Game 44: Getaway Night
ByThe Yankees have been scuffling in a real bad way these last few weeks, but they have a chance to win their second straight tonight and head into tomorrow’s day off feeling positive. No one wants to spend their Thursday thinking about yet another loss. Things turned around last season with a late-May trip to West Coast and that’s where the Yankees are heading next, so let’s wrap up this homestand on a high note. Here’s the lineup…
SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Mark Teixeira
3B Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
RF Nick Swisher
DH Andruw Jones
C Russell Martin
LF Jayson Nix
LHP Andy Pettitte
Tonight’s game is scheduled to start at 7:05pm ET and can be seen on YES. Enjoy.
Team Meeting Update: Jack Curry reports that Brian Cashman and Joe Girardi called a team meeting prior to last night’s game. They told the players not to panic and that they believe in their ability to bounce back from this ugly stretch of baseball.

can we call one of those meetings for the people who post in this game thread?
Include Mike. He’s been freaking out just as much as some of the commenters.
Go get ‘em tonight boys!
The new CBA has been posted here:
http://mlbplayers.mlb.com/pa/info/cba.jsp
for anyone interested (or just bored)
Does anyone else have a sneaking suspicion that whenever the Yanks won their next game (yesterday) that the following day we were going to hear about some “meeting?”
I forget who I was talking about this with a couple weeks ago, I think it was jjyank, and maybe Pat D, or Robinson Talapia, but it was about the merits of falling properly after a runner slid into first…For the billionth time I fell improperly off my skateboard again and jammed my wrist as well as ripping my palm open lol. This is why you always try to roll your shoulder into a fall!!
Wasn’t me.
Ha yeah that was me. That sucks dude. Always let your body take the fall! But unfortunately, that’s instinct, not a skill. Feel better.
Hah, thanks. I’m fine, except my palm feels raw…I barely feel any pain in my wrist.
If you wanna see a picture of my palm there’s a picture on my attached blog.
Girardi’s message probably was don’t panic, pull your heads out of your asses and start hitting that fucking ball before you get my ass fired.
Man two wins in a row would make the off day so much better…I was too busy getting blitzed with some old college buddies in Boston during the last Pettitte start, so here’s to hoping for a repeat performance.
Why is Tex in the 3 hole? He’s done nothing in the 7th spot to show he deserves to be moved back up.
because he hit lefties well last season, apparently
He did, but he hasn’t this season. http://www.baseball-reference......2&t=b
I know.
I really don’t get the move, though Cano has been awful against lefties this year as well.
Your guess is as good as mine.
N0 Kay? I approve. Does anyone know where he is?
*No
No idea if he’s working the West Coast trip, but if he is, maybe he got the day off to have an extra day to either get out there or just chill before the trip.
Kay on the West Coast? Hah.
Yea that would be the first time since he was on radio.
Kay is NOT going, going back, back, to Cali, Cali…
He did a series out in Anaheim a few years ago, but probably only because it was late in the season and they were the two best teams in the league.
Other than that, I seldom recall Kay calling games even west of Texas. Doesn’t happen too often, and I’m sure whether it’s a good or a bad thing.
Wasn’t he on Sportscenter tonight?
ESPN had an event in Bristol called Audio Avenue. They invited all of their affiliates.
When the hell did the Red Sox obtain Podsednik? WTF. They will forever have the offense that refuses to die. No matter what scrub they bring along, they will indeed contribute. Tired of seeing Yankee “All-Stars” falter while the nobodies in Boston always seem to flourish. Argh argh bark bark bark meow.
While confirmation bias no doubt exists here, I can’t help but agree with much of what is said here. Seems like a ton of schmucks go to Boston and experience an offensive revival, and it’s not always because of Fenway or bitamins.
To be fair, we have seen players like Ibanez, Thames and Jones come out of nowhere and have big years with us. But I agree, it’s ridiculous how they have Daniel Nava and Mike Aviles and Scott Podsednik being as good as they’ve been.
Am I the only one that is disappointed that Will Smith is white? Lame.
totally lame.
go andy
Would I trade a Yankees win for a Rangers win?
Hmmmmmm……….
NO!!
I would, only if Hamilton hits a couple more bombs in the loss
tollololol
Hockey.
Hence the trollololol at the bottom
If only you had said trollololol…
GO ANDY!
I love Andy’s windup. Always have, it just seems so smooth and awesome and crafty. So happy to be seeing it again.
It’s incredible that he’s only been out of the league a year and there are already basically two full line ups he’s never seen before in Seattle and Kansas City.
alright
The AL Central favorite Detroit Tigers, who I picked to win the World Series this year myself…
Haven’t won back-to-back games since 4/17-4/18, which was five weeks ago. Ouch!
The Rangers are 15-16 in their last 31 games and haven’t won more than two straight since the series immediately before they played the Yankees.
But if you were to ask a large chunk of this blog, we’re the only team that’s struggled…i don’t get it???
Sounds like the NHL Rangers too, in some ways!
