Game 153: Win-win

Girardi on Cervelli: 'I'm not sure we're going to have him'
Triple-A Scranton Yanks still don't have a home for 2012

You know what the best part of tonight’s game is? It’s that no matter what happens, it’ll be a pretty good outcome for the Yankees. A win drops the magic number for a playoff spot to just two, and a loss allows the Rays to (at least) keep pace with the Red Sox for the wildcard. I know Boston’s rotation looks ugly at the moment (and it is), but I have zero interest in facing John Lester/Josh Beckett/Erik Bedard six times in a seven game series with that offense and Daniel Bard/Jonathan Papelbon at the end of the game. I’d rather take my chances with Tampa’s rotation, Evan Longoria and some other dudes, and Joel Peralta/Kyle Farnsworth. Here’s the lineup…

Derek Jeter, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, DH
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Eric Chavez, 3B
Russell Martin, C
Brett Gardner, LF

Ivan Nova, SP

It’s a little rainy in the Tri-State Area, so you know what that means …My9! It’ll also be on MLB Network for you out of towners. The weather isn’t too bad though, they should be able to get all nine innings in. First pitch is scheduled for a little after 7pm ET. Enjoy.

  • Zanath

The best possible outcome is we win and Boston loses.

    • Pat D

      Of course.

    • BK2ATL

Go play Mega Millions and Powerball…fast!!!

  • Avi

    Go Rays!
I hope Davis throws a perfect game tonight.

  • Tyrion Lannister

Girardi needs to play scoreboard. If by the middle innings the Sox are up by a few runs we need to wave the white flag and send Proctor out there. If the Os are up we can afford to send out our better relievers and win one vs the Rays.

  • The Big City of Dreams

    My9 smh great just great

  • Craig

A few months ago everyone always said how Colon was the most exciting pitcher to watch, with Nova closer toward the bottom. As of today, their starts are equally captivating.

  • Kevin G.

No, it’s a loss-loss. If we win, we help the Red Sox. If we lose, we lose and losing sucks.

    /Half-empty

  • Kramerica Industries

Would much prefer the Yankees magic number read 0 before we go full frothe in rooting for the Rays.

I mean, when that does happen, I wouldn’t mind at all the Rays rooting.

    • Pat D

      Win tonight, win tomorrow afternoon.

      Then can root for Rays.

      Maybe.

      • Kramerica Industries

And hope the O’s kick tail in the mean-time.

Then this team can exact a season’s worth of revenge on the Red Sox this week-end.

  • Kevin G.

Holy fuck. I love David Cone

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

These are Michael Kay’s favorite games because no matter what, you win! It’s all about the wins!!

  • duzzi23

This is ridiculous Montero plays every two or three games Girardi needs to give him regular at bats to get him ready for the playoffs and get him into a rythm.

    • CNP

He also needs to give Chavez at bats heading into the postseason. And giving a-rod half a night off isnt the worst thing in the world

      • StanfordBen

Jesus should be prioritized because (a) every game dramatically increases his total Major League experience and (b) he should be getting more postseason at bats than Chavez.

  • Bronx Byte

The best case scenario is to reduce the magic number as soon as possible and be assured of home field advantage.
Have Baltimore win the next 2 games and if the Yankees split with the Rays it makes it easier for the Yankees to knock out Boston by themselves over this coming weekend.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Baltimore wont win the next two games.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Well ya know Suzyn..ya just and predict baseball.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Even still, I would be shocked if The Fightin Showalters win the next two. They shock me whenever they win.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

I’m still amazed by the size of Michael Kay’s cranium compared to Flash’s and Coney’s.

  • nedro

    Coney! Yay!

  • JobaWockeeZ

They didn’t get a berth yet but fuck it. Go Rays.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I have a sneaking feeling that the playoff rotation will be based on wins:

    CC: 19 wins
    Nova: 15 wins
    Freddy: 11 wins
    Colon: 8 wins

    Makes perfect sense!!

    • Chen Meng Wang

You’ve never sounded smarter, you animal.-Micheal Kay

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

If we still had Aceves, he would be starting game 4.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I’m not so sure of that. Aceves was never anything special as a starter.

        • StanfordBen

I think it was a sarcastic comment, noting that Aceves would have had more than 10 wins.

          • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

            This, Axisa.

Well, Jose Iglesias was still in the minors, so…

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Has anybody been keeping track of Tex’s stats since he closed his stance?

  • CS Yankee

Heard that the BoSox haven’t won a game where they scored less than nine runs since (like) August 27th. Unreal.

I want the Rangers in the first round and then plan to beat the bestest MVP of all-time twice more or beat up on the team that was suppose to make the ’27 Yankees look like a flawed team.

    • Kramerica Industries

Not entirely true – they did win last Friday 4-3.

Other than that, I’m pretty sure the stat is correct.

  • nedro

Jesus, Wade. This is fucking torture. Wasn’t sure if Beckett got traded, the breakneck pace this guy is setting.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

way to strike out against a guy who doesnt strike people out

  • Tom

    Wade Davis with Kazmir-like (or DiceBB-like) efficiency…

Hopefully the Yankees don’t start hacking the 2nd time through the lineup and have him at 100 pitches through 5innnings

    • CS Yankee

…or three innings to get to 100.

  • Tyrion Lannister

VandenHurk won’t hold it together for long. We need to ease up on Wade Davis if we want to keep the Rays in this.

Nova going for the 63 pitch complete game tonight.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

  • Rey22

That was going to bean Kotchman lol

  • Chen Meng Wang

MARK TEIXEIRA IS TERRIBLE!!! I WANT HIM OFF THIS TEAM IMMEDIATLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!11!!!!!1

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

That would have hit Kotchman right in the butt cheek.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    D. a million times D.

  • CS Yankee

I was told that Nova in Spanish means “won’t go”, I wonder what AJ means in Spanish?

    • Kramerica Industries

      Shit?

  • Kramerica Industries

    #8 hitters vs. Davis – .299 BA
    #9 hitters – .317

Sounds like he’d fit in well on this team.

  • Rey22

I’ve already come to peace with the fact that Boston will very very likely make the playoffs regardless of their recent slide, so these games are so incredibly stress-free for me. If the Yankees win, great, an inch closer to the playoffs, and if they lose, it keeps the pressure on Boston for one more day. All’s good.

  • Tom

    Hmmm… I wonder what Gardner’s going to be doing…

    • pat

      BEING AWESOME?

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

oh shit, now that means Girardi is going to keep bunting in the 2nd inning.

    btw Gardner was out

  • Kramerica Industries

    Break it open right here.

