Last night’s loss to the Rays was a bitter pill to swallow, mostly because the Yankees managed to escape a truncated Freddy Garcia with a lead before the bullpen — and a rare Mark Teixeira error — turned it into a deficit. As you know, New York is in the middle of an eight-game losing streak at Tropicana Field, their longest such streak at a road stadium since dropping 15 in a row at The Ballpark in Arlington way back in the late-80s/early-90s. He’s an above average baserunner for his career.

I don’t mind it. It’s better than many other options, such as waitering. I thoroughly enjoy informing people that their accounts are all negative.
Servings not too bad, but if you serve bad food, or your restaurant has a poor managment structure it sucks so terribly.
I was a waiter in high school, and I hated it. Though I only worked for 2 restaurants, so I’m sure there are good ones out there. I also like the more steady and predictable income from being a teller.
Predictable income is one of the reasons I’m doing what I’m doing now. I’m making less overall than I was as a waiter/delivery driver, but I know there isn’t going to be a week where I work 60hrs but barely clear a couple hundred bucks because everybody is on vacation. Which happened to me last summer.
Yup. I did the pizza delivery thing too in college, and I made a lot of money in general, but I was tired of the weekends where I work like crazy only to get stiffed on half my tips and have it otherwise be slow.
I work at PNC right now, and they’re waaaayy cooler than TD Bank, where I worked in Jersey. I spend most of my day getting paid to comment here and practice my putting, since it’s a low-traffic branch.
Actually, worst job I had in college was the three days I spent working at the former Structure, now Express Men. AWFUL. Clothing retail is terrible.
I can imagine. I’d never even try that. I guess my worst job has to be TD Bank by default. Working till 8 on New Years eve, 5 on Christmas eve, Memorial Day, Labor Day, opening at 5 AM on Black Friday, and just generally having a Thursday-Monday work week doesn’t endear a man to his job.
I’d never to clothing retail, especially in a high end mall boutique like that…you’re just asking for headaches.

Wow, without the juice, Alex just looks lost sometimes. Or I should say the long term affects of the juice make Alex look lost at the plate. His bat speed is more like that of someone in an Old Timers game.
That’s just pure speculation, you know. He did just fine off the juice when he joined the Yankees up until a year or two ago. And you also have no idea what is causing his decline. A decent catcher throws out that base stealer and a fairly mediocre one gets that out at the plate. With either, the Yankees are out of this inning with a 3 run lead.

Catchers get the ball knocked out of their glove on contact all the time. Plus this was a short hop. Doesn’t strike me as a particularly poor play, and in fact I think it would’ve been a particularly good play had he made it.

These games count the same as any other game. Why should the number of wins in a particular 7 day span make any more of a difference than other games? And even if it’s somehow true that 4 is a magic number where if they win fewer than that they won’t be happy (despite being a .600 team!), why does the team’s happiness at the All Star Break matter? Will they try harder or less hard in the subsequent games?
In order to feel good about themselves in the standings going into the all star break, it would be wise to not giveup ANY ground to their divisional rivals. 4 wins would allow the Yankees some breathing room in the division

I mean, the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, and Angels are all clearly better, and I’d argue that the White Sox and Tigers may very well be as well.
That said, even one win in this series keeps them 6.5 back with six head to heads.
4.5 and 6.5 are drastically different. Even one win would(‘ve) been satisfactory in this series. Are you confident that David Phelps can deliver that win, against David Price, with the Bad News Bears behind him? Because that’s what the Yankees are in that fucking warehouse of a stadium.
They didn’t erase shit last year. The Red Sox collapse was why they made the playoffs. That and Girardi punting the last three games of the season.
Coming back from a nine game deficit is always partially both. More-so a Red Sox collapse in that case*, but the Rays going 6-1 against the Sox in September certainly played a part in that. And the Rays deserve credit for doing that.
*In contrast, the NL side was more-so a Cardinals comeback than a Braves collapse. Braves certainly shat themselves a great deal, but it took the Cardinals playing an unreal level of baseball to catch them. That, and the Phillies losing three of four to the Cards while sweeping the Braves.

the way it is right now, the Yankees have a poorly constructed pen and that results in relying on garbage pitchers like Rapada, Eppley or Qualls to pitch high leverage innings. It’s going to hard to win games with a pen like this one
The offense needs to put together some blowouts once in a while. That would definitely help cut down the innings for our high leverage relievers.

Chad Qualls should not be facing lefties (which includes switch hitters)… of course when you construct a bullpen where 3 of 7 arms are either LOOGY or ROOGY, that is what you get.
2 specialists in the pen is pushing it (unless you are fortunate like the Yankees were in June where they got a long run of primarily 7+ inning outings), 3 is just not a sustainable solution.

I’m just not a Swish lover like most of you. I know most of you think RBIs are overrated, but this guy will never knock in a 100 runs, and with this lineup, he should. He certainly comes up with enough opportunities.
I lived in Oakland during his Athletic days where he batted 3rd or cleanup and never understood why he would take 3-0, 3-1 pitches right down the pipe, RISP, when they were a team that always struggled to score runs in that God-awful park.
Plus, his post-season record speaks for itself. He’s not someone I’d want at the plate with the game on the line.