10-8 since the playoffs began. Fortunately, they’ve placed those wins in good places.
They were picked by 50/50 ESPN experts to win the division. I know they still can win the division and are still very good, but still…
andy is a lesson in pitching – the rhythm, which helps the defense, the readiness, which puts pressure on the batter, the sense that nothing is going to rattle him.
AND….The Stare.
Sometimes I watch softball in Central Park during my lunch breaks.
One douche CONSTANTLY tried to pitch the ball before the batter even lifted his bat.
He would also scream and yell at the catcher for not returning the ball immediately at fastball speed.
He was kind of extreme with the ‘readiness’. Poor sportsmanship.
I have no point. Just a boring anecdote.
Grandyman.
GRANDYMAN! YES HE CAN!!!
grandy smokes one, welcome, rook.
lol … thank goodness the bunt was foul
man, it feels like forever since they scored first. Thank You Grandyman.
Let’s hope it’s one of those games where they club a young pitcher.
YEAHHHHH Grandyman! Welcome to be big leagues Agent J, maybe you should go fight aliens.
Curse of the First Inning Homerun. They’re going to lose now . . . 72% serious.
No.
Nice!
I aim to please.
Love seeing Tex work a walk on some close pitches
Hahahah, oh wow.
Mitch Williams (I believe) just said PED’s are no longer in baseball, unlike when ARod was coming up.
WHAT!?!?!?
Holy shit he’s off his rocker.
Girardi is a genius.
AN A-BOMB FROM A-ROD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that’s a little more than warning track power
A-Bomb!
YO! Now I like seeing that!
Schweeeeet!
AROD!!!! OFF A LEFTY!!!! Hellz yes.
POWER!
power from Arod!!!!!!!
I needed a game like this
garbage time.
A-Rod’s still got it.
He can’t hit lefties any more they said….he can’t hit for power anymore they said.
He sold his soul to Raul Ibanez.
A Bomb! Teh power!
More please!
I love when Cano starts an at-bat off with that fake bunt walk. It really seems to throw pitchers off and he’s likely taking all the way anyhow
If I were a rookie pitcher, I’d be flattered to give up HR’s to Granderson and A-Rod.
A-Rod had like no leg kick on that swing.
Interesting.
I heard Long say in one of the pre-games the last few days that he has been working with A-Rod on trying to stay better planted with less kick, and more of an up-and-down kick than back-and-forth.
I heard that as well. Hope this was a sign of things to come.
Anybody understand the significance of up-and-down versus back-and-forth? He didn’t explain it at all.
I’d think if he’s going forward with the leg, it takes longer to get the foot back down causing him to loose his timing, as well as putting him out in front.
I think it just means means a more vertical keg kick, rather than a horizontal one (moving it towards the pitcher). But I’m not hitting coach.
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was meant to be at the bottom of the comments after the double play. lol
I think they also want him to avoid shifting his weight from back to front so much. That way he can stay back on the pitch longer.
Haha. Arod said “halle-fuckin-lujah” when he got in the dugout.
Can you blame him lol?
Is Kevin Millwood this year’s Bartolo? What the hell’s going on?
Andy lookin’ SHARP. Love it.
I’m not going to lie, I expected him to do well coming back, he was pitching great in 2010 before he got hurt.
I did too. It’s not like Andy went out with a wimper. I was actually of the opinion that a year off would do him good. Rest the arm, rest the legs, have some extra time to get back into shape.
I was very upset after he called it quits and his last game was losing to Cliff Lee. He’s gotta have a better sendout than that!
Right, which is why he’s gonna clinch game 7 of the WS this year.
Andy is blowing my mind. Loving every second of this.
1-2-3. 1-2-3.
O man, Pettitte is going to save us this season
That would make the inner child on me very happy.
Interesting.
Why is that interesting? I grew up with Andy being my favorite non-Mo pitcher ever. Him coming back was awesome, and him coming back and greatly aiding the Yankee rotation after a year off is even more so.
You should read what you actually wrote, not what you intended to write.
Such a cool reply!
Haha, I thought it was funny too..
It’s not fair to have the “o” and “i” keys right next to each other. Damn you QWERTY.
Oh nevermind, wow I saw my typo. Scratch that haha. You know what I mean!
I thought it was funny.
You’re right it is. I just didn’t see the typo until it was too late lol.
Good night offense. See you in the 8th.
Also funny.
Silly infield singles.
Whoops.
that looked like maybe tex should have taken first and andy shoveled it to him
It’s the cough.
C’mon. DP now.
Yup.
Ask and receive.
The yankees allow so many infield singles
nice play Tex!
holy Teix. what a play. makes up for the stupid infield hits.
That was pure awesomeness
That was some double play. Wow.
I wish I had a video feed of the game, that sounded incredible…
It was one of the nicer 3-6-3′s you’d see. Diving stop, throw from the knees by Tex, easy pivot at 2B then back to Tex for a relatively close play.
Scratch that, not an easy pivot. Runner went into Jeet and he had to jump over and make a good throw back to Tex.