  • Tyrion Lannister

What is Coney looking at? He had no shot at getting the runner at 3rd.

A piece of their soul dies every time they cheer for the Yankees.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Sox fans have souls? I guess you do learn something new everyday.

        • SevenAces

He didn’t say COMPLETE souls, he meant whatever soul they have left.

        • jay h

there is a high percentage of gingers among sox fans so not all of them have souls

      • SDM

        Sox fan’s were like gingers….

        They have no soul

  • Hall and Nokes

If Grandy helps the Sox get into the playoffs does that make him MVP?

  • CS Yankee

Wade, pacing himself to be at 100 after four.

Nova, pacing himself to be at 56 after eight.

  • Tom Zig

Switch Cano and Tex next year in batting order.

    • Chen Meng Wang

A-Rod wouldn’t get anything to hit. Ever.

      • Tom Zig

get the better hitter more ABs.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Granderson has been in front of Tex all year and he’s had plenty to hit.

      • Kevin G.

It’s not like you’re putting Cervelli behind him.

    • Urban

Protection is a myth, especially in a lineup like the Yankees.

And even in a down year for Tex, Cano still only has ten OBP points on him.

      Move is pointless.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    26 pitches???? Damns Nova

  • Karl Krawfid

    1-1 o’s

  • Jetrer

    2-1 O’s
    lol Reddick fail

    • Tom

Cue the “devastated by injuries” storyline on ESPN as they talk about the critical JD Drew injury

  • CS Yankee

    Things I’ve noticed on MLB Gameday backdrop;

    1) O’s seats are mostly empty in LF.
    2) Yankees are mostly filled in the RF upper deck.
    3) BoSox have every seat filled plus people in the aisles.

MSM biased, or replicated from an actual game or average turnout?

    • jay h

      most likely the average turnout

  • SevenAces

Hah! The fighting Showalters up 2-1.

  • Cy Pettitte

O’s up 2-1 now. lol Sox pithing is the pits.

    • Mariano’s Pimp Hand

I always hated pithing in biology class.

    • CS Yankee

Bases juiced, T3, 2 outs and free swinging-homer happy Reynolds at the dish.

  • Urban

    No injuries, please.

Is that the same elbow that’s already injured?

  • Cy Pettitte

    Chavez is heating up again

  • SevenAces

Wow Chavez’s went down and got it, nice hit.

  • Guns of the Navarone

    Put this game away Russell

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Lol Bedard at 70 pitches in 2.2 innings.

    • Cy Pettitte

isn’t he on a pitch count too? No Aceves tonight either. That pen is shredded.

  • Cy Pettitte

    lol Flaherty

  • thetruth

The Sox just look horrible…that need a good old fashion dose of Yankees to get them back to normal…hitting home runs and scoring 12 runs a game

  • Tom

Tough spot for Maddon with a doubleheader tomorrow…. he might need Davis to just bite the bullet

  • Karl Krawfid

    4-1 o’s

    • Cy Pettitte

this is all with 2 outs. lmao. that’s so bad.

      • Jetrer

and only because Reddick misplayed a liner that should have been the third out with the score still tied

  • Tyrion Lannister

Here come the Os! We might get our best scenario- W for us, L for Boston.

    • alittleblackegg

That’s what I’m rooting for. As always!

  • Urban

    4-1 O’s.

    Let’s go Brett.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

4-1 O’s on a Reynolds 2 run single. Bedard done after 2.2 innings haha.

    • Tom

He had Wade Davis like efficiency…. 76 pitches to get 8 outs…

  • Karl Krawfid

Red Sox should have had Razor Ramon visit the players.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      Machismo, baby.

  • Cy Pettitte

Having Bedard go 2.2 is exactly what that Sox pen needed tonight, lol. I think it’s a toss up between them and ATL for most abused pen this year.

  • DERP

Bedard threw over fifty pitches that inning and still didn’t get through it.

  • Montero’s Mojo

Oh fu**! What a waste of a good at bat.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Gee, another Red Sox starter out before the 6th inning. I love this.

  • 1stbase

nice job keeping the rays in the game, brutal

  • Montero’s Mojo

Yankees doing what Yankees do best… (Grandyman notwithstanding)

    • Sweet Dick Willie

What’s that? Leading a playoff potential team 4-0 after 3 innings?

  • thetruth

bases loaded, no runs…..ahhh feels like home

  • Chen Meng Wang

One thing I love about MLBN’s love affair with Boston is I’ve been able to watch all their games the last couple of days

/broke and doesn’t get to watch Out of Area games normally

    • Montero’s Mojo

Wait… Hold up now… You’re telling me that the MLBN AND ESPN are Boston biased now?!?!?! WTF!!! I thought MLBN was supposed to bring objectivity to the sport and not get on its knees like those twats in Bristol… Damnit! I think I’m genuinely upset. It’s enough that Curt Schilling should have a job with ESPN but to hear this about MLBN…

      • Chen Meng Wang

They’ve been on Boston’s dick since this past offseason. They all picked ‘em to go to the WS and have gone out of their way to rep them all year it seems since.

  • MannyGeee

Trivia question…. Did Petitte/Clemens win 20 in Houston? my guess in Clemens

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      I think it’s David Wells.

      • MannyGeee

        ooooooooooooooooooooh, yeah, that’ll work

        • MannyGeee

          well played Mike

      • Chen Meng Wang

        Well done Mike.

  • MannyGeee

Chavez making a gold glove play there.

  • Monteroisdinero

  • Avi

I really want Tampa to win tonight. Why do they have to be playing the damn Yankees!?!

  • Urban

When I flip on the Red Sox game for an update, I can’t take it for more than a few minutes. Ijust can’t take Jerry Remy. His voice makes my ears bleed.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Vanden Hurk and the O’s trying their best to give it all back

    • Cy Pettitte

honestly, are you surprised? O’s are gonna need a lot more than 4 to win this, lol.

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I probably got my hopes up too much after they won a 1 run game yesterday, hopefully the O’s can feast on the Sox lolpen.

  • Kramerica Industries

Not taking long for the O’s to give it back…

  • Jetrer

this wildcard race might get interesting if only the O’s had any pitching

    • Urban

I can’t get too interested in any Oriole lead until it’s late in the game. The Orioles pitching is just so bad. It’s like they have AJ going every night.

      • Jetrer

        yes, it’s exactly like that

      • MannyGeee

interesting narrative there. think they’d take AJ in a trade this winter? be happy to take ANY of their shitty young arms in trade. ANY of them… seriously

and eat some of that salary… come on Angelos, think about it

        • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I think the best they can do is AJ for Bay. no way the O’s would take AJ off the Yankees hands.

