Game 82: The Second Half

The Yankees officially kick off the second half of their season today, but they’ve only played the Red Sox twice so far. These two teams are going to see a whole lot of each other in the next three months, enough that New York’s current eight-game lead is hardly insurmountable. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time these two teams met at this point of the season so far apart in the standings. If the Yankees really take care of business this weekend, they could go into the All-Star break with a double-digit lead in the loss column over their greatest historic rival. That would be something else. Here’s tonight’s lineup…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
DH Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
1B Mark Teixeira
RF Nick Swisher
LF Raul Ibanez
3B Eric Chavez
Russell Martin

RHP Hiroki Kuroda

Tonight’s game starts a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.

DC metro, in all of its wisdom, gave me three orange line trains to New Carrolton before I got my blue to Largo. So I shall be a bit late. Let’s bury these fools, right here, right now.

  • Brian in NH

Or on NESN if you’re in New England: :)

      I dislike like this reminder…

Pedoria is just tooo gritty for his own body.

  • Countryclub

In response to the caption question: Beckett!!!

    • Brian S.

Also hate that Hispanic hating catcher they have.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Not even all Boston fans like him.

      • RI$P FTW

To be fair, not all Yankees fans like the Yankees players either. There is outright hated for some of the guys.

        • MannyGeee

Is this a stuart a driven comment?

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

    Here we go.

  • Dewayne is Wise

The yanks have a chance to burry this boston team and even shorten the managment career of bobby valentine.
I wonder if girardi has the guts to put the petal down and slam this redsox team down hard. That means no mercy.

    • RI$P FTW

      Lighten up, Francis.

  • RI$P FTW

Fenway’s food options looked decent: fresh fruit, fried dough.
Then again, I would bet that all stadiums have better options than YS. Can’t possibly be worse.

    • Dewayne is Wise

Troll dont like the taste of shit.

      • RI$P FTW

You’re saying YS’s food is good???

The Lobel Steak Sandwich is ungodly good. Almost worth the second mortgage you have to take to afford it.

  • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat)

Really, Kay? Beckett’s no ace anymore.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Why does anybody throw anything in the zone to jeter first pitch lol? I’d be ripping my hair out already if I was Valentine.

  • Hall and Nokes

With this matchup, what are we looking at, four and a half hours minimum tonight?

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Send jeter salty cant throw.

  • flamingo

    This is a good beginning.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Double steal here.

  • JobaWockeeZ

I wouldn’t rather have anyone up there now than Cano.

  • Brian S.

    Let’s go Cano

  • NYCSPORTZFAN

Cano is about to go all big fly with the bases juiced here in the 1st!

  • Tom

Costa and Smoltz…yikes (and possibly 4 to 5 hours of it?)

Smoltz already rolling out the 1-14 when they don’t hit a HR stat

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    I love this beginning.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Beckett needs a beer

  • Ivan

    Good AB Cano…

  • RI$P FTW

Bobby V still looks like a clown without the makeup to me.

  • Brian S.

Attaboy Cano. Keep it going Teix.

  • RI$P FTW

    Seixy Teixy!

  • Greg

    THERE WE GO

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Yeah!!!!!!! I like it!!!

  • swishers fauxhawk

    I like this.

  • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat)

Pedroia would have leaped up and caught that ball.

  • Hall and Nokes

For the record, I’m cool with 4.5 hours of this.

    • jjyank

      Likewise!

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Nice!

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Shitty pitch to swing at (and try to pull) in that spot, but I’ll certainly take the result.

  • Ivan

    Nice!!!!!

  • Tom

Nice Tex.. up the middle… (the pitch was oustide so if he really trying to yank it, it probably would have been a GIDP)

  • JobaWockeeZ

Make them boo in this inning.

  • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat)

Some guy I’ve never heard of warming up in the bullpen in the first inning = awesome.

  • RI$P FTW

How long before Beckett gives up and starts throwing FB’s at Yankees hitters?
It seems to be his MO when he’s getting destroyed.

  • jjyank

YES!! Kill them all boys, kill them all!

  • dontchaknow

with every pitch.. a boo.. im fucking loving this

  • Will (the other one)

God, this is the best thing ever.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Damnit Swish!!! First of all stat-padding GARBAGE TIME!!!!!!! Secondly, I wanted to have Beckett knocked out w/o recording an out.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Nice hook josh lol fried chicken fingers

    • jjyank

Heh. Yeah his curve is straight terrible right now.

  • Brian S.

That sac fly was almost disappointing.

  • Tom

Wow, that ball was smoked too. A bit of bad luck.

  • flamingo

    I’m starting to like Beckett.

  • Ivan

I dont want to hear no damn excuses that oh Beckett Thumb is hurting and he cant spin his curveball the way he want to. Please…if that was the case then go on the DL if it’s prohibiting you from doing what you can do best….

  • JobaWockeeZ

Okay Boston I admit it you can be funny.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

This is the greatest thing in the history of Radio. I don’t even mind that it’s Ma and Pa.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Lol the croud goes wild for a strike

  • Ivan

    Crush one Ibanez!!!!

  • JobaWockeeZ

Make them go to the pen.

  • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat)

Pedroia would have used his grittiness to catch that ball.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The best part about this is that it’s happening in the first inning in a 4 game 3 day series.

    • jjyank

Hell yeah. Let’s knock Beckett out and tired out that entire bullpen.

  • jjyank

LOL at the loud cheer on the 3-0 called strike to Voldemort.

  • Tom

MLB Network with the impressive stat:

Yankees last 4 innings against Boston – 16 runs

  • Rooting for U.S. Steel

    Mark Teixeira IS greased lightning!

  • Dewayne is Wise

Martin with the buzz kill coming up.

    • Greg

      Chavez is up first

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The way tonight’s going already, I’m not sure that he can even get Martin out.

    • Dewayne is Wise

      Told ya

  • flamingo

    This is amazing.

  • Countryclub

One more run would be great. Come on, Chavy

    • Monterowasdinero

      Extra-rispy!

  • Monterowasdinero

This game is making my torn ACL and medial meniscus feel better so far.

  • Tom Zig

    BURY THEM

  • Greg

    Good baseball

  • RI$P FTW

Jesus. I thought there 2 outs! hahaha!

  • Brian S.

Playing the game the right way.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Josh’s Pitch Count:
    28 Pitches
    12 Strikes
    16 Balls

He has no idea where the strike zone is right now.

    • jjyank

Seems to be his curve. It’s either flat in the zone or way out of the zone. As we have seen with AJ, if he doesn’t have the curve working, you can’t work with just a fastball.

  • Ivan

Everybody so far has had a great AB this inning…

  • JobaWockeeZ

Make this Freddy proof and save Kuroda.

    • Greg

There’s no such thing as Freddy proof in Fenway

      • JobaWockeeZ

        I’ll concede.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Kuroda must be orgazmic now after this lead.

  • Dino Velvet

Kaat was on MLB saying Boston will always have the edge when Beckett pitches.

    HA!

  • RI$P FTW

    Damn Canadian!

  • Mister D

Dammit, Russell. I really wanted a 1.000 OBP through the first turn of the lineup.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Of course Russel Martin is the only guy who doesn’t make good contact this inning. I almost feel bad for him.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Josh is going to need a six pack between innings

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

5 runs and they clear the pitcher’s spot in the order.

    Nice job.

  • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat)

That was fun. 8 more like it please.

  • Tom Zig

    What’s a Mauro Gomez?

    • RI$P FTW

Hopefully he’s like Mauro Rinallo – completely incompetent at his job.

  • Brian S.

    Oh Russ…

  • flamingo

I hope Kuroda shuts them out.

  • VT Yankee Fan

I’m letting all the Sawks fan at work know what the score is.

  • Bobby Banana

Of course Russell Martin is the only one not to do anything productive that inning!

  • jjyank

Well that inning was awesome. Even the (non Martin division) outs were hit relatively hard, especially Swisher’s.

Kuroda hopefully still has his A game. Hopefully they can get Beckett out real early and tire out that entire bullpen so they got nothing for the next 3 games.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Go get them sensi.
    No mercy

    • jjyank

Manny’s not there anymore, I think they’ve switched to cheap beer now.

      • jjyank

Ohhh nevermind, I just got that. I have a different definition of that word, amirite Riddle?

  • Greg

And of course Nava takes it off the monster.

    • Widget

You take doom and gloom to levels never before seen. Calm yourself boy.

  • Tom

    Damn routine flyball/Fenway double.

  • Ivan

    Typical fenway hit….

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Knock that shit out roki

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Red Sox lead off hitter reaches base.

Cue Greg’s rant about Sox fans and the MSM.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Damn I was hoping for a quick 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning, get Beckett out there while he’s still reeling.

  • Bobby Banana

Why do I have a feeling that five runs in the first isn’t enough to finish this first inning with a lead?

  • Tom

Nice lazy backhand Martin… that’s something that has to be blocked.

  • Mattchu12

I still think, and I’m not saying it because Nava got a big hit or Crawford got hurt, that the Red Sox would have been smarter to go with a Nava/Kalish platoon in left field than to invest in Crawford. Could have kept Beltre at third base, and either kept Youk at first or still traded for A-Gon and they’d be crazy good.

    • Bobby Banana

Let’s be happy that they didn’t keep Beltre, V-Mart, or Youkilis. Hopefully they let Papi go too.

      • Mattchu12

I think Papi is way gone. Pedroia probably is too as soon as he can, he was close with Tito and as a player, it’s been eye-opening how they treat their players.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Jesus martin i really think cervelli couldnt be worse.

  • Greg

    Fail by Kuroda.

Gave the Red Sox a lifeline

    • Widget

No he didn’t. If you call that a lifeline, I’d hate to see what you consider the poop burger Beckett just dropped.

      • OMG! Bagels!

Replying to Greg is a useless endeavor. They could be winning by 22 and Greg would be moaning about something

        • Greg

No. 22 is fine. Get above 7 runs and I wll be fine

    • Dewayne is Wise

      No mercy
      Sweep the leg
You have a problem with that mr kuroda!

