Game 136: Game One

By

(Ronald Martinez/Getty)

It’s a new season. The Yankees and Orioles are tied atop the AL East — the Rays are right on their tails as well — and they have 27 games to sort this thing out. The division lead has already been blown, there’s nothing anyone can do about that. Start this season with a win and get off a right foot. Here’s the starting nine…

SS Derek Jeter
RF Nick Swisher
DH Robinson Cano
3B Alex Rodriguez
Russell Martin
CF Curtis Granderson
LF Andruw Jones
1B Steve Pearce
2B Jayson Nix

RHP Hiroki Kuroda

Tonight’s game starts a little after 7pm ET and can seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally.

Team Meeting Update: The Yankees did hold a 20-ish minute team meeting before tonight’s game, just to kinda talk about the next 27 games and stuff. As you can imagine, Joe Girardi wasn’t exactly willing to divulge the details afterward. It’s the club’s second team meeting in the last week.

Who had the meeting with Girardi to smack some sense into him and get Russell Martin outta the no. 5 spot?

  • Rey22

Help us Obi Wan Kuroda. You’re our only hope.

  • wow

I bet if you’d ask any of the players they’d say something like: “If you would have told me in April that we would be tied for first place in September, I would have signed up for that in a heart beat. Who wouldn’t?”

    lol. what a joke.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

What, exactly, do you want them to say? I don’t know why people keep thinking the players and coaching staff are honest when they talk to the media.

      • jjyank

Of course. These aren’t the Boston Red Sox, after all.

Who actually wants to see Girardi, Cashman, or any of the players panic publicly? I sure don’t.

      • What’s my name!?

Like expecting an utter and complete homer to provide honest analysis.

        Heh:
        http://riveraveblues.com/2012/.....nt-4641011

        • jjyank

Are you really pointing to a TMITN rant to prove a point? Good luck with that.

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Take a wild guess why he linked to it.

            • jjyank

Makes sense. I had my suspicion, but you confirmed it.

  • stuart a

angels swept the A’s in oakland. a old fashioned beat down. the angels offense is back and they are pummeling teams bad pitching or not…

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Really? Martin’s hitting 5th?! I know I vouched for him earlier today, saying he is better than Cervelli, but shit if I was the Rays and if there is bases empty with Cano, Rodriguez, Martin due up I would either unintentionally-intentionally walk Cano and A-Rod or straight up IBB the pair of them and dare Martin, Granderson, or Jones to beat me.

  • EDDARD

MUST WIN!! Hiroki must win this ballgame and he’ll most likely have to pitch a CGSO to do it. I can’t believe Joe keeps trotting out the same old failures and expecting different results. Insanity is what that is.

    • DC

They couldn’t find Hiroki’s tree stump to catch for him.

    • Joffrey

I honestly don’t know what else he can do besides trot out the same players. Too late to trade, no backup in the minors.

  • JobaWockeeZ

I hope they threatened salaries for the underachievers in the meeting. Maybe then they’ll play better.

  • DC

    So, who bunts first?

  • Nice Scheister

    Be my Hiro, Hiroki!

  • dkidd

just win one game. one. some how, some way. remind us that’s it possible.

  • What’s my name!?

Exhibit A for why this team in in freefall: Their #5 hitter tonight is “hitting” .199 with a .665 OPS

    Girardi is a horrible manager.

    • Yanks wins 5 straight starting tonight

      Answer to your question:

      Moron

      • What’s my name!?

        Hey look at the Troll-homer!

Keep worshipping at the Girardi Idol. He’s only made Martin the DH four times this year.

        • Need Pitching & Hitting

Feel free to completely ignore the alternatives.
At least one of those DH days, the only alternatives were Ibanez against a LHP or Ramiro Pena.
Martin batting 5th is a joke, but look at the alternatives. Just about any alternative would also be a joke. The issue is more the quality and performance of the players available.

          • DC

His MIT degree only allows him to see things one way.

        • DC

Yeah, and how did that work out tonight, MIT ass?

  • Bill

Stay afloat until the last 11 games. Twins jays bosox. This team has collectively slumped and thus will bust out together. This has a 2000 team sorta feel

  • Tom

Platoon by numbers again… it’s almost like Matt Moore doesn’t have reverse splits.

This is what, the 3rd time in the last week where Girardi doesn’t even look at the pitcher’s actual splits?

I’m hoping it works, but I fear Moore will throw changeup after changeup to guys like Jones, Pearce, Nix.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    players only meeting tonight?! Interesting.

    • jjyank

After the game? Called by who? I am intrigued.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

before the game apparently. according to Suzyn. She didn’t say who called it, she just brought it up in passing.

        • jjyank

Interesting. I saw the “Team Meeting Update” in the post above, but didn’t realize it was players only. Hopefully something clicks.

  • jjyank

Today is the first day in a long time I didn’t read a single RAB post all day. It’s kind of weird. But also liberating. Not that I don’t enjoy RAB posts, but it was nice to disengage for the day.

Hopefully this game thread doesn’t get ugly enough to drive me to the Giants game by the 3rd inning.

    • Cy Pettitte

I’ve definitely cut back on my baseball media consumption the last few days. reading/hearing about the collapse every day, over and over again, is exhausting. I kind of, maybe, empathize with Sox fans now (if that’s even possible.)

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

I’ve been staying away from all sorts of Yankee related material. RAB comment sections, Twitter, MLB Radio, all of it is swamped with bridge jumpers and trolls.

If you really want to shake your head check out the comments on the NYY facebook posts or MLB page. The casual (read emotional and illogical) fans make the biggest splatter when they jump.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Really? today was one of the rare days that I did read everything. I don’t know why but almost in anticipation of the game I’ve had a RAB tab open all day. I usually just come by for the game, maybe an hour before to read the daily articles, because unless something is happening in Yankee land a lot of the comments are always the same regardless of what the actual article is about.

      • jjyank

I usually read everything, and comment on almost every thread. But in situations like this, I feel like it would be too gloomy all the time. I want to be in a good mood this week given the fact I am on vacation.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Oh great, Bob Davidson is the HP ump.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I was just thinking something. Everybody(including me) says “These guys are major leaguers, why can’t they bunt? How do they lack the ability to do that?” I think the answer is because they are major leaguers. My logic is these are the kids that you played with who hit like .900 up until high school where they hit .600 instead. At one point would any coach have them bunt?

