Game 115: Play today, win today

By

(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Chris Young)

So this is a pretty big series, no? It’s the teams with the two best records in the league and arguably the two best teams in baseball overall, so this should be a measuring stick for both the Rangers and Yankees. Is it really though? Neither club is at full strength, both teams have sizable leads in their respective divisions, and heck, given the playoff schedule you can argue that finishing with the second best record in the league is preferable to finishing with the best. Eh, whatever. Just win the damn game. Here’s the starting nine…

SS Derek Jeter
DH Nick Swisher
2B Robinson Cano
1B Mark Teixeira
3B Eric Chavez
CF Curtis Granderson
Russell Martin
LF Raul Ibanez
RF Ichiro Suzuki

RHP David Phelps

Tonight’s game is scheduled to start a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and ESPN2 nationally. Enjoy.

I haven’t had a chance to go over the Playoff schedule, can somebody please explain why the team with the second best record has the advantage?

    • Strat

If the Yankees were to be the one seed it’s entirely possible they could have to fly someplace like Anaheim to play the first two games of a series on the road.

      • Sarah

And they have 3 days off, followed by the LDS, and no days off between the LDS and the LCS is the series goes to 5.

The two seed gets to go to the three seed, and their LDS starts a day earlier.

  • Pat D

I can’t figure it out. Is a split OK for this series, or do they need to win 3?

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

They don’t “need” any win or wins at this point. They can lose 3 of 4 and be completely fine.

And even if you argue that they can’t afford a small losing streak at this point, there’s nothing special about these particular 4 games. It doesn’t matter if they lose 3 of 4 to Texas and then win 3 of 4, as opposed to going 4-4 in some other way, and the same goes for any other result for the next several games.

      • Heisenberg’s Hat

Do you really view the baseball season like that? It doesn’t sound very exciting.

        • Deep Thoughts

Dude, that’s exactly how to view it. Their magic number at this moment stands at 44. Every game is a “must-win” till that number reaches zero. It’s pretty simple.

  • captain kiwi

hoping for the best, expecting the worst with phelps starting :/

    • Laz

I dont think Phelps will blow up, I just don’t know how deep he will go after being in the bullpen for awhile.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Just of note, Lowe is #34 to answer my Numberwatch stuff earlier. Guess Aardsma will get No. 34 next year if Lowe doesn’t return.

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

Explain the logic of our best power hitter hitting 6th?

    • vicki

      robbie’s hitting sixth?

      • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

Robbie has 30 home runs? Never has

        • vicki

          “best power hitter.”

maybe i should’ve said chavez is hitting sixth?

  • vicki

    das it!

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

5IP 2-4ER to high of expectations for Phelps?

    • flamingo

Nah, I think that’s where he’ll be, too. Well, I think 3-5 is more likely, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

    • Chilango

That’s about right. Won’t go more than 5, likely to get hammered. Hope not.

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

I don’t think so. I seem to be in the minority of people who think Phelps can be very good. His stats and peripherals have been great so far.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

He’s been great, but they’re (Texas) a great line up.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

DAVID PHELPS IS A STAHTING PITCHA!!!!!!!!!!

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      Nevermind, he allowed a hit!

      TO DA BULLPEN!!!!!!!!

  • jjyank

    Nice start, Phelps.

ESPN crew: Don’t you EVER fucking say “wicked smahhht” when announcing a Yankee game EVER.

    • G

Eh I use that quote sometimes, but using it in a broadcast is a little ridiculous.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

completely off topic, but it’s been all over the internet to the point where even I’ve seen it, what do you guys think of Miley Cyrus’ new hair-cut. I think she looks cute as fuck with it. Feel free to ridicule me for bringing it up though.

    • jjyank

Ew. Very much disagree, sir. Not a fan of short hair on women.

      • captain kiwi

neither am i, save for emma watson.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

          Hermoine <3

        • jjyank

Just Googled that one. Still nope. She’s really hot, don’t get me wrong, but she was wayyyy hotter with longer hair.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Absolutely. I think Cyrus looks better with short hair though. Especially blonde, she looks like a hipster chick that I’d fall for within minutes of meeting.

            • jjyank

I guess the hipster thing just isn’t for me. Blonde is cool, but it’s just too short. I don’t mind pseudo-short hair, like bottom of the ear short. But she’s too short for my liking.

I’m a shoulder-length kind of guy. Super long hair is just as much of a turn off for me.

              • captain kiwi

oh she’s def hotter with longer hair, she’s just the only female i’ve ever known that i was okay with having short hair. i love long hair, mid-back.

                • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You guys tell me that Natalie Portman isn’t hot as shit bald. You’d be lying.

                  • captain kiwi

                    lawlsssss

                  • jjyank

Nope. But her almost came in my pants during Star Wars episode 2 when they were in the arena and her skin-tight uniform had those rips in it.

But then Haden Christenson came make on screen, and that was my cold shower. But that’s another rant for another day…or for now: What the fuck were they thinking casting him for the guy who was supposed to turn into one of the most badass villains ever?

                    • jjyank

                      *but she almost made me

                      Typing fail.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Well he was also supposed to be angsty as fuck, so Christenson got that part right, otherwise I completely agree that the “prequel trilogy” is an abortion of a movie series.

                    • jjyank

He went far beyond “angsty” and way too far into “he’s just a little bitch”.

                  • Robinson Tilapia

I’m with you, Plouffy, especially on Hermione.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

                      Thank you R-Til

                    • jjyank

You know I’ve thought about calling him R-Til before, but I wasn’t sure of the reception that I would get.

                    • Robinson Tilapia

I like short androgynous hair…..except if Mrs. Tilapia were to do it. I married her for her long blonde locks.

