Game 131: The Biggest Game of the Season*
ByYou know this as well as I: these next ten games are just enormous in the grand scheme of things. The division lead has been whittled down to just three, and wouldn’t you know it? The team chasing the Yankees is coming to town for exactly three games starting tonight. What a coincidence. These are the most meaningful games the Orioles have played in about 15 years (no joke), so you can expect them to come out playing hard. Hopefully the Yankees put this ugly stretch of play behind them during the off-day yesterday, because things are about to real interesting. Here’s the lineup…
SS Derek Jeter
1B Nick Swisher
2B Robinson Cano
CF Curtis Granderson
3B Eric Chavez
LF Raul Ibanez
C Russell Martin
RF Ichiro Suzuki
DH Jayson Nix
RHP Hiroki Kuroda
The weather in New York is great, so tonight’s game will start on time at 7:05pm ET. You can watch this one on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.
September Call-up News: Via Erik Boland, the Yankees are expected to recall C Frankie Cervelli, IF Eduardo Nunez, OF Chris Dickerson, RHP Cory Wade, RHP Adam Warren, and LHP Justin Thomas when rosters expand tomorrow. Didn’t expect that many guys on Day One, but hooray. Dickerson will require a 40-man roster move, but the rest are all good.
* At least until tomorrow.

It’s not even September and people are in a panic.
Whatever happens happens. If the Orioles are destined to win this year, so be it.
I really hate it when people call this “a collapse”. It’s not by definition.
The Yankees have been playing .500 ball since the All Star Break. That’s not exactly a record that screams collapse.
Instead more credit should be given to the Rays and O’s who have stepped up their play.
The Rays offense is showing its problems again…the Yanks have flaws of theirs they haven’t fixed since last year..but neither have the Rays.
If it were the Red Sox, would it be a collapse? I bet you’d say yes.
How much you want to bet?
As much as Obama took from hardworking taxpayers to give to the rich. In other words, ‘oodles’.
50 million dollars.
No you can’t argue against “collapse” on those grounds. If the Yanks have been playing ca .500 since the ASB and if the As and O’s stepped up their game to catch and pass them (i.e., if that’s what happens), it’s a collapse.
Unless there are mitigating circumstances.
Losing your ace to 2 stints on the dl, losing ARod and Pettitte for ca. 6 weeks each, losing Teixeira, losing Nova–all this when added to the losses of Rivera, Gardner, and Pineda do provide mitigation.
A “collapse” implies a quick and unexpected fall. If this fall does occur, it will not have been quick.
If the Yanks were 11-30 since the All Star Break, then I think it would be called a collapse.
It’s a collapse if another team “steps up their game” to catch and pass another? No. If a team steps it up and plays great ball (as the Orioles have all month) then you got caught. If the Yanks were to blow a 10 game lead in Sept. (a la Sox and Braves last year), THEN we’re talking collapse — a quick, unexpected fall when very little is left to be done to secure success. What we’re seeing now is the ebb and flow of a season that, unfortunately, isn’t favoring the Yankees right now.
.500 ball with a disgustingly large payroll is…uh, disgusting.
When is Casey McGeHee going to be up?
Charleston’s season ends Monday, so he should be back on Tuesday.
Nobody beats Hiroki Kuroda at Yankee Stadium. It is the biggest game of the season until tomorrow’s game. We must win the series. They really need Teixera back soon so they don’t have to keep DHing Peace and Nix.
“It is the biggest game of the season until tomorrow’s game.”
You should give credit when taking other people’s words.
I didn’t even read Mike’s asterisk. Sorry, Mike.
Please stop saying this. Kuroda is not a robot.
He might be, he is from Japan.

Nix at DH, Ibanez in LF and no Ichiro. Wonderful.
Ichiro’s in right.
Thanks, my mistake. Would rather not see Ibanez in the field. And Nix at DH just baffles me, especially when you consider how versatile he is in the field.
Buck will do anything to win. Just think about his motivation — a guy who built the Yankee team of the mid-90s, then was dumped just before they started winning. Hope Joe is up to the challenge. Buck always comes exceedingly well prepared.
What the F is that noise? Thought my tinnitus was getting worse. Bugs?
Kevin Goldstein took a job in Houston’s scouting department.
Interesting. They were trying to recruit Keith Law to join earlier this year, but he turned them down.
O’s have a great pen. They’re 57-0 when leading after 7. In 4 games in June and July, they were outscored 42-9. The Rangers beat them twice back in May for a by 27-6. This has skewed their run differential big time. And..their defense has been much better since the All-Star break so I hope the Yanks bring their A game tonight. They’re not practicing (and losing) in AAA anymore.
So their blowout wins don’t skew their run differential the other way? Interesting. I guess the A’s and Indians don’t mean losing to the O’s by the combined score of 20-3 in two games then.
Howdy, peeps! Just finished preparing my bolognese sauce and set it to simmer, and I’m ready for BASEBALL!!
When you say bolognese sauce do you mean just a meat sauce or a vodka-meat sauce?
Ground veal/pork/beef mix and tomato flavored with carrot/celery/onion/garlic sofrito, white wine, and milk, seasoned with salt/pepper/nutmeg/bay leaf. When it has coalesced into a thick sauce after at least two hours of simmering, I throw in the pasta with a little pasta water, and then finish it with grated parmigiano reggiano, butter, and chopped basil.
Damn dude. You go all out…how do you find time to cook like that? If I tried to do that I wouldn’t be eating till like 1am.
It took about one hour to get the sauce going, and now all that’s left is about five minutes of hands-on effort. And I am not very fast with the knife.
I hope this is not a sign of things to come.. awful first pitch, right down the pipe.
Dude..it’s literally one pitch. If we’re gonna start analyzing pitch to pitch the next month is going to be waaaaaaay to stressful.
Well, it’s a problem with Kuroda. He’s been terrible in the first inning all season long. But it looks like he’ll get by this time.
It was obviously intentional to set up the DP and save pitches.
Nice! Perfect pitch, perfectly turned DP.
No way. Pitch was up in Hardy’s wheelhouse.
but it was inside..
It was away enough so that he grounded it instead of driving it. It was up but it was away enough.
Since when is Nate Mclouth on the Fighting Showalters?
Since early August. .263 with 2 HRs and 9 RBIs since joining them.
Not terrible…I remember him being very good with the Braves, at least I think that was him? I thought he was traded to Pittsburg?
He was. He was then released and signed in June but he has been under the radar
Surprising he went that bad…like I said I remember him being very good with Atlanta.
That was a nasty pitch by Hiroki to get McClouth. Off to a great start.
Who was the outfielder we were talking last game thread about how the Yanks should get by today? I forgot.
Torii Hunter?
I remember Mike bringing up trying to get Hunter yesterday morning, which I said I would be interested in the previous night. I think somebody brought somebody else up though…
Yeah, Hunter. I guess we’re not getting him?
I’d be shocked if after signing Pujols and Wilson, then trading for Greinke, the Angels would give up just 3.5 games out of a playoff spot with a month to play.
Mike Trout?
Hey, why not? : -)
…and those three teams, the Pirates, Orioles and Royals, have been the three worst-run teams during those years.
Kuroda should be perfectly happy with that AB. Grounders are good.
But not that one.
That’s what happen when a sinker is about letter high.
Kuroda’s up in the zone. Needs to figure it out.