          • MannyGeee

SOLD! at least Bay is cheaper sorta) and can mash in Fenway. 4thOF FTW!!!!

  • MannyGeee

it really is hard to hate Johnny Damon, although all conventional wisdom says you’re supposed to root against him…

    • Karl Krawfid

      Johnny’s my boy.

      Doesn’t sugar coat anything.

  • Karl Krawfid

Tex didn’t want to try for that?

  • Chen Meng Wang

That was a very interesting commercial from a directing sense…it’s hard to make a continuous shot work like that.

    • Mariano’s Pimp Hand

Have you seen the beach scene from “Atonement”? A minutes long continuous single camera shot moving across varying terrain.

Now back to your game thread.

      • Montero’s Mojo

Or the war scene from Children of Men with Clive Owen

      • Chen Meng Wang

That’s very impressive. As an assignment for a film studies class we had to do a thirty second continuous shot scene, probably the most difficult thing I’ve tried to film. We did a That 70’s Show circle.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Children of Men. That movie has like, 15 minute long continuous shots in war scenes and what not.

        • Montero’s Mojo

          Beat you to it, hoss.

      • Mariano’s Pimp Hand

The scene in Goodfellas where they go through the innards of the nightclub is good as well.

        • Chen Meng Wang

When They go to the Copa the first time? Awesome scene. Another great one from Goodfellas is at the restaurant when Ray(Narrator) Is introducing everybody.

    Back to your game thread…

    • MannyGeee

yeah, that is a little taste of awesome… horrible pick by the Yankees to take a guy who MASHED in his first professional showing…

    • JobaWockeeZ

How does being ranked first in the GCL mean shit? Didn’t we see articles of how Mariano wasn’t the best Rivera in his family? It’s cool but that’s it.

      • http://RAB Nuke LaDoosh

It is cool and it does mean shit. Did you read the BA content? Sure prospects miss sometimes (in fact most of the time.) But his showing in GCL validates the pick. Pro Scouts loved him a hell of a lot more than amateur scouts (even his 3B defense.) That means shit. Not saying he is a sure thing. Just that the pick is validated.

  • Karl Krawfid

    I hate you Tex.

Just drop a damn bunt down.

  • Montero’s Mojo

Good golly, Tex is so mondo uber bad.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

its all about the glove with Tex…

      • Montero’s Mojo

Yeah, I keep hearing that… Doesn’t console me the slightest each time I hear it. I seriously hope that this is and will be the LAST time Tex ever looks so bad in pinstripes. I can’t take any more seasons of a popup, groundout, strikeout happy first basemen. I’ve already started the Prince Fielder campaign in my shower.

        • Foghorn Leghorn

tex better watch it..he’s turning into the Julio Iglesias of 1B.

  • MannyGeee

hmmmm, IBB to Cano. does it bite the Rays in the ass like it so frequently does to the Yankees?

Starting to get a bad feeling about this game…. the Yankees should have put this one to bed already.

    • Chen Meng Wang

      They kind of have.

  • Karl Krawfid

Can anyone really explain why Tex is batting 3rd?

Cano is not getting a damn thing to hit in the 5 spot.

    Tex can’t hit at all.

    • Greg

He wont get anything to hit if Tex hits sixth

And he needs to protect ARod.

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

He wont get anything to hit if Tex hits sixth

Grandy has gotten plenty to hit with Tex behind him.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Batting 2nd and 4th are more supposedly more important so Im fine with Teix staying 3rd. I’d prefer 5th but whatever.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yep. The three hitter comes to the plate with the bases empty and two outs more than anyone else. Good spot to have a batter that can run into one.

      • Karl Krawfid

Yeah but the past couple of days, They are just pitching around Cano to pitch to Swish.

I really doubt they would do that with A-Rod behind him.

        Or Switch Cano and Grandy.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

Remy’s voice sounds like what an asshole would sound like if it could talk

Unrelated to the game, I am happy MLBN has hired Brian Kenny. Major addition of professionalism to their frat house broadcasts.

    • Chen Meng Wang

I was so happy to hear it yesterday when they announced it :) Glad I wasn’t the only one. BK was awesome when he was on 1050 with the Steven A. Smith show.

    • MannyGeee

yeah, the MLBN peckerhead show is just brutal. anything they can do to make it more pallatable is just fine by me.

  • MannyGeee

Fucking Jeter is still making that running grab-and-throw like its still 1999. fantastic!

  • Foghorn Leghorn

well…it looks like the Vanderhook expiriment is now over. quite a pitching duel between him and Beeeehhhdaaaaahhhd

    • Tom Zig

    • Urban

When I heard Remy try and pronounce Bedard’s name, I went into a convulsion and started flipping around on the floor like a dying fish out of water. Fortunately I was able to reach the remote control before life left me.

  • MannyGeee

fucking Jo-Jo Reyes just loaded the bases in Fenway with no one out. why do they only play the Yankees hard? Fuck you Showalter.

and to boot, Ellsburys 200th hit. shitty

      Ellsbury had a fantastic season.

      But yeah, fuck Buck

    Wasn’t Ross Detwiler a Yankee?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      You mean Ohlendorf?

      • Karl Krawfid

        I know Ohlendorf was.

I remember a Yankee Detwiler though.

    • Greg

I think you’re thinking of Ross Ohlendorf

  • Hall and Nokes

Jo Jo Reyes in the game? Why not just forfeit?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Nah, let the Sox burn through their bullpen.

  • mbonzo

Orioles defense is such a joke.

  • MannyGeee

Mark Reynolds just fucked up an inning ending DP. 30th error of the season. 5-4 BOS.

  • Montero’s Mojo

I wasn’t expecting Davis to still be in the game… Shame on you, Yankees, shame on you.

    • Greg

      Well look at that.

  • Mr Obvious

Redsox just got a gift run.

Mark Reynolds with another error 30 on the season.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

he is useless…but i guess that explains why he’s on the O’s

  • Foghorn Leghorn

how the hell do the Sox land two series at the end of the year with the O’s?

    • Greg

Because they didn’t play them as much earlier in the year.

      • Foghorn Leghorn

no shit??? my point is how the hell can you have the rays play the yanks twice and then the sox get the O’s…they should spread that out a bit.

the only reason the sox are going to make it is b/c they have these two series against that crap team.

        • MannyGeee

FWIW the Rays were supposed to suck this year too after losing their big names to FA and trades… and the O’s were supposed to be markedly better under the infinite guidence of Showalter…

          thems the breaks

          • Jetrer

Rays weren’t expected to suck. I think most picked the Rays to finish third.

