Game 74: Andy goes for the sweep
ByThe Yankees have won the first two games of this three-game set against the Indians, and today they have Andy Pettitte on the mound against a very lefty-heavy lineup. It’s a favorable matchup and frankly I’m not even sure the Yankees need it right now. They’ve been playing very well for the last month or so and it’s hard not to feel confident before first pitch on a daily basis. Here’s the lineup…
CF Curtis Granderson
RF Nick Swisher
3B Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
DH Mark Teixeira
LF Raul Ibanez
1B Eric Chavez
C Russell Martin
SS Jayson Nix
LHP Andy Pettitte
Today’s game is scheduled to start a little after 1pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.
HOPE Week: Chad Jennings has the details on today’s HOPE Week event featuring five-year-old Andy Fass, who suffers from a rare condition called oculocutaneous albinism.

Jennings also had this in his pre game post:
Apparently there was some thought during yesterday’s game that Phil Hughes was throwing his slider again. Hughes said this morning that he’s been occasionally using a slightly lower arm angle and throwing a harder, tighter curveball that might look a little bit like a slider. It’s not a new pitch, just a different way of using his curveball. I know he’s done it in the past, and he said he’s been working on it the past six starts or so.

Any chance the Yankees search the waiver wire for either a short replacement for CC or a replacement for Freddy if they put him back in?
Who’d be better on the waiver wire than what they have internally?
*sends convoy to Korea to retrieve Brian Gordon*
At first, I thought WTF did you talk about. Wow, I did not see that coming.
After reviewing the 40 man roster, I think Yanks will go with D.J. Mitchell or David Phelps because Yanks don’t have to make any move on 40 man roster. Mitchell is more logical move because Phelps is still working on stamina and stuffs in Tampa so there is no need to rush him up.
If it is Warren then Igarashi or Farqurah will be gone. However, I am against him being a long reliever for Girardi as Garcia takes Sabby’s spot in the rotation.
Everything points on DJ Mitchell.
The last post suggested Warren as a real option, so it looks like Lord Farquah may have a short stay in the organization.
Will changes to Should, then.. lol.
I’m pleasantly surprised. Adding Warren to the 40-man seemed like the long way to go. I’d game for seeing what any of these guys can do.
I want to see Ryota Igarashi given a chance my self.
YAY for a full day off for Jeter!
Take em to church, Andy!
By the way, I have a trivia question for you guys.
In 1919, the Red Sox sent Babe Ruth to the Yankees. But what other team were they considering sending him too and for what player were they trading him for?
Melky + IPK?
IETC
To the White Sox for Shoeless Joe?
You are absolutely right.
White Sox: Shoeless Joe and 60 grand.
Yankees: 100 grand
Wonder if the rumors of the Black Sox scandal influenced the decision?
More like the owner was forced to pay the heavy debt for the failing theater. 40k more was more helpful.
According to Rob Neyer, the whole “financing the Broadway show No No Nannette” story is probably not right, since the show didn’t go into production for several more years.
Hmm. That’s putting Shoeless Joe somewhat cheap. Then again, salaries were so friggin’ low, particularly for the White Sox.
The Black Sox scandal probably didn’t have much to do with it, because it didn’t really break until 1920, by which time Ruth was with the Yankees. Jackson was in a contract dispute with Charles Comiskey, which was pretty commonplace because he was such a miser when it came to paying his players, so they probably just made an offer.
The Yankees and the two Sox teams were known as the “Insurrectos” around this time because they ignored rulings by AL president Ban Johnson, and the other 5 AL teams wouldn’t trade with them during those years.
By the way, just remember, Comiskey, Johnson, Tom Yawkey (not the Red Sox owner then but a guy who never won a World Series and was easily led astray by his underlings), and Kenesaw Landis are all in the Hall of Fame, and longtime Yankees owner Col. Jacob Ruppert is not. I hope this to be corrected come December when the “Golden Age” Veterans’ Committee votes.
Oops, the “Pre-Integration” Era, not the “Golden Age.”
To Washington for Calvin Coolidge.
They better not black this game out in LA again. Last 3 games on MLBN have been inexplicably blacked out. Only difference is this is a day game and those were night games.
Yeah, they’ve been doing that in CO as well. Not sure why an east coast game would be blakced out in CO. It sucks. I’m at work today and can’t watch it anyway, but I hate these blackouts.
Damn Wednesday day games…I wonder if my work computer blocks MLB.TV…
nothing better than sitting at work and listening to john and suzyn, except of course being at the game, or being at home and watching the game. I guess its better than just working
I wonder if you can predict baseball.
thank mo for the iphone mlb at bat app too
OHHHHH yes.
Best $14.99 you’ll ever spend.
I think it was $12 a year? But numbers are confusing.
mathishard.com
You’re late. I took Erica into the skybox.
I’m telling your wife =P
Skyboxin
without a doubt, this has been a godsend…
I love me some afternoon weekday baseball!
I don’t. My work computer is saying I’m blacked out for some reason, and my phone doesn’t get good enough service for MLB.TV. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
They’re the only games I can watch due to timezones (+7 GMT really sucks for watching ball games)
Early afternoon meeting cancelled!
Did anybody else just flip on MLB Network and get greeted by some crappy compilation show instead of the game?
Guess I shouldn’t find some excuse to leave work early today.