Awful.
A sac fly is awful?
No. Ibanez’ throw was awful. And Chavez not cutting it off was awful. And now that HR was awful.
It’s so pathetic that the Yankees are under so much pressure to win after having such a huge lead coming in after the ASB.
Ibanez is such a terrible fielder.. he has a weak arm, why not throw to second? fucking dumbass
yes.
Great job keeping the double play in order, Raul. Outfield defense clinic so far.
Shouldn’t he have just conceded the run and thrown to the infield to hold the man on first or get him at second?
Seriously, that was a sad little throw. Wtf, Ibanez.
horrible play by Ibanez. That ball should have just gone to second.
ENOUGH with the whining.
If they lose, so be it.
1
ENOUGH with the whining.
If people want to express their opinions about the game, so be it.
well..fuckballs.
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
Thanks Kuroda!
Hiroki doesn’t have it today. Everything’s up.
That’s strange, I heard repeatedly he was unbeatable.
He has been. Didn’t you hear Kay, sub 1 ERA in his past 5 home starts. Game ain’t over yet.
god this team is the fucking pits. seriously unwatchable.
Bad, Kuroda, bad.
Mark Reynolds? Really?
staff ace, huh?
one game, huh?
Try to stop being a moron please.
atta boy Hiroki.. biggest game of the season, worst game for him. Great time to choke.
Fastball in to Mark Reynolds.
Laughable shit man.
We did say last time he was due for a stinker when he gave up three…then he settled down for the rest of the game. Hopefully the same thing happens here…
/really trying to be optimistic
it probably wont matter.. the offense sucks, they will not score more than 3 runs.
Miguel Gonzalez is on the mound.
Enough of the injury excuse, it’s time for the offense to step up. They should be able to put up 4-5 runs on this guy.
(Meant as a reason to be optimistic)
Boom! Day of, same Yankees, same results. Awesome.
Kuroda will settle down. Four runs is doable…
Hooray! I’m not the only one trying to be an optimist.
Wow. This team will be lucky if they make the playoffs. Except for that stretch when they played shitty National League teams they have been fucking horrible. The offense has shitty, especially the middle of the order and the pitching besides Kuroda has also been horrible.
I don’t care.
Already the mood around here has made this completely unbearable. Thanks guys for making this a pleasant experience.
want a band-aid for your feelings?
You’re welcome.
And you’re making it quite unpleasant yourself, btw.
Yeah, if you can’t handle watching a game down 3 runs with 8 innings to go and Miguel Gonzalez pitching against you, you really can’t handle baseball.
You are blaming RAB game thread posters for your emotional state in the face of a 3-0 deficit?
This place has been slipping int LoHud territory for a couple months now dude, but honestly you’re trying to bully people for expressing their opinions, when for all of last season and the first half of this season you were exactly like them is NOT helping things at all.
I learned that this means nothing in life and I am trying not to let these people send me into a downward spiral.
3
You had to “learn” that being a Yankees fan is just an amusing pastime and something meaningless to emotionally invest in playfully for fun?
Not that I’m accusing you but if you weren’t on the 162-0 train you’ll get torched, blasted, shot, spat and degraded on.
Say something bad about Girardi, you’re an idiot. If Phil Hughe isn’t considered to be a very good pitcher you’re an idiot and so on and so forth.
I’m usually very supportive of the team, but I’ve called out Girardi a bunch of times personally (especially the games he continued going to Wade when it was clear Wade was DONE to anybody with eyes) as for Hughes, I’m sorry but it is kind of stupid to call out a dude who has been very, very good for 4 months. I understand his HR/9 rate is unsightly but he’s been good in spite of it.
2
Jerry Nelson just died, you insensitive bastard.
Time to accelerate the ethanol intake.
Wow. Machado is one ugly mother fucker. Like he looks straight out of a 1970s bad porn in his picture.
Let’s just score here. This pitcher sucks.
Still more optimistic about the short term being of this team than long term. They’ll probably make the playoffs and from there it’s luck.
Long term they need some help. So I’m int he camp of not giving a fuck until October.
Unfortunately, you’re right.
Let’s see some patience at the plate. Hope they don’t come out hacking.
The offense doesn’t have a track record of giving Hiroki run support. Maybe tonight will be the exception. It would be nice if Granderson and Ibanez could break out. I don’t think we’ve hit a HR in over 2 games.
Playoffs are far from a sure thing for this team.
Yes it is but there’s no moves that will or can be made in order to fix it.
Other than getting healthy all you have to do is hope they play like they’re supposed to.
Yeah, it’s only a 98.5% probability. Far from a sure thing…I wish were the Orioles or Rays Who are at 22.7% and 50.7% respectively.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/
It’s all about the assumptions of future win percentage.
They will just go down in order..like this offense always does.
Holy fuck Chavez, what was that?
This guy throws a change up.
This game may be over.
This is a pretty big game. Easily the best matchup that we have.
huge strikezone, but only the O’s pitcher is taking advantage.
JJ Hardy is legit awful. Not sure why he bats second.
Hopefully the 2nd turns out to be the only bad inning for Kuroda, and the Yankees can then figure out how to hit the change. Hope and change, with better results than the last four years.
They won the WS 4 years ago. What better can they do?
Three years ago!
I see a team in the O’s which is very loose and confident. They have the right attitude. Them against all odds and a manager who knows how to motivate players. Dangerous combination.
Schowalter really had them motivated last year…. when they went 69-93. Apparently he just didn’t care last year or took an offseason course in how to motivate players
It’s amazing how the frequency of “changing the culture” and “motivates the player” comments increases when a team wins and evaporates when they lose.
(see Gibson, Kirk)
There are a number of huge Yankee players expected to come back from injuries soon: A-Rod, Teix, Gardner (is he?), Pettitte, Nova (ok, maybe not huge).
I think they said Gardner is done for the season.
Tx.
Starting to think it may be too little too late… I hope they can shamble to the finish line in first… but it has been painful to watch for some time… hard to be optimistic…
Guy next to Costner has a really bad haircut. The fact that I’m commenting on that means I am trying to block out the game.
And Mark Reynolds? He may be the worst fielder in the game.
Holy crap! What a fucking play!
Our defense is playing terribly and Mark Reynolds just made a great play. Really.
Sign four out of the seven signs.
they play better D, they pitch better and they hit better..
I really can’t wait until Ichiro is gone. What a waste of D.J. Mitchell.
And even the leader is going overboard.
Was reading the chat transcript before the start of the game and Mike did warn it was not a good day and he was going to be grumpy.
I may challenge him for grumpy as my day has also sucked, and the Yankees are not helping at the second.
I said this at the time of the trade, and everybody called me crazy. I don’t think Ichiro has been completely useless, BUT I don’t think his defensive value for this season equals 6 years of team control on a young, possibly effective pitcher.
I don’t even think D.J. Mitchell is all that good, but the difference between this Ichiro and Wise or Dickerson is basically zero. Chased the big name and got burned.
Risk/reward. Not a ton of downside. You’re probably kidding yourself if you’re expecting production from Wise/Dickerson. They are pretty terrible.
So is Ichiro, has been for about 1300 PA.
No doubt about that, but there had to have been more upside in a player who was moving out of Safeco and had shown some level of production in the past vs. players who are certifiably hopeless. Unless DJ Mitchell turns into a good major league pitcher, there really wasn’t the opportunity of getting burned there.
