Game 110: Just Win

“I hate baseball.” (Leon Halip/Getty Images)

So this whole losing thing is starting to get pretty old. The Yankees are just 6-12 in their last 18 games despite outscoring their opponents by six total runs, which you can blame on the eight (!) one-run losses. I mean … c’mon guys. Let’s get this done. Here’s the starting nine…

SS Derek Jeter
RF Nick Swisher
2B Robinson Cano
1B Mark Teixeira
DH Eric Chavez
CF Curtis Granderson
C Russell Martin
LF Ichiro Suzuki
3B Casey McGehee

LHP CC Sabathia

Tonight’s game starts a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on YES. Enjoy, or at least try too.

  1. Hypothetical trade says:

    Alex Rodriguez
    Curtis Granderson

    Peter Bourjous
    Alberto Callaspo
    Vernon Wells

    Who says no?

  2. Kevin says:

Vernon Wells? Why trade one horrid contract for another?

  3. JonS says:

That’s a much better lineup with Granderson 6th.

  4. Kramerica Industries says:

Time to get a W tonight, and hope the M’s and Jays do as well.

It’s high time the worm start going back in its proper direction. And this is a pretty big swing game as well – Yankees win tonight, and there’s still a decent chance at a split. Lose, and it’s very likely another 4-game sweep.

  5. Kramerica Industries says:

Alright, so aside from dealing with a glitch attack since last Friday, now is showing dead links galore right now.

Those guys are really on top of their games right now.

  6. Brian S says:

It’s not just Yankees pitching prospects that have bad years guys. Look at what happened to Jacob Turner, Shelby Miller, and Martin Perez this season.

  7. bobtaco says:

    Anyone else having issues with

  8. Arya says:

So Joe finally wised up and realized that Granderson is a power hitter and not a lead off hitter. That’s a start. Now it’s time for the ace to do what he’s paid to do, stop the bleeding.

    • Mike HC says:

With Longo back, that breathing room we have is going to evaporate real fast. CC needs to get hot these last two months.

  9. Brian S says:

  10. Brian S says:

  11. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

BABIP and RISP wins all rolled into one.

  12. Mike says:

Nice Chavez. Since A-Rod has been out this deserves nothing less than an A+

  13. Mike N says:

Anybody else having trouble with the MLB.TV video feed of tonight’s game? The link is still not live on the Mediacenter page.

  14. Mike says:

Oh Curtis if only that happened last night

  15. RI$P FTW says:

Yanks are 4.5 up? Damn. I’ve been away from things for a few days.

  16. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Shutdown inning please.

  17. Arya says:

Oh and what do you know, Curtis hits with men on base and drives one in. Funny how that works, Joe.

  18. Kramerica Industries says:

If the Yankees will score a ton of runs without my ability to watch, then, by all means, keep sucking

Meanwhile, I can enjoy seeing Ryan Cook imploding again for the A’s.

    • Mike N says:

Those fucks don’t have the feed live yet! WTF?!?!?

      • Kramerica Industries says:

I was actually testing on a different system, in hopes that my glitch problems could be discovered one way, or another.

Turned on Angels/A’s, and was ready to switch at 7, but I saw all the links were dead, and on itself they were dead. Worst of all, I couldn’t figure out anything good either from what I watched – feed seemed slightly choppy, which is still inadequate from what I’ve become used to, but not nearly as “glitchy”.

        • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Links are dead on mobile devices too. Fuck them.

          • Mike N says:

I tried to call MLB.TV on their 800 number, and it was completely silent for like two minutes, then a recording said, “Thank you for calling MLB.TV. Goodbye.”, and then a dial tone. lolz

          • Kramerica Industries says:

Like I said, those guys are really on top of things at the moment.

Could be a blessing in disguise with how bad the Yankees have played of late, however. I sure as hell hope so.

  19. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I can haz furst inning runs????

  20. The Real Greg says:

If you get the first two outs, CC, I would consider plunking Cabrera

  21. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Flaherty just called CC the “ace of the Yankees.” FIRE THAT FUCKING PRICK.

  22. Tyler says:

O’Neill Theory in full swing tonight

  23. jjyank says:

God damn it, MLB.TV. I see I’m not alone in this. Not cool though.

Guess I’ll watch another episode of Archer. Thanks for that by the way, Riddle. I never saw that show until you referenced Sterling Archer to my career goals :P That show is so, so good.

  24. Brian S says:

I liked Cabrera better when he was an alcoholic. He and Hamilton need to start hanging out.

  25. tabbert says:

go to vipbox if your having trouble with MLB.TV

  26. Brian S says:

    -everyone in this thread

  27. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

CC vs. Prince sumo wrestling cage match!!!!!!!11!!

  28. Kramerica Industries says:

    So, Beckett got incinerated today.

That’s always nice, if nothing else.

  29. Defensive Indifference says:

“Audio available when game starts.” Um…

  30. tabbert says:

I cant post the link… but if your having troubles with MLB.TV just looked up vipbox. tv That will get you the Yankees game on the yes network.