      • Montero’s Mojo

I think it’s just a TAD different when playing one of the worst teams in baseball in the beginning of the year as opposed to the end. I’d certainly rather face the O’s for two series than have to tee off against the Rays and Sox. The Sox have it easier, I don’t think that anyone can argue that. The Sox home stretch, their run for October, is only impeded by Buck Showalter, not CC Sabathia, Robinson Cano, David Price, and Evan Longoria…

    • Montero’s Mojo

While we play the Rays in two series, the same Rays that were one of the best teams in baseball. I’m convinced that the Sox are given preferential treatment when it comes to scheduling, but that’s just me.

      • Guns of the Navarone

Even I wouldn’t go that far. The Sox also had to play a bunch of games against the Yanks and Rays in September.

      • Greg

I’m not sure. Experts thought they would be 120-23 by now.

      • Tom

This is the first time in I think 8 years their final series isn’t at home… but it will effectively be a home game in Baltimore for them.

        • Montero’s Mojo

          Yup.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Nah, the final series in 2009 was in Tampa. Remember the A-Rod 2 HR, 7 RBI inning?

          • Urban

I think he meant this is the first time in eight years the Red Sox haven’t ended the season at home. I’m not sure if that’s true. Too lazy to go look. I don’t like the implications if it is true.

    • Urban

…while the Yankees have seven against the Rays?

You know, for decades, every year the MLB schedule for all teams was created by a couple from Massachusetts.

I believe that ended, but only two or three years back. If not, I would be yelling conspiracy.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I bet the GCL Yankees could beat the Orioles

    • Grit for Brains

They should do this type of thing.

    • Greg

      Mini-Bichette would go to town.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

I bet I could take 8 random posters on this site along with myself and we could make a pretty good run at the O’s.

      • MannyGeee

        I call 1st base!

      • SevenAces

Need an OF? Sign me up.

      • Kevin G.

        I got DH

  • Guns of the Navarone

Time for a patented HR off a lefty.

  • MannyGeee

and sidebar… in case rally moneys, cowbells and vuvuzuelas are not the epitimy of annoying sport gimmicks, the Red Sox bullpen band is going to make me shit my britches.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZzklW7PU_w

  • Cy Pettitte

that wasn’t pretty for the Rays

  • mbonzo

    Nice throw Kotch.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Grandy man

  • Rey22

So who had Ivan Nova starting game 2 of the playoffs at the beginning of the year?

    • MannyGeee

who had Bartolo Colon still upright in October at the beginning of the year??

  • Chen Meng Wang

The Rays have to be asking themselves “how did this scheduling come to be? We’re playing probably the best overall team in the AL while trying to come back, and the Sox are playing a AA team?”

    • Greg

They should gotten their buisness done against the O’s last week.

      They missed some chances there.

      • Cy Pettitte

exactly. they play the O’s just as many times as the Sox.

  • Karl Krawfid

A-Rod is gonna pass Gehrig right here.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

Vlad just got caught stealing. Buck has lost his mind.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

Buck just lost his shit also…ejected

    • MannyGeee

good thing he ran there and got CS, he woulda scored on that 2B by Jones…

I am starting to think we were mislead as to the infinite wisdom of Buck Showalter.

  • mbonzo

    Weiters did not swing there.

  • Tom Zig

Does Scott Atchison pitch every day?

  • Karl Krawfid

Ok What the fuck was that

  • Montero’s Mojo

WTF! Is this team allergic to hitting with the bases loaded?! Damnit, this game is surprisingly painful. I don’t even want to see how many they’ve left on base.

    • Greg

The score is 5-0. We dont care about style points.

Remember. this is the same team that hit 3 grannies in a game.
      (insert joke)

      • Montero’s Mojo

Yeah, but it doesn’t make it any less annoying. It seems like they’ve loaded the bases in every single inning, yet the score’s only 5-0. Let’s just say that I’d be more entertained if the Yankees steamrolled their opposition. I haven’t had a chance to see much of that lately.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

The Yankees have been, by far, the best hitting team in the league with the bases loaded this year. .345/.363/.614

      http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/t.....order/true

      • Montero’s Mojo

Well considered me baffled. This game has singlehandedly rewritten history within the confines of my cranium. But, my point remains… I want blood! I want 20 runs on the board before we venture into the playoffs. I want to know that this offense can explode at ANY second.

        • Greg

THe thing is that the load the bases a ton so that it feels like they have failed alot.

        • Chen Meng Wang

Your into the wrong sport for instant gratification…baseball is a game of offensive failure, were you’re considered a great offense if you get on base 40% of the time. Imagine if in the NBA if a good FG% was 36%?

      • Chen Meng Wang

Damn, a .977OPS with the bases loaded?! Impressive.

    • Chen Meng Wang

According to the gameday cast they’re hitting .307 with RISP tonight.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

O’s are so full of fail right now…

  • mbonzo

They didn’t even get the tag on Jones. These umps are blind as fuck. Glad I’m not the Orioles or Rays with these bullshit calls for the Red Sox.

    • MannyGeee

yeah, being shitty can only take you so far. got to catch some bad breaks and worse calls to suck as loudly as the Os have this season

  • flamingo

Checking Gameday from class – Nova at 60 pitches in the 6th? Wow.

    • MannyGeee

62 through 5.1, and making his pitches by and large.

  • Monteroisdinero

    DJ4K!

  • Foghorn Leghorn

a lot of yankee fans complain but could you seriously imagine being an Orioles fan?

    • Chen Meng Wang

When it comes to NBA I’m a Nets fan, so I can relate with them a little bit.

  • Tom

Were the Rays really having the ball checked?

  • pat

His curve has gotten so much more effective with the increased usage of his slide piece.

  • Tyrion Lannister

There’s your #2 starter. One hell of a rise for a guy people said wouldn’t be any better than a 5th starter.

  • flamingo

    SuperNova!

  • MannyGeee

Nova is an absolute Monster… I have a full blown man-crush.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Yay Ivan.

  • BK2ATL

    Super-Nova!!!!!

    I love this kid’s moxie!!!

I think this might be his best game in totality so far, and against a quality opponent.

    • Greg

This and the game against the Reds who were at the time competitive.

    • BK2ATL

Well, I remember his 1st big league start last year when he repeatedly went up and in on Bautista in Toronto. Something rarely seen from Yankee pitchers not named Sabathia. And he was hitting 97-98 regularly.

The kid showed me something then. Glad to watch him develop into a solid pitcher in NY.

  • Chen Meng Wang

He’ll neva amount ta anything moah then a numba 4!! How can you say he’s a numba 2?!!

