Game 95: Escape from Oakland
ByThese last three games have been frustrating but not like the typical nightmare series the Yankees have in Anaheim. The Athletics are just playing well right now and the Yankees … aren’t. It was bound to happen at some point, you don’t play .735 ball — which New York did for nearly 50 games — all season. Here’s the batting order…
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
DH Alex Rodriguez
LF Raul Ibanez
3B Eric Chavez
SS Jayson Nix
RF Dewayne Wise
C Chris Stewart
LHP CC Sabathia
This afternoon’s game starts a little after 4pm ET and can be seen on YES. Enjoy.

Off topic but according to fangraphs Nova throws a curveball or slider about 42% of the time. How long will his elbow last?
This year I should clarify.
I hope that you meant to put Chavez at 3B and not Swisher.
At least the Yanks have the big man on the bump. Salvage something for us, Carsten.
Well, no complaining about ARod being head of Cano today from anybody.
Well, there’s always this:
Well, there’s always this:
Sorry about that.
I can’t get enough of Monty Python!
Jeter 391/429/587 career against Colon. Seems like an odd day to pick to give him a routine day off (if it is just a routine day off).
I think these off days are planned ahead of time.
That’s my point. They knew Colon was pitching today ahead of time.
Normally if the give someone a routine day of rest, they try to time it to be against someone that is a bad match-up for the hitter.
True, but how big is that sample? I’m not sure if you can count the Colon stats from like 8 years ago when he was a different pitcher. Jeter was 2 for 3 off Colon earlier this year, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s as big as the sample size gets.
I’m not defending the decision to sit Jeter, I would have started him. But I don’t think it’s a big deal considering the situation/sample size.
Most of it was long ago, but it did continue this year. There’s plenty of reason to think he would have success against Colon. Also, Nix doesn’t play much short. It would make more sense to do this with Phly Ball Phil than with CC on the mound.
Probably not a huge deal, it just seems very odd, and makes me think this may not be just a routine day off.
Yeah, that’s a good point with Nix playing short for CC instead of Phil.
According to Girardi, via LoHud, it is routine though:
“Routine day off for Derek Jeter, even with the team riding a three-game losing streak. “I think you have to be able to rule out the circumstances and make sure your guys stay healthy,” Girardi said. ‘It was hot playing at home. We had a hot week. We came out here, we had a long flight. He’s played three days in a row out here. I’ve only DHed him once in a long time, and he played in the All-Star Game. I just thought, if we’re going to give him a day, today was probably the day.’”
…which would be the right thing to do. You don’t base decisions like this on a three-game losing streak when you have a very nice lead in the standings AND it’s July.
Yeah, I’m probably just being paranoid. Hopefully it is just a routine day off.
Yeah would have made sense to give him the day off yesterday then.
Let’s hear it for Jon Lester and the NCAA!!
Sox are making a comeback as usual. 11-7 in the sixth
As usual? They are the ones that gave up a lead yesterday.
Yes but they rarely just go away. Especially in Fenway
Don’t worry. The Jays have Brandon Lyon and JA Happ in the pen now.
…..which is why we should torch Fenway.
Let’s do it. You get the lighter fluid and torches, I’ll get the pitchforks.
I’ll get the flea repellant.
Wilhelmsen pitching for the third day in a row. Probably makes him off limits for tomorrow.
Another game against the A’s. Another hungry young rookie looking to make a name for himself at the Yankees’ expense….
*waits*
Nice tripple A lineup today.
You’d say that about the A’s lineup as well, and they’ve been putting it together. That’s still major league hitters out there.
That poor pitching mound…
They should reinforce it like they do pro wrestling rings. Lots of springs, etc.
Also, make sure there’s a sledgehammer and midget underneath at all times.
Lance Nix is Gi-normous compared to Jayson. The discrepancy between those two is twice the size of the discrepancy between Scott – Jerry Hairston.
Very similar to the Bret -Aaron Boone discrepancy, though.
I see the mission burritos have been treating Bartolo well.
Indeed but I still miss Bartday a little bit.
At least the Mariners are flying in from Tampa and we have the shorter trip.
lol colon and cc fat
My g/f is shutting me down again because of Pillowpants.
LOL great reference.
Absolutely not safe for work or children, so be warned. But For those that didn’t get that reference, you should watch this.
Hahaha! Thank you for saving me the trip to youtube. Awesome!
Boyfriends and girlfriends talk about sex stuff Randel.
I completely forgot that scene leads into Pickle-Fucker.
I love that movie. Randel (both movies) is one of my favorite comedy characters EVER. Dude is hilarious.
His shit or get off the pot rant towards the end of Clerks was great.
I personally love the Death Star contractors rant.
Haha, you know I never even realized it until that rant, but he’s right, there had to be private contractors on the death star.
Yup. My other favorite part is when Dante’s girlfriend discloses how many blow jobs she’s given, and as she leaves he yells “Try not to suck any more dicks on your way through the parking lot!”
Then that homeless guy starts to walk after her and Dante grabs him and yells “GET BACK HERE!”
One of my favorite scenes, another of my favorites is when Jay and Silent Bob put the ‘I eat cock’s’ sign.
Between Pillowpants and Listerfiend it’s amazing anybody gets any action…
I’m thinking Pillowpants would make for a great new meme for when the Yankees shut out an opposing team. Or vice versa.
The A’s pitching staff inspired the original post, so I fully support that proposed meme
Haha, We just have to figure out the proper wording…
Tolo has his pillowpants on?
(Pitcher throwing shutout) is Pillowpants.
The Athletics are too young of a team. Maybe when they’re 21, they’ll pee me out.
This is really the best YES booth.
Agreed. Love Singleton for play by play, and Cone is the perfect color analyst.
Kind of glad San Diego extended Quentin. I didn’t want him going to an AL contender.
I wanted him going to the Yankees.
Nope.
Yep.
Nu-uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Bartolo Colon. #shouldvekept
Nope
Don’t ya just love hindsight?
SCORE RUNS MEOWWWWWWWWWWWW
GOOD WORK
Tex would have gone to third on that.
Just tuned in. Grandy better not bunt so help me god…
Pepper is a lost art? I used to love those drills in high school.
Get at least one here.
You know what happens now right?
Do it Tex. DO IT!
Love me some BABIP luck.
Well at least they won’t lose 1-0.
Bloops of death hahaha
BABIP win
Love it when BABIP goes the Yanks’ way.
Odd rally. Not a hard hit ball, except for Cano’s, which went for an out.
Fuck you BABIP
BABIP giveth
Grand slam incoming
HE’S A SLAP HITTA!!!!!!!!!
somewhere stuart a is crying in his basement
YAY! ROD!
two run rbi double lets throw a parade…he sucks cuz it wasnt a home run…drop him in the batting order…
forgot to give him a raise
OMG dude, are you ever happy…like ever??
stuart a is going to complain about
A-Rod’s singlesGranderson’s strikeouts… something else.Bingo. Look above
I’m guessing that was a fake.
Stuart a is probably attending his summer school classes to make up for pulling the fire alarm during wood shop class.
I think he’s actually an old guy.
I picture him sitting in his front yard on a lawn chair, yelling at kids walking by on the sidewalk who stray onto his property and spraying them with a garden hose. “GET OFF MY LAWN!”
My guess as well. Most younger guys are probably more open to advanced statistics. Constantly regurgitating the same crap about RBI’s over and over just screams lonely old man to me.