Do you live somewhere where Boston or Toronto is considered more local?
Central Florida, though apparently that’s what’s happening. This is the worst.
Yea, cuz I just flipped it over to see it say “regional coverage” but that the Sox/Jays game doesn’t start till 1:30.
That sucks. How can they consider one of those teams more local? By spring training location or something?
O’Neill and Kay with one more dig at the insidious homeruns.
And soon they will be longing for milkshakes
I could go for a milkshake.
And, of course, there’s this:
YouTube blocked, but I’m hoping for a Kelis reference.
No, There Will Be Blood “I drink your milkshake!”
Good one as well.
Tilapias milkshake brings all the trolls to the yard, and they’re like… “A Rod BLOWWWWSS”
I love that scene.
Suzyn just talked about a strain for one of the starters but failed to name that pitcher. Who is going on DL?
CC
Thanks, doesn’t sound serious. Its a first DL trip for the big guy in pinstripes I think. Get well CC!
CC
really?
LEGGGOOOO!!
Suzyn just mentioned Warren for tomorrow, but that Cashman was still weighing options.
I hope the Yankees go with Warren over Garcia. Lets give the kid chance and see what he has.
Andy! Russell! I am a lucky girl . . . .
You should get on the adductor machine.
+1
Adduct in front of Russell.
Andy off to a kind of shaky start. Hopefully he can get it together.
Go Andy!
andy showed up to deal in that 1st inning
Hell of a start for Andy.
Love a nice leadoff walk.
Paulie, stop teasing us. Your too old to play
ever the modest one, Mr O’Neill
What did he say? (Listening to radio feed.)
Just talking about how if given a couple weeks he could probably catch up to a mid 90s fastball.
actually, he then said if you give him 20ABs he would get a hit or 2. today.
I love Curtis Granderson. Just when you look at him and think, “I hate that this this guy has to bat leadoff today,” he promptly walks and steals second. Awesome.
So, I went to read the comments in the CC’s hurt article and was expecting a whole lot of “the sky is falling” both real and sarcastic…instead found Robinson T. regaling us with tales of his gym lol.
It seems that a hip adductor machine is already on his Christmas list.
Pole-dancing classes – crazy, riiiight?
Haha, I’ve actually heard of it before and have a friend who has taken them…it’s awesome lol.
What I don’t get is how it’s a workout. There’s like 30 women and about 5 poles. They spend 3/4 of the class standing around watching someone else spin for about 12 seconds.
When the girl is actually on the pole I could see how it’s a work out, especially if they are doing more intense things. Like I’ve seen my friend put all her weight on one hand while hanging on the pole. Plus she looks sexy while doing it, so I’m not going to stop her.
Wasn’t just me. The others joined in. Erica admitted to spending many an hour on the adductor machine. Oddly, so did DM.
I did not admit to such things. I’ve been on it, like, twice, and felt like a trollop.
If 100% of texters don’t text 1. for the text poll I’ve lost faith in baseball fans.
reply fail.
Make it hurt, Cano
oh boy, Ubaldo is playing with fire throwing 94 at the letters to Robbie…
Wow…this CC thing really fucking sucks. Abductor injuries are nothing to fuck with. It can get worse quickly, however it can also just clear up with icing and stretching. I trust that CC is DLed retroactive to his last appearance?
“It can get worse quickly, however it can also just clear up with icing and stretching.”
Sounds like a Ted comment there.
Like any muscle injury it can go either way. Icing it and keeping it lose and limber helps quite a bit. Ice to kill the inflammation, and stretching to keep it limber. Acupuncture, also helped out quite a few of my injuries.
McNulty: Frequent user of the adductor machine.
Is he really man enough to use that machine at the gym?
I know at my old gym dudes avoid that machine like it was broken.
LOL
I do an hour and a half of cardio a day
Awesome. Trying go get in 45-60 minutes five times a week and raise the intensity a bit right now.
Yeah my abductors and adductors cramp up quite a bit so I need to use the machines to stretch them out.
Also sounds like the talking heads on CNN telling you everything when they are really tell you nothing.
wow, in hindsight I am sooooo glad we didnt trade the farm for Jiminez.
Feed meatball please
I don’t know if I can watch Ubaldo much longer. Dude is worse than Papelbon.
nowhere near the douche factor, but those felt like 55 pitches, not 26.
Naturally, no runs were scored.
Hey,
Mr Happy is here.
Meant it for here!
Looking at their atbats, I think they get him second time around. Mark and Robbie just missed on a couple of pitches.
rispfail is back….0 for 3
Technically. It should be 0-2 because Swisher only saw one pitch with Grandy on second
hooray for RISPFAIL… now lets go hit some homers
Hey,
Mr Happy is here.
Is this an 0-2 or 0-3 with RISP? I am not sure if the Swisher at-bat counts against the RISP since he had two strikes when Granderson stole 2nd. I know the Yankees rarely steal, but I was wondering how something like this might influence RISP average.
Damn Santana is quick for a catcher.
If 100% of texters don’t text 1. for the text poll I’ve lost faith in baseball fans.
This will not end well.
Eeewww
whoa, that is a sexy adducter graphic…
Jason Nix can’t play short, he has no range.
Nice play Nix.
you’re right MSM, Jayson Nix can’t play SS.
