- The final series of the regular season meant nothing to the Yankees but everything to the Rays. New York dropped the first game thanks to a patchwork pitching staff, then were done in by a late Matt Joyce homer in the second game. Tampa won the final game of the season in dramatic fashion as the Red Sox lost to Baltimore in equally dramatic fashion, completing Boston’s collapse and sending the Rays to the playoffs as the wildcard team.
- The Yankees learned they would be playing the Tigers in the ALDS on the final game of the season. Game One was suspended due to rain in the middle of the second inning, but the Yankees won the game the next day thanks to Ivan Nova and Robinson Cano. A late rally fell short in Game Two, as the Tigers knotted the series up at one.
- Injury News: X-rays were negative after Jesus Montero took a ball to his bare hand behind the plate. Alex Rodriguez will not be limited in the playoffs by a balky right knee.
- The Yankees made a lineup change before the playoffs, installing Cano as the number three hitter. Brian Cashman confirmed that CC Sabathia will start Game Three of the ALDS tonight after the rain-shortened start on Friday. Team president Randy Levine said he wants Cashman back after the season.
- The Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees will play their 2012 home games in six different locations after the Mets blocked them from playing in Newark.
- Mason ,Williams ranked first on Baseball America’s list of the top 20 Short Season NY-Penn League prospects. He was one of five Yankees farmhands on the list. Gary Sanchez ranked 14th in the Low-A South Atlantic League.
- Brandon Laird and Austin Krum took home minor league Gold Gloves. The Yankees will pick 30th overall in the 2012 draft.