No, stuart a will just cry himself to sleep tonight. Complaining about anything else is beyond his brain functions.
YEAH
Ike Davis would have hit a 5 run home run…..
Sincerely,
Stuart a
PILE ON NOW!
Suck it stuart a!!!
Fail. Warning-track power or eveb off-the-wall power means a younger A-Rod would have hit the ball out, or at least knocked the wall down.
Should have resigned Colon IMHO!
Pillowpants is the busted dishwasher keeping me from enjoying this inning.
Just don’t stick your…thing…in the dishwasher.
*snarls and shows teeth*
Seventeen hits and only three runs in that inning?
Good thing is if the A’s make the postseason (they won’t), the Yankees will at least have seen more of their young pitchers once or twice.
A successful inning. Could of had more if not for Cano hitting right at somebody and Colon going to the changeup. Of course that is probably a fallacy.
*Could’ve
Could have had more, but in reality they were also lucky in where some of those balls fell. I’ll take it…every inning.
True
Paging stuart a. Will the real stuart a. please stand up?
We’re gonna have a problem here.
Dammit I always do that!
The biggest reason I don’t have alternate handles, it’s a pain in the ass.
Yeah, I always forget that my last post was under a joke handle and forget to change it back.
Ibanez needed to get a run in with one out.
Colon went to the changeup with Ibanez. That’s a pitch he rarely throws so it probably caught Ibanez off guard.
So, while I was in the middle of my response about the whole death star contractors thing two pretty girls walked into the shop…they asked how I was doing. Almost like a sitcom before I could stop my self I blurted out “I wasn’t just discussing the details of Star Wars online!”
*face palm*
Haha, at least they laughed as if they were laughing with me and not at me…
For your sake, I hope so
That’s quite the bottom half of the lineup we’ve got going there. Sheesh.
I’m getting a bit fed up with Girardi’s decision to play Nix all the time. I know he’s solid defensively, but -0.3 WAR and a 0.0 dWAR (Not bad, but it sure is not great). The thing is Girardi will never stop with the DH for Jeter and A-Rod, I just think that Nix needs to go back to AAA, as long as he’s not out of options. Maybe it couldn’t hurt to see what Pena, Bernier, or even Antonelli have to offer for a few games. He should not have played 4 out the past 6 games.
They were facing lefties (except for today). There really aren’t better options on the roster now.
Dude I’m eating some cinnamon swirl toast and it is so bomb.
sounds delicious. I still find it hard to believe that a poster on here doesn’t approve of cinnamon raisin bagels.
Who’s that? I love Cinnamon raisin. I mean I’m more of an Everything bagel sort of guy, but how can you not approve of them?
I think it was Paul something with a V. and OMG! Bagels also disagreed about their deliciousness.
Wait…OMG Bagels! disagreed about the deliciousness of a bagel? Something is wrong here.
Most other bagels are much better than cinnamon raisin. My favorite is the bialy, however.
Dig the Flagel!
My favorite sweet/savory combo is the monte cristo: a sangwich made of french toast with ham, turkey, and swiss cheese all melty inside.
Exactly EVERYTHING bagels FTW.
My local bagel store has pumpernickel everythings. YUM!
Word
Nothing against everything bagels, they are great if you want something savory. If you want something sweet, I’m telling you the deliciousness of cinnamon raisin is waaaay underrated on these boards.
That’s fine on an English Muffin.
Raisins sucks.
suck*
You’d think I kicked your puppy or something. Sheesh.
I don’t like cinnamon raisin bagels cause i hate raisins but a place by me has cinnamon burst bagels that are to die for. The outside is perfectly crispy and the inside is super chewy. That bagel with butter or cream cheese is to die for. Cinnamon swirl toast is awesome as well.
The umpire in the Orioles Cleveland game should be fired.
What’d he do?
…and which one is it?
CC’s been quite efficient so far.
The rok has nice legs
Damn that must have been long gone, from Sterling’s call anyway.
It was a bomb.
The Grandy Man!
*Too many strikeouts
w00t!
Grandy!
Colon just got Grandersowned.
The Grandyman can.
Pedro Ciriaco is playing RF. IS THERE ANYTHING HE CANT DO!?!?!?
Fail. Pedro Ciriaco CANNOT FAIL.
Hit HRs
You shut your whore mouth mom!!! He can hit homeruns, he chooses not to because they aren’t gritty enough!!
Is he allowed to be gritty even though he’s hispanic?
No, he doesn’t hit home runs because he’s lazy.
/Salty’d
Yes, for Ciriaco the normal rules about race don’t apply because he’s a journey-man AAAA’er playing for the Red Sox.
To be fair it was the Yankees that let him hit every meatball thrown at him.
Who do we root for in the Orioles-Rays series coming up?
Sky-Net to come online and nuke the stadium.
That’s what a friend of mine calls “The Pat Special.”
I always root for extra innings.
Alternating wins.
Injuries?
Seriously though, the O’s. I still don’t believe they’re a real threat. I know the Rays don’t have Longoria, but Joyce is back and the pitching is still legit.
100% agreed. The Os are gonna do themselves in by the end of the season. The Rays might need some help.
The asteroid.
Like I said earlier, the home plate umpire in the Baltimore/Cleveland game should be fired.
Is he just calling a terrible game, or what?
I think he is, but after seeing the few reactions of twitter, I may be wrong. Probably letting my hatred of the Orioles cloud my judgement.
Cespedes is a Cuban smurf.
Justin Smoak or Brandon Belt as change of scenery candidates? In a world where Teixeira doesn’t have a NTC, this offseason would you trade for either of them straight up for Teix? Would the Giants/Mariners do that?
I don’t know enough about Belt, but hells no on Smoak. He’s just been too bad for too long.
For some reason I thought he was average away from Safeco…but he’s just 87 wRC+ away.
Justin Smoak? I wouldn’t trade Chris Stewart for him if the Mariners paid the shipping.
I’d drive Stewart to the airport and pay for his flight to Seattle. I hate him that much. I’d rather have somebody else suck more than him.
Am I the only one that thinks Cespedes has a really odd body type? I’ve never seen such a barrel-chested person lol.
See two posts above. You’re not the only one
Sometimes it’s ok to go “a” to “m,” like if you really care about the person.
It’s never ok to go ATM.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoRQEQUi9NM
TOTALLY NSFW.
Hahahaha the best quote from that was Randel saying “You sound like my mom.”
Rosario Dawson said it was ok.
YOU NEVER GO A TO M!!
Seriously, loving the Clerks references. Those were my go to movies for me and my friends when we needed to watch something at the end of a party night back in college.
Seriously…my friends and I used to marathon these movies every so often. I think I’m going to watch Clerks 2 after the game tonight.
I might do the same I forgot I had a copy of it.
When Inge beats you twice in one series…it hasn’t been a good series…
Dammit CC, I want to trust you with 4-0 lead.
Now that we have allowed a home run to Brandon Inge, I kind of hope we lose. That just ruined what has been a great game.
So what? That didn’t ruin shit, they’re still winning 4-1.
Dammit it’s not enough that they win, they have to win the way I want them too!
You perplex me. Honestly, you do.
Watching Ibanez try to climb the wall was kinda funny.
Is CC on a ~100pitch count today? Or can he go 110-120?
Please stop giving up bombs to shitty hitters.
its always nice to surrender HRs to awful hitters
smh…KURT FUCKING SUZUKI?!?!?!?!?!?!
Wow. We need you to do better CC.