It’s on mlb.com as a clip…
so cool
Beautiful Tex. At least we can be thankful that his poor hitting hasn’t taken a toll on his fielding.
Make Tex a late inning defensive specialist!
Ha if only we had someone better at first with the bat, which we don’t.
Swisher.
No other viable RF option.
Duh Innings and Steve Pearce would like a word with you.
Heh, I forgot, we were supposed to trade the guys with no trade clauses for young studs. Good call.
Defense!
And the combination of Pettitte/Tex rescues an otherwise bungly inning for the infield.
Tex needs to hit some more so he can get that deserved Gold Glove.
Haha I hate that.
The Yanks are fired up tonight. DAYUM.
mmm, mmm, good!
Yeah! Lead-off 2B!
Captain!
Ah Jeter
imagine if all MLB pitchers were of the left-handed variety
Jeter: Ummm….hey Joe? I gotta go change my pants.
Now let’s unload!
will smith needs one of those MIB silver pen thingys to reset this game
*Flash*
You have NO idea how to play baseball.
Yankees: We…have…no idea how to play baseball.
Agent J: GOOD….
Hits are nice.
-_-
What’s this odd feeling I have listening to the Yankees? It’s vaguely familiar, but I can’t seem to remember what it’s called.
Well…I mean…it could’ve been worse.
Ah, Tex.
Doesn’t matter. Gets the job done
Save some for the next series! LOL! LOL! LOL!
Ugh.
paul o’neil waxing poetic about team meetings
FREAKING A-ROD.
Cool Tex. Cool.
holy fucking shit A-Rod is murdering this kid
What the fuck is going on?????!!?!??!?
A-Rod’s just showing off now.
2 HR’s!!!!
power’s back
An A BOMB!
Holy power surge, ARod!!1!!
I missed this A-Rod!!
A-ROD!!!!! WITH ANOTHER A BOMB!!!!!!!!!!! AND I GOT TO SEE IT!!!!
They give you one of those live look-in thingys?
Yep, I missed the Granderson single while it was loading, but got to see all of alex’s at bat.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop showing the kid’s mother! I’m starting to root against the Yankees!
kevin long is smokin’ a cuban cigar in his mind
srsly
But….I thought we were firing him because of teh RI$P Fail??
Yeah, that time he also did a smaller leg kick.
arod picks on child pitchers… what a jerk.
A-Rod has 2 homers because Mike linked to the Ian OConnor article in the Cody Ransom post.
yeah A-Rod!!1
However, why is Tex batting 3rd?
Me thinks A-Rod is back
Holy shit. Go to one rally to get Greece off the Euro and suddenly someone replaces my Yankees with a team scoring runs… The world is upside down.
Arod teaching that kid a lesson…one that few have been taught this year:(
At least he can go home to Jada. Right?
No?
Best part about that homerun, right before he launched it the KC tv broadcast was going on and on about how younger guys don’t really understand the history of the game and how Singleton had to pull Alex aside to explain to him the importance of catching Willy Mays. Who ever the broadcaster for KC is, he does know that Alex has a huge respect for the history of the game right?
Wow. For reals?
Yeah, he was just getting into the story as Alex swung. It was actually perfectly timed.
ARod with power is just one of the most fun players to watch.
Saberhagen’s one
I whip my hair back and forth! I whip my hair back and forth!
Just like that, powerless A-Rod is back on pace for 26 homers (if you round up).
Haha, before this game he was on pace for like 19 if you round down.
After this mauling Will Smith’s mom is going to send him to live with his Auntie and Uncle in Bel Air.
You win
He had the hottest cousins ever.
Or to fight ALIENS!!
or to hide his homosexuality behind Scientology.
Isn’t that Tom Cruise?
And Travolta. Seems to be a running theme.
Poor Cano, he’s hit two balls absolutely as hard as you can right at guys
meanwhile back in pettiteville, the pitches are humming and the bats are quiet
shut up
YS3 special?
Yea
by sterling’s call it sounded like it, cause he gets pumped no matter who hits it out.
Andy is pissed. I like that.
billy butler, kc secret (no so) weapon
This is why you score insurance runs, which the Yankees did luckily
Andy Pettitte: 4 hits, 2 infield, 1 bloop, and a short solo homer. Thats some bad luck
ycpb.
Make that 2 bloops.
make that 2 bloopers and 5 hits
Pettitte likes him some Moose Tacos…2 K’s in 2 PA
these are the cheapest hits ever.
So 2 bloopers and 2 infield hits.
Why’d Jeter throw home?
I forgot who the lead runner is…was it someone fast? Because that would make sense.
It was francouer.
Make that 3 infield hits and 2 bloopers
Hate those cheap hits.
Shane from the Walking Dead needs to shut this down.
OMFG! I fucking hate these cheap ass hits!
Rothchild probably told Andy to let them hit the ball harder.
LOL I want a .gif of that swing!
that might have been the swing of the year
Andy is Fuckin’ Dandy!
phew
Struck out the side!
