Game 64: Don’t stop at seven
ByIt’s really difficult to not be excited about the way the Yankees are playing these days. They’re getting excellent work on the mound from both the starters and relievers, plus the lineup has seemed to correct their inability to get that big, timely hit. They’re still crushing dingers as well, so it’s the best of both offensive worlds. Seven wins in a row is nothing to sneeze at, and today they’ll push for their first eight-game winning streak since last August. Here’s the starting nine…
SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
RF Nick Swisher
LF Raul Ibanez
C Russell Martin
3B Eric Chavez
LHP Andy Pettitte
Today’s game is scheduled to start a little after 1pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. If you’re in the D.C. area, we’re having a little meet-up after the game. Enjoy.

No A-ROD
Saturday day-off, I guess.
At the start of the 6 game road trip, Girardi said everyone should be able to play through all 6 because of the day off in the middle.
Now, he changes his tune with 2 starters getting days off, and says he didn’t know this was a day game, all despite A-Rod saying he knew for almost a week that he was going to be given today off.
Unsurprisingly, it’s not really worth listening to Girardi when it comes to this stuff anymore.
Do you actually care?
Do I care that guys (mostly A-Rod) seem to get too many days off? Yes. Do I care that he openly lies to the media, and thus the fans through them? Yes, though I’m sure he and organization don’t care about that, and I don’t blame them, I’m just one fan.
But, if you’re not going to play them all 6, then don’t volunteer the info that you are going to play them all 6.
Ok.
To infinity and beyond…
Steve Urkel just threw out the first pitch.
Gonna be tough to raise this guy’s pitch count. Pounds the zone
Ruh Roh.
Taking the easy way out again.
Bob Carpenter and F.P. Santangelo today for me. I don’t listen to the Nats too much on MLB.tv – are either of them good at what they do?
They sounded OK when I heard them against the Blue Jays earlier this week.
They aren’t as bad as Rob Dibble, for sure.
Does anyone ever feel confident when TEX is at the plate? What happened to the 290/300 Hitter he used to be?
Nitpicking, the way were playing, but he is frustrating to watch hit now a days…
Dandy Andy on the other hand is a blast to watch pitch!
I don’t give a shit about batting average but Teixeira sucks.
So today will be the last Saturday I ever work at T-Mobile.
How do they thank us? Well last night, and I’m expecting today as well, we get put in additional queues so we can take more calls. Just because there are “Father’s Day Sales” going on.
Well, let me run this by you. This was quite possibly the most disgusting thing a customer ever told me. A customer bought a phone from one of our direct retail stores on Thursday. It had problems, so it needed to be returned. She went back to the store yesterday and the store told her that they were focusing on sales and so they wouldn’t exchange it for her. When she told me this, I was completely floored. Now we have a large distrust of retail reps as it is because they seem to refuse to help customers with basic problems, but this took the cake. They refused to exchange this woman’s phone. They were so focused on making new sales, that they weren’t willing to protect an existing sale. I told the customer to go right back to the store and have them exchange it, and if they would not, to go to a different store. I told her what they did was unacceptable.
I once worked at an indirect agent store for Cingular, meaning we weren’t owned by Cingular, but our storefront and our shirts said Cingular, therefore we represented that company. If I ever said something like that to someone I had sold a phone to, I would have been fired on the spot.
This is just one of the many reasons that I will have pretty much no sympathy for this company once I’m not a member of it. Once I get my severance pay, I’m switching my phone service to Verizon and not looking back. It’s not like I’ll have to feel sorry for people left behind, as there won’t be any. Yea, some of my friends decided to transfer, but there weren’t too many.
OK, rant over, Go Yankees.
This game is going so quick that by the time i finished reading your rant there’s already 1 out in the second.
It’s funny to go back and read this after the fact.
Sad that Customer Service is ignored like that. Deming is rolling over in his grave. T-Mobile won’t be around in 5 years and they’ll have this (and many other reasons) to blame for it.
To me the downfall began about 2 years ago when they drastically reduced our CRT (call resolution time) goal from 959 seconds to 840 seconds. Everyone began to feel really rushed and we started to cut corners, like forgetting common courtesies, which started to cost us winning the JD Power Awards, which is all they ever cared about previously. Then some of the top execs left/retired, and the new CEO came from Deutsche Telekom, which to me was nothing more than a sign that his job was to sell the company. A few months later, the AT&T merger was announced. That started causing customer loyalty to drop.
Then we started to count handset exchange percentage as a metric. So now we couldn’t just exchange phones whenever we wanted to. This made sense, as we were doing tons of exchanges that were not going to help a customer. However, our customers were so used to getting whatever they wanted, that they didn’t like this and that caused a lot of grief.
Now since the merger fell apart, they’re closing a bunch of centers within the US while keeping all the outsourced centers open. Oh, yea, that’s another reason our customers have been leaving. And not having the iPhone. Now they’re also massively restructuring. To me, this all adds up to the company not being around much longer.
The level of customer service provided and how a company treats a customer is important to me. I remain loyal to those companies. I’ve had a USAA credit card for fifteen years. They’ve never once called me, emailed me, solicited me, jacked up my rates without telling me, etc. And when I’ve had a question or an issue, they’ve handled it professionally. Same with American Express. High level of customer support. I use Amazon for similar reasons. I ordered a DVD, never showed up, they overnighted me another without question (the original order wasn’t even an overnight order). Several weeks later the original order showed up (it had been misdelivered by UPS). I asked Amazon what I should do with the duplicate and they told me I could return it, or keep the second copy since it was their fault it arrived late (which it wasn’t). Companies like that get my repeat business.
I’m the same way. I find companies that treat me well and I stick with them. Amazon has always been great, so I’m loyal to them.
Just don’t do anything on your last day to get fired!
Oh, I was put on “decision time,” which is last step before termination, a week before the closing announcement came through, so I’ve been as careful as possible.
I also got switched to a team with one of my old supervisors, so I wasn’t worried about getting in trouble then.
On your last day show up in your boxer shorts and nothing else, and hit on everybody. Man, woman, married, boss, intern, EVERYBODY! Especially if you have a new job lined up already.
There’s a rumor that our last day, this coming Friday, will be a barbeque and they may not have us take any calls. I sure hope so, considering I expect today to suck ass.
Long story short, I won’t be doing that.
No, just hit on Carly Foulkes.
I am considering swiping one of the many cardboard cutouts of her, just for shits and giggles…
How generous on the severance are they being?
About $7500, of which I’m expecting about 25% to be taxed.
It was slightly insulting because I would have gotten more had the AT&T merger gone through and we got laid off as a result of that.
Sounds like they treat everyone like shit (customers, employees, etc.)
It’s felt that way for some time. The problem starts with the parent company (DT) and all the debt they have for their own operations. Our profits have decreased, so now we’re a problem instead of being the savior.
Yeah, it sounds like you’re better off getting another job.
Is this NYS?
As far as I know, severance is taxed as a ‘bonus’ (much, much higher than the normal already-way-too-high taxes). Mine got taxed around 50%, but that was back in 2005.
Do you live where there are no state taxes?
My current quarterly bonuses are also taxed at almost 50% in NYC.
I could be completely wrong, though.
I live in Pennsylvania. I missed the meeting where they said how it would be taxed, but my coworkers told me it wasn’t going to be taxed like a bonus.
If it ends up that way, I’m going to highly pissed off since collecting unemployment is apparently going to be a pain in the ass.