  • Brian S.

Don’t give them any more Hiroki.

  • Monterowasdinero

Martin looking like Montero behind the plate. Lazy.

  • Brian S.

The fuck is this Kuroda! Come on!

  • Tom Zig

No lead is safe in Fenway. Keep on scoring.

    • Bobby Banana

Seriously Nava’s double is the definition of a cheap hit.

  • VT Yankee Fan

Sterling can stop fellating Ortiz at any time.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Wtf kuroda burry these worms

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

can we get a nice little 6-4-3.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      Or that…that doesn’t work though…

  • Frank

Typical RS game at Fenway. Down early, they will be back in this game by the 5th.

  • Greg

    Here we go

    • Widget

Why do you even follow the yankees?

  • Brian S.

    Oh my fucking God defense.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      LOL-fense.

  • Bobby Banana

    Shutdown Innings everyone.

  • Greg

They make this so hard on themselves. Its ridiculous.

  • Tom

Dumb and Dumbererer in the MLB Network…

“4 is the maximum # of sac flies you can have in 1 full inning”
(Smoltz explains to Costas that the 3rd out would not be a sac fly.)

    “Oh you are 100% correct”

…well except you can have an infinite # of sac flies if they are dropped with 0 or 1 out for an error. (and it would still be rule a sac fly)

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Cue bad news bears music
Roll out the kid in the wheelchair.

  • Tom

So routine flyball, somewhat deep flyball, single that beats the shift, hard hit grounder for an error

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Sounds about right for rallies against us this year.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

I see the captions are back – nice

  • Frank

This is looking like a replay of the top of the inning.

  • RI$P FTW

LOL! Now it’s Beckett’s fault that True Ace Kuroda is shitting the bed. Nice, YES.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Man some one go talk to kuroda

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    for fuck’s sake

  • Brian S.

    FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Greg

    SO FUCKING HARD

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    This dumb park.

  • RI$P FTW

Now it’s Fenway’s fault that Kuroda is shitting the bed. YES = integrity.

  • Bobby Banana

Way to give the game back. This is going to be a long night.

  • Cy Pettitte

Kuroda picks now of all times to shit the bed. nice.

  • TommyBoy

Fuck you Kuroda! 5 run lead and he’s about to give it all back the next fucking inning!

  • Tom

    Damn another routine out….

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Wow…your joking right?

  • Ivan

    Figures….

  • Nathan

    Are you kidding me?

  • Greg

    Good night everybody.

    God help them

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    Fuck, Fuck, Fuck

  • jjyank

I fucking hate this stadium. RBI double by Gonzalez is an out in literally every other ballpark.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Hirok!

  • Brian S.

Fuck you Kuroda. Fuck you so hard.

  • Frank

Not surprised al all. It’s going to be one of those games.

  • RI$P FTW

    LOL!

  • TommyBoy

FUCK YOU KURODA!Go back to the National League asshole!

  • Tom

Good Grief… two Fenway doubles, a weak single, an error and than a blast.

  • flamingo

This is a freaking joke, right?

  • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat)

The Red Sox matched their entire run total from Oakland in this inning.

  • Tom Zig

    holy hell.

  • RI$P FTW

Who will Singleton blame for that HR? Apparently, anyone but Kuroda.
Maybe his wig glue is infecting his brain?

  • dontchaknow

    holy shit

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

…were was that defense 15 minutes ago?

  • RI$P FTW

This game will be over at 2am.

  • Bobby Banana

Yankees just love to give away games vs. division rivals don’t they? That’s what you get for nibbling and pitching like a bitch.

  • Monterowasdinero

Yo Yo Ma! Kuroda sucks tonight!

  • stuart a

nice play by chavez on the error…

    kuroda coming up big.

yes announcers especially Kay are friggin morons. acting like Bostons offense sucks. They are 3rd in baseball and scored a ton more runs then the great yanks.

the horrible agon has 10 more rbi’s the our #3 hitter.

    total clueless.

btw this stadium is a bandbox joke….the hits to left anywhere else would have been outs…..

  • bobtaco

These games are always like this. It should’t surprise anyone. Whose lineup and bullpen do you like more?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Wow, Suzyn Waldman just hates Kuroda and A-Rod, this isn’t just tonight…she’s looked for any reason to rip on either of them all year.

    • OMG! Bagels!

      Maybe SHE’S stuart!

      • Get Phelps Up (formerly Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat)

        Stuzyn?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

…she was amazed that you could order pizza online. Posting things is absolutely foreign to her.

  • cjc

this outing must make adam warren feel pretty good

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Where the fuck was the defense?

  • Brian S.

    Kuroda better start running.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

+1 I really liked Kuroda before that article, but really came to respect him after it…then he comes and does this.

  • Monterowasdinero

Gritty inning without the midget in the lineup. Even without Peedy and Youk the Sox are a pain in the ass.

  • Kramerica Industries

Knew I would be late getting to this game, but saw the score was 5-0 about 10 minutes ago.

    Good.

Turn it on – 5-5 game.

    Fuck.

  • Brian S.

Batsu Ketsu right now. Kuroda has shamed himself.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Right on the field? That’s a little harsh. They should at least take him into the locker room.

  • Andrew

That was the worst kind of roller coaster ride.

  • Dewayne is Wise

I am ready to beat kuroda with a kendo stick.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Finally, now can our offense go back to kicking Beckett’s ass.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

The first inning of a 4-game set to be played in 3 days on the night before a double -header lasts 46 minutes.

They’re gonna need every second of the All-Star “break.”

  • RI$P FTW

    Short Round = Fail

    • RI$P FTW

“No time for outs, Dr. Andrews!”

  • TommyBoy

C.C. and Andy hurry the hell back if Kuroda is carrying us!

  • Tom

The problem is Kuroda can’t just live on the outside corner vs the lefties as they will just hit routine flyballs off the LF wall.

He’s going to need to pitch inside to lefties in this park.

    • Tom

By the way this is I think one of the reasons why he is so much better at home. (he can live on the outside corner at home)

  • Will (the other one)

This is not the best thing ever.

  • Countryclub

All I have to say is : SIGHHHHhHhHh

  • Bobby Banana

Yankees need to be play better against AL East teams. I’m not expecting them to win every game but if they want to hold on to first place they can’t keep shooting themselves in the foot and losing games they should win.

    • RI$P FTW

      Thanks, cliche.

  • OMG! Bagels!

It’s the first inning. It’s a tied score. Let’s think of it as a 0-0 game which most first innings are. Let’s stop ledge jumping. Let’s stop wanting to kill Kuroda. Let’s realize there are EIGHT FUCKING INNINGS LEFT and probably more.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I agree with all of this besides the not wanting to kill Kuroda part. He’ll be lucky to go 5, and we’ve got a long weekend in front of us.

      • Kramerica Industries

Fortunately, so do the Red Sox.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

True, and even with the shakiness lately Yankee’s Bullpen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Red Sox ‘pen.

          • Brian S.

Boston actually has a really good pen. Don’t underestimate it.

          • Tom

Not the middle of the pen.

The Yankees have 3 specialists in their pen. If they have to pitch multiple innings the Yankees are in tough shape.

I’ll definitiely take the last 3 guys in the Yankees pen, but I think the middle of Boston’s pen is better equipped to pitch 3 innings if needed.

  • cjc

what are the odds of a Beckett shut down form here on

    • Monterowasdinero

      Zero.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Grandy :D

  • Countryclub

One of the beat writers tweeted that Kuroda had only given up 1 run after the 26 innings that the Yanks had scored coming in to tonight. Unreal.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    1 nothing yankees

  • RI$P FTW

This game will be over at 5am.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Wow, besides Martin even the outs have been loud.

  • Brian S.

    This fucking game.

  • Monterowasdinero

ARod risp success. The ship is turning.

  • Kramerica Industries

Ya know – why on every YES telecast is there a soundclip every time some one reaches base?

I’ve heard this for at least two years now. Probably been going on longer than that.

    • RI$P FTW

Honestly, the stations do that because they think their viewers are drooling idiots that need CONSTANT stimulation and visual/audio effects to keep their attention. You see it non-stop in NFL with the dumb robots jumping around. The ‘news’ channels do that 24/7, too.

  • Bobby Banana

    Yankees please use the monster!

  • Bobby Banana

Seeing Saltalamchia hit that home run reminded me that it is possible for a catcher to be a productive hitter.

  • Monterowasdinero

That might have been a bigger inning had not Jeter swung at a high 2-0 fb. Frustrating decision by the Captain.

    • Bobby Banana

Seriously. It seems like the Yankees are always happy and willing to help out a struggling pitcher by swinging at balls.

      • Brian S.

We made him throw what, ten pitches?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I thought the same thing till I saw the pitch on Gameday. That’s the kind of pitch you swing at 2-0, fast ball high and over the middle of the plate.

  • Brian S.

So Kuroda better get that two seamer working or we are fucked.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Hell get DJ UP

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Hiroki is fooling absolutely no one.

are you kidding me this is getting ridiculous pop flys of the wall baltumore chops what next

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

all you TV watchers, was that a legit single through the left side, or was that the product of having a defensive statue at short stop?

    • Get Phelps Up

      Little bouncer past Chavez.

    • DERP

It was closer to Chavez. It looked like he was playing in a bit. Not sure any shortstop would have gotten that.

  • DERP

What the hell is going on here?

  • RI$P FTW

    8-6 is a few secs.

  • RI$P FTW

    8-6 in a few secs.

Get this ass out of the game!

  • Tom

The pitch that hit Nava looked like it was barely inside.

Nava stands on top of the plate and the turns into it……. pitch looked like it was maybe 3-4″ inside.

  • flamingo

    Kuroda doesn’t have it tonight…

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Anyway to warm up wise.

  • DERP

Get this POS out of here.

  • RI$P FTW

Is this a good game or a terrible game?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

It depends whether we win or lose. If we win, good game. If we lose terrible game.

      • RI$P FTW

        Makes sense to me.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Soooo … how’s DJ Mitchell feeling today?