    • jjyank

I think you’re right. When people were calling for Mark Teixeira to bunt, all I could think of is “when was the last time he actually bunted in a game? Like 5th grade?”

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

That last sentence should read “At WHAT point would any coach have them bunt.”

  • EDDARD

Now Swisher should bunt Jete over to 2nd. They need to play small ball to win.

  • jim p

Waldman in response to Girardi’s “you can’t ask players to do what they can’t do” in a pregame interview” “Well, these are major leaguers! Why can’t they bunt? They lost to Detroit because they couldn’t move a runner, hit a sacrifice fly.” In a very heated tone.

Worth noting, imo, only because I’ve never heard her be so critical, and upset, at a line coming from the Yankees.

Sterling says he was told that Andy might be ready in less than two weeks. We’ll see.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Change right down the middle. What in gods name are you waiting for Swish.

  • Chilango

    Swisher + Change = K

  • EDDARD

Two people the Yankees should let walk this offseason – Lou Pinella and Nick Swisher.

    • jjyank

Regarding Swish, what is the alternative? Unless he really sticks to the “Werth money” guns, I’d like to see him back. I have more faith in him going forward than Grandy, to be honest. Unless the Yankees swing a trade for a legit RFer, I don’t see how they let him walk and make the team better.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

My god. It’s almost like it’s scripted.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Leadoff man gets on: K and a DP. Love this team.

  • Matt

Why does everyone seem to think that blowing the lead is going to wake them up? They were clearly pressing before, and they’re only going to press more now that the lead is gone. The teams behind them are playing loose, and the Yankees are as tight as a drum.

  • Laz

Arod completely changes the look of the lineup for me.

  • EDDARD

Our only chance is to get someone to 3rd and induce a balk call from Balkin Bob Davidson. Swisher and Cano lead the league in the K-DP combo.

  • Defensive Indifference

K-Long was right. Swish should have bunted. (Cano, too probably.)

  • Big Member

i think pinella would be great girardi replacemnt next year

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Oh goodness no. That would Valentine-level bad.

      • Big Member

he played for the team. he wasnt no back up catcher like girardi. he has more managerial experience. what else can you want?

    • jjyank

Your longer analysis posts were better.

      • Big Member

dont worry big member will be analising replacemtn candidates for GM and manager tomorrow.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Honestly if Joe for some reason were to be let go (I’m not saying I do or don’t want it to happen, but it’s not happening) the only person I want interviewed for the job is Tito.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yeah, he would have to be first in line. I remember reading something recently saying that when they hired Girardi, the only people they interviewed were him, Pena, and Mattingly because they wanted someone familiar with life with NYY. If Girardi gets canned, I think Francona would be an exception to the whole “knows what NYY is like” rule.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Well he managed Boston to 2 World Series wins and a bunch of post seasons. I think if you manage in Boston/New York/Phili you can manage just about anywhere.

          • jjyank

I’d be cool with Tito. I personally don’t want Girardi fired, but I think Tito would be my first choice if he was. Plus, that’d be some sweet karma to Boston if the Yanks hired Tito and they proceeded to win the World Series.

      • WhittakerWalt

It would be great just to see the shitheel Red Sox fans boo their greatest manager.

  • EDDARD

Hiroki can’t give up one single run or it might be over. Poor guy. He’s done all he can this season and they just don’t score any runs for him.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Everyone be cool. We got this.

  • Karl Krawfid

Sam Fuld using the whole field. lol

Using a splitter to get ahead in the count to set up the 4 seam fastball out pitch.

    Got to love the Yanks.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Bunts.

  • Pat D

I missed the opportunity to say this at the top, but I’ll say it now.

If the Yankees fail to win this game, there will be darkness for 1,000 years!

    • Laz

      OK Chuck Norris.

      • Pat D

        At least someone replied.

        :)

  • Hummingbird S.

Rays announcers are talking about Sam Fuld and how he’s such a tough out. It must not be the same Sam Fuld of the 93 career OPS+

  • Chilango

Leadoff runner on, bunted over to 2d, RISP. Of course.

  • EDDARD

These Rays don’t have any trouble bunting. Now they have a RISP which we probably won’t achieve until the 5th inning.

  • stuart a

the great cano with the roll over dp, what a shockeer.

    again he is a fraud…..

    • Defensive Indifference

      What, no parade?

    • WhittakerWalt

How the hell is Cano a fraud? That’s crazy.

  • Cy Pettitte

    fucking lol.

  • Karl Krawfid

OMG Mcgee Go for the fucking ball

    • Hummingbird S.

      that was pearce

    • RkyMtnYank

      Pearce

  • Hummingbird S.

    game over.

  • Ron

    And it begins

  • EDDARD

Well, that should just about do it. Bunting works, doesn’t it? I think I’m gonna see what the Giants are up to.

    • RkyMtnYank

shhh, can’t say bunt here, and the games not on yet.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I thought the game doesn’t start till 8:30?

  • http://Fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    It’s too easy

  • Widget

Maybe the Yankees will try something different and try to score runs tonight?

  • Karl Krawfid

Why the fuck would you be holding on Sam Fuld at 2nd anyway? Jesus christ his gonna score regardless.

    Fuck this team.

  • Matt

Poor Kuroda. He makes a great pitch and induces a weak ground ball, only to have Cano positioned up the middle instead of in his normal spot.

You can just see the body language of Swisher as he tossed that ball back in. Defeated.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

Cano looked an awful lot like Jayson Nix.

      • Matt

Whatever. It doesn’t matter who it was. I’m not following them that closely.

  • http://Fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

We were better off when his name was believed to be Mcgayhee

  • cjc

    yay football season

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’m shocked that Alex has seen even one, let alone 2, hittable pitches in this AB.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

He really hasn’t given anybody a reason to pitch around him yet.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Russel Martin has done everything to prove that you should want to pitch to him, even over a slumping Alex. Perfect Example: popping up a 3-1 fastball right down the middle.

        • Need Pitching & Hitting

No reason to remotely pitch around anybody in the lineup after Cano. Arod didn’t even manage to make contact on a fastball down the middle.

    • Hummingbird S.

      and did nothing, as usual

  • Cy Pettitte

they’ll probably get 2 hits at the most over the next 5 innings

  • Widget

Second place after tonight. Just scary to realize the freefall is still not over.

  • Hummingbird S.

it feels like a 12K night for Moore.. it’s really amazing that no hitter on the Yankees can hit a pitch in the middle of the plate. A-Rod got 2 and did nothing.