Wooohoooooo Andy.
Andy had had enough of this crap and is just going to strike people out now.
Andy was just like “fuck that shit, if all these dinks and dunks are gonna fall in, I’ll just strike them out.”
Andy had enough of the cheap ass hits and decided it was better to just not let them put the ball in play at all.
Good thinking, Andy.
He’s got baseball smarts.
Russel can’t hit anybody, why make the change for him, I would’ve made it for Andruw. Odds are Girardi doesn’t pinch hit this early in the game.
You don’t want them to pull the starting C in the 4th when up by 4, do you?
No, I’m saying that if I was Yost I would have brought in the righty to face Jones, or just left the lefty in to face Martin. B/c Odds are Joe doesn’t pinch hit for Jones in the forth, and he’s terrible against righties, as well as Martin couldn’t hit a beach ball pitched under hand with a boat oar at this point.
Got it, Jones been decent against RHP (so far) this season.
SSS, acknowledged.
Kid’s gone.
omg it’s so bad!!
Poor Nick. He needs to put that pep back into his step and start raping the ball again.
Watching the replay of Alex’s homers, who ever mentioned it before…that is a much shorter leg kick than he’s used for a majority of this season, also it is just straight up and down instead of an actual stride.
I noticed it too. Whatever works, hope it continues.
Absolutely, I think it helps him start the swing faster, letting him get more power/pull into the swing before he makes contact.
Smith was lucky to make it as long as he did. Even outs like Tex’s DP were hit pretty much on the nose. If he’d had Pettitte’s luck with balls falling in, the Yanks would have about 9 runs.
Whoa. Devils up 2-0 in the first 5 minutes in Game 5
Nice.
+1
Ok. That’s it. I cannot defend Martin any longer because he’s a classy, nice, good guy. No matter his character I am over him. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is better than Martin. Good grief, Charlie Brown.
BS…Martin is the suck now at the dish, but he is better at baseball than Salty, he’ll be ahead of him come August.
Saltalamachia is a terrible defender and Martin still has a higher OBP by 30 points.
Who’s Mitch Maier?
Someone who will forever get to say he took borderline hall of famer Andy Pettitte yard.
Ha, yes.
That was just a bad pitch. straight down the middle.
I’ll take two solo shots and a bunch of cheap hits. Hopefully Andy can still go another couple of innings to make it a good/great start.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s pitched very very well apart from that pitch (even the one to Butler wasn’t terrible) but I was just stating, that was a terrible pitch.
Oh yeah, I know. Every pitcher gets a pass on a bad pitcher or two though, happens to everyone.
Andy’s looking good.
This is a good opportunity to get a hit with runners in scoring position.
jetes causing a little chaos
BUST. IT. OPEN.
I hope that play was as classic on video as it sounds like it should be.
It wasn’t that amazing. I prefer Quintero falling on his ass on the check swing the other inning.
It was just a high throw. Nothing too special.
Jeet continuning Moose Tacos education…priceless!
Devils up 3-0
Hell yeah.
What’s the advantage of having a 1B coach standing between 1B and home?
On that Jeter play, he maybe would have been more helpful out past 1B.
Where he is, he’s out of view of the runner.
Once there’s a runner at 1B, I can see a 1B coach being closer. I guess.
Maybe in case a runner is coming home. Someone has to tell him how close the play will be.
Thats all I can think of tho.
According to the Sterling Waldman theory, Grandy swings.
I was thinking ARod would be up after Grandyman, and thought that maybe tonight would be the night he ties Gehrig.
Then I remembered Tiex is 3rd tonight.
Well if Tex walks, singles with only one base advancement, or pops out you’ll still get a chance.
Walk! w00t!
I really am hoping he does it. That would be sweet.
It would’ve been amazing, but you know what? You can’t expect it…
BB, FTW!
What a “grand” opportunity for Tex.
It’s a bloodbath at Madison Square Garden right now.
Rangers look like absolute shit.
C’mon, TEX!!!!!!!
Triple play. Calling it right now.
Negative Nancy
There’s always one.
Yeah you guys are right the Yanks have a great track record with RISP this year…
It takes a troll for a triple play call when the Yankees are hitting well in a game. So go away.
Go away.
So…this could be fucking amazing…
That works!
Watch out, Lou.
tex bb rbi
Heh I’ll take it. But let’s make this a laugher now.
Let’s see if Rodriguez ties Gehrig on that Grand Slam list…
Tex can’t hit but at least he can take a walk.
Keep that kick down again!
This game is AMAZING.
More fun than amazing. From a competitive stand point…it’s actually been boring.
Ill take a lot of those from now on…
I’m okay with boring if it means 8 runs. I’ve forgotten what offense feels like. Feels pretty amazing.
Another look in
Damn
BOO!!!!!!!!! RISP FAIL BOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jk.
Ahh. Next time A-Rod.
Oh well. Maybe next time.
Meanwhile, it wasn’t a DP. So I’ll take it.
It will happen. He’s under contract for too long to not get two more.