I was perfectly ok with Dewayne Wise. I don’t know why Cash wanted Ichiro. It isn’t like he was lighting it up at the plate with Seattle. He’s at the end. Did we really need another veteran in decline on this team? John Jaso, now there’s a Mariner that could’ve helped this team.
The Yankees will probably sign him to replace Swisher.
I’m not sure I could continue watching if I have to watch old Ichiro for a full season. It was painful enough when Jeter went on his walk about from June ’10 to June ’11, but Jeter is the Yankees. Ichiro is a visitor.
Now this is ridiculous.
Awful 3rd strike call. Ump sat there for 5 seconds before calling is a strike.
I’m expect Orioles-supportive umps all weekend. We got in my book, one of the worst crews in the bigs.
nice of ichiro to watch that straight FB catch the plate for strike three.
No hitter lets lose like old mofos
The Orioles PBP guy is Ichiro like it is spelled Itchiro. It is really funny.
Wow. The more I think about it, the more I realize how great of a deal the Granderson trade was for the Tigers. They gave up Grandy a great but flawed player and Edwin Jackson, an inconsistent but serviceable pitcher for Austin Jackson a gold glove caliber centerfielder who can hit despite striking out a lot and Max Scherzer, who is becoming Verlander 2.0. Meanwhile Granderson is struggling to hit a fastball down the middle. Sigh. Cashman sure does make some shitty trades. I wish he would believe in our farmhands (Montero, Jackson) instead of trading them away.
Jeter
Austin Jackson
Cano
Tex
Arod
Swisher
Montero
Romine
Gardner
Sure looks better than the lineup we’ll be throwing out there next year. Less expensive too.
I too have thought that Scherzer reminds me of Verlander.
He might even be a bit better.
Bottom line:
Yankees have 27 titles, the Orioles have 3.
Yankees are probably not going to win this year. They’re too banged up. I would be surprised if they won it.
I was surprised they won it in 2009.
Accept this, guys and move on.
4
Immature bastard.
Just defecting away the points.
5
If you were making a point other than your incessant
Stop whining / move on / accept it / doesn’t matter maybe I’d listen.
Then again it’s probably best you stay away from statistics…
My right ear was poking out of my cap today, and it got sunburned. It is all red and hot feeling.
9 batters up, 1 hard hit ball. At least 3 popups.. amazing job.
bye playoffs
bye yankees… see you next year , maybe.
so how much nonsense has to happen before theres a team meeting and chairs are thrown. or does that shit only happen after we drop out of first place?
Seriously the fight this team is putting, fucking awesome. Those bats must be really heavy
It is amazing to me that fans think that the problem with this team is that they don’t care or aren’t trying and that a meeting will fix things.
I like how they want to blow the whole thing up when the Yanks will still be in 1st even if they lose tonight.
That is the biggest most absurd fallacy that gets bandied about here.
Who cares about last season?
fired brian cashman and blow this team up
With the new wild-card system, at some point a manager has to begin to think about arranging the pitching rotation so that the ace is available for the one-game playoff. That could be interesting for a team that is still vying for the division win.
From Jack Curry – Orioles have lost by scores of 19-7, 13-1, 14-3, 12-3, 10-1. In 5 games, outscored by 51. So, in other 125 gms, have outscored opp overall….
You mean if you remove games in which the Orioles got blown out, their run differential improves? No way!
Jack’s great, but you can’t just cherry-pick and remove the games that don’t fit the narrative. What happens if you remove all of their blowout wins? Or remove every team’s blowout losses?
Another thing Orioles fans do is remove their games against the Rangers (and Angels) and try to pass that off as their true run differential.
Not sure why they’re bothering. Their record is their record. Their strength has been a shutdown bullpen late in the game and, well, and, for some reason they keep winning any one-run game. The pen is certainly part of it, then again, the Yankees late inning pen of Robertson and Soriano should also allows them to win one-run games. The Yankees have been horrible in that area.
It’s the 1960 World Series. Yankees blew out Pittsburgh 3 times. Pirates won 4 tight games.
Who but Yankee fans now cares about the 3 blow-outs?
Yeah, that analysis makes no sense at all. No matter how you look at it, they’ve been lucky.
battling ab’s from the yanks. they must be tired from there 36 hours off….
really working jim palmer tonight… poor russell martin. the guy hits the ball hard once in a blue moon and he got out.. losing to this team yech. know michael with the ridiculous excuses….
ichiro stinks, he is a brett gardner who takes a lot less pitches…..
chavez took a strike right down the middle… does cano get 1/2 an rbi for hitting itto the warning track? I assume boras will look for some interesting ways ofselling Cano’ massive underperform……
Yippee!
Stuey is here!
Just got home.
See it’s 3-0, and the Yankees have no hits so far.
You gotta be fucking kidding me.
lets try and be optimistic its still early in the game. its been painful lately but we should have arod and tex back shortly. random question would you rather have girardi mattingly or buck managing the team
This team is so old. I hope 2013 isn’t a Phillies 2012 year for the Yankees.
Seriously, the lack of run support Kuroda gets, Yankees should compensate him with an extra $10 million.
They should give him an extra $9 million and the fans free beer.
Kuroda has settled down, time for the offense to do something.
It would be nice to see Kuroda win a game where he allows more than 2ER (he hasn’t yet)
I can’t wait until next year when the Orioles go back to being terrible.
HOF Moises Sierra
Not going to lie…I was getting a tick nervous.
Just do a quick shot of something. It will pass. And if it doesn’t, do another!
I wish =/ I’m at work…I might stop on the way home at the local liquor store, see if they have Ocktoberfest yet, cause Dunkin Donuts has their Pumpkin Coffee back.
Pumpkin Coffee, good; Pumpkin beer, bad!
Really? I enjoy Pumpkin beer. Not as much as Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin anything really…Sam Adams Ocktoberfest is my favorite thing about fall though.
I love basically everything pumpkin, but I just can’t get into pumpkin beer. I’ve tried it a few times, and my guess is over the coming month I will see it somewhere and try it again.
In the meantime, I’m now craving a pumpkin coffee, and there’s a DD Ranch real close. I’m tempted considering how the game is going.
BASEHIT!!! CANT BELIEVE!!
Wow. I’m so surprised that wasn’t caught. Fucking BABIP. Fucking shifts.
Jeter might be the only Yankee worth a shit right now.
He SHOULD be the MVP
He’s not even the MVP of his own infield.
Disagree. There is not one infielder on the Yankees who deserves it more than Jeter. Cano – he is not doing anything special. Certainly not ARod. Tex, remove his defense and he is to hitting what Giambi is to defense. Chavez, the only thing he gets is an ICY HOT commercial. Nix, thank you for being on the bench.
Even including the outfield. Swisher would be the only serious contender and that is if you shorten the sample size.
Cano has been better offensively and much, much better defensively than Jeter.
Jeter: .321/.363/.448
Cano: .307/.371/.547
Robinson “not doing anything special” Cano also isn’t an embarrassment on defense.
If you’re going to push him for MVP, then you have to look at Jeter’s entire game, and yeah, his defense remains below average, and by some statistical measures seems worse this year than recent years. I don’t put too much emphasis on that part as partial, or even full-season defensive stats don’t say a lot, an the Yankees shifts may be causing some issues there too, but it doesn’t matter if Jeter is the same, worse, or even slightly better. He’s still below average on that side of the equation, while Cano is a net positive.