    • Will The Thrill

37 year olds tend to have a hard time catching up to 98MPH pitch thrown by a 22 year old fireballer.

      • jjyank

Especially when fresh off the DL with a broken hand.

  • Chilango

Martin batting 5th just about says it all.

  • Will The Thrill

    A-Rod’s contract looks worse everyday.

    • Karl Krawfid

Just like the team hes playing on.

      • Will The Thrill

I still have hope for this team 2013 and beyond. I can’t say the same for A-Rod.

    • stuart a

you have not seen anything yet. unless a $30 mill a year guy who gets 75 rbi’s and cannot play defense is to your liking.

  • Cy Pettitte

superb inning from the 4-5-6 hitters.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

    Kurtis

  • Karl Krawfid

This is gonna make me cry.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I hate Gameday. Where was that last pitch to Grandy? Was it at least a pitch he should be swinging at?

    • Karl Krawfid

Swung at a ball up out of the strike zone.

Swung at a ball down out of the strike zone.

Took a called strike that split the plate earlier in the at bat.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ok, so it was the one low and out of the zone that got him =/ baseball is supposed to be fun. It hasn’t been in a very long time.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Thigh-high, 3-1 straight-arrow fastball to #5 hitter and weak pop-up to short.

    /microcosm’d

  • jjyank

Man…I didn’t even like football until college. Even then, it was just something I did to pass time during the baseball offseason. Now I’m actually looking forward to the Giants game. Never thought I’d say that.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The Giants are a very likable team. The only unlikable member was Jacobs and he’s gone.

      • jjyank

I expect you to give me a briefing. Outside of Eli, a couple defensive guys and a couple offensive guys, I know nothing.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’m not as into the Giants as the Yankees, for example I couldn’t tell you a single member of their O-line. Look out for Ramsis Barton, Wide receiver, this season though. He’s primed for a break out year if he can stay healthy.

          • Kramerica Industries

            *Ramses Barden

            **Asshole’d

  • stuart a

sheep going to slaughter. highlight from the yansk first 2 innings. swisher watching a pitch go right down the middle not moving. cano with a roll over dp, and grandy with a K ..

thank g-d arod is back our savior is here. after all the overpaid piece of crap got 2 hits that almost left the infield.

this is groundhog day, nuts….this team is a disgrace….

1 hit so far tonight, maybe they can get 7 tonight. if the announcers tell me how great the opposing pitcher is for 7 innings they are out of there minds… the yankee offense is in hibernation.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

      i like ellipses….

  • Will The Thrill

Curtis Granderson is pretty much sealing his fate this season. He’s shown that his flaws outweigh his pros. I like the power but hate the shitty defense and how strikeout-able he is. I don’t want another old guy on this team who can’t hit to save his life.

    • Laz

No doubt they pick up his option though. they don’t have anyone else to replace him yet.

  • Tom

Maddon has to be laughing at the way Girardi employs defense shifts. I still remember the Yankees getting beat by Desmond Jennings in the first series of the year on a similar groundball… because Girardi apparently though Jennings was a deadpull hitter and had the 2nd baseman pretty much behind 2nd.

when there is a man on first or 2nd, for some reason either the SS (if it’s a lefty) or the 2nd baseman (if it’s a righty) is almost always nearly behind 2nd base, regardless of who the hitter is. And what makes this painful is if there is noone on base (or a guy on 3rd), Nix is nowhere near 2nd base with Longo up. I don’t know if he gets to that ball either way but the positioning was crap.

Much like the platoon thing, Girardi has dumbed it down and just applies it in blanket form without actually thinking about the specific hitter or pitcher involved… all that matters is handedness.

  • Cy Pettitte

Yankee offense goes down 1-2-3 almost every inning, Yankee pitchers can’t have a clean 1-2-3 inning

  • Big Members Only (formerly RI$P FTW)

    Another high fly ball
Would you believe it’s already fall?
    Another soft grounder to third
The O’s and Rays feet, have you heard?
    Another stranded, another stranded
    The parade stops there
    Another stranded, another stranded
    Opportunity to thin air

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

“At some point, you just have to tip your cap to the pitcher….”

    :)

  • TomH

I see Toronto has a run. Someone must have read that comment the other day that the Jays were–how to put this?–not giving it their all.

They’ll give their all when the Yankees show up.

  • Will The Thrill

Jeff Keppinger > Jayson Nix/Casey McGehee. I love how the Rays always find these diamonds in the rough every year even though they have about 1/8th of the resources the Yankees do. The front office has to be part of the blame opfor the failures of this team over the past couple of years. Our scouting and drafting has been horrible.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

I agree that the Rays FO does a good job, but I don’t understand how the Yankee teams of the past few years have been failures. We’ve made the playoffs in each of the last three years, finishing first in 2011 and 2009. Teams like the 2009 team don’t come around every year.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

well at least Granderson is helping with his stellar defense

    • Will The Thrill

I want him out next year. Sign Michael Bourn or trade for Peter Bourjos. His crappy defense and proneness to the strikeout don’t compensate enough for a .230 average and 30HRS.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

        Bourjos is fucking awful.

        • Will The Thrill

Um he’s only 25 and only had one full season under his belt. How do you assess that he’s awful? I thought he actually had a good 2011 season.

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Doesn’t walk, strikes out a ton, doesn’t hit for power, doesn’t steal an ungodly number of bases. I will never be a fan of defense-first players.

            • Laz

same here. Funny now that in the offseason people at other sites thought I was crazy saying the angels should trade bourjos. Defense is good, but if a player can’t hit you will never score any runs.

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

        lol Bourjos

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

Maybe Bourn, but he’ll probably cost to much.
        No thanks on Bourjos.
More likely just move Gardy to CF and look for corner OF’s.

  • Karl Krawfid

    lol just call the game.

  • Defensive Indifference

    Kurtis whiffs on both ends.

  • EDDARD

Yeah, trade his ass this offseason. Gardner can get that and for a lot cheaper. What a waste of a season.

    • Karl Krawfid

I think he has a contract option.

    • Will The Thrill

What a waste of trading Austin Jackson! I guess Cashman just doesn’t believe prospects can blossom into superstars anymore. That’s what fueled the 90s dynasty, the farm. And the front office is straying away from that. Granderson has been great don’t get me wrong but I’d rather have 6 years of Austin Jackson on the cheap then one good year (last year) from Granderson.