  • cjc

final score 1089 to 1088 yankees

    • RI$P FTW

      This.

  • Brian S.

    Put in Mitchell. Kuroda sucks.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

tonight. Kuroda sucks tonight. He’s been great for a solid two months before this.

      • flamingo

        Yup, an important distinction there.

      • Brian S.

Fuck him. This is the biggest game of the year. We could have buried the Sox and this is what he did.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

This is the biggest game of the year?

          LOL

        • flamingo

…There’s another three games to be played this weekend. And the rest of this one. We can still bury them.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

We’re already like 7 games up on the loss side, I’m not really concerned with the Sox at all. They still have to overtake two teams to be in 2nd in the division. Granted one of them is the Orioles…but it’s halfway through the season and they’re still around. I’m sorry, but this is definitely not the biggest game of the year. If we were to some how loose the next 3 then I would say Sunday would be the biggest game of the year, but if we can just split this series I’d be more than content.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Hate that wall

  • Kramerica Industries

Kuroda was just rearing to throw a shitbomb tonight, eh?

  • Tom Zig

    Man what an awful game

  • Bobby Banana

Wow. That stat that Cone passed along about the Yankees scoring the least runs in this first half of the season than any Yankee first half since 1992 is pretty depressing.

    • Widget

Sucks that they are in first place and all. Damn.

  • DERP

So burn Mitchell and send him down tomorrow. Who do we call up with Wade?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Or burn Mitchell tonight, put him on the phantom DL and recall Phelps. Tomorrow would be his throw day, maybe he could give us an inning or two if need be.

      • DERP

Not gonna happen, but I would rather see Phelps than Thomas or Igarashi.

  • Ivan

    ok…

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Bring up ortiz tommorow

  • DERP

Isn’t this guy known for his strike throwing ability? What the hell is going on?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

…according to game day balls 2 and 3 were both in the zone.

    • DERP

Ball 3 was definitely not. Can’t remember ball 2.

  • your mom

Wow, last thing I saw we were up 5-0. Fucking Kuroda, way to shit the bed.

    • Brian S.

Two pop flys were doubles. But yeah fuck Kuroda.

  • Rooting for U.S. Steel

    And now… the pitchers’ duel!

    • Hall and Nokes

Ha! What’s wrong with rooting for U.S. Steel anyway? They made damn good steel.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Score 8 here so kuroda can give up 7 before girardi pulls him.

  • Bobby Banana

Funny how the Yankees allow the Sox to score 6 runs on a night when they don’t have Pedroia, Middlebrooks, Crawford, or Ellsbury.

    • RI$P FTW

Kuroda is a true ace. He’s grinding it out and keeping them in the game.

  • DERP

He’s having a shit game, but let’s not totally ignore that Kuroda was awesome for like the last month.

  • Dewayne is Wise

So now beckett becomes cy young.

  • RI$P FTW

I guess Beckett’s thumb is feeling better.

    • Widget

      Chicken grease

  • Hall and Nokes

Try to clear the pitcher’s spot at least.

  • Bobby Banana

Great. Now Beckett has found his stuff. I’m proud of the Yanks for playing well this year despite some injuries and issues. But I’m pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say that I’m disappointed at how shitty they’ve played against AL East teams.

  • DERP

Someone send Sandusky on this ump.

    • flamingo

I really hope I’m misunderstanding this comment.

      • DERP

You aren’t. I feel bad for saying that now.

      • RI$P FTW

        You should stick to Oprah.

  • Kramerica Industries

Well, can’t blame the offense if this game goes to the shitter.

Wasting six runs against Beckett is always a recipe for disaster.

  • Brian S.

    Kuroda wasn’t getting that.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    That was not a strike

  • Tom

That’s crap… that was a ball in the first inning.

Now that it looks like Beckett has settled down, it becomes a strike?

  • Dewayne is Wise

Wow kuroda has become the new AJ Burnett.

  • DERP

I want to see Clayton Mortenson tonight.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      no longer on the roster

      • DERP

What? Why wasn’t I informed of this.

  • flamingo

They’re just going to keep matching runs per inning and the game will never be over.

  • Bobby Banana

I feel like the prolonged top of the first inning maybe messed up Kuroda and affected the sharpness of his pitches. Next time he should just throw some pitches in the bullpen to stay sharp.

  • DERP

Hopefully he is settling in now.

  • Brian S.

Hey Kuroda, you don’t have to copy everything Beckett does.

  • Brian S.

    The fuck is Russ doing?

    • Widget

he’s been trolling the yankees all season.

    • Tom

Trying to bunt for a hit against a guy who was playing back and I think is normally a 1st baseman?

  • DERP

I’m so fucking pissed at the Chavez call. That was a legit terrible call.

  • mt

That was a good inning but I am so disappointed Kuroda looks so bad against depleted line-up (no Crawford, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Middlebrooks). Also lefties seem to serve ball off Monster – needs to pitch inside more.

Hopefully first inning delay (because offense took so long) is reason.

At least Beckett has excuse of 2nd start off DL.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    David Beckett

    • Bobby Banana

I think he meant “David (Cone), Beckett blah blah blah”.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Beckett is better now he had an 8 piece and few cold ones

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

This. The grease from the chicken and condensation from the brews are helping him get a better spin on the breaking ball.

  • DERP

    Fuck you Derek.

  • mt

Does Jeter braincramp offset the free out Big Papi gave us?

    • Tom

I think the Ortiz out was worse. That was the first out of an inning (with a guy on 3rd base).

It probably cost the Red Sox at least a run.

  • wow

    c’mon now…

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Shift killing us .

  • Brian S.

    I hate everything.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Nick friggen Punto.

    Lovely.

  • DERP

Why are you allowing hits to shitty fucking players?

    • mt

Wasn’t that what we did against Tampa – Sean Rodriguez, Elliott Johnson. etc.?

  • Tom

    Nick Punto?

  • Bobby Banana

Why in the world was Aviles playing there? And also the MLB really love to fuck with Yankee fans. We were having a nice, calm month and they just had to put Tampa and Boston on our schedule before the all star break.

  • Widget

Punto? Fuck this game. Can’t wait for Gomez Pile to hit his first homer.

  • mt

How many balls have hit Green Monster for Red Sox?

    • Tom

      Four.

Three of them are probably outs in most parks (the Ortiz single/throw out at 2nd didn’t have enough hang time)

  • Dewayne is Wise

Can kuroda please sop throwing the ball over rightside of the plate.

  • OMG! Bagels!

Why do I feel as if there is one 12 year old boy with 12 different identities on these game threads?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

because we are all you, Mr. Bagels. This is all actually happening in your head. Welcome to the Matrix.

      • OMG! Bagels!

That explains a lot. It couldn’t possibly be real.

    • Bobby Banana

With a handle like OMG! Bagels! One has to wonder if it’s you…

      • OMG! Bagels!

Do not underestimate the power of the bagels.

  • Brian S.

    Don’t give Kuroda any water.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

  • Bobby Banana

Boston can’t win games without that hideous wall. That’s why they did so poorly on their West Coast trip. No big wall at 310 feet, just an outfielder.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Why is Tex holding Papi on? he’s zero threat to run. Especially with two outs.

  • Bobby Banana

Hate the IBB to Ortiz. Ross isn’t exactly Jose Iglesias…

  • DERP

    Nice

  • Pat D

Well I see this has been a hugely entertaining game thread so far.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

  • Tom

Kuroda is certainly not pitching well, but that is the 2nd time he has stranded a runner on 3rd with 1 out.

  • Monterowasdinero

Kuroda really Sake tonight but we still in it!

    • Rooting for U.S. Steel

      Udon say…

  • Bobby Banana

Yankees seriously need to take aim at the Green Monster.

  • DERP

You know who sucks. Andrelton Simmons. I hope that guy busts hard.

  • captain kiwi

what a crazy ass game already. leave work and it’s 5-0, come home and it’s 6-6? GET TO IT YANKEES

  • Bobby Banana

That was a serious dick move by Reggie Jackson. No need to bring out A-Rod’s steroid use for the millionth time. Also who is he to say who is and isn’t getting into the HOF.

    • Pat D

He’s a living HOF member, which may allow him to vote on future Veterans Committee ballots. So there’s that distinction.

    • Countryclub

It’s not like he only talked about Arod. He went after a bunch of people.

  • Tom

So far Costas has gone through
    – the Yankees/Red Sox games take forever rant
    – the steroids/what do Arod’s #’s really mean if he breaks the HR record

He usually doesn’t get the soapbox out to the 6th or 7th inning. He’s going to have to dig a little deeper in his rant box…. maybe he’ll go the pitch count route?

    • Rooting for U.S. Steel

I shudder to think what a prolonged game will mean in terms of John and Suzyn breaking out the Broadway standards songbook…

      • TomH

Just so we don’t have to hear any trashy rock songs since 1965

    • Hall and Nokes

Thanks to Beckett, he can do complete rants between pitches.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Oh, he’s still got the New CBA, the Wild Card, the relignment of the leagues, the DH…he’s got plenty of ammo.

  • Brian S.

    Fuck. Why did you swing???

  • Bobby Banana

What the hell was that Robbie?!

  • Widget

    Not cool robbie, not cool.

  • Bobby Banana

I hate when Beckett psyches out our hitters by taking long and throwing off their timing. Hate it!

  • Bobby Banana

Swish should bat right handed here. If anything is hit remotely hard it would be off the monster.

  • Kramerica Industries

Loving this sudden spry-ness ARod is showing.

  • DERP

A-Rod showing us some flashes of his old self. Nice to see the trail runner move up as well.

  • Kramerica Industries

You’ve GOTTA be fucking kidding me.

  • Pat D

    Ah, pussyfeathers.

  • Widget

this inning had a chance to be awesome. damn it cano and damn it A-Rod.

  • Tom

Bad break off of 3rd – no secondary lead AND he hesitated

  • Pat D

Saltalamacchia just showed the Latin players how to play the game.

  • CC’s Hammy

Can someone tell me why Swisher was swinging on 3-0. Gotta love that agressive Swisher!

