Still no A-Rod in Yanks lineup

By

Alex Rodriguez is not in tonight’s lineup against the Blue Jays, presumably because his sprained left thumb is still bothering him. Either that, or Joe Girardi is putting way too much stock into Alex being 1-for-15 against tonight’s starter, Dustin McGowan. McGowan’s been on the shelf for the last three years with shoulder trouble, the 1-for-15 is irrelevant.

Anyway, Girardi said earlier in the week that the plan was the give Alex a little extra time of in Seattle with the off day, but that he would do regular fielding drills and some sort of swinging to see how the thumb feels. Apparently it doesn’t feel good enough yet. It’s been six days since A-Rod was supposed to be out “three or four days.” Robinson Cano, meanwhile, is in the lineup after getting hit by that pitch on Wednesday night.

i hope its just my imagination…but i hope a-rod isnt starting to break down already. it seems like he has been hurt more then not, the last 2 or 3 years. get healthy alex we need your bat.

He’s been on the DL every year since signging that ten year contract. He has not played a full season since 2007. I think he can still be a .370 wOBA player the next two years but 2014-2017 is going to suck.

I would guess it’s a little bit of both–extra rest and McGowan. Agree that this doesn’t bode well for Alex’s end-of-season durability over the long haul.

And Jorge is the DH vs a lefty? For what purpose with Jones and Jesus on the bench?

  4. Jorge says:

Sit him until October for all I care.

    • MikeD says:

You want to sit Montero? He did look horrible against Santana and Vargas, striking out three times in each game. Pound him inside, get him to try to pull junk away. I can only imagine the lessons Verlander, Lester, Beckett, Halladay, Lee, etc. will give him, depending how far the Yankees make it.

Really, I’m in favor of Montero and I see his skill, but he’s a raw rookie who is a .280 hitter in two seasons in AAA.

      He’s not the second coming.

man, it can’t be time to send our Centaur to the glue factory already

  6. Frank says:

What happened to Cecil? He was scheduled for tonight.

  7. Reggie C. says:

Weird. Arod is the new Eric Chavez.

Those two better switch luck soon. We need arod to be healthy and confident with his swing for playoffs.

  8. Tyrion Lannister says:

Disappointing not to see him in there but why the rush? If he needs a few more days he would still have almost 2 weeks to get his swing back.

    • forensic says:

There are 12 days left (before tonight game) in the season and if you subtract ‘a few more days’ from that, how do you still get almost 2 weeks left?

  9. MikeD says:

A-Rod basically said what’s most important is getting his timing down, so when he returns he wants to be able to play in back-to-back games. Based on that, they decided to pull him today and play him the next two games.

  10. forensic says:

Guess it’s just a good thing Cano didn’t jam his toe…