    /Mike Francesa’d

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Robinson Cano: Good at baseball.

  • Urban

    Dumb move here.

  • Tyrion Lannister

I don’t understand it either, Coney. Stupid to put another man on base.

  • mbonzo

Agree with Cone here. WTF are they doing walking Swisher?

    • Tom

How did the official scorer give AGon an RBI on that forceout at home?

Are they seriously thinking the guy from 2nd is scoring on a groundball to first? This isn’t the case of you can’t assume a DP… this is the official scorer assuming a guy is scoring from 2nd on that play.

      • Tom

        reply fail….

      • Urban

I didn’t see that play, but it doesn’t sound possible. Someone screwed up somewhere to allow the run to score from second, so it shouldn’t be an RBI. Home-town scoring trying allow Gonzalez to lead the league in RBIs?

In fairness, Grandy was awarded a hit (and an RBI) by the official scorer, but that was a simple judgment call. The one by the Red Sox scorer seems impossible.

  • Karl Krawfid

Eric Chavez looks like the guy that played in The Hulk that came out in 2003.

He also played in The Time Travelers Wife.

    Eric Bana is his name.

  • Montero’s Mojo

Please, please, please, PLEASE open up a can of whoop ass. Please. Thank you.

  • Tom Zig

I just wish the O’s pitchers would stop out-sucking the Red Sox

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

That Aflac commercial with the rapping birds is right behind Two and a Half Men in the race for “thing on TV that was most obviously made by a white person.”

  • MannyGeee

i still cant believe Saltalamaccia is the answer on a $160M team. it seriously blows my dick off.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

      I can buy Salty.

What I can’t believe is that, with their season hanging in the balance, $160 million couldn’t buy them anything better than Lackey and Weiland for a double header yesterday.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Well, the Yankees have a $200M payroll and their rotation isn’t all that great. But at least Warren, Phelps, and Mitchell are better than what the Sox had to fall back on.

        • AaronGuielWithASmile

Our rotation isn’t great, but it blows Boston’s out of the water.

        • Mr Obvious

I’d also add that Millwood would’ve been a upgrade if the Redsox didn’t dump him.

  • thetruth

thank God Nova is pitching well…cause this is the kinda game the Yanks could lose 6 to 5

    • jay h

yes, when you score 5 runs, you’re prone to losing if you give up more than 5

  • Tom Zig

Gameday says those two were strikes vs Gardner

  • MannyGeee

If Swisher wasn’t so slow, that would been a tough play to force him out there….

    /PosadaSaidSo’d

  • Tom

How did the official scorer give AGon an RBI on that forceout at home?

Are they seriously thinking the guy from 2nd is scoring on a groundball to first? This isn’t the case of you can’t assume a DP… this is the official scorer assuming a guy is scoring from 2nd on that play.
    (ignore my reply stupidity above)

    • Jetrer

      you sure?
the gameday box score says he has 3 RBI’s
he had an RBI double in the first and 2 run HR in third

      • Tom

I was looking at the ESPN.com boxscore…. shocking that they would give him the RBI…

        • Jetrer

yeah, that play definitely wouldn’t deserve an RBI

          • Tom

And they changed it back to 3 RBI (ESPN was probably just putting in what they were hoping for, I still don’t see any way they could have seen that initially as an RBI)

  • Tyrion Lannister

For God’s sake, Jo Jo Reyes just gave you 3 innings of scoreless ball. Score more runs, Os! This is a beat up pen.

  • Greg

That’s a strange decision by Maddon.

    • Greg

And then of course Nova lets him off that hook by hitting him. He has lost command.

      • Urban

        He didn’t hit him.

He unfortunately did walk the hitter.

        • Greg

          I meant Jose Lobaton.

  • thetruth

    lol

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

That wasn’t even close to a HBP….blind old fuck.

  • Pat D

    Come on, Orioles!!

  • MannyGeee

    wow… hit batter, huh?

  • Urban

Oh, come on, ump. What the hell is that about?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Here comes the meltdown

    • Greg

You know AJ’s not pitching right?

      • MannyGeee

which is why he’s saying this in the 7th instead of the 4th

  • Kevin G.

    Ruh-roh

  • C

It’s okay, Nova’s just trying to put some pressure on Boston

  • Tyrion Lannister

See what the kid is made of. Let him get a groundball to get out of this.

  • thetruth

trade a run for a double play

    • Chen Meng Wang

or get a pop up and a double play, allowing zero runs :)

      • Chen Meng Wang

        called that shit..prophetic I be.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Remember when Jeter caused an international incident by taking first base on a pitch that didn’t hit him against Tampa last year?

Something tells me that there won’t be as much outrage about Lobaton doing the exact same thing.

  • JC

Hope you guys are enjoying the MY9 broadcast
Here in Australia ESPN have decided in their infinite wisdom to show the titanic battle between the twins and the mariners…… holy jesus, thank mo for mlb.tv

    • MannyGeee

haha, well you know how foreign sports can be. the uniforms are prettier = thats the game we’re showing!

  • Cy Pettitte

    Nova WOW!

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

But…but…who will start game 2 in the playoffs???

    • Pat D

      Howie Spira or Ed Whitson.

  • Tyrion Lannister

The kid got the job done.

  • MannyGeee

wow, this Nova kid might be onto something

  • pat

    BALLS

  • Jetrer

    sweet escape!!!

  • BK2ATL

    This kid is good!!!!

    What a Superman escape!!!!

  • Greg

    Bow to Nova

  • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

    Now he’s just showing off.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Awesome.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Very nice, Ivan. Very nice.

  • Karl Krawfid

I been throwing stones at Nova a lot.

    Got to give him credit.

  • flamingo

    OH MY GOD WOW

  • Bartolo’s Colon

wait, i cant tell, is this start good or bad

    • BK2ATL

The Yanks are winning 5-0, with Nova pitching his nuts off.

      /FuckBoston

      • Bartolo’s Colon

no i didn’t mean that way, i definitely would not want the yanks to lose, especially with not having the division locked up yet. i was just referring to nova getting into and out of a lot of trouble the last few innings although i wasn’t being all that serious. don’t get me wrong, i still would like him as our #2

  • SevenAces

Nova showing he isn’t rattled by a bunch of base runners and battled, ice flowing through those veins.

    • MannyGeee

cool as the other side of the pillow.

    • SDM

As cool a Billy Dee Williams and Samuel L Jackson put together

      Ivan “Lando BMF” Nova

  • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

How much of this is legit from Nova and how much of it is him pitching over his head? I’m not sure what to believe at this point.