    • DERP

SO GLAD YOU DECIDED TO SHOW UP TODAY

      • CC’s Hammy

Yeah…couldn’t let this one go by without venting a little. At 5-0 I figured all was good. Lo and behold it’s going to be a long night again!

  • Kramerica Industries

Swisher singing 3-0 torpedoed the entire inning.

    Fucking idiocy.

    • Brian S.

Cano swinging at ball four. A-Rod hesitating on that ground ball. SO fucking stupid.

    • Tom

He hammered a 3-0 fastball right down the middle.

The only thing he did wrong was not getting it in the air.

  • Brian S.

The Yankees got themselves out of that inning. Beckett didn’t.

  • captain kiwi

    shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttt

  • wow

unbelievable. this game is mad tense.. they really need to knock beckett out of the game.

  • Brian S.

Gonzalez-Hispanic hater-Gomez. Kuroda needs to a quick inning.

  • ArchStanton

This team has a habit of making ridiculously dumb decisions that kill rallies, whether it be sending runners home with nobody out, hitting into weak DPs with the bases loaded, or whathaveyou.

Still, they’re in freaking first place by 5 games so it’s all relative.

    • Will The Thrill

Why do I feel like Swisher and A-Rod are responsible for 80% of the times that happens.

  • Will The Thrill

    Meredith Marakovitz is hot.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Lol, the radio booth is talking about the Higgs Boson.

    • Monterowasdinero

Is Higgs another AAA star coming up to the Sux?

      /kidding

  • Kramerica Industries

    Rats at Fenway?

    Will wonders ever cease!!

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

boo!!! I has to take the bus…hopefully i only miss like two innings.

  • DERP

    jesus fucking christ derek

  • Tom

Nice play Jetes…. is there any other SS in baseball who doesn’t make that play?

    • Will The Thrill

Other than Tex and Gardner, the range of our infielders and outfielders is suspect.

  • Monterowasdinero

DJ with the 6 inch range to his left.

    Awful.

  • 45yearyanksfan

swisher is an effing clown/bum… the guy in front of you walks and you swing 3-0 on a pitch you don’t drive somewhere???????????? can’t wait till this a-hole is outta here

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Can Martin do anything useful anymore?

    • Monterowasdinero

He may be letting his offense affect his defense..

  • Will The Thrill

Martin’s ability to block pitches in the dirt has apparently disappeared along with his ability to hit a ball out of the infield.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Yankees deserve that.

  • DERP

Fuck Kuroda. Stop allowing hits to crappy players.

  • Brian S.

    Fuck you Kuroda.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    Why is he still pitching?

  • wow

Amauro Gomez… no, really, Amauro Gomez.

  • DERP

Just get through this inning. Don’t let him face the top of the order again.

    • Brian S.

Boone Logan next inning. It will switch Nava to his weak side, then Kalish, then Ortiz.

      • DERP

        I’m sold.

  • mt

Beckett may still win his sixth straight game against Yanks – what a joke!

    • Will The Thrill

I still can’t believe the Yankees gave back a five run lead to the Red Sox D lineup.

  • Widget

the idea that beckett could get a win for his turd burger makes me sad.

  • Will The Thrill

    Justin Upton anyone?

  • stuart a

swisher is a joke and always will be. he sits dead red every pitch and could not hit 285 to save his life.

he has soft #’s. again he performs like this on the yanks, big advantage with men on base all the time etc..

kuroda was horrible tonight….beckett with no curve ball and they let him off the hook. the sawx lineup of misfits is till better then the yanks sad but true…

cano is the only hitter other teams fear….

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      Agnus?

    • Dewayne is Wise

So what are you wearing tonight stu?

    • MannyGeee

Wow, A Rod has himself an OK night, so it’s Swishers turn to suck? At least your consistent

  • Tom

    Defense is just terrible…

A halfway decent throw to the cutoff man nails AGon at the plate; and he’s only on 2nd due to the Jeter non-error and a wild pitch on a ball that should have been rather easily blocked.

  • Countryclub

That Jeter play had nothing to do with range. He just missed it….which is even worse IMO.

  • DERP

    If he walks Punto…

  • stuart a

martin is just lost.. offensively he has been beyond awful and defensively lately he has been bad.

    usually I like his defense…

    • Monterowasdinero

Yes-he is a head case. I am ready for Cerv. This team could use his enthusiasm.

  • Widget

5 spot here it comes. suck it beckett.

    • Brian S.

Usually Beckett doesn’t throw many pitches after 90.

  • wow

honestly, none of that was helped by Martin. Dude just can’t do anything right these days.

  • Countryclub

I’m not about to say Kuroda is pitching well. But the park and his D has played a huge part in this ugliness.

    • DERP

Yes, but he has allowed a lot of hits to real shit players.

  • DERP

Chaves is going to do something good here.

    • bobtaco

      and something dumb.

    • Tom

      And then do something stupid.

    • Monterowasdinero

      Yes he is….no he isn’t.

      But he wasn’t hurt!!!

  • DERP

    Fat Albers.

  • DERP

Cut Chavez. What a piece of shit.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Holy crap Chavez is slower than holy hell.

  • Kramerica Industries

    How slow is Chavez?

I thought for certain he had a double once it bounced back over Nava’s head.

    • Monterowasdinero

Not as slow as Swisher but very close.

      • MannyGeee

        Jorge Posada agrees…

  • Karl Krawfid

    Great Game Chavez.

  • mt

How many runners will get thrown out on bases – dreadful.

  • wow

well i see that the idiocy is still lingering.

  • Widget

why? why do stupid shit against THIS team?

    • mt

Same sloppiness they showed in Tuesday’s game against Tampa – they have had a couple of sloppy ones recently – not sure why?

  • Bobby Banana

Yankees have to have the slowest base runners in baseball. That was cringe worthy.

    • Widget

No way, Boston has Gonzalez, Oritz and a whole bunch of white guys. No way any other team is slower.

  • ArchStanton

    Good Lord.

  • DERP

Derek is fucking killing me today.

  • DERP

So glad that Bob Costas can teach about good fundamentals.

  • mt

Costas on MLB Network makes a good point – Jeter and Arod misread their plays which is not good but Chavez (unfortunately like most major leaguers now do) did not run to first full bore – only accelerated when he saw ball get over Nava’s head.

    • MannyGeee

That is fucking inexcusable…. Sorry, but seeing major leaguers jog out any perceived out just chaps my ass…

  • Hall and Nokes

I don’t know if YES showed it but MLBN showed Chavezgoing basically 70% to first watching the ball. Maybe Vince Coleman could get away with that.

  • Kramerica Industries

Well, that was completely, not, shocking.

  • DERP

Fuck you Derek. Suck more today.

  • Tom

Albers retired one batter that inning.

    One.

    • mt

And he walked LOL Martin which given his recent plate appearances should be a crime.

  • Brian S.

Of course. Miller, Padilla, Aceves rest of the way I imagine.

    • MannyGeee

We could be so lucky to see our old friend Padilla… He was mostly responsible for the 9 run lead loss back in May, if memory serves..

  • wow

    unreal…

  • MannyGeee

Question for YES viewers, since NESN was concentrating on how Daniel Nava is the second coming of Willie Mays…

Did Chavez slow up on rounding second or hesitate at all, or is he just that ridiculously slow???

    • Tom

He wasn’t at a full sprint out of the box, but he wasn’t trotting to first.

Looked like he knew it was a single out of the box and then when the ball bounced over his head he kicked it into gear (if Chavez has a 2nd gear)

    • Brian S.

He’s just slow. Physically and mentally.

  • Monterowasdinero

Chavez classic in showing little leaguers everywhere how to run a double into an out at second. So bush league. Man do we suck sometimes. How is this team so far ahead in the division?

  • Brian S.

    6-3ter

  • DERP

If the Yankees don’t allow any runs here, we will win.

If they do allow a run here, we lose.

    Anyone with me?

    • Widget

With Darnell McDonald getting the go ahead RBI.

    • Tom

I think it will take at least 8 runs to win this game.

    • MannyGeee

Ummmmm, that seems a bit premature. The Red Sox bullpen has not exactly been ‘good’… I have faith that they should be able to hang a crooked number up against Padilla, Aceves, or Miller…

  • Bobby Banana

Captain Double Play strikes again. I bet it will feel weird when the Yankees one day have a shortstop and catcher that can hit homeruns.

    • Racism

Or a shortstop that can field balls up the middle.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Kuroda???

  • Dewayne is Wise

Girardi is going to have him rur pole to pole after the game too

    • Racism

      You mean pore to pore

  • mt

All Nava seems to do is to try to punch one to left against wall.

    • Bobby Banana

Seriously. I think the Yankees would be wise to have that same approach but it’s like they forget it’s there.

      • mt

Agreed – but that would take some planning as to approach – here we have Swsisher swinging 3-0 after walks.

  • MannyGeee

OK the best thing about NESN just happened…
    @jennydellNESN.
    That is all

    • DERP

Are you new to the internet?

    • Brian S.

You do realize that there are billions of naked women with penis’ inside them on the internet right?

      • MannyGeee

All too well, my friend…. All too well.

I was referring to NESN specifically. She is no joke…

        • Brian S.

She needs a penis or two inside of her.

          • MannyGeee

            *afraid to agree*

  • Reggie C.

Is it tense in the YES booth… those guys are silent.

  • Mr. Pink

Screw the luxury tax give us Cole Hamels in 2013! Also anyone else thinking not signing CJ Wilson this offseason was a big mistake?

    • MannyGeee

      Not even a little bit…

  • mt

Is Boone Logan coming in before Rapada since they also want him to pitch to righty Ross (and AGon, of course)? – seems he has been getting in games before Rapada recently.

  • Tom

Boone Logan? I assume Girardi is going to leave him in for next inning if he retires Ortiz?

Otherwise, I would have to think Rapada is the better option.

  • Reggie C.

rotoworld citing that FOXSPORTS report: D’Backs willing to listen to offers for JUSTIN UPTON.

Lets get the ball rolling on some crazy trade proposals!

