner had zero chance to catch that. Zero, none.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

      Never doubt the UZR.

  • your mom

Geez, this game has only gone on for 2 and a half hours? Seems like 4 hours so far.

  • MikeD

Jones doesn’t catch that, although it’s possible they might have had Jones positioned differently.

  • Rey22

Wow, Gardner is a beast. He ran like a mile.

  • Bill

    Gardner is amazing

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

the yanks get to the 10th, they will put up a 5 spot…

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

I’ll take the under on that.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Bonus baseball!

  • Mister Delaware

    DRS.

  • BK2ATL

Soriano looking like he’s turning it around. We might have something solid there after all.

    • your mom

Ssshhhhhhh, don’t jinx it damn it!

    • MikeD

All will be forgiven if he has a Marte-2009 like postseason.

      • your mom

        What if he has a Marte-like 2010 & 2011?

      • Rey22

Except Marte made in his contract what Soriano made this year alone. He’s gonna have to be good for a while longer to justify that beast.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

They could turn Soriano into a 180 IP, league average starter, and he still wouldn’t be worth that contract.

        • BK2ATL

Blame Tampa for that. The blame goes nowhere else.

In the meanwhile, he is a quality arm out there in combination with Mariano and Robertson. It’s the envy of all potential postseason rosters. Basically 3 bonafide closers.

  • Monteroisdinero

I am a Nunez fan but I can’t take His D and low baseball IQ much longer. Time for a sitdown with the coaching staff.

  • MikeD

I wonder how much you get paid for wearing an elk head and Mariner uniform? I’d really be embarassed to be wearning a Mariner uniform, so the elk head makes it easier to take since you can’t be recognized.

    • your mom

How much do those guys at Chuck E Cheese make?

  • Montero’s Mojo

Seeing as how this game has been one monumental offensive fuck fest, I wouldn’t be surprised if BG, Martin, and Nunez teamed together to win this one.

    • Montero’s Mojo

Should’ve stuck with my gut considering that none of them carry a very big bat…

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Extra innings when you have a cross country red-eye waiting for you … wooo!!!

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

If the Yankees lose this game, there will be panic articles from ESPNNY about how they can’t win in extra innings.

    • Montero’s Mojo

      Well . . . Considering what’s happened lately . . . Losing to the O’s twice and possibly the M’s . . . I wouldn’t say it’s ENTIRELY unwarranted.

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

yeah it is. All extra innings games are mostly luck.

    • Mariano’s Pimp Hand

They are an ugly 4-9 (I think) in extra inning games.

  • fresco

i think one of the things long has to get in the lab about in the offseason is making brett a little more aggressive. he takes way to many down the plate.

  • Jetrer

    Boone Logan. Seriously Joe?

    Great, Boone Logan.

  • Hummingbird S.

  • your mom

Fuck Logan, fall behind the hitters why dont u?

  • Hummingbird S.

Ackley is a good hitter, please dont let Logan face him.

  • jon

ackly walk off calling it now

  • NHYankeesFan

Ackley scares me. Boone Logan makes my fear intensify

  • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

I know Boone is ,well, Boone, but isn’t a LOOGY supposed to get out guys like Ichiro? Just spit balling here.

    • your mom

      I would’ve walked Ichiro too.

      • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

Not saying I have a problem with it, but the whole point of a LOOGY is to get out the brand name left handed hitters. The fact that Ichiro isn’t quite what he used to be just makes it more baffling. Come the postseason it would be nice to have a lefty you can count on to get out guys like Hamilton or Ortiz, ect.

      • fresco

yankees obviously dont wanna get home (not that they arent trying) but vargas. wright. wilhelmsen. cmonnnnn!

  • jon

    yikes thought that was it

  • Hummingbird S.

    Almost lost it. Terrible pitch.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Holy terrible slider, Batman!

  • MikeD

Boone is the only lefty who I feel comfortable pitching to righty batters, and live in fear of him facing lefty batters.

  • your mom

    Inside FB please???

  • Rey22

I vote they talk Leiter out of retirement to be the LOOGY. Can’t be worse than Logan right?

    • MikeD

I’m thinking they should give Ron Guidry a try. Sure he’s in his 60s, and abd can’t hit 96 mph any more, but if he can get his fastball up to 80 out of the pen, I’m sure the slider will still have good tilt. Can’t be any worse.

I’m thinking Whitey Ford in his 80s will be a stetch.

  • jon

    did NOT see that coming

  • Hummingbird S.

    wasnt pretty, but it worked

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    noooooooo way

  • Chen Meng Wang

Boone Logan is so terrible I cannot even believe that he is allowed to breathe the same air as…oh wait, he just kept us going for another inning…

  • BK2ATL

Great job, Boone Logan!!! Nice power stuff under pressure.

  • Jetrer

OK, that means they CAN’T possibly lose now, right???

  • Greg

    Would you look at that?

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Boone doesn’t allow runs? that means we have to win now.

  • CUYanks

Better score now or else face the prospects of a Proctor walk off

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Yeah…get robbed by a gigantic ballpark and nice leaping catch.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Can’t come much closer than that

    • Chen Meng Wang

I understand peoples dislike of AJ, I understand why Soriano isn’t exactly trusted on this board, heck I even understand why some ppl hate Nuney(pre huge slump) but I don’t understand your hatred of Teixeira. His OBP is .342, his ISO is .248, he is above league average in just about every advanced offensive category..what is it that you don’t like?

That would be more appropriate for Tex I think

      • Pat D

He had a point, though, when he said someone might give him a 9th or 10th place vote. Go back through MVP voting histories and you’ll see examples of that, and guys who weren’t as good as Robertson this year, either.

Jeremy Affeldt for the Giants a couple years ago, for example.

  • CUYanks

I think Girardi’s done a pretty darn good job trying to win the game with his use of the bullpen today. Much better than most September games I’ve seen where there’s a decent lead in the standings.

tex and his 246 ba. no need to change his approach after all he has 100 rbi’s. the softest 100 rbi’s in baseball.

tex for a smart guy is not too smart…his approach is horrible, selfish, and not good for the team……………..all or nothing backleg all the time. dead red every pitch every ab…

    horrible….

  • Zack

Tex is a joke…he is too selfish to change his approach at the plate which is NOT working at this point.
And to only get one run tonight…that’s also a joke.

tex obp down to 34%.. he needs to adjust. his all or nothing left field porch approach is getting old fast………..

    • Bill

It’s not like it’s an incredibly hard adjustment either. I mean, a lot of hitters change their approach to hit the ball the other way in the middle of the at-bat when they get to 2 strikes. So it’s not like changing his approach to left center would get him into a funk.

wow I get up and I see that the Yankee game ended up 15 minutes before…that is pretty odd, I’m not gunna lie….I love these West Coast games

“pcaldera (Pete Caldera) Cano went off with a team trainer headed for tests on his foot.”

If we lose him…kiss this season goodbye.