At work and not watching the game. This is the game that looked like the obvious win on Sunday so of course it may not be….
You know Susyn….
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early for that. Ubaldo has thrown 26 pitches in the 1st, so we will be cracking into that disaster of a bullpen soon enough
NIX!!!
vintage Petitte pick off…
I am gonna miss that most of all when he retires again.
I missed the actual run scored because of people knocking on my office door.
It would only infuriate you.
I see a “1″ under the “E” column for the Yankees, so I’ll assume you’re right.
A-Rod pulled Chavy off the bag, and the ball out ran Swisher and bounced against the wall.
Do Not Disturb Sign at work FTW.
Were they just knocking on your door for kicks? Rascally kids!
I don’t get many kids knocking on my door. It’s normally staff.
Speaking of adductors I think I need a good stretch too. I also need to get my gym to get a hip flexor machine.
Kettlebell swings.
Brutal tendinitis in my forearms is just clearing up. I’ll stay away from using my arms at all for another week or two.
Right. Swings aren’t going to help with that.
Before I went and gained the baby weight, I was actually working with a trainer for over a year. Got into the best shape of my life, which is why I can throw out fitness advice and pretend I actually know something.
I also have nerve issues further up in my neck that I’m getting straightened out. Once I get those fixed the arms will be back in action.
Anyone else rooting for Iberia?
Absolutely. Those poor Iberians deserve a little something to smile about these days.
Forza Azzuri!
W
Well my guess for the trivia answer was wrong.
What happened, I thought Jimmenez was a shell of his former self.
Apparently he’s been good this month.
Yeah that changes my expectations a bit.
2-1 with a 2.05 ERA in June
Dear Yankees,
You are playing the Indians, start winning.
Thanks,
Fans
Hi,
It’s the end of the 3rd. There’s still a lot more game.
Dude, it’s the Indians.
Dear Bartolo’s Colon,
Your wish is my command.
Thanks,
Chavy
That ball carried a tad more than I thought it would.
Ugh…both Swish and Grandy just missed those.
Yankee scout watching Grienke.
Naturally.
Hopefully he doesn’t find out or else he’ll start vomiting and having diarrhea. You know because he can’t handle the big stage.
You never know what could set it off, unfortunately.
he’s got full no-trade. would he even come here? he’s, yknow. sensitive.
I don’t buy most silly memes, but I am fully convinced we’d have to take him out of a game due to pants-crapping at some point if he were a Yankee.
He’s said before he’d like to pitch in NY, or at least wouldn’t be apposed to it…maybe he’s got his SAD under control.
If this game stays this way, this will pave the way for the critics who say too many homers!
This poor kid sounds somewhat similar to those Camp Sunshine kids from a few years ago.
http://www.ragemaker.net/image.....crying.png
play baseball lil man, play baseball.
omg…he’s gonna get to play tee-ball w/ the yankees. that’s too cool…
Well Boston’s gonna win. They have kicked the crap out of Ricky Romero and are up 6-1 in the bottom of the first
Oh, well.
Poor Ricky Romero… must suck knowing you’re only a few pitches away from the DL
And that Jamie Moyer will take your place.
Meh, you can’t concern yourself with what the Yankees can’t control. Just win, and it doesn’t matter what they do.
Andy dealing!!!
Wow, that strike 3 to Tex was unfair.
Pitch FX says it was a strike.
Jimenez is dealing as well
If Tex is a dead pull hitter from the left side, why is he stepping towards the plate and cutting himself off?
OH NOEZ!!!!
TEH YANKEEZ GETIN DOMUMNATED BY GUD PITCHUR!!!!
I don’t think anyone has accused Ubaldo of being a good pitcher this year
Just wanted to use the LOL spelling. It was a motivation technique. They heard me.
he has been good lately
Chavezombie, do something!
rispchavez.
CHAVEZOMBIE!!!!!!!
THE ZOMBIE STRIKES!
Chavez is pretty fucking awesome
ZOMBIE RISPWIN!!!!!!!
Zombie time
WAIT what happened? I was talking to coworkers.
Single, Ibanez walked, two run double the other way by the Zombie.
LOVE the Zombvez!
Don’t talk to coworkers.
But if I keep talking, the Yankees keep scoring.
Right, keep talking then.
Eric Chavez is a motherfucking beast of a man.
AHH! Okay, delayed on the iPhone app – SICK CHAVY!
You’ve got audio, right?
Yup! It’s probably 15 seconds behind, though
Just checking. Nothing worse than “in play (runs.)”
Is that an error message?
Is that an error message?
What app?!?! I want it!
MLB At Bat!
Just guessing: MLB At Bat?
Late to the party comments:
1) At least CC’s only out two starts. We’ll manage.
2) LORD VOLDEMORT STRIKES AGAIN!
Chavez and Ibanez = GOOD FUCKING PICK_UPS!!!
Ibanez might be old but my man can fly around the bases for his age.
And just like that, things are looking up!
With one swing by the Zombie, Ubaldo’s gone from “unhittable” to “behind and having to face the top of the order next inning.” And he’s already thrown eighty pitches through four innings.
My new nickname for Girardi is Warren. The guy is always holding a baseball.
YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOAAAARRRDDD. YES!
Wow Russell’s been loads bad since that walk off
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
Fuck you, Casey Kotchman
FUCK ME!!!!!!
