Game 142: Just Win

(Jared Wickerham/Getty)

The Yankees have been atop the AL East — either tied or sole possession — since June 11th, exactly half-a-season ago (81 games). For the fourth time in a week, a loss tonight coupled with an Orioles win would put them into second place for the first time since the finale of the Subway Series in CitiField. Yeah, it’s been a while. At the same time, a win tonight and an Orioles loss will continue to keep New York in first place for at least another day. I much prefer that. Here’s the lineup…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
DH Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
1B Nick Swisher
LF Raul Ibanez
3B Eric Chavez
RF Ichiro Suzuki
Chris Stewart

RHP David Phelps

Tonight’s game is scheduled to start at 7:10pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and ESPN nationally. Try to enjoy.

  1. RetroRob says:

    Just Win?

Hmmm, I think I’ve seen this before!

  2. Kramerica Industries says:

Would really be nice if this team could catch fire the way the Phillies and Brewers have in recent weeks.

At least now the NL playoff picture is as mind-blowing as the AL one.

  3. Andy Pettitte's Fibula (formerly Manny's BanWagon) says:

Let’s hope the Yankees win and some runs into the Red Sox dugout to catch a pop up and crushes Bobby Valentine in the process.

  4. Charles says:

Anyone else wondering why Girardi insists on having Ichiro bat 8th instead of 9th? Look at today’s lineup, you have Raul Ibanez, Eric Chavez, and Ichiro Suzuki back to back to back so late in games you’re just asking for a lefty to face them. Why not simply switch Stewart and Ichiro so you at least break up 1 of the lefties as well as having the fairly hot Ichiro hitting in front of Jeter and give us some vintage Brett Gardener production.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

I agree with batting Ichiro 9th, but having Chris Stewart break up the lefties isn’t going to influence bullpen decisions.

      • IWannaBeAHirokstar says:

You can always pinch hit Martin for Stewart late in a game to break up the lefties though. They would actually have to respect that the way Martin has hit of late.

    • Chilango says:

Look who you’re breaking the lefties up with: Stewart. So what. Too bad there’s no one else.

  5. EDDARD says:

They’ve been alternating wins and losses so tonight will be a win. We finally get to play against a righty so we can sit Pearce, Jones and Nix in favor of Chavez, Ibanez and Ichiro. If this lineup can’t destroy Aaron Cook then they need to blow this whole thing up.

    • Cuso says:

Blow the whole thing up how? You have a bunch of old guys on 1-year deals anyways.

“Blow the whole thing up” is the wrong characterization. There’s nothing to blow up except for the gin-ormous contracts that noone else will take since the Dodgers aren’t buying any more.

  6. CS Yankee says:

Almost any picture with Bobby V looks comical. I hope they extend him in the off-season.

  7. RetroRob says:

What is this nonsense delaying the game? Just tuned in.

  8. Tom says:

“They’ve never been recently just in the role of spoiler” (ESPN on the Red Sox)

Apparently 2010 is not very recent? (8 games out in early Sept and pretty much the entire month) Must they just continue to make shit up to create a storyline?

  9. Kramerica Industries says:

B.J. Upton is sure having a helluva of contract year month.

  10. Cy Pettitte says:

can’t wait to watch them beat the ball into the ground repeatedly for 3 hours.

  11. Cy Pettitte says:

wow Granderson even managed to strike out against Cook. impressive.

  12. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Just had to get K’d by Cook, didn’t you Kurtis.

  13. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Granderson strikes out even against Aaron Cook.

  14. jon says:

would have never guessed gandy would strike out vs cook

  15. C says:

O/U 2.5 GIDPs today for the yanks vs cook

  16. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Cy Cook

  17. JobaWockeeZ says:

    #tradeGrandy #keepSwish

  18. jon says:

legit #3 guy? wow ill take that

  19. Hummingbird S. says:

let’s just hope Phelps can last 5 innings while keeping us in the game.

  20. Widget says:

How quick of a hook will Girardi have tonight when Phelps gets in trouble?

  21. McLovin says:

Just watch Aaron Cook throw a shutout.

  22. Widget says:

Nothing is stopping the Orioles. My God can someone please slow them down. Tampa is no match.

    • Cy Pettitte says:

they should sign Clemens, he’d probably be the WS MVP.

    • RetroRob says:

They’re not for real. We’ve been told so.

They’ll come back to earth…in November.

    • jjyank says:

Seriously, what the hell is going on down there? Or really, “over” there, since I live in DC. But for real. I’ve been very dismissive all year about the O’s, but they just won’t go away, run differential be damned. I know that luck and statistical corrections don’t have to happen in a 6 month span, things don’t always even out in a certain time frame. But still, damn annoying.