That all said, Jeter’s having a hell of a year and will get votes and should get votes. He’s just not the league MVP or even his team’s MVP.
swing through the changeup, watch the FB down the middle..great strategy there Swish
That production will cost you $18 million a year.
If you are a pitcher and the best thing the broadcasters can say about you is that you know how to pitch or have great mound presence, is that really a complement?
Swisher is a master of taking hittable pitches and swinging at shit in the dirt.
I’m surprised Thrum isn’t in the Hall.
Swisher Ks way to much for the 2 hole.
They should bat Ichiro there, he never strikes out. Wouldn’t want one of the teams best on-base guys to hit second. He should hit fifth so Russell Martin can drive him in.
you are wrong. We definately want Swisher in the 2-hole. We only have 3 good hitters in Jeter, Swisher and Cano. They should bat in the 3 first spots in the lineup.
Lovely AB, Robbie.
Three pitches. K.
It’s OK Robbie. One of those pitches was almost a strike.
Those were some really awful at-bats. Yikes
This team is just trash at the moment.
these guys have quit
Yep. Paycheck collectors.
I’m sure the owners hate that.
What does this even mean? You think they literally aren’t trying to get hits?
Who the hell is this pitcher? I don’t remember Roy Halladay being traded to the Orioles!
Swisher and Cano both tried to hit a 3 run homerun with one man on base. Result…strikeout.
There is your 10 yr 23 million hitter.
Dear yanks, please stand up and fucking fight already!
They have about two innings until they have to face the Orioles bullpen. Make them count.
they are not going to score more than 3 runs.. their only hope was to have Kuroda pitch an excellent game, but he choked.
there’s nothing special about this Gonzalez guy. The Yankees are the only team that can make this guy look good.
Also the Red Sox, Rays, Royals, and Angels
fucking pathetic. just hacking at everything like they have somewhere else to be.
Yankees are aleeping not even the organ can wake them tonight.
This is hard to watch. Seriously. The only thing more disgusting than this is their payroll.
getting manhandled
Kevin Long seriously needs to be fired. This team is trying to hit a homerun every at bat. Hit the ball where it’s pitched!
Why is it his fault? He’s not the one swinging the bat.
Cervelli and dickerson, nunie should wake them up tomorrow.
I didn’t realize how bad Carlos Pena and Luke Scott have been this year. Two rare misses by the Rays.
This has a feeling of Hiroki’s last start, gives up 3 early, settles down and the offense doesn’t score a lick for him. These guys used to hit HRs. When’s the last time they hit a HR, Tuesday?
stop me when this sounds familiar: Kuroda gives up 3 early runs, settles down and doesn’t give up anything more. Pathetic offense does nothing.
Kuroda must feel like he never left the Dodgers, with the non-run support he gets.
Unfortunately it’s now four, but yeah, the point is valid.
Kuroda 56 pitches thru 5 innings. He’s made one mistake. The yanks should be able to muster some offense to back him, 3 runs is nothing in the American league
He keeps getting ahead 0-1, 0-2 and then it’s all over with the changeup. Stop taking the 1st pitch and start attacking!
7 K’s through 5 innings for Gonzalez. He averages 6.7 per 9 innings.
The troubling thing is the inability to hit a 91-93mph fastball. It’s one thing to get beat by a change or curve when you are behind in the count, but the Yankees can’t even seem to touch this guy’s average at best fastball.
Did people actually say that we didn’t need A-Rod?
Aren’t there enough hitters in the line up either flailing at pitches out of the zone or watching 3rd strikes?
Chavez has looked like shit lately, tired of hearing about his blazing August
… it’s still August.
Yankees are definitely hitting higher pop ups than the Orioles. So that is good.
This is revolting.
This is horible the team needs a spark kuroda should throw at the next guy.
He should throw at his teammates.
Hanging breaking balls. Fastballs up and in the middle of the plate.
Take those pitches and swing at the change ups down in the zone.
ugly
It would be nice to have some LH hitters who could go the other way. Maybe then the BaBIP wouldn’t be so skewed.
every starter possible should be benched tomorrow. they don’t deserve to play. just let the kids like Nunie have fun.
I guess the lesson to be learned here is that you don’t disrespect Flanny.
I look forward to cervelli after watching martin look like a minor leaguer up there.
You might be in for a disappointment. Cervelli has been looking like a minor leaguer against actual minor league pitchers.
Cervelli has hit .246/.341/.316 at SWB. I wouldn’t expect much.
It’s apparent that once he’s up 0-2 he pitches a throw away pitch then goes with the changeup for the strikeout. ADJUST!
Can’t wait to hear the post game glad handing on this one. Joe is in the clubhouse now researching great one liners.
sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the greats like Pedro Martinez, Felix Hernandez and Miguel Gonzalez
That made me laugh. Well done.
Hey it’s baseball. These things are going to happen. Put it behind you and take care of business tomorrow. Etc.
OMG! That was funny. Yankees have been saying that since the All Star break.
This kid is throwing average stuff and making the Yanks look lost with weak swings on pitches out of the zone. This is the kind of young mediocre pitcher that the yanks and The Bronx use to eat alive.
Matt Wieters knows our hitters like the back of his hand.
Jesus.
It’s 8:20, and already the 6th inning.
ugh
I would have lost my shit if Cano didn’t get that.
At least if they lose, theyll get it done in two hours, no reason to watch this any longer than that.
Things I don’t like: That!
HR to the .270 OBP, because why not.
Eighteen dingers this year. He doesn’t suck at hitting homers.
Lovely.
Stellar performance tonight, Yankees. It’s nice to know that, just like the Red Sox, the Yankees can’t beat the Orioles in their home ballpark.
they couldnt beat the Jays triple-A team
Kuroda fits well with the rest of the overpaid chokers on this team.
seriously?
He’s been awesome all year, he has one bad start and he’s suddenly an overpaid choker?
Man fuck this.
Kuroda just gave up a home run to one of the worst everyday players in baseball.
Well Hardy got a cookie his 1st AB and missed it so I guess he was looking for it this time.
Why can’t one of our guys hit a HR? Without that brilliant performance on Wed by Phil in a 2-1 win we’d be in a world of hurt.
What was your handle before the current one?
Despite
Justin VerlanderMiguel Gonzalez on the mound, I think it will take 5 runs to win this game (for either team)If people think this is bad I mean unless Kuroda is back Pineda is the de facto second starter next year.
Long term looks bleak compared to this.
The Yankees are allowed to replace Kuroda with someone else if he leaves.
This team sucks, pure and simple. And they don’t care. Blow this team up and start fresh.
Tomorrows line up
Jeter ss
Dickerson rf
Cano 2b
Granderson cf
Chavez dh
Nunie 3b
Swisher 1b
Ichiro lf
Cervelli c
this is assuming they even show up to the park tomorrow. actually, they’re probably better off just not showing up.
against a lefty? No chance.
This team can go fuck itself. The offense has been dead. They all seem like they have somewhere better to be.
Cashman..we gave up Jackson and Montero for whom? Pieces of crap that strike out and can’t pitch.
Jesus Montero really would help this team, IMO!
True story Montero was cut from the Jets practice squad
-Greg Buttle
There you go, ATTACK and don’t let him get ahead 0-2.