Giving up HRs to Suzuki and Inge at the Coliseum….
Brandon Inge looks like Rory McIlroy.
And wow. Leave it to the Yankees to allow Kurt Suzuki’s first homer of the year.
give it all back CC. Please. The sweep must be maintained.
lol fuck you CC. allow more homers to shit players.
Settle down, CC.
Tough hop? Get in front of the ball!
no matter what CC does the rest today, it cannot be considered a good start for him.
lol
Well, unless he pitches a CG shutout, it’s a bad start for him.
Seriously? What if he keeps the at 2 and pitches 8 innings? That’s not good? Step away from the ledge man.
If the Yankees win the World Series, I’m going to be standing there on the Canyon of Heroes during the parade thinking “smh how do you give up a homer to Brandon Inge.” UNACCEPTABLE
BASEBALL PLAYER
pathetic… back up infielder that cant field..
Anyone here know what “bohica” means?
If Google is right, I’d rather not think about it.
Haha. I tell my ladies “bohica” after they go “atm.”
ATM is not okay. I do not want to be tasting that.
You know, we could get into a huge discussion about this…but not the time or place. Plus…I’d rather not be judged any more than I have been today.
That’s a personal preference thing I suppose. I have no problem with me going V to M, for even a girl going P to M. So, considering that you’re Bi (you did say that the other day, right?) I get why A to M is more appealing than it is to me.
By the way, no judgements. People are who they are, and I love that about society.
Yeah, I am lol. But in all seriousness, if a girl asks for it…why not give her what she wants
Right now, it seems gross. But in the heat of the moment…I guess I can see it
This is a redux of the game CC pitched against the Reds. Yankees give him a lead and then CC slowly gives up the lead on serving up homers to scrubs.
C’mon, CC! Bend, don’t break!
YESSSSSSS!
I can accept the Inge homerun because power is really all that Inge has to bring to the party.
Kurt Suzuki, CC? Come on now.
Suzuki always hits CC well.
Nevermind, I take that back. But he does have 3 HRs against him.
.214/.313/.571 with 3 homers and 7 RBI before today.
Hughes start>CC’s start.
No. CC start = Phil’s Start.
CC’s start isn’t even over yet, how about we wait until we have all of the available information so we don’t look like morons in a few hours?
Looking like morons in a few hours is a feature, not a bug.
Only because it’s expected from Hughes, that bullshit isn’t expected from CC. I still think he’s pitched well…but a homer to Kurt “I faked being good for a few years” Suzuki? That’s not cool.
Good lord. I know CC is the ace, but 2 runs against him and the Yankees are still winning and we have commenters saying its not a good start now no matter what? Holy unrealistic expectations, Batman.
They still dont think the A’s are any good. Despite them outplaying us in this series.
That doesn’t even matter. YCPB, right? Every single player in the MLB is a very, very talented ballplayer. They wouldn’t be in The Show otherwise. And they are all capable of hitting a mistake pitch out of the park. So CC made 2 bad pitches and the Yankees are still winning, and it’s a “bad start” according to some.
It’s just as bad as the game where Ibanez his the game tying grandslam last week. Athenian declared the game over in the 7th inning, I gave him shit for it, saying that they play 9 innings for a reason, it’s not over. Guess what, the Yankees won. So stop judging a game or a starter performance, before the damn game is over.
/end rant
I agree with the premise of your argument (that this is a fine start for CC as long as he maintains the current score) I highly doubt if you gave David Robertson 100 swings at meatballs he’d hit one out.
Well he’s a pitcher, that’s not really fair. But if you give Kurt Suzuki several meatballs, he probably hits a bunch out. That’s my point. These guys are all good. Some are better than others, but all of them are capable of taking advantage of mistakes.
So you’re saying that pitchers aren’t baseball players =P I’m just being a douche. Feel free to ignore me.
Pitchers can take advantage of mistakes too. How many times have you seen a fastball over the middle of the plate and the hitter just fouls it straight back? Bad mistake pitch, but they’re ahead in the count. Works both ways.
I take umbrage with Sergio Mitre being very, very talented
Kurt Suzuki, the dee-ay-double-dee why-em-ay-cee
…yeah you know me
Yes, btw, that was a Kriss Kross reference
Hey Mike you never answered my Jose Pirela/Anderson Feliz question. Would both have been in the 3o-35 range on your prospect list?
No, they weren’t particularly close to the top 30.
Wow really? I have always considered Feliz an actual prospect and Pirela is near the top in AA leaderboards.
That last inning was pretty deflating. Yanks score 4 runs for CC and he gives up 2 runs.
They didn’t occur in the same inning. Get your facts straight.
IF WE CAN’T COMPLAIN ABOUT A-ROD WE NEED SOMETHING TO WHINE ABOUT DAMNIT!!!!!
So Colon’s got a shot at going 8 innings?
Not a good series for the offense….
Big inning for CC, time to bounce back vs the heart of their order.
Assuming the Yankees hold on an win, which they should. The appropriate result from today’s game would have been Oakland winning 1-0. This would complete the cycle for all four games of each team scoring one run less than the previous night while all games decided by 1 run with the same winner and loser for each game.
This is a statistical jackpot. 4-3, 3-2, 2-1….could have been 1-0
Reddick/Cespedes > Granderson/Swisher
Reddick/Cespedes>most 3-4′s in baseball.
This season yeah, but can we wait a little while to see if they’re legit?
validate your argument.
By what scale?
Greg, shut your GD mouth.
Don’t listen to this troll Greg. You’re an awesome pitcher.
awesome poster…i got caught between person and poster, while thinking about pitching.
YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU’RE TALKIN’ TO ME!
CC quivers at the sight of right handed batters. Step up CC!
Bear down, CC!
Has anyone tried a pizza place on 50th Street called Don Antonio?
No but you should try Frank’s Pizza on 23rd street next to the Gramercy Theater. Best pizza in NY hands down.
Thanks! Duly noted for next trip in. I’m staying down near there next time too.
Is it brick-oven style or traditional NY pizza?
Good grief, find a backup infielder that can actually field please.
Edward NuzEEEEz says thank you for the props.
No. But if you’re looking for pizze in midtown, Angelo’s is outstanding:
http://www.angelospizzany.com/locations.htm
There’s one on East 55th Street and one on West 57th Street. Really good wood-fired brick-oven pizza.
I’ve walked by the one on 57th street a thousand times and never walked in. I’ll try it but tonight…Don Antonio’s.
Please report back in the next game thread on Don Antonio’s. Always looking for awesome pizza!
Unrelated, but anyone know where I can get good pizza in DC? I’ve been spoiled growing up in a NYC suburb, and I’ve yet to have good pizza since moving down here.
How’s Spike’s place, We the Pizza? I was very impressed by the burger at Good Stuff Eatery. One of the best non-Shake Shack fast food burgers I’ve ever had.
No idea. But it’s pretty close to the Eastern Market station according to Google maps, and I pass that every day. Maybe one time I’ll get off at Eastern Market and check it out.
Look for my full review in tonight’s open thread
I need to be informed of NYC food subthreads, whether I’m following the game thread or not.
Heard very good things about Don Antonio’s. Don’t know what else to recommend around midtown. It really does tend to be a culinary wasteland at times.
Haha, blame Mr. Riddle for getting me thinking about food by bringing up Bagels (and…yech…cinnamon raisin.)
You’re right on midtown unless you really love Japanese food (and I do actually), in which case you could eat at a GREAT restaurant every night but pay through the a$$. I prefer variety though.