PLEASE DONT BE HURT!!!
Well he can get up. That’s a good sign
Oh for fuck’s sake.
Oh crud.
WTF happened?
Line drive off of Andy’s ankle.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
WTF PETTITTE
Motherfucker. How bad does it look?
Not great. Starting to look better though as he’s trying a few to the glove.
That try didn’t look good.
He’s coming out.
Andy, you better not be a fucking hero.
just pull him its not worth it.
kill kotchman
What happened? All I have is an injury delay on Gameday.
Andy took a really hard comebacker of the shing/knee area…doesn’t look long term serious, but it’s in a place that would make it really tough to keep going in this game.
Asses! Thanks for the info.
Kotchman ripped a grounder off Andy’s right ankle. Went down immediately. Got up, threw a pitch, everyone saw his grunt after the strike.
Andy hit hard in shin/ankle with comebacker
I am so nervous
Yea, Girardi’s not stupid here.
yeah no…his shin is in to much pain to go on…
He’s staying?!?!
No
GOOD. I’d rather this happen. I just want to hear the words “MRI negative”.
XRays negative, too.
Now we might have to go to the waiver wire
Greg. Stick with us. Greg?
Let’s get tests first. Then, we look at whether Garcia/Phelps/Warren can do the job. Then, and only the, we can check your Rolodex for Sidney Ponson’s number.
Great….now I’m depressed.
lololollolo
What’s Sergio doing these days?
Don’t let it depress you Bro go with your first line.
ARRRGH
THANK YOU!!!!!
For God sake even I knew not to even out there.
leave him out there
Well fuck
And suddenly the need for pitching becomes great.
wow, talk about a bad half day for the rotation. hope that is not serious, or yanks will be in trouble
One thing you have to love about Girardi is his willingness to pull an injured guy. Hopefully this is nothing. I think I remember Joe pulling Andy in 2010 in a similar situation.
Its all about the big picture, this game means nothing. Keep Andy healthy.
I actually think he shouldn’t of let him even throw another pitcher. It look obvious even to me that he should of been taken out right out.
Pauly been reading my comments on RAB? lol
On the day C.C. goes on the DL, this is just a lovely little mishap.
Hopefully this isn’t a DL trip for Andy. Probably not, but he will likely have his next start pushed back.
Crap!!!
All you guys are over reacting a bit I think. I’ll bet anybody 5 bucks that Andy misses at most 1 start.
I think he’ll be fine as well.
We need to all regroup and be strong….
..for Greg.
Looked about the same as what happened to Kuroda
I didn’t see shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, and Andy’s not missing a start. EOM.
Agree.
Back away from the edge slowly
damn it even game day won’t work on these crappy ass computers. All I can do is check the score on my phone
MLB At Bat. Do it.
I would, but my phone’s battery is low and I get crappy cell service in this damned building.
Wait, what happened to Andy?
Pussyfeathers.
Comebacker off his ankle
btw, get ready for the media to hit hard with the “yankees are getting old” and “the team is too old to stay healthy for the long haul”
Was anyone listening to the radio? They were literally talking about how the yankees are cruising and the loss of CC affects them and how quickly things can go wrong and not even 3 seconds later Pettitte got hit.I blame Susan Waldmen…
YUP, listening to CBS and that’s why I freaked out.
I don’t get it…CC is only missing TWO starts. Unless we get horrible news that makes everything worse, then why is this whole thing with CC so disastrous?
As long as Pettitte isn’t going on the DL then I still don’t feel too badly about the Yankees.
Have you ever hurt your groin? That doesn’t go away easily. And even when it does, its VERY easy to hurt it again. CC is a big dude as well, think of his weight on his groin as he explodes off of the rubber over 100 times per start.
Gardner was supposed to miss just a couple of days.
i’m blaming ESPN for CC. They kept going on and on about how he never is injured.
Who is coming in?
Eppley. Saving Garcia for his start.
Just be happy we’re not the Blue Jays, where all of their pitchers have walked off one-by-one with elbow and shoulder injuries.
Pussyfeathers?
Indeed.
YES.
thanks to Pat i can now agree.
lol
CC’s injury should be just a start or two. Andy should be okay if it’s just a bruise. it might be a rough few weeks but we will get by this.
AL East SP Curse, Boston with Beckett and Bucholtz, Toronto with their 4 guys, now the Yanks with CC and Andy. Hopefully Price and Shields are next
/half kidding
Andy Freed or Davis Wills, whichever one is which, is full of SHIT.
“If the play that [DeWayne] Wise made last night had come, against, the Yankees, there would be instant replay by the weekend.”
Take the inferiority complex and FUCK OFF. That’s some of the biggest bullshit I’ve ever heard. Quit pandering to your audience for a minute and try to be objective, shithead.
It had about a 10% chance of actually affecting the impact of the game.
That’s why they’re so stupid.
Hmmm…well this is interesting. Presumably it’s time for Girardi to make a decision: use Freddy today for long relief or try and make it through with the regular bullpen to save him for CC’s start. I wonder how this will work.
damnit Alex…
Arod really flashing the leather today
smh
Sterling- “Now they lose 2 pitchers in one day.”
We didn’t exactly LOSE Andy.