Alright boys, this is the inning to show you got some fight in you. let’s go!
Not giving up hope though.
This shitty Yankee team needs this win.
People are really overreacting. Just remember that when an offense isnt hitting, the team looks lifeless. It doesnt mean that the team is actually lifeless or not trying. Go find something better to complain about
You must be new here.
Nope. I just get tired of whining. Its highly likely that the Yankees will be killing the ball in a week or two
I agree. You should post more.
That’s the first three-ball count, and first walk tonight.
please no DP (it will probably happen)
2 on no outs. Let’s go keep the line moving.
giving him 2 borderline pitches in a row after a walk is so lame.
nice of the ump to put Jeter in a hole..
um these look like old tired men , can we bring george back to life ?
So you could see a team full of even older, more tired men?
Does Jeter have a mouthpiece? retainer?
My least favorite part of this game: I’m pretty sure that Nix’s walk was the first 3ball count of the game.
Jeter is restoring my faith in the teams’ ability to have a good AB
Captain battling!
Lucky that wasn’t a total buzzkill right there.
Good?
Yeaaaah! Groundout!!!!
Swisher please do something
C’mon, Swish!!!!!!
here comes the lame AB with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs
time to swing through a changeup in the dirt!
Atta boy swish, keep swinging for the fence…
Anyone know why mcgeehee got demoted all the way to low A ball? Did he take a dump on cashmans desk?
Season ends earlier than the other affiliates
So who cares about low a ball. He can come up tomorrow but isnt ..why charlston needed a big league hitter?
He can’t come up tomorrow. He has to wait 10 days since he was demoted. Or he can come back up if his minor league team’s season ends before that, which is why he was sent to Charleston, so he could be recalled sooner.
Swish will strike out now.
High fastballs.. change in the dirt coming
Took till the 3rd time through, but we’re actually putting some ABs together finally.
So then Robbie Swings at the first pitch…Ugh. Not a good night.
Oriols ready to implode here, any kind of pressure and they will crack
Are you drinking?
Hey look its playoff swisher.
Nice to see Nick still swinging for the fences when a home run doesn’t completely erase the deficit.
ugh
God swisher sucks
#letSwishwalk
Swisher Ks agaain. He’s back to his old numbers. Too bad. He had a few good weeks. Take him out of the fucking 2 hole.
You see the rest of the lineup right?
Who the hell should bat second?
Should I draw a parallel to a pressure filled game bringing out the real Swisher?
Nah…..too soon
yeah, cause all the other big hits he’s had this year don’t count
double ugh
oh my fuckign god
Unreal.
This team is fuckin’ toast.
#letCanowalk
Yankees don’t deserve to make the playoffs.
No excuses. Those top 3 hitters need to hit with all the injuries and they just aren’t.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL Right on queue.. Based on that AB 5 yrs 22 mill a year.
Yankee tease
Swisher has been carrying the team the past 3 weeks. The others need to pick him up this game. He’s allowed an off game.
Nice at bat robbie 100 million my ass
Anything good on TV tonight?
It’s happened all season. Seriously, why is anyone surprised?
Cano! Come The fuck on!!!
This line up sucks. I hope the next time people complain about Tex and ARod not hitting a homerun or something in one AB. They remember this fucking shithole of a line up.
lol
This is such a joke. Are we batting against Gonzalez or Cy Young……
Hey maybe Swish can get the sombrero tonight. These guys can’t hit for avg. And now that the HRs are not coming, they’re fucked. Wakeup call for the front office.
as i have stated 100 times cano is a overatted sack of you know what. 70 rbi’s morons. the guy is terrible with RISP, he has hero complex and no plate discipline..
this team sucks.. ibanez threw the ball earlier on the play at the plate like jacoby ellsbury or johhn damon..
swisher has been horrible with RISP for years.. this is not a new phenomenon….old, slow, choke artists………..
F-ck…….
….. whats the record for periods in a post….. whoever has the most should get a parade and a contract extension…..
Swisher with RISP: .300/.406/.591
Damnit Mike, numbers aren’t allowed! You know that! Only emotion and hatred! and RBIs.
I was convinced it would take at least 5 runs to win this game, but after that half inning, 4 might be enough.
2 runners on for your 3 best hitters should net at least a run. If nothing else at this point, they need to force the O’s to use their best bullpen arms which could help later in the series.
And with that, I’m going to spare myself, and the rest of you, my undying fury tonight.
I piss myself off enough as it is with my daily actions. I’m not going to further that by subjecting myself to a team that has played like shit for weeks and still continues to play like shit when the overachievers come to town for the biggest series of the season.
This likely loss will be the Orioles fifth win in New York this season, giving them the season series victory for games played in New York, with two left to spare. The Yankees will fall to 13-12 at home against divisional opponents.
Yeah, that’s really protecting the home field advantage.
Unreal. Fuck this. I’ll be back tomorrow to further piss myself the hell off watching this lifeless team.
I hope Kevin Long does that drill where he bashes Cano over the head with the bat repeatedly after this game.
cano not only gets out he has horrible ab’s..
the guy has a hero complex he thinks he is a stud… he is a joke, overrated sweet swinging guy.
he is agood player but not even close to elite.. not close……get me 120 rbi’s on occassion and that is elite…he is getting 85 this year. 85 rbi’s , friggin joke…….
Is cano your new arod?
Just wait til Arod gets back
Guys like Swisher will never knock in a 100 runs. Choke job.
swishy is a 85 rbi guy. don’t forget rbi’s are irrelevant just ask the sabermetricians.
way to completely misunderstand the argument…..
It’s stuart. He doesn’t read anything.
Knocking in runs when it counts is overrated. as long as you have a high OPS, WAR, OBP, etc, it doesn’t matter if you win games. Then you’re worshipped on this website.
Another one who completely misrepresents the argument. Nice.
Can’t argue against the merits, so make shit up to argue against.
These people obviously skipped their statistics class in college.
Gift Basket sounds like spillover from the MoMass crowd.
Damn this was probably the most winnable game of the series too.
Not saying they’re going to come back and win, but this game ain’t over yet.
Fans who give up this quickly don’t deserve a winner.
Those of who who aren’t jumping off the deep end, I salute you. The rest of you? What the hell. This is pretty pathetic.
Most of them, like me, only know high powered incredible juggernaut teams who should at least make the playoffs handidly, and win the World Series. Because we were taught as children that winning the World Series is apparently easy because it was won 4-6 and made it to 5-6.
And we thought losing 4 straight to Oakland was rock bottom. Wait til this sweep.
Predicting the future i see.
Its coming.. then another sweep in Tampa.
I recognize, rationally, that this does not necessarily mean the end of the Yankees season — Baltimore and Tampa can still lose plenty of games too, they’ll get guys back from injury, Granderson and Cano should get out of their funk eventually, etc. Still — can anybody deny that the last month or so of Yankees baseball has been really depressing to watch? And not just depressing, but often just boring. The offense just looks so bored and impotent. I miss this long-ago days of June when it seemed like a trip through the order meant at least one of Jeter/Granderson/Cano/Tex/Swisher was guaranteed to do something good and Ibanez/Chavez/Jones might actually follow up with something good too.
Funny you mention June. They were 20-7 that month. They are a .500 team the rest of the season (4 months).