    • Brian S.

If it was the offseason: Granderson, Banuelos, Segedin.

      • Reggie C.

        I was thinking something like:

Mason Williams, Tyler Austin, & Manny Banuelos (apparently he’s throwing down in Tampa so that’s a good sign).

Its J-UP for goodness sake. .898 OPS last season and i think that’s something he’ll be good for for years to come.

    • Mr. Pink

Yanks have no impact prospects that interest anyone. All of our prospects worth paying attention to are 3-4 years away from the show. Plus they’re looking for a 3rd baseman. Mike Olt and Nick Castellanos come to mind as guys they probably would be interested in. Tigers and Rangers could use a guy like Upton, Detroit especially.

      • Reggie C.

They’re just looking for talent anywhere. A sub .500 team in the NL West isn’t a mere 1 good player away. AZ would demand a couple great prospects and good secondary pieces … a heavy price but one i’d consider.

    • MannyGeee

      Banuelos, Phelps, Williams

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Everything in the farm.

  • DERP

Ross kills lefties. 930 OPS for his career. Don’t want him facing Logan.

    • Kramerica Industries

Almost like you have a clue what you were talking about.

  • mt

I guess we should lokk at this game as 3-2 or 4-3 (down one run) and forget all the bad baserunning and defense that got us here.

  • MannyGeee

    Padilla is warming… Yay!

  • MannyGeee

Wow.. Miller got kinda squeezed n that one… Kinda close.

    • Tom

The ump has had an “interesting” game.

He hasn’t called much low in the zone, but that looked like it was high enough.

      • MannyGeee

And he called Cano out on the same pitch. Can we have our robot umpires now please?

  • Mr. Pink

    Arod please do something positive.

    • MannyGeee

Does almost grounding into a DP but not count as positive?

      • Mr. Pink

It’ll do. It seems like that’s all we can hope for from A-Rod these days. Groundball singles.

  • MannyGeee

    Hooray for defensively sound baseball!

  • Kramerica Industries

Gotta cash in on that break.

  • Mr. Pink

Yanks have to score here. The Sox are gift wrapping runs here.

  • DERP

We must have tampered with Andrew Miller again.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

It is OK to take a walk, Robbie.

  • Widget

Cano that was ball four. Stop doing that.

  • Frank

I hope Tex does something because I’m certainly not counting on Swish.

    • Mr. Pink

I don’t know about you but I’m not counting on either of them. I expect Tex to pop up to second and Swish to strike out swinging on 3 pitches. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

      • Frank

I agree but Tex does pretty well vs. Padilla

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Swing at Ball 4, take strike 3.
    Nice AB.

  • Brian S.

I fucking hate when Cano swings at ball four. He has done that twice in this game now.

    • Brian S.

Cano is the reason we are losing right now. Between that and the strikeout in the fifth inning.

  • Widget

    Tex DP. here it comes.

    • Mister D

      Nice call, dude.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    That was not a strike.

  • Monterowasdinero

The good news on the Cano K? It would have been an easy caught stealing at 3rd so be happy everyone!!

    /blind optimism

  • Reggie C.

Cano’s been so dominant in June and early July that i’m actually upset when he can’t drive the ball off the Monster.

    Oh well. Only one out.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Ooh!!! Tex and Padilla have serious bad blood.

  • Tom

Since this game has ha a little of everything, how about a lefthanded hitting Tex serving one off the monstah?

  • DERP

Thankfully they have their only lefty so now Eric Chavez will have a chance to atone for his sins.

  • DERP

Didn’t Tex hit a three run homer in the big comeback game?

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Grand slam.

      • JobaWockeeZ

        Actually never mind me.

  • Mr. Pink

All of our hitters should be batting right handed in Fenway regardless of who’s pitching.

    • Dewayne is Wise

      You mean left handed. Texyyyyyy

  • MannyGeee

Wow… That strike call or lack of is confusing me

  • wow

they’ve REALLY got to do away with the behind the plate camera angle. It’s useless.

  • MannyGeee

Haha. Late time out… Thatll piss Padilla off

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Reports from outside: It’s still hot as balls if you run 1/2 a mile in jeans.

    TEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Kramerica Industries

      I hate jeans.

The only place I would ever wear them is if I’m doing heavy yardwork/maintenence. Otherwise, in non-sweat situations, give me trousers.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’ve always disliked ‘trousers,’ I’ve grown to accept that I have to wear them in most circumstances, and have grown to tolerate them, but give me sweats or jeans any day.

        • Kramerica Industries

          Eh.

For me, living in Florida means that I rarely get to wear trousers without extreme discomfort. I’ve (unfortunately) become well accustomed to Florida way of dressing, which I firmly believe is more climate-induced than just because all the people in Florida are ignorant dumbasses.

Whenever I can get back to better climates on a full-time basis, I expect to be able to wear some of my preferred clothes again.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    Tex!!!!

  • DERP

Well done. I will pray for you Brian.

  • JobaWockeeZ

WOW I never scream the luck card but that fucking should be a goner.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Probably every other park in baseball. Definitely Yankee Stadium.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Tex!

  • Kramerica Industries

That is the only place in MLB where Tex could hit a stand up triple.

  • MannyGeee

hooray Tex! Fuck your triangle Boston!

  • Brian S.

I LOVE YOU TEIX! IM SO SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME!

  • Frank

Sweet- Tex continues to own Padilla

  • mt

Make that 3 of 21 inherited runners score against Padilla.

  • Widget

    thank you terrible ball park.

    • Tom

      Is this sarcasm?

That’s a HR in every park and potentially cost the Yankees a run.

      • MannyGeee

But it got stuck in that triangle instead of bouncing back and potentially making for a play at home. So the triangle giveth and the triangle taketh away I suppose.

  • Tom

So much for MLB Network’s stat on Padilla allowing just 1 of 19 inherited runners to score.

  • Frank

OK- Swish your turn. Just a SF.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Talk about getting home at the perfect time.

  • DERP

That was a dirty pitch. Not much Swish could do there.

    • MannyGeee

Not according to the 7 posters under this comment….

  • Brian S.

    Swisher cannot get an extension.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Leave swisher take your 10 milion and go.

  • Frank

I love Swish but clutch you are not.

  • MannyGeee

Come on Voldemort… Make something happen

  • Mr. Pink

Swish is garbage. See ya in 2013! Fucking pathetic for a guy with so much talent…

  • mt

I knew Swish would do nothing.

He hit a sac fly today so that’s more than we could hope for.

  • Widget

thanks for nothing nick. I won’t miss him one bit if they let him walk.

  • YanksFanInBeantown

    DAMN YOU STERLING!

  • DERP

Chavez is gonna do something big in his next AB. Hopefully it comes in this inning.

  • MannyGeee

WTF was that Padilla? Beer league?

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo (formerly StanfordBen)

Did El Duque throw that eephus pitch?

    • Yankeefan

I Remember El Duque threw that pitch to Arod And He Absolutely Crush It

    • eephus_pitch

      EEPHUS PITCH!

  • Dewayne is Wise

In this park not getting runner in is A sin.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Big hit there, Raul.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    LORD VOLDEMORT!!!!!!!!

  • DERP

    You Raul!

  • Widget

Padilla has been throwing the eephus all season.

    • Tom

I think it’s pretty cool how gameday actually labels it “Eephus”

not sure if they just started doing that this year, but for some reason I smile wheneve I look on gameday and see it labeled that way.

      • MannyGeee

        Awesome!

  • Tom

Ibanez…. that’s the way to pick your teammate up!

  • Frank

    That’s huge. Yay for Raul.

  • Mr. Pink

I should feel good about a two run lead but I don’t. Not in this ballpark.

    • Frank

Agree. 3 ABs yet for the RS. Game far from over.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The only time I feel good about a two run lead in this ball park is after the Sox have been called out for the 27th time.

    • MannyGeee

What DO you feel good about?

    • Tom

Eric Chavez agrees with this sentiment! (as do I)

  • DERP

Boone about to get another win.

  • Greg

Well it looks like things have calmed down since I went on my frusttration drive.

This is a big victory if we can pull it. It takes the pressure off us for the next three games and the Sox bullpen will have been wasted.

    • Frank

Don’t jinx it. Get back in the car. Check back in about 90 miniutes.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

        +1,000,000

      • MannyGeee

This… We’ll call you when it’s safe to come home

  • Mr. Pink

    Ibanez > Swisher?

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      Today: YES
      In general: nope

  • mt

Only downside to inning is you know Padilla’s beaning Tex he next time he gets a chance in this series.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Don’t know if you all remember, but Padilla & Teix have some serious bad blood. Padilla was staring Tex down on 3rd base through the entire Ibanez AB.

    • Mr. Pink

I think every Yankee fan knows about their beef.

  • Mr. Pink

    Another run would be huge…

    • Mr. Pink

      MOAR RUNZ!

    • MannyGeee

      Ask and you shall receive.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      Chavez agrees.

  • Brian S.

    Chavy Beisbol!

  • JobaWockeeZ

That was the softest thing I’ve seen in left field. Such an overrated POS.

  • mt

Where are the lefties in Boston bullpen?

  • DERP
    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      good call

  • Knoxvillain

What the fuck is with the RISP today? Keep it up.

  • MannyGeee

“Sure, this Atchison guy is alright, but he needs to do something about his lack of facial hair”

    -Red Sox Nation

  • JobaWockeeZ

On the bright side Freddy can’t be worse tomorrow.

  • Greg

Scott Atchison is the Sergio Romo of the AL. Nothing but sliders

  • Mr. Pink

Martin looking like Billy Crystal at the plate. Weak.

  • Knoxvillain

    Please die, Martin.

    • Jimmy

      Classy.

  • wow

Martin is certifiably bad lol… Glad we made the comeback. Now a clean inning please!

  • Monterowasdinero

Russ, I never thought I’d say this but……

    You have just been Cerved!!!!!

    /can’t take it anymore

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You guys all want to send Swish packing…I’d drive Martin&Stewart to the airport right now and pay for their tickets out of Dodge. At this point I really don’t care who their replacements are…they’d have at least a couple months grace period as far as I’m concerned.