We didn’t lose either, really. We lost Pineda. We lost Mo. 3 weeks in the middle of the season can be faked with fill-ins.
Exactly. Oh, John and his dramatics.
Well, they lost him for today, but he’ll be fine. The replay showed it hit the ankle bone, the part that like balls out and has no protection. Everybody has gotten hit there knows how much it hurts, but very rarely does it result in anything but a bruise and some soreness for a couple days.
Yeah, though I do fully endorse pulling him so the pain doesn’t cause him to compromise his mechanics and suffer a worse injury.
Oh, absolutely. Last thing you want is for him to try to compensate and hurt his arm…even a Vet like Andy could do that subconsciously.
That makes me feel better. I’m sure it isn’t the first time Andy has gotten hit there, either.
That was like the Hannahan play last night, hence its called a base hit.
I blame Mike DeMuro, the baseball gods are getting back at us
wow, interesting inning.
I think Mo’s injury is the most devastating news we’ve had injury wise in, oh I don’t know, 6 million years.
What the hell is going on now? Gamecast tells me Eppley is in for Pettitte after four innings! He got hurt too?
Line drive off the ankle. Similar to what happened to HIROK
Took a comebacker off his ankle and came up limp after one pitch.
Didn’t look all that bad to be honest — very similar to what happened to Kuroda. I’m sure he will be back soon
They need to waive the rules of baseball to just allow Eppley and Rapada to alternate batters as needed.
They might as well use Freddy for the last 4 and save the pen. He’s not stretched out so that’s pretty much the most he can give you. Then let Warren start friday. Burning the whole pen today before a 4 game set this weekend just to save Freddy so he can go 4 or 5 on Friday seems dumb.
Agreed and it seems like Girardi just considered that.
I’m think Garcia should take the long relief right now, but that’s mainly selfish on my part because I would like to see Adam Warren start on Friday.
Umm…can’t be burning the pitchers here.
It looks like he is going to use the short guys to get out of the inning and then go to Garcia to start the next inning
We traded for Tim Collins?
Martin to Kotchman: Fuck You!
Good job all around there. Now stop trying to kill our entire team Casey.
By the way, here’s the Pussyfeathers explanation:
Thank you I needed the help.
Tis is a horrible game to be not watching.
Truly is. At Bat just makes Epp-pada blowing this inning that much worse as well.
I still think the CC news isn’t particularly awful unless there’s a setback. As it is…it’s TWO STARTS.
Can we breathe for a moment and step back from the ledge?
Now if Andy’s MRI has bad news then we have to do something. But as is, I’m not freaking out.
well this has just been a wonderful inning
Come on Yankees, we need to win, for Andy.
Russell!!!
(They broke Andy, those bastard Cleves.)
Anne of Cleves?
they also broke Joba. something wrong with those Clevelanders
And I use to love Ubaldo. Until he went to the land of the Cleves. What did they do to him?
Damnit…BABip Fail.
Oh, pussyfeathers X infinity.
I think the baseball are getting back at us for last night.
I reject this line of thinking for several reasons.
First of all, it’s not very likely that the Indians would have caught up if they had ruled Wise didn’t catch the ball.
Second, the baseball gods tried to get back at the Yankees last night by having Hannahan’s replacement hit a 3 run homer.
Third, there are no ******** ****, just like there is no *** **** ***.
This inning sucks…
hooray for the walking White Flag, Freddy Garcia!
Who would of want in the game?
Freddy’s actually been pretty good out of the pen
Grrrrrrrrr.
Here comes Garcia…and a preview of the horrors to come when he takes Sabathia’s place in the rotation
Well he;s not going to do it on Friday because he’s pitching today
if nothing else, i hope this long layoff really screws up ubaldo, it has got to be like 40 minutes or so
just an unfortunate turn of events… the game was really starting to feel good, too.
Just get outta this inning and regroup and let this offense do its thing.
The radio booth talking about Betances isn’t making this inning any better…
I do approve of the Kevin Mmahat reference though.
Wow down just one after all of that. Kind of amazing.
I super-approve of any Kevin Mmahat reference.
From his phenomenal wiki page:
“He owns and operates a ceramic coated painting company called Rhino Shield of Louisiana in New Orleans, Louisiana.”
The heroes of Donruss “Future Stars” baseball cards. I think Steve Adkins had one too.
Yankees are scoring a lot more runs tonight.
I sorta hope this game doesn’t last until tonight.
Sorry, it’s nighttime where I am.
Australia?
Stockholm
Nice. I hope to visit there one day, I hear it’s a beautiful city.
It really is. Also very friendly people and ridiculously beautiful women.
I love/hate the last part. I love ridiculously beautiful women, don’t get me wrong, but I have confidence issues with regular american woman…I think I’d go mad surrounded by Swedish models.
Well, it’s not like I’m hanging with Swedish models, but just walking the streets, you see beautiful women all over…on the trains, working at the hotel, waitresses, etc.
My wife’s of Norweigian descent and she, of course, would claim Norway has better women.
She gives you Norwegian Wood ?
They have bottomless adductor machines just lining the streets.
Let me know when to meet you at your gym. Would a camera get me banned?
Finally. Jeebus.
Well, two runs surrendered on only one truly solid hit, and a pitcher now in question.
This is why you never get comfortable in baseball.
They are winning this game and Andy will be just fine.