You can always do fine walking west into Hell’s Kitchen, or just down to Columbus Circle and into the Time Warner Center. There’s a Blue Ribbon….somewhere around there that I’ve never found.
Midtown East, though? Yipes.
Sure, 9th ave between 40th and 60th has something for everyone.
Will do!
Fuck you Nix!
Well, if we’re gonna win. Its not gonna be easy.
Maybe in the future, if they want to give Jeter a day of rest, do it with a fly ball pitcher on the mound.
Hahahah.
This is a disaster series.
Why thank you Inge.
“Nix bobbled it. That’s why they di-” John
Suzyn(cutting John off)”Inge is very fast, that’s why they didn’t get the double play.” Seriously…is she sleeping with him or something?
IT IS HIGH…IT IS DEEP…IT IS…inside Suzyn.
Well I’ll tell ya Suzyn, you can’t predict sex.
“TTTHHHHEEEEEE Sterling, WINS!”
Nix or Sterling?
I think Brandon Inge wins most annoying player of the series.
Weird beard lefty dude is coming in!
That’s interesting. Colon had a good pitch count.
Norbeardo
Hahahaha!
Anyone else remember this many Oakland fans at a game? I guess Moneyball made Californians aware that there was in fact a fifth Californian baseball team.
That and the Yankees are in and they’re playing well.
Playing the Athletics always does make me a bit college nostalgic. I didn’t go anywhere near Cali, but Green and Yellow were our colors. Every time I look at the uniforms, I think “Cats?” But no.
Where?
University of Vermont. The Catamounts.
Very cool dude. I love Burlington. Have a good friend who lives there now.
Great city. I’d love to live there, if it fit my career field. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. But I always enjoy my visits back.
Yankees have hit line drives right at people all series long.
*all season
I don’t know when the BABIP gods will lift their curse on us.
Wee Willie Keeler rolling in his grave.
They need to go straight to Robertson right now or CC’s gonna blow this. We need this one.
Why do the Yanks “need” this game?
Because Arya’s panties will burst if they don’t win.
Because they lost three in a row to the A’s, so they will be mentally destroyed is they lost the game. The season will spin out of control, and before we know it, the Yankees will be in last place. The entire season depends on the next couple of innings.
Or not.
Suzuki was going for a bunt homer.
Joba hasn’t hit 100 mph since 2008. Not sure how much to believe minor-league radar gun readings, but encouraging.
You would think all pitchers would realize how doing certain conditioning exercises can actually help them increase velocity, which could be the difference between making a MLB club or being cut, or being a good pitcher and a very good pitcher, etc.
Nasty pitch!
Not an ace-quality start.
SEND CC DOWN! FIRE GIRARDI!
*checks sarcasm meter*
It wasn’t. You expect more from your ace than 7-3.
Oh, sorry. They gave you the benefit of the doubt.
I like you. That’s just fucking stupid. Let’s save that for DERP and Widget.
Ah, you make me nostalgic for bo. Now he was THE troll. I’m sorry, but everybody who comes after him and attempts to troll can’t hold a candle to bo. He was a legend.
You might be good but you have a long way to go before you can troll like bo.
Thank you. Truer words have never been spoken.
Most of our trolls here just want to be loved. Look at stuart…..even branching out lately. In the end, they want to be taken seriously. That’s not a troll. A troll comes in, drops a bomb, watches everyone work into a lather, THEN drops another one.
Not complaining too much. I’d rather see these guys actually honestly participating in discussion than trolling.
Brian has the ocassional moment that I think is sorta apeshit, but he is at least here to have fun. Not a troll in the least.
Yep. bo even spawned a word in the Urban Dictionary. “boversimplification”. Added by tjsc.
Those were the days.
Can you imagine the jokers who show up for these threads now back in the day? The old guard would have had their asses so bad they’d never show up again.
Of course, fast forward to now and there’d be people whining about, I dunno, TSJC being “condescending,” or some shit like that.
A quality start (both statistically and in reality) for CC.
…but…but I thought it was determined in the 5th inning that it wouldn’t be a good start no matter what?
So Mike, when can I buy my Justin Upton NY jersey?
Did it happen?
Not that I’m aware of, but I’m seriously hoping that they purchase a big bat like his before the deadline. I’m not entirely sold on Upton’s health at the moment, but I may very well be comfortable with selling off the farm for him.
And, well, watching the offense this series has made me far too frustrated and impatient. I need more cowbell.
How much should they give? Serious question, even of a Troll. What does selling or stripping the farm mean exactly?
I’d have no problem trading one of Williams/Sanchez/Austin + Banuelos + misc. Problem is Banuelos’ value is way down.
Okay, I’m fine with that. I think some people think they should trade Williams/Sanchez/Austin and Banuelos to get Upton, and I have a problem with that because it would set the farm back a number of years and prevent other moves.
Melky + IPK for the clause in which he says he won’t go to the Yankees.
Why the hell did Ibanez face Noberto?
Apparently making changes to try to increase your chances of winning a game isn’t “smart baseball”.
Or so I was told here, anyways.
I;m guessing the same reason why managers are hesitant to pinch hit their backup catcher.
No depth left if Jones pinch hits.
I somewhat agree with that reasoning today with Swisher out, except that Joe does the exact same thing regardless of how much depth is left on the bench. He even did it when they had extra depth when McDonald was on the roster.
He’s got a lead… for some (insane) reason when he has the lead there is no need to bother to tack runs on, and the only moves he makes is generally run prevention (defensive replacements)
It’s kind of a head scratcher.. if it’s a tie game is there any doubt Jones bats?
Exactly. You have to treat a one-run game like a tie game, especially on the road with two innings to go.
They still have Jeter on the bench (Nix can play the OF).
Then you would waste a player just for an at bat. That’s not efficient.
He just wasted his most versatile bench player by putting in Jeter.
lol
This makes his moves last inning even nuttier.
I’m saying your claim the he has no depth is wrong. You pinch hit Jones and have him play the OF.
In an emergency (someone in the OF gets injured) you can plug Nix in the OF and Jeter at SS.
And this is why you play for tack on runs and don’t go into “why bother pinch hitting” mode when you have a 1 run lead.
The HOF should be for players. Screw broadcasters, managers (yes, managers), baseball writers, owners and the other nonsense, such as union leaders.
I’m okay with managers, but yeah broadcasters and writers don’t impact the actual game at all. Why the hell are they in the Hall?
Disagree. The HoF should celebrate all of baseball, which includes non-player field staff, owners, broadcasters, etc. Marvin Miller shouldn’t be in the Hall? Miller did more for baseball than 95% of the players in the HoF anyway.
They can certainly do as they please. The HOF to me is about the players.
Miller did more for “baseball”, or more for baseball players?
Aren’t the two basically the same?
Getting players more money raised the prices for fans. Not that I begrudge the players the money they make or the amount of money I choose to spend on baseball, but I don’t see how increasing the flow of money from fans to players does anything for the game of baseball.
I was going to say the same exact thing. On reflection, Players ARE a big part of baseball.
What brought this on? Not listening intently.
I disagree. It doesn’t really bother me to see non-players.
David Cone mentioned Marvin Miller should be in the HOF, which happened right after I saw Tim McCarver was elected into the broadcasters wing of the HOF. Anger, even if it was faux anger, set in. : -)
Of course former players are all like “PUT MARVIN MILLER IN THE HALL! DO IT!”
