NLDS Game Thread: Diamondbacks @ Brewers
ByWithout a doubt, this is the non-Yankees playoff series I’m most excited to watch. Yovani Gallardo gets the ball against former Yankee Ian Kennedy at 2:07pm ET on TBS. Talk about the game here if you like. Enjoy.

Go IPK
Give ‘em hell, Ian.
For me, I’m most excited to watch Rays/Rangers, but this is right there. I hope IPK pitches a CG SHO
IPK CGSHO you heard it here first!
I didn’t really know who to root for in this series, and then I remembered the Brewers have K-Rod on their team now. Fuck K-Rod.
Go Diamondbacks.
Fuck the Diamondbacks. Never forget what happened in game 7 of 2001.
When did Victor Rojas become a playoff broadcaster?
Probably because Ernie Johnson had to attend to his kid so they needed an extra announcer.
Waving him home with 0 outs and the middle of your lineup coming to the plate? Who’s their 3rd base coach, Robbie Thompson?
When has Thomson done that? And there was 1 out.
Jerry Hairston starts at 3B for the Brewers? Oh NL baseball. You’re so adorable.
Willie Bloomquist is the leadoff hitter for an NL playoff team. Enough said.
What, why? His .317 career AB is pretty good.
double checks b-ref numbers
Oh shit, that’s his career obp.
Stephen Drew is on the DL hence Willie.
McGehee has completely cratered this year, and they’ve been reluctant to play any of their minor leaguers, for some reason.
Great at bat by Weeks. On the radio, they are making it sound like Ian got squeezed a bit in that at bat. True or false?
According to the TBS pitch track thing he only threw 1 strike. The first 2 to make the count 0-2 appeared to be outside.
I know Ian’s success has come in the weak NL West, but it’s hard not to look at the career arcs of IPK, Phil, and Joba (to this point) and see it as an indictment of the Yanks development of young pitchers at the higher levels.
Hope lessons will be learned for the development of the Killer Bs. (Lessons being, don’t rush and then give up to soon after initial struggles(Joba) and don’t push the arms way past where they have gone before (Phil)).
What about Ivan Nova and David Robertson? The Big 3 are a pretty SSS. Plus, IPK was used to get back a great player.
Nova in the minors was always someone whose performance never matched his stuff — I remember his fastball/curve/change all being touted after 2008, when he was ordinary/bad: 148 IP, 168 hits, 46 BB, 109 K. ERA of 4.36 (only 6 HR, though)
Fair point on the big 3 being a SSS. And the Yanks certainly did a better job with Nova than they did with IPK (though maybe the temptation to rush him/overuse him early on was less since he was not viewed as the same type of prospect that hughes/joba/IPK were).
I think it would be fair to say, though, that developing a reliever (D-Rob) is very different and presents fewer potential pitfalls.
And I am not saying that the trade involving IPK was bad. It was one of the best trades in recent baseball memory in terms of adding value to all involved. My point was that, of the big 3, the one who has flourished at the highest level and seems to have the brightest future is the one completing major league finishing school in another organization.
It’s got to be easier to complete finishing school in Arizona then under the Bright Lights in the Big City.
If the Yanks have an Epic fail with the next crop, the SSS will certainly get bigger, and I’ll be worried.
Agreed that the lights are brighter in NYC, but the Yanks also made multiple mistakes with both Phil and Joba that certainly didn’t make things easier.
I think we are in agreement that we hope the Yanks handle things better the next time around.
Granderson is not a great player , he´s a good player having a better than average season.
I’d say good player having a great season. If he has 2 or 3 more of these seasons, will he elevate to great player?
Gotta say, not a fan of Kennedy’s ginger beard.
While I agree that it’s not a good look, I’m not a fan of creeping British-isms like “ginger” working their way into our lexicon.
Also, South Park.
Ew.
Mary Anne >>>>>>>>>> Ginger
Sherman on twitter:
“I am shocked, but in last 36 hrs every exec talk to says believe #Redsox will give permssion and Theo will go to #Cubs to be GM”
so who exactly are the Sox planning on getting to replace their manager and GM?
Say what you will about Epstein, but if he could bring a World Series to Chicago, after bringing one to Boston . . . that would be legendary.
that would be amazing. could be possible, grab some big bats this offseason and 2 of the big FA pitchers after 2012 to go with Garza. they have the money to do it.
You heard it here first. Theo and Tito francona both will be in Chicago
Do you have a source, or is this pulled straight from your rectum?
Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of idle speculation and Irresponsible Rumormongering(TM)
You heard it here first. Theo and Tito francona both will be in Chicago.
Andrew Friedman and Joe Maddon.
Can I watch the postseason games on mlb.tv premium?
It’s fuckin pouring in NYC right now.
think they’ll start it and play another 1.5 innings so they can burn Fister and Nova too?
why not? we need those ratings!!
TBS’d
Hughes vs Kennedy, game 1 of the World Series after CC tears a hammy.
Good one.
I have no idea what the weather will exactly be like during the Yankee game, but according to weather.com there’s a 10% of precipitation from 8 PM through 9 PM, but then a 40% chance at 10 and 11 PM.
Solution: normal start time!
We should be so lucky.
God, Selig is such a sack of shit.
But, but, the what about the TV ratings!
/TBS’d
idk how anyone is rooting for d backs. gotta go with brewers. theyre the only team in NL with realistic chance to knock off phillies. not saying that to get ahead of myself with yankees in WS but if yankees cant win i def dont want phillies to either
Can someone please tell me when the park will open for Sunday’s game (for batting practice, etc.)?
Terrible strategy there by Kurt Gibson and IPK. With 2 outs and a runner on 3rd, walk the professional hitter and pitch to the pitcher.
Gallardo’s actually a pretty good hitter.
Pretty good hitter… for a pitcher.
He hit .221 with a .578 OPS. Career: .218avg .649OPS
Early in the game maybe you pitch to Lucroy in hopes you have the pitcher leading off next inning, but down already 1 run and just 9 outs left on offense you have to evrything you can to cut that run off.
Ugh i fucking hate mlb.tv’s blackout bullshit. I live in Canada and have the package and they are blacking out the post season games. Last year I was able to watch the post season fine but not this year. Fuck you MLB.
Anyone know of any working international proxy servers?
Should of kept IPK. He’s an ace. Arizona’s getting swept.
There’s this Granderson guy we got back from that trade. I heard he’s pretty good.
1. why are they pitching to Prince in that spot?
2. why is IPK pitching to Prince in that spot?
Ian Kennedy just got taught a lesson in baseball.
Since Milwaukee may be the only NL team that can take out the Phillies, I’m ok with this.
Now how big is that homer? Fallacy maybe but…