I’m actually looking forward to this White Sox series. I just want to hear Hawk whine his head off during each Yankees home run.
I’m starting to sense that this is not our day. Our bloops are not falling, warning track flyballs, pitchers getting injured.
This inning will feel like ages go when we beat the tar our of their bullpen.
Didn’t Kay say they were 15-0 or something like that when leading after 6 innings?
Yes, but we didn’t want Tilapia to know that he is already depressed.
due for a loss
And what a perfect time to give Ubaldo a 9 pitch inning.
That was a horseshit inning all the way around.
Pat D Third, there are no ******** ****, just like there is no *** **** ***
fill in the blanks please…it’s driving me crazy. I’m pretty sure the first one is Baseball Gods…but I can’t get the second one.
I think I get it, but it’s controversial.
well I’m personally an atheist, and I don’t think there are any overtly religious people on here anyway…so spill!!
I just don’t act overtly religious on a baseball blog, but if you insist…
I THINK it’s supposed to be “One True God”.
damn…i obviously knew one of them was God…but couldn’t figure out the four letter word. Good call.
You are correct, sir.
Sorry for the delayed response, but I fell asleep. The game had bored me that much. Even missed Cano’s HR. Thankfully I have a DVR and can rewind live TV.
You think this game is boring? How about this Nil-Nil Soccer game at the Half. Shoot me now.
Also, John and Suzyn can NOT shut up about how great Jayson Nix has played. And again with the “he’s a baseball player” nonsense.
Hey, idiots- saying “he’s a baseball player” is code for “he couldn’t crack the starting lineup for any team in the Majors.”
ugh, I’m so happy I’m getting to watch the game today…they really have a love affair with shitty bench players.
Jayson Nix’s career walk total: 71
Jayson Nix’s career strikeout total: 223
Wow, so scrappy!
The only thing that can make this game worse is to listen to john and Suzyn while it’s happening.
My condolences.
Better than flying completely blind and trying to figure out what happened via RAB comments.
Are sure about that?
are you sure about that?
It’s TERRIBLE.
Welcome to my baseball entertainment 145 games a year =P
I feel the pain. Even exciting homers are diminished by Sterling’s moronic catchphrases.
I use Mlb.tv Radio so a lot of times I’ll listen to the other team’s broadcast, but then once we start winning they start complaining, so it’s a catch-22
Same. It’s helped me learn a lot about what a good broadcasting crew sounds like. The Yankees crew is the absolute dregs.
My favorite so far this season was Washington’s. At least for the first game and a half…after that they turned into whiney little bitches.
WOOOOW!!!!
I have no words man sorry just doesn’t seem strong enough.
LOL @ the poll answer… the day after WiseGate of course, NO INSTANT REPLAY!!!!
the elusive ardo double
I’ll take it.
there is action in the Indians pen… I am getting happoer by the moment
happoer? MonnyJeee plz http://static.fjcdn.com/commen.....a2ff7.jpeg
YESS!!!!
ROBBIE CANO OPPOFIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!
CANO!
Hell yeah!!!
Thought that was off the end of the bat.
Really, really carried.
Cano has no ‘end of the bat’….
Is he using a life preserver for a bat?
WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
(Working like mad this afternoon, but had to stop in to say that.)
damn, that was some shot. Cano is unbeatable lately.
Now we’re talking.
Don’cha know.
Too many…you know…
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
How pretty was Robbie’s swing on that?
I didn’t see it, but it’s always the more goregous swing ever.
Please tell. A little pretty? Drop dead fucking gorgeous? I gots to know.
Honestly, very pretty, but not anywhere near his best. Because he took it the other way he was a little late on the ball, so the swing looked a little hackey.
it actually looked like he was just trying to fight it off, and he got just enough of it to put it over the wall. it wasnt a textbook Robbie homer, but effective!
So IO take it Cano tied the game with a homer? Solo shot? Tied at 3 now?
Sorry guys, you’re all I got
My phone died, and game day doesn’t even work on this damn computer.
ARod double. Cano 2 run homer to LEFT
TOO MANY HOMAHS.
Awesome, so 4-3 Yanks? Thanks Greg.
Yep
how quickly does it take for them to have a player get an mri and read the results. i would imagine the longer it takes them to get the results out, the worse the prognosis
I have found the perfect thing for all “Doom comments” during bad games.
http://images.fanpop.com/image.....00_210.jpg
Phew, I’m glad the Yankees don’t listen to Greg when he thinks it’s not our day!
Maybe they do listen to him and they got motivated!
no Lo-Ro-So?
Maybe it’s Fro-Ro-So? With a Lo in there somewhere?
mmmmm fro-yo-lo-ro-so
god do I love Swish. he is textbook awesome.
realistically, if the yankees wanted to, and if Freddy gets through the inning clean…he could start on Friday. Especially if they go to Logan here.
Freddy’s been great, but I’d really rather not take chances and go to Boone for the lefty
or not … great job Freddy
I guess Freddy’s white flag is at the cleaners.
as always, Tilapia… there to call me on my bullshit. My wife would be proud.
Fredddyyyyyy!
Freddy’s last inning?
It certainly seems like Robertson/Soriano time
Absolutely. Robertson and Sori, then go play wiffle ball in the park with that cute little albino kid.