If you take away every team’s best month, they’re .500 as well.
On average, the league plays .500 ball. Mediocre stuff, not the sort of baseball that will get you to the playoffs. It makes me embarrassed to be a fan of Major League Baseball.
Or maybe the fundamental flaws are starting to show. Doesn’t look good going forward.
Flaws are showing when our middle of the line up players and 2 starters are on the DL? You don’t say.
That’s totally possible too. I’m just saying that even if we grant the “It’s all going to be okay” argument, these baseball games are not enjoyable to watch. I mean…Nix, DH.
Kuroda now with the 3rd worst run support in the AL (“behind” only Millwood and Hellickson).
Not sure if he will overtake Millwood in his game, but score the guy some runs. Would like to see the guy come back next year.
i am not giving up i never would i am just stating how unlikeable and underachieving this team is.
grandy is hitting 238, cano is on pace for 85 rbi’s or less. tex when healthy is not the hitter he should be, and on and on.
jeter is there best player and the guy is a 38 year old SS on the downside of his career……
i expect a guy like cano even if he does not get a hit to have a tough ab… that is not a 1 pitch pop out to 3rd with 2 men on base….
there porblem is the offense there pitching is the best it has been in years not that is saying much… home run or die, the yankee motto….
When healthy the Offense is actually as good it was in the last two year. too bad no one can stay fucking healthy.
Granderson, Chavez, Ibanez… I see some runs!
(trying to be optimistic)
I’ve been watching but just checked in the on the thread. Can someone spare me having to read through the comments and tell me just how bad it is around here?
The trolls are annoying. Take Stuart above with a post about 85 RBIs and some sabermetrician nonsense. They’ll say something and never respond to anyone refuting their ridiculous claims.
It saddens me that people are either 1: So bored on a Friday night they troll a Yankees blog to get their jollies or 2: people actually think like this.
I don’t know what one’s worse.
Put down the bong and pay attention to the game. This team, as presently constituted, sucks ass.
“As presently constituted” is your key phrase there. What do you expect when half the lineup constitutes platoon hitters + the black hole that is the catcher’s position?
The team developed its lead from good pitching and a productive offense. The key was the role players stepping up when asked. However, one can’t reasonably expect these role players to step in to starting roles for a lengthy period of time due to injuries and succeed. The best we could hope for is to ride out the wave and let our players get healthy. We hope they get their groove back in September and have all hands on deck in time for the playoffs. Currently, the team looks worn out.
Granderson is unfathomably bad.
I hate to say it, but they have to shop him in the offseason.
Of course, I don’t know how much value a low-average, high-strikeout hitter on a one-year deal would have…
Don’t forget awful defender.
In fairness he still walks a lot.
He’s become a TTO (three true outcome) player – not quite to the level of Dunn but that’s what he is.
The Yankees need to stop playing him shallow if they are going to continue with him in CF next year. He is really weak going back on the ball (especially toward right center)
He’s also experiencing the lowest BABIP for his career. Despite having the highest line drive rate of his career
He’s been terrible since June hasn’t he?
yea but it seems like he’s getting worse, if that’s possible. his ABs are so bad.
He’s striking out less in the past few games at least?
This thread is hilarious.
The Orioles offense is really bad. There rotation is not that great either. I have no idea how they have had so much success against us in the Stadium this year.
Keep faith guys, we’re 3 bloops, 2 walks, 3 errors, and an inside the park HR away from tying this ballgame.
you know things are bad when you’re hoping for an Ichiro HR to get you back in the game.
COme on Ichiro… remember the narrative about you being able to hit HR’s whenever you want? Now would be the time.
…or you can ground out.
Things not looking good tonight.
Ichilol
This team just needs a day off
Oh yeah they were just off yesterday.
Nunez will save us tomorrow.
They’re bringing up an infielder who can’t field, and a catcher who can’t hit. I don’t know what Wade has done, but I hope he’s been able to pitch.
Nunez tommorrow
4-4 2b hr (inside the park) 3b bunt base hit
I’ve stopped freaking out by now. There’s nothing to it anymore. Right now, we have a bad team. This isn’t pessimism. I’m not even more than mildly upset anymore. It’s just true. This isn’t a good team.
Hopefully A-Rod, Andy, and Tex can help. But before we get them there’s nothing else we can really hope for except to have a streak where we play over our heads for a bit.
But, we will be playing over our heads. Because we’re not a good team.
Do you honestly look at the Orioles team and say, “Hey, that is a better team than the Yankees”?
Not really. i think they’re playing way over their head too, they’re just luckier.
The team that was so-so before the surge to that big lead and the present team may well be more the truth of the 2012 Yankees than the team that surged.
Only if you think our true team involves no ARod or Teix, two of our top hitters.
Actually, were they not around back then?
Uhh Pretty sure Arod and Tex were there in June and half of july
So you’re cherry picking the worst stretch of the season and the current injury-riddled section of the season?
I’m talking to TomH. Yankees played their best in june to mid July when Tex and Arod were playing. Obviously they are playing like shit now with them on the DL. I mean Jason Nix is our friggin DH.
Really? The Surge team with a Healthy Arod and Tex and a full rotation? So right now playing with half a AAA team is more telling?
Oh, I agree with you. I’m speaking of the team as currently assembled.
Yea i agree with you, not TomH where he’s comparing this team to the one that was healthy and everyone playing well. I mean even before the Surge the team wasn’t this bad.
No, this is a good team. Not a great team. If this was the team that started spring training I’d expect 85-88 wins, which is too me a good team.
Meh, I suppose that would be borderline. Perhaps I should up from “bad” to “okay, but not that good”.
I’m not even sure they’d win that many. This lineup is brutal.
Mustelier 3-3 tonight so far and he threw a runner out at the plate.
#CallhimupCash
This is just incredible. Even when we DO get a break we mess it up with bad defense.
How much lower can we go?
Scratch that, there are two games left in this series.
MVP caliber feed from Jeter.
Somebody shit in your cereal this morning Mike? You’re usually in a good mood regardless of how the team/thread is going.
In the chat, he did give a disclaimer it wasn’t a good Friday. Everyone is allowed to have bad days. I just hope it’s nothing too serious.
My mouth is open in amazement right now. What a fucking game.
It’s cool, if we win the next two games we can forget this every happened.
This team has no heart,no desire, no nothing. I hope we get swept and then lose the rest of teh games. It will be the only way Girardi,Long adn the others get fired.
Yeah, they obviously don’t care and are actively disregarding every AB/pitch/play.
I love when people play armchair psychologist. I must have missed the college class that allows you to determine the feelings of players via a television screen.
It is not a college class — it is a skill one can only acquire by years of experience sitting on barstools with other regular attendees of that bar, who are all of course capable of seasoned expert judgment/moral critique of the psychology of athletes.
I’m sure it would make a martyr fan like yourself very happy.
This team has no heart,no desire, no nothing. I hope we get swept and then lose the rest of teh games. It will be the only way Girardi,Long adn the others get fired.
“Long And The Others” is a pretty great name for a band.
They’re touring with Mumford and Sons soon.
In a battle of the bands with “Buck and the Showalters”. Because no other coach on that team really matters.
I can only assume you’re not a Yankee fan.
(Also, Girardi is not getting fired if they get swept by the Orioles.)
Squeezed bigtime
Think back to june
When the yankees would comeback in games like this.