Not what I was hoping for but at least he got a run in.
…no he didn’t lol. Bases are still loaded with one away though.
Let’s go, Robbie.
Rangers just got on the board. 3-1 Devils
Wow, what a play.
Well can’t put that on Robbie…that was an amazing play. At least a run scores.
jeter doesn’t make that play
Yeah, Jeter sucks. Send him down.
While I also think that that was the sentiment which may have spawned this comment, lets not jump down his throat for nothing. What he said was true.
And the reason to say that is…
Stupidest comment I’ve seen at RAB.
Ouch. You must not come around much.
Or, at all…
We should introduce you to Rainbow Connection sometime.
woah, sooner or ltr those bullets are going thru
Christ. I’ll take the run, but damn.
A run is a run.
Some bad BABIP luck for the Yankees tonight. And theyre winning. Im confuse
ouch
Ouch.
Oh shit, I hope Swish is okay…right on the elbow.
????? ???
(Thank god)
Whoops, guess RAB doesn’t like Arabic text…transliterated, my line was “hamdu lelah”, meaning thank god. We need Swish to not go back on the DL.
WOOOO!!!!!
I haven’t heard my iPhone ESPN notifications go off this much since the Boston Massacre back in April.
Yikes. Is that 3 runs walked in by KC tonight?
only 2
Incredible! Even when the Yankees score they can’t get hits with RISP!
I love when they do the “K by K”!
Moose Tacos with the hat trick!
Yikes. Baltimore has scored more runs than the Yankees. Just noticed this. I puked a little.
They can actually hit with RISP
*shrug* They’ll be back in last place at some point.
They’re not a last place team. They got fight in ‘em.
Get back to me in July.
They are. And they will be.
Supposedly, they’ve had that for years now. And been in last every year anyway.
I’ve heard that about the Baltimore Orioles before. Open to being wrong. I wouldn’t be putting money on it if I were you.
Which is why they have a better record than the Yankees do.
Man, Greg, for reasons beyond my comprehension, I just do not like you. Sorry.
Pot meet kettle.
Tim Collins…he has the most adorable little chocolate chip on his shoulder…and he only pitches at…AWESOME O’CLOCK.
He should go help Doctor Evil with a plan to beat Austin Powers.
And he’s my height.
Well aren’t you a little adorable chocolate chip!! I bet you put your child to bed at…AWESOME O’CLOCK.
Hmm.
I’ll try not to run you over accidentally.
My wife is taller. Just look for her first.
3 Walks, 2 HBPs, and 1 Hit = 3 Runs. What was it, 0-3 with runners on base? I know beggars can’t be choosers but that inning was pretty horrific. Still no apparent ability to hit with RISP, especially at the heart of the order. Should they manage the win tonight, I still won’t be terribly satisfied to be honest. I know that some balls have been hit hard and all, but this insanity is just excruciating.
They’re winning 8-2. Does it really matter how they score 8 runs? Just be happy for a day, will ya?
We as Yankee fans demand perfection. It’s The Boss in us.
No it’s just stupid in you. 8-2 is a good win, people need to stop bitching about stupid things. Would would think an easy 8-2 win would quiet the complainers. Just enjoy the win. I’m pretty sure the Boss would have been fine with such a score.
I demand someone drop an anvil on the head of anyone who busts out assholery like this.
It seems like someone ran out of doucheing this fine evening.
Are you referring to Tilapia? Because if so, you should know that he’s one of the most prolific users of sarcasm on this site.
On the other hand, I was hoping your comment was also sarcasm. If it wasn’t….we may have a deeper problem, flapjack.
As well as a prolific user of the finest cologne.
I wish you and Lord Snow here would run out of it.
It seems like someone decided to try out some new screen names tonight.
Some people just can’t be satisfied.
Sorry, sir, I guess the last few weeks (or entire season for that matter) have acted as quite the deterrent to my prospective satisfaction. My bad. But hey, going 8-90 (or whatever it is) with RISP is certainly respectable, I’ll give you that. A win is good but the holes are still apparent. Sorry for having an opinion and subsequently stating it. I will not do it again, your highness.
The point is to relax and enjoy a nice win. If you can’t just sit back and enjoy an easy 8-2 win, then maybe baseball isn’t your sport.
Hey, thanks for the advice. Appreciate it. I’ll be sure to take your unsolicited advice into consideration. You’re the best. You take care now, ok?
You don’t seem like a baseball fan. Yanks win 8-2, yet you’re still pissy. I’m confused. A-Rod his a couple of homers, Yanks take a bunch of walks, Pettittie throws a gem, some nice fielding plays, and yet you still complain. I feel bad for you, I really do.
So what was your screen name yesterday, before you decided a winning game thread just wasn’t exciting enough for you?
Why is it that you can express an opinion and then expect no one who has a problem with it to post their opinion in turn?
It isn’t about being peachy keen and having a 10 on the confidence scale after tonight. Its about actually enjoying the game, and the way you’re talking (and have been talking in nearly every game thread this handle has appeared in), you don’t.
