Cashman: Yankees only had “early conversations” with Buehrle

By

The Miami Marlins continued ruining baseball today by signing free agent lefty Mark Buehrle to a four-year contract worth $58M. Brian Cashman told reporters (including Mark Feinsand and Joel Sherman) that he had nothing more than “early conversations” with Buehrle’s camp, and they didn’t want to go more than two years on the veteran southpaw. I have to say I can’t blame them, the guy’s already teetering on the edge stuff-wise and has allowed an average of 4.22 runs per nine innings over the last three years in a division with some wimpy offenses. Nothing about that screams four years.

I wonder which team will end up with Buehrle at the end of that contract. I’m bracing myself for another Marlin WS victory, followed by a mega-fire sale.

The real shame is we’re not going to be seeing much of Buehrle next year

He’ll gladly deal with that hideous uniform for two years until he’s traded to a contender as a salary dump after Miami has their fire sale. He’s already got a ring and perfecto, now he’s getting paid for them, again.

Oswalt or Jackson at 2/30MM are looking mighty good right now, no doubt that’s an overpay too but it’s better than committing ridiculous years and gives the AAA guys to grow properly.

There is no way Jackson only gets 2 years.

      • Mickey S says:

Your right but that lack of even his name being mentioned, and the fact hes been traded five or six times in his short career makes one think he either suffers from a wretched case of halitosis or he’s a bad team mate. In reality once the big names are off the board, I’m sure we’ll hear his name but that’s why I mentioned the over pay at 15MM per.

If Buehlre is getting 4, no way in hell Jackson doesn’t. IMO Oswalt is looking at 3 now after that deal….

What a strange winter it’s turning into.

Just thinking out loud here, but I wonder if the Marlins would be interested in A-Rod? He was raised in S. Florida, right?
It would free up a lot of money….

I agree BUehrle for 4yrs is just silly! Kuroda will probably sign a 3yr deal someplace which i also think is to long I would love kuroda on a 2yr deal

  6. RollingWave says:

Well, given that he’s going to one of the most HR prventing park in the whole MLB, it should play out well enough for him there.

  7. Rod says:

Another case of stats betterment as a result of an al to nl move. If javy could be a stud so can mark.
