2012 Draft: Best Available on Day Two

By

The Yankees went big with their first round pick on Monday night, taking prep right-hander Ty Hensley with the 30th overall selection. Both Baseball America and Keith Law (subs. req’d) listed the ten best available players still available this morning, with no expected first rounders still on the board. I recommend checking out BA’s top 500 rankings; you can sort by drafted or undrafted with a lot more players listed. High school arms RHP Duane Underwood and RHP Trey Buttrey have been connected to the Yankees in recent weeks and remain available, though New York’s approach from here on out remains to be seen.

Hopefully one of the local St. johns draft eligible kids hears their name today. I’m not from Queens but I’ve always rooted for the Red Men come tournament time/ NIT time.

fernyls Sanchez (?), the GW high school OF, is probably too raw to get the call today. Would like the Yanks to take a chance on Sanchez with a third round pick.

I have an irrational love of Sanchez. He was a potential top 100 guy right after the 2011 draft. Missed most of the season with a broken leg.

Also with his injury, he might be good for a below-slot deal.

For the Saffold pick, I think Alex Wood. 4 year collegian with a good chance to sign.

Don’t really like what I’ve read about him, hard thrower but he’s supposedly a reliever.

doesn’t matter if they don’t sign him they get the pick again next year. Only reason to take a guy like that is to take signability guys later in the rds

Not true – you don’t sign them, you lose the pick and the slot money for the pick.

Alex Young, lhp. Potential 2nd rounder

Young committed 100% to TCU last Friday so he won’t be drafted until late if at all.

would love to see Underwood taken by the Yankees