I’m sorry, boss. I hate my life. You’re right. I don’t know how to enjoy myself or the wondrous elements around me. Thanks for the push. Now, if you don’t mind, I need to go gather some scented candles, rusty razor blades, Kenny G’s Greatest Hits, and start up the bathtub.
Greg?
Lord Snow supposedly hates Greg. I’m really hoping they’re different people. I like to think Greg doesn’t switch his name up. He’s grown on me, like mold or a benign tumor.
I actually don’t mind Greg either. He said positive things when warranted. Lord Snow here, isn’t satisfied with a 6 run lead. I’m confident that they are in fact different people.
Sounds about right.
I just like seeing the three usual assbags on this site getting all hot and bothered. Cannot tolerate any one of you, but together . . . It’s actually quite entertaining. You make baseball . . . fun. Yeah, fun, that’s it. Take a break from the threads for a while and, I don’t know, get a life. Cool beans? Cool beans. All right. Adios fellas.
I resent the word “usual.”
You’re cool.
The name says it all I suppose. Adios to you too.
0_o
And you think GREG is annoying?
So is Lord Snow in the troll book now? Because he’s rubbing me that way.
Have you seen him or In Mason We Trust before tonight? Hmmm.
Snow has been around for awhile, if intermittently. Weeks at least. Mason is new.
Eh. I like to give people a lot of rope before I stick them there. He might just be having one of “those nights.”
I’ve seen him before, he’s not new here.
Yeah. He’s usually not this silly or rude though.
Or at least that was my impression. You’re around here more than me now that I’m home for the summer.
He’s been a bit like Bonnie/Clyde. Not a troll, but usually very negative. I guess I’ll give him another game thread or two before it’s troll status, but this was a step in that direction for sure.
Insanity is in the eye of the beholder.
“Insanity is to repeat the same thing over and over and to expect the outcome to change”-Albert Einstein, paraphrased.
Dear God. This has gotten silly.
You aren’t satisfied with two homers from ARod, AP throwing a gem, Teix looking good in the field and actually taking some walks again, Cano hitting balls on the screws for outs….? NONE of that gets you? And you still enjoy baseball over the course of a full season?
Impressive.
Rangers score again. 3-2 Devils. Devils are losing this game I bet
Am I correct that both KC runs came on solo HRs?
Yup. One of which was a cheapie.
Yes
Guess who just got back today,
Them wild-eyed boys that’d been away,
Haven’t changed, had much to say,
But man, I still think them cats are crazy.
They were askin’ if you were around,
How you was, where you could be found.
Told them you were livin’ downtown,
Drivin’ all the old men crazy.
The boys are back in town.
Could you imagine a starting rotation of Sabathia, Hamels and Pettitte. Dreamers can dream…
Take payroll out of the equation and I’d be drooling at CC/Hamels.
Take this to the bank:
Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner has a very heated conversation about future of the club yesterday. Hal wasn’t really moved much and is still focused on cutting payroll. The topic of the conversation was “Offense”. Cashman expressed to Hal the need for a much improved offense (he’s pushed it for years, I know what the media says).. Hal at this point wants nothing to do with spending money. There’s a catch – Shortly thereafter Cashman received a call from Hank who is pushing for Josh Hamilton with full guns blazing. Why am I posting this you may ask ? The disharmony in Yankee land is nothing to sneeze at. Jennifer fully trusts Hal and usually goes with what he suggests, but even she is having change of heart.
More to come as it comes.
Interesting speculation.
STAY AWAY FROM HAMILTON FOR THE LOVE OF MY SNOWBOARD.
Sorry, that is more holy to me personally. But you get the point. I’m curious where you get your information from though.
the lowest most orifice on the back side of his body.
YOU TOLD ME YOU WERE A DOCTOR.
Na I’m really just a snowboarder.
Was there a car chase? I love a good car chase.
tex on another walkabout
Come home and see this score. I like.
Hooray, more offense between leaving work and getting home
Dropping More:
Cashman reached out to Bobby Abreau but he wanted to stay in Ca if possible. It was a geography thing but at one point I thought it was going to happen.
Cashman has been making phone calls to see what’s available. Nothing imminent but you might just say that Bri’s doing the footwork. It’s quite possible, we’ll see a deal with a west coast team for a bat !
This is getting fun.
I hear it’s gonna be Andre Eitheir for Phelps, Nunez, and Epply.
What if he actually knows what he’s talking about? Its almost certainly not the case, but still….
He’d have spelled Abreu correctly.
Still, though, Yankee FO fan fiction may be an untapped source of entertainment here. I’m waiting for my Gene Michael erotic thriller.
Tell the truth: You’re Cashman’s chauffeur, right?
Sterling needs to stop saying “The bags are bulging with Bombers”.
Actually, on second thought, I guess I can deal with it if it means the bases are loaded, annoying as it is.
Hahahahaha. Classic Sterling buffoonery. I wonder if he talks like that around the house.
“Honey, my bags are BULGING with bombers.”