      • EDDARD

Exactly. And he traded our other top flight prospect for a drunk, overweight injured pitcher. Sure Montero ain’t lighting it up in Seattle but couldn’t we have gotten someone better than a lush?

        • Laz

Wait till next year to decide that. Montero had no long term future with the team because he isn’t a good catcher. Pineda and Campos could both turn out to be good pitchers. Unless Montero turns into M Cabrera type hitter then it was a fine trade. Every year this team doesn’t have the pitching it needs.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Tino, O’niel, Coney, Wells, Girardi, Brosius, and countless others all say “Hi, and we’d like some credit for that dynasty some time soon please?”

        • Will The Thrill

I said the farm contributed greatly, not that they were the sole reason for the dynasty.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Fair enough. Usually people are “blah blah blah the core 5 blah blah blah blah.”

        • JobaWockeeZ

What a stretch, the developed players were vastly better baseball players than any of those guys. Which was the point.

  • Cy Pettitte

fucking pathetic. when is someone gonna step up? Offense has been bad but Kuroda is shitting the bed in the 2nd inning. He or CC should be able to give us 7 or 8 innings of shut out of 1 run ball against a team like the Indians, Jays or Rays.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

That’s what you get for trying to copy Jeter’s scrape-face, Elliot.

Please make them pay for that ineptitude, Yanks.

  • EDDARD

Didn’t work but at least Maddon is trying. One manager is using ingenuity to maximize the talent that he has and the other manager is sitting back waiting for someone to bail him out with a home run.

    • Kramerica Industries

I said it last night but it bears repeating:

Joe Girardi is not particularly innocent for this wretched skid the Yankees are on, but at the same time, it’s really hard for him to do much of anything right now when literally NOTHING is working for this team right now.

I mean, if his near vein-bursting experience couldn’t even get the Yankees to come close to scoring another run last night, then nothing is going to fire this team up right now.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

wow…their’s an annoying scraping/buzzing noise on the radio broadcast, almost like there is a fly buzzing around right on the microphone. It is the most distracting annoying thing since the bells.

    • Mike N

Ma or Pa’s hearing aid is on the fritz?

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      It’s Jeff Goldblum

  • flamingo

    HIROK.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nice pitching there by Kuroda. Offense:TAKE SOME FUCKING PITCHES give this guy a break!!! I will guarantee right now: if this isn’t at least a 10+ pitch inning for Moore there is 0 chance of winning this game.

    • Mike N

“I will guarantee right now: if this isn’t at least a 10+ pitch inning for Moore there is 0 chance of winning this game.”

      HAHAHAHHAHAH!!! Easy, now.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I fully stand by that statement. My logic being: Quick inning, Kuroda has zero time to even take a breath before being sent back out there, he’s more likely to make a mistake, we get down 3-4 and the game is over before we know it.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      Take pitches!!! (strikeout)

      …But not too many!!!!

  • Cy Pettitte

I would hope Jones runs into the ball, period. then he would actually get on base.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Take one for the team Rudi Stein!

  • Mike N

I am in a good mood for unknown reasons, and I feel good about this game. I think Kuroda-san is gonna settle right down and pitch a complete game win.

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

You and I might be the only ones. Pretty tough to be optimistic these days.

      • Laz

I know, you see a game where you think they should win, and they still can’t muster any offense.

  • The Guns of Navarone

    Thanks for coming Andruw

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Toast.

  • Chilango

Binderfuck: look at the chapter on reverse splits…

  • EDDARD

Absolutely pathetic that he still has a roster spot let alone starting. Wouldn’t wanna play Nunez or try anything different because everything is working so well as is.

    • Laz

I know, if I was Joe I would be starting Nunez regularly. Sure his defense isn’t as good, but playing Nix/Pearce/Jones/Ibanez on a regular basis is killing any chance of a big inning unless it starts at the top of the lineup.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Awful at-bat by Andruw. It looks like he’s afraid to swing to swing the bat.

  • Karl Krawfid

Jesus christ swing the fucking bat.

  • Cy Pettitte

wow this is just a joke. they can’t even put it in play. here comes another 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning.

  • Will The Thrill

It seems like the hitters are either taking or swinging away, hoping they get lucky. Haha! They have no idea what their doing at the plate!

  • Widget

Why did they cut Fuokodome? He has to be better than Pearce.

    • Laz

I’m surprised they never brought up Cust. Sure he is adam dunn lite, but he gets on base more than ibanez or jones.

  • 15 Day DL

Was Girardi smoking meth when he put out this lineup?

  • TomH

    Over-matched against this kid.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

HE went 0-2 on every batter this inning. And Nix shoulda been run up there

  • 15 Day DL

    Where the F**K is Nunez?

  • EDDARD

Tip your cap, folks. Roger Clemens shut us down Tuesday, Greg Maddux last night and tonight Sandy Koufax. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to these great pitchers.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

Moore is at least legit good.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Wow. Embarrassing inning.

  • Kramerica Industries

You know what would be nice for me to turn the game on to every once and a while?

    A Yankees lead.

I could swear, it’s been forever since I turned on a game for the first time and saw either:

    a) a Yankees lead

    or, hell,

    b) that the Yankees have any runs

    Sickening.

  • Ron

Moore looks beastly and with this crappy line up it’s over.

  • Cy Pettitte

8 straight retired, 6 K’s, GIDP, and a pop up. lmfao.

  • Karl Krawfid

This is my worst experience as a Yankee fan ever.

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Really? I don’t see how anything could be worse than 2004.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        2001. I was 11. I cried.

        • Karl Krawfid

Again. Schilling and Johnson on that team. Yanks should have lost in 5. Stretching it to 7 was amazing.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I know, but leading going into the bottom of the 9th with the completely unbeatable (up to that point) Mariano Rivera on the mound? Literally the saddest sporting experience of my life.

            • Karl Krawfid

Yeah no doubt that hurt. He struck at the side in the 8th also :(

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yankees had no business taking a lead into the ninth inning of Game Seven. Arizona mopped the floor with them that series.

            • Tom

              Cano’s going to double here.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

1995 was the first time baseball ripped my heart out. Doug fucking Strange.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I was to young then to even be allowed to stay up late enough to watch the games let alone understand what was happening. In retrospect, I’m happy I was.

            • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

I was just old enough, and yeah, it was also the first time baseball ripped my heart out.