Why would collecting unemployment be a pain in the ass? You still get it even with severance.
We had someone from unemployment come in twice to talk to us about it. She made it sound like the most confusing thing in the world.
First of all, we won’t get any money from them for about 3 weeks after we’re terminated (not mention the severance won’t show up for at least a month). Second, there’s all this stuff about what we have to “declare” to them. On June 29, we get our last regular paycheck and we also get the second part of a “retention” bonus related to the failed AT&T merger. She said the bonus money has to be “reported” to them. I tried to ask what about our last paycheck then, and I was ignored. She just made it a million times more confusing.
The only other time I collected unemployment, back in 2005 for a period of about 6 weeks, I don’t remember it being nearly as complicated. They also say you have to apply for 2 jobs per week and do stuff on the state CareerLink site to qualify, though that’s all done on “the honor system.”
It’s sounding pretty fucking ridiculous.
Every state is different I’m guessing. A friend of mine in NJ said the initial process is annoying, but once you’re in the system it’s pretty easy. I’m guessing all states have the application process online by now.
There used to be a week waiting period before you can apply, and then another week for processing, so it can take a couple weeks for the first check to arrive. I’m assuming that still holds. Severance checks, vacation pay and final paychecks should not delay how quickly you receive benefits. I’m not sure about the retention bonus part. My entirely uneducated guess is it probably won’t take more than 15 minutes or a half hour to complete the application, and then you’ll be notified by mail when your benefits start.
Got a feeling Chavez is going yard today.. hes due, and i think he’ll line up one of these fastballs from zimmerman, and jack it outta the park…
And Pettitte just took Harper to school
Andy with a nice 1,2,3 first inning… Time for us to get a guy or 2 on and let Chavez go yard!
Your handle is everything that’s wrong with the internet.
And Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle is right i suppose?
pfft!
Blowout please.
OMG a baserunner!!!
Great at bat by Swish
great AB by swish… on different note, Nats broadcast is REALLY good
TV or Radio?
Yeah, FP Santangelo is good in the same way Mark Grace is good. I also like those guys.
Oh, that’s such nonsense from Kay. That was a combination of being so bad that the Nats had the first picks on two consective years when two generational talents were available.
Seriously. They (Harper and Starsburg) were consensus top picks with talent that seems to come only once in a lifetime. If they had top picks in 2012/2013 like the Astros probably will have I don’t think they would’ve faired as well.
Exactly. I understand what he was trying to say. In some years it’s true. A ten-year-old could have drafted Strasburg and Harper. No skill. The luck of being bad when those players came available.
Is he going on about the Nat’s excellent scouting for drafting Srausburg and Harper? Because Anybody with an IQ higher than their shoe size would know that they were the no-brainer pick.
It wasn’t quite that bad. He basically was pointing out how critical it was that an organization not mess up when they have the top picks because it could set them back years, and then pointed to the successful drafting of Strasburg and Harper as examples of how to do it right. He didn’t say it quite that way, but that’s what he was implying.
It’s easy to pick those guys. They’re clear #1s. They’re actually more than that. They’re clear #1s and regarded as two of the single best prospects to come along in a decade or two. Contrast that with the draft this year and the Astros. That’s much more difficult. Even if they make a good pick, doesn’t mean the player will even be great.
A hit? Really?
I kind of understand that scoring. The ball did not come off the middle of his glove; it was on the upper half. It was high enough to escape the glove
the reason it came off the end of the glove was because of the non-chalance. Cano was certain that he had it (not getting on him about it – but it’s true).
Had Morse played perfectly up the middle. It was an error.
That was NOT a hit. Home-cooking much?
squeezed
Umm, did Leiter just intimate that he thought Mantle played in the Nats’ stadium?
those should be unearned runs
How the hell did that ball go so far?
You should not give up a hit to Jesus Flores, Andy
Check that bat for cork!
giving up a 2 out hit with the pitcher on deck is literally the worst thing ever.
Giving up a 2-out run scoring EBH to the pitcher would’ve been worse. And it almost happened.
I’m really hoping the Yanks can score runs for Andy today. Zimmerman is a good pitcher but he’s no Verlander (who we crushed twice I might add).
Wahhh!!!!!!!thisgameisover!!!NEVERMAKINGTHEPLAYOFFS!!!!FIREGIRARDI!!!!TOMANYHOMERS!!!!IBLAMEAROD!!!!!!!!!
I know you’re being sarcastic but Jesus Flores?!!!!!
That’s a bad sign
Didn’t he go 2-3 last night?
Yes and I was pissed off about that too. He’s a backup catcher who was hitting in the .240s
My point being allowing a shitty hitter to reach base doesn’t mean you’re going to loose, it’s just incredibly frustrating.
Except in that game he didn’t drive in any runs. In this game he has
I blame A-Rod. because it’s popular and trendy.
If Cano and Ibanez weren’t such lazy fucks they wouldn’t have scored that inning.
Jason Bay thinks you should leave Ibanez off the list as shown by last night
Cano yes, no way Ibanez can catch that.
What? I’m pretty sure every outfielder except Ibanez catches that. If he’s standing on the track it lands in his glove but he didn’t want to get near the wall for some reason.
Sterling said it was ripped way over his head and off the wall, leaving him no chance to catch it.
Of course, now with this debate, I have no idea what to think about it.
Sterling has no idea what he’s talking about. All Ibanez had to do was get neat the wall, which he had time to do, and it would have landed in his glove.
Andy Pettitte being at the plate must always be accompanied by this:
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......id=7106821
Leiter just said the bunt was successful in keeping out of the double play…isn’t the bunt more to put a runner in scoring position or is he just knowing that Jeter is on deck and would probably hit into a DP?
Hah at that shitty luck.
tie it up Grandy
That fourth pitch was literally right down the middle.
Kenny said it best. The shaking off by Zimmerman fooled Grandy
I want to watch a live TV game. Can they go back out west? lol
Great AB by Grandy. Make him pay Tex.
Teixeira any type of hit here would be appreciated.
looks like the lefties are starting to pick up that inside slider better
Yankees are hitting some bombs – just too quickly to keep them fair.
I just pulled up the field view of the ball park…what the fuck is going on out in left center?
like seriously…so many unnecessary corners.
Teixeira is an asshole. Easily my least favorite player.
Cant blame Tex there. That was a great pitch.
And it wasn’t in the strike zone.
Wow, you just hate everybody huh? Ibanez and Cano are lazy, CC isn’t an ace, A-Rod sucks, and Tex is an asshole. Why exactly do you root for this team again?
When have I said anything bad about A-Rod? I say ‘CC is not an ace’ because it’s a meme. Maybe you should check your sarcasm detector. Cano is my favorite player. No, I don’t like Ibanez and Teixeira. But you can piss off.
Sorry, sarcasm is hard to read over the internet. I though you were serious about the CC stuff, and I’ve got you confused with Stuart A. That dude hates Alex. Still though, hating on Ibanez? If it wasn’t for Gardner getting hurt we’d be talking about how great he’s been as the DH.
I love A-Rod. It’s always been easy to root for him due to the irrational hatred he receives from half the fanbase. I don’t like Teixeira, Ibanez, and Soriano, but I don’t think I’m the only one that dislikes certain players on the team. Sorry for the outburst, I could have explained myself better.
It’s ok, I kind of jumped you. I understand disliking Tex, he’s been just barely above average and being payed to be elite, I also understand disliking Soriano, I personally haven’t like him since a game last season were he blew off the media after giving up a lead (man up). Raul Ibanez hate I don’t get, dude’s been great at the plate for us and going above and beyond what he was brought into do by playing the outfield (and not terribly at that).
