Report: Yankees have been talking to Manny Corpas’ agent

By

Via George King, the Yankees have been speaking with Tom O’Connell, the agent for free agent right-handed reliever Manny Corpas. I wrote about him as a potential minor league target last month.

Corpas, 29, hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since late 2010 due to Tommy John surgery. He spent the first five years of his career working the late innings for the Rockies, relying on ground balls (49.4%) and limiting walks (2.52 BB/9) rather than strikeouts (6.48 K/9). He’s still pretty young and has been very successful so far in his career, he’s pretty much the ideal minor league contract candidate. The two sides haven’t agreed to a deal yet, but they’re talking.

Ca try.orpas was a pretty good reliever at one time. If he regains his form, he could be of some help down the line. A minor league contract to see what he’s got is worth

    • Jose M. Vazquez..

sorry for the typo. meant is worth a try.

Hope they can get something worked out. I like this guy.

    This year’s Ayala?

    • Mister Delaware

      I was thinking Cory Wade.

(I once bid over $20 on Corpas in my NL only thinking he was going to be Colorado’s long term closer. Always thought his stuff was better than his strikeout rates and he was going to blow up. Unfortunately, only his arm did.)

Yankees seem to be on a great roll making minor moves. Adam miller could be interesting. Corpas could be interesting.

Now drop the big hammer for Darvish and its all gravy…

      Holy shit.

I’m not a huge NBA guy, but this is big.

      • The Big City of Dreams

There is a thought that they would then trade Bynum and others for Dwight Howard.

Are we forgetting anyone it feels like we are

      • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

        This actually made me laugh.

  • Rookie

Why not? Looks like he could have super upside if he can return to anything near what he was in 2006 and 2007.

For one reason or another, he probably won’t. But if the Yankees have a dozen or so such pitchers in the system, two or three of ’em might.

Just about had a heart attach with that headline! I saw “Yankees talking to Manny” on line one and thought of the idiot Ramirez. Whew!

    • LiterallyFigurative

      He’d be Montero’s dominance coach.

I initially read this as ‘Yanks talking to Manny Agent’s Corpse’. Blackberry on the train I guess.

  • A.Garcia

He’s from Panama. He and Mo can work together very well
