Injury Updates: Gardner, Joba, Banuelos
ByInjury updates? Injury updates!…
- Brett Gardner (elbow) will take dry swings at some point this weekend, his first time doing any sort of serious baseball activity since suffering his second setback. If all goes well during his latest rehab attempt, he’s expected back at the end of the month. [George King]
- Joba Chamberlain (elbow, ankle) faced six batters during a 25-pitch simulated game this morning. He struck out three, walked one, and allowed a hit. He and the team will get together to discuss the next step, which could be a minor league rehab game. [Mark Didtler]
- Austin Romine (back) caught Joba today. Two days ago we heard that he still a few weeks away from returning to game action. [Didtler]
- David Aardsma (elbow) has not resumed throwing and is still awaiting test results after feeling pain in his surgically repaired right elbow about a week ago. [Didtler]
- Pedro Feliciano (shoulder) continues to throw bullpen sessions and figures to begin facing hitters in live batting practice at some point soon. [Didtler]
- Manny Banuelos (elbow) has been throwing in Tampa for a few weeks now according to Dellin Betances. The two are close friends. Still no timetable for Manny’s return, however. [Josh Norris]

End of the month for Gardy? Is that being overly cautious?
We really need to start some sort of RAB pool on when injured players return. Winners could get shoutouts on the podcast, while losers would be forced to take stuart a to dinner.
Hahaha I love this idea.
The risk of taking stuart a to dinner scares the shit out of me.
Maybe if he’s got food in his mouth he won’t be able to talk about RBIs and slugging percentage over and over.
But we’d have to keep feeding him. Once he digests, the food might give him energy to continue his rants.
True. Get him drunk maybe?
That’s the hope. Keeps the dilettantes out and ensures that you’re in it to win it!
Get well soon guys.
Gardner’s addition would surely be appreciated. Miss the stolen bases and tough AB’s.
Romine needs to be healthy so we can avoid any Russell Martin multi-year pacts.
Man Ban’s injury sucks because now he’ll have to spend the fall and winter trying to build up his innings totals.
Joba will be back in the Majors before Gardner.
I hope this is true only if Joba comes back very shortly after the All-Star break.
I hope they locked Gardner in a room so he couldn’t hurt himself again.
Dry swings are what is causing this problem. He needs a graphite injection or something to keep things moving smoothly.
Brett Gardner will need TJ surgery. This entire thing reminds me of Xavier Nady.
*At the meeting with staff & Joba about his next step*
Ca$h: Hey guys thanks for coming in… Joba, how are you feeling? What are you thinking your next step should be?
Joba: Well… I was thinking we could maybe stretch me ou…
*Get’s slapped in the face by Ca$h*
Ca$h: Don’t even go there… Joe, you got anything?
I smell an OF by the deadline. Maybe the Cubs thing has to do with DeJesus. You can’t bank on Gardner.
Does Joba automatically have a spot in the Yankees bullpen when he’s healthy? This makes it sounds like he’ll play a couple of rehab games and then rejoin the team. I was under the impression that he would be assigned to AAA and would have to earn a spot on the 25 man roster.
Why would he have to re-earn a job he never lost?