“…what?? Yes…yes, I did take my Viagra…”
I think his family would’ve killed him at this point.
*standing ovation from his computer chair*
*standing ovation lying down on the couch*
*standing ovation from sitting in a leather chair*
SAME!!
Hmmm.
thnx, andy
I’d rather Freddy here in a low leverage, multiple inning role, and Phelps in a higher leverage multiple inning role.
I agree, but he hasn’t pitched since the 19th. They might just want to get him some work.
I was thinking that as I typed, but at the same time I just wanted to put that opinion out there.
Yep. My dad and I were just talking about how we almost forgot Phelps was on the roster. Freddy is the mop up guy, then what is Phelps? I kinda want the Yankees to try him out in a close game in the 7th inning or something to see what happens. Two long/mop up men is really not necessary.
I agree, but Phelps has only pitched once in the last 8 days, and they have an off day tomorrow
He could use the work
I agree. I also can’t remember the last time I saw Phelps.
Well done Mr. Pettitte.
This is awesome.
It’s good that Pettitte only threw 98 pitches tonight, after 115 (I think) in the last one.
Yeah, no reason to stretch him so much when he’s not outright dominating like last time. Especially with Phelps needing the work.
So I see I’ve missed quite a few interesting posts.
Indeed you have. Negativity in 6 run leads. I feel bad for them.
“Interesting” probably is giving it all a bit too much credit.
Meh.
I mean….I guess its good these guys are at least showing up when we win now? Is that a positive?
I preferred it the other way. Negativity in games where the Yankees have a 6 run league boggles my mind. I at least understand it when they’re losing.
If I had to pick, it’d be this way. At least negativity in a 6 run game is easy to laugh off. In a loss, it’s just like salt in the wound.
True. Can’t argue with that.
So…did anybody just see that poor dude get ROCKED in the face?
Seriously. I cannot be the only person who thought that was hysterical…
He was doing his Nunez impersonation.
:rimshot:
Seriously, though, ouch! Looked like caught him right above the left eye. They never went back to him.
No, but before they cut away I saw a cop running over to him, I’m sure he’s okay.
Yea, I can’t believe they didn’t show a replay. Maybe the Royals feed did. That’s something that should be on not Top 10.
More:
Cashman went to bat for Andy. Hal set the amount and I quote, “For Andy, we can make an exception but since we don’t need him I don’t see us being able to reallocate more than two-half”. Yes, he said “reallocate”.
There was also heated debate over the fans having to pay the price over Hank’s Arod blunder. Hal isn’t hearing it but he does recognize that changes need to be made. They all still have full faith in Girardi, in fact Hal see’s Girardi’s tenure competing with Torre’s one day.
– Prying anybody from Dodgers will be impossible right now. Now with their hot start. A wait and see maybe ?
None of this is really news, I enjoyed your fake news more…
Why is the thought of Girardi approaching Torre’s stature threatening to Hal? I must know more.
“There was also heated debate over the fans having to pay the price over Hank’s Arod blunder.”
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude, you were doing well until now. But “debate over the fans having to pay the price”???? Please try harder.
Okay you either stop posting fake new, or you post a link/source, mkay?
Nah, this is fun.
This is awesome. The ante needs to be upped. Suzyn walks in Sterling with his pants around his ankles and Carlos Siiiiiiiilva nearby type stuff.
Yea, I’ve gotten to the point where I miss Duh Innings.
Yes, I’m serious.
Holy crap. That’s…..that’s bad.
No, you’re not! You can’t be!
will somebody else accusing you of making fun of somebody dying of cancer do?
Yes, it just might.
Nix has seen a lot of pitches tonight.
His last AB was kinda epic, or would have been had he found a way to get on base.
This strikezone has been….interesting tonight, at least looking at ESPN’s Gamecast.
Last drop:
Cashman approached Seattle to pry King Felix from them. He told Jack to basically pick the players that would get it done. Bri basically packaged 6 different players to get it done, he did get very creative. Seattle was willing to trade King Felix for Robinson Cano & Nova.
Yankees obviously refused and unintentionally worked themselves into the Piñata (Pineda, we call him that here) trade.
The day after the trade was made. Brian said, “This is either a home run or a bust, but without the money to go after Darvish we have to take the risk, you saw what pitching did for us last year”.
See, now this is more like it.
Slippin.
LOL. I seriously cracked up on this one. Piñata? Cashman as “Bri”? Love it.
Yeah, our FO probably called ARod ARoid back when it was hip. They mock the players openly all the time.
Maybe he’s Cashman’s biographer!
He’s better known as Bri-Bri
You never explained your screen name, and I’m suddenly craving carbs.
Stupid story. A couple of years ago I kept seeing these memes for post titles and screen names like OMG! Puppies! or Cats! or Ponies! or whatever.
One day I was sitting in a work meeting starving and reading RAB when I should have been paying attention to the meeting and the next thing I knew I was posting my first comment as bagels came through the door.
