Report: Reyes headed to the Marlins
ByVia Ken Rosenthal, the Marlins and Jose Reyes have agreed to a six-year contract worth $106MM. The deal does not include a no-trade clause, and Jon Heyman says the plan is to move Hanley Ramirez to third base. I’d like to see them try him in center field, but that’s just me. To make matters worse for the Mets, they’re only going to get Florida’s third round draft pick as compensation (in addition to the supplemental first rounder). Ouch.
The Yankees were never serious suitors for Reyes, especially not that price. The first domino of the Winter Meetings has fallen though, and the next four days are sure to be fun.

Well…’only’, plus a sandwich pick, which means ‘only’ isn’t accurate.
That’s irrelevant. Point is they ‘only’ got a third rounder instead of a first rounder.
So where would Hanley play? Does it depend on if they sign pujols/fielder?
Well Im glad to see this offseason that the Yankees are not the only team not to spend money wisely
Marlins really are throwing money around. Good for Reyes getting paid and Reyes and Ramirez on the same team should be pretty exciting to watch.
Oof. Mets fans invested a lot of time and emotion on Reyes. It is going to royally suck seeing him as a temporary mercenary on the Marlins (like they’re going to ever keep a team together, new stadium or not. We’ve seen this story before and know how it ends.) and within the division.
I’d much rather give Reyes 6/$106mm than Jason Werth 7/$128mm.
Werth only got $84mm. His beard got the rest.
I think this is a good deal for the Marlins. I would take his deal over Crawfords, Worths or Jeters. Yet another reason it sucks to be a mets fan. This has to be like the Yankees loosing Jeter in his prime to the Orioles.
If the Nats get frisky, this will be a very interesting NL East.
Early, but hows everyone see the NL East play out?
Well, still its clearly the Phils division. Everyone else is playing for a wild card. Unless a couple of the Phils pitchers, get hurt.
WFAN is a must listen tomorrow
“I told everyone Reyes was a gawner, okay. Dis is bad publicity for da Mets, and da Wilpons look like fools now, okay?”
oh yea Francesa will make sure to take a victory lap tomorrow. He will also mention how the Met radio ratings will decrease and affect the station/show.
I’m sure you’ll hear a lot of bitching by fans on the Giants game as well as the Reyes deal.
The Mets are a joke, they make the Knicks look smart. Good for Reyes and great for Yankee fans that he’s not going to Boston. I think the Mets will finish last next year, they stink.
Can’t emphasize this enough. Forget a right fielder, they should have made a huge play for Reyes and left Reddick out there. If I’m making bets on production, I’m definitely going to take Reddick over Lowrie/Scutaro.
The Sox had a chance to get a great shortstop, but they swung and missed.
Of course hindsight is 20/20, but they should have traded Reyes at the deadline or sooner last year, no?
The stands are going to be really empty next year in Citi Field! Looks like David Wright is left holding the bag on this one.
Hello, former Mets fan here, i’m now a Yankee fan, just sayin
What took you so long.
The bandwagon is full. Sorry.
Stubborness is an unfortunate family trait, that and stupid baseball franchises, i should’ve listened to mom
Boomer and Carton are a must listen to in the morning, can’t wait to hear the ranting and sobbing thats going to happen from 6-10
Now that the Mets are out a SS, tejada is a Rey ordonez type no bat whatsoever. How about edurado Nunez for Matt Harvey? Maybe a filler here or there but I would like this a lot Harvey is a solid young SP. Nunez will not replace Jeter. Lets get as much sp’s