Meh. I just hope he opts out after the season in pursuit of more than 1-14. Because we already have a plethora of late-inning arms.
I am semi-grateful for him this season though…with the whole Mariano sadness, and Robertson getting hurt. Even though I dislike him, he’s been very effective.
What for taking a backdoor slider that, if it was a strike, barely scraped the black (as evidenced by the catcher’s contortions with the mitt to bring it back to the corner).
For having a 109 wRC+ (and decreasing) despite making 23 million dollars.
Oh, well, yeah. OK.
He’s just a boring, dull, dumb athlete. I doubt he’s a dick (but everyone’s a dick at some point).
Good pitch. Slider on the outside corner. WE may be in some trouble
Not a strike.
Think that last pitch was a ball.
That huge difference in Zimmerman’s BAA has to correct itself some time.
Flores framed it very well
Also I hate how the ump took his sweet time calling that 3rd strike.
Way to close to take…
too*
lefties are killing Harper this series with the soft stuff
Wow…our lefties have made Harper look like 19yr old rookie.
I’m really going to be pissed if the difference in this game is going to be a broken bat double by a shitty number 8 hitter in Jesus Flores
Dude, it’s the 3rd inning.
yup, just gotta get Zimmerman out of this game and get into that lolpen
I know. Plenty of time. I was just saying if this score holds up, I’m going to be pissed more.
Is Harper susceptible to breaking pitches from left-handed pitchers? Starting to look that way based upon Rapada and Pettitte.
That’s what I wondered after yesterday against Rapada, but he actually has a reverse split and has killed lefties. Maybe NL lefties aren’t throwing as many breaking balls, maybe it’s a sample size issue. I don’t know.
I feel like this was a good matchup for A-Rod to play today.
Nah. Zimmerman would have peppered him inside with fastballs.
Who’s to say A-Rod wouldn’t have gotten a hit?
Who’s to say he would’ve?
YCPB!!!!!!!! GOD!
wow…where did that pitch miss?
If you are going to give Zimmerman the slider outside…
That walk to Zimmerman after that 3rd strike to Tex is ridiculous.
old man Chavez still has some ups
Ok, is it pronounced ChAvez or Chevez? because each radio broadcast is saying it differently and I’ve been saying ChAvez my entire life.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/.....P78394.DTL
now I’m more confused cause he doesn’t even know lol
I’m pretty sure Singleton alone has at least 3 pronunciations for him
Just make sure you don’t ask Singleton how to pronounce Shin-Soo Choo.
It is pronounced ‘Mis-ter Glass’
Baseball and a Wallflowers concert?!?! I want to go to the Nationals/Braves game in July!!!
Anyone think Cano is swinging and missing more this year or is it just me?
1928, 1932, 1936, 1952, 1956, 1996 and 2000.
Presidents elected in those years were Hoover, FDR, FDR, Ike, Ike, Clinton and Dubya.
Interesting factoid: The Yankees have not won the World Series with a sitting Republican president since 1958. This is probably what cost them in 1960, 1976, 1981, 2001, and 2003.
Correlation is not causation.
A joke is a joke.
Romney 2012Yankees also won the World Series the last six times Kentucky basketball won the NCAAs.
Yes, a friend of mine who is a big Kentucky fan will be held accountable if the Yankees don’t win this year. He’s on notice.
that 1-0 pitch to Swish is definitely not a strike
Wow. Ump making blatant bad strike calls now.
lol second strike to Swisher.
er, first strike
this ump is starting to annoy me
Ump definitely a Nats fan.
That’s bs. should be same rule as infield fly
not that it would matter in this case
Cano, HALFWAY! Just in case that happens! HALFWAY!!!!!!
Eh, tough call…he moved back towards second as the ball hit Nady’s glove. He can’t get doubled off there, and if he was halfway at that point he easily could have been. Tough read.
How slow is Cano?
Holy shit.
One of the knocks against him. Slow on base paths and shitty range compared to other 2nd basemen (Kinsler, Phillips, Kendrick).
Replay showed that he moved back towards second, those two lengths made the difference.
sigh
Wow, two things: Lots of Yankee fans at the ball park, and The Nats are dying to give us this game back! Let’s take it back.
Just dying to let us win this.
I’m surprised they’re pitching to Chavez with Andy on deck
makes sense…if you get Chavez here then You have Andy lead off the 5th.
Thanks, Ian.
I love when other teams give us free runs
I’ll take it!
E-an Desmond
These fielders are almost as bad as the Rays
dont they realize that Pettitte is on deck
Zimmerman’s pitch count
1st and 2nd inning: 23 Ptiches
3rd-now:53
Ah. This brings me back to the days when teams in the AL actually had bad defense and would make rally starting errors. #NLbaseball
I hate NL baseball. We’d at least have a Martin up in this scenario, instead a pitcher…
The pitcher batting is the least logical thing in the world to me. Can a 3rd baseman pitch 7 innings? No! So why in the world is a pitcher hitting?
Well, when you think about it, if the DH never existed we’d probably scoff at the idea. Why shouldn’t a player on the field bat? But since the DH does exist, and half the league and all minor league teams use it, why should the NL?
why shouldn’t* the NL
at least we cleared him
We should mash third time through the order. Zimmerman isn’t long for this game if we get a couple runners on and in next inning.
I can’t believe that the team would let any players on one of those scooters.
This ump can eat a dick.
/Boondocks’d
coming back soon!
It’s time to swing for the fences this next inning. #toomanyhomers
I’m pretty sure the opposite of Natitude is Nadytude. He’s terrible.
The ump is just itching to call strikes against the Yanks.
I think we’re due for a Jeter HR.
Wow, just checked the upcoming weather. It’s going to be in the mid to upper 90s Wednesday and Thursday.
Yikes.
This is why Jeter doesn’t hit line drives.
They all get caught.
http://4milhoras.files.wordpre.....per-fu.jpg
Nadytude
Completely off topic: last week I mentioned I was reading and enjoying World War Z and somebody suggested a book, I forget who it was and the name of the book…I’ve finished World War Z so help someone!
Was it Zone One?
Nice catch Espinosa.
Teixeira again. Don’t worry you guys, he’ll just mention his RBI total.
We should trade Teixeira for Brandon Belt.
Nah, Steve Pearce.
/DuhInnings’d
So really liking the National’s play-by-play guy. I can’t wait for Sterling to retire, nothing against the guy but his stuff is just played out…
One more inning for Zimmerman.
Andy should have chucked that bat at Zimmerman.
Oops, I mean, in the direction of Zimmerman.
When life gives you Clemens…
6-4-3 double play would be nice here, come on Andy
Always a good idea to let two shitty hitters get on in front of their best hitter.
The ump has been beyond horrible.
Book on Bryce Harper: cannot hit the harder off speed stuff, at least coming out of AP’s hand.
Sit down son.
Bear down Andy.
I love Bryce’s crazy mannerisms
Andy is padding his whiff rate with Harper’s ABs
Bryce is clearly helping his childhood favorite team (and future team).
Dear Bryce Harper, you have six years or so to learn how to hit that pitch before joining the Yankees.
Bryce Harper meet fututre HOF Andy Pettitte.
At this pitch rate, Andy should be able to pitch at least into the 8th. However, because 1. We need runs 2. He’s due up within the next inning or two.