  • DERP

So Brian Roberts has a torn hip. Another blow for the Orioles. He sucks though, so it might be a help for them.

They are getting Greinke, so whatevs.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      source for the last sentence?

      • Greg

THey are going hard after Greinke per MLBTraderumors

        • MannyGeee

          Link?

          • MannyGeee

I see Os in hard for Greinke…

            http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/.....einke.html

            But nothing on Yankees.

            • DERP

              No one mentioned the Yankees.

              • MannyGeee

My bad, I read ‘they are going hard after Grienke’ and assumed we were still shitting on Hiroki. Again, my apologies, I have to get my Troll Filter recalibrated…

                • DERP

lol I was wondering what you were talking about

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle
    • Mr. Pink

I don’t see them getting Greinke. Bundy and Machado are untouchables and they don’t really have any other interesting prospects besides that.

    • Brian S.

      They are?

    • DERP

Milwaukee’s pitching coach is the former pitching coach for Baltimore. I would guess he might have interest in Matusz (who threw a CGSO in AAA tonight), Arrieta, Britton, or Tillman. Also Jon Schoop is a nice prospect.

Obviously it will tough, but I think they can get it done.

    • eephus_pitch

I’ll never forget the time Harold Reynolds predicted Brian Roberts would break Dimaggio’s 56-game hitting streak.

  • TommyBoy

Jesus H. Christ! Get Martin off the team!

  • Tom

    Solid AB by Martin there.

    Crazy idea?

Don’t know if his back is still bothering him, but with the all star break coming up maybe have him catch one game tomorrow in the DH and then DL him (even if it’s a phantom DL) and use Stewart/Fist pump for the first 10 games after the break. Maybe that gets him back on track?

    • Knoxvillain

      Nope. He just sucks ass.

    • Betty Lizard

That’s about the best I can hope for at this point.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Okay Martin’s wRC+ is around 74ish after tonight. Hard to defend you from being a black hole when you actually are.

  • DERP

    Why is Boone still in?

    • bobtaco

To give up long fly balls…

    • Brian S.

      To face Gonzalez and Salty.

  • DERP

930 OPS career against lefties. Not surprising at all.

  • Tom

Yeah Cody Ross can hit lefties….

  • Pat D

    Jesus Christ, Boone.

    Stand prosperity much?

  • JobaWockeeZ

Can’t blame Logan when as someone says above Ross has a .930 OPS…

    • Pat D

      Why the hell can’t you?

      • JobaWockeeZ

        Uh yeah good point.

  • TommyBoy

    Yankees are going to lose.

    • Pat D

Yep, but only because you asked them to.

  • Karl Krawfid

Everyone Knows Cody Ross’s scouting report.

    Jesus Christ.

  • Frank

Boone Logan has caught whatever Cory Wade had

    • Greg

No he’s been overused. He’s either first or second in appearances

  • MannyGeee

Well… I guess Boone is a LOOGY again?

    • DERP

      He always was.

    • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com Mike Eder

      He’s a NOOOGY

  • wow

not if Boone has anything to say about it

  • Mr. Pink

    Here it comes. Bullpen implosion.

  • mt

At least Ross is a righty, as opposed to homer by Pena.

(Related note should we consider him for Rightfield next year?)

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

So..when I was on the bus on the way home and I saw Joe went to Logan I thought to myself “Why not go to Rappada here, start the 7th with Epply, then go to Logan.” I understand tomorrow’s a double header, but they (Epply and Rappada) would only bet throwing max 10 pitches if they did their jobs.

  • Kramerica Industries

They’re trying to give this back all at once…

    AGAIN.

    For fuck’s sake.

  • Monterowasdinero

    Extra innings/midnight game anyone?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Just leave em in

  • wow

ok, enough of Boone… seriously. Enough.

  • DERP

I am really fucking pissed that Logan was allowed to face Ross. Why not go Rapada for Ortiz, Eppley for Ross, and Logan for AGon and Salty. David could have pitched if anyone got on.

    • Greg

      Tomorrow’s a double header. That’s why

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle
        • Greg

I know. But Girardi’s reasoning is probably that he didn’t want to use al;l of his pitchers in one go.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

My logic is that you’re probably going to use secondary guys in the first game anyway…as in Mitchell, Wade, and Qualls, and use your epply’s and such in the second so why not use them tonight.

        • DERP

          smart man

  • Kramerica Industries

The last eight outs of this game, if there are to be that many, will just be fucking torture to get.

  • mt

We want an Eppley DP NOW!

  • mt

Something tells me 11 or 12 runs will win this game – not ten.

Logan is starting to fall off – not quite Wade territory but getting there. He has been used a lot so hopefully ASB will refresh him.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I cannot believe that Sheen’s got a centerstage. that disgusts me.

    • Reggie C.

      I can’t believe he’s got a ’41 Ted Williams game jersey…

      JESUS…

      • bobtaco

        in a drawer…

    • Mr. Pink

We live in a society that rewards stupidity. That is why Kim Kardashian, Snooki, and Justin Beiber exist.

      • MannyGeee

I would agree, but Bieber is not ‘stupid’ as much as he is a teenage sellout and a product of what I would consider piss poor upbringing. The kid is actually a ridiculously talented musician, but his parents instead let him go down the path of pop star shithead for the quick buck.

        #nohomo

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I wouldn’t say ridiculously talented, but yeah the kid’s got talent, and honestly at the end of the day for some people money is more important than respect. If an agent appeared at my door and said listen, you can either struggle for years, become critically acclaimed and considered a strong influence for years to come but only be moderately commercially successful (a la Oasis) or make more money than God (a la Bieber) I’d have to think long and hard about it.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nah, Beiber exists for having a minuscule amount of actual musical talent(kid can straight wail on the drums), perfect hair, and perfect teeth.

    • RI$P FTW

Mike Tyson was on. He went to jail for rape (even though everyone knows he didn’t do it).

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yeah, but he didn’t get asked to do it because he got a reboost in fame by being sent to jail for rape. Sheen was a good/great actor who had fallen out of the public light for the most part, and the only reason anybody began to care about him again is because he became a crack addict and then went crazy as a result of it.

      • eephus_pitch

Why would you say you know he didn’t do it?

  • Kramerica Industries

    Yep. Here we go again………………..

  • JobaWockeeZ

Can the crap hitters go back to where they belong?

  • MannyGeee

Well, that was a bum out… He got the GB, just ‘where they ain’t’

  • DERP

    If he walks Avila…

    • DERP

      shit…wrong team

  • Mr. Pink

Girardi should’ve started off with Eppley. Ross is a lefty masher.

    • Tom

Eh… You have Gonzalez and Salty 2nd and 3rd that inning; and Salty is way better from the left side.

It would have been fine had he got Gonzalez out.

  • JobaWockeeZ

At least Jeter wants to win. Good play.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Huge play by Jeter.

Would’ve been another chicken-shit hit for the Red Sox – glad that didn’t happen.

    • MannyGeee

But I read an hour ago that Jeter has no range and can’t catch a ball with a butterfly net…
      /confused

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I give Jeter a lot of shit for his fielding, but that was a nice play.

  • Frank

    Great play!

  • Tom

Phew… that had disaster written all over it.

Thank goodness Bobby V didn’t start the runners – since Eppley apparently strikes out so many hitters and is such an extreme flyball pitcher where you worry about getting double off.

  • Brian S.

    Jeter!

  • Frank

Well, here comes D-Rob in the middle of an inning. Don’t like this move. I’d have stayed with Eppley.

    • MannyGeee

      I think I agree here…

      • Frank

        Well, it worked out.

    • JobaWockeeZ

He’s using the better reliever in high pressure situations. Manage to win. I dig it.

  • Greg

WHat you could do is let Robertson get this out.

Nava, Kalish and Ortiz are all lefties.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Robertson can get lefties out, but I still don’t like this move. Now your asking Robertson and Soriano to get 7 outs w/ a 2 run lead and two runners on…and both guys tend to put runners on.

      • Greg

What I’m saying is that he could possibly bring in Rapada to play in the eighth

        • Tom

          That’s an interesting plan.

The only problem is if he gets into trouble you are committing Soriano to at least a 4 out save – there’s no way Rapada would be allowed to face Ross who’s due up 4th. So it’s a bit of a calculate gamble.

  • DERP

Come on David. Erin has her twitter ready.

  • Karl Krawfid

Epply not good enough to face Punto :(

  • Mr. Pink

Girardi compromising the bullpen for a game we will probably lose.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      ?

  • Kramerica Industries

More of that in the 8th, DRob.

No more runs for the guys in red tonight.

  • MannyGeee

DRob making us doubters look like real assholes! Thanks for that!!

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Save Robertson, score 50 runs.

    • Mr. Pink

One or two would be dandy.

  • Ivan

    Nice!

  • Greg

Again since Nava, Kalish and Ortiz are all lefties, Girardi can bring in Rapada to face any or all of them

  • Brian S.

Only one weak hitter out of the next 6. D-rob and MFIKY got their work cut out for them.

  • DERP

This pitcher sucks. Let’s kick his ass.

  • Mr. Pink

How is David Ortiz still good?

    • Zooboy

      Special milkshakes?

      • MannyGeee

        Read “Rice and Beans”

    • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com Mike Eder

I know if I say he took good care of his body, it sounds a little ridiculous. But I bet the guy is in tip top shape, aside from the fatty parts, and he was usually a DH or at worst a 1B. He didn’t wear out his body on the field.

      • JohnnyC

You have a real deadpan sense of humor.

    • Pat D

      Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh steroids.

  • DERP

I am actually coming around on Brian. I couldn’t stand him for the longest time.

    • Brian S.

      :: high five ::

  • Mr. Pink

Wow. Jeets. Weak AB. Everyone knows all you have to do is wait Melancon out.

  • Mr. Pink

Of course our fly balls don’t reach the monster…

  • MannyGeee

Hmmm, who knew that the Red Sox would trade what should have been their SS of the future for a set up man who can’t stay out of AAA… That Cherrington guy is alright by me!

