Martin leaves game after taking foul tip to right hand

Update (11:28pm): It’s being called a bruised right thumb right now, and Martin is being taken for x-rays. Cross your fingers.

Original Post (9:57pm): Russell Martin left tonight’s game after taking a foul ball to his right (bare) hand. They bandaged him up, but Martin was unable to throw the ball back to the pitcher during the before-inning warm-ups, so he was lifted. Jorge Posada took over behind the plate, his first catching action of the season. We’ll update the post with more as it comes.

Romine actually makes sense. He needs to be added to the 40 man roster after the season anyway. Only see it happening though if they decide both Martin and Cervelli will be out a while.

As for tomorrow, I’m guessing Montero gets his first start behind the plate.

I’m thinking it will be Montero behind the plate for a bit. The only reason I have to think it wouldn’t be is that the team may be hesitant to do anything to mess with what Montero has going on lately. Adding another catcher to the 40 man doesn’t really make sense. Although they have two “catchers” who can’t catch on the team right now.

Montero and Posada will have to hold down the fort, and hope Cervelli’s able to come back soon enough.

I get the fanboy desire to see Romine here as well, but its honestly not necessary.