It irritates me that they refer to Tim McCarver as an inductee when the HoF makes it very clear that that the Ford Frick Award does NOT constitute induction into the Hall of Fame.
Peopel wondering why Ibanez batted have to remember the lack of outfield depth the Yanks now have.
Yep. If they were one run down and not one run up, it would be different.
I hope we have some depth come the trade deadline.
I swear it looked like Jeter was in LF for a second there.
C’mon, DRob. Let’s nail this down and get the hell out of here.
Nix having a great game today. screwed up the routine double play, an error, and nothing at the plate. doubt he has seen 10 pitches today.
having the parade for arod’s 2 rbi game?
if they were going to do a defensive replacement for nix why did they not have jeter hit for him also? I thought they were going to have Jeter hit for the catcher if Nix got on.
Go away.
Idk if is the real stuart a… The punctuation is actually decent…there aren’t a lot of thoughts just strung together….with a whole bunch of periods in between…
Derek Jeter brought in for defense. LOLOLOLOL
When he gets to a ball late cause he’s old and slow, he has a better chance to make the play.
The score would probably be 4-2, not 4-3, if Jeter was in the game.
Ummm …. so if Jeter is coming in as a defensive replacement anyways, why was Nix allowed to hit?
Because Gitardi is an idiot in terms of PH’ing when he has a lead.
That question, and where is most of the dark matter in the universe, are questions for Girardi after the game.
Girardi stock answer: We made the best decision at the time as we saw it in that specific situation. That’s baseball.
FUCK COCO CRISP!!!!!
I think we all knew this game was over when Crisp stepped into the box.
the A’s are totally gonna get a 4 game sweep, aren’t they? so lame.
Why did Robertson throw a third fastball to Crisp? What a dumb fucking idea.
I think D-Rob forgot he throws a wicked curveball.
He’s gotten away from his curveball alot this year.
Cespedes > Anyone on Yankees not named Cano
Could be, but let’s check back at the end of the year and when he’s not in the middle of blistering hitting streak.
The only true way to judge a player not on the yankees is to look at them when they’re playing their best, and the Yankees when they are playing there worst. Duh.
C’mon, D-ROB!!
YESSSSSSSS!!! One more!
Yes, F U Yoni.
Thank you Chavez.
…and exhale
That fucker looked safe…
ssshhhhhh!
I’d need to see another reply. That was really close.
*replay
Yep, he was out. Good call.
chavez is still the best defensive 3b, he is really a great fielder.
…wait, did you just say something positive, or was that just a subtle knock on A-Rod?
subtle knock
Funny, A-Rod is still a good fielder. He probably gets that out too. stuart doesn’t think so, I’m sure.
robertson throws 80+ % fastballs if not more. Not sure why he does that. His fastball is very good but so is his curve.
You’re branching out. Nice to see.
Is this the real stuart a? You’re now capitalizing and using proper sentence structure? Also complimenting a players ability, albeit while knocking the player’s decision making. Guys, I’m confused!!!
Has to be an impostor.
Or is it?
Progress.
Awesome base running by Crisp.
Granderson should try to steal.
Norberto looks like he should be standing outside Macy’s 34th Street and yelling at me.
Then begging me for a cigarette after stupidly lighting up in front of him.
Smoking is bad for you.
Really? I had no idea. I guess I should quit huh?
Just the stuff you can’t vaporize !
You can vaporize tobacco, it would just be pointless lol.
Yes.
No no no. He has a Black Isrealite looking beard.
Or the guy on the corner near where I work who shouts “Can you spare a penny, please????!!!”
You should give him exactly one penny next time you see him. Just toss it at him.
I usually give him change if I have it on me, but damn. There’s a McDonalds half a block away. Maybe he should get a job?
It’s really hard to get a job if you’re homeless, they judge when you don’t fill in anything on the address bar, and usually people who are homeless have a criminal record and a lack of formal education. Those 3 strikes make it hard to get employment anywhere.
And I should give them money for having a criminal record and dropping out of high school why exactly?
Most the of McDonalds employees don’t have an education either. I should know, their fucking deposits are wrong half the time.
Haha, I’m not saying you should give them a red cent, I’m just saying if you lose your home, and all your money you might just have to steal to survive. If you steal you might get caught, if you get caught you get the felony record, if you get a felony record it’s almost impossible to find employment, meaning no money and the cycle repeats itself. Just remember we’re all just a few steps and poor decisions away from being ‘that guy.’
Ain’t that simple, but I’m not going to get all social justice on anyone when Seth F’ing Smith just tied the game in the 9th.
NO MORE BEARD CLOSEUPS!
If beards made relievers better, would the Yankees break their grooming policy?
These and other important questions…
Who could have seen those changeups coming? You’d think someone would learn.
Nobody would see those changeups coming unless the pitcher is known for it.
…hence why a changeup is a very effective pitch.
Didn’t know Norberto threw a changeup.
CAPITALIZATION
…that would be an impostor.
Haha, I actually thought that was the real stuart a.
Nope, that would be me
Which is why I don’t think the other ones were impostors, nobody has owned up to them for laughs.
Fuck
Naturally.
Kidding me?
AUGGHHHH!!!!!!!!
Wow.
Cheap HR over the CF wall!
Cant blame Girardi for that. Smith was the one guy I was worried about. He should have walked him
Mariano best be coming back in October.
Yeah, can you believe that Soriano has blown a whole 2(!!!) saves in roughly 30 chances. God he’s been terrible.
…and when Mo blows a save, you’ll be asking fooooor?
Now we get to hear about how great the A’s are and how they’re in contention (even thought it’s because of the stupid second WC) and MONEYBALL
The A’s are a good team. I told you all they would be trouble
The A’s are a hot team. It remains to be seen if they’re good.
oh please. according to you everyone is better than the yankees.
And they’re SCRAPPY and GRITTY and GUTTY too
Game-tying HR to an RAB meme. ARGH.
This is a funny series. Won’t really matter in the grand scheme but forfeiting all 4 games would have been easier.
Ugh. Well, sometimes you run into a hot as shit team. What are you gonna do?
I told you all to watch out for this team and that they were on a roll.
They were hitting better and they were pitching well.
Don;t say I didn’t warn you.
Please, tell us one more time how you warned everybody about the A’s.
? GD, Greg. WTF am I supposed to do with you?
LMAO
I won’t say you didn’t warn us.
I will say you are rapidly becoming RAB’s most annoying commenters.
We are being beaten by our own medicine – lots of homers.
Why is Soraino throwing all sliders pretty much?
Now some fastballs.
solo homer to inge, the nix f up, solo jack to suzuki first of the year, and seth smith solo jack. TRAIN WRECK.
btw inge has more rbi’s then arod, think about that nugget.
LOL
Persephone? #fillingin
The A’s are hitting too many home runs.
/MSM
MFIKY fail.
The A’s were very concerned about their lack of power to start the season. No shortage in this series.
And this is why you play for tack on runs and don’t go into “why bother pinch hitting” mode when you have a 1 run lead.
Especially when you let Nix bat and then put Jeter in immediately as a defensive replacement – either rest Jeter entirely for the whole game or have him bat for Nix there. It is too cute.
I think Soriano knows he cannot make the money in the open market as he can with the Yankees. So he blew this game so he remains good enough to pick up the option.
You really have softened. I’m enjoying Athenian v2.0 thus far.
Also, I laughed, and I think we all need a laugh right now.
That doesn’t make a lick of sense.