      • RetroRob says:

This will only inflate the legend of Showalter, which is nonsense. That said, I remain a huge Showalter fan. He’s the best manager the Yankees had in the past twenty years. Sorry, Joe. (T)

        • jjyank says:

I was a bit young for that time (my baseball consciousness began around 1995, lucky me) so I can’t really comment on him much. I’m just glad TMITN stopped posting.

          • Kramerica Industries says:

I’ve read this blog and the comments sections on an assorted basis for nearly four years now.

            Umm, who is TMITN?

              • RetroRob says:

Ha. I was wondering who that was too. I’m disturbed this might be an area where TMITN and I agree. Are we sure he’s gone? Usually when a regular poster disappears I assume he’s taken on a new identity.

                • jjyank says:

He apparently came back the other day under a new handle, linked to a thread of his rantings, and Mike replied do it strongly insinuating that it was the same IP address as TMITN. Sorry, I like short hand.

Anyway, I’m sure Buck is a good manager. That he wasn’t was never the argument against him. But read through that link and tell me that he is at all rational, intelligent, or comprehensible.

                  • Kramerica Industries says:

That just threw me because his name already contained an acronym.

                  • RetroRob says:

Oh, I agree. That’s why I said this season will only add to the legend (which I mean sarcastically). Yet I’m not going to knock, Buck. I believe he’s one of the better managers in the game. I think most managers who are hired already have a level of skill that teams have determined make them MLB managers, and thus by the time it’s all said and done don’t have a major impact on a team’s win total. They win some, they lose some. Yet there are some managers who I believe are net positive in the win column, and there are some who will be a net negative. The difference between hiring the bad manager and the good manager can add up to a number of wins. Showalter to me is in that camp who will add wins. Girardi to me is in the neutral camp. I’d rather have Showalter managing the Yankees, but at least Joe is not costing the Yankees wins (I think!)

  23. Hummingbird S. says:

    hack-at-everything Robbie

  24. Tom says:

Cano needs to not try to pull the ball against a sinkerballer. He’s going to ground out 4 times with that approach.

He should be driving popups off the wall.

  25. Dale Mohorcic says:

Soooo, I’m rooting for the Rays tonight, right?

  26. JobaWockeeZ says:

It’s AARON COOK. Emphasis because he’s supposed to suck more than the Yankees.

  27. Kramerica Industries says:

    Ciriaco makes the play?

    Of course!

  28. jon says:

    only the fucking yankees

  29. Hummingbird S. says:

they are terrible and unlucky.. great combination

    • Matt says:

One play does not mean a team is unlucky. They are creating their own bad luck by repeatedly letting opposing pitchers getting away with mistakes right down the middle in hitters’ counts.

  30. Karl Krawfid says:

    Stop embarrassing me Yankees.

  31. Dale Mohorcic says:

Raul is going to faint during this at bat.

  32. Matt says:

2-1 flat sinker right down the middle, and Ibanez fouls it off.

This swing is the epitome of this Yankees offense lately. Opposing pitchers are feeding them mistake after mistake and they don’t hit them. Other teams are not missing the mistakes of Yankees pitchers.

  33. Widget says:

Cook sucks, lucky for him though the Yankees lineup sucks even worse.

  34. Hummingbird S. says:

I wonder what’s the mystery with Cook. I haven’t seem a hard hit ball against him and he throws one motherfucking pitch, a sinker that’s not even that fast. Pathetic job as usual by these chokers.

  35. Dale Mohorcic says:

Bad night to be a worm.

  36. Tom says:

At what point do they stop rolling out Jones/Ibanez?

At this point Dickerson’s defense alone is probably worth it (and certainly against righty starters who he can hit)

  37. Chilango says:

Phelps throws a 3-2 curve for the K. nice.

  38. Marcy says:

Phelps looks too good for them to not support him.

  39. Matt says:

In the first 117 games this year, the Yankees hit 180 HR in 3982 AB (22.1 AB/HR).

In the last 24 games, the Yankees have hit 30 HR in 800 AB (26.7 AB/HR).

They are substituting HR for 2B to some extent, except with a .235 BA over the same stretch it’s hard to drive those guys in.

  40. Kramerica Industries says:

    Ball four my ass.

  41. Hummingbird S. says:

    from 0-2 to a walk. That’s a Yankee special!

  42. RkyMtnYank says:

Saw the Ump come talk to Phelps after the inning, hopefully they worked things out.

  43. Cy Pettitte says:

good to see Chavez make some solid contact

  44. Hummingbird S. says:

    look at that, a hit!

  45. Tom says:

Hey look a lefty that doesn’t try to pull the ball hammers Cook and doesn’t ground out to 2nd or 1st.

  46. Cy Pettitte says:

bunt Ichiro so Stewart can hit…..