    • DERP

The Reddick for Bailey-Sweeney isn’t looking so great either.

      • MannyGeee

But don’t worry guys, the Boston media told me that theo is to blame for all of this. So it’ll all work itself out

  • Monterowasdinero

We’ve never had a Vidal or a Nuno.

    It may soon be time.

  • Ivan

Remember when Mark Melancon was considered the better prospect than David Robertson?

  • Pat D

Embedded Yankee Melancon is failing miserably.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Nava is even worse than Matsui in the field.

  • Dewayne is Wise

The corpse of a-rod loves fenway.

  • Monterowasdinero

A day off helps ARod. Bat speed is increased.

  • wow

    RAY ALLEN?!?!?!

    • Greg

Yep. He’s gone to the Heat. If he’s healthy, the Heat are next to unbeatable

      • MannyGeee

        Very huge IF….

      • JobaWockeeZ

Really? He’s good but he’s old, Tough to see him do anything great other than shoot threes.

A true unbeatable team will be Brooklyn when Dwight comes…

        • Greg

On the Heat, that’s all he really needs to do.

With LeBron, Bosh and DWade taking attention, Allen can hit open threes all day.

    • MannyGeee

      muggsy Bogues!!!!

Wait, what are we talking about?

  • Tom

Cano needs to blast one here and reduce my blood pressure.

  • MannyGeee

Look at A Rod keeping the inning alive to give Cano a chance to make something happen.what a good guy. I imagine him to be a generous lover…

    Again, #nohomo

  • Brian S.

Allen and Rondo hate each other NEWS AT ELEVEN

    • JobaWockeeZ

Rondo is a prick. Good for Allen. Fuck Boston.

      • MannyGeee

And also, fuck Sweet Caroline and all these pink hat wearing assholes singing it.

        • JobaWockeeZ

          Yup exactly that.

  • Mr. Pink

These last six outs are going to be hard to get while keeping the lead safe.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Lets see if d-rob is really back. 91 fastball not good

    • MannyGeee

      K to Kalish looked legit

  • Frank

anyone surprised Ibanez still in LF instead of Wise?

    • Monterowasdinero

Not much ground to cover and Raul is crafty off the wall with shorter throws needed. He’ll be in in the 9th though if we have a lead. Tough decision because Raul has hit well tonight.

  • MannyGeee

    Wow, Aceves looking thin

  • Dewayne is Wise

    92 what happened to 95

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      TEH V-LO!!!!!!!!

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    That’s not a strike????

  • Kramerica Industries

Yep. Clean inning not possible. Just hope this doesn’t hurt them.

  • Brian S.

    Ugh. Here’s Ross again.

  • MannyGeee

Fuck… Ortiz can hit, man… Say what you want about him but dude can straight out hit.

  • Tom

I don’t like this ump… he seems unwilling to call both the high and low strike. Usually the umpire will call one of them.

    • MannyGeee

He’s been calling the low strike, just incredibly inconsistently…

  • Mr. Pink

That’s it we have to sign Ortiz next year! The dude does not age.

    • OMG! Bagels!

The minute we signed him he would age.

      • JohnnyC

The minute we signed him he’d test positive.

  • bobtaco

    Drob still doesn’t look 100%…

  • Frank

Say what you want about Ortiz. Dude can hit.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Criminy.

  • Greg

I would seriously consider bringing in Rapada to face AGon if Ross gets on

    • bobtaco

I’d prefer that to Soriano, but Joe says different…

      • bobtaco

the binder says 0-8… bow to the binder…

    • MannyGeee

you called it. Prob the right move.

      • Greg

        Actually looking at his stats

AGon this year has done better against lefties than righties

  • Ivan

    Typical D-Rob….

    • OMG! Bagels!

      Which typical?

      • Ivan

D-Rob never make thing easy…..although he usually gets out of it, which makes it all more surprising why Girardi would take him out.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Can we have a stress free inning please? I mean half of this lineup is garbage come on…

    • MannyGeee

Come back on Tuesday for the ASG…

  • Kramerica Industries

    Where’s Rapada?

    • Kramerica Industries

      Nevermind.

He’s pitched, like, three or four straight games. Can’t jump on Joe for that.

  • DERP

We should trade Robertson in the offseason. This act won’t last forever and it would be nice to sell high.

    • Brian S.

+1. Also you know a team would pay a hefty price for a cost controlled late inning relief pitcher to avoid handing out a Papelbon type contract. Look what Oakland and Houston got.

    • Mr. Pink

You’re crazy! Even with his walk issues he’s still one of the best relievers in the AL.

  • Brian S.

Does Girardi know that Soriano has struggled against lefties in his career?

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      AGon 0-8

  • Mr. Pink

Damn you David Ortiz. Boston doesn’t know how lucky they are to have you…

    • MannyGeee

      This. 1000 time this.

Cherrington is going to fuck up the Ortiz thing this winter and have to watch him play another 4 years in toronto or Tampa… And we will laugh alllll the way to the fucking bank

  • Hall and Nokes

    One more out to Mo

  • Frank

Disappointed in D-Rob. Gotta get the third out.

    • Betty Lizard

I’m disappointed in Robertson’s reaction. I just don’t like the displays of temper and prefer stoical acceptance. Just me, probably.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Definitely just you. I used to love watching Paulie go nuclear on water coolers when I was a kid.

        • Betty Lizard

Like Paulie’s antics in retrospect and love hearing him talk about them but in real time I prefer self-mockery or a scowl or a mutter to beating up on inanimate objects.

Wonder if Mrs. Robertson (hee) will tweet her disapproval tonight about taking Robertson out of the 8th?

  • mt

The relief pitching in this game has been shaky.

Walk on 4 pitches to Ross – ugh!

  • Ivan

    Wow interesting move here…

  • Dewayne is Wise

Joe really wants this game, soriano for 4 really

    • JobaWockeeZ

      Don’t blame him.

  • stuart a

    wow SOriano for 4 outs.

RObertson did not do his job again. he has not been close to last years abberation this year.

can’t they put this away please.

  • Greg

    The numbers.

    AGon against righties: .260/.324/.383
    Lefties: .285/.321/.439

    • Greg

      .269

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      0-8 against Soriano
      2-4 against Rapada

    • JobaWockeeZ

In conclusion he’s another overrated Boston bat.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Yikes.this feels like a mistake. Let Houdini do his thing. Sory for 4 outs????? Big uh-oh.

    • alittleblackegg

How big is the gap between 4 outs and 3 outs?

  • TommyBoy

Um, I guess Robertson sucks now.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Soriano vs. Gonzalez

Strap down! And hope this doesn’t end too badly.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

So our bullpen for one of the games tomorrow is seriously
    Rappada
    Qualls
    Mitchell
    and Wade.

Is there anyway that Hughes can pitch the day-cap of the double dip tomorrow? Hopefully he can pitch very deep into the game then we have most of if not all of our bull pen for the nightcap.

    • bobtaco

ahahaha… Hughes is due for a regression game like Kuroda I bet… his track record in Fenway is not golden… they better call up two RPs for tomorrow…

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If you actually believe in a player being “due” he had his regression game 3 outings ago, he gave up 6 in 4 innings against ATL, and got shelled.

  • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com Mike Eder

Here’s a shameless self post. When Robertson is decelerating the torque on his body, he usually slows himself down with his oblique, he’s now bending over and transferring the torque to his back and legs. There’s a GIF inside to show you his mechanics before and after.

  • Chop It Up

Give me a break with this “not a 4 out guy” bullshit, he makes like $15 mill a year, he can handle pitching to one more batter.

    • OMG! Bagels!

And he itches to get that shirt out. Go Sori.

    • TommyBoy

      +1

    • JobaWockeeZ

True but he’s a little girl at heart.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Soriano with the ready made excuse of mound problems

  • Kramerica Industries

All of this has happened with two outs and nobody on, by the way.

  • DERP

That was a gift. Soriano threw four straight balls.

  • mt

    0-9 against Soriano.

  • Kramerica Industries

    And………

    Exhale

  • Brian S.

    Yeahhhhhhh buddy.

  • Mr. Pink

Thank God. That could’ve been messy. Still don’t feel safe!

    :-(

  • Tom

It’s never easy… but they just need to get 3 more outs!

  • Greg

Best part of that is that he now gets to face Salty and then the rookies

    • Mr. Pink

Salty has been awesome offensively this year. Kinda jealous. I wonder what it feels like to have a catcher who can hit.

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Eh, his power numbers are there but he hasn’t been THAT good. But yes, still better than Martin.

        • Kramerica Industries

Wil Nieves would probably be better than Martin.

  • Monterowasdinero

0-9. 3 more outs to untuck.

  • DERP

If Chavez gets up, he will do something good.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    More insurance runs please!!!

  • OMG! Bagels!

Where have you gone Mo Rivera?
Evil Empire turns its lonely eyes to you.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      Ahh-woo-woo-woo

  • JobaWockeeZ

Freddy needs to go deep tomorrow.

    • Greg

      So does Morales and Doubront

      • JobaWockeeZ

Yeah but I don’t care about Boston people.

        • Greg

when we’re facing them, you have to.

    • MannyGeee

      TWSS!!!

  • Tom

What was Adrian Gonzalez doing on that groundball?

The year he’s been having he would get absolutely hammered in NY. (I guess there are enough other targets in Boston)

  • MannyGeee

I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but shit does Swisher look horrible as of late.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Well with Cano being a hitting god I think these will be the last games Swish will play as a Yankee. So there’s that.

    • MannyGeee

      Ball four. Yuck.

I was hopingt to activate reverse jinx there, but alas…

    • Frank

Agree. He seems to be making it an easy decision for the Yanks to let him walk.

  • Monterowasdinero

This is gonna be a high comment count game thread.

    It’s a new stat.

When RAB gets a game thread comment count over 900, we need a new way of categorizing things.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Quick, everybody start making useless comments! I want 1000!!!

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

        Doody caca poo poo face.