Neither does this series and neither did signing Soriano.
But of course everybody believes that this game has no impact at all right? Just to be clear.
None.
I hate you more now than I did 2 minutes ago.
It has the same impact as any other single game in a 162-game season.
Yep.
No more impact than any other game, correct.
Rational thoughts.
I will not call MFIKY my Boo Boo Kitty F@ck
bahahaha, yes.
biggest hanging slider I’ve ever seen. it was just floating.
Damn it. Guess getting dinner ready will have to wait.
Hey guys, I don’t know if you know this, but Greg warned us about the A’s…in case you didn’t know.
Just admit that I was right. That’s all.
Greg . . . You are now my arch-nemesis. Way to go.
But…but…but he’s my arch nemesis!!!!!!!!1!!!!
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. That’s right Greg. We will destroy you.
…buy you a drink?
What’s our record in extra innings?
3-0.
Yankees must win – I cannot bear to see another A’s walk-off (I heard someone call it a dance-off given how wild they get in their celebration.)
What is up with the tantrum that those A’s fans throw? That it is no way cool or trendy.
It looks spastic and lame.
BABAIP win?
*BABIP
What the fuck does BABAIP stand for?
Batting average on balls in play
I know what BABIP stands for. It’s BABAIP that’s got me confused.
Also, shut the fuck up.
Don’t say Greg didn’t tell you…
LET’S DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was on vacation in florida for all your a’s games guys. i’m sorry, i’m back now, you can win okay?
Greg, you know I agreed with you on the A’s. Now shush.
Why does it seem like our hitters are never looking for the fastball w/ 2 strikes?
Because they have been fed other pitches to get to two strikes.
Still, when I got to the level where kids where starting to throw breaking balls/change ups, I was taught if you get to 2 strikes look for the fastball and react to the breaking pitch.
thank you A-rod for not hitting into a double play.
BTW, you should not underestimate the physiological effect of traveling three time zones to the west and playing night games. This surely played a role in the Yanks three losses to Oakland.
Like pussy trolls?
Hey guys. Maybe you didn’t realize, but Greg warned us about the A’s.
No, really, he did. Honest. He REALLY DID warn us about the A’s. Truly. I know it’s hard to believe, but you can check.
SERIOUSLY GUYS.
Did he? I can’t find it anywhere in this thread.
I hereby warn you all that any MLB team the Yanks play is dangerous and could beat them and end their season.
Wait. Are you sure he warned everyone?
The A’s are CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDAS
Could this team have looked like they cared less to be playing during these past four games? They look like the walking dead out there while the A’s have been all energy during the series. It reminds me of a series they had with the Angels late last summer.Disconcerting considering how loose they’ve looked before this series began.
It’s physiological. The Yanks traveled three time zones–shifting their internal circadian clocks three hours out of phase with local time–and played three night games.
This is the dumbest narrative I’ve ever heard. Every team looks bad when they’re losing. Teams look “energetic” when they win.
I hate this crap.
Sorry to offend your delicate sensibilities.
You didn’t offend anyone it’s just a really dumb narrative.
I see that you’re the authority on such things. Anyone could look at the past four games and see that the Yankees have been playing flat. Even if they had won this game I still would have thought that they looked out of sorts. In my opinion, you’re oversimplifying things for the sake of argument. I know you’re dying to give some smarmy response with the word flat in quotations because you think you’re some hot shot on here with valuable opinions, but you’re just another person posting on a message board who has a chip on their shoulder. You go out of your way to shoot down other people’s opinions on here because…I don’t know why. Maybe you’re just really insecure and this is you’re only venue to feel like your opinion matters. Personally, I think you just come off as kind of a jerk. Reply if you want, since I’m sure you need to keep up appearances. Call me a troll, get mad, whatever you want. I won’t be reading it, and deep down I think you know I’m right. Try being nicer to people.
Can someone confirmed that Alex Rodriguez was sending texts and getting a manicure from third base? Yes? OK, you heard it here first.
Nobody is gonna respect MFIKY until he posts a “W” that’s why
He’ll never be on the level of a Balfour, that’s for sure.
MFIKY doesn’t play hockey, that’s why
They play hockey in Australia?
Oh Jeter, you’re so clutch.
So basically you disagree with David Cone.
I have to listen to the radio broadcast. Did Cone say Jeter was clutch? If so that’s kind of too bad, you’d think Cone would know more about these things.
He called him Captain Clutch so…
that’s his nickname from when he used to be clutch
Stop forming your own opinions, jerk.
TWSS
Jeter thought it was low. It probably was
It wasn’t.
Jeter was hoping that was outside so the ump would GRANT BALFOUR HAHAHAHAHAH
That’s awesome. I know you’re my enemy, but that was good.
zzzzzzing!
It feels like there’s been a season’s worth of WTF in one weekend.
Okay, here comes the walk-off.
I’m going to go ahead and warn everyone that the M’s could win games against us. You heard it here first!
Just make sure to remind us of that 500 times.
It will be 3 dangerous games.
Also folks should be warned that Felix Hernandez could pitch well.
I’ll remember to give you credit for your unbelievable foresight, but for now I just don’t believe it’s possible.
Well, considering if a team was constructed with the best 25-man roster possible in today’s game, and then that team played the absolute worst team in MLB (Cubs?) for 162 games, the Cubs would still win roughly 40 games. So, yeah, the M’s could win games.
I already warned everyone above in the thread that every MLB can beat the Yanks.
I have to give you credit for that Mets loss. Nice job.
Thank you.
Phleps can give 2-3 good innings.
Be careful here Phelps. No reason to give this guy anything.
Is it me or do these umpires have no consistency over this whole series when it comes to balls and strikes?
that could be because there is a different umpire behind the plate every game.
I know but but feels like none of them are consistant with the individual thoughts on balls and strikes
How come nobody predicted we’d have trouble with this team?
I feel like I should have seen this coming…..or that someone could have at least warned me.
no, it was predictible.
They faced three rookie pitchers and the Yanks notoriously struggle with unfamiliar arms.
I think you missed the joke.
(Chuckle)
I thought we’d win every game 100-0. Boy, was I wrong.
Yoenis with the walk-off? Or would that be too obvious?
Yoni can sit his azz down.
No more obvious than “The Troll.”
Careful. I made that remark before and he lambasted me for being “so original”…yet he still has the same handle and expects to be taken seriously.
In other words, he can kiss my ass in advance?
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
David Phelps. What a champ.
BADASS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great inning by Phelps. He looked very good.
Nice inning there by Phelpsy, too bad this means Garcia-y is getting the start over ol’ Phelpsy in Seattle against Jesus-y and The Mariners.
Maybe Phelps can be stretched out to seven innings and 105 pitches tonight.
This is crazy. The Yankees have no outfield depth, they can’t use a pinch hitter here.
Oh wait the game is now tied… so Girardi will actually use pinch hitters.
Fucking Sterling again. Awesomely wrong home run call on the foul ball. Dick.
Srsly? You could see that was going foul right off the bat. Have he and Sue been complaining that they can’t see anything from their booth, because of “the angles”?
Yeah, he couldn’t have sounded more sure that it was gone. He was yelling at the top of his voice that’s only reserved for alleged no doubters.
“IT IS HIGH!!!! IT IT IS FAR!!!! IT.. It’s foul.”