            • Pat D

1995, 1997, 2001 and 2004 were all the worst for me, to varying degrees.

1995 because I knew it was Mattingly’s last chance. That was a little ironic because my older sister loved Mattingly and I was a Winfield guy. I always resented that Mattingly was better like. I was too young for the 1981 World Series and didn’t realize it had to do with homegrown vs. free agent. Still, when Winfield won with Toronto, I was able to forgive the Yankees for trading him.

1997 sucked because my grandfather was dying as that series was concluding. Years later I came to the realization that I didn’t particularly like my grandfather for several reasons, so this doesn’t hurt as much.

2001 was the worst year of my life. Failed out of Notre Dame, 9/11, stopped going to class at community college which pretty much ended my chance of ever getting back to ND, all that shit.

              2004 was obvious.

        • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Yeah, that was horrible. 2004 was still way worse for me, but 2001 was bad.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

2004 I was pissed. I actually got into a fight the next day at school cause a Met fan was goading me about it, 2001 I was just sad.

      • Karl Krawfid

I don’t know. At least we got beat by a good team. It was over quick. This shit has been slow and painful.

      • TomH

1965: unexpected long fall from a cliff, like the coyote in road runner cartoons.

        • Pat D

My dad can relate to that. I think that for him 1964 was the worst. He was 15, and they’d obviously won so often during his life up to that point. Then it took 12 years to get back.

    • JonS

      You must be young. lol

      • Karl Krawfid

        Nope.

  • EDDARD

“We’re not going to change our philosophy.” I hope he’s saying that next year in the broadcast booth.

Well, Hiroki already lost one 1-0 ballgame vs King Felix. This has the feeling of another. Moore for 8 IP with 16 Ks, Rodney for the 1-2-3 9th.

    BUNT!!!

  • EDDARD

    • Will The Thrill

Or possibly a DP and K. They’re trying to make things interesting!

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ok. We have to take advantage of this baserunner. Steal second, bunt him over to third, suicide squeeze to bring him home.

      guess not.

  • Cy Pettitte

    should of bunted

  • Effthisnoise

We have a RISP! We have a RISP! Now is it time for the DP?

  • Tony

Good job Cano. Arod, please go to a hypnotist to try to get you to think that you are 25 again

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Big opportunity here. They can’t afford to waste it.

  • Tom

    Take a pitch Arod

  • Herby

Is Luke Scott in the running for most stupid looking beard in baseball. I guess that’s his drool channel.
Okay…lets see if they can get something going. A three run shot would be nice…but he’ll probably decide to have Alex bunt.

  • Chilango

Swisher doesn’t know how to bunt. He would have popped it up. As far as first pitch swinging, well, Moore is going right after them so I could see how Swish would swing.

    Teh clutch doubles!!!!

  • Tony

  • Will The Thrill

The only way I’ll feel safe is if they score 10 runs. Thats how bad things are with this team.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

So, Robbie walked against a lefty, and Martin hit an XBH…maybe Jones will spring back to life too?

  • Tom

    Signs of life.

ARod turning on a good fastball is a tremendous sign.

Martin simply driving the ball in the air with a runner on 3rd is a good sign as well (hammering it for a double is gravy)

If Jones gets a hit here look out for lightning

  • Kramerica Industries

Hirok-a-dok has got to keep the Rays shut down now.

    No two ways about it.

Martin hitting .201 now, so I guess that means he won’t be getting another hit for a while. At least he made it count.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Quick inning.

  • Patrick

Can anyone explain to me hy Andruw is still getting regular ABs? He looks just awful and has all season. Martin’s a young man, you expect him to return to form, but Andruw… Just looks old. Kills rallies.

    • Tom

Nice job…. after that weak crap to lead off the inning, Kuroda erases it.

    DOUBLES FOR EVERYONE!

  • Karl Krawfid

    Keep adding on please.

  • Chilango

The Capt is hot again. Time to step up, Nick

  • EDDARD

Jete making a strong case for MVP. If the leads the Yanks back to the division title I think he’s got it locked up.

    • Mike N

He’s already locked up most valuable old fuck player (MVOFP).

    • Patrick

I think if the Yanks win it all he has it locked up, otherwise it seems rather unlikely to me.

  • Tom

    Derek Jeter…. en fuego
(the hit last inning is a line drive in the box score)

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

So as of Sept 12th the National’s rotation is going to go from Strasburg,Gio,Zimmerman,E-Jax to Gio,Zimmerman,E-Jax,Lannon. That’s still a really good rotation come playoff time.

    • Tom

Don’t forget Detwiler, who has also been tremendous for them (3.15 ERA)

Not sure if it will be Lannan or Detwiler in the 4 spot.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Either way, people are lamenting how much they’re shooting themselves in the foot this season by shutting Strass down. Obviously their rotation is taking a hit, but if by some miracle we do make the WS and it’s against the Nationals: That second rotation would still scare the shit out of me.

        • Tom

          Andruw flashing the leather.

That said, probably a smart play for him, but does any average LF get that ball?

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Still wouldn’t wanna be Mike Rizzo when the lynch mob comes a calling.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Holy shit.

Dude, it’s the fifth inning. Fast forward your DVR.

      • Kramerica Industries

I opened the Giants game on my browser.

  • Cy Pettitte

I miss Gardy. he catches that easily.

    • Patrick

You are seeing the game approximately 3 min faster than I am on MLB.tv

    • Tom

I think a lot of LF’rs catch that ball. Dickerson probably gets it.

Probably a smart play for Andruw as that had triple past a sliding Jones written all over it.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Walk to sam fuld.

    He better get Zobrist.

  • Chilango

Just go after Zobrist stop fuckin around

  • The Zen Troll

Still playing Jones I see . . . I just don’t have any more words for Andruw any more. It’s simply a sad situation.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Come the fuck on.

2 damn strikes. Get the fucking hitter.

  • Cy Pettitte

all with two outs and two strikes. fuck this.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Choke job.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

You’ve gotta be fucking KIDDING ME.

    Un.

    Real.

  • Anthony

THE SECOND I TURN ONT THE TV. My god. Enough with these 0-2 hits!!! Screaming at my TV here.

  • Hummingbird S.

yup, this is our best pitcher… congrats hiroki

  • WhittakerWalt

    FUCK THIS

  • EDDARD

If you have speed that’s what you can do. Too bad we don’t have it.