So, if I said Andy seems to be somewhat outpitching Zimmerman, but luck and umpiring at the margins has tilted the game Zimmerman’s way, would there be general agreement?
holy swish!
reply fail
Zimmerman is facing a tougher lineup, but Andy has pitched fine.
To answer your question — I don’t like to worry about umpires, but luck has certainly been Zimmerman’s way. No question Pettitte has been outpitching him. The pitch count tells the whole story. 66-94
Nats D always this bad?
2nd/3rd, 0 out.
Time to get the lead, gentlemen. That is – don’t fuck this up.
It’s time Ibanez. Show it.
I’ll take a productive out.
Eh, we’ll take it.
The Nats PBP guy just said the ratio of Nats fans to Yankees fans was 4 to 1.
An out, and worse, is Swish hurt?
Injury to insult. Lovely.
fuck. swish looks hurt
I hope nothing good ever happens to Jordan Zimmermann. Way to spell your name wrong also asshole.
What’s with the Jordan Zimmerman hate? I don’t understand it.
Dammit Russ!
Let’s go Chavy, make it a moot point.
I swear, I’ve never seen that contact play work.
fuck you good defensive pitcher.
FUCK YEAH CHAVEY!!!!!
Chavy!! huge hit in front of Pettitte to get Martin in
Eric Clutch-ez
way to make em pay, Chavy
yay !
Wow, great piece of hitting there…
Chavy Beisbol!
Four of the five runs today have been scored with the #8 hitter, with two outs.
Yikes at that. NL Baseball FTW.
You can’t predict baseball!
Based on that last play, the Nats announcer may want to take back that 4-1 Nats fan to Yankee fan statement.
Not gonna lie, I thought Andy hit one into the gap there.
That Chavez sucks at baseball; Ramiro Pena would’ve been much better.
Ramiro Pena once hit a home run against a team that won the AL Pennant.
True story.
It was actually a Grand Slam, for his 5th Homer of the game, and completing the cycle.
That home run against the Rangers last year was awesome. We went 7-2 against those bastards last year. I really wanted to face them in the ALDS with the way we mashed left handed pitching that year.
I don’t think the Game 5 disappointment will begin to dissipate from my mind until the Yankees win a playoff series.
And it was made worse since the Tigers upset the Yankees in 2006 as well, in both cases the Yankees having had the best record in the AL. Unlike 2010, the Yankees would’ve had home field against Texas. Nova or no Nova, the opportunity was there.
Isn’t it funny how the Cardinals are always in the World Series in years where the Yankees seemingly missed their chance?
Take THAT National League baseball.
Pettitte failed with RISP? Choker.
It would have been funny if a pitcher who hasn’t batted in years and is 40-years-old turned out to be the guy who could get a RISP hit.
Yeah, I thought Andy got a RBI there. Which is awesome even though he didn’t.
Off topic: FUCK BEES!
+1. Bees can go fuck themselves.
who gonna make teh honey?
Remember when Ted Nelson went on and on about how Nick Punto was much better than Chavez.
Punto is much grittier.
Well, it’s probably possible that it could likely be that Punto might be somewhat better at certain times — if you carry the 4 and divide by 7, and ignore how he actually plays.
Right when Swisher was starting to heat up…Damn.
I’m no doctor, but didn’t look serious.
I don’t think, and really hoping, that injury to Swisher is serious. Probably just a bruise. Could see him back tomorrow. Of course, I had a similar reaction when Brett Gardner dived for the ball in left.
wait Swish got hurt? the Nationals guys didn’t say anything….what happened?
Sliding into home plate.
He limped off the field.
Fuck. Hopefully he just turned his ankle weird and he’ll be ok. Is he in the field?
No he was pulled for Jones. The catcher kneed him in the thigh.
Damn…fingers crossed that it’s just a bruise and he’ll be fine in a day or two.
No, Jones is in.
Tyler Moore has been a pain in the ass.
Mary? She was ok.
I resisted the urge to put a “(Mary) Tyler Moore” phrase there.
Sorry I couldn’t show equal restraint, Bro.
Upon review, my comment doesn’t sound like it was intended.
It’s all in good humour.
I spell humour like a Brit too.
Brian S, I’ve got a question for you, and your answer will decide whether I like you or not. I know you dislike Tex, and even understand why you do, BUT do you dislike him to the point where you root for him to make out?
I root for him to produce in close games. I don’t like to see him pad his stats in blowouts like I do Cano, Rodriguez, Granderson etc.
Fair enough. I hate most A-Rod haters because regardless of situation they seem to root for him to fail so they can say “SEE I TOLD YOU HE’S GARBAGE.”
For sure. I mean, in a game like this I want him to hit a home run every time he’s at the plate. And I agree it’s really annoying when people get on A-Rod for every out he makes. Like the stadium booing him for working an 11-pitch at bat against Price.
Seriously, I understand he’s over paid like no other, but it’s not his fault that Hank threw the Treasury of a decent sized country at him with out any negotiation. What’s he supposed to say, no no I’m not worth that, pay me less.
I just hope A-Rod can stay as productive as he is through 2014. His salary decreases to around 21-20 mil his last four years and the Yankees can probably take that hit with a 200 million dollar payroll (because 189 is only for one year right?)
2, actually.
lol. Actually three. We were both wrong. If he’s not that good 2015-2017 because of age we could still manage that with a huge payroll.
And another line drive out for Jeter.
Let’s go Robbie. He hasn’t hit a home run in a cool minute.
It would be nice if Andy could go 8 and we could skip David for today. I’d rather ease him in a little more.
He can go 7, Wade/Logan can pitch the 8th, Soriano the 9th.
Well, there goes that.
Nats MASN music >> O’s MASN music.
And the O’s theme isn’t even bad. The Nats just kick ass.
It’s funny that the Orioles own so much more of MASN but everything about their broadcasts is worse.
Dunno.
Maybe Gary Thorne becomes grating in a local broadcasts, but in general I’ve always loved listening to him call games. His call that ended the Red Sox 2011 season is permanently etched on speed-play on my phone.
“That is into right field…and NO IT’S TRAPPED!!!!”
Even though it was into left field.
Small error in the wave of greatness.
Just turned down two bleacher seats at Wrigley tonight. Why go watch a team I hate play a team that sucks?
so many broken bat hits wtf
Mo is with us in spirit.
oooh, that was close.
With Zimmermann, Morse coming up do you put in Wade? Or let Andy keep going?
nobody stealing range points from grandy today.
We still need a home run. The streak must be kept alive!
3/4/5 this inning for Washington.
If this can be navigated, the Yankees should be in good shape.
How many pitches was Andy at?
95.
I know the righties were coming up, but I would have left Pettitte in, especially since Desmond just launched a shot to tie the game.
Thanks for hitting the ball to right field, Ryan.
Got to see that sweet ad that pimps my namesake.
damn come on Cory….
Are you kidding me Wade
Fuckin’ two strike/two out home run.
Shit.
Wade is not an ace.
Good call.
A fastball in a 2-2 count when you have a good slider/Curve and great change up.
So damn stupid.
After the first pitch (which he was obviously going to take), he shouldn’t have seen a single fastball.
Just poor pitch calling by Martin and Wade.
The only problem with Cory Wade…
He’s given up a shitload of home runs recently.
I think the magic is starting to wear a little bit on Wade.
The binder should now include “don’t pitch Wade on the road”
Since when is wade an 8th inning guy.
Shouldn’t even matter, stupid offense has been eh all game long.
Don’t blame this one on Wade. The Yanks had a billion chances to score more runs but nothing.
I never blame the pitcher giving up runs. I blame the hitter for hitting a meatball out of the park.
I don’t understand why Wade came in.
teh matchups.
Why is Jordan Zimmerman the only pitcher that gets the outside strike?
Its the power of the second “n.”
So why not Robertson?
I mean instead of Wade
Doesn’t matter if the offense had chances. That means they didn’t do their job. Wade is part of the bullpen, their job is to hold the lead, so yes he didnt do his job, still his fault for throwing a meat ball with 2 strikes and 2 outs .
Come on, Joe. You actually managed in the NL.
A-Rods not coming in for one inning cause of why?
He can pinch hit for Chavez to lead off the inning.
The only thing I could think of just now with all the confusion is “Who’s on first?”… LOL
our defense catchers aren’t great defensively.
lol
Pitch framing is the only thing the organization cares about. And if you ask Dave Cameron throwing out runners is overrated.
NL baseball is stupid.
Wise!!! great play.
FUCK YEAH DWAYNE WISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck you Moore. Also fuck you Boone for allowing the hit.
Think he might have beaten it.
Ah, yep replay says he was safe. Great throw though. Makes up for the odd flurry of broken bat singles.
Nice, although I really wish Pettitte pitched that inning.
Nice, although I really wish Pettitte pitched that inning.
Well the 3 righties that were due up were a combined 1 for 9 with a weak single against Andy. And at 95 pitches he clearly looked gassed…
Got to play the platoon advantage? (or be a slave to it?)
Great job Logan- you just got bailed out.
Thanks ump.
Wow. He was very safe.
But binder win!
He was safe. I guess the umpire needed to make up for all those blown strike calls from earlier.
I love you Dwayne Wise.
Yes, but Chris Dickerson…
…remains a better baseball player in almost, if not every, way.
embedded Yankee Tyler Clippard better help us out in the 9th
Russell!!!!!
(Way to sell that swipe!)
I’m dying in my studio today. No, the other kind of dying. How are all of hue?
To those at the game: I rejoice in your good fortune.
punny
Crush clippard please. He’s a fucking tool.
How do you come up with that belief?
He’s just anti-goggles.
He’s an ANTI-GOGITE!!
Must be. I don’t know Clippard personally – nor do I believe “Widget” does either – but I haven’t read anything that suggests he’s a “tool.”
Whoops, “either” is redundant. Carry on.
I thought he was out, but replay shows he was clearly safe.
Surprised the ump missed that. He was right on top of that play.
Wow, they didn’t even make a big deal about the blown call on Nationals Radio. Imagine the uproar Sox broadcasters?
If it was radio, maybe they didn’t see the replay immediately.
It’s radio, but even after the inning and they came back and said “well it took multiple replays and a freeze fame for us to see it, but he was safe.” and that was it.
They don’t get the drama on radio of showing it over and over again as they do on TV. Not sure what Sterling and Co. do in those situations for the Yankees.
What a horrible call. That means a walk off for the Nats.
C’mon boys, lets get the lead here and close this out. I’ve got to go to work.
Where the hell do you work that you have to work on a Saturday.
A restaurant in the busiest casino in the south-east.
Are you like on a riverboat?
That was a really really good AB by Chavez.
Abeledejo is in their ‘pen too?
Does HE qualify as an embedded Yankee?
He’s not on the Nats.
Hmmm.
I wonder why they mentioned him. lol I might be hearing things though.
They mentioned the trade of him for Clippard.
Ahhhhhhh.
Well there you go.
Thankee.
Of course he does. The Nationals have 3 embedded spies and a future Yankee on their team.
CMW, Clippard, Nady, and Strasberg!
Ok, two future Yankees, cause I was thinking Harper.
In before the Nats crew uses that blown call to suggest a league wide conspiracy to make the Yankees win.
They’ve been good so far, I’m hoping they’re above that.
Who is this umpire? He’s blowing everything on both sides.
His name is Exhibit A For Why Robots Should Replace Umpires.
That strike call was insane. This is a horribly called game.
Meanwhile, “DE-REK JE-TER” chant is alive and well….and audible on the broadcast.
Today is my Grandmas birthday. He favorite player is Granderson.
He has to go deep today for her.
‘For’ or ‘in’?
Swung at ball four. ‘Captain Clutch’
This.
His numbers are good this year, but his ability to be clutch is still lacking greatly. His strikeouts are frustrating.
Double play Derek also seems to find his way into games when we need something.
And Jeter continues to suck.
It’s your grandmother’s fault.
lol
Well, he’d already taken 4-5 balls in that AB.
Let’s keep the HR-win streak alive.
HR incoming
Tex won’t come through.
He never does. Except that one time against the Mets.
Teixeira sucks ass.
Horrible.
…..Natitude.
That would make me hate any other team that wasn’t the Yankees.
What is Natitude?
or is it phrased a Natitude? Is it an adjective? A Noun? I’m confused…
pretty sure it is a noun
Festive mood we’re having today.
I get the feeling that after a liberal zone in the top of the 9th, the zone is going to shrivel in the bottom of the 9th.
That 2-0 call really changed the entire inning. If Jeter ends up walking, Granderson is pitched to different and Cano might bat in the inning.
You can bet ESPN won’t show that. But they’ll make a big deal about the blown play at the plate.
To be fair, that play at the plate was horribly missed. Nats fans would have a ligit reason to gripe if the Yankees win.
The umpire has been calling strikes in the Nats favor by a large margin today. I’m willing to bet with a more neutral zone they score more than three runs.
True, true.
We really need to set them down 1-2-3. Don’t want Harper to get to hit.
He’s going to have to hit regardless next inning.
Welcome to away games.
Now we have a chance to get the lead though.
Chavez is playing like a fucking champ today
Chavez is still the man at third, and Tex is great at 1st.
He’s had a nice game — but he’s no Nick Punto.
Nick Punto would have turned a double play on that grounder.
Can Cano run hard for once? For the talent he has, you’d think his lazy ass would actually hustle.
He wasn’t going to beat that out…
It doesn’t matter. If he actually ran out of the box instead of always jogging like the lazy fuck he is he may have. He might have forced a rushed throw from Espinosa instead.
Who plays the outfield now?
Nevermind, that was the pitcher’s spot.
Wise, Grandy, Nix. Probably double switch and put A-Rod at 3rd.
Right when you think Cano is starting to develop plate discipline he goes and swings at ball four.
ARod, hitless as a pinch hitter for his career.
Ryan Zimmerman is going to turn his season around right here.
I’d much rather have Bryce Harper beat us, but I believe we’re going to win. Because you know, I’m a YANKEE FAN.
Toss him ump.
Yankees making Harper look, dare I say, 19.
Harper shoulda been tossed.
To close to take there Harper, as well as Nationals Radio crew.
WHAT THE FUCK IS NATITUDE?!?!?! I’m really starting to dislike the Nationals.
I blame the Red Sox and their stupid fucking Red Sox Nation bullshit. Every stupid team tries to come up with some sort of stupid slogan to show your fanboishness. Nats fans all have NATITUDE!!!!!!
wow. I even think ‘The Yankee Universe’ is stupid.
Just be a Nationals fan, don’t have Natitue.
Just be a Red Sox fan, don’t be a member of Red Sox Nation
Just be a Yankee Fan, Don’t be a member of Yankees Universe.
