Yankees sign Alex Smith out of indy league

By

Via Josh Norris, the Yankees have signed right-hander left-hander Alex Smith out of the independent Northern League. The 27-year-old spent last season with the independent Newark Bears, pitching to a 3.39 ERA in 111.2 IP spread across 19 starts. He only struck out 56 and walked 52, however. Baseball America says Smith “has arm strength but not a lot of polish or secondary stuff at this stage.” More than likely he’s just minor league filler.

Great QB though. Hell of an arm to watch. lol but why don’t NFL quarterbacks double up as pitchers/mlb players during the offseason? imagine mike vick or mcnabb playing baseball… forreal

Still pissed that the Mets blocked the SWB yankees from playing in Newark this season.

The Mets were concerned aboutt he embarassment of trying to explain how the Yankees AAA farm club playing in Newark had a higher attendance than the Mets in Queens.

This move was due to Hughes’ sub-par outing today.

He is a lefty, therefore he is automatically a star pitcher. Thank the baseball gods!