And to RetroRob’s point, Sterling even mentioned that Jones knew right away it was foul and didn;t even move. Not to get all Mushnick-y, but Sterling doesn’t care about providing an accurate call, he cares about doing his stupid calls, with no regard for actually being the eyes of the audience. It’s infuriating.
Really? I really don’t know why Sterling just doesn’t take a quick glance at the batter, who knows probabably 99% of the time if it’s gone.
I was giving my son a bath when that happened. We both almost punched the wall.
Sterling’s inability to call a game is neither folksy nor charming. The blown home run calls are a given at this point: What’s even more egregious are plays involving men on base, in which Sterling will use so many pronouns that one can’t figure out who has ended up where.
And that’s without waiting for him to update those listening whether, in fact, runners have in fact moved up.
He brings no special insight to the game (love him or not, Tim McCarver does), nor does he bring any special knowledge of the players to the microphone (miss you, Scooter). And yes, my dad loved Broadway musicals as much as Sterling does, and I appreciate my share of ‘em too — but Sterling’s references to “Oklahoma” and “Anything Goes” too often get in the way of describing what is happening on the field.
Enough. The opposition team broadcasts on MLB radio can fill in some of the gaps, but it’s really time that the Yankees get a radio announcer worthy of the franchise. If Sterling’s contract is renewed, I’m going to be one seriously unhappy fan.
Exactly. He could get rid of 80% of his shtick and still be overbearing.
That was a fun swing through the lineup.
Why does this feel like it’s gonna be a while?
I don’t mind, as long as we win.
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.
Phelps is changing speeds well.
Every pitching change brings us closer to QUALLS TIME!
Calm the fuck down Inge that was nowhere near your head.
3 straight K’s for Phelps and Girardi takes him out for……….Clay Rapada?
Really? Just how deep is the pen? The long guy who can pitch seven innings exits. This is not going to end well.
Really? Mixing and matching in extras with only Qualls and a ROOGY in the bullpen from the right side? I don’t agree w/ this…
Really. And Wise is out of the game too. No Swisher either.
Okay. This time I’m angry at Girardi. Questionable move.
WTF would Girardi not leave Phelps in?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Hahaha. Nice to see we all agree.
But again this game means nothing according to people on here so we shouldn’t get that upset.
Now you’re just trying to rise out of people.
This game means as much as any other. Doesn’t mean we don’t want then to win it.
Why do you keep mischaracterizing what people have said, which is not that this game means nothing, but that it means no more than any other single game?
And yeah, I was surprised by that righty-lefty move, when this could be a while. Phelps looked good. Why not leave him in?
It means more to my mood this evening than any thing else.
so Joe takes out a good multi-inning reliever and leaves us with a ROOGY and Boone left in the pen. they better score next inning.
Not the best bullpen move I’ve ever seen.
It’s an extra inning game, Phelps is dealing and they pull him?!? Terrible move! Ride a Phelps, Save the pen!
I don’t understand this move… the Yankees have 3 specialist and Logan in the pen.
Girardi is basically getting the farm they will score next inning.
*betting*
*betting.
But you are right.
I’m sure having only OOGY’s left in the pen won’t come back to bite the Yankees in the ass if this game goes long.
How do you defend that decision? Thats incredible.
You don’t, although I predict it will be overmagnified so much in the next 15-20 minutes we’ll wind up being backed into doing it.
Idk maybe they didn’t want to extend Phelps since he threw 27 pitches on the 19th?
Phelps the man.
Phelps stock is rising. Trade fodder?
I usually find reasons to defend the moves by Girardi, but (even though it worked with Rapada getting the out) I agree with my RAB brethren that taking out the long man in an extra innings game is a bad move.
I am very loathe to second-guess a professional manager, but yeah, that was fucking weird.
You loath to second guess a manager? What are you doing around these here parts, son?
The only way to defend that move is if they plan on using Phelps against King Felix instead of Freddy. If that’s not the case, then this was just a case of Girardi over managin again.
it’s the latter
It was over-managing. I don’t think he’s thinking that far ahead here.
Remember…..this will get taken to such ridiculous proportions that we’ll be defending the move soon.
Also, Greg said Oakland would be trouble.
This must be the Yankees’ comeuppance for their dominance of the A’s in recent years.
What an awful series this has been.
STUUUUUUUART?!? Are you with us little one?
HAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow thank you for the gift Reddick. Joe G might get bailed out here.
Thanks, Red Dick!
YES!!!!!!!
Girardi prayed to the Sun God!!! He knew!!!
Robbie, c’mon make it happen son!
Isn’t Cano shit with RISP?
Where’s your hippie god, now?!
/Edward g. Robinson
Blevins? Didn’t he start today for Seattle?
Which Yankee was born in Seattle celebrating a Bday tomorrow?
Please do something A-Rod. Please make Stuart a eat his words.
I guess an IBB is something.
Interesting
Alex get’s IBB’ed in extra innings. I hope stuart’s heart is in good condition.
I don’t think it ever is.
Please make just one out, Raul.
or…..none?
He’s reached base seven times against lefties this year. Seven. And one was a hit-by-pitch.
You and your facts.
Good job.
It’s almost like Ibanez shouldn’t be hitting against lefties.
Unless there’s a 1 run lead, then it doesn’t matter.
C’mon, Raul!
Thanks, Axisa. Ibanez was clearly reading this.
CANO WHY YOU NO GET HIT WITH RISP? I WILL TRADE YOU!
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Pop up some more pitches, fellas.
Get Upton please.
This is weird. I actually agree with you, Greg. I feel funny inside. Could this be love?
Go for a drive. Please.
I think this pretty much confirms they aren’t winning this game.
Oakland has been just as ineffective at scoring in the extra innings.
I miss Jorge all of a sudden.
This game has Qualls walkoff written all over it :/
Leadoff guy reaches second and we can’t even manufacture a run. I’m legitimately upset about this. Also I can’t wait for Qualls to come in and blow the game because Girardi took Phelps out.
I hope Brian Cashman is watching this and understanding that you just cant rest on your laurels. You’ve gotta do something.
Ummm…
He really just needs to log off and go for a run/masturbation session.
Just put Qualls in to end this, please. I have things to do.
This is where I miss Scott Proctor.
He was highly efficient in that game against the Rays.
He threw 55 pitches and was in his third inning of work.
I think your thinking of Farnsworth.
Yeah you’re right.
Proctor was more a matter of knowing he would get it done, but could tease you with a good inning or two first.
Watch it, or YES is gonna terminate you guys!
Bring up Fukodome (?) ! Put Cust in the OF !! Trade for Upton !!! ANYTHING!!!!!
Ibanez you too? package deal, with chavez, should be enoough to get burnett back right?
If Ken Singleton had a better home run call, he would probably be the best play-by-play guy calling Yankees’ games.
I like his call, it’s better than See-Ya or other gimmicks.
Yeah me too. It’s simple, not overly flashy, just calling the play.
My wife sort of casually pays attention when the games are on, and she was all like, “Wow. This is so much better without Kay.”
Considering how loud Kay is, I’m susprised he adopted the effete See-Ya as his call.
Sounds very forced to me.
And I’m not sure how it’s any less gimmicky than Kay’s. They both use the same call every single time. Which is actually a good thing – consistency counts.
Don’t worry guys when I am the play by play guy I will ask everyone here what they would like for a home run call remember -Jacob Nardone
So do we all agree that Upton is a 130 wRC+ guy in New York and away from RHB friendly Chase Stadium?
I don’t care if its Upton or not. JUST DO SOMETHING.