  31. Cuso says:

I know Prince is his buddy, but CC needed to brush him back. Prince has creamed CC on the inside fastball a few times this year.

  32. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    2-0 already? What happened?

  33. Brian S says:

    Jeter is slow

  34. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Nice play Robbie.

  35. Jesus, Cano made that look really easy…

  36. CUYanks says:

Anyone know anything about this Orioles callup Steve Johnson starting today?

  37. What is this graphic they’re showing? Can anybody read japapanese?

  38. Brian S says:

How was that first pitch to Swisher a strike.

  39. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Fuck you Sanchez.

  40. RI$P FTW says:

CC is a genius. Now he can’t pitch inside.

  41. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

That’s a bullshit warning. Now CC has to be very careful.

  42. Brian S says:

    Fuck you Tigers!

  43. Tom says:

Sanchez should have just been tossed for that shit…

  44. Big Member says:

If CC doesnt plunk Cabrera he ain’t no ace

    • Heisenberg's Hat says:

Totally illogical. The ace’s job is to get the other team out, not put their men on base for no reason.

  45. Brian S says:

When CC is about to get pulled in the 7th or 8th they should have him bean someone.

  46. Rocky Road Redemption says:

Honestly, despite what our broadcast team is saying, let’s be fair here. They didn’t start it, we did. CC clearly went inside on Prince to intimidate him and it got away, and I’m not gonna be too upset that the Tigers nailed one of our guys on the ass in response. That’s the game, the Ump made the right call, move on.

    • CUYanks says:

Yeah, I’ve always felt that it’s the job of the umpires to try to prevent players getting intentionally hit (and at risk of injury), not to allow the other team’s pitcher to “even it out.”

    • Mike N says:

Agreed. And every booth discussion of plunking/warning/ejecting is exactly the same, and totally boring and stupid. You can tell the former players are all popping woodies about it, though.

    • Cuso says:

He had to go inside, but the intent was not to hit him. He dove in.

Go watch it again. Prince dove right in.

      • Rocky Road Redemption says:

Whatever. He went inside with the intent to intimidate him and “dove in” or not, it hit him, and the ump can’t assume that he “dove in”.

  47. jon says:

so why did sanchez throw at cano what happened before?

  48. Cuso says:

Now Welke made sure that Prince could get comfortable again. God, I hate this crew.

  49. Kempire Strikes Back says:

A good throw would have gotten Robbie.

  50. The Real Greg says:

    That’s our revenge

  51. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    You fucking kidding me, Kay?

  52. Brian S says:

  53. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  54. johnstamos says:

    ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssee ya

  55. OT: Vitamin Water Zero. Fucking delicious.

    OT: GRANDYMAN!!!!!!!!!!!

  56. Mike N says:

    YIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. Hummingbird S. says:

Grandy! It’s so nice when you dont strike out!

  58. Will The Thrill says:

Anyone else annoyed that the Yankees took the safe approach at the deadline? I mean Ichiro and McGehee aren’t exactly impact players. Texas, Detroit, and LA (both teams) made significant upgrades in areas of weakness. I don’t know whether they just didn’t feel they had to pieces to trade or if the FO was satisfied with what they had. Weird.

    • Mike N says:

My speculation is that they felt pretty comfortable with what they had pitching-wise and got Ichiro to fill their only real serious need: an everyday outfielder.

    • The Real Greg says:

      So far,

Greinke has been a bust for the Angels

Sanchez and Dempster have been up and down.

  59. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Fuck you Sanchez!

  60. Kramerica Industries says:

    Okay then, KCurtis.

  61. Get Phelps Up says:

That was the best redemption Curtis.

  62. Arya says:

Joe finally realizes what Curtis can do when men are on base. He’s not a lead off hitter, he’s a power hitter. And power hitters hit 3-6, not lead off. And look at the results.

  63. Cuso says:

Billy Ripken called that Curtis would hit a 3-run shot tonight prior to the game

  64. Will The Thrill says:

Thanks Grandy! You’ve been slumping mightily so that was a sight for sore eyes! Five runs is a pretty good lead now it’s up to our pitching to not implode.

  65. chilango says:

Cano’s pain in the ass gives Detroit a pain in the ass. Nice.

  66. Brian S says:

I hope Cano hits a home run and pimps the shit out of it. Like toss his bat up in the air.

  67. DERP says:

    Where are the bridge jumpers?

      • Kramerica Industries says:

…for myself to watch the game.

I don’t trust Japanese websites that could spawn virus attacks.

        • meh, seems legit. I’m going to run a sweep after the game though just to be sure.

          • chilango says:

it’s a good site. never had a problem with it. so is

            • Kramerica Industries says:

atdhe is awesome for hockey and NFL, for me. Nothing better than late in the season, firing up all the relevant games along with one on TV to boot. NFL Sunday’s are like nothing else for me, just because it’s a once-a-week thing.

Ever since I sprung for, though, using (illegal) streams for baseball was something I no longer had to resort to.

          • Kramerica Industries says:

            9/23/2009, Yankees vs. Angels.

Only reason I remember is because it was the day before my birthday.

Found an excellent site for the rubber game of that series, worked well for most of the game, I even sent a link to a buddy of mine who was at work*. Then, suddenly, around the 7th-8th inning, the stream disintegrated, and I had a virus problem on my hands soon thereafter.

Easily resolved, ultimately, but not fun at all.

*Fortunately, I never got any gruff from him, so I’m guessing there was adequate virus protection on his work machine.

    • Erica says:

Still on the edge. They’ll never leave!

  68. chilango says:

Shut down inning CC got it?

  69. Hummingbird S. says:

any news on still not working?

  70. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    That was a filthy slider.

  71. JonS says:

That’s a weird way to see the game. haha

  72. Mike N says:

There must be Japanese announcers on during the lulls when they put up the line score in Japanese, but they are not coming through in the feed. Too bad.

  73. Brian S says:

Hey everyone, you should all keep talking about I guess I didn’t get a new haircut.

  74. DERP says:

The Mariners are complete shit. They have faced three scrubs in their series against the Orioles and they are probably going to get swept.

  75. Erica says:

    Casey McGehee = TRUE YANKEE

  76. Oh Micheal how I missed you, with your insight…”If a ball goes over the bag it’s fair.” just in case this is your first time you’ve ever seen a baseball game.

  77. Mike N says:

Let’s POUND this fucker out of the game. NOW!

  78. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    lovin the RISP wins today

  79. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I’m sick of all this RISPwin.

  80. Hummingbird S. says:

this version of the Yankees’ offense is so much better

  81. Brian S says:

Fuck Millwood for pitching us tough and then blowing it against the Orioles.

  82. Brian S says:

    Leyland is scared. lolololol

  83. chilango says:

    About fuckin time.

  84. Get Phelps Up says:

    Embedded Oriole Kevin Millwood.

  85. Mike N says:

  86. Dan says:

I like this Yankees lineup – Other than Ichiro being in there. I would rather have Dwayne Wise than Ichiro. All he does is hit weak ground balls. I don’t think we will see Granderson leading off anymore. Finally Joe!!!!

  87. Brett Pedroia says:

I gotta say, that WB Mason commercial might be my favorite on television ;)

  88. Kramerica Industries says:

Welcome to the American League, (C)anibal Sanchez.

  89. Mike N says:

That was good baserunning by Jeter. Now bring him in!

  90. The Real Greg says:

    The fundamentals at work

  91. Erica says:

    Save some runs for tomorrow!

Kidding – we can NEVER have enough these days.

  92. Mike N says:

    Beautiful! 7-0!!!!!!

  93. Big Member says:

    Suck it Sanchez

  94. Brian S says:

And the Blue Jays are blowing it too…

  95. Get Phelps Up says:

    Eric Chavez is so awesome.

  96. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Wow, ZombieChavez is on fire.

  97. Erica says:

    Love you, Chav-Zombie.

  98. Brian S says:

Come on Grandy. Get one more in to keep fucking up Anibal’s ERA.

  99. DERP says:

Remember how Ted Nelson tried to argue that we should have signed Punto instead of Chavez?

  100. Kramerica Industries says:

Seriously, if this is how the Yankees play every time crashes, then I will never complain about either of them, ever again.

  101. Erica says:

    McGehee = True Yankee x2

  102. Mike N says:

  103. your mom says:

    I hate Brenda Boesch

  104. Erica says:

    Where are you, bridge jumpers?

  105. Karl Krawfid says:

Would be nice to have a young short stop that gobbles that up like nothing man.

  106. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Fuck Boesch and his fucking dinky seeing eye singles.

  107. DERP says:

Millwood just allowed a home run to Mark Reynolds. LOL at him.

  108. widget says:

typical. giving up hits to crappy players. This team is soft #yesterday

  109. DERP says:

I probably would have killed myself if he had walked Boesch.

  110. Brian S says:

That was right down the middle! WTF!

  111. Karl Krawfid says:

Where the hell was that pitch!

  112. DERP says:

    Kevin Millwood should kill himself.

  113. Kramerica Industries says:

Orioles trying to negate their awful run diff. tonight.

At least the Yankees are winning, for a change.

  114. chilango says:

TB is the team to worry about.

  115. The Real Greg says:

Flaherty’s expectations are in fantasy land

  116. Kramerica Industries says:

God Almighty, listening to this Rays game with Brian Anderson just makes me yearn for the not-so-homerrific YES-men.

BA: “The Rays rotation has been fantastic of late…no reason James Shields can’t keep up his last two starts…Matt Moore can be even better…Jeremy Hellickson…”. I mean, FUCK MAN, the Rays have the best ERA since the ASB, and there’s room for improvement?

‘Cuz, if there is, then we are witnessing the greatest starting staff in MLB history, and no one knows about it. I could actually analyze my rebuttals, but I really couldn’t care to. Inane stuff just draws my ticks.

  117. Brian S. says:

How come the Yankees never hit mop-up men?

  118. Kramerica Industries says: has sprung to life.

    At least, for Yankees/Tigers.

  119. Brian S. says:

Was Edgar Martinez on roids? He had a 140 wRC+ at age 40.

  120. Mike N says:

If anyone cares, the Detroit broadcast is now available on MLB.TV. Still no YES, though.

  121. I just want to clarify, the sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssee yeah was for real? I thought it was just the fact I was watching this stream.

  122. Brian S. says:

Maybe A-Rod can hit like Edgar Martinez when he becomes the full time DH?

  123. DERP says:

How many Mariners fans killed themselves the past few days? Both Chris Tillman and Adam Jones killed them and Erik Bedard threw seven shutout innings for Pittsburgh.

  124. Dale Mohorcic says: is working again.

  125. Kempire Strikes Back says:

If you guys think Kay’s home run call today was bad, skip to 6 minutes and 48 seconds of this video:

  126. Just changed over to the radio…watching the game was nice and all, but the quality was just so bad.

  127. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  128. Mike N says:

    C’mon, Swisher!!! DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  129. Kramerica Industries says:

Sometimes, I really wonder what world Nick Swisher is living in.

  130. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Face palm

  131. I hate the book on Tex is just throw change-ups down. He’s a good hitter, he’d be a great hitter if he could learn to lay off them.

  132. Rocky Road Redemption says:

Am I the only person who saw Swisher give up in the middle of that run-down and give Prince Fielder a hug?

I know, I know, being thrown out was bad, but that was fucking hilarious. Only because we have a 6 run lead with our Ace pitching, but still.

  133. YOu know what “Brian S.” if that is your real name, you complained about nobody talking about your hair cut, so I complemented you on it. And no response.

so done doing nice things for people =P

  134. fucking seriously CC.

  135. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

OK, that’s enough of that now CC.

  136. Kramerica Industries says:

    Christ almighty, C.C.

  137. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Not an Ace.

  138. Karl Krawfid says:

Why would Ichiro be so deep?

  139. Mike N says:

    C’mon, now: DP.

  140. Karl Krawfid says:

Jeff Baker. Not home run Baker damn.

  141. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    WTF Robbie?

  142. chilango says:

Swisher’s bonehesad move isn’t so funny now is it,

  143. Karl Krawfid says:

    This is Yankee baseball.

  144. Mike N says:

  145. The Real Greg says:

This is either going to snowball out of control or it will stop

  146. Brian S. says:

    Well here we go…

  147. Kramerica Industries says:

So relieved to see dying on me, again.

  148. Karl Krawfid says:

    CC is slide stepping.

Why are you slide stepping man.

  149. chilango says:

thin line between effortless and lazy. WTF Robbie

  150. your mom says:

    Troll time! Yes!

  151. Mike N says:

  152. Brian S. says:

    Not an ace.

  153. The Real Greg says:

Good job by CC not to let it snowball

  154. Get Phelps Up says:

Grandy a triple away from the cycle.

  155. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Grandy atoning for his recent stretch of suckiness.

  156. Brian S. says:

Grandy triple away from the cycle!

  157. Mike N says:

What’d he do? I just stepped away.

  158. Mike N says:

Lead off double! Now bring him home!!!!

  159. The Real Greg says:

    Gets the job done

  160. Mike N says:

    Small ball!

  161. The Real Greg says:

    The fundamentals again

  162. Mike N says:

  163. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Prince Fielder isn’t going to be winning any gold gloves anytime soon.

  164. tyrone sharpton says:

Chavez is really attractive, damn. loved watching him when he was on the a’s..glad to see he’s still got game

  165. your mom says:

    The streak continues.

  166. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Nice pick off move.

  167. Brian S. says:

What the fuck are we doing?

  168. DLSIII says:

Does anyone have any info on the Yankees minor legue pitcher that got suspended today?

  169. DLSIII says:

    Carlos diaz

  170. Mike N says:

I would really like to see CC complete this game.

  171. Mike N says:

Whoah. Infante got some wood on that.

  172. Karl Krawfid says:

    New York Yankee baseball!

    So Crisp…So clean!

  173. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  174. Kramerica Industries says:

Seriously. has been a flat out joke tonight. Some people need to get fired.

  175. Brian S. says:

    Fuck our defense.

  176. Kempire Strikes Back says:

  177. Mike N says:

    Another botched DP!

  178. widget says:

crappy hitters are coming up. better get a DP here CC.

  179. Mike N says:

    Good recovery, Teix!

  180. Brian S. says:

  181. Karl Krawfid says:

    CC Should beat up somebody.

    Start with Joe G.

  182. JobaWockeeZ says:

I usually think Girardi overmanages but I don’t blame him here.

    • CBean says:

See I was mad at him the last two nights for not taking nova and Hughes out but tonight I think he was too quick. CC has earned trust; the other not so much.

  183. Mike N says:

Whi did CC just grimace like that???

  184. Brian S. says:

Weird. They usually don’t take out CC this early.

  185. Frank says:

Girardi doesn’t have confidence CC can get Young out with 2 outs and an 8-4 lead. I knew CC wouldn’t shut this team down but if he’s your supposwed “ace” you need to let him get out of this jam even if it’s not all his fault.

  186. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  187. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    wtf was that?

  188. Mike N says:

    Are you fucking KIDDING me?????

  189. Karl Krawfid says:

This is just a joke man.

  190. Kramerica Industries says:

For a game that was 7-0, this has been seriously fucking annoying.

    Fucking Detroit, fucking Comerica…

  191. Brian S. says:

I hate our defense so much.

  192. swishers fauxhawk says:

    defensive clinic

  193. Kempire Strikes Back says:

What the fuck is this defense?

The official scorer is obviously a Tigers fan for ruling that a hit.

  194. Kramerica Industries says:

    Well that’s just fucking great.

  195. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  196. Mike N says:

  197. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Jesus, Robertson.

  198. Rocky Road Redemption says:

WOW, we are really bad right now…

  199. Kramerica Industries says:

There are only three solid hitters in the Tigers lineup.

Letting the rest of them beat you is just begging for enormous trouble.

  200. The Real Greg says:

This will either snowball or stop

  201. Cuso says:

    what the hell is happening?

  202. Athenian says:

Nice job Joe. Perhaps you should just stay out of the way.

  203. JobaWockeeZ says:

Soriano contract still sucks but I’m glad we have him.

  204. chilango says:

Since he came back from the DL, Robbie hasn’t been lights out. Should have left CC in.

  205. Kempire Strikes Back says:

I swear to god if Boesch gets another dinky seeing eye single….

  206. Kramerica Industries says:

The inability to K Boesch has been unreal.

  207. Kramerica Industries says:

How many fucking chicken shit hits is Boesch going to get?

    Fucking hell.

  208. WHIPunk says:

You gotta be kidding me, we warm blooded, we ain’t no cold blooded killa’s

  209. The Real Greg says:

Actually I’d rather it be this way. Let’s win the close game for once

  210. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Can’t wait for Aardsma.

  211. Karl Krawfid says:

Admit it. This team is not good.

  212. Mike N says:

This was so much more relaxing when it was 6-0 and we were laughing at Swisher getting picked off.

  213. Frank says:

    Just bad luck there.

  214. Tom says:

This is why you don’t give away outs on the bases and pinch hit when lefties come in to pitch against lefties who can’t hit lefties.

  215. JonS says:

    Haha this is just comical.

  216. WHIPunk says:

Avila looks primed for a double here, I would loathe it but he’s up there with swagger

  217. Bartolo's Colon says:

i hate this fucking team, what did the all star break do to them. they cannot do anything right. that is all

  218. Rich in NJ says:

Boesch has been really lucky with BABIP this series, but otoh, when you put the ball in play (rather than K) you give yourself a chance to be lucky.

  219. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Pull him out.

  220. Athenian says:

Fucking pathetic. Tie game coming up. Joe can’t manage, Robertson can come in the middle of an inning, and seeing eye grounders… Splat

  221. Karl Krawfid says:

    Fucking trash man.

  222. Brian S. says:

    Take him the fuck out.

  223. Kramerica Industries says:

This game is describing the Yankees season, thus far, in a perfect nutshell.

It’s all come crashing down, all at once.

  224. Mike N says:

    This is a fucking nightmare.

  225. WHIPunk says:

Come On!!!! Someone stop this bleeding!

  226. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Step 1: Remove heads from asses.
    Step 2: Win games.

  227. bobtaco says:

Are they really going to blow this game?

  228. Kempire Strikes Back says:

No. NO. I refuse to believe they’re going to blow a 7-0 lead. It stops here.

  229. The Real Greg says:

All of you blaming Girardi should go to hell.

  230. WHIPunk says:

I swear to god if Santiago beats Robertson here……..

  231. your mom says:

    Drob, you suck tonight.

  232. Kramerica Industries says:

To think, this was a 7-0 game with Sabathia on the mound out there.

If the Yankees can’t hold onto that kind of game, then there are bigger problems with this team than we realize.

  233. Arya says:

When the going gets tough our best pitchers run and hide. Nobody can complain about the offense not scoring enough runs tonight. And with our “ace” on the mound this should have been a slam dunk victory.

    • Austin's Bat says:

Its so strange. Girardi has infinite patience letting Nova pitch himself into oblivion, pulls Hughes quick, leaves Eppley in against multiple (!) lefties yesterday causing a run that really mattered. Tonight has a super quick hook with CC but lets Robertson blow his brains out for 5 batters. He is so lost and second guessing himself.

  234. DT says:

    This inning is just bullshit

  235. Stratman9652 says:

Seriously? They are really finding ways to lose lately.

  236. Rocky Road Redemption says:

I’ve just detached myself completely from this team and decided to become amused by the horror show that is the New York Yankees.

  237. JobaWockeeZ says:

Joe isn’t at fault, Robertson let everyone down.

    • widget says:

totally. If CC stayed out there and gave up a few more runs. Everyone would complain that Robertson should come in. The situation that arose was the perfect time to use Robertson.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

By getting weak ground balls? Yeah DRob was awful.

  238. xnyles says:

Nice, Yankees are doing their best mets impression.

  239. chilango says:

Robbie’s fucking up…again. We look like shit.

  240. widget says:

    THIS loss is rock bottom.

  241. Brian S. says:

Cano, Teixeira, and McGehee booted outs.

  242. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Hilarious….Girardi out thinks himself again removing CC too early

  243. your mom says:

Pleas just hit a HR and call it a game.

  244. Mike N says:

I like how Kay can’t opine, “Girardi should never have taken out Sabathia, the ace on a low pitch count”. So he instead says, “People are gonna ask, How could Girardi have taken out Sabathia, the ace on a low pitch count?”

  245. chilango says:

    put the fucker away Robbie!

  246. Captain Gift Basket says:

This team is going nowhere. I smell collapse.

  247. Mike N says:

  248. Cuso says:

I’m setting the over/under of number of pitches it takes to retire the Yankees in the top of the 8th at:

    9 (NINE)

    what do you take?

  249. The Real Greg says:

  250. Kramerica Industries says:

Even after that, who the hell is pitching the 8th?

    Can’t be Robertson.

  251. Rich in NJ says:

Phew, but this team is just a mess right now.

  252. JobaWockeeZ says:

Knowing how things are going I’m betting it’ll be an easy 1-2-3 inning. Prove me wrong please.

  253. RBC says:

    So, how about those Olympics??

  254. Rocky Road Redemption says:

Hey guys! We’re still winning! We might WIN!!!!

…Okay, I can’t even make MYSELF believe it. This is just pitiful.

  255. stuart a says:

robertson with no curve ball tonight at all.

nothing is going right.. game in and game out….

nice fielding friggin mcghee, you suck…..

ichiro is playing on the warning track for singles hitters.

btw can andy dirks not get a hit with 2 outs? the guy is the anti yankee…….

  256. Frank says:

So I guess Phelps is pitching the 8th cause there’s way Soriano goes 2 innings.

  257. chilango says:

    Soriano for two?

  258. Brian S. says:

I think Soriano has to pitch the next inning. Damn the save, top of the lineup comes up we need our best relief pitcher in.

  259. DT says:

Awful Defense and stupid softly hit singles…

  260. Mike N says:

  261. Kempire Strikes Back says:

I don’t blame Girardi for taking out CC when he did, but that move backfired like a bitch. At least they’ve still got the lead.

  262. The Real Greg says:

    Everybody calm the fuck down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  263. TomH says:

This has been one of those games that puts me in mind of some old philosopher’s saying, “When you see something slipping, give it a shove.” With the Tigers doing the seeing and shoving. Be interesting to see how the Yanks respond this inning.

  264. Arya says:

Joe needs to put Soriano in for the 2 inning save. We need to stop the bleeding and he’s all we’ve got.

  265. chilango says:

    Phil Phucking Coke

  266. AnthonyD says:

Can’t help horse shit seeing eye and broken bat singles. There was some bad defense, but a crazy amount of poor contact contributed to these runs.

  267. Rocky Road Redemption says:

3 pitches. Right now we’re on pace for nine.

  268. Mike N says:

Seeing Coke out there has me feeling a bit better.

  269. Rich in NJ says:

A run reverses (or at least slows down) their momentum.

  270. Brian S. says:

    Really keep in Robertson?

  271. Mike N says:

  272. JonS says:

Robertson is going to pitch the 8th too. Because he was just so dominant in the 7th.

  273. Brian S. says:

Come on Teix. We need another clutch hit of yours.

  274. Mike N says:

  275. tabbert says:

This is a major Problem. IF you spot Verlander, Weaver, Price, and other elite AL pitchers.. well any other elite “ACES” a 7 run lead …it’s a slam dunk win. But, leave it to CC to find a way to make this a ball game again. Look, i get that the tigers are good..But isn’t CC suppose to be a dominant ACE? I Just don’t understand how we are suppose to have any confidence at this point. When your ACE cant even hold a 7 run lead for you, things don’t look very good.

    • Heisenberg's Hat says:

You’re putting all 7 runs on CC?

      • tabbert says:

NO. But, this game should have never been close. This dude is paid to be a complete shut down/ dominant ace. The dude couldn’t even give us 7 innings in a game in which he was spotted a 7 run lead. Just saying… you wouldn’t see Guys like Verlander,Price, weaver, blow massive leads like that. When did i ever say he was responsible for all the runs?

    • AnthonyD says:

There is no evidence to support this

    • Bunt Gardner says:

Are you unable to read a box score?

    • Rocky Road Redemption says:

You can’t be serious. Robertson shit the bed.

      • AnthonyD says:

this isn’t really true either – de facto error, broken bat hit, et al

        • Rocky Road Redemption says:

You beat me to it, I was just about to revise my comment. But yeah, what you said.

This game is a perfect “call a team meeting afterward” game, win or lose. And I’m still not optimistic, honestly.

  276. Frank says:

    Got to cash in here.

  277. DERP says:

    home run incoming

  278. chilango says:

gotta get at least one here.

  279. Tom says:

Cano was smart there… hit the first pitch and don’t give Swisher a chance to get picked off again.

  280. The Real Greg says:

  281. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  282. Rich in NJ says:

    Love Teix batting RH.

  283. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Can’t remember the last time an insurance run felt so good.

  284. bobtaco says:

Wow, a runner scored from second!

  285. Brian S. says:

    LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  286. Rocky Road Redemption says:

    5 pitches, but with a HIT!!!Wowee!!!

  287. Mike N says:

  288. Kempire Strikes Back says:

  289. Arya says:

Well there’s some much needed insurance.

  290. Will The Thrill says:

I knew this team would find a way to make this game interesting. Jeez. We can’t even have a blowout. Severe overreaction by Girardi when he took CC out. Yeah Delmon Young is a righty but he’s no Miggy Cabrera. Sheesh. Oh well. Hindsight is 20/20.

  291. DT says:

    Offense got this shit…

  292. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

I wasn’t watching, so maybe I missed something that was obvious on video, but why is everyone blaming Robertson for that inning? Two infield singles (one of which should have been an error) aren’t this fault, and those were the first and third batters he faced, and if either had been an out the inning would have ended then.

Maybe now that the Yankees have scored again, everyone can calm down a little and realize that Robertson didn’t really pitch particularly poorly.

    • AnthonyD says:

You are correct. No one should be blaming him. Unless you want to blame him for not striking out BB because you have to assume he will get a seeing eye single at this point.

    • Rocky Road Redemption says:

Yeah, you’re right, going over that inning again it was really the fault of really really shitty defensive play.

  293. JonS says:

Robertson congratulated him in the dugout because now he can give up another run and “be ok”.

  294. Mike N says:

    Why no Jones??????

  295. chilango says:

    two more let’s go guys…

  296. your mom says:

    No PH?

  297. Cuso says:

    Good job, Teix.

i think we should start calling Teix, “T-Bone”

(if he screws up we can call him Koko the Monkey)

  298. DERP says:

    Where are the Andruws?

  299. Frank says:

C’mon Chavez. We need a Boesch type hit.

  300. chilango says:

    where andruw?

  301. Brian S. says:

Just get a run in Chavez. Flyball.

  302. Arya says:

Good AB by Chavy. Now just lift a fly ball to deep right.

  303. The Real Greg says:

Everybody be quiet about Jones, Chavez has been hot

  304. Frank says:

What a great AB by Chavez.

  305. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Side note: even though he was pretty decent for the Yankees, I never trusted Phil Coke. Dunno why.

  306. Kramerica Industries says:

    Productive out, Chavy.

  307. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    nice AB

  308. Brian S. says:

    There ya go Chavy!

  309. Rich in NJ says:

    Thanks, Coke.

  310. The Real Greg says:

  311. Mike N says:

  312. Frank says:

    Great job by Chavez.

  313. Get Phelps Up says:

    That was rather huge.

  314. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    That’ll do, Eric. That’ll do.

  315. chilango says:

    Good AB another insurance run.

  316. DERP says:

Have there been any fly balls for Cock to point at?

  317. Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    Epic AB for chavy

  318. Tyler says:

    Embedded Yankee Phil Coke

  319. Rich in NJ says:

In these spots making contact often beats swinging for the fences. Props, Chavez.

  320. chilango says:

Coke Melancon and Aceves the Yankees secret weapon.

  321. JonS says:

    We had a Coke and a smile…

  322. Few things from my bus ride home:

The driver and woman who is always on the bus when I’m on now think I’m crazy from banging my head against the window for the entire bottom of the 7th

Sounds as if McGehee should’ve made that play, and turned two on it.

    What the fuck Tex.

I know it worked out, but I think taking CC out was a bad move.

  323. Frank says:

So now it’s D-Rob facing the top of the order-that means Cabrera.

  324. Brian S. says:

    Quick 1-2-3 inning right meow!!!

  325. DERP says:

Coke has the least swag of any big leaguer.

  326. Rocky Road Redemption says:

I give Joe credit for paying attention to the game and sticking with D-Rob.

  327. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

The box score doesn’t look pretty, but D-Rob has been pretty sharp tonight.

  328. Evitable says:

Curtis and Cano need to take a class – “How To Manage an At-Bat Like a Vet” – taught by Eric Chavez. It would be a hard class, because it would be so easy to just get lost in Eric’s dreamy eyes and not hear what he says, but it would be really helpful for the team.

  329. Evitable says:

Hahaha right D-Rob was pitching just fine.

  330. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    horrible pitch

  331. Kramerica Industries says:

    And it’s now 10-8.

    Seriously, nothing easy.

  332. Mike N says:

What the hell was the purpose of Ichiro swinging on the fence like a jungle gym?

  333. widget says:

robertson sucks. just finish blowing this game already.

  334. The Real Greg says:

    Everybody calm down.

  335. WHIPunk says:

    DO NOT put cabrera on

  336. The Real Greg says:

    Calm down now

    • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Honestly dude, you are the biggest dbag on this board. You thrash everyone for their opinions, act like a total tool and then tell everyone else to calm down. How bout you calm the fuck down

  337. DERP says:

    huge out

  338. Mike N says:

Was Soriano warming? Is he coming in?

  339. Frank says:

D-Rob very lucky there. Miggy just missed squaring that and making it 10-9.

  340. Matt says:

Robertson’s fastball velocity dropped to 90 mph in that at bat to Infante, and was down to 89 against Cabrera. Amazing that Girardi left him in to throw that many pitches when he was clearly out of gas.

  341. chilango says:

Robbie hasn’t been right since he came off the DL.

  342. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Nice job Boone.

  343. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Loone Bogan gets it done.

  344. Mike N says:

(Anyone who claims they weren’t anxious that Cano was gonna boot that is lying.)

  345. The Real Greg says:

This could be a win that turns the ship around. Going upstream against all the bad luck hits and patterns that have haunted this team the past few weeks.

    • chilango says:

No way, The hits were there, but otherwise we played like shit. Sloppy, unfocused, lousy pitching. Same old story. This team is in trouble. I bet Sori makes it interesting.

  346. Rocky Road Redemption says:

Who wants to bet that Sori allows at least one run? I won’t GUARANTEE two. I’ll give it a 50-50 shot he allows two runs.

  347. Dandy The Yankee says:

Hey, maybe we can actually WIN a one run game this time….7 run lead be damned….

  348. Rich in NJ says:

Martin has very little chance v. tough RHP.

  349. AnthonyD says:

Brennan Boesch is due about 10 straight rocket at’em balls

  350. I’m just saying, win or lose if I am Girardi I am going nuclear after this game. Kick the media out as soon as possible, flip the food table and going off after this game. With the way the team’s been playing of late, to have that big of a lead and have your defense, ace, and big time bullpen arm nearly give it back…I’d probably yell until my heart failed.

  351. Rich in NJ says:

    Nix has been pretty decent.

  352. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Pasta Diving Fielder!

  353. chilango says:

7 run fucking lead and it turns into a nail-biter. This team needs help

  354. The Real Greg says:

  355. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Nice. They need all the help they can get.

  356. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Villarreal has actually been close to a few balks this inning. Not surprised that he got called on it.

  357. Get Phelps Up says:

    lol a balk

  358. Mike N says:

    Too bad it wasn’t a balk-off!!!!!!!

  359. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Thanks for the insurance, Villarreal.

  360. Mike N says:

When your manager doesn’t even lean forward on the bench, you know you balked.

  361. Swish is having a huge OBP day today.

  362. Mike N says:

Yeah, but he got picked off like a dumbass!

  363. Rocky Road Redemption says:

This is reminiscent of that ridiculous Arizona game in 09′.

  364. JonS says:

    It’s been Villarreal…

  365. The Real Greg says:

    OH YEAH!

  366. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

When did the Tigers pick up Damon to play left?

  367. Fuck it keep running, keep scoring, keep hitting.

  368. Mike N says:

Oh, shit, yeah!!!!!!!! I was getting some more wine and missed that! WOOOO!!!!!!

  369. chilango says:

    Robbie WRISP….nice.

  370. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Prediction: nobody will remember that great piece of hitting the next time that Cano makes an out with RISP.

  371. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Who was it that said the Yankees can’t score late?

  372. JonS says:

Dirks has the arm of a grade school girl.

  373. The Troll says:

Damn. WTF happened? When I left it was 7-1 . . . Even when they win they somehow manage to suck.

  374. Mike N says:

That interminable dugout interview of Fister yesterday on MLB Network made me hate him with a passion. I really hope the Yanks destroy him tomorrow. Like knock him out by the third inning.

  375. Nice play by Dirks, but that ball carried forever, I thought it was dunking way closer to home than were he caught it.

  376. JonS says:

Hahaha Cabrera and Santiago were the only players without a hit in this game.

  377. Mike N says:

  378. Get Phelps Up says:

    Yankees win and I’m happy.

  379. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Ugly win, but a much needed win.

  380. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Hideous win. But a win is a win, baby.

Just win tomorrow and get the split.

  381. The Real Greg says:

One of the biggest wins of the year for the Yankees. They could have let this get away with bad luck bloopers and crappy defense. But they won anyway. Its almost like exorcising the demons

  382. pistol pete says:

Finally the light goes off in Girardi’s head and he bats Cano third and Granderson in the middle of the lineup and out of the one hole. I hope he stays with Cano 3rd and Grandy in the middle and stop fucking around with Cano’s head. Leave him 3rd for the next five years.

  383. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Keep the lineup, play better defense, win. Fin.

  384. Ichy balls says:

Leave swisher in the 2 hole screw the binder.

  385. chilango says:

Still think Swish should bat lower, he whiffs and chokes too much, but NOT TONIGHT so it’s all good. Go for the split tomorrow and let’s put the phucks to Fister.