                    • Robinson Tilapia

                      R-Til, eh? Fine with it.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

It had to be done at least once. Lol, and apart from you(JJ), Greg, R-Tils, and maybe Erica doe you think anybody got Plouffy?

                    • jjyank

Probably not. And in the name of that, I hearby go back to it instead of calling you Riddle. Riddle never rolled off my tongue (read: keyboard) well anyway.

                    • jjyank

One more thing: when was the last time a thread got this long (with several comments deep enough that you can’t embed replies any more) that WASN’T some sort of blow-out argument?

                    • Robinson Tilapia

                      Plouffy forever.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

                      Never. Lol.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Love ya, buddy, but I’m pretending that you never posted this.

    • Bunt Gardner

She looks like Draco Malfoy now.

      • jjyank

Hahaha I can totally see that!

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        you’re a bad person.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

I actually do like short hair on women sometimes because it can accentuate the neck.

      However, she looks awful.

I just looked at the picture and thought it was Macaulay Culkin

  • CUYanks

It’s too bad we’re facing Josh Hamilton on one of his upswings. He was cold as ice for a good month.

  • Hall and Nokes

Times Andrus will reach base safely in this series: O/U 10.5

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      under. 10

  • CUYanks

Are we almost guaranteed to see Lowe in this game if Phelps doesn’t go 5? Or will Joe manage differently if the game is close?

    • vicki

lowe could be useful in short relief. plenty of righties.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

:( I thought Phelpsy would get out of it.

    • jjyank

Not really his fault. Infield single, broken bat looper, and a walk to a guy he should be careful with.

I just hate that he threw like 25 pitches and his pitch count was an issue before the game started.

    • CUYanks

He broke his bat. 1 run in the first inning isn’t terrible. Dempster is a wildcard here anyway.

  • captain kiwi

    >.>

  • The Real Greg

I don’t feel good about this. At this rate, Lowe’s coming in in the 3rd or 4th

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

So which Dempster shows up tonight?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Btw, halfway through that inning I decided I was going to count the number of in game commercials/sponsor mentions during the game.

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

      What’s the count so far?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Only 1 so far…I’m sure it will raise exponentially as the game progresses.

  • Will The Thrill

I hate Grandy’s lack of range. If the Yankees extend him they should play him in right and play Gardner in center.

    • Laz

at this point i would rather them not extend him. He strikes out too much and his obp is deteriorating, and he isnt much of a cf anymore.

  • mt

Tough luck on broken bat single by Cruz. It was a good inning but at 27 pitches at this rate he is due for 3 innings.

Same thing will happen agaainst Red Sox on Saturday – tough to pitch against those 2 line-ups witha reduced pitch count.

    • mt

On the other hand, our lineup forces Dempster to sweat through a grand total of 10 pitches – sheesh.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ugh..I know a lot of you guys disagree with me, and Derek does well when he swings first pitch, but his rookie starter just threw 25 pitches the prior inning you think he could take a couple pitches…same with you Swish.

    • Heisenberg’s Hat

Everyone uses the excuse that he does well when he swings at the first pitch, but doesn’t he do even better when the count is in his favor?
I’d like to see him work the count as a leadoff hitter.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        First Pitch: .381/.396/.564
        Ahead: .351/.503/.520

        • Heisenberg’s Hat

          I can’t argue with that .503.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I think a lot of that comes from 3 ball counts though, you’re always one pitch away from getting On Base when you’re in a 3 ball count. You can’t get a walk on the first pitch.

          • jjyank

That OBP looks sexy, but a little misleading, no? Of course his OBP is much higher when he’s ahead in the count as opposed to swing at the first pitch. If it wasn’t something would be seriously wrong there.

Jeter swinging at the first pitch can often be frustrating, I won’t argue that. It bothers me occasionally too, but his overall body of work suggests that he knows what he’s doing when he swings at the first pitch.

            • Heisenberg’s Hat

I just think there are situations where you want to really work that count, like this game.

              • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Or the very first at-bat of the game.

            • Laz

I trust Derek enough to let him work his magic. Jeter is a pro and if he sees a pitch he thinks he could hit he shouldn’t wait. I stress obp alot, but Jeter knows what is a hittable pitch.

  • jjyank

Why does Dempster shake his glove like that mid-windup? I don’t recall seeing a quirk like that before.

    • CUYanks

I remember them doing a story on it a couple years back. I believe he thought he was tipping his pitches with his grip in his glove.

      • jjyank

Interesting. Because he’d been in the NL all along, I’ve never really seen him pitch before. In the first inning, I was like “WTF is he doing?” Makes sense though, that would certainly stop you from tipping pitches too early.

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

Way to go guys! A 10 pitch inning!

  • Will The Thrill

10 pitches, three outs 0 runs for the Yankees. 25 pitches, 3 outs 1 run for the Rangers. Way to go.

  • Chilango

Yanks need to be more patient at the plate. Swisher swings at junk low and away on a 2-0 count. Classic.

    • Will The Thrill

Definitely agree. They seem way too eager to swing.

    • Heisenberg’s Hat

Swinging at a 2-0 pitch is what you’re supposed to do. That IS working the count.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You’re rewriting it a little bit, I mean I’m only on gameday w/ radio, but that pitch to Swish was a hittable pitch according to Gameday.

  • captain kiwi

haha, i love a-rod, but that particular pic made him look like a HUGE baby.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    fuck balls.

  • Chilango

    We´re not in Toronto anymore.

  • Hummingbird S.

with the pitching the way it is, the Yankees might get swept by the Rangers.. there’s only one reliable pitcher in the rotation right now.

    • CUYanks

The Rangers aren’t exactly throwing 4 Cy Young pitchers at us, either.

    • captain kiwi

yeah, i really only ever look forward to freddy’s starts now.

      • Hummingbird S.

        I was talking about Hiroki..

        • captain kiwi

          i was kidding..

      • Laz

When you got 3 starters on the dl thats what happens.

    • Robinson Tilapia

b-b-b-b-ut David P-P-Phelps could be our n-n-n-umber three starter in the p-p-p-playoffs….

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    …really. talk about shitty luck.

  • Chilango

Phuckin Phelps is missing his spots.

  • jjyank

That replay on ESPN was really fucking cool. An over the head shot of Granderson tracking the fly ball, really cool angle. I don’t praise ESPN often (or ever), but bravo.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Phelps is apparently studying under Andy Pettitte.

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    Ok , let’s go boys

  • jjyank

Phelps seems to have a pretty damn good pick off move for a righty. He almost got Andrus in the first too.

    • Chilango

      But Kinsler was sleeping.

      • jjyank

And Andrus? You’re very negative, you know.

        • Chilango

I just said Kinsler was sleeping. Phelps does have a good pick off move, for a righty OK now?

          • jjyank

That part was a more general statement. Just trying to give the rookie some props when it was due, you should try it.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Be positive about the team in 1st place by 5+ games in their division? You realize you’re on RAB right?

              • jjyank

                Silly me.

  • DERP

Chavez gets a hit this inning and we score at least one run.

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

So glad the yanks didn’t sign Dempster, he’s too much into 1,2,3 innings.

    • Will The Thrill

Yankees only like to acquire scrubs at the deadline.

      • jjyank

And who would you have traded for an older, rental player who had never pitched in the AL before?

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Well with force-trade on, just give up Cervelli and Nix, duh.

    • DERP

He wasn’t a free agent dumbass.

    • Robinson Tilapia

I’m SHOCKED it took until 7:47 for someone to bust that out.

  • Will The Thrill

Horrible at bats. Can we switch hitting coaches with the Rangers?

    • Hummingbird S.

You probably need better hitters before you need a better hitting coach

      • Will The Thrill

I probably should’ve asked : Can we switch front offices with the Rangers?

        • Robinson Tilapia

Can we switch you with some random guy off a Rangers blog?

    • DERP

Why can’t you just enjoy the game without complaining about everything?

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Stop getting cute Jeter. Plant and throw, bitch.

    :D

  • Hummingbird S.

shitty D will probably lead to runs.. it’s just the way things are going nowadays

    • Hummingbird S.

phew, glad I was wrong… nice pickoffs!

  • DERP

I would complain about all the infield hits, but those are bound to happen when you have Jeter at short.

  • vicki

    stud.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Phelps=right handed AP.

  • Widget

phelps looks horrible and the bats look even worse. figures the game is on ESPN. they must be loving this.

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Really? The homer was obviously bad, but other than that it’s been a walk to one of the best hitters in the game, some broken-bat/infield singles, and 2 K’s.

      • captain kiwi

i don’t even really blame phelps for that homer. murphy went down and dug for that, was good hitting as opposed to shitty pitching.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

    Andy Phelps!

  • jjyank

    Guess Andrus was sleeping.

    • Chilango

Kinsler was sleeping, Andrus was leaning. Got it? Good.

      • jjyank

        Nope.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    The new Andy Pettitte!

  • DERP

cue talk about the Orioles catching us, the Rays catching us, the Red Sox catching us, the Yankees not going to miss the playoffs, etc.

    • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

      Cue you being a dbag

  • Cy Pettitte

Phelps should just hit every Texas player with the first pitch then pick them off 1st to be more pitch efficient.

    • vicki

      outside the box. like it.

  • Chilango

What a move. Phelps helps himself.

  • Heisenberg’s Hat

Does ESPN have some record of hating the Yankees? This is news to me.

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Fans of most teams think commentators are rooting against their team. The same goes for people here thinking that ESPN and Fox hate the Yankees. If you go to game threads of opposing teams, you will see the exact same complaints about how ESPN/Fox love the Yankees, fawn over Jeter, etc.

  • DERP

Any idea how many pitches Phelps has?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Johnny Pesky passed away today, that sucks and all, but apparently he was Suzyn’s uncle and they’re going on about him. Shit your uncle passed away, take a day off woman.

  • DERP

It is unfortunate the Beltre is such a good fielder

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    Great bunt

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

…let’s give away an out on 1 pitch. after the first two guys got on base. for the first two hits of the game. down 2.

    • Heisenberg’s Hat

I’m guessing Sterling loved that move.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

He just said “that was a good out.” I want to leap through the radio and stab him in his ugly fat face.

    • Chilango

Right. Giving up an out to advance the runner(s) is almost always a bad move.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

There’s better odds to score a run from second w/ no out than from third w/ 1 out. I forget the exact odds though.

        • Need Pitching & Hitting

Pretty sure that’s not true, but I thought it was still a dumb bunt.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I swear I read it somewhere. I could be wrong though.

            • Need Pitching & Hitting

I think it was a slightly higher chance of scoring at least one run with the successful bunt, but fewer total runs on average. Considering this game has a good chance of involving Derek Lowe pitching, playing for 1 run this early in the game is probably not a wise idea.

        • CUYanks

No, moving a runner to third increases the changes that 1 run will score, but overall reduces the expectancy of runs scored.

          • CUYanks

            I.e. this paper http://baseballanalysts.com/ar.....naly_1.php

says that run expectancy from 1st and 2nd no outs to 2nd and 3rd, 1 out goes from 1.504 down to 1.410.

However, the odds of scoring at least 1 run goes up from 0.637 to 0.689

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ok, that makes sense. I’m an idiot lol.

            • CUYanks

Not really, though. Early in a potentially high scoring game you should always go for the higher run expectancy. Bunting early in the game is like paying an insurance premium to hedge against losing a 1-0 game.

    • Tom

Hooray small ball! This is bound to be a low scoring contest.

All you need to know is Rick Sutcliffe thinks it was a great play to bunt.

  • Kevin G.

Surprised that play wasn’t as close as I thought it would be. I blame Beltre and Ichiro being old

  • sangreal

why didn’t Ichiro do that against the Tigers

  • Kramerica Industries

Find the right still shot, and one could barf from how much Beltre torqued his arm on that throw.

  • DERP

An ignore feature would be the greatest thing ever for this blog.

Dempster is just too much into 1-2-3 innings.

Chilango, what are your thoughts on Swish again?

    • jjyank

Who cares, Swisher ran over his dog. Baseball is irrelevant.

    • Get Phelps Up

A true clutch hitter would have waited until the 8th inning to do that.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Out of curiosity, how did the ESPN commentators call that home run? Excited?

    • jjyank

Yeah, they were. Not crazy, but not pissy either.

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Yeah, I think people here just notice when the commentators don’t sound especially excited for the Yankees and sound appropriately excited for the opposing team. Overall, I don’t think there’s any bias, but lots of people think there is for some reason.

        • jjyank

I don’t think the channels themselves have biases, but certain commenters do. John Smoltz, for example, always sounds like someone just murdered his dog whenever the Yankees do something positive.

        • sangreal

people on every single mlb forum think ESPN is biased against their team (usually in favor of the Yankees or Sox)

          • CUYanks

I think ESPN does have a lot of Red Sox fans, being in CT. That, plus the fact that they are always rooting for the “underdog” to knock the Yankees down a notch to promote interest, makes them look somewhat negative Yankees.

  • Tom

That bunt paid off big time!

Scared Dempster into walking Jeter and then allowed Swisher to hit the grand slam.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      Do you seriously believe that?

    • Hummingbird S.

      do you really believe that?

    TRADE THE FARM FOR DEMPSTER!!

/wait we aren’t saying that anymore?

  • Erica

My armchair GM father said that the Yanks should’ve signed Dempster.

I feel like I should go laugh at him right now.

    • captain kiwi

nah, he’s right. we DEF want to be on the other side of this right now.

      • Erica

He also told me that Montero got 2 home runs today. He has wild opinions about this team. It’s great.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Well Montero either did or didn’t hit two bombs today, that’s not really an opinion. That’s either a fact or falsehood.

          • Erica

Two separate thoughts, brought together by being awake since 5:30am.

            Here, I’ll fix it:

-He also told me that Montero got 2 home runs today.

            – He has wild opinions about this team. It’s great. (That was in reference to him wanting Dempster on the team).

Haha, jj, no, but I decided to start looking for a girl IRL as apposed to bothering some cute interweb Yankee fan =P

                    • jjyank

Damn. Let me know if you have success, meeting girls IRL is difficult in a new city, post-grad.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I can’t imagine. I’m having trouble meeting girls in the area that I’ve grown up in.

                    • jjyank

Yeah, I can’t exactly go to bars by myself, that’s weird. I’m sure something will pop off though. DC is a good city for that. Maybe once I move out of the ghetto :P

    • jjyank

Why do so many people say “signed”. Dempster costed more than just money, which is why I never wanted him.

      • Erica

        Exactly.

  • DERP

All he does is throw 1-2-3 innings. We sure could have used that!

    • Heisenberg’s Hat

      That’s all he does.

      • CUYanks

        He doesn’t even eat.

  • Nathan

    Unpossible!

  • Chilango

Let’s break it open here …

  • Kramerica Industries

    Eh, not bad.

  • DERP

Fire Daniels. He traded for some over the hill NL pitcher instead of giving the kids a chance.

    • Tom

“inconsistent” umpire strikezone… good to see ESPN has settled on the narrative on one of the reason Dempster has not pitched well.

      • Tom

        why did that go here?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Good tag by Chavez to get into scoring position. Btw all Grandy does is strike out or hit homers.

    • Erica

  • flamingo

It was too much to ask for two grand slams in one inning, right?

    (Didn’t stop me, though.)

  • Cy Pettitte

I would love to see Roy Oswalt in this game.

    • Erica

With that surly look on his face and everything.

  • DERP

How badly would Cashman be crucified here for signing Oswalt and trading for Dempster?

  • captain kiwi

raul comes in for the slame. make it happen

  • Athenian

As I said, Dempster cannot handle the AL East, and from the looks of it, the AL in general. Cashman >>>>>>>>>>> than anyone who wanted Dempster.

    • jjyank

I agree. I never wanted Dempster. Older pitcher, career NL guy, a rental. I mean I would have taken him for peanuts, but that wasn’t going to happen. Was glad on July 31 when the Yanks didn’t get him, and I’m glad now.

  • G

Guys we need a new hitting coach. NOW.

In all seriousness Russell might need his own personal coach… At least he puts together decent at bats. Not one of those guys who grounds out 1st or 2nd pitch every time.

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    Shut down inning please

  • DERP

    Shutdown inning please

    • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

At least we can agree on some things, lol

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Anybody hear about the show Copper, it’s going to be on BBC America next week, it looks really good.

    • jjyank

I haven’t, but that reminds me. I posted this the other day, but not sure if you saw it. After you likened my career goals to Sterling Archer, I watched all the episodes. Fucking great show, so thanks.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Haha, I think it’s probably the best comedy on tv right now, and one of the best overall. Copper is a British show based in 1890s NYC and a cop in that time.

        • Robinson Tilapia

          That should be awesome.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yep, premieres next sunday at 8.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Did you watch season 3 as well, or just the seasons available on Netflix?

        • jjyank

Just two seaons on Netlfix, didn’t realize there was a third. I’ll keep my eyes open though, it is seriously too funny.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Season 2 was my favorite so far, but season 3, especially the 3 part opener is hysterical. Funny story, the 3 parter that opened the season wasn’t even supposed to happen. Because of the NFL strike a show called The League (also funny in it’s own right) was delayed, because they reference the current NFL season during the show. Since the pre-season started late they turned to the writers of Archer, and they cranked out The Heart of Archerness Parts I,II, & III and are all hysterical.

            • jjyank

I’ll look forward to it. Also love The League, I’ve seen those already.

  • CUYanks

Please get through 5 and Lowe-proof this game, Phelps.

  • DERP

Assuming that Chavez stays healthy and keeps up this level of production (big ifs), what kind of contract does he get this offseason? I’m assuming one year, but how much money?

    • jjyank

No idea. But Chavez doesn’t seem like the type to hardball the team, he knows he’s a part time player and likely will be fun with settling to be paid as one. I’m sure he’ll get a raise though. Maybe something like $1.5 mil?

      • jjyank

fun = fine. Can’t type tonight, apparently.

    • Get Phelps Up

He was saying Yankees or retirement this offseason, so I’d imagine it wouldn’t take too much to bring him back.

  • Brett Pedroia

If you guys think Phelps is cool now, you should have seen him when he was 11. That’s the one that got away :(

  • Kramerica Industries

ESPN has had some awful camera work tonight.

    • Erica

      Ooooh, please elaborate!

  • Robinson Tilapia

I belatedly celebrate Swish’s garbage time grand slam. Was having dinner at the time.

  • Ichy balls

Really wasting phelps in the pen get over it girardi and keep him stretched out. He is a starter with better stuff than hughes.

  • Tom

    Hit and run here please

  • DERP

I am pretty sure the reason we are doing well is that Brian S. hasn’t posted in the thread.

    • jjyank

      Okay, there’s another one.

      Brian S. stays away.
      Plouffy rides the bus.
Erica pisses in adult diepers because she can’t leave the room.

I think I need one. What have I done during a Yankee victory? I don’t even know.

      • Erica

YUP, I have to pee like, I don’t know… what pees a lot? And I’m NOT getting up.

It’s been proven that this unhealthy method works.

Another hour Erica, you can hold it.

  • Erica

  • DERP

Kinsler looks a little bit like Rapada.

  • G

How does the ball even bounce that perfectly for a double play… It’s so perfect it’s illogical. Oh well.

    • Robinson Tilapia

I actually thought that was the most effortless double play in history as well. It shouldn’t even count.

  • Robinson Tilapia

I’ve made the point several times today that David Phelps has never pitched five innings in a major league start. I would love for tonight to be the night I’m ever able to say that again because of the big “W” next to his name at the end of the game.

    • Robinson Tilapia

      “never able”

  • DERP

Just put up a zero and then blow it open with Swish, Robbie, Mark, and Eric. That’s what I would do.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Hooray big word usage!

  • DERP

Dempster had a 2.25 ERA in the NL. Hard to believe. I’m pretty sure Ivan Nova would be the best pitcher in the NL.

    • CUYanks

      Look at AJ.

      • DERP

        Good point

    • Robinson Tilapia

I’m pretty sure that’s an actual Cashman trade partner talking point.

  • Erica

    C’mon you got this Phelpsie!

    • Erica

      Yay!

  • Robinson Tilapia

    One-pitch out. Cmon.

  • Robinson Tilapia

    Fuck yeah! Pitcher of record!

  • DERP

      Well, you should.

    heckuva start by Phelps

  • CUYanks

How do you think Joe maps out the final 4 innings?

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

Eppley for the next 3 batters, then mix/match Rapada, Joba, Logan to finish the 6th and 7th. Then DRob and Soriano (or Lowe if they can tack on some runs).

  • Ichy balls

Nice job phelps too bad cash will trade you this winter for justin upton.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Are you fucking kidding me? He was 92! He lived a full life.

Mention it! Don’t have it fill up the entire inning then show that fatass Schilling’s wistfully remembering him.

    Jesus.

    • Kramerica Industries

      Life always seems short.

Sometimes the actual idea of me being dead, thus not existing anymore, can spook the shit out of me. Like, everything I’m doing right now, I would never do anymore.

Just a permanent, motionless, decaying husk of a person. If I’m lucky, that day is still a good 50-60 years away

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

Nice job phelps, hope Lowe doesn’t blow this lead

    • DERP

      That’s the spirit.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

For the record, we’re at 16 sponsor mentions that I’ve caught since midway through the 1st on the radio. This is just during the game, before the commercial break.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

I think I perfected the drinking game on that one.
Every time it is just a straight up sponsor name drop it is one drink. Every time John tries to get cute with it, (i.e. XXXX is safe and secure at first base and you could be safe and secure with…) it is two drinks. 15th out 15 minutes or less Geico plug is worth 15. Don’t do that one with shots.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You would survive exactly .75 yankee games.

  • DERP

What are the chances that Phelps stays in the rotation when CC comes back? Give me a percentage if possible.

    • captain kiwi

zero. don’t really see who’s spot he’d take. nova’s maybe, but i just don’t see it happening.

  • G

Damn fine start by the kid. Couldn’t really ask for much more. He’s pitching on a limit against very likely the best lineup in the game. Got into expected trouble, helped himself out of it, and limited trouble from there on out to go a solid five. Just perfect. I’ve been a Phelps fan for a while, it used to e irrational but he seems to making some strides this year. Count me in the group that believes he can be a useful starter for a while.

    • Erica

      Very well said!

  • DERP

Why the hell is Lowe so red?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Phelpsy exceeded my expectations, when I said 5IP 2-4ER I wasn’t even taking into consideration he’d be on an 80 pitch limit. Considering he was limited to those 80 pitches what he did was damn fine.

  • OMG! Bagels!

Just got home. Tried to read the game thread before I put on the game but all I got was Miley Cyrus or Lindsay Lohan or someone got a haircut.

Am I in the right place?

    • jjyank

Miley Cyrus is now a man. Sorry Plouff. I’m on the Draco Malfoy train.

      • Erica

She kind of looks like Justin Bieber now.

        • OMG! Bagels!

These two things do not make sense. I thought she is a man. That means she does not look like Justin Bieber.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Well done Bagels. That was funny.

      • Betty Lizard

        Who? Meredith? :-)

    • jjyank

Pretty much sums it up. Phelps has pitched pretty well. The two runs he gave up were weak sauce runs (infield single, walk, broken bat blooper).

Just had to set the DVR to record “Sharkzilla” – Shark Week is the best week!

    • jjyank

It is, and I’m glad I’m not at the shore this time. Until I moved out, I used to always be down the shore with the family during Shark Week, and that was kind of awkward when you’re going to swim in the ocean the next day. Much more fun from a distance.

      • Erica

Yeeeeeah, I hear ya. It’s like, please let the biggest threat just be jellyfish.

Crappy pitchers still pitch crappily in small doses. Just like in bigger doses, some innings will be okay, others will be terrible. I think the key is really to pitch him in low leverage situations where we need to eat up innings.

  • G

2 fly balls, a swing and a miss, and no runs…

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH DEREK LOWE?!

  • Yankeefan

i think lowe will be great with the yankees a sinker ball pitcher coming out of the pen in long relief or can give us a couple of innings i really like the signing.

  • Erica

    ERIC EFFIN CHAVEZ

  • Cy Pettitte

    Chavez is the fucking best.

  • DERP

    That was a bomb.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Jesus, Chavez.

  • jjyank

    Chavez, you rock.

    ZOMBIECHEZ!!!!!

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Chavez is great.

  • captain kiwi

you can do no wrong chavez

  • Hummingbird S.

    wow…amazing stuff from Chavez!

  • Get Phelps Up

    Eric. Chavez.

  • flamingo

    Chavez has been so awesome.

  • DERP

I hope Chavez took Dempster out to dinner before fucking him.

    • jjyank

Nah. Breakfast the next morning is where it’s at. Much less awkward than the Walk of Shame.

      • Erica

I always felt like any kind of communication in the morning was terribly awkward because you’re usually hungover and disheveled.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I agree, unless I’m in a relationship with you, I really don’t want to see you the following morning.

          • Erica

            FOR THE LAST TIME, DE-FIP’d!

(I totally got what you meant.)

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

common, gimme a chance, I promise I wont call you Hermione often (doesn’t matter what you actually look like)

              • Erica

                Creeeeeeeepyyyyyy

              • jjyank

                Hahahaha

        • jjyank

That’s true, if it was only a legit one-night stand. But if it’s a “friends with benefits” situation, breakfast is the way to go.

  • Will The Thrill

I bet Dempster is regretting blocking that trade to the Braves right now.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

What’s the over/under on number of wins for Brandon Weeden this year ? ;)

    • JobaWockeeZ

      3.5

  • DERP

How much money did Dempster cost himself?

    • CUYanks

How many years of his career did he lose?

  • oldmanalex

why is this fool dempster still pitching, get that NL garbage out of here.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

    Sign Dempster!

  • CUYanks

Let’s have Lowe for a 4 inning save!

  • captain kiwi

    dereK lowe?

  • DERP

Every time I watch Chavez do something great I wonder what could have been if he hadn’t gotten injured.

  • CUYanks

It seems the Rangers are taking a lot of terrible Lowe pitches today.

  • oldmanalex

I got this feeling Derek Lowe is gonna be lights out the rest of the year. not to jinx it or anything …

    • 28 this year

      Kerry Wood 2.0

  • 28 this year

i say Lowe pitches the 8th and possibly even the 9th. At least the 8th, save the bullpen for tomorrow and Lowe isn’t throwing too many pitches and hes not someone you worry about breaking. If he breaks, tooss him

    • CUYanks

I say keep him in but remove him at first sign of trouble. He is a starter after all, so he can soak innings.

      • 28 this year

        yup

  • Erica

    NICE 1-2-3!

    • CUYanks

      It’s all Ryan Dempster does.

      • Erica

        He doesn’t even breathe.

        • CUYanks

          Never sleeps.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Who is this guy, and what has he done with the real Derek Lowe, and can we keep him?

  • Erica

I don’t want Texas to score again but I always love me a solid #untuck.

    • Laz

anytime they can give the bullpen a rest is fine, lowe was cheap to acquire.

  • flamingo

Sign me up for more of this Derek Lowe.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

That stuff is going to play up in the bullpen.
      #mediacliche’d

  • DERP

LOFL at the Rangers. They gave up prospects and spent a ton of money to sign Oswalt and trade for Dempster and Cashman got a better pitcher for like 150K.

    • 28 this year

Thats Cashman and the front office’s specialty. They find the right guys and say what you want, they tend to cut bait at the right time. They held onto Garcia which turned out to be really prudent. They cut guys when necessary but don’t make rash moves. I like it.

      • OMG! Bagels!

People, and by people I mean stuart, forget that Cash is a ninja.

      • jjyank

Yep. In terms of overall value, often times the scrap heap guys are better than the big name. And Cashman and Co. have been very good at that.

        • 28 this year

Yea and Cashman understands where to get the scrap guys and where to get the big name guys. He understands value isn’t everything because at the end of the day, the Yankees want the most wins even if it costs a lot but when value can be had in a lower position, i.e. bullpen, back end of the rotation and bench, he knows how to build them properly.

          • jjyank

Agreed. I think he’s done a very good job of balancing the MLB team with a good farm system for a big market team. $189 seems scary, but I am confident in the current leadership.

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I remember reading an interview with Eppler last year, and he said that when they look for scrap heap guys, they target players who used to be stars because they know what it takes to play at a high level. I dunno why, but I found that very interesting.

  • Erica

    ICHI

  • Karl Krawfid

Ichiro with patience man. I like it.

  • Get Phelps Up

Ichiro didn’t even run that hard and still got a triple.

  • DERP

That was nice of Beltre to tell Ichiro that he didn’t need to slide.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Ichiro is speed.

  • Hummingbird S.

When 2012 Ichiro is crushing a pitcher, you know that pitcher sucks

    • DERP

      This is awesome.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

  • OMG! Bagels!

I haven’t been home long watching this game but so far it is funtastic.

  • Erica

    JETERRRRRRR

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

All he does is pitch 1-2-3 innings guys. He’d be great in pinstripes.

    • CUYanks

      So far he’s got a 1-inning. He’s working on a 2-inning.

  • jjyank

    Captain, my Captain.

  • captain kiwi

exactly why i love ichiro hitting 9th

    • Betty Lizard

      I was thinking the same thing . . . .

OT but Ichiro is so . . . willowy.

  • oldmanalex

man i can’t believe this fool is still pitching. After this game, his ERA will look like Ivan Nova’s.

  • DERP

Dempster only knows 1-2-3 innings and breathing. I don’t even think he knows his name.

  • OMG! Bagels!

Dempster meet dumpster courtesy of Derek Jeter.

    • Erica

@TrippingOlney refers to “Dempster” as “DEMOPSTER”… heh.

      • Andruw’s Smile

On the trade deadline day, Heyman used “Demopster” instead of Dempster by accident. That’s the origin of that haha.

        • Erica

          OHHH.

That’s so great. So, so great.

          • Andruw’s Smile

TrippingOlney is my favorite parody twitter account (I usually hate them)

  • Erica

    This game is so awesome.

(Still have not risen from my chair.)

  • OMG! Bagels!

Teix is so serious about this quitting smoking stuff.

  • The Real Greg

Now you definitely leave Lowe in

    • Chilango

Still have him on a short leash though

    • 28 this year

Definitely, perfect time to save the bullpen.

  • your mom

Wow they left Dempster in, oh never mind it’s a lefty clone.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Bus time, goodnight guys, I’m gonna post the list of radio in-game commercials when I get home, probably after the game. it stands currently at 26 including the spot given to jeep at the end of every inning.

    • jjyank

      Peace, Plouffster.

    • flamingo

Ha, “at the end of four innings of play, it’s 4-2 Yanks, on the New York Yankees radio network, driiiiven by Jeep” – how sad that I can quote that.

      • Erica

        1-800-M-E-S-O-Law

        Sigh.

        • flamingo

That was the fifteenth out of the game, and Geico would like to remind you that fifteen minutes can save you fifteen percent on car insurance.

          And Bigelow Tea.

And the worst of all – painting the corner, sponsored by CertaPro or whatever.

          • Erica

            ALL OF THOSE.

And the Rallye moment of the game.

  • DERP

Thoughts on signing Dempster to a minor league deal this offseason?

    • Andruw’s Smile

Gonna be looking for/ probably get more than that. And no thank you.

  • OMG! Bagels!

Heard at Yankee Photo Day that Swisher was hugging fans and taking all kinds of photos and shaking hands and was the last one off the field. He’ll take that kid home and let him stay for a week or something.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Something tells me you would never get a word in edgewise with that guy.

      • jjyank

Something tells me what all the words that he says would be awesome. A week with Swish could be awesome.

        • Betty Lizard

I know some people spend a lot of time figuring out how to trade Nick Swisher or why to let him walk, but I love the guy. There’s a lot of yang on the team but he’s the ying.

I also remember that his first week with the Yankees the team was going on a bus somewhere and they bet Swisher he couldn’t keep quiet for 15 minutes. Swisher lost.

          • jjyank

I love the guy too. Maybe it’d my inner frat boy, but he seems like a guy I would get along with very well. He just loves life all day, every day.

            • Betty Lizard

Joie de vivre, jjyank, joie de vivre. Don’t lose yours when you go to work for you-know-who.

          • OldYanksFan

            Yin.

  • Erica

    Garbage time RBI.

  • Get Phelps Up

My fantasy team thanks you, Swish.

    • jjyank

Mine too. He’s my first baseman right now with Votto on the DL. I very much appreciate it.

  • jjyank

Okay, maybe that one was sort of garbage time :P Still awesome, though.

  • DERP

    This pitcher isn’t fooling anyone.

  • Rooting for U.S. Steel

Your John Sterling moment of the day: “The line on Dempster is complete. Eight runs in six innings. That computes to… an 11 run ERA.”

Um… not according to my elementary school math.

    Sigh…

    • Heisenberg’s Hat

      It’s 12, right?

  • DERP

Game 1 of the playoffs and we are facing a righty. Assuming A-Rod is back, who sits between Ichiro, Chavez, and Ibanez?

    • sangreal

I don’t want to see Ibanez fielding in a playoff game, so Chavez. Otherwise I would say use Ichiro as a pinch runner or something

      • jjyank

I would assume we’re talking about DH here. Ichiro would probably start in left, and the decision is Jones vs. Ibanez vs. Chavez. at DH. Ride the hot hand, whoever has been playing well at the time.