Terrible writing, switching back and forth between Cashman and Brian. Rule 1 of news/sports journalism, pick either a first or last name and stick with it as to avoid confusion from readers. Usually it’s last because it makes far less confusing, and it’s easier to include titles such as Doctor or Esquire.
cc and broxton do NOT ride on the same plane – ever.
It’s so much fun to see the Tigers fall flat on their face like this.
The same could be said for us and Boston.
Worse for them. 20-23 when they were CLEARLY the best team in their division.
Very true.
My Source ? Like I’d really give it. Here’s a hint. Exit 13.
IF ONLY THAT MEANT ANYTHING
How about who are you, not your source, but who are you? As well as a link that proves you are who you say you are. And what gives you access to your source?
Maybe he’s SJ44 from the old LoHud days.
Something tells me he’s just a dude living at his parents house who’s making shit up for fun. “Bri” and “Piñata” was the obvious giveaway.
Hey, whats wrong with living in your parents house?
Nothing, I currently am as well (for another couple of weeks anyway). Just driving the point home that he’s not a front office exec.
The postings are coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE!
Gee! You think?
I’m sticking with him being Cashman’s biographer.
Nitabach’s guess that he’s the chauffeur also bears thinking upon.
I feel like even Axisa has big dinner plans tonight and left the blog completely unsupervised.
This does sort of seem to be the case. We usually hear from him on ridiculous posts.
It’s “Wasted Wednesday” after all. Maybe Axisa is having himself a night on the town. He could probably use it.
If this is going to be that kind of party, I’m going to stick my dick in the mashed potatoes.
Fun win. Hope ARod’s modified swing works for him.
American…Mashed Potatoes? ewww.
Time to pull out that copy of “Ill Communication.” RIP MCA.
RIP MCA indeed.
Yeah…the world is a different place knowing the Beastie Boys will never make music again, and that if they do MCA won’t be there.
And it won’t be Beastie Boys without MCA. Very sad. End of an era.
Damn, what is with all these bloops falling, as well as Cano getting robbed on three hard hit balls…Babip gods, what did we do?
Good win.
Ah, DOTF just put up. Axisa is indeed around.
w00t!!!
Not good enough!!!!!!!!! TOO MANY HOMERZ!!!! NO CLUTCHEYNESS!!! AND ZERO HEART!!!!
Okay Lord Snow.
SO TRUE! This is unsustainable!! I am revising my prediction from this being an 83-79 team to an 81-81 team.
Pft, they’ll be lucky to win 80.
http://www.ordinaryresponse.co.....llface.png
Solid win. Awesome to go into the off day with back-to-back wins. Yanks needed this.
I’ve said this before, but it always seems they put it together right before an off day, then stumble out of it…I hope this breaks the trend though.
So, on a night where the team puts together good pitching, actual hitting and getting needed runs home, and Alex Rodriguez hits two HRs, those who bellyache the most on here about those things are silent. Figures.
Great win. That was so much more like it.
Fun win. Hope ARod’s modified swing works for him.
I just hope that if he makes out the first few times on friday he doesn’t revert back =/
Works much better here than when you replied to the mashed potatoes line with it.
Yes. Yes it does.
Damn you, reply fail. Damn you.
I’m hopeful. I know it’s something they’ve been working on, hope this is a sign of things to come. A-Rod has been productive, but if he gets his power stroke back, it’ll be a huge boost for the offense.
Rangers just tied it up.
I’m torn. I feel bad because it feels like the state in which I live in is so hated that I don’t feel confidence in myself. However, it is a New York team going into the finals, so it’s not bad.
Not a hockey guy at all, but I’d consider them both “local” teams.
Now I gotta figure out how the fuck to stay awake for these West Coast night games.
Coffee + Baileys = West Coast Win.
Did anyone listen to Kay’s bizzare rant on Alex’s postgame interview on the radio yesterday? I’m glad Alex hit the two dingers just to shut him up. Kay’s just been stranger than usual lately.
Goodnight folks. More will be revealed at a later date. If I had more info I would give it, erm, uhm, well maybe not
Tomorrow, I might “drop” a bit more .
Fun is fun and this team is in need of fun. Yankees maybe be struggling but they’ll get it together.

– Exit 13, Darien CT –
Not off the Merritt it ain’t.
Correct. 95, right next to Duchess.
Andy saves the day/year/team.
God damn it I want a bagel. With butter AND cream cheese. AND CHIVES!!
That does sound awfully good. Can it be a salt bagel ?
*night*
Wow, getting crazy there, you want some Lox as well =P
No FUCK lox. Scallions. Lots and lots of scallions.
Girardi on postgame (I’m paraphrasing) when asked about the team meeting:
“Umm well if I wanted to invite outside people to a meeting I might or might not have had, I would. But I didn’t. And if I do have a meeting that I might or might not have, I’ll let Zillo know. Let’s just leave it at that.”
Hahaha seems like a really nice, media-friendly to say “Fuck you, leave my team meetings alone.”
That’s good stuff.
I leave you all with a funny for the night:
