Game 64: Don’t stop at seven

By

(REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst)

It’s really difficult to not be excited about the way the Yankees are playing these days. They’re getting excellent work on the mound from both the starters and relievers, plus the lineup has seemed to correct their inability to get that big, timely hit. They’re still crushing dingers as well, so it’s the best of both offensive worlds. Seven wins in a row is nothing to sneeze at, and today they’ll push for their first eight-game winning streak since last August. Here’s the starting nine…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
RF Nick Swisher
LF Raul Ibanez
Russell Martin
3B Eric Chavez
LHP Andy Pettitte

Today’s game is scheduled to start a little after 1pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. If you’re in the D.C. area, we’re having a little meet-up after the game. Enjoy.

    No A-ROD

    • TomH says:

      Saturday day-off, I guess.

    • forensic says:

At the start of the 6 game road trip, Girardi said everyone should be able to play through all 6 because of the day off in the middle.

Now, he changes his tune with 2 starters getting days off, and says he didn’t know this was a day game, all despite A-Rod saying he knew for almost a week that he was going to be given today off.

Unsurprisingly, it’s not really worth listening to Girardi when it comes to this stuff anymore.

      • RetroRob says:

        Do you actually care?

        • forensic says:

Do I care that guys (mostly A-Rod) seem to get too many days off? Yes. Do I care that he openly lies to the media, and thus the fans through them? Yes, though I’m sure he and organization don’t care about that, and I don’t blame them, I’m just one fan.

But, if you’re not going to play them all 6, then don’t volunteer the info that you are going to play them all 6.

  2. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    To infinity and beyond…

  3. Mike Axisa says:

Steve Urkel just threw out the first pitch.

  4. Greg says:

Gonna be tough to raise this guy’s pitch count. Pounds the zone

  5. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    Ruh Roh.

  6. Kramerica Industries says:

Taking the easy way out again.

Bob Carpenter and F.P. Santangelo today for me. I don’t listen to the Nats too much on MLB.tv – are either of them good at what they do?

    • Pat D says:

They sounded OK when I heard them against the Blue Jays earlier this week.

They aren’t as bad as Rob Dibble, for sure.

  7. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Does anyone ever feel confident when TEX is at the plate? What happened to the 290/300 Hitter he used to be?

Nitpicking, the way were playing, but he is frustrating to watch hit now a days…

Dandy Andy on the other hand is a blast to watch pitch!

  8. Pat D says:

So today will be the last Saturday I ever work at T-Mobile.

How do they thank us? Well last night, and I’m expecting today as well, we get put in additional queues so we can take more calls. Just because there are “Father’s Day Sales” going on.

Well, let me run this by you. This was quite possibly the most disgusting thing a customer ever told me. A customer bought a phone from one of our direct retail stores on Thursday. It had problems, so it needed to be returned. She went back to the store yesterday and the store told her that they were focusing on sales and so they wouldn’t exchange it for her. When she told me this, I was completely floored. Now we have a large distrust of retail reps as it is because they seem to refuse to help customers with basic problems, but this took the cake. They refused to exchange this woman’s phone. They were so focused on making new sales, that they weren’t willing to protect an existing sale. I told the customer to go right back to the store and have them exchange it, and if they would not, to go to a different store. I told her what they did was unacceptable.

I once worked at an indirect agent store for Cingular, meaning we weren’t owned by Cingular, but our storefront and our shirts said Cingular, therefore we represented that company. If I ever said something like that to someone I had sold a phone to, I would have been fired on the spot.

This is just one of the many reasons that I will have pretty much no sympathy for this company once I’m not a member of it. Once I get my severance pay, I’m switching my phone service to Verizon and not looking back. It’s not like I’ll have to feel sorry for people left behind, as there won’t be any. Yea, some of my friends decided to transfer, but there weren’t too many.

    OK, rant over, Go Yankees.

    • This game is going so quick that by the time i finished reading your rant there’s already 1 out in the second.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Sad that Customer Service is ignored like that. Deming is rolling over in his grave. T-Mobile won’t be around in 5 years and they’ll have this (and many other reasons) to blame for it.

      • Pat D says:

To me the downfall began about 2 years ago when they drastically reduced our CRT (call resolution time) goal from 959 seconds to 840 seconds. Everyone began to feel really rushed and we started to cut corners, like forgetting common courtesies, which started to cost us winning the JD Power Awards, which is all they ever cared about previously. Then some of the top execs left/retired, and the new CEO came from Deutsche Telekom, which to me was nothing more than a sign that his job was to sell the company. A few months later, the AT&T merger was announced. That started causing customer loyalty to drop.

Then we started to count handset exchange percentage as a metric. So now we couldn’t just exchange phones whenever we wanted to. This made sense, as we were doing tons of exchanges that were not going to help a customer. However, our customers were so used to getting whatever they wanted, that they didn’t like this and that caused a lot of grief.

Now since the merger fell apart, they’re closing a bunch of centers within the US while keeping all the outsourced centers open. Oh, yea, that’s another reason our customers have been leaving. And not having the iPhone. Now they’re also massively restructuring. To me, this all adds up to the company not being around much longer.

        • RetroRob says:

The level of customer service provided and how a company treats a customer is important to me. I remain loyal to those companies. I’ve had a USAA credit card for fifteen years. They’ve never once called me, emailed me, solicited me, jacked up my rates without telling me, etc. And when I’ve had a question or an issue, they’ve handled it professionally. Same with American Express. High level of customer support. I use Amazon for similar reasons. I ordered a DVD, never showed up, they overnighted me another without question (the original order wasn’t even an overnight order). Several weeks later the original order showed up (it had been misdelivered by UPS). I asked Amazon what I should do with the duplicate and they told me I could return it, or keep the second copy since it was their fault it arrived late (which it wasn’t). Companies like that get my repeat business.

          • Pat D says:

I’m the same way. I find companies that treat me well and I stick with them. Amazon has always been great, so I’m loyal to them.

    • RetroRob says:

Just don’t do anything on your last day to get fired!

      • Pat D says:

Oh, I was put on “decision time,” which is last step before termination, a week before the closing announcement came through, so I’ve been as careful as possible.

I also got switched to a team with one of my old supervisors, so I wasn’t worried about getting in trouble then.

    • On your last day show up in your boxer shorts and nothing else, and hit on everybody. Man, woman, married, boss, intern, EVERYBODY! Especially if you have a new job lined up already.

      • Pat D says:

There’s a rumor that our last day, this coming Friday, will be a barbeque and they may not have us take any calls. I sure hope so, considering I expect today to suck ass.

Long story short, I won’t be doing that.

      • Paul VuvuZuvella says:

No, just hit on Carly Foulkes.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella says:

How generous on the severance are they being?

      • Pat D says:

About $7500, of which I’m expecting about 25% to be taxed.

It was slightly insulting because I would have gotten more had the AT&T merger gone through and we got laid off as a result of that.

        • Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Sounds like they treat everyone like shit (customers, employees, etc.)

        • RI$P FTW says:

          Is this NYS?
As far as I know, severance is taxed as a ‘bonus’ (much, much higher than the normal already-way-too-high taxes). Mine got taxed around 50%, but that was back in 2005.
Do you live where there are no state taxes?
My current quarterly bonuses are also taxed at almost 50% in NYC.
I could be completely wrong, though.

          • Pat D says:

I live in Pennsylvania. I missed the meeting where they said how it would be taxed, but my coworkers told me it wasn’t going to be taxed like a bonus.

If it ends up that way, I’m going to highly pissed off since collecting unemployment is apparently going to be a pain in the ass.

            • RetroRob says:

Why would collecting unemployment be a pain in the ass? You still get it even with severance.

              • Pat D says:

We had someone from unemployment come in twice to talk to us about it. She made it sound like the most confusing thing in the world.

First of all, we won’t get any money from them for about 3 weeks after we’re terminated (not mention the severance won’t show up for at least a month). Second, there’s all this stuff about what we have to “declare” to them. On June 29, we get our last regular paycheck and we also get the second part of a “retention” bonus related to the failed AT&T merger. She said the bonus money has to be “reported” to them. I tried to ask what about our last paycheck then, and I was ignored. She just made it a million times more confusing.

The only other time I collected unemployment, back in 2005 for a period of about 6 weeks, I don’t remember it being nearly as complicated. They also say you have to apply for 2 jobs per week and do stuff on the state CareerLink site to qualify, though that’s all done on “the honor system.”

                It’s sounding pretty fucking ridiculous.

                • RetroRob says:

Every state is different I’m guessing. A friend of mine in NJ said the initial process is annoying, but once you’re in the system it’s pretty easy. I’m guessing all states have the application process online by now.

There used to be a week waiting period before you can apply, and then another week for processing, so it can take a couple weeks for the first check to arrive. I’m assuming that still holds. Severance checks, vacation pay and final paychecks should not delay how quickly you receive benefits. I’m not sure about the retention bonus part. My entirely uneducated guess is it probably won’t take more than 15 minutes or a half hour to complete the application, and then you’ll be notified by mail when your benefits start.

  9. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Got a feeling Chavez is going yard today.. hes due, and i think he’ll line up one of these fastballs from zimmerman, and jack it outta the park…

  10. Greg says:

And Pettitte just took Harper to school

  11. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Andy with a nice 1,2,3 first inning… Time for us to get a guy or 2 on and let Chavez go yard!

  12. Will The Thrill says:

    Blowout please.

  13. Andy says:

    Great at bat by Swish

  14. Hummingbird S. says:

great AB by swish… on different note, Nats broadcast is REALLY good

  15. RetroRob says:

Oh, that’s such nonsense from Kay. That was a combination of being so bad that the Nats had the first picks on two consective years when two generational talents were available.

    • Will The Thrill says:

Seriously. They (Harper and Starsburg) were consensus top picks with talent that seems to come only once in a lifetime. If they had top picks in 2012/2013 like the Astros probably will have I don’t think they would’ve faired as well.

      • RetroRob says:

Exactly. I understand what he was trying to say. In some years it’s true. A ten-year-old could have drafted Strasburg and Harper. No skill. The luck of being bad when those players came available.

    • Is he going on about the Nat’s excellent scouting for drafting Srausburg and Harper? Because Anybody with an IQ higher than their shoe size would know that they were the no-brainer pick.

      • RetroRob says:

It wasn’t quite that bad. He basically was pointing out how critical it was that an organization not mess up when they have the top picks because it could set them back years, and then pointed to the successful drafting of Strasburg and Harper as examples of how to do it right. He didn’t say it quite that way, but that’s what he was implying.

It’s easy to pick those guys. They’re clear #1s. They’re actually more than that. They’re clear #1s and regarded as two of the single best prospects to come along in a decade or two. Contrast that with the draft this year and the Astros. That’s much more difficult. Even if they make a good pick, doesn’t mean the player will even be great.

  16. RetroRob says:

    A hit? Really?

  17. Greg says:

I kind of understand that scoring. The ball did not come off the middle of his glove; it was on the upper half. It was high enough to escape the glove

    • Cuso says:

the reason it came off the end of the glove was because of the non-chalance. Cano was certain that he had it (not getting on him about it – but it’s true).

Had Morse played perfectly up the middle. It was an error.

  18. Cuso says:

That was NOT a hit. Home-cooking much?

  19. Andy says:

    squeezed

  20. Adam says:

Umm, did Leiter just intimate that he thought Mantle played in the Nats’ stadium?

  21. Andy says:

    those should be unearned runs

  22. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

How the hell did that ball go so far?

  23. Greg says:

You should not give up a hit to Jesus Flores, Andy

  24. Pat D says:

    Check that bat for cork!

  25. Cy Pettitte says:

giving up a 2 out hit with the pitcher on deck is literally the worst thing ever.

  26. Will The Thrill says:

I’m really hoping the Yanks can score runs for Andy today. Zimmerman is a good pitcher but he’s no Verlander (who we crushed twice I might add).

  27. Wahhh!!!!!!!thisgameisover!!!NEVERMAKINGTHEPLAYOFFS!!!!FIREGIRARDI!!!!TOMANYHOMERS!!!!IBLAMEAROD!!!!!!!!!

  28. Brian S. says:

If Cano and Ibanez weren’t such lazy fucks they wouldn’t have scored that inning.

    • Greg says:

Jason Bay thinks you should leave Ibanez off the list as shown by last night

    • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

Cano yes, no way Ibanez can catch that.

      • Brian S. says:

What? I’m pretty sure every outfielder except Ibanez catches that. If he’s standing on the track it lands in his glove but he didn’t want to get near the wall for some reason.

        • forensic says:

Sterling said it was ripped way over his head and off the wall, leaving him no chance to catch it.

Of course, now with this debate, I have no idea what to think about it.

          • Brian S. says:

Sterling has no idea what he’s talking about. All Ibanez had to do was get neat the wall, which he had time to do, and it would have landed in his glove.

  29. Kramerica Industries says:

Andy Pettitte being at the plate must always be accompanied by this:

    http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......id=7106821

  30. Andy says:

Leiter just said the bunt was successful in keeping out of the double play…isn’t the bunt more to put a runner in scoring position or is he just knowing that Jeter is on deck and would probably hit into a DP?

  31. Kramerica Industries says:

    Hah at that shitty luck.

  32. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    tie it up Grandy

  33. That fourth pitch was literally right down the middle.

  34. Great AB by Grandy. Make him pay Tex.

  35. Will The Thrill says:

Teixeira any type of hit here would be appreciated.

  36. Cy Pettitte says:

looks like the lefties are starting to pick up that inside slider better

  37. Kramerica Industries says:

Yankees are hitting some bombs – just too quickly to keep them fair.

  38. I just pulled up the field view of the ball park…what the fuck is going on out in left center?

  39. Brian S. says:

Teixeira is an asshole. Easily my least favorite player.

    • Greg says:

Cant blame Tex there. That was a great pitch.

    • Wow, you just hate everybody huh? Ibanez and Cano are lazy, CC isn’t an ace, A-Rod sucks, and Tex is an asshole. Why exactly do you root for this team again?

      • Brian S. says:

When have I said anything bad about A-Rod? I say ‘CC is not an ace’ because it’s a meme. Maybe you should check your sarcasm detector. Cano is my favorite player. No, I don’t like Ibanez and Teixeira. But you can piss off.

        • Sorry, sarcasm is hard to read over the internet. I though you were serious about the CC stuff, and I’ve got you confused with Stuart A. That dude hates Alex. Still though, hating on Ibanez? If it wasn’t for Gardner getting hurt we’d be talking about how great he’s been as the DH.

          • Brian S. says:

I love A-Rod. It’s always been easy to root for him due to the irrational hatred he receives from half the fanbase. I don’t like Teixeira, Ibanez, and Soriano, but I don’t think I’m the only one that dislikes certain players on the team. Sorry for the outburst, I could have explained myself better.

            • It’s ok, I kind of jumped you. I understand disliking Tex, he’s been just barely above average and being payed to be elite, I also understand disliking Soriano, I personally haven’t like him since a game last season were he blew off the media after giving up a lead (man up). Raul Ibanez hate I don’t get, dude’s been great at the plate for us and going above and beyond what he was brought into do by playing the outfield (and not terribly at that).

    • Evan3457 says:

What for taking a backdoor slider that, if it was a strike, barely scraped the black (as evidenced by the catcher’s contortions with the mitt to bring it back to the corner).

    • RI$P FTW says:

He’s just a boring, dull, dumb athlete. I doubt he’s a dick (but everyone’s a dick at some point).

  40. Greg says:

Good pitch. Slider on the outside corner. WE may be in some trouble

  41. Will The Thrill says:

    Not a strike.

  42. Pat D says:

Think that last pitch was a ball.

That huge difference in Zimmerman’s BAA has to correct itself some time.

  43. Will The Thrill says:

Also I hate how the ump took his sweet time calling that 3rd strike.

  44. Andy says:

    Way to close to take…

  45. Cy Pettitte says:

lefties are killing Harper this series with the soft stuff

  46. Wow…our lefties have made Harper look like 19yr old rookie.

  47. Greg says:

I’m really going to be pissed if the difference in this game is going to be a broken bat double by a shitty number 8 hitter in Jesus Flores

  48. Pat D says:

Is Harper susceptible to breaking pitches from left-handed pitchers? Starting to look that way based upon Rapada and Pettitte.

    • forensic says:

That’s what I wondered after yesterday against Rapada, but he actually has a reverse split and has killed lefties. Maybe NL lefties aren’t throwing as many breaking balls, maybe it’s a sample size issue. I don’t know.

  49. Will The Thrill says:

I feel like this was a good matchup for A-Rod to play today.

  50. Greg says:

If you are going to give Zimmerman the slider outside…

  51. Buhner's barber says:

That walk to Zimmerman after that 3rd strike to Tex is ridiculous.

  52. Cy Pettitte says:

old man Chavez still has some ups

  53. Ok, is it pronounced ChAvez or Chevez? because each radio broadcast is saying it differently and I’ve been saying ChAvez my entire life.

  54. Baseball and a Wallflowers concert?!?! I want to go to the Nationals/Braves game in July!!!

  55. Will The Thrill says:

Anyone think Cano is swinging and missing more this year or is it just me?

  56. Pat D says:

    1928, 1932, 1936, 1952, 1956, 1996 and 2000.

Presidents elected in those years were Hoover, FDR, FDR, Ike, Ike, Clinton and Dubya.

Interesting factoid: The Yankees have not won the World Series with a sitting Republican president since 1958. This is probably what cost them in 1960, 1976, 1981, 2001, and 2003.

  57. Cy Pettitte says:

that 1-0 pitch to Swish is definitely not a strike

  58. Will The Thrill says:

Wow. Ump making blatant bad strike calls now.

  59. Brian S. says:

    lol second strike to Swisher.

  60. Andy says:

this ump is starting to annoy me

  61. Will The Thrill says:

    Ump definitely a Nats fan.

  62. sangreal says:

That’s bs. should be same rule as infield fly

  63. Cano, HALFWAY! Just in case that happens! HALFWAY!!!!!!

    • Adam says:

Eh, tough call…he moved back towards second as the ball hit Nady’s glove. He can’t get doubled off there, and if he was halfway at that point he easily could have been. Tough read.

  64. Kramerica Industries says:

    How slow is Cano?

    Holy shit.

    • Will The Thrill says:

One of the knocks against him. Slow on base paths and shitty range compared to other 2nd basemen (Kinsler, Phillips, Kendrick).

    • Adam says:

Replay showed that he moved back towards second, those two lengths made the difference.

  65. Brian S. says:

    sigh

  66. Wow, two things: Lots of Yankee fans at the ball park, and The Nats are dying to give us this game back! Let’s take it back.

  67. Cy Pettitte says:

I’m surprised they’re pitching to Chavez with Andy on deck

  68. Kramerica Industries says:

    Thanks, Ian.

  69. Cy Pettitte says:

I love when other teams give us free runs

  70. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

    I’ll take it!

  71. DERP says:

    E-an Desmond

  72. Andy says:

These fielders are almost as bad as the Rays

  73. mike_h says:

dont they realize that Pettitte is on deck

  74. Zimmerman’s pitch count
    1st and 2nd inning: 23 Ptiches
    3rd-now:53

  75. Will The Thrill says:

Ah. This brings me back to the days when teams in the AL actually had bad defense and would make rally starting errors. #NLbaseball

  76. I hate NL baseball. We’d at least have a Martin up in this scenario, instead a pitcher…

  77. Brian S. says:

We should mash third time through the order. Zimmerman isn’t long for this game if we get a couple runners on and in next inning.

  78. Pat D says:

I can’t believe that the team would let any players on one of those scooters.

  79. DERP says:

This ump can eat a dick.

  80. Will The Thrill says:

It’s time to swing for the fences this next inning. #toomanyhomers

  81. DERP says:

I’m pretty sure the opposite of Natitude is Nadytude. He’s terrible.

  82. Will The Thrill says:

The ump is just itching to call strikes against the Yanks.

  83. RI$P FTW says:

I think we’re due for a Jeter HR.

  84. Pat D says:

Wow, just checked the upcoming weather. It’s going to be in the mid to upper 90s Wednesday and Thursday.

    Yikes.

  85. Kramerica Industries says:

This is why Jeter doesn’t hit line drives.

    They all get caught.

  86. DERP says:

    Nadytude

  87. Completely off topic: last week I mentioned I was reading and enjoying World War Z and somebody suggested a book, I forget who it was and the name of the book…I’ve finished World War Z so help someone!

  88. Brian S. says:

    Nice catch Espinosa.

  89. Brian S. says:

Teixeira again. Don’t worry you guys, he’ll just mention his RBI total.

  90. Brian S. says:

We should trade Teixeira for Brandon Belt.

  91. So really liking the National’s play-by-play guy. I can’t wait for Sterling to retire, nothing against the guy but his stuff is just played out…

  92. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    One more inning for Zimmerman.

  93. Pat D says:

Andy should have chucked that bat at Zimmerman.

Oops, I mean, in the direction of Zimmerman.

  94. mike_h says:

6-4-3 double play would be nice here, come on Andy

  95. DERP says:

Always a good idea to let two shitty hitters get on in front of their best hitter.

  96. Will The Thrill says:

The ump has been beyond horrible.

  97. Book on Bryce Harper: cannot hit the harder off speed stuff, at least coming out of AP’s hand.

  98. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    Sit down son.

  99. Brian S. says:

    Bear down Andy.

  100. dontchaknow says:

    I love Bryce’s crazy mannerisms

  101. Cy Pettitte says:

Andy is padding his whiff rate with Harper’s ABs

  102. DERP says:

Bryce is clearly helping his childhood favorite team (and future team).

  103. RetroRob says:

Dear Bryce Harper, you have six years or so to learn how to hit that pitch before joining the Yankees.

  104. Will The Thrill says:

Bryce Harper meet fututre HOF Andy Pettitte.

  105. At this pitch rate, Andy should be able to pitch at least into the 8th. However, because 1. We need runs 2. He’s due up within the next inning or two.

  106. Tom Q says:

So, if I said Andy seems to be somewhat outpitching Zimmerman, but luck and umpiring at the margins has tilted the game Zimmerman’s way, would there be general agreement?

  107. sangreal says:

    Nats D always this bad?

  108. Kramerica Industries says:

    2nd/3rd, 0 out.

Time to get the lead, gentlemen. That is – don’t fuck this up.

  109. Brian S. says:

    It’s time Ibanez. Show it.

  110. RetroRob says:

    I’ll take a productive out.

  111. Kramerica Industries says:

    Eh, we’ll take it.

  112. DERP says:

The Nats PBP guy just said the ratio of Nats fans to Yankees fans was 4 to 1.

  113. RetroRob says:

An out, and worse, is Swish hurt?

  114. Kramerica Industries says:

    Injury to insult. Lovely.

  115. sangreal says:

    fuck. swish looks hurt

  116. DERP says:

I hope nothing good ever happens to Jordan Zimmermann. Way to spell your name wrong also asshole.

  117. Brian S. says:

    Dammit Russ!

  118. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Let’s go Chavy, make it a moot point.

  119. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

I swear, I’ve never seen that contact play work.

  120. Cy Pettitte says:

Chavy!! huge hit in front of Pettitte to get Martin in

  121. DERP says:

    Eric Clutch-ez

  122. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

way to make em pay, Chavy

  123. dontchaknow says:

    yay !

  124. Adam says:

Wow, great piece of hitting there…

  125. Brian S. says:

    Chavy Beisbol!

  126. Kramerica Industries says:

Four of the five runs today have been scored with the #8 hitter, with two outs.

Yikes at that. NL Baseball FTW.

  127. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

Based on that last play, the Nats announcer may want to take back that 4-1 Nats fan to Yankee fan statement.

  128. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

Not gonna lie, I thought Andy hit one into the gap there.

  129. DM says:

That Chavez sucks at baseball; Ramiro Pena would’ve been much better.

    • Kramerica Industries says:

Ramiro Pena once hit a home run against a team that won the AL Pennant.

      True story.

      • It was actually a Grand Slam, for his 5th Homer of the game, and completing the cycle.

      • Brian S. says:

That home run against the Rangers last year was awesome. We went 7-2 against those bastards last year. I really wanted to face them in the ALDS with the way we mashed left handed pitching that year.

        • Kramerica Industries says:

I don’t think the Game 5 disappointment will begin to dissipate from my mind until the Yankees win a playoff series.

And it was made worse since the Tigers upset the Yankees in 2006 as well, in both cases the Yankees having had the best record in the AL. Unlike 2010, the Yankees would’ve had home field against Texas. Nova or no Nova, the opportunity was there.

Isn’t it funny how the Cardinals are always in the World Series in years where the Yankees seemingly missed their chance?

  130. Havok9120 says:

    Take THAT National League baseball.

  131. Brian S. says:

    Pettitte failed with RISP? Choker.

    • RetroRob says:

It would have been funny if a pitcher who hasn’t batted in years and is 40-years-old turned out to be the guy who could get a RISP hit.

  132. Havok9120 says:

Yeah, I thought Andy got a RBI there. Which is awesome even though he didn’t.

  133. DERP says:

Remember when Ted Nelson went on and on about how Nick Punto was much better than Chavez.

    • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

      Punto is much grittier.

    • DM says:

Well, it’s probably possible that it could likely be that Punto might be somewhat better at certain times — if you carry the 4 and divide by 7, and ignore how he actually plays.

  134. Brian S. says:

Right when Swisher was starting to heat up…Damn.

  135. RetroRob says:

I don’t think, and really hoping, that injury to Swisher is serious. Probably just a bruise. Could see him back tomorrow. Of course, I had a similar reaction when Brett Gardner dived for the ball in left.

  136. Kramerica Industries says:

Tyler Moore has been a pain in the ass.

  137. Brian S, I’ve got a question for you, and your answer will decide whether I like you or not. I know you dislike Tex, and even understand why you do, BUT do you dislike him to the point where you root for him to make out?

    • Brian S. says:

I root for him to produce in close games. I don’t like to see him pad his stats in blowouts like I do Cano, Rodriguez, Granderson etc.

      • Fair enough. I hate most A-Rod haters because regardless of situation they seem to root for him to fail so they can say “SEE I TOLD YOU HE’S GARBAGE.”

        • Brian S. says:

For sure. I mean, in a game like this I want him to hit a home run every time he’s at the plate. And I agree it’s really annoying when people get on A-Rod for every out he makes. Like the stadium booing him for working an 11-pitch at bat against Price.

          • Seriously, I understand he’s over paid like no other, but it’s not his fault that Hank threw the Treasury of a decent sized country at him with out any negotiation. What’s he supposed to say, no no I’m not worth that, pay me less.

            • Brian S. says:

I just hope A-Rod can stay as productive as he is through 2014. His salary decreases to around 21-20 mil his last four years and the Yankees can probably take that hit with a 200 million dollar payroll (because 189 is only for one year right?)

  138. Kramerica Industries says:

And another line drive out for Jeter.

  139. Brian S. says:

Let’s go Robbie. He hasn’t hit a home run in a cool minute.

  140. DERP says:

It would be nice if Andy could go 8 and we could skip David for today. I’d rather ease him in a little more.

  141. Kramerica Industries says:

    Well, there goes that.

  142. Kramerica Industries says:

Nats MASN music >> O’s MASN music.

And the O’s theme isn’t even bad. The Nats just kick ass.

    • DERP says:

It’s funny that the Orioles own so much more of MASN but everything about their broadcasts is worse.

      • Kramerica Industries says:

        Dunno.

Maybe Gary Thorne becomes grating in a local broadcasts, but in general I’ve always loved listening to him call games. His call that ended the Red Sox 2011 season is permanently etched on speed-play on my phone.

  143. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Just turned down two bleacher seats at Wrigley tonight. Why go watch a team I hate play a team that sucks?

  144. Cy Pettitte says:

so many broken bat hits wtf

  145. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    oooh, that was close.

  146. Brian S. says:

With Zimmermann, Morse coming up do you put in Wade? Or let Andy keep going?

  147. vicki says:

nobody stealing range points from grandy today.

  148. Brian S. says:

We still need a home run. The streak must be kept alive!

  149. Kramerica Industries says:

    3/4/5 this inning for Washington.

If this can be navigated, the Yankees should be in good shape.

  150. RetroRob says:

How many pitches was Andy at?

  151. Kramerica Industries says:

Thanks for hitting the ball to right field, Ryan.

Got to see that sweet ad that pimps my namesake.

  152. Cy Pettitte says:

    damn come on Cory….

  153. Kramerica Industries says:

Fuckin’ two strike/two out home run.

    Shit.

  154. Brian S. says:

    Wade is not an ace.

  155. Karl Krawfid says:

A fastball in a 2-2 count when you have a good slider/Curve and great change up.

    So damn stupid.

    • Tom says:

After the first pitch (which he was obviously going to take), he shouldn’t have seen a single fastball.

Just poor pitch calling by Martin and Wade.

  156. Kramerica Industries says:

The only problem with Cory Wade…

He’s given up a shitload of home runs recently.

  157. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

The binder should now include “don’t pitch Wade on the road”

  158. Me says:

Since when is wade an 8th inning guy.

  159. Widget says:

Shouldn’t even matter, stupid offense has been eh all game long.

  160. Will The Thrill says:

Don’t blame this one on Wade. The Yanks had a billion chances to score more runs but nothing.

  161. DERP says:

I don’t understand why Wade came in.

  162. Brian S. says:

Why is Jordan Zimmerman the only pitcher that gets the outside strike?

  163. DERP says:

    So why not Robertson?

  164. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Doesn’t matter if the offense had chances. That means they didn’t do their job. Wade is part of the bullpen, their job is to hold the lead, so yes he didnt do his job, still his fault for throwing a meat ball with 2 strikes and 2 outs .

  165. RetroRob says:

Come on, Joe. You actually managed in the NL.

  166. A-Rods not coming in for one inning cause of why?

  167. RBC says:

The only thing I could think of just now with all the confusion is “Who’s on first?”… LOL

  168. our defense catchers aren’t great defensively.

  169. Brian S. says:

    NL baseball is stupid.

  170. Cy Pettitte says:

    Wise!!! great play.

  171. FUCK YEAH DWAYNE WISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  172. DERP says:

Fuck you Moore. Also fuck you Boone for allowing the hit.

  173. JMK says:

Think he might have beaten it.

  174. RetroRob says:

Nice, although I really wish Pettitte pitched that inning.

  175. RetroRob says:

Nice, although I really wish Pettitte pitched that inning.

    • Tom says:

Well the 3 righties that were due up were a combined 1 for 9 with a weak single against Andy. And at 95 pitches he clearly looked gassed…

Got to play the platoon advantage? (or be a slave to it?)

  176. Frank says:

Great job Logan- you just got bailed out.

  177. Me says:

    Thanks ump.

  178. Adam says:

    Wow. He was very safe.

    But binder win!

  179. Brian S. says:

He was safe. I guess the umpire needed to make up for all those blown strike calls from earlier.

  180. TampaYankee says:

    I love you Dwayne Wise.

  181. DERP says:

    Yes, but Chris Dickerson…

  182. Cy Pettitte says:

embedded Yankee Tyler Clippard better help us out in the 9th

  183. Betty Lizard says:

    Russell!!!!!
    (Way to sell that swipe!)

I’m dying in my studio today. No, the other kind of dying. How are all of hue?
To those at the game: I rejoice in your good fortune.

  184. Widget says:

Crush clippard please. He’s a fucking tool.

  185. RetroRob says:

I thought he was out, but replay shows he was clearly safe.

Surprised the ump missed that. He was right on top of that play.

  186. Wow, they didn’t even make a big deal about the blown call on Nationals Radio. Imagine the uproar Sox broadcasters?

  187. Frank says:

What a horrible call. That means a walk off for the Nats.

  188. Havok9120 says:

C’mon boys, lets get the lead here and close this out. I’ve got to go to work.

  189. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

That was a really really good AB by Chavez.

  190. Havok9120 says:

Abeledejo is in their ‘pen too?

Does HE qualify as an embedded Yankee?

  191. Brian S. says:

In before the Nats crew uses that blown call to suggest a league wide conspiracy to make the Yankees win.

  192. JMK says:

Who is this umpire? He’s blowing everything on both sides.

  193. Karl Krawfid says:

Today is my Grandmas birthday. He favorite player is Granderson.

He has to go deep today for her.

  194. Brian S. says:

Swung at ball four. ‘Captain Clutch’

    • TampaYankee says:

      This.

His numbers are good this year, but his ability to be clutch is still lacking greatly. His strikeouts are frustrating.

Double play Derek also seems to find his way into games when we need something.

  195. Karl Krawfid says:

    And Jeter continues to suck.

  196. RetroRob says:

Let’s keep the HR-win streak alive.

  197. DERP says:

    HR incoming

  198. Karl Krawfid says:

    Tex won’t come through.

  199. Brian S. says:

    Teixeira sucks ass.

  200. Karl Krawfid says:

    Horrible.

  201. Havok9120 says:

    …..Natitude.

That would make me hate any other team that wasn’t the Yankees.

  202. Havok9120 says:

    Festive mood we’re having today.

  203. Tom says:

I get the feeling that after a liberal zone in the top of the 9th, the zone is going to shrivel in the bottom of the 9th.

That 2-0 call really changed the entire inning. If Jeter ends up walking, Granderson is pitched to different and Cano might bat in the inning.

    • Brian S. says:

You can bet ESPN won’t show that. But they’ll make a big deal about the blown play at the plate.

      • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

To be fair, that play at the plate was horribly missed. Nats fans would have a ligit reason to gripe if the Yankees win.

        • Brian S. says:

The umpire has been calling strikes in the Nats favor by a large margin today. I’m willing to bet with a more neutral zone they score more than three runs.

  204. DERP says:

We really need to set them down 1-2-3. Don’t want Harper to get to hit.

  205. Andy says:

Chavez is playing like a fucking champ today

  206. Chavez is still the man at third, and Tex is great at 1st.

  207. DERP says:

Nick Punto would have turned a double play on that grounder.

  208. Knoxvillain says:

Can Cano run hard for once? For the talent he has, you’d think his lazy ass would actually hustle.

    • Andy says:

He wasn’t going to beat that out…

      • Knoxvillain says:

It doesn’t matter. If he actually ran out of the box instead of always jogging like the lazy fuck he is he may have. He might have forced a rushed throw from Espinosa instead.

  209. DERP says:

    Who plays the outfield now?

  210. Brian S. says:

Right when you think Cano is starting to develop plate discipline he goes and swings at ball four.

  211. ARod, hitless as a pinch hitter for his career.

  212. DERP says:

Ryan Zimmerman is going to turn his season around right here.

  213. DERP says:

    Toss him ump.

  214. Karl Krawfid says:

Yankees making Harper look, dare I say, 19.

  215. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

    Harper shoulda been tossed.

  216. To close to take there Harper, as well as Nationals Radio crew.

  217. WHAT THE FUCK IS NATITUDE?!?!?! I’m really starting to dislike the Nationals.

    • Widget says:

I blame the Red Sox and their stupid fucking Red Sox Nation bullshit. Every stupid team tries to come up with some sort of stupid slogan to show your fanboishness. Nats fans all have NATITUDE!!!!!!

  218. DERP says:

We got this. The Nationals announcers are jinxing them.

  219. Cy Pettitte says:

good job by Eppley, now he can go another inning if needed

  220. vicki says:

big inning here, please. i’m missing point break.

  221. CUYanks says:

Joe’s burning through his bench and bullpen. What do we have, another inning of Eppley and then its Freddy time?

  222. Brian S. says:

    Everyday Eppley

  223. DERP says:

The Rangers have given away so many great bullpen arms. They are great at developing them.

  224. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

How is that RAB postgame party going to be after 20 innings?

  225. Cy Pettitte says:

    please god no Freddy

  226. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

No Kay, you don’t hold Soriano until you get a lead.

  227. DERP says:

It’s gonna suck if Eppley has to get sent down for a fresh arm.

  228. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

I could swear Kay just George Zimmermann, not Jordan Zimmermann.

  229. Brian S. says:

Russ needs to foul that off and work a walk. All he ever does is ground to third.

  230. Karl Krawfid says:

Old Chavez goes yard on that swing :(

Old Chavez wouldn’t be playing for the Yankees :(

    • Tom says:

That first play was nice and he is a tremeendous defensive player, but I don’t think the MASN announcers (I’m watching the MLB Network feed) really understand what he is doing.

He comes up late with the glove (which is smart because if the ball skips his glove is already down), which means he is snapping his glove up on most groundballs hit to his left and it makes the play look harder than it really is.

The last grounder was fairly routine but when he snap the glove up it makes it look like a lot tougher play (or makes it seem like it took a tough hop).

  231. Brian S. says:

I’m not liking how this game is developing.

  232. Cuso says:

Oh well. Freddy = Time to start a new streak.

  233. Karl Krawfid says:

I Think Garcia goes before Epply does. I hope.

  234. JMK says:

    Eppley looks nasty out there.

  235. DERP says:

    I’m okay with that.

  236. Jimmy McNulty says:

Attention offense: Score some fucking runs.

    Signed,

    Your fans.

  237. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

ah man, the winning run on base.. Come on Eppley, keep ur magic going, please!! Ahead 1-2..

  238. DERP says:

    Cody Kimbrel

  239. Jimmy McNulty says:

    Jeter/Granderson/Teixeira

    Hitless

No wonder they only scored three fucking runs in 11 innings.

  240. Tom says:

Even though he was 0-2 to LaRouche, that was a good walk by Eppley… you don’t give in at all and if he chases great, if not you deal with the next hitter.

I wish Martin had used that logic with Wade in the 8th inning and not allowed Wade to throw a fastball.

    • Jimmy McNulty says:

It’s not Martin’s fault, the bullpen’s won way too many games that they should have lost lately. They were going to fold sooner or later.

  241. Cody Epply, you will all bow before him.

  242. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Lets get a hit here boys.. Haven’t seen to many of those today. They keep spittting solid relievers at us left and right.. Hopefully we get to one of these guys

  243. stuart a says:

    BA RISP>>>>

    end the story

    pettitte looks great…

wade 4 homers on the season, his only issue.

  244. DERP says:

The Nats bullpen hasn’t allowed a hit.

  245. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    C’mon guys, Garcia looms

  246. Jimmy McNulty says:

Who would have thought that Soriano would be the overwhelming favorite choice out of that bullpen combo.

  247. Jimmy McNulty says:

Jesus, I didn’t know Craig Stamen was still in baseball.

And that was just fucking pathetic.

  248. vicki says:

    E5, stud.

  249. Cy Pettitte says:

come on Robbie. make them pay.

  250. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

I’ve been waiting for one of those Zimmerman throws to sail on him..lol

  251. DERP says:

    lol at this

  252. Jimmy McNulty says:

That’s the closest thing Teixeira’s going to see to a hit today.

  253. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

I’d rather have CC or Hiroki up there than Stewart.

  254. Jimmy McNulty says:

NL baseball is the fucking worst.

  255. DERP says:

    Where are the CC Sabathias?????///

  256. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Please get a hit, I need to go look at pretty girls.

  257. Tom says:

I’d go CC as the PH (only partially kidding)

  258. Widget says:

Stewart is keeping the homer streak alive.

  259. mike_h says:

we need a hit badly here

    • Jimmy McNulty says:

Yeah if they don’t score now the Nats will likely take it against Garcia if they don’t get it against Soriano.

  260. Jimmy McNulty says:

Wow, and to think I would rather have Cervo now.

  261. Jimmy McNulty says:

Has the ump been calling that all night?

  262. Karl Krawfid says:

    Stewie come on buddy.

  263. mike_h says:

great now no more pinch hitters

  264. mike_h says:

too bad Swisher is out of the game, we might need him to pitch

  265. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

When u get to guys like Wise, Nix, Stewart all in the lineup, its just not looking good… Were not even getting any type of hits at all.. Were in trouble in this one.. Losing Swisher really stung… Who didn’t know stewart was gonna k? I still don’t get why we didn’t just let Cervelli be our backup Catcher, hes fine defensivley, and a much better hitter, albeit, not great, but decent..

    • JMK says:

Cervelli, despite his billing as a defensive catcher, was terrible. Don’t you remember? Not that Stewart has wowed or anything.

  266. Tom says:

I know what Girardi is going to do here….

But you have to pitch Soriano first and then let Garcia finish it out. You don’t save your best pitcher in the pen for a lead that may not come.

I’d rather ask Garcia to hold a lead then post a zero to keep the game going, and I never understood why managers save their closer on the road.

  267. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Game ends here….7 in a row was awesome tho!

  268. JMK says:

Oh shit, Freddy is up. Ugh, game is over. And I’m an optimist.

  269. stuart a says:

brian I was out the last few days. arod still sucks. look at his slugging % like a weak hitting 2nd baseman.

arod is on pace for less then 80 rbi’s, if that is great I am guilty as charged.

yanks will not score today if this game goes until tommorrow….

    • I was going to go off on you then I remembered what I said a couple days ago, when you vanished right after Alex hit a homer. You’re probably the same guy who was bashing Alex before 09 saying no matter how good his numbers are he’s garbage because he doesn’t hit in the playoffs. There is literally nothing A-rod could do to make you happy, and their is nothing we can do or say to change your mind about this.

  270. 718 (Bronx) says:

    Yankees are pathetic!

  271. RetroRob says:

Garcia has pitched little of late. Let’s hope the wheels don’t come off the track.

  272. Freddy Garcia=waving the white flag. Robertson is a professional athlete that has been cleared by team doctors to resume NORMAL BASEBALL ACTIVITY for him that includes pitching on back to back days. In a perfect world would it be good ease him back in? Yes. But this isn’t a perfect world.

  273. Dino Velvet says:

Oh man, Freddie makes me sweat bullets.

it’s like watching someone try to disarm a bomb in an action movie. you just never know when he’s gonna cut the wrong wire and blow everything up.

  274. JMK says:

Are my eyes deceiving me? Has Freddy just gotten two outs?

  275. JMK says:

Someone should pull up the PitchFx on the strike zone. During Lombardozzi’s at bat, one clear strike was called a ball and one obvious ball was a strike. This follows the game pattern of seemingly random strike and ball calls.

  276. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

    Was not expecting that.

  277. Cy Pettitte says:

    platinum sombrero!

  278. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    Did that just happen?

  279. SWEATY FREDDY says:

    DONT FUCK WITH FREDDY

  280. Widget says:

Hey Bryce tell me how that Yankee ass tastes?

  281. YankeesJunkie says:

Neither team wants to see the RABers drink after the game…

  282. Cy Pettitte says:

why would you leave in the 13th? no such thing as too much baseball

  283. Greg says:

Just got back here. Cory Wade deserves to be punished. First off, your fastball is your secondary pitch at only 89-90 mph. Why in the world would you throw it there. And second off the location was absolutely horrific.

  284. Um…I’m in shock. like did that just happen? Did that really just happen? 0-6 w/ 5Ks, one of them against Freddy Garcia. Talk about a bad day at this office.

  285. stuart a says:

arod stinks look at his stats. the guy is on pace for 70 rbi’s.. the old arod was great that guy is long gone…

arod is a slap hitter. the last week the guy has hit 4 bleeders to 2nd..

  286. stuart a says:

wades homers he has given up have hurt big time. he is pitching in the 7th or later so when he gives them up it hurts….

  287. 718 (Bronx) says:

    stuart a is beyond pathetic!

  288. Monterowasnotdinero says:

Freddy can pitch till the 18th.

    We got this.

  289. Tom says:

Washington bullpen throwing a 7 inning no hitter so far…

Might want to get back to a disciplined approach that they’ve had against the Nat starters… Stammen is averaging 13 pitches an inning.

  290. Karl Krawfid says:

    Jeter needs 3 days off.

  291. Hummingbird S. says:

    thats some sucky D

  292. Brian S. says:

    Dammit Nunez!

  293. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

wow, there really is something to us not hitting a HR and losing.. This one just seems like to many of our scrubs in there to pull it out.. And now u got Jeter making a error, we haven’t got but 5hits, and i can’t even remember the last hit we got.. This ones gonna end here soon…

  294. Wow, Rick Ankiel reduced to pinch hit bunting…sad.

  295. Greg says:

That’s interesting. Wasting Ankiel to bunt

  296. Widget says:

Damn it Jeter and does it have to be Zimmerman that gets on and then fucking Ian Desmond that gets the game winning hit? Gross

  297. vicki says:

come ON. just make it to lidge.

  298. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

I got a bad feeling about this bernadina at abat… Hope i’m wrong

  299. 718 (Bronx) says:

Yankees don’t deserve to win this game.

  300. come on Sweaty, I was kidding about saying you were terrible, you’re not…

  301. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    Realllllllllllllly?

  302. Cy Pettitte says:

lol this game is getting ridiculous

  303. Brian S. says:

Who do the Nats have left in the pen? Gorzelanny and Lidge?

  304. Rooting for U.S. Steel says:

Wow, Garcia just made a lot of Yankees fans feel pretty stupid…

    • Me among them. I still don’t think he deserves to be on the roster, but I’m happy he’s getting outs like this.

      • Rooting for U.S. Steel says:

Hey, can’t argue with success, right?

Admittedly, Garcia clearly didn’t have it this year as a starter, but of late he’s been passable as a long man/mop-up man.

I like the idea of Phelps being stretched out in the minors in case we need an emergency starter, so I wouldn’t give Garcia’s spot to him now.

Who — from within the organization — would you replace Garcia with? I don’t think another signing for someone in Garcia’s current role is a good idea.

  305. Cuso says:

Come on. Keep getting chances like this?! Score 3 here!!!

  306. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

wow, we got through 2scoreless with Garcia..lol Now if we can only add to our total of 5hits through 13innings, we’ll be on to something… We need a blast!!

  307. 718 (Bronx) says:

Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle is a pathetic faggot! Go suck a brick pathetic queer!

  308. stuart a says:

shows how bad 3rd baseman are.. zimmerman has 3 homers and a 315 obp.. is that good? the arod idol worshipers. arod’s #’s are horrible……

  309. Hummingbird S. says:

Lidge, we will definitely score here

  310. Greg says:

Now Jeter bunts and I approve of this given his day

  311. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

We got our first hit in 7innings!!! Sweett!!!! Way to go Nix!!!

  312. Cy Pettitte says:

bunt. if he doesn’t you know it’s a GIDP if he doesn’t

  313. Widget says:

Which fun and awesome way can Jeter mess this up?

  314. stuart a says:

have a parade arod is better then; sean rodriuguez, a bad kevin youkilis, callaspa, seattles group of dreg, etc.

arod has been bad, real bad. nice guy bad performance end the story…

  315. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    Gidp right here

  316. Greg says:

And he messed that up. Unbelievable

  317. Hummingbird S. says:

    damn Jeter.. wtf

  318. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

man, jeets with 0-6 at the plate, and a error, and didn’t get the sac bunt down.. Ouch.. Please don’t hit into a DP as well!

  319. Hummingbird S. says:

Id say without the bunt there is a 90% chance of this being a DP

  320. I’m calling a base hit for Derek.

  321. vicki says:

lol @ trolling the hottest team in baseball while tied in extras with the second hottest team in baseball. seriously. out loud.

  322. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Way to go Jason Nix!!! Hey now!!!

  323. Greg says:

    Well done Nix

  324. Cy Pettitte says:

excellent job by Nix. they have to get him in now.

  325. Hooray me, I called a base hit :)

Now even a DP scores a run!!

  326. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Ya Jeets!!!!! PLease get this run in granderson!!!

  327. Cuso says:

    RiSP quasi-win

  328. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Ok even a gidp scores a run

  329. RetroRob says:

Score lots of runs here, please.

  330. Hummingbird S. says:

lets see how they choke with RISP this time

  331. Tom says:

Good baserunning by Nix there… while it was going through the infield you have to hold up and make sure so you don’t get nailed at 3rd should the SS get there.

  332. Brian S. says:

    Come on Granderson…

  333. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

God, i hope this dosen’t get left into Mark Texiera’s hands.. Please Granderson!!