8 innings, 4 runs… not a stellar outing, but at some point the offense has to pick a pitcher up.
I concur. No reason why this should be a 4 run game. C’est la vie.
The Yankees should win a game most times when their starter pitches into the 9th surrendering four runs. Not always, but a high percentage of the time.
The good part of this game, now, is that the Yankees will at least go quickly 1-2-3 so we can move onto tomorrows pending debacle.
Enough. This is futility. I’m going to read in bed. Maybe I’ll have a good surprise in the morning when I check the score.
Good news. I have my pumpkin coffee.
Now I want pumpkin coffee.
That’s how it started for me a half hour back. Then I went and got my pumpking coffee!
That really IS good news. Love when the stores start coming out with the pumpkin flavored shit.
Is Rob short for ‘Roberta’?
I can not help Big Members Only desire for transgender types, but I can help you find some pumpkin coffee.
The sombrero for the Swish. Saw that one coming.
Blow it up!!
Are the trolls gone? Good.
They are not winning it this year, guys. They are too battered up and Cashman has had a middling year in the front office.
Accept it. And let go.
6
I know I can kick your ass too. Try and count to ten for once.
7
Go on.
That turned into an ironically negative post after your comment about trolls.
But not EXAGGERATED negativity like which is seen on here.
True. You’re not a troll.
Oh come on. Any team that is in contention to make the playoffs could win it all. In this case, the Yankees still have the inside track on that.
Ha, I love we both started our posts with “Oh come on”. Apparently this post inspires similar thoughts in people.
Oh come on Greg. The season isn’t over yet and we aren’t in first. Why are we “accepting” anything either way. That’s stupid. You root for the team and hope that they hit a hot streak and hold water until the injured guys come back. Then you wait and see what happens. You don’t give up on them, that’s just idiotic when we’re this close to the end and we’re actually still in pretty good shape.
I never expect them to win the WS. Never expect in sports because its out of your control.
What? You just told us to “accept” that it wasn’t their year. You’re expecting them NOT to win anything.
Fair enough. Never expect success in sports.
There’s no reason not to say the same thing about accepting failure. The reason you say it’s okay to expect failure and not success is because you’re afraid of the disappointment.
In a way you’re just as bad. You can’t handle failure so you just set the bar low to avoid having to deal with it. Yeah, they MIGHT fail, but there’s no better reason to expect them to than to expect them to success except for fear.
You know what? I expect them to do better, win the division, and have as good a spot in the playoffs as any other team. Sure the Yankees might fail, but I’ll DEAL with it instead of setting the bar low because I’m too much of a coward to accept failure as a possibility.
9
The Cardinals won the WS last year after barely making it to the postseason and sleeping through 2/3 of the season. Any team that makes it to the Postseason can win it. It’s a crap shoot, the hottest team ends up winning.
That’s why expecting them to win is stupid.
Last time I expected them to win was ’09. My gut was telling me they were too good. Haven’t had that feeling since.
That second half was the most confident that I had ever felt about a Yankee team. That was the one period that I dared to expect wins.
Still didn’t expect a WS but I expected victories in the second half.
10
I already said 10 below. Insane how a man can get joy out of putting numbers down on random comments.
11.
11
8
You messed up the order.
10
I get the offense is struggling but 9K’s in 7 innings against Gonzalez is a lack of adjustment on offense. At some point hit the ball the other way, shorten up, do something to change things up.
Still seems like too much of a grip it and rip it approach, especially by the lefties.
Kuroda’s on target to pitch a complete game shutout.
As for trolls like Athenian, I know I can kick their ass, at least in intelligence so they will not impress me with your attempts at being funny.
LOL!!!! Oh little sad man, you have no idea of what you speak. Being able to modify your posting name while searching an empty Coco Puffs box for the secret Powder Puff girls decoder ring does not scream advanced primate.
This.
Ibanez made that look a lot fancier than it needed to be.
Fire cash man!
When your highlight for the night is an Ibanez “web gem” you know you’re in trouble…
Penne bolognese is fucking delicious!!!!!!!!!!!
Chef boyardee is great. Love the little meatballs
Penne alla vodka, man!
LOOGY.
Kenny and Michael are actually talking good sense here.
why the fuck are they mixing and matching? Joe trying to prolong my agony?
I was just about to post that when Reynolds hit that ball…
Come on Joe, we’re down four nothing. Stop wasting our fucking pitchers.
Because Kurodawas near 100 pitches? And lefty = lefty at that stage
Or more likely Girardi is a slave to convention… if he’s really trying to keep it close, Rapda/Lowe is not the answer to:
“Who should I bring in from the pen first after an off day?”
Hey cash…..acquire more shit…see if it sticks against wall….bc eventually it doesn’t ass!
that mixing and matching sure worked out well.
Nice move joey
Baltimore is laughing at you.
Rock bottom while getting stomped in the face by the Devil right here folks.
I can’t believe I’m still watching this.
Derek Lowe is awesome.
Not that it really matters in this game.
Lowe should be the guy DFA’ed so they can bring up Dickerson. He is totally finished.
Sadly I agree… I though it was worth a shot at the time and he had that one glimmer of hope (4 scoreless), which of course will make Joe think he’s capable of turning it around.
But at this point Warren (or even Wade) can do what he does and at least the Yankees find out what Warren is capable of (and whether Wade is truly done too)
Wow….speechless……but not like I expected to win this one….. Kuroda has been great and is allowed to have a bad game (if you can really call 4 runs a bad game). The problem is the offense.
Hopefully Mark Reynolds doesn’t go on one of his tears. He’s sucked all year, but hasn’t had one of his month-long streaks where he cranks out ten-plus HRs. This would not be a good time for it, even if he is sadly on my fantasy baseball team.
Well, if nothing else, hopefully this game makes Joe realize Derek Lowe still sucks.
Now bring in joba to really throw the game away joey
at least the Rays lost
“C Pena singled to shallow right, E Johnson thrown out at home. ”
lol.
Leaky bullpen is going to leak.
This is awesome? I’m actually starting to enjoy watching girardis stupid moves
Dfa lowe for dickerson please.
I am generally against booing your own team, but if I were at the Stadium, I’d be booing lustily right now.
maybe they can’t use 5 or 6 pitchers to get the last 3 outs. Joe can get his exercise in walking back and forth.
I posted this earlier, but when they were down 4-0 why the fuck was Joe mixing and matching? What’s the point of wasting pitchers like that at this point? Sure, it’s not TECHNICALLY over, but be realistic Joe. A comeback would be incredible, but assuming it’s going to happen is dumb.
Especially if he’s going to bring in Lowe. That automatically lessens the chance of any comeback, so wtf is the point?
What was Kuroda’s count when they took him out? Imagine Lowe, Eppely, Rapada and Joba in the post season. It’s not a simple matter of a slumping offense and so-so pitching. The Yanks have fundamental problems
99 pitches…
eppley sucks and rapada is a 1 batter pitcher…
Lowe and Joba probably have no chance at the postseason roster. Possible Eppley or Rapada doesn’t make it either.
Take Kuroda out and put in Lowe, whatever. Just don’t bother taking Lowe out. There’s no point.
Kay: “his ineffectiveness almost putting this out of reach”
so he’s saying we have a chance?!