    • SDM

I’d say legit, think about it he really was two pitch pitcher at the beginning of the year. He learns his slider, and uses it as both a complementary weapon and an out pitch. He’s keeping guys off balance, then add in his strong GB tendencies and improved command the guy is legit.

Nova strikes me as a guy that has an above average baseball IQ, he’s also shown steady improvement every start, which is definitely encouraging.

  • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

    Em Vee Pee

  • Tyrion Lannister

If it was AJ we’d be down 6-5 right now. Nova has certainly earned that #2 spot and for a a bargain price at that.

    • BK2ATL

If this were AJ, we’d have spotted him 5 runs and watched him not be able to get out of the 5th inning.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    MVP?

    MVP.

  • Greg

    Grandy’s on fire

  • MannyGeee

damn I really wish we had IPK and AJax back….

    • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

      ICWUDT

      • JobaWockeeZ

Has someone recently said that? I mean the IPK and AJax mocking comments have been around forever.

  • BK2ATL

He’s hot again. Watch out. Grandy’s decided to go and win that MVP trophy, one way or another. LOL!!!

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

With Tex struggling and the shift on, this would be a great time to send Granderson

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Grandy’s last three games: 8-for-10, 3 2B, 2 HR,4 BB, 1 K.

    • MannyGeee

but is he a 20 game winner… well then.

  • flamingo

Wait, did Tex get a hit?

    • MannyGeee

wait… did someone not catcha pop-up or something???

      does not compute. input error

  • Melky

    Stat Padding in 5…4…3…2…

  • MannyGeee

LOL, this game is so in the bag that the My9 guys are critiquing the base-coaching technique.

not a bad place to be

  • Karl Krawfid

    Swinging with all arms.

  • Eirias

What’s the record for the most RBI in a ten game span?

  • Urban

In a stunning move, Maddon walks Cano to force in a run to pitch to Swisher.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Cano slam

  • Chen Meng Wang

Robbie Cano, about to do some serious stat padding right here :)

  • Tom

At least they can IBB Cano again

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

As a pitcher, I don’t think there’s any situation that I’d less rather be in than facing Cano with the bases loaded.

    • MannyGeee

facing A Rod down 10 runs comes to mind.

    • TomH

Although I agree with you, still, there’s always a chance to beat the Yanks, even Cano, if your guy can throw a good changeup.

      • AaronGuielWithASmile

That goes for every batter in baseball, not just the Yankees. Nobody can hit a great changeup.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

If they can hit it, it isn’t great.

  • Montero’s Mojo

Hahaha. Bases loaded AGAIN! WTH is up with this game. They HAVE TO break it open now.

  • Urban

That was a totally undiscipined AB by Cano. He swung at three balls.

    • pat

      You spelled unsurprising wrong.

    • Greg

First pitch he saw was a called strike.

    • Jetrer

2 anyways, the first strike was called

    • TomH

It’s an announcer’s cliche to say “I predict Robbie Cano will win a batting title some day.” Not likely with that tendency of his to hack.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Except he always had a very good k rate…

  • Foghorn Leghorn

    • Montero’s Mojo

      LOB fail in full effect

  • Karl Krawfid

No reason to pitch to Cano.

  • BK2ATL

    Shit!!!!!!

Cano swinging at anything, Swisher looking like the past Chicago version….

    C’mon fellas, let’s go.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Wow, If we didn’t have that big inning earlier I might be upset by this. But as we’re already up 5-0 with one of the best BP’s in baseball, and Ivan pitching like a beast I really can’t be angry about this game.

  • Montero’s Mojo

This game is such F***ING BULLSH**! I’ve never witnessed this much LOB failure before in my life. This game sucks. I honestly don’t care if they’re winning. This sucks. It does. It really does. Not even a fly ball or a dribbler. ARGH! I have every right to be upset, this game should’ve blown up hours ago.

    • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

You are a fountain of misplaced rage.

Frustrating? Absolutely. Fucking bullshit? Failure? Not so much.

    • Sweet Dick Willie

      I honestly don’t care if they’re winning.

      • Sweet Dick Willie

        Didn’t mean to post that.

See Rule 1.02 The objective of each team is to win by scoring more runs than the opponent.

  • Tyrion Lannister

Push those two runs home, Os!

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Francona bringing in Papelbum for a 5 out save, can’t wait to see this backfire.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

      Bonita Papelbum??

when i read that Papelbon said that Mo inspires him I threw up in my mouth a bit.

“Mariano inspires me to not be such an asshole!”

    • MannyGeee

god i hate Papelbone with every fiber of my being.

      • Foghorn Leghorn

that entire team is truckload of goofy looking douchebags

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

I know that their pitching staff is a mess, but the Sox are still our biggest threat IMO.

    • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

      I no longer fear them.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Tex can hit as many popups as he wants as long as he keeps making plays like that.

    Hell, it’s not my money.

  • SevenAces

Lol, is Boston trying their hardest to make their game interesting?

  • Chen Meng Wang

Davis just missed that pitch off of Papsmear.

    • Chen Meng Wang

      And that Kpitch was HIGH

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Standing ovation.

  • Tom

Robertson up with a 5 run lead and 2 out in the inning?

Does anyone else find that completely nuts?

    • Jetrer

Joe showing his faith in Logan??

      • MannyGeee

mop up duty in a 5 run game =/= faith

        • Jetrer

I meant if Robertson was warming up, it showed Joe had no faith in Logan.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

      Vote AaronGuielWithASmile for President

If elected, I promise that the Aflac commercial with the rapping animals and the JLO commercial for Fiat will never air again.

Also, I’ll install a “you must be this tall to play” sign at Fenway park.

Thank you, and God Bless America

      • AaronGuielWithASmile

        Reply fail.

But goddamn do I hate those commercials.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Damn you Michael Kay you jinxed Nova!

  • Melky

    What bullshit. Let him finish.

    • Greg

He was at 103 pitches. He was great.

  • BK2ATL

    Standing O for our SuperNova!!!!!

    Great job, kid!!!

So this is what a #2 starter is supposed to look like.

  • MannyGeee

wow. generous strike call for Papselbum.

    • Chen Meng Wang

      I thought so too..

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

To be honest, I woulda gave Valdes a shot here.

  • Tyrion Lannister

They just showed that strike 3 to Davis on Baseball Tonight. I guess MLB has decided the Sox need to make the playoffs.

    • Chen Meng Wang

that ball 2 to Andino was in the same place and called a ball.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Bases Loaded for the 0’s.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Papelbum gives up a hit and is bailed out by Matt Wieters’s slowness and Fenway’s little league sized LF.

