I’d rather have him 100% then risk using him at anything below. Let him rest and hopefully the mental break and physical repose will pay colossal dividends in the playoffs.
Yanks have been fine without him…Just hope he gets some at bats before the post season to get his timing back

The problem, though, is one of timing. After the surgery, A-Rod has only had 46 PAs for the entire second half of the year, and they haven’t even been consistent PAs because of the thumb injury.
A-Rod’s timing early this season was strong, his fielding excellent. They need to get him back to that and they only way he can do that is with PAs against living pitching. They’re running out of time, so it’s a balance between the health of his hand and games remaining.
I’ve been saying this to my friends for awhile. Alex is no lover the player that can still be a top offensive threat at 70-80%. He’s getting up there and it’s important he plays close to, if not only, 100%. We have a worthwhile replacement in Chavez (BIG credit to Cash), let him man 3B until Alex feels perfect. Oct>Sept
Has anyone commented on Bob Ryan saying that although Mariano is a great pitcher, the Closer position is overrated ?….on a day when his beloved red Sox blew a save….what a jackass
I don’t care what Ryan has to say, but the save stat is flawed in general, and for that reason I’d rather call him a high-leverage pitcher rather than a closer.

But he’s not always used in the high leverage situations. 3 run lead with no one on base isn’t high leverage.
I saw that on PTI. He’s a fucking joke. I was so pissed off when I heard that. Also Mitch Williams said that the 8th inning is more important than the 9th inning. It’s completely and utterly stupid with the amount of hate of the Yankees and their players. I swear, if the Yankees can win the World Series it will be sweeter than ever.
Mitch Williams should be taken as seriously as that guy I saw on a subway platform a couple weeks ago going on about Judgment Day being upon us.

Nova is way better on the road, so I’d say no. The same can be said of Garcia. I’d go with Bart in Game 2.

Kind of depends on what the series’ status is. If the Yanks are down 2-1, I think they’d be hard-pressed to throw anyone but CC in Game 4.

Bard has a 30.86 ERA over his last 3 appearances. I know ERA doesn’t mean shit with a reliever, but that’s still pretty funny.
Just means that we’ll see Paplepuke in Boston next year as the closer.

I think there was doubt after the year PapelCum (hey, might as well continue with the theme) had in 2010 and the year Bard had. It seemed like they were grooming Bard for the closer’s role. The other issue is PapelClit’s ego and his desire to be the highest-paid reliever in the game.
I honestly would be OK with that. No way he repeats his performance next year, and they will have to spend money on him that they could have been using to get a better starter.

Trying to find some sources, but he seems to work very hard at it and studied under some of the best coaches. Its not really discussed much, but he has a reputation of being very good. One article had a coach saying he could be the best in the game.

Wasn’t a bad idea. Just that Jones stumbled coming around 3rd. Thompson had already been waving him home. It was a good gamble as the ball was dying as it rolled down the line. Jones stumbling messed up the play. Can’t blame Jones or Thompson for that one. I like the aggressive decision. Seattle just executed the relay perfectly.

Seeing Andruw Jones lumber around LF these days, it’s kind of hard to remember that he’s one of the greatest defensive outfielders in the history of baseball.
He was probably the best OF ever, defensively. He was up there with Tris Speaker and Joe DiMaggio in terms of reputation. Too bad he got fat by 30.

While some of it is certainly on the pitcher, why is the 2nd time through the order a hackfest? It would be one thing if they were making solid contact on pitches early in the count but they are swinging at anything close early in counts the second time through the lineup.
Ok, so they’re not looking like they’re gonna hit tonight.
But I still think Nova is pitching pretty well.

I was just looking at Matt Moore’s pitch fx data from todays games and he has some ridiculous stuff. His fastball averaged 95.6 mph and 10.26 inches of horizontal movement which is just crazy. His changeup averaged 86.9 mph and 15.23!!! inches of horizontal movement. His slider averaged just under 83 mph and had 4.3 inches of horizontal movement. thats a difference of 14.5 inches between his fastball and slider

It’s not like it’s an incredibly hard adjustment either. I mean, a lot of hitters change their approach to hit the ball the other way in the middle of the at-bat when they get to 2 strikes. So it’s not like changing his approach to left center would get him into a funk.
