Maybe it’s the 2010 ALCS, maybe it’s terrible articles like this, maybe it’s something else entirely. I just want the Yankees to pound the Rangers this week. Just completely wreck them on offense and dominate them on the mound. It’s unlikely to happen because Texas is really, really good, but I want it to. I want the Yankees to crush them so bad that come Thursday, the Red Sox will look at the Rangers and say “damn, glad we’re not them.” That bad. Here’s the starting nine…

The Yanks will prevail
It’s hilarious how hard Texas is trying to make us their rival. With Nolan Ryan’s comments last year, this horribly written article, etc., it comes off as trying way too hard.
Everyone does this when we show up. They treat every game with us like its the biggest game of the year, treating it like its some historical rivalry when we don’t even give a crap. Then they get offended when we don’t give a crap and they call us elitists.
I don’t know, I feel like Texas is a better rival than say Boston. They’re a legit team that has really challenged the Yanks and come into their own recently. Both sides have had memorable moments in the playoffs, and right now these are 2 for the best 3 teams in the AL. I’m not saying their fanbase is right in trying to make us into their rival, but on skill alone, these clubs can go back and forth.
I want the Yankees to win these games more than I wanted them to win at Boston, but I don’t consider the Rangers rivals. I guess they don’t play each other often enough and aren’t on the same playing field. Their division is so much easier.
To me, its that last one that hurts their case the worst.
In a way, they reminded me of the Rox…solid sticks with little pitching playing in a hitter’s heaven against a league that is pitcher park friendly.
However, over the last 3-4 years they have gotten solid pitching from the starters to the closers. They are a top 5 team no-doubt…they’ll win the divison, unless Yu & Holland have woes that is.
You have a point with the division. I guess it depends on what your defintion of a rival is. I think of a rival as someone who you have a history with (these clubs certainly do) and are equally matched with. The intra division Red Sox Yankees games, as good as some are, have in large part become irrelevant over the course of a season mostly because there are so many. They’ve both made the postseason only once in the past four years, and aside from some good regular season games, have 1978, 2003, and 2004 as great postseason meetings. For the amount that people hype those two up, that’s really nothing.
I’m not saying that the Yankees-Rangers is the next great rivalry, but it should be given some respect, as it is probably is good in terms of the games as Yankees-Red Sox.
There’s some history there, too, from the 90s. But the Sox-Yanks thing has so many moments in the bank.

Although we handled Texas last year, 2010 was a dogfight and will always be remembered when I think of why I hate the Rangers. That September sweep, with the Cruz walk off homer, the Mo hit batter walk off, and the Lee shutout still makes me angry to this day. Plus that ALCS was completely winnable. The Yanks need to show who’s number 1 here, and put the Rangers in their place.

BTW My9 seems to have more of a problem on its feed handling the bright sun on the field. The contrast is off on My9. Too dark at times. Seems strange since I’m guessing the My9 team is the YES team, and they’re as good as any network in quality, many times better.

I assume most of us know about offering him for Arod in the TX deal. But I hadn’t heard about offering him to KC for Beltran. They even played him at 3rd so the KC scouts could see him there. They took Buck and Teahen instead.
I thought they offered him for Randy Johnson too.
I guess when you don’t have many legit prospects you’ll offer up a good one until someone bites. Luckily for the Yanks, nobody did.
I’m not sure Cano was so much offered, but he was one of a collection of players Texas and Arizona could have asked for, yet neither did. Wang, too, could have been had by the DiamondBacks. Just confirmation on how difficult it is to project players who aren’t clear superstars.

Lot of pressure on being a Rangers fan now. No longer the underdog. They just spend 100+ million on a pitcher. They are regarded to be locks to win their division, and the odds on favorite to go to their third straight World Series. No fan wants to lose three straight World Series.
Would you rather be a fan of a team that went to two straight World Series and lost or one that got bounced in the second round one year and the first round the next?
And I believe that the compensation being paid to Darvish is the equivalent of less than $20 million per year for all-prime years — well below what CC got for years that will, I would think, be well past his. And they paid less than teams paid Halladay, Lee, Cain, and what people expect someone to pay Hamels. But PR-wise, you’re probably right.

If Stewart had taken off when the throw got loose he probably would have made it, but he hesitated and didn’t know what to do.
That’s what made it crazy. He should have hesitated because he’s dead-ass slow. He needs to see if the ball is going far away. Then when he saw it was only a few feet away, he made an actual decision to try for second.

It really is the worst. I mean it’s ok for judging if a pitcher/staff is being terrible, saying that a staff has the least quality starts in baseball, you know their going to be bad. However a pitcher could go out and pitch 30 “Quality Starts” a season and have only pitched 180innings to a 4.5 ERA. That’s not a quality starter in my opinion.
My biggest gripe is that according to the Quality Start statistic is it says 6 IP, 3 ER (4.5 ERA) is better than 9 IP, 4 ER (4.00 ERA). In what world is that okay?
I agree, It’s a halfway decent baseline to look at a a pitcher, but anybody who puts any serious stock in it is crazy.
There are worse stats. Certainly a pitcher can pitch well and not get a QS and vice versa, but if a pitcher has a high number of QS, that tells you something about a pitcher.
Runs scored is a less telling stat (data), in my opinion.
True. But why is a quality start defined as at least 6 IP and no more than 3 runs? Wouldn’t it make sense to make it a game ERA of 4.5 or less? That way it would include 9 IP 4 ER scenarios and thus be a much more telling stat. I guess that’s why I hate it so much, it would be so easy for it to be useful, but it’s not.
Because it’s a dumb stat and makes no sense. I think what they are going for is measuring both the ability to keep their team in the game and the pitcher’s consistency from game to game.

The opposing “ace” allowed 7 runs vs. us, another great offense. But that same ace can pad his stats vs. Seattle and Oakland several times a year. CC might get one shot at them annually.

Speaking of digging holes, the Phillies’ Kendrick just gave up a four-spot in the first inning against Arizona. Down five to Washington with Lee on the DL and the team not scoring runs, that’s got to hurt.
I know that they’ve got lots of players on the DL and that they’ve been awesome in the second half for the past couple of years. But could they actually dig themselves into a hole so deep that they don’t qualify for the post season?
If so, it would be a sweet irony given Lee saying his reason for not coming to the Yankees was that they were an old team and that Philadelphia gave him his best chance to win multiple rings.

I got really pissed off at you guys tonight over a samll problem that erased a comment that I wanted to make and it got OBLITERATED and DISAPPEARED!. I have had this problem before. I am not a rookie computer user but a network engineer. In the past, I have forgiven this issue, but I am too busy to deal with rewriting my comment. You need to fix this problem.