  334. Cuso says:

    Ugh. Cmon outfield fly.

  335. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    Fuuuuuuck

  336. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

    Jeter should steal 2nd.

  337. Hummingbird S. says:

Pathetic hack… 91mph straight and right down the middle. What a choke job

  338. Greg says:

Lidge snuck a fastball by him after feeding him sliders

  339. Cy Pettitte says:

send jeter to stay out of the double play?

  340. Brian S. says:

    Your turn Teixeira.

  341. Tom says:

    Jeter needs to steal here.

  342. Hummingbird S. says:

Come the fuck, just a goddamn flyball

  343. JMK says:

    Robot umps needed. Now.

  344. Widget says:

It’s Brad Lidge. Come on jerks, get that damn run in.

  345. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    Yesssssssssssssss

  346. Cy Pettitte says:

    Clutch Teix!!!!

  347. TEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUGE CLUTCH DOUBLE!!!!!

  348. Greg says:

    THERE WE GO

  349. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

    Tex the best.

  350. JMK says:

Huzzah! Huzzah! Thank the lord the game didn’t get into Teixiera’s hands!

  351. Andy says:

    TEXXXXXX

  352. Hummingbird S. says:

    TEIX!!! NICE!

  353. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Well, Tex surprised me! Well done!

  354. Brian S. says:

TEIX! I DONT HATE YOU AT THE MOMENT!

  355. Cy Pettitte says:

put CC in to bat. he can hit a fly ball.

  356. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

    Send up CC?

  357. Widget says:

Thank you Brad Lidge for being Brad Lidge.

  358. Hummingbird S. says:

    no more PH??

  359. RetroRob says:

Really, if Garcia is not pitching the bottom of the inning, then why not let CC hit, since he probably is the best option.

  360. Tony says:

CC should be hitting here. Stupid NL baseball!!!

  361. Tom says:

Nice – Jeter running on the pitch got them an extra run and Tex to 3rd.

Ironically, that crap call on 1-0, may have helped the AB.

  362. Greg says:

Everybody who wants to go to CC to hit, I got three words for you. Chien Ming Wang

  363. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Could be 1st game we win without a HR? We shall see!

  364. Hummingbird S. says:

    FUCK NL baseball

  365. “And it’s not Mariano Rivera, it’s Rafael Soriano warming up to attempt the save for the Yankees.”

Right in the feels, Nationals Radio Guy…

  366. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

CC could have done that too.

Also, bringing in a LOOGY for Wise??

  367. Tom says:

Have to think both Robertson and Soriano are unavailable?

And why not at least have him bunt with 2 strikes?

  368. Cuso says:

Don’t know why Leiter and Kay were so surprised at not bunt. With runner on 3rd the right play is to see if Freddy can get a fly ball to outfield. Especially off that pathetic slider.

  369. JScott says:

Maybe Girardi preferred the Lidge/Garcia match-up to the Gonzalez/CC one. Maybe he just preferred the Lidge/Fill-in-the-Blank match-up to anything else.

  370. Hummingbird S. says:

2-18 with RISP and 13 LOB.. this game shouldnt be close..

  371. To quote Greg, because he’s absolutely right “Everybody who wants to go to CC to hit, I got three words for you. Chien Ming Wang”

  372. Cy Pettitte says:

    finish them MFIKY

  373. Hummingbird S. says:

everything up so far.. not good

  374. Karl Krawfid says:

    No home runs.

  375. Hummingbird S. says:

we could use a defensive replacement for Mr. Statue Jeter

  376. eephus_pitch says:

    Grounder to short… never mind.

  377. Cuso says:

Oh Jesus. You can smell what’s coming.

  378. Brian S. says:

    Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  379. Greg says:

You knew it wasn’t going to be easy

  380. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    This could suck

  381. Really Soriano…You can’t make this easy…

  382. Hummingbird S. says:

He never makes it easy on us.. who do we have left on the pen?

  383. mike_h says:

    come on Soriano

  384. Karl Krawfid says:

Jesus Christ man. Yankees just don’t want to win this game.

  385. Cuso says:

Don’t let Harper get up.DP please!!

  386. NyCsPoRtZfAn says:

Soriano is such a bum! Even his out was scorched! Reminds me of the yr we had Phil Coke and His ERA said he was great, but in reailty, he had balls belted all yr long at people..

WE’ll be lucky if Soriano gets through this with the Save…

  387. Karl Krawfid says:

Shut the hell up Michael Kay.

  388. One away…can the young gun go 0-7, with 6Ks? that would be priceless.

  389. Hummingbird S. says:

he missed his spot badly.. lucky that didnt end up worse

  390. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

This kid is due, keep him in the park please

  391. Karl Krawfid says:

    Yeah!!!!!!!!!

  392. Hummingbird S. says:

    Nice job Sori! Great win

  393. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Fuck yes! No suspense thank you

  394. Cuso says:

Glad I’m an idiot. Great win.

  395. Hahah fuck you doubters. I’d just like to say at no point did I expect the Yankees to loose this game.

  396. Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat) says:

No evil homers. Suck it ESPN.

  397. Widget says:

Must suck to play your favorite team and watch as they own you all day long.

  398. RetroRob says:

Nice win. Just wish they had left Pettitte in.

    Eight straight!

  399. Leg-End says:

    Not today Harper.

    8!

  400. mike_h says:

now RAB goes on to drink!!!!!

  401. vicki says:

    built for the postseason!

  402. BK2ATL says:

And Soriano got them all excited….just to send them home. Even better, he capped off Harper’s worst day as a pro, with a weak grounder to 2nd.

    Yanks win!!!

  403. Brian S. says:

    Gallbame! DERP sucks.

  404. Ethan says:

    Dear YANKEES,

I love you so much! You waited for me to get back from a hard night of drinking and partying (of course, I’m in BANGKOK!) to win and secure the series! You guys are amazing!

  405. (718) Bronx…I had much more fun during this game than you did. Because I expected and wanted the team to win.

  406. Dino Velvet says:

Freddie’s walk up music should be “Livin on da edge”

  407. BK2ATL says:

By the way, Sweaty Fredy haters, where are you? Dude can still deliver when called on.

  408. Total Dominication says:

    Wow.

  409. TomH says:

Thoroughly satisfying win,for lots of reasons. One is that they played a good team very hard and pulled it out in 14. Who knows? They might have to play them in October, and it’s always useful to give such an opponent a bad memory.

  410. Monterowasnotdinero says:

Freddy is a great asset in 14 inning (or longer) games. We will outlast any opponent.

    Going tomorrow!

  411. Dino Velvet says:

The problem is Yankees aren’t hitting enough home runs.

    /new MSM meme

  412. forensic says:

What a game!!! Another terrific win!

Can’t wait to actually watch it tonight and over the next couple days…

  413. This win was great for me personally, only because of all the trolls on the board that just happened to appear today, randomly the first day that it looked like the yankees might loose in over a week…only to see them have to walk away with their tails between their legs.

btw…i really want a cigarette but theirs bees right outside the door :(