  • Cy Pettitte

he’s so concerned with the fucking runner that means NOTHING if he just does his job and gets Zobrist. fucking moron.

    • Chilango

      Yes.

  • Kramerica Industries

Seriously, now even Hiroki can’t hold the fort down.

This team is so fucked up right now it’s beyond any explanation.

  • Karl Krawfid

2 strike fastball. I mean come the fuck on. No Splitter? Slider? Curve?

    come on man.

  • Widget

This is what happens when you walk garbage like Sam Fuld with 2 outs. You don’t deserve to win the game.

Just not meant to be Yankees.

  • Cy Pettitte

Kuroda is toast, he has nothing. suffering from Freddy syndrome, can’t finish the 5th.

  • EDDARD

Take this bum out right now. He’s done. Get Eppley and Rapada warming.

    • Patrick

Are you referring to the Yankees best pitcher?

  • Mike N

    C’mon, Kuroda. Bear down!!!!!!!!!

  • The Zen Troll

2 Run Triple and a Giant Rookie Fumble. NEW YORK, BABY!!! Life is good!

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Can Andruw Jones not play anymore please?

    • Patrick

      Srsly

  • Anthony

I still have faith in Kuroda, but I can basically tell you what is going to happen the rest of the game based on the past month. The Yanks are going to put 0s up for the next 3 innings… the Rays will hit a weak single into the outfield in the 8th…baserunner steals second…another single, ball game over.

  • TomH

Well, For “Greatness,” as Kay calls it, Cano and ARod will have to do it all again.

Damnit…I don’t know if I should laugh or cry. Going out with the guys for the Giant game. Hopefully my absence will benefit the team somehow.

  • Karl Krawfid

    No one on, 2 outs.

    CHALLENGE SAM FULD.

  • Kramerica Industries

For what it’s worth, all three games in this series have featured an inning where the Rays scored despite having two outs, and no baserunners.

Then you wonder why this team can’t buy a win right now.

    • Anthony

And the player who batted the runs in probably was down in the count 0-2.

    • Chilango

Girardi: They put some good AB against us. Hey it’s baseball.

  • The Zen Troll

Moment I put the game feed on Hiroki walks and lets up the triple. Troll’s fault. All is well, folks. Don’t worry, be happy.

  • Cy Pettitte

    9 K’s through 5 2/3 just wow.

  • The Zen Troll

The Yankees are whiffing like mad! Good things to come!

  • Athenian

Pitchers can get Cano on that pitch all day long. He always swings an never hits it.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Russ again!!!!

  • Mike N

    RUSSELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kramerica Industries

    Motherfucking Mussell to the rescue.

    Don’t blow another lead.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Coltrane.

  • Anthony

OH MY GOD. Martin just tore through the Mendoza line.

  • Cy Pettitte

thank fucking god for Russell having a good game. now maybe hold this lead for, I don’t know, 4 innings.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

    It would be Russ.

  • EDDARD

That’s why you’ve gotta stick with these guys. People wanted Martin benched before the game for Cervelli. He’s showing them all why they were dead wrong.

  • Widget

Martin going deep? What the hell?

  • Cy Pettitte

lol Granderson might finish with a lower BA than Russell.

  • Jimmy Is Key To David’s Cone

    RUSSELL MARTIN IS THE YANKEES

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Okay now bring in Lowe.

    • Mike N

I want Kuroda in there as long as possible.

      • Laz

Even if he has not been on today, that bullpen needs a rest.

  • Cy Pettitte

Blue Jays take the lead 3-2 with a safety squeeze!

  • flamingo

    Ahahahaha.

  • RkyMtnYank

Guess Russ just needed to feel important again batting in the fifth spot.

  • EDDARD

But can our pitchers hold a lead? We’ve lost 2 games lately because our best pitchers haven’t been able to hold a lead. Kuroda already gave up one lead. He needs to pitch one more and we’ll use Robertson and Soriano to get through 3 innings.

CC- Failed to hold 3-2 lead
Hughes – Failed to hold 3-1 lead
Kuroda – Failed to hold 3-1 lead

    • EDDARD

Kuroda- Failed to hold 4-3 lead.

  • The Zen Troll

Russel Martin will carry the Yankees into the playoffs. Russel Martin is back! Yankees are back! GOOD THINGS TO COME!

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Get it done, Hirok.

  • Cy Pettitte

    and lead gone. fucking loser.

  • Mike N

    ugh

  • The Zen Troll

Even the Zen Troll can’t say just HOW bad Curtis Granderson. The Zen Troll is blind to Grandy’s horrendous season. Zen Troll believes Curtis will be a force to reckon with!

    I can’t even right now.

  • Anthony

lol. time to take Kuroda out. Except our bullpen minus Sori and D-Rob will just give up more runs.

  • JonS

It’s like it’s just not meant to be…

  • EDDARD

LOL! What a joke this team is. Just die already.

  • Hummingbird S.

down to zero reliable starters.. this team is going places

  • Cy Pettitte

Hiroki, it’s seppuku time. you fucking suck.

  • Anthony

I miss the days where I could enjoy a yankee lead for more than 10 minutes

  • Athenian

    When you suck, you suck.

  • The Zen Troll

Zen Troll believes that the Yankee pitchers will finally learn to hold a lead. A CHANGE IS COMING!

  • Widget

I turn away for like a second and they are tied? Damn it Kuroda.

  • Kramerica Industries

First home run for Scott since JULY 19.

    Think about that.

  • Cy Pettitte

ANOTHER 2 out walk. just perfect.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Walk more shitty hitters please.

  • The Zen Troll

    Positive, happy thoughts!

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Kuroda WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?

  • Chilango

2 out walk. Here comes the CF. Larry tell Kuroda to concentrate on Johnson this time.

  • Tom

2 out walks with noone on base to weak hitters…. you just can’t do that. Make them hit their way on with 2 out. (It’d be different if it was someone like Pena or Longoria)

It burned him last inning, hopefully he can avoid damage here.

  • Cy Pettitte

Jays now up 6-2 at least.

    • Widget

      Luis Ayala – Embedded Yankee

  • Widget

Walking a garbage 10th string catcher with two outs. Nah, no way that’s gonna bite them in the ass.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Fire the entire pitching rotation and make Joba a starter!!!