        • sangreal

          Yeah, that makes sense

    • your mom

      Who ever is cold sits.

  • Kramerica Industries

Always, Always, ALWAYS, say no to the Wave.

  • Get Phelps Up

If this score holds, the AL West will be 23-51 (.310 WP) all time at YS3. In comparison, the Astros this year have a .328 WP. I know this doesn’t really mean all that much, but it’s still pretty cool.

  • Tom

So Lowe stays in until 2 batters reach?

Would like to see him finish it out (and get the save!!!!)

    • your mom

I say let someone else pitch the 9th and save Lowe for another game this series in case they need a long reliever again. Just 30+ pitches so far.

  • your mom

Surprised it was Hamilton, not Andrus who got a dinky hit.

  • Arya

Nova and Hughes should be on watch. Not only is Phelps ready to take your job, Derek Lowe is too. Hopefully this well pitched ballgame by Phelps and Lowe will light a fire under our two young starters.

  • Tom

The ESPN guys are really talking up David Phelps.

  • your mom

    “That’ll do pig, that’ll do.”

  • Defensive Indifference

    Get Lowe!

    • your mom

Get Lowe wit it, get Lowe wit it, get Lowe wit it. . . . . .

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

    Derek Lowe: True Yankee (TM).

    (I just barfed writing that.)

  • DERP

Nothing would make me happier than to have Lowe do what he doing tonight in Fenway.

  • Tom

    The real drama:

If Lowe finishes it out does he untuck? (He’ll probably get a save)

  • Hummingbird S.

sad to see Granderson struggle like this… cant even hit straight fastballs nowadays

  • DERP

I hope that Orioles fans took a break from fapping to pictures of Manny Machado to catch part of the game.

  • Hummingbird S.

    Lowe for the save?

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Heh … and I was worried about Lowe pitching in this game.

    Nice job, Derek.

    Lowe’s first save since 2001.

  • The Real Greg

What a performance by Derek Lowe and David Phelps

  • jjyank

Atta boy Lowe. Way to pitch awesome and spare the bullpen. Nice pick up by the FO.

  • DERP

    Outstanding game.

BUT WHY DOES CASHMAN ONLY SIGN 38 YEAR OLD REJECTS?

  • your mom

Great job team. Props to Lowey.

  • JobaTheHeat62

    Derek Lowe…that is all

  • Thaaaaaaaayankeeswin

Alright who ever called that buy powerball tickets immediately

  • pat

Pretty sure Cash is still a dummyface.

  • Chilango

    Was that Lowe? For real?

  • Defensive Indifference

    Delightful game.

  • Ethan

Out of curiosity how come Lowe gets a save?

    • Get Phelps Up

If you pitch the last 3 innings of a game you get a save.

    • The Real Greg

It was a 3 run lead when he came into the game in the sixth.

    • CUYanks

If you pitch at least three innings and hold the lead, you get the save. As it turns out, he actually entered with a 3-run lead so he could have gotten it by pitching at least 1 inning and finishing the game.

  • Hummingbird S.

Lowe with 4 Ks and 0 BB in 4IP.. awesome.

  • DERP

Just saw that Steve Delabar struck out four guys in an inning. Mark Montgomery is not impressed.

  • Tom

Man outside of the HR, Phelps and Lowe pretty much throttled that lineup. They only had 3 or 4 good hits all game.

  • jjyank

Good game, and good game thread everyone. Have a good rest of the night all!

  • BK2ATL

While Phelps had a pretty good start and did more than anyone thought he could against this lineup, the real story here is Derek Lowe. Just wow!!!! Never thought he’d do that.

    Ninja Cashman still at it.

  • The Real Greg

Lowe being interviewed on MLB Tonight

  • Robinson Tilapia

What was that about Derek Lowe being an instant failure again? Great job by Phelps and Lowe tonight. One of my favorite victories of the year.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Question: Did Lowe untuck?

Also, I counted 23 instances of a sponsor being mentioned throughout the game, but I probably missed a couple while posting or helping customers, because I didn’t hear painting the corners or Bigalow Tea. Those 23 don’t include the ‘yankees baseball driven by Jeep’ every half inning. Including those it’s a total of 40.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Maybe I shouldn’t go testing this drinking game just yet…

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Like I said, you’d last about 3/4s of a game.

    • OMG! Bagels!

Do they do the Tri State Ford song? You can’t get that crap out of your head. I’d take 27 Jeep references if I could just get to the mute button before that comes on.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

yeah, but that’s an actual commercial. Commercial jingles are supposed to be like that. I was only counting sponsor mentions during the actual game.

        • OMG! Bagels!

Gotcha. I don’t normally have jingles stuck in my head but that TriState Ford one is lethal.

I hate the speaking of 15 minutes or 15 outs or whatever the hell with Geico and Sterling.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

“Last inning (fill in name and type of out made). That was the 15th out of the game, with that Giegco would like to remind you, a 15 minute call can save you 15% or more by switching to Geigco.

    • Heisenberg’s Hat

Did you get the 15th out of the game, and the rally moment? I think the “driven by Jeep” counts, even if it’s not breaking the action like the other ones.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yep, got the 15th out, and the rally moment was right before Suzuki’s bunt.

  • OMG! Bagels!

I like this Lowe guy. I’m going to forget that I had him mistaken for someone else.

  • Heisenberg’s Hat

This game was an awesome F-you to all the crazy bridge jumpers who’d already filled in the Loss column by the end of the 2nd inning when the score was 2-0 Texas.

  • vicki

could someone here please direct me to a website where i can discuss tv shows, people’s families, jobs, and the haircuts of celebrities? there’s way too much baseball talk up in this joint.