We got this. The Nationals announcers are jinxing them.
good job by Eppley, now he can go another inning if needed
big inning here, please. i’m missing point break.
DVR lol.
Joe’s burning through his bench and bullpen. What do we have, another inning of Eppley and then its Freddy time?
I’d hope they use Soriano before Freddy.
If the Yankees don’t take the lead, I’m not sure Joe will. He won’t want Soriano to go 2 innings.
We also have these guys, Robertson and Soriano, maybe you’ve heard of them, they’re quite good.
Doesn’t appear Joe wants to use Robertson back-to-back, and he’s saving Soriano for a lead.
Everyday Eppley
Mr. Torre would have loved this guy.
The Rangers have given away so many great bullpen arms. They are great at developing them.
How is that RAB postgame party going to be after 20 innings?
Haha, they’re all going to be falling asleep into their beers.
please god no Freddy
No Kay, you don’t hold Soriano until you get a lead.
I think you at least go to Robertson first, I know he’s just off the DL and all, but I think he still goes there first.
Just stay away from Freddy at all costs.
It’s gonna suck if Eppley has to get sent down for a fresh arm.
I could swear Kay just George Zimmermann, not Jordan Zimmermann.
Russ needs to foul that off and work a walk. All he ever does is ground to third.
jesus christ shut the fuck up
Naw
Old Chavez goes yard on that swing
Old Chavez wouldn’t be playing for the Yankees
Zimmerman, die with fire.
That first play was nice and he is a tremeendous defensive player, but I don’t think the MASN announcers (I’m watching the MLB Network feed) really understand what he is doing.
He comes up late with the glove (which is smart because if the ball skips his glove is already down), which means he is snapping his glove up on most groundballs hit to his left and it makes the play look harder than it really is.
The last grounder was fairly routine but when he snap the glove up it makes it look like a lot tougher play (or makes it seem like it took a tough hop).
I’m not liking how this game is developing.
Oh well. Freddy = Time to start a new streak.
Freddy will throw three scoreless as we win in 14.
Yeah and Scott Podsednik will hit 20 jacks for Boston this year.
so close
I Think Garcia goes before Epply does. I hope.
Eppley looks nasty out there.
I’m okay with that.
Attention offense: Score some fucking runs.
Signed,
Your fans.
#cosign
ah man, the winning run on base.. Come on Eppley, keep ur magic going, please!! Ahead 1-2..
Cody Kimbrel
Jeter/Granderson/Teixeira
Hitless
No wonder they only scored three fucking runs in 11 innings.
Even though he was 0-2 to LaRouche, that was a good walk by Eppley… you don’t give in at all and if he chases great, if not you deal with the next hitter.
I wish Martin had used that logic with Wade in the 8th inning and not allowed Wade to throw a fastball.
It’s not Martin’s fault, the bullpen’s won way too many games that they should have lost lately. They were going to fold sooner or later.
Cody Epply, you will all bow before him.
Lets get a hit here boys.. Haven’t seen to many of those today. They keep spittting solid relievers at us left and right.. Hopefully we get to one of these guys
We haven’t seen one from the top of the order.
BA RISP>>>>
end the story
pettitte looks great…
wade 4 homers on the season, his only issue.
Where’d you go after A-Rod hit that grand slam against the Braves? You didn’t come back.
The Nats bullpen hasn’t allowed a hit.
C’mon guys, Garcia looms
Who would have thought that Soriano would be the overwhelming favorite choice out of that bullpen combo.
Jesus, I didn’t know Craig Stamen was still in baseball.
And that was just fucking pathetic.
E5, stud.
come on Robbie. make them pay.
I’ve been waiting for one of those Zimmerman throws to sail on him..lol
lol at this
That’s the closest thing Teixeira’s going to see to a hit today.
I’d rather have CC or Hiroki up there than Stewart.
NL baseball is the fucking worst.
no lie. having the pitcher hit like it’s the 1920′s or something.
Where are the CC Sabathias?????///
Please get a hit, I need to go look at pretty girls.
I’d go CC as the PH (only partially kidding)
Stewart is keeping the homer streak alive.
we need a hit badly here
Yeah if they don’t score now the Nats will likely take it against Garcia if they don’t get it against Soriano.
Wow, and to think I would rather have Cervo now.
fist pumps!
Has the ump been calling that all night?
Stewie come on buddy.
great now no more pinch hitters
too bad Swisher is out of the game, we might need him to pitch
When u get to guys like Wise, Nix, Stewart all in the lineup, its just not looking good… Were not even getting any type of hits at all.. Were in trouble in this one.. Losing Swisher really stung… Who didn’t know stewart was gonna k? I still don’t get why we didn’t just let Cervelli be our backup Catcher, hes fine defensivley, and a much better hitter, albeit, not great, but decent..
Cervelli, despite his billing as a defensive catcher, was terrible. Don’t you remember? Not that Stewart has wowed or anything.
I know what Girardi is going to do here….
But you have to pitch Soriano first and then let Garcia finish it out. You don’t save your best pitcher in the pen for a lead that may not come.
I’d rather ask Garcia to hold a lead then post a zero to keep the game going, and I never understood why managers save their closer on the road.
Game ends here….7 in a row was awesome tho!
Oh shit, Freddy is up. Ugh, game is over. And I’m an optimist.
brian I was out the last few days. arod still sucks. look at his slugging % like a weak hitting 2nd baseman.
arod is on pace for less then 80 rbi’s, if that is great I am guilty as charged.
yanks will not score today if this game goes until tommorrow….
I was going to go off on you then I remembered what I said a couple days ago, when you vanished right after Alex hit a homer. You’re probably the same guy who was bashing Alex before 09 saying no matter how good his numbers are he’s garbage because he doesn’t hit in the playoffs. There is literally nothing A-rod could do to make you happy, and their is nothing we can do or say to change your mind about this.
+1
a rational reply to irrational thinking. admirable, but surely a waste of time.
Yankees are pathetic!
Garcia has pitched little of late. Let’s hope the wheels don’t come off the track.
Freddy Garcia=waving the white flag. Robertson is a professional athlete that has been cleared by team doctors to resume NORMAL BASEBALL ACTIVITY for him that includes pitching on back to back days. In a perfect world would it be good ease him back in? Yes. But this isn’t a perfect world.
One interleague game in the midsts of a 7 game winning streak is not worth throwing Drob back out there. Long term thinking is important. If no Freddy now, he shouldn’t be on the team.
He shouldn’t be on the team as far as I’m concerned. He was great for us last year but he’s been completely useless since game one this season.
Oh man, Freddie makes me sweat bullets.
it’s like watching someone try to disarm a bomb in an action movie. you just never know when he’s gonna cut the wrong wire and blow everything up.
Are my eyes deceiving me? Has Freddy just gotten two outs?
Someone should pull up the PitchFx on the strike zone. During Lombardozzi’s at bat, one clear strike was called a ball and one obvious ball was a strike. This follows the game pattern of seemingly random strike and ball calls.
Was not expecting that.
platinum sombrero!
Did that just happen?
DONT FUCK WITH FREDDY
Hey Bryce tell me how that Yankee ass tastes?
Neither team wants to see the RABers drink after the game…
why would you leave in the 13th? no such thing as too much baseball
Just got back here. Cory Wade deserves to be punished. First off, your fastball is your secondary pitch at only 89-90 mph. Why in the world would you throw it there. And second off the location was absolutely horrific.
Oh jeez, let it go.
No because I didn’t get a chance to comment on it yet and it might have just cost us a game
You could argue we should have lost the game on the blown call at home.