These Oakland fuckers are making me respect the Yanks’ facial hair rule.
I wish Cano would have swallowed his ego and moved the runner over last inning. He sucks against lefties this year for some reason there was no way he was getting a hit.
This thread is getting beyond self-parody at this point.
??
Move the runner over for the only 2 guys on the team who have been worse against lefties?
So they can get a sac fly?
So you want Cano to bunt and hope Ibanez manages a sac fly against a lefty?
I’d much rather take my chances with the best hitter on the team.
Brian just meeped.
Wow, our infield defense has been god awful since the Break.
Fuck you Jeter
JUST GIVE IT UP.
Valium can be your friend, Greg.
I say the same thing after everyone of your posts. But no such luck.
By the way, that’s a base hit, not an error
Nice play by Cano, especially w/ Epply doing everything he could to throw the ball away.
Cone and Singleton are the best combo. Singleton is everything that Michael Kay is not, which is a major compliment. And David Cone talks about FIP and tossing salad. It doesn’t get better than that.
What a fitting end to a shitty, shitty series.
At least Phelps will be available for 20 pitches in two days.
AYGH!
That was……not a good decision.
Nothing against Clay Rapada or Cody Eppley, but this is getting ridiculous. Come back, Joba.
And then get pulled with 2 out and noone on so Girardi can get that all important platoon matchup (and not worrying about any future inning in the game)
fucking losers. great job Joe.
Thank god this game is over.
Leave it to fucking Coco Crisp.
Uggh … just get the fuck out of Oakland.
GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING FUCK!!!!!
(At least it’s dinner time…)
Wow…really Jones? FUCKING SERIOUSLY? that’s just a poor excuse of ‘effort’ from a supposed professional.
Twice in one series Eppley allows the winning run while facing a LH’d batter?
Yuck.
Where’s my tequila. Oh, tomorrow’s a work day. Screw it. It’s here somewhere.
Gee, didn’t look like Wise was committed to that play did it?
Oh, we will get your asses for that celebration.
Breaking Bad. 10:00 PM tonight.
Coco Crisp is Pillowpants.
hahahahahahahahah
The meme is picking up steam
Unbelievable. Cashman better upgrade this bitch. Get Justin Upton.
Yes lets sell the farm on an OFer who is below average offensively this season. That’ll fix everything.
Of course it had to be fucking Crisp. I hate him forever and always. Dust yourselves off and sweep the mariners.
Best thing you’ve ever said on here.
Oh bite me fishman.
Where?
Funny what happens when OOGY’s face opposite handed batters in big spots.
Girardi really is terrible in one run games…
I’ve come to the conclusion that just about all managers in baseball are similarly terrible in most situations.
Well i get to watch Girardi more, and he really annoys me with his micromanagement at the wrong times.
He was 3-0 and this is his first loss….according to Singleton
He was 3-0 and this is his first loss….according to Singleton
Now the media will begin to question the Yankees.
Will they stop and blow me along the way?
They should. What a sorry performance.
You’re probably right, Greg, but just don’t read it.
They question them no matter what they do. Besides who cares what the media think? It doesn’t change the fact that the Yankees are good.
Fuck you Oakland. Wake me when you actually win something. Assholes.
They just need $200 million.
Ugh
It’s almost like Eppley is not good against lefties.
This game was doomed once Girardi took Phelps out and went into mix/match mode. You kind of get stuck when switch hitters come up (and you’d think Girardi would have realized that prior to taking Phelps out)
I am in total shock right now, Cody eppley is so dead to me
No way that Phelps can face a lefty, after striking out 3 consecutive batters, but after ROOGY Epply allowed a scorcher from a righty he’s left in to face a lefty…and Logan, who can get lefties and righties out, is still in the bullpen. That makes zero sense to me.
it makes zero sense to anyone
what a train wreck. they have 1 guy in the pen who can pitch more then 1 inning….
more clutch hitting from the softball team….
a team with maybe a $65 mill payroll schooled, the slow pokes…..
but hey Arod is up to 43 rbi’s 1 more then brandon inge who is awful………..
SOriano did not do his job and got taken down town by seth smith, ELi Mannings old roommate. BTW Nix is no better and then Nunez. He is not making the routine play and offensively and on the basepaths Nunez is much better……
they need relief pitcher who can pitch 3 to 5 innings.. they did not want to use phelps more because they are concerned about Garcia on tuesday……
check out the yankee catchers stats……awful.. they could not pinch hit the 181 russle martin because they had no more outfielders and who in there right mind would intentionally bring russel martin up to the plate……
Waaah! They’re still in first place. Go be a Met fan.
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The worst thing though is that some of the fans are underperforming
The best things about this weekend were the fat kid with the sign and pillowpants
No idea what is happening in this Mo forsaken game. But I just had one fucking amazing pizza.
So Phelps was pitching lights out and Girardi takes him out of an extra inning game to mix and match. After Eppley he was left with Chad Qualls as his only righty. How is that any better? Eppley already blew a game this series. Give the kid a chance.
Because the Binder says so…
Yeah it was just a godawful fucking decision. I’m not even gonna watch his post game interview to find out why he made that dick eased move.
Probably something along the lines of “Well Phelpsy pitched a couple days ago and we want him available to be able to pitch another meaningless inning acouplee days from now so we decided to save his arm and bring in Rapady to face the lefty.”
“dick eased”? Fuck you iPad.
Wow. 4 game sweep at the hands of the A’s. That’s like your pants falling down in public.
Or blowing 4 games in a row in 2004.
Well congrats Oakland. You just won the World Series. Now go get soapy and fuck yourselves in the shower!
Regardless of what the media may now start to say about the Yankees, they are ‘good.’ The question remains, though, “Are they good enough?”
We joke here a lot about “too many HR’s,” but there’s a problem there that most people recognize: g+ood pitching can take that hr edge away as we saw so often in 21st century post-seasons.
I’m with the guy this afternoon (I think) who wished for an additional .300 hitter, not walk-driven obp machine. The Yanks of the 1920s and 30s (and 50s) gave the team their “Bronx Bomber” rep. But Ruth, Gehrig, Dimag, Mantle could also hit well over .300 (in addition to their walks).
I forget whom they were playing during the worst of the rispfail period, but I think it was Singleton who remarked–with Leiter agreeing–that these HR-happy guys are not about to compromise their swings (where their dough comes from) for piddling singles in risp moments. They’re going to do what they do: let ‘er rip. Fine, go ahead, but against Weaver, Verlander, et al. (not to mention rookies from Oakland) bet on the pitcher.
“g+ood pitching can take that hr edge away as we saw so often in 21st century post-seasons.”
This isn’t true. Homer-reliant teams perform better against good pitching than teams that rely less on home runs. For example, here is one article that looks at postseason performance: http://mlb.si.com/2012/06/25/n.....runs-risp/. The key part is the paragraph that starts with: “Indeed, the data shows that teams reliant upon the home run actually fare better in the postseason than those who don’t.”
We’ll see, won’t we? My bet will be on the Yankees to resemble…the Yankees: reasonably easy to put away (except by the Twins, of course). Of course, their own pitching might pull them through, but that’s another matter.
No, we won’t see. One postseason performance by one team in 2012 won’t really change the conclusion of what was mentioned in that article, which looked at 132 teams in the wild card era. The fact is, it’s better to be a homer-reliant team than a non-homer-reliant team when it comes to the playoffs.
It sucks to lose 4 in a row and still have the best record in the majors
