Astros claim Justin Maxwell

By

Via Brian McTaggart, the Astros have claimed Justin Maxwell off waivers. The Yankees designated him for assignment last week when they had no room for him on the Opening Day roster. Maxwell had a nice spring, so it’s not a surprise that he was claimed. At least the Yanks got to keep Chris Dickerson for outfield depth. Both guys were out of minor league options and I figured they’d lose both.

he may be a top-3 hitter on the astros

  2. Brian says:

The astros are almost like AAA

  3. ac says:

Since Astros claimed him do they have to give yanks anything ? Cashman said couple data hasn’t gotten 1 phone call on him. But now someone steps up to claim so they don’t have to give up a minor leaguer in return?

The Astros have a really good new GM–Jeff Luhnow–who led Cardinals’ player development over the last decade and was instrumental in their success. It doesn’t surprise me that he made this smart move.

(Disclosure: Luhnow is a friend of mine, so I may be biased!)

      Luhnow sucks.

Just kidding. He does have a good rep.

Can you share any “secret” information about them trying to recruit Klaw?

so does he slide into their outfield now? i mean, in the nl central he could end up hitting .220-245 with 20-30 hr and 200 ks if given a full time job no?

nice weekend for the yanks. girardi brain lock on opening day(walking rodirguez) in the first inning.

Mo with the blown save and tons of clutch hitting all weekend long. Tex and swisher are the same as last year and grandy so far nothing at all.

boone logan the same as he has always been and boom 0 and 3. tex and swisher are not big time players. the good news is swisher is gone end of the year, bad news tex and his unproductive AB’s around for a lifetime. swisher gets 85 rbi’s per year on this team, to me that is no biggie.

btw great defensive play by the old man in left today, way to turn a possbile out into a triple.

  7. stuart a says:

meant old man in right of course. overall they look old and slow so far and no clutch hitting at all. swisher with a 3 run jack in the 9th down by 5 to me is not clutch.

i forgot this is a site that is sabermetrics onlhy, clutch does not exist….that is why swisher sucks in the playoffs every year……just a coincidence that happense every year.

    • Monterowasdinero says:

Have to agree with your posts even though it has been 3 games. I certainly wouldn’t want Swish or Tex up in the clutch in the post-season. If we make the post season and Swish is awful again, I can’t believe they’ll resign him no matter what the regular season #’s. As for winning the WS with Ibanez in the starting lineup in October……I think not.

  8. Monterowasdinero says:

So Maxwell could be on the AL astros next year and have a chance to do you know what.

    • RetroRob says:

Hit more HRs than Montero? : -)

If I played in a NL-only fantasy league and had an opening, I totally would take a shot on Maxwell, if for no other reason he’ll hit some HRs in that park and steal some bases.