Should Wade have thrown that pitch and there? No, as you said, not the best strategic decision. But in due time you’ll come to learn that mistakes happen, they suck, and you move forward.
I know, but I needed to get that off my chest.
He’s horrible on the road
In all fairness to Wade though, he really should have had more than a 1 run lead to work with. RISPFAIL+Shitty Ump+Terrible Luck=this…
Doesn’t matter. It was stupid pitch selection combining with horrible location.
Fire Girardi.
Fire Hal!
Um…I’m in shock. like did that just happen? Did that really just happen? 0-6 w/ 5Ks, one of them against Freddy Garcia. Talk about a bad day at this office.
arod stinks look at his stats. the guy is on pace for 70 rbi’s.. the old arod was great that guy is long gone…
arod is a slap hitter. the last week the guy has hit 4 bleeders to 2nd..
And A Grandslam to tie The Iron Horse on the all time list, also to tie the game.
Oh and the stats say that he’s the 5th best 3rd Baseman according to wRC+, and third according to wOBA
and only 3 3rd baseman have more homeruns, and one of them is Miggy Cabrera who is as much of a third baseman as Nunez is a left fielder.
Stop using stats that mean things! RBI’s!
Thank you for reminding me why I never come along here anymore…
Isn’t it your nap time?
wades homers he has given up have hurt big time. he is pitching in the 7th or later so when he gives them up it hurts….
stuart a is beyond pathetic!
Freddy can pitch till the 18th.
We got this.
Washington bullpen throwing a 7 inning no hitter so far…
Might want to get back to a disciplined approach that they’ve had against the Nat starters… Stammen is averaging 13 pitches an inning.
Clippard threw over 20 in his inning…
To be fair, the Yankees had 5 walks against the bullpen
Jeter needs 3 days off.
thats some sucky D
Dammit Nunez!
wow, there really is something to us not hitting a HR and losing.. This one just seems like to many of our scrubs in there to pull it out.. And now u got Jeter making a error, we haven’t got but 5hits, and i can’t even remember the last hit we got.. This ones gonna end here soon…
Wow, Rick Ankiel reduced to pinch hit bunting…sad.
That’s interesting. Wasting Ankiel to bunt
Damn it Jeter and does it have to be Zimmerman that gets on and then fucking Ian Desmond that gets the game winning hit? Gross
come ON. just make it to lidge.
This.
I got a bad feeling about this bernadina at abat… Hope i’m wrong
Yankees don’t deserve to win this game.
and you don’t deserve to waste other’s oxygen or bandwidth, sometimes people get what they don’t deserve.
Go jump off a bridge faggot!
OH, OW, Faggot. I’m so hurt. I’m actually going to go jump off a bridge…please tell me you didn’t mean it. I have feels, and they are hurting…
come on Sweaty, I was kidding about saying you were terrible, you’re not…
Realllllllllllllly?
lol this game is getting ridiculous
Who do the Nats have left in the pen? Gorzelanny and Lidge?
Gonzalez
Wow, Garcia just made a lot of Yankees fans feel pretty stupid…
Me among them. I still don’t think he deserves to be on the roster, but I’m happy he’s getting outs like this.
Hey, can’t argue with success, right?
Admittedly, Garcia clearly didn’t have it this year as a starter, but of late he’s been passable as a long man/mop-up man.
I like the idea of Phelps being stretched out in the minors in case we need an emergency starter, so I wouldn’t give Garcia’s spot to him now.
Who — from within the organization — would you replace Garcia with? I don’t think another signing for someone in Garcia’s current role is a good idea.
You’re right, I know you’re right…but I hate the idea of having a terrible pitcher wasting a spot in the bullpen.
Come on. Keep getting chances like this?! Score 3 here!!!
wow, we got through 2scoreless with Garcia..lol Now if we can only add to our total of 5hits through 13innings, we’ll be on to something… We need a blast!!
Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle is a pathetic faggot! Go suck a brick pathetic queer!
I’ve really never been more hurt, ow my feelings…they’re so distraught. I have no idea what I’m going to do with myself…somebody called me a faggot, and a queer online…OH NOES
seriously, how is there not a rage comic for this?!
Seriously though, How does one Suck a brick?
1. Bricks are huge, I think it’d be very hard to even fit one in my mouth
2. They have very jagged corners, I mean that could really fuck up one’s mouth.
And the grout can really screw up dental work.
Do not ask me how I have come by this expensive knowledge. It’s not a pretty story.
That’s probably your last comment here ever. Hope it was worth it.
I really hope he doesn’t get banned…this is so much fun. What if I ask Mike to not ban him, I mean I was the target of the attack…what if I refuse to press charges?
I always find it difficult to understand how people this stupid get out of bed without seriously injuring themselves.
shows how bad 3rd baseman are.. zimmerman has 3 homers and a 315 obp.. is that good? the arod idol worshipers. arod’s #’s are horrible……
Lidge, we will definitely score here
Now Jeter bunts and I approve of this given his day
We got our first hit in 7innings!!! Sweett!!!! Way to go Nix!!!
bunt. if he doesn’t you know it’s a GIDP if he doesn’t
oops, one too many “if he doesn’ts”
Which fun and awesome way can Jeter mess this up?
have a parade arod is better then; sean rodriuguez, a bad kevin youkilis, callaspa, seattles group of dreg, etc.
arod has been bad, real bad. nice guy bad performance end the story…
Did your mother have any kids that didn’t suffer massive head injuries? Shut up already.
Gidp right here
And he messed that up. Unbelievable
damn Jeter.. wtf
man, jeets with 0-6 at the plate, and a error, and didn’t get the sac bunt down.. Ouch.. Please don’t hit into a DP as well!
Id say without the bunt there is a 90% chance of this being a DP
I’m calling a base hit for Derek.
lol @ trolling the hottest team in baseball while tied in extras with the second hottest team in baseball. seriously. out loud.
Way to go Jason Nix!!! Hey now!!!
Well done Nix
excellent job by Nix. they have to get him in now.
Hooray me, I called a base hit
Now even a DP scores a run!!
Ya Jeets!!!!! PLease get this run in granderson!!!
RiSP quasi-win
Ok even a gidp scores a run
Score lots of runs here, please.
Just score 1. I feel confident enough in MFIKY w/ a 1 run lead…
wow that felt weird to type.
lets see how they choke with RISP this time
Guess not.
Good baserunning by Nix there… while it was going through the infield you have to hold up and make sure so you don’t get nailed at 3rd should the SS get there.
Come on Granderson…
God, i hope this dosen’t get left into Mark Texiera’s hands.. Please Granderson!!
I still stand by what I said before about your handle. Please change it…at least the capitalization of it.
Ugh. Cmon outfield fly.
Fuuuuuuck
Jeter should steal 2nd.
Pathetic hack… 91mph straight and right down the middle. What a choke job
Lidge snuck a fastball by him after feeding him sliders
send jeter to stay out of the double play?
Your turn Teixeira.
Jeter needs to steal here.
Come the fuck, just a goddamn flyball
Robot umps needed. Now.
It’s Brad Lidge. Come on jerks, get that damn run in.
Yesssssssssssssss
Clutch Teix!!!!
TEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUGE CLUTCH DOUBLE!!!!!
THERE WE GO
Tex the best.
Huzzah! Huzzah! Thank the lord the game didn’t get into Teixiera’s hands!
TEXXXXXX
TEIX!!! NICE!