Freddy 1.80 ERA, 214/254/286 opposing batter line in 15 IP out of the bullpen this year before today. Add on a great performance today, and he’s actually been good in his rare appearances.
Get Freddy Up?
Chan Ho Park: Mid June to mid July 2010
11 IP
.219/.255/.325
Amazing what short samples can do for you. I don’t know why it gets thrown at the window at times.
Not saying Freddy is great. Saying he has been very good so far. The small sample is the only sample to judge him on.
Anyone watching this twins/white sox game? The sox have 20 hits, and it’s the top of the 8th…
yikes
The Twins are teh suck.
“Sure Cano hit a homer, but he still had a bad approach there. He hit the ball to left field when he should have been grounding the ball to the right side to get A-Rod to third, where he could then score on an out.”
Hypothetical conversation between Sterling and Feinsand.
Please tell me you made this up completely…
I did, though Sterling was complaining that Cano was fouling the ball off to the left (before the homer to left) instead of hitting a lazy grounder to right.
Cano had to go and kill the rally with that homer.
“Hypothetical”
It could of easily been a “hypothetical” conversation that Sterling had out loud with himself. I could see him saying something along the lines of “You know Suzyn, if our good buddy Mark was here, I’d tell him: Sure Cano hit a homer, but he still had a bad approach there. He hit the ball to left field when he should have been grounding the ball to the right side to get A-Rod to third, where he could then score on an out.
You know he plans out conversations. He totally does.
But is the sky blue enough? And is the grass green? Are the shirts in the stands white?
That’s what I really tune in to hear about.
I hate falling asleep during games.
At least Kay was all like “Where’s Freddy Garcia!?!?” on the player of the game ballot, as he should be!
Who has a worse commercial:
1-877-KARS4KIDS
or
Cellino and Barnes?
Kars4Kids.
Correct, if only because KARS4KIDS is the worst commercial in recorded history.
Both commercials make the total hack move of using a phone number as part of the jingle, which is just inexcusable. You can also throw the radio spot for 1-800-VICTIM2 in there, but they don’t run that one anymore.
What’s the Celino and Barnes one?
Cellino and Barnes. An f’ing theme song for a law firm?? Craziness.
must be one of them classy law firms
C. those anti-smoking ads
I think he’s talking about the radio spots, and while the anti-smoking Tv ones are brutal, the radio ones are nowhere near as bad.
Lets go D-Rob.
2 K’s. DRob’s back.
Possible trade target. Yuniesky Betancourt. He and the Royals are manhandling the Rays in their 3 game set.
For what?
D-Rob is just a B+/A- command away to be the best reliever in baseball…heck he’s already one of the top 5 better relievers in baseball.
GODDAMNIT
OH SHIT! Fractured ankle!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck. We lost Pettitte.
Shit.
I say again. Fuck you Casey Kotchman.
WOOW
ANDY OUT FOR 6 WEEKS!!!!
Oh Fuck
6 weeks? fuuck
FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6 weeks fuck! Looks like they’ll be buying this deadline
Now we will have to look for a starter
Soooooo…what happens at the trade deadline?
http://images3.wikia.nocookie......geFace.jpg
+1
Oh fuck me in the fucking ass.
fuuuuck
so…this sucks…
shit 6 weeks is a long ass time. let’s hope we can try with adam warren. I like him a lot
Fuck me sideways. 6 weeks? Poor Andy. His comeback was such a cool story. I guess the Yanks kind need to add a starter, huh? I mean CC (assuming he comes back alright) – Kuroda – Hughes – Nova – ??? isn’t terrible, but I’d feel a lot better if they could get someone.
Two top pitchers down in two hours.
Let’s hope the Yankees don’t up the Blue Jays.
Beat me to it.
LOL!!!
How much rehab is required from a broken ankle? Is it worse that it’s his landing foot?
So. any trade ideas?
Literally have tears in my eyes.
Man up, woman!
Herp derp
Well some people want to see a youth movement WISH GRANTED!
Minor league pitching depth to be tested.
See? There’s a bright side to everything
Bring Joba back as a starter! (Can he hurry up and heal faster?)
It’s time for him to come back. He has a /shades/ JOB-a to do.
YEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!
YESSSSS
i don’t mean to be pessimistic, but i think 6 weeks is being overly optimistic. andy is 40, i hope he can come back by september, tune up for the playoffs and be back to normal by october
It’s only a fracture, though. Not a full break. 6 weeks should do it.
I’m not sure age is much of an issue here, meaning I doubt a fracture of a 40-year-old takes longer to mend than a 30-year-old.
That said, I wonder if the six-week time frame includes rehab, or the time when he can actually start throwing. If so, he’ll be out longer.
Trying (weakly) to see a silver lining, at least Andy will be fresh for the playoffs.
CRAP… this ain’t good..
So, until CC comes back Kuroda,Hughes,Nova,Garcia, Warren. Who ever is preforming least effectively over that stretch gets replaced by CC?
No. Cashman needs to go out and get a starter. You cant send A rookie like Warren against the Sox and Jays. They will eat him alive
I drink your milkshake!
Warren could be better than most of the starters available.
If a deal can be made for someone who can help I’m all for it, but CC is only out for two starts and Garcia/Phelps/Warren/Mitchell can fill Andy’s slot enough to get by. Not as good as Andy, but they again they’re not going to acquire anyone as good as Pettitte.