  • EDDARD

Joba in a tie game, might as well leave Hiroki in there if you want to lose.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

What does s/a mean? Kabak uses it in about 90% of his tweets.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

I’m thinking it means shit ass but haven’t confirmed.

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

        That’s what I thought.

  • Mike N

Phew. Now we need some serious runs.

  • Kramerica Industries

So, strangely enough, one can argue the offense has done its job tonight…and Kuroda has blown two leads.

This is the perfect example of one side remembering to be shit when the other side isn’t.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

4 runs against Moore with Kuroda on the mound against the Rays offense really should be enough.

      • Laz

yea, they really should not have expected any better tahn 4 runs through 6 innings.

        • Kramerica Industries

Hence why I said you can argue the offense did its job.

Really, why are we focusing on that? I wasn’t condemning them.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting

I was just agreeing with you.

  • Kramerica Industries

Another fact to chew on – the last five times the Yankees have taken the lead in a game, they have surrendered that lead.

Sunday, Monday, yesterday, and twice today.

  • Anthony

Did Jones just… no, it can’t be

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Jones looked surprised when he hit that single.

  • The Zen Troll

The tides have turned. Andruw Jones is back, Jack!!!

  • JonS

That’s probably his first career Pinch run. lol

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    bunt

  • Kramerica Industries

    Promising start.

What dismal end shall it meet? Discuss!

    • The Zen Troll

Happy Thoughts! 3 run inning, AT LEAST! WOOOOOOO!

  • Mike N

    NOW BUNT MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Zen Troll

Ichiro won’t get caught stealing. Impossible, baby!!! This team is going the distance!

  • Tom

Professional ballplayer needs to do the professional thing here.

    • Tom

      Safety squeeze?

      Commit to small ball!

  • Mike N

    BUNT, DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mikhel

This is the last game of the series so, following one of the JoeG rules, that means Chamberlain will pitch. Ugh.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Professional baseball player with a professional play.

  • Mike N

    YEHA!!!!!!!!!!! NICE BUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Nice job.
They should PR Dickerson for Pearce.

  • Anthony

Looks like this was what K-long was talking about. Nix almost beat that, to boot.

  • Mike N

I really love a nice bunt.

  • JLC 776

Alright, Cap’n… a hit when it can really count now….

  • Widget

Can’t wait to see how they mess this up.

  • EDDARD

That’s how you play baseball. Here comes our old friend Farnsworth. Better score 2 just to be sure we don’t blow yet another lead.

  • The Zen Troll

Two Runs, BABY! HERE COME THE YANKEES! BACK IN ACTION!

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Am I the only one who thinks bunting with a struggling team is even dumber than with a strong offense? Every time a team struggles people suggest bunting more. I would think giving away out when a team already isn’t making the most of the ones they have is counterproductive.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

To note, I don’t mind the bunt in that situation, just kinda saying in general.

    • Mike N

You’re not just giving away an out. You’re trading an out to move a player either (or both) from 1B to scoring position, or from 2B to 3B, where he can score on an out. That is a very good trade when your worst batter in the lineup is at the plate.

      • Kramerica Industries

You also remove the GIDP from the equation.

  • flamingo

Was that a strike? It looked like it was on Gameday.

    • flamingo

Meaning the first pitch the at bat.

  • Cy Pettitte

    hooray for errors!!!

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Hell yes!!!!

    Better lucky than good.

  • Kramerica Industries

Oh what a huge break that is.

    DO NOT WASTE THAT.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      • Kempire Strikes Back

Unintentional hilarity. Is there any better kind?

  • Mike N

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what I love even more than a nice bunt? A FUCKING ERROR LIKE THAT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anthony

YES! Didn’t even waste an out. If we give this lead up I’m done for the season. I wish D-Rob could pitch the 7th too….

  • Tom

Wow… that worked out far better than it should have.

    But HELLS YEAH!

    Have Jetes steal 3rd now…

    • Tom

      Awesome!

    • flamingo

      Predict 28, quick.

  • Cy Pettitte

    woo Jeet!

  • Effthisnoise

    Yanks waking up!

  • EDDARD

Jete got the job done yet again. MVP is his if we can hold onto this lead and the division.

  • Anthony

I f*ckin love this aggressiveness! We are making them look like idiots!!

  • Chilango

Finally pressuring the other team . Nice

  • RkyMtnYank

Wow, nice to see some fucking lively baseball being played!

  • EDDARD

SB for Jeter! That’s small ball, folks. And it’s working!

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

If not for Elliot Johnson, we wouldn’t even be in this game

    • http://www.g6tec.com Jedile

He should be the player of the game for the Yankees with Russel!

  • Laz

    Ah, Good ol’ Farnsworth.

  • The Zen Troll

HERE COME THE JOLLY, LOVING, CUDDLY, ADORABLE YANKEES!!!

  • Cy Pettitte

wow Swish that’s pathetic. can’t even hit a sac fly?

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Swisher is completely lost at the plate right now.

  • Chilango

Swisher can’t hit the slider either.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Swisher I can’t believe how bad you’re playing right now.

  • The Zen Troll

ARod gonna do what ARod does! GRAN’ SALAMI KING IS BACK!!!

  • Effthisnoise

Now don’t give up hits or walks to scrubs

  • EDDARD

Lead isn’t big enough. Either Hiroki or Joba will cough it up. I’d use Robertson and Soriano for 3 innings to get the W.

    • Chilango

And shoot their wad for the O’s series? no way

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Can they please hold onto this lead?

    Pretty please?

    With a cherry on top?

    • Big Members Only (formerly RI$P FTW)

      No. He’ll put Joba in.

  • Mike N

    C’mon! Everybody!

    WE HAVE GOOD MIDDLE RELIEVERS!!!!!!!!!!!

    • The Zen Troll

Best BULLPEN in the game the Yankees have. The road to 28 begins today!

  • JonS

So Girardi actually made a move that made sense. And it worked out. Imagine that…

  • The Zen Troll

Ok . . . Even Zen Troll is going to have a hard time defending the 2, (3), and 4 hitters completely shitting the bed . . . Let’s go Yankees. WOOO!!!

  • Tom

Why is Eppley up in the pen?

After Logan shouldn’t it be Robertson/Soriano for however many outs?

  • Mike N

    YES!

  • Kempire Strikes Back

    I envy the Washington Nationals.

  • Mike N

I have no idea why Eppley and D-Rob would both be warming up.

  • JonS

Umm wouldn’t Robertson be warming with 1 out in the 7th with a lead to pitch in the 8th?