Well, Tex surprised me! Well done!
TEIX! I DONT HATE YOU AT THE MOMENT!
Haha, I was going to ask how you felt about this…why in gods name is Garcia not bunting?
put CC in to bat. he can hit a fly ball.
Send up CC?
Thank you Brad Lidge for being Brad Lidge.
no more PH??
Really, if Garcia is not pitching the bottom of the inning, then why not let CC hit, since he probably is the best option.
Meh, last thing you want to happen is for CC to get a hit and get hurt on the bases…
Yeah probably true. But they probably could have found a better hitting pitcher than Garcia there.
The injury question is something to consider, and obviously Girardi did. I would have taken the risk for the one AB, but understand the reasoning. Of course, now that the Yankees have won, I don’t care!
CC should be hitting here. Stupid NL baseball!!!
Nice – Jeter running on the pitch got them an extra run and Tex to 3rd.
Ironically, that crap call on 1-0, may have helped the AB.
Everybody who wants to go to CC to hit, I got three words for you. Chien Ming Wang
Ive been trying to forget about that for years. Damn you for bringing that memory back up
Agreed. I don’t want CC touching a bat.
He was hurt running, not hitting..
He was hurt running the basis, after getting a hit, in a game that the Yankees had pretty much in the bag already…
Thought the game ended in a blowout, it was only 4-0 when he was trying to score (the 4th run scored on the same play right in front of him). Not in the bag at all.
Fine. Javier Vasquez two years ago missed a few starts because a pitch hit his finger
There you go. BTW, IM fine with him hitting but I can understand why people arent.
Could be 1st game we win without a HR? We shall see!
FUCK NL baseball
“And it’s not Mariano Rivera, it’s Rafael Soriano warming up to attempt the save for the Yankees.”
Right in the feels, Nationals Radio Guy…
CC could have done that too.
Also, bringing in a LOOGY for Wise??
I think it was more to get garbage Lidge out than to match up lefty lefty
And then CC pulls a muscle swinging and cant pitch the next start.
Have to think both Robertson and Soriano are unavailable?
And why not at least have him bunt with 2 strikes?
Soriano is warming up right now…why he wasn’t bunting to begin with is a mystery to me.
It didn’t matter in the end
No. Soriano is going to pitch the bottom of the inning
Soriano is available. Had to save him on the road. No bunt to see if Freddy could get a sac fly. Already had a 2-run lead.
Don’t know why Leiter and Kay were so surprised at not bunt. With runner on 3rd the right play is to see if Freddy can get a fly ball to outfield. Especially off that pathetic slider.
Maybe Girardi preferred the Lidge/Garcia match-up to the Gonzalez/CC one. Maybe he just preferred the Lidge/Fill-in-the-Blank match-up to anything else.
2-18 with RISP and 13 LOB.. this game shouldnt be close..
To quote Greg, because he’s absolutely right “Everybody who wants to go to CC to hit, I got three words for you. Chien Ming Wang”
If CC gets a hit, then PR for him. Tell him to not take an extra base unless he goes yard.
With who?
Maybe Kuroda? He ran the bases with the Dodgers in the NL.
And then he gets injured. Good idea!
Just because he gets on the bases doesn’t mean he’s going to get injured. Didn’t AJ PR last year?
the whole reason CC would’ve PH for Garcia was because there where no position players left, so if CC gets on your options for Pinch Runners were:
MFIKY
Robertson
Nova
Kuroda
Hughes
finish them MFIKY
everything up so far.. not good
No home runs.
As I type they post it on the broadcast.
we could use a defensive replacement for Mr. Statue Jeter
Grounder to short… never mind.
Oh Jesus. You can smell what’s coming.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
You knew it wasn’t going to be easy
This could suck
Really Soriano…You can’t make this easy…
He never makes it easy on us.. who do we have left on the pen?
Robertson, then the starters.
come on Soriano
Jesus Christ man. Yankees just don’t want to win this game.
Don’t let Harper get up.DP please!!
Soriano is such a bum! Even his out was scorched! Reminds me of the yr we had Phil Coke and His ERA said he was great, but in reailty, he had balls belted all yr long at people..
WE’ll be lucky if Soriano gets through this with the Save…
LoOkSlIkEyOuWeReWrOnGaGaIn.
He’s also 11-12 in Save oppurtunities this year. With almost a K per IP, and a 2.55FIP. God awful though.
Well, he does walk way too many. And I defy anyone to feel a great deal of confidence when he’s on the mound.
Shut the hell up Michael Kay.
One away…can the young gun go 0-7, with 6Ks? that would be priceless.
he missed his spot badly.. lucky that didnt end up worse
This kid is due, keep him in the park please
Yeah!!!!!!!!!
Nice job Sori! Great win
Fuck yes! No suspense thank you
Glad I’m an idiot. Great win.
Hahah fuck you doubters. I’d just like to say at no point did I expect the Yankees to loose this game.
No evil homers. Suck it ESPN.
Must suck to play your favorite team and watch as they own you all day long.
Nice win. Just wish they had left Pettitte in.
Eight straight!
If they had left him in this game would’ve been hours ago.
I agree. He definitely had another inning in him and they weren’t hitting him. Just overthinking the situation.
Not today Harper.
8!
now RAB goes on to drink!!!!!
built for the postseason!
And Soriano got them all excited….just to send them home. Even better, he capped off Harper’s worst day as a pro, with a weak grounder to 2nd.
Yanks win!!!
Gallbame! DERP sucks.
Dear YANKEES,
I love you so much! You waited for me to get back from a hard night of drinking and partying (of course, I’m in BANGKOK!) to win and secure the series! You guys are amazing!
What is it, like 8am there?
8 am hah. Try 5:30
(718) Bronx…I had much more fun during this game than you did. Because I expected and wanted the team to win.
Freddie’s walk up music should be “Livin on da edge”
By the way, Sweaty Fredy haters, where are you? Dude can still deliver when called on.
Right here…lol I’ll eat my crow. Freddy was great, albeit in two innings, but he was very good today and this win truly belongs to him.
today notwithstanding, give me eppley over freddy. but i tip my cap.
Eppley was great today too. He’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
“2011 Cory Wade” of 2012. Speaking of which….
I’ll take Fredy over Eppley 10x out of 10. Eppley’s finally having some success at the MLB. Kudos to him. Fredy’s been there, done that. He KNOWS how to get batters out with 4-5 different pitches, no gimmicks. Something great to have to fall back on, esp. when Girardi’s mixing and matching by batter leaves the cupboard bare in extra innings.
we won’t see many bare-cupboard box scores like today’s. i still like the late inning groundball machine.
Wow.
Thoroughly satisfying win,for lots of reasons. One is that they played a good team very hard and pulled it out in 14. Who knows? They might have to play them in October, and it’s always useful to give such an opponent a bad memory.
Freddy is a great asset in 14 inning (or longer) games. We will outlast any opponent.
Going tomorrow!
The problem is Yankees aren’t hitting enough home runs.
/new MSM meme
actually kind of sad to see this meme go. Seriously, we’ve hit ‘em against the best the leagues got, so why is to0 much of the greatest out come of an at bat a good thing?
What a game!!! Another terrific win!
Can’t wait to actually watch it tonight and over the next couple days…
This win was great for me personally, only because of all the trolls on the board that just happened to appear today, randomly the first day that it looked like the yankees might loose in over a week…only to see them have to walk away with their tails between their legs.
btw…i really want a cigarette but theirs bees right outside the door