  • Greg

Did Maddon not get the memo that Logan is better against righties?

    • Urban

      Yeah, Maddon outmanaged himself.

Logan can get righties out. It’s lefties he can’t get out!

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Ok, 5-0 lead that can be increased…Have Betances/Brackman pitch the ninth please

    /extremewishfulthinking’d

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    C’mon Papelblown, ball four!

  • Chen Meng Wang

Start the Oriole merry’go’round in boston.

  • Tyrion Lannister

PAPELBUM BLOWS THE SAVE!!!!!!!!! 6-5 OS!!!!!!!

    • Tyrion Lannister

      CORRECTION- 7-5 OS! PAPELBUM!

  • MannyGeee

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHAHA BLOWN SAVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mbonzo

    ANDINO!

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    Or a THREE RUN DOUBLE!!!
    Hahahahahaha Take that Papelbitch!

  • Chen Meng Wang

BASES CLEARING DOUBLE ANDINO!!!! PAPSMEAR BLOWS IT!!!!!!

  • Cy Pettitte

LOL Paps and Bard blow it

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    LOL Papelbum!!

  • Urban

Oriloes hit bases-clearing triple against Papelbum.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

    in play (runs)….at Fenway

    • Zanath

One of the highlights of the night. Now they just need to hold on.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Haha, Papelbon.

  • Rey22

Oh my god, I tuned in to the Orioles just in time to see Andino hit a double. Fucking beautiful!

  • Greg

    ANDINO!

  • Jetrer

    lmfao Paplebum

  • Foghorn Leghorn

    wooot!! wooot!

  • SevenAces

    lol Papelbon.

  • MannyGeee

all those runs charged to Bard, he just gave a death gare out to the mound.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

2 to napoleon dynamite and 1 to sir papeldoutche

    • MannyGeee

      glare’

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

    Mo+D-Rob>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Papelbitch+Bahhhhhd

    /CaptainObvious’d

  • Rey22

The Fenway crowd sounds like it just witnessed a murder. Not a sound.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Nothing new. They play funeral music after every loss.

      • Foghorn Leghorn

        Sweet Caroline….

        Duh Duh Duh!!

  • Foghorn Leghorn

that game is far from over…two more inning of relief for the O’s…that’s like a lifetime!

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

If the O’s can get through the 8th, I think Jim Johnson can get 3 outs before allowing 2 runs.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeah, just get the ball to Johnson and they’ll be fine.

  • Tom

Quick Girardi, get Laffey up and have Proctor ready…. it’s not too late to get TB caught up in the loss column.

  • James A

    My MVP ballot
    1) Granderson
    2) Bautista
    3) Andino
    4) Verlander
    5) Ellsbury

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

      6)Buck Showalter

      • MannyGeee

        7) Papelbon

        • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

          8)Bard

          • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

            Haha beat me to it

        • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

          8)Bard

          • Hall and Nokes

            9) LOL

    • JobaWockeeZ

I really can’t see how it can’t be Joey bats. He still has a fucking .444 OBP and 40 HR. That’s insane.

      • AaronGuielWithASmile

It should be Bautista, but he’s got about a snowball’s chance in hell at actually winning.

I have a feeling that Verlander is gonna pull the upset.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    OTM has officially gone apeshit.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Over the Monster? The Red Sox blog?

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

        yep.

    • MannyGeee

haha… the line for bridgejumping must be miles long huh…

    • Montero’s Mojo

What’s “OTM”? I’m shit with the acronyms here.

    • Chen Meng Wang

Are they committing mass ritualistic suicide?

    • Chen Meng Wang

Haha, I went over there to see what you are talking about and all of a sudden there was a bunch of “FUCKS” and “FUCK THIS TEAM” and “FIRE THEO’s” Kind of made my night.

  • James A

I’m thinking the Yankee rotation for the final series in Tampa should be Laffey, Brackman, and Betances. I’d also see if Greg Golson can translate that OF arm into success on the mound

  • Tyrion Lannister

Close it out, Strop. Don’t throw inside to Scuatro.

  • BK2ATL

This might be the best baseball night of the season so far.

Nova pitching impressive ball vs. Tampa, and HoF closers Paplepuke and Bard blow another game for the Sux.

    I love it!!!

  • Tom

These innings would go quicker if the Rays just intentionally walk the bases loaded and then strike out the side.

    • MannyGeee

12 intentional Balls, they should be able to get the side in 5 pitches after that if history serves as any indication.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

the sox bullpen is getting used like a cheap hooker…the starters are averaging less than 5 per start

    • Tom

What are you talking about these guys are gamers and have rubber arms

      /Torre’d
      /Proctor’d

    • Pat D

They should feel used. Better to be a call girl than a hooker.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

I’m starting to think that this Jeter guy has some skills.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

there was never anything wrong with his swing…he just needed to drop that hag he was dating

    • Chen Meng Wang

He might be a pretty good stop gap for us at SS for us until we sign Tulo

      /Gives YankeeFan a bad name

  • Foghorn Leghorn

    take that Cap Anson!

  • Urban

Cap Anson. Brand name to pass. Then again, up in this area, all the names are brand names.

    • Hall and Nokes

Racist, and some of his hits were actually walks. Good on you Derek.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Michael Kay’s “Cap Anson singlehandedly caused baseball to be segregated” story might have been the most ignorant thing he’s ever said.

      Which is really quite impressive.

  • Tom

Is there any reason to throw Granderson a strike here?

    • Urban

No, because they need to load the bases again with two outs.

  • Mariano’s Pimp Hand

Jeter will have to hit ~.370 for the rest of the way to get to .300

  • Foghorn Leghorn

    c’mon pedro strop!

  • mbonzo

NESN commentators sound like they’re at a funeral.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

The funeral of the 2011 Red Sox.

  • Greg

one inning to go for the O’s

  • Foghorn Leghorn

will papelton come back out for the 9th? or is it Michael Bowden time?

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Dubrount. I was kinda hoping they’d go with my favorite Red Sox pitcher ever, Junichi Tazawa.

      • Zanath

        Ask and you shall receive.

      • Sarah

        And now they are!

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

I really wanna see that piece on Phil Hughes after the game. Hopefully MLB Extra Innings will stick with My 9 for the news.

    • Urban

      They just played it.

The key move Phil Hughes made to get his season back on track was drinking the blood of baby kittens before each start.

      Who knew…

  • MannyGeee

    fcking Cano is just awesome

  • Bartolo’s Colon

    that was absurd

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Best Second baseman in baseball? Best Second baseman in baseball.