I think, unless Garcia is close to Chien-Ming Wang bad or Warren is crazy awesome Garcia is gonna stay in no matter what.
Kei Igawa please call your office.
Now all of a sudden the concept of Hughes really truly having turned the corner is WAAAAAY more important. Fingers crossed on that one.
Freddy’s gonna be the #4 until CC’s back, then the #5. I’m sure we can make do with Phelps/Warren/scrub as the #5 until the all star break.
One of those evil home runs would be nice.
All things happen for the best. I know it sounds shitty right now as Andy hits the crutches, but maybe Phelps or Warren can shine or maybe ninja already has some shit up his sleeve. lets remain positive, Yanks will be fine.
I like your outlook.
If only Andy just jumped
Zombie!!!!
Fuck it. No one this crying for the Yankees and I’m sure the Haters are loving this so BRING IT ON.
THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!!!!
Erica’s crying.
I’m a woman I CRY I have EMOTIONZ
Man up, woman!!!!
J/K
That time of the month?
Sorry, I had to.
That’s not very nice.
She will cry tears of joy when they win the whole fucking thing.
So will I.
Time to leave for work…good job Chavez…but this game officially is a sad win.
Thank you Chavy.
I’m trying to enjoy this game and the probable win, but I am really bummed about Pettitte.
Bases loaded and one out…the win is hardly probable here.
Even less probable now, but it was when I typed that.
Was Marson trying to fool the umpire that he tagged him first?
Does the 6 week recovery mean Andy will be ready to come back in 6 weeks, or be ready to start a rehab in 6 weeks?
Rehab. There’s no way a fracture will heal in less than 6 weeks and will be lucky if it’s 6 weeks.
How the hell can CC be sitting there smiling right now?!?!?
He probably doesn’t know that Andy has a fractured ankle
He’s not supposed to be smiling when he is also hurt. This is just inexcusable. Clearly, he’s not an ace.
Ok you got me.
He will be back in 2 weeks and Andy in 6.
They have a few minor league starters and the trading deadline is a month.
We’re down to the Core 1.
Bring back Ruben Rivera!
Ryan Dempster might be a pretty good possibility now.
If he wasn’t hurt.
But less hurt than our players. It’s all relative.
Damn. Still looking for possibilities.
Garza?
If there weren’t already 2 men on, I’d be in favor of Soriano pegging Kotchman for this injustice…
He didn’t do it on purpose. Andy is a gamer who tries to field the comebackers. Some pitchers get the hell out of the way.
If he did it on purpose, Casey Kotchman would have the greatest bat control in the history of baseball.
Another possibility is Joe Saunders from the D-Backs
Also going to the DL…
Where’s Mitre ?
SERG!
The whole damn league is heading to the DL. See what no steroids has done. Stupids.
I’m blaming Corey Wade.
Mariano is better at closing games than Soriano.
Soriano doing his best John Wettland impression (or taking Houdini lessons from DRob, take your pick).
Mickey Mantle is better than Robinson Cano.
I was having G7 flashbacks, since Rafael Sorianio occupies Javier Vazquez level of resentment in me.
The old Damon would’ve come thru in that spot.
you mean not-so-old damon.
Niiiice.
And of course Brantley will choose now to get on base.
Dude just walked that piece of shit. You have to be joking me. HIM of all people.
Soriano fears the strike zone.
Bring in Logan!
OH COME THE FUCK ON
Boone should be in now!?!
Boom. Shirt out.
Guess he know that he had a run to play with and took advantage of it. Putching to the scoreboard FTW!
PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!
soriano looked angrier than usual there
Is that possible?
mfiky … MFIKY!
I guess its possible.
Soriano is spending too much time with Robertson, adopting his Houdini act.
O’Neill was right. Should have brought Logan in, but all ended well.
and exhale
(and change pants)
WIN!!!
Okay, yay.
I can’t believe that piece of shit pulled that out.
sure did make it interesting
Mr Happy
With words of words of encouragement.
Seriously are you even Yankees fan?
Nothing wrong with being critical of Soriano, though calling him a POS was harsh. That was a a pretty crap performance.
Agree, but look up to all his comments. We are all welcome to our opinions, but damn I sure wouldn’t want to be with this guy in a foxhole.
You can be critical if you want to, but you can be critical about Cano if you want to also. The dude has been phenomenal.
If they ended up losing, that would have been a serious sad face game.
It’s still said, however.
i think if you walk in a run the un-tuck should be off the table.
Hahahahahah. Srsly.
Yeah, seriously. Just be humble about this one.
5 game win streak. Now back to reality. CC and Pettitte both gone.
Well we’ll get Nova here again coming up, then Warren and Sweaty Freddy will probably take CC’s turn, then we have a couple half decent pitchers again until we get back to Pettitte. Hopefully he’ll be fine in 5-6 days
nevermind, just read that pettitte has a fractured ankle. hooray for AAA guys.
Soriano gave up that run to make the score closer. Now Francesa can crow that the actual winning run for the Yanks came on a base hit instead of Cano’s homah.
Man, it is saves like this one that make mean really miss Mo. That was damn ugly.
Not easy to watch but its not like Mo never had a rough save or blew a save. Soriano has been great and is still better than almost every closer in the league.