      • Brian S.

        I want 1337

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I love you. In a completely nonromantic and nonsexual way.

    • MannyGeee

How do we categorize it if 800 of those 900 posts are about how the Yankees are going to lose a game that they are currently winning?

Oh wait, that’s like every thread… My bad

  • Mr. Pink

Damn it! Why is Melancon doing well? I thought he was an embedded Yankee!

    • 28 thisyear

At thi point, he knew the Yankees were going to win. He had to pitch well so the red sox use him again. When him blowing up is necessary for the Yankees to succeed, he will. Right now he is building trust

  • Kramerica Industries

Swisher swung at ball four, and then struck out.

    Again.

    Helluva game, Swish.

    • Greg

He drove in a run. Cant beat him up completely

  • Dewayne is Wise

Swisher needs to be a platoon player”

    • Mr. Pink

Horrible at situational hitting, his walks are down, his strikeouts are up, but he’s still better than most right fielders out there.

  • Captain Gift Basket

Nick Swisher? Has anyone seen Nick Swisher lately?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

All you people who want Swish gone…who do you suggest we replace him with?

    • Greg

      Carlos Quentin

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Probably the best available option…but he’s not going to be cheap.

        • Brian S.

          Melky!…Mesa

          • Monterowasdinero

Well-we are winning with a catcher who can’t hit and Mesa would be a huge upgrade in defense and speed and save us 12-14M.

            Not a bad idea!

            • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

more guys who can’t hit probably isn’t a recipe for winning. They can withstand only so much offensive ineptitude.

    • JobaWockeeZ

The thing is we’re going to need a replacement soon anyways.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      Cole Hammels

      • Brian S.

        This

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

or Cole Hamels … either one

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

The only correct answer is Shin Soo Choo. Not fucking Carlos Quentin.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’d like to keep our prospects for now…between Quentin, Swish, Melky, Upton, Victorino, and Bourn there are plenty of guys who could be had for just money.

        • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

          NO I WANT CHOOOOOOOOO.

    • MannyGeee

Obviously a hybrid of Justin Upton, Josh Hamilton and our lord and savior Jesus H Christ esquire, of course!

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        Jesus was a lawyer?

  • JobaWockeeZ

Yankees score 10 runs but none of them against Melancon.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Melancon has been very good since they brought him back up

  • Kramerica Industries

    Salty/Gomez/Aviles

If Soriano can’t negotiate his way through that, then we’re at another level of fucked-up-titude.

    • Bubba

      This

  • JobaWockeeZ

Salty has a sub 300 OBP yet a wRC+ over 110 I think. The fuck.

  • DERP

I wonder what Salty thinks of Soriano’s untucking thing.

    • Pat D

It’s the way they play the game. It’s OK to an extent.

      He hates it.

    • MannyGeee

      Fiery!

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

These young Latino players have no respect for the white man. Makes me wanna puke.

      #Salty………………or #LukeScott??????

      • Pat D

        Both, I’m sure.

It is funny how Scott grew Ortiz’s mutton chops though.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Hey crabman if lf for the bombers.

  • Ro

What? McDonald in for “defense” at a place he didn’t defend all that well and Wise to RF? Where is Swisher and why isn’t Wise manning LF? Weird

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

huge RF … good to have speed there
Swisher is the opposite of speed

      • Ro

I get that RF at Fenway isn’t any paradise, but I have yet to remember when Swisher was replaced only to weaken LF. At least that’s how I feel about McDonald and having him on the team as a bench player worries me. I do not remember any fine moments while on the Sox team. I don’t know though. It’s just weird.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

I can’t imagine he can be any worse defensively than Ibanez

  • MannyGeee

Martin just let out a visible “FUCK” when that ball went through his legs… Just having a bad life right now…

  • Greg

    Nasty slider

  • DERP

Salty bailing out Sori big time.

  • mt

He refused to throw him a fastball – now school the rookie.

  • TommyBoy

    1

  • Brian S.

Wise-Granderson-McDonald outfield. Boston fans are ready to start a riot.

    • Pat D

Most of them are leaving and unawares.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Justin upton but the yanks dont have the prospects.

  • DERP

Is there any ugly chick here that can help Russ out?

  • mt

    This guy swings hard.

  • JobaWockeeZ

I’ll cry manly tears of joy is Sori opts out.

  • Zooboy

At this point, I’m not sure which will make me happier: two quick outs and a Yankee win. Or two quick outs so I can stop listening to Bob Costas.

Come on Sori: make it stop!

  • MannyGeee

Mauro Gomez will be the new Melky Cabrera… After Cherrington trades him to KC for Bruce Chen or some shit.

  • Brian S.

    One more! MFIKY!

  • Dewayne is Wise

    4hour game

  • DERP

Everyone go to bed right now

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    and untuck.

  • DERP

    Untuck that bitch.

  • Pat D

OMG! A win in Fenway with no home runs!!!

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Finally a call

  • Get Phelps Up

    Untuck.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Untuck that shit.

  • Kramerica Industries

    And ballgame.

3-0 at Fenway this season. A couple more wins this weekend would look nice.

  • MannyGeee

    Activate untuck in 3…..2……

  • Brian S.

    Baaaaaaaalllgaaaaaaaaaaaaame

  • OMG! Bagels!

Amazing how everyone thought Sori’s untuck was disrespectful when he first started doing it, now everyone’s waiting for it. Funny how saving games can change a Yankee fan’s attitude.

    • BK2ATL

So true. Just the typical hypocritical crap that occurs on these boards.

  • Monterowasdinero

Excellent result and Girardi saved Rapada for tomorrow!

  • JobaWockeeZ

2 more wins to take Boston out of the race by the break.

  • BK2ATL

Gotta say, I love Soriano’s jersey untuck deal. It’s badass without showing up the other team. Kinda like, day’s done. Time for a cold one.

    Yanks win!!!

    • mt

I actually like it too – did not think I would. It is very internal but gives message of “it’s over”.

To contrast, Joba’s fist pump is obnoxious but not quite on level as Valverde’s act or Rodney’s Usain Bolt imitation.

      • mt

Also in terms of yankee fans hating it I think criticism was originally that it was not “yankee-like”. sort of like criticism of the walk-off pies.

I do not remember everybody going crazy about it when Sori was on Tampa Bay and doing it. I remmeber it but just thought it was a little strange. It never really annoyed me when he did it at TB.

I loathe Valverde and “hat to the side” Rodney. Also Papelbon.

The real hypocritical one is Joba – no way to defend that as “classy” or not showing up other team.

(As an aside, I hate the Mets but it was funny to watch their walk-off win against Papelbon yesterday when he imploded on the mound at Citi Field. He also got hit ny the ball and did a funny pratfall – priceless.)

        • BK2ATL

The walk-off pie thing criticism wasn’t because it was un-Yankee-like. The criticism was that AJ Burnett looked like an ass-clown doing it, which resulted in the un-Yankee-likeness. Yankees’ don’t look like assclowns in uniform. LOL!!!

Closers are just strange birds. They each have their own way of psyching themselves up, and explode in different ways when successful.

We’ve just been spoiled by the calming presence of Mo for these many years.

And even though he’s in the NL now, I still chuckle when I see Paplepuke screw up.

      • BK2ATL

Those guys are pretty extra with the celebrations. Hahaha!!!

I just think Soriano’s gotten a raw deal with the NY media, and now some fans as a result of that, as if he’s done something negative. It appears that he’s just a introvert, in contrast to Nick Swisher. His teammates appear cool with him. Never read that he’s a clubhouse headache or anything.

I just never got the intense dislike for him around here. He got hurt last year, came back and pitched pretty effectively. This year, he’s earned every cent of his contract with Mariano being out.

If the dude wants to untuck his shirt after the game, shit, let him. He ONLY does it when he closes out a win.

  • Monterowasdinero

    Sox nipped and untucked.

    • Tom

      Nice!

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’m just saying I’d bang Meredith.

    • DERP

      Doesn’t compare to Jenny Dell.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

OMG I’d trade Meredith, Jack Curry, and Al Leiter for that.

    • eephus_pitch

I’m starting to warm up to her, but she still talks funny.

  • mt

    Great win.

I hope tomorrow Giradi actually uses Wade (even in both games) and DJ Mitchell (and Rapada of course) – 4 off days coming up soon. Not sure how many pitches Garcia can throw tomorrow.

  • Tom

Huge win…. takes the possibility of a Boston sweep out of the equation – really the only meaningful bad outcome coming into this series. Yankees will be 5.5 up on Boston at the break no matter what

Also, losing after scoring 5 in the first would have meant dealing with the inevitable “Is Boston back” stories at ESPN.

Now they just need to get 1 out of 2 tomorrow and basically have all the pressure on Boston to win on Sunday.

  • Greg

AND. They didn’t hit a homer

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      wow…you’re right.

    • Get Phelps Up

And were also 4-10 with RISP.

  • Monterowasdinero

Soriano never shakes off a sign and he doesn’t just throw one pitch.

  • DERP

Steve Pearce just homered off CJ Wilson.

    • Greg

You’re point being? A jab at the fact we gave him up for cash?

  • mt

I like how Girardi sensed the moment and went for it. The sweep was the one thing he had to avoid and after being up by 5 runs and then by 3 runs late he used relievers more than he would if he were conserving them.

As we can see by Kuroda’s performance, no guarantee that “good” Hughes does not lay a giant egg tomorrow against a higher scoring Red Sox team in Fenway and Garcia may still be limited. Morales has been dealing and Doubront made us look foolish in the 15-9 game.

Glad we have one game under our belt in the win column. We hopefully at least split tomorrow.

  • OMG! Bagels!

I remember Jeter having to tell Swisher to put his cap on when he was doing an on-field interview with Kim Jones. There is a decorum to the Yankees but untucking shirts isn’t one of those things.

  • Andrew J.

I know. We r overpaying Soriano at $13 million per year. With Mo gone, thank God we got him closing out at Fenway.

  • Kevin

DOubrant made us look bad in April..since then he has been less then stellar. I will be happy with a split.