Can we scissor Lowe already.
almost putting it out of reach…….
they have not comeback in the 9th to win a game the whole season.
it is amazing what a dope Kay is and he has such a good job.
the yanks have not come back once, let alone from 6 runs..
50% chance Cano gets a hit this ab, since it means nothing….
nucky had a good game tonight. imagine some dope team is going to give him a 5 year deal for a fortune… foolish team will regret it around july of year 1.
granderson at 31 hitting low 230′s with 1 year left on his deal. zero chance he gets a extension.. if he does get an extension cashman should get fired……………
They totally have a seven-run 9th in them.
I think there’s something more than pumpkin in this coffee.
nicky not nucky. nucky is swishy’s brother. the platitudes and cliches will be flying after the gmae like the yankee hits….
Everyone is freaking out about the this team. This probably even ruined some of your nights. But as we watch this, these guys are already planning on what club their going to and what skanks they are gonna hook up with tonight.
Just imagine joey with an expanded bullpen with wade and warren joining the shit show. And felicano
Garbage time.
Five more in a row, please.
Test the o’neil theory, c’mon
Go eff yourself Granderson
the yankee way. solo homer heaven. that is what they do well…
It’s too bad someone didn’t toss Grandy’s homerun ball back. It epitomizes how one dimensional and pathetic this Yankee offense has been of late.
You don’t fool me Granderson.
Okay, now let’s start the real game.
That sucked. Back tomorrow.
who you pinch hitting? granderson is hitting 4th. chavez is hitting 5th.. putting the mighty steve pierce or whatever his name in the game? or pinch hit with the great chris stewart?
They lost because the high priced yankee players have not done sh-t for weeks;; that is grandy, swisher, cano, and tex is hurt but sucks and arod sucks also and gets hurt all the time anyways..
the only high priced guy to play near his contract is #2. that is it……
still haven’t mastered the reply concept yet….right button, wrong place……
Can’t be bothered to PH?
Not that it would make a difference, but why not?
Don’t know. Good question.
What a piece of shit game.
Lackluster. Pathetic, even the orioles weren’t excited on the final strike, that’s how long this game has been over
The thing that will get lost in that top of the 9th inning (over) management, is Baltimore might have had to use one of their good arms in the bottom of the 9th.
That is a good point.
Not sure if it is a good point, but they both worked yesterday so it MIGHT help a bit… this is why I can’t stand when Girardi treats anything more than a 3 run deficit as give up mode (which is what bringing Lowe in means)
He also does this on the offensive side when up by more than 2… up 3 is a good lead (and folks will say they should win the game anyway), but if you can tack on a run or two you might save arms in the pen and even if it is a marginal benefit to pinch hit, you do it. Even tonight… you get a couple of hitters on and maybe you get someone at least warming up in the O’s pen – it’s not like Chavez and Ibanez are young guys and you want to see how they handle a lefty.
no way the yanks did not come back late. shocking, this team of proffesional hitters of great repute..
how can you hold down robiinson, swishy, grandy, and the gang…
they have 230 avg.s all over the lineup and cano at 303 or so cannot hit with men in scoring position so he might as well hit 260 all the time… wow.. what a train wreck…………..
Can you please learn to type correctly. And did you really expect a team to come back from 6 runs? If you want a .280 hitter we have ARod…but oh wait you hate him too.
Arod sucks… you are thinking of Arod of years ago…
He sucks the guy was on pace for 80 rbi’s before he got hurt at about $30 mill. good ROI, do you know what ROI is moron?
Is there anyone on the team you like? You hate A-Rod, Swisher, Cano, Teixiera, Granderson…is Jeter the only player you like?
Jeter is old and over the hill remember?
i like guys who do not strike out a ton and play to there contract. I like jeter, cc, kuroda, hughes, robertson, the 260 avg version of grandy, the 280 ba version of tex..
tex pulling everything hitting 250 is not acceptable. granderson striking out like adam dunn is not acceptable.
i like plenty of the players… asking hitters to hit within a small deviation with RISP as they do when no one is on base is not a outrageous concern…
i do not expect cano to hit 420 with RISP but 280 is reasonable for a guy with that tyep of talent….Cano should be top 5 player in baseball, newsflash he is not close. yes he is the best 2b but that does not mean much………….
“he is the best 2b but that does not mean much………….”
brilliant……….
Well second basemen are for the most part terrible.
Somebody has to play second. Isn’t having the best a very good thing?
“i do not expect cano to hit 420 with RISP”
Intentional? If so, kudos to you sir.
reply button is hard to figure out isn’t it….. arod is much better than half of that lineup, but he wouldn’t help because he gets paid too much…..makes perfect sense genius………
What do you mean? Arod was hitting .276 before he went down and over .300 on the month. Is RBIs all you care about, and I’m the moron?
Also Arod being overpaid doesn’t make him any less of importance. His 122 wRC+ (and it was going higher as he was heating up at the time) would be our third/second best hitter right now. his 138 wRC+ vs lefties is one of the best on the team. He’s obviously not a 30 mil player, but it doesn’t make him useless.
WOW arod was hitting 300 for a 40 ab spa. GIve him an extension. whipptydoo. happy days are here again..
for the rbi morons.. the team with the most runs win the game…rbi’s mean alot. so does obp i realize that… ichiro has aunder 300 obp with a few other yankee pseudo regulars that is mariner like….
love guys who can’t punctuate, spell, or capitalize correctly calling other people morons……..
He’s trying really hard to copy Big Member, which is impossible.
RBI is a team stat. If Arod hits homerun and no one is on base in front of him is that his fault or the guys before not getting one base? Sure he’s not hitting for a great average, but he has a .360 OBP with RISP meaning he’s working the count and moving the line up along. And who says as the season goes on his RISP numbers don’t even out? Even in his decline he has hit 280 – .300 with RISP in the last two years.
He hit well for July, and his slugging percentage was increasing per month.
Your are really getting tiresome. Come up with a new shtick.
And stop typing like you’re having a damn stroke.
The bright side? I FINALLY took the time to play Portal, loved it, and have already, two days after finishing the original game, started downloading Portal 2.
Definitely a top two of all time game franchise (if Portal 2 is anything like the original), and I’m not sure if it’s one or two. Fucking love that game.
Portal 2 is even better than the original.
So, uh, should have traded for a bat last month?
Forseeing all these injuries? Yes
Otherwise, what position would you want one at? I mean catcher i guess, but no one is available.
The could have got a legit OF/DH bat. Ichiro doesn’t really fit that description at this point in his career.
I guess. But Ichiro has been around his career OPS with us. I don’t think Cashman expected Grandy to fall off like he has in the second half. None of the OF bats that were traded at are much better anyways. It was not as if Ryan Braun was on the market.
His career OBP is .365.
His Yankee OBP is .309.
Not even close.
OPS… his OPS with us is .740, his career is like .780. He’s hitting with more power but less OBP
Good to see the Swish make a strong case for a 9-figure contract. Pitiful.
This collapse is totally worth it if only to see Axisa panic and implode on Twitter.
That’s right. I plugged his twitter.
He has every right to.
I would be scared for him if he wasn’t getting massively pissed off. Actually, I wouldn’t be scared, I would be bugging his ass sideways to find out what kind of hallucinogenic drugs he had at his disposal. I could use some myself right now.
Geez. Tell us what u really think, bro.
Kabak is writing angry subway reviews right now.
