Noesi, Sanchez, Pena continue strong winter ball showings

By

The Yankees have re-signed Josh Romanski, though they lost Steve Garrison to the Mariners. Not the end of the world. Apparently if a minor leaguer is released before becoming a six-year free agent, they go year-to-year after that. A team can’t sign someone and get his extra years of control, if you know what I mean. That’s why Romanski became a free agent even though he was just drafted (by the Brewers) in 2008.

Based on his Twitter feed, Zach Varce is playing winter ball in Colombia this year. If I knew where to find those stats, I’d pass them along.

He’s listed under the Tigres of Cartegena. You can find stats under Boxscores or ESTADISTICAS DE JUGADORES.

FYI – The Colombian baseball season just started this past weekend. So not sure if this kid has pitched yet. I was supposed to go to a Caimanes of Barranquilla vs. Leones of Monteria game in Barranquilla on Saturday, but it was rained out.

      Hope this helps.

    …?????…

  3. Ethan says:

I really want to see Pat Venditt in MLB. I haven’t had a chance to see him pitch but definitely would be interesting!

  4. Kosmo says:

Whitley looks like he might turn out to be a real find.

  5. Platano Man says:

Call me crazy, but I saw Hector Noesi playing in the Dominican Winter League with the Licey Tigers not long ago. Did he went to Venezuela or what. I also checked and he is listed in their roster in Licey’s webpage.

  6. CMP says:

I wouldn’t exactly call Gary Sanchez 5 singles in 17 plate appearances with 7 Ks and no extra base hits a “strong showing.”

  7. Brian S. says:

I’m sad to see Noesi have such a large innings drop. I hope they let him start in AAA and build up to around 160 innings next season.

  8. CANO FAN #1 says:

    Noesi is piching tonight. Right now 5 IP. 1 R. 5 H

  9. Jaremy says:

JoVa continues to take. Any chance we see him in the majors… Ever?

    • Monteroisdinero says:

Ignoring the defense for a second, his bat alone would probably be as productive as Thames and Jones. We could do alot worse and he is a decent corner infielder.

Pena? Sanchez? How can you say they are doing well when Chato Vazquez is dominating the whole Caribbean, like every year. The poor guy is hitting .350, leading the whole Caribbean with 15hr and 46rbi, and a 1.075ops in 37 games. He hit another bomb tonight! He has hit in 27 of his last 29 games. In his last 11 he has hit .410, 6hr, 16rbi and over .850slg%. This guy gets no respect!! He won the bench spot last year out of ST and was treated terrible. Trade him, or give him his shot!!! Keep slugging Chato!!!

Here is Zach wearing the Gray shirt and Gray hat….

They have him staying in nice high rise overlooking the water – nice improvement over the Staten Island quarters…

  13. Howard Cosell says:

Also next to him is Deangelo Mack – they spelled his name wrong as Mark Deangelo.

Just go to Tigres…..they have Batting & Pitching Stats. They don’t have last night’s game though. Zach Varce pitched better this time – 5 innings, 2 runs, 5 hits, 2K’s and 1 intentional walk. Nothing hit hard and the control was better. Apparently, the pitching mounds are atrocious and it is taking the American pitchers time to adjust to the mounds. The infields are pure sand – so running in them is hard too.