    • Mike N

      Good point.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Lovely.

    A four pitch walk.

    And now we sweat again.

  • Cy Pettitte

    stop walking people, mother fuckers.

  • WhittakerWalt

Here comes the endless matchups bullshit.

  • The Zen Troll

Walk one of the Rays’ fastest players. WOO-HOO! Let’s go PINSTRIPES!

  • Chilango

No way they’re letting Eppley pitch

    • Mike N

Now they’re going to D-Rob with two outs, but I bet they would have pitched Eppley if Logan only managed one out.

  • EDDARD

The big matchup is DRob vs Longoria. Logan should be able to strike out Zobrist with a slider down and in.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Sit the hell down, Zobrist.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Next time without the walk, Boone.

  • Effthisnoise

    Rays are stealing signs

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Wouldn’t Dickerson in left and Swisher at 1B be better defensively.
I don’t really get why they didn’t just PR Dickerson for Pearce last inning.

  • Cy Pettitte

    no high socks?? wtf.

  • Tom

Girardi did this one well…. Logan against Jennings was not a great matchup but he did it to keep Zobrist on the weaker side (righty). Up 2 runs that’s a pretty good tradeoff.

I just have no idea why Eppley was up at all… I shudder to think that if Logan had not gotten the first lefty out, Girardi might have called on Eppley for Jennings.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Low socks DRob tonight.

He must be serious business. As I say that, he allows a base hit.

    Go figure.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Phew.

    Jeter.

  • Cy Pettitte

    CAPTAIN!

  • Mike N

    MVP DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anthony

    Cap’n

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

    Phew! Thanks Cap.

  • Tom

    Panic?!?!?

    Jeter doesn’t panic!

  • Dan in Athens

    Captain Clutch

  • Effthisnoise

Fucking Jete is grown! Hope he didn’t tweak something there

  • The Zen Troll

Grandy with the extra base hit coming up! YEAH, BOYS!

  • Kempire Strikes Back

    KKurtis

  • Cy Pettitte

Grandy should take a day or two off. Dickerson in CF.

  • Dan in Athens

Fuck you Orioles. Keep losing and die.

    • Mike N

I do not advocate for anyone dying, but GO BLUE JAYS!

      • Dan in Athens

Apparently you have never met Peter Angelos.

  • JonS

They need to bat Granderson 8th or 9th. He’s now as much an auto-out as Jones and Ichiro.

  • WhittakerWalt

    God, Granderson sucks ass.

  • Mike N

What an offensively anemic outfield we have right now: Swisher, Grandy, Jones, Raul, Ichiro.

  • Chilango

    Granderson is completely lost.

  • The Zen Troll

Zen Troll says that Granderson needs to be benched for at least a week. The man adds nothing to this lineup or defense. GOOOO YANKEES!

  • Kramerica Industries

    Quick and painless.

    Please, DRob.

  • Effthisnoise

Girardi looks so stressed in the dugout

    • your mom

I’m sure most posters here look the same.

      • Effthisnoise

Lol…I just looked in the mirror, you’re right

    • Mike N

That was awesome the other night when his veins were all popping out of his neck and then he kicked dirt onto home plate after he got tossed. He should really kick some fucking dirt on an umpires shoes.

  • Cy Pettitte

    nasty cut fastball

    • Chilango

      MO-like

  • your mom

    What happened to DRob’s velo?

    • Tom

I sense a new RAB (Mike Axisa) meme listening to the YES crew

Nix with the bunt that turned the season around? (or do I dishonor Wise by suggesting this)

  • Mike N

    YEAH!

  • Kramerica Industries

    Big K there.

Now it’s MFIKY time. No screwing around. Finish those motherfuckers.

  • EDDARD

One inning away from that elusive W. Finish it and we’re back in 1st alone.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Oh shit. Chris Gimenez is in the game.

  • The Zen Troll

Fuck load of strikeouts! WOO-HOO! Watch out, baseball, the Yankees are back!

  • Cy Pettitte

Wade Davis in short relief = wow. big fastball velo and that cutter was nasty.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Johnson-Francisco-Jennings

    MFIKY

  • The Zen Troll

15 K, 2 BB! These Yankees are invincible! Nobody can stop them!

  • your mom

The Ray’s pen looks solid. Their pitching can get them to the WS easily. The offense is another story. I can’t imagine how good they’d be if they actually spent money on free agents.

  • Rocky Road Redemption

Hey guys, our pitcher went less than seven innings and gave up more than three runs and we’re still winning!

The offense SCORED after a setback! I had forgotten what that felt like. IT is so sweet.

    • Tom

This could be Kuroda’s first win in a game where he gave up more than 2ER.

    • Anthony

      +1

  • Mike N

    ONE DOWN!

  • Anthony

Nix’s bunt turned the season around. You heard it here first.

    • The Zen Troll
      • Anthony

awwww damn. You got me, troll

      • Tom

Thank you sir…. but I deserve less credit for botching the whole reply button thing (again)

I must have just been too giddy with all the offense – I was indiscriminately clicking buttons in my euphoria.

        • Anthony

Haha I mess the replies up all the time. What a refreshing game. Hope we can carry this into the next series.

  • Mike N

    TWO DOWN!

  • Kramerica Industries

    Finish them right here.

  • Cy Pettitte

    holy fuck, a win!

  • Dan in Athens

    Finally.

  • Tom

    Nice.

  • your mom

Wow, the Rays’ fan base sucks balls. No wonder they can’t afford any good free agents.

Now let’s go fuck up Baltimore

An UGLY win is STILL a win!!! INVINCIBILITY STARTS NOW!

  • flamingo

    YES.

  • Mike N

    YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That win felt really AWESOME!!!!!!!! Like how when you’ve been sick as a dog and just puking and moaning and groaning and sweating, and then finally you feel halfway decent for a few hours and you know you aren’t gonna die: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kempire Strikes Back

The Yankees need to at least split this series against the O’s.

  • EDDARD

Back in sole possession of 1st. Now to take 3/4 in Baltimore.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

That look in Russell’s eyes…he knows he’s totally gonna bang Meredith tonight.

    • WhittakerWalt

He better not. She’s all mine.

  • Rocky Road Redemption

Looks like that little technical error in the schedule has been corrected.

  • edmond

I am a happy man tonight!!!!!! Thank you for everyone and their prayers!!!!!