  • SevenAces

    Smoooooooooothhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • flamingo

    YESSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Foghorn Leghorn

    damn..cano is the shizzit

  • Karl Krawfid

    wow what a dp!

  • MannyGeee

    HA!

    wow, that was cool

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Holy crap!

    THEEEEEEEEEEEEE Yankees win!

  • mbonzo

Thats how you play defense O’s. Don’t pull this shit against the Red Sox tomorrow.

  • Jetrer

    flashing the D ftw!!!!

  • Urban

Nice D there by the Yankee middle infielders for all three outs this inning.

  • SevenAces

The Captain and Cano Double Play Show!

  • Greg

    Shutout

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    The Magic# is the captain!

    • Chen Meng Wang

So, if we win Game 1 tomorrow, we start Brackman in game 2 along with a AAA line up and root for Baltimore lol.

      • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

I’d actually be all for that with no worries, haha.

  • http://highfirstpitch.wordpress.com/ Stratman9652

    Best magic number picture ever.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

So, another Red Sox prospect pitcher is on the hill, Junichi Tazawa. What were the expectations on this guy??

    • Jetrer

      aren’t they all future aces?

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat
      • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Either that game or the July 1st game in ’04 against the Red Sox with Jeter flying into the stands and Flash’s walkoff hit were probably the two greatest regular season games I’ve ever seen.

    • Chen Meng Wang

He’s their 9th Ace, they’re just so deep in their rotation.

    • Urban

The media fapped like mad over the pick up of Tazawa by the boy genius Theo.

    • Greg

He gave up the homer to ARod that you see in those cable commercials.

    • Foghorn Leghorn

of course he was a cy young candidate…yanks beat him like a cheap hooker back in 2009..then tore up his elbow and has retunred from TJS

  • Foghorn Leghorn

sox on their 7th pitcher…that’s nuts

  • Leo

C’mon O’s. Please be a good spoiler and don’t screw this up.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Fucking 0’s man.

    FUCK THEM

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

That looked more like Ellsbury just trying to get catcher interference called.

  • SevenAces

Whose up for the Red Sox and Fighting Showalters to play 20 innings?

    • Sarah

Tomorrow. Possibly ending at 2 am.

  • Chen Meng Wang

The O’s just can’t make this shit easy huh? I want the Magic number for the Division to be Babe Ruth before I settle in.

    Hooray DP!!

  • Jetrer

    gritty double play, lmao

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

come on Os. one more out!!

  • Karl Krawfid

    NM i love you o’s

  • Greg

    Pedroia twin killing.

  • Urban

Nice laser shot for a double play.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

gameday is screwed up…what’s going on…did the laser show hit into a dp?

    • Jetrer

yep, and Gonzales grounded out to first

    • Zanath

Correct. And now the game is over, Gonzalez grounded out.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

    ORIOLES!!!

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Sox lose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Urban

    And the O’s win.

  • Greg

    ITS OVER

  • Sarah

    O’s FTW!

  • Hall and Nokes

    game ovah

  • Foghorn Leghorn

can’t wait to hear Massaroti tomorrow…I think his heart stopped at least 7 times today!

  • BK2ATL

    And Boston chokes…again. Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BK2ATL

Oh wait…..season’s on the line….and you roll out….Erik Fucking Bedard????

    Bwhahahahahaha….Boy genius my ass

  • Chen Meng Wang

So, Let’s recap real quick…Our Magic number for the playoffs is 2, and the Division is 3? And we’re in the same Division as the team that won the World Series back in January, right?

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat
      • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

The more and more I see this the more and more I laugh.

        • Chen Meng Wang

          +1

        • BK2ATL

          +2

I keep reading it and loving the sincerity with which he wrote it. Someone needs to post this article over on one of their blogs or even ESPN somewhere. This needs to get traction like Charlie Sheen’s roast on Twitter. Such a trainwreck.

          • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

That actually sounds like a good idea. At the end of the season I can criticize it on my blog, Bleeding Yankee Blue.

            • Chen Meng Wang

Just read some of your blog, well done dude.

              • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

                Thanks bud.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Haha, I actually am the most recent comment on that article.

        • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Ha, I actually “liked” that comment when I saw it at the time.

    • Pat D

Yep, and the HFA number is down to 5, too.

      • Chen Meng Wang

Not really a big deal for me…I feel(I have no empirical data to back this up) that HFA in baseball is very overrated(in intra-league games anyway)

        • Pat D

I think the Yankees suck something awful in Comerica, so…it’d be nice.

          • Chen Meng Wang

I expect us to win 5 more games over the course of the season so we’re good.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Does anyone think that the Angels have a real chance at winning the Wild Card?

With Boston’s awful rotation and Tampa having to play us 6 more times, I can see a potential opening there.

    • Chen Meng Wang

Not really, and I wouldn’t want them to anyway…their pitching is slightly scary to me. I wouldn’t want to have to face Weaver/Haren/Santana in a best of 5 or 7. I’d rather the Rays be the Wild Card and play the Rangers.

  • Bartolo’s Colon

so win tomorrow in game one of the dh, then rest EVERYONE until friday night

    • Karl Krawfid

      win the CC game imo.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

The Red Sox actually have the most RS of any team in September.

    • tom

It wasn’t long ago the Yanks had a slim lead over them in runs scored; now they’re about 25 runs ahead. Amazingly (given pre-season prediction, and even perception among some now) it’s the pitching that’s accounted for the Yankees winning out.

    • Sandman42

They needed 18 runs to win the Wakefield game and to win last night. I think they allowed something like 9 or 10 in each game though. I Agree get CC his 20th win and tank the rest.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Haha they just showed the highlight of Nova throwing at Bautista the going “What are you gonna do?!” “Come get me, what are you gonna do?”

    • BK2ATL

      You saw it too. Hahaha!!!

      • Chen Meng Wang

Man I remember watching that game screaming at Bautista “Pussy put the bat down and do something”

        • BK2ATL

I love having a pitcher on our squad with a nasty streak. Been a long time since we had one of those around here, esp. one who could back it up on the field.

  • BK2ATL

Holy shit, MLB Tonight Live on MLB Network showed Ivan Nova’s 1st MLB start last year, where he fired a fastball up and in on Bautista. As Bautista is chirping and thinking about headed out to the mound, Nova has his arms out and saying very clearly “Whatcha gonna do??? Whatcha wanna do???” Very clearly. Of course, Girardi comes to Bautista’s rescue.

The kid really has a set of nuts on him, and is backing it up. AJ’s never down anything like that. He just takes the abuse.

    Nova for #2. RIGHT NOW!!!