  47. WhittakerWalt says:

  48. Tom says:

This would be a good time for a Stewart BABIP special

  49. Cy Pettitte says:

  50. Hummingbird S. says:

what a surprise, they will strand a runner at second with zero outs.

  51. Marcy says:

This is depressing – please, Derek

  52. Hummingbird S. says:

Derek has to hit that pitch… high FB

  53. WhittakerWalt says:

John and Suzyn should really stop comparing Jeter to Willie Mays.

  54. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  55. Hummingbird S. says:

fuck this team.. they are all chokers

  56. Kramerica Industries says:

Chavez never even left 2nd base.

0-3, so far, with RISP. Yankees are on top of their game.

  57. Ron says:

    Wow crazy movement

  58. JobaWockeeZ says:

    It’s Aaron Cook.

  59. oldmanalex says:

man, im tired of an offence that is headlined by a 38yr old shortstop. no knocks against jeter, but fuck…. can any of these young people with big paychecks step the fuck up.

  60. The Angry Troll says:

Yankees are the worst team in baseball. At least the Red Sox have the excuse of waving the white flag on the season.

  61. Effthisnoise says:

The latest chapter in the nightmare: Aaron Cook has game of his life against Yanks.

  62. Hall and Nokes says:

Lemme guess, we’ve squandered opportunities and Baltimore just got a 2-run homer from Wieters.

  63. Dale Mohorcic says:

Is there some new way to root for the Yankees that allows me to celebrate their futility? Some sabermetric paradox that will allow me to enjoy watching baseball again through making me a fan of failure? Something? Anything?

    • Effthisnoise says:

Shots every RISP fail. Oh wait ive been doing that already

    • TheLastClown says:

You could watch non-Yankees games with high Fangraphs NERD scores.

This was you can enjoy baseball without all of the emotional baggage.

(Un?)Fortunately, as Yankees fans we have to slog through stressful times like these, think of it as earning the joy you feel when they crush.

  64. RetroRob says:

Phelps looks good, hasn’t tripped on the mound. The offense, however…

  65. Kramerica Industries says:

This team is 36 of their last 169 with RISP.

So glad RISPFAIL has come back, with a vengeance.

  66. RetroRob says:

Cone talking about Phelps; Kay sleeping talks about Cook.

  67. Hummingbird S. says:

nice game by Phelps.. great effort that will be wasted by the offense.

  68. Dale Mohorcic says:

Does Phelps’ glove seem unusually small to anyone else?

  69. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Andruw Jones is my guess.

  70. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Tony Conigliaro

  71. Mike N says:

    YEAH! Cuuuuuuuurtis!!!!!!!!!

  72. Hummingbird S. says:

Granderson! It’s yet another solo HR, but at this point we take anything

  73. EDDARD says:

  74. Mike Axisa says:

    Gotta be Conigliaro.

  75. Kramerica Industries says:

Biggest hit Granderson has gotten in weeks.

Don’t stop here. Pound this motherfucker.

  76. JobaWockeeZ says:

The best of the 3 outcomes of Grandy.

  77. Tom says:

Alright Phelps… you got your run, make it stand up.

    Yankees offense

  78. McLovin says:

    And boom goes the dynamite

  79. Dale Mohorcic says:

    turn, worm, TURN!

  80. Effthisnoise says:

This is what they should be doing to Aaron cook

  81. Tom says:

Would love to see Girardi hit and run here.

  82. jjyank says:

Damn, I underestimated the delay. I knew Grandy was hitting that before Cook even threw the first pitch.

  83. Chilango says:

How bout a hit and run?

  84. Hummingbird S. says:

  85. Mike N says:

    CANO!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  86. sevrox says:

…used to get excited when the Yanks would score first…

  87. Cy Pettitte says:

finally looking like the 6 ERA guy he is. thank you offense.

  88. EDDARD says:

    The offense is coming alive!

  89. Kramerica Industries says:

    Keep ‘em coming.

    Pound this motherfucker.

  90. Cuso says:

    Congrats on 30!

    First time right?

  91. Effthisnoise says:

    Career high for Robbie

  92. RetroRob says:

    Too many HRs.

The Yankees having a lead means it will only be more painful when they lose.

Thought I’d momentarily join in the general gestalt of the last few weeks.

Now back to our reguarly scheduled programming.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

You may be joking or not but again the argument wasn’t too many home runs. It’s stop living or dying by the home run. It could be totally wrong but no one has ever said too many HRs.

Seriously it kinda needs to die.

    • Cuso says:

Nah. They win this one. If they only went up 1-0 and left the bases loaded they’d lose. Bombs away leaving bases clear – they win.

  93. JobaWockeeZ says:

Cano when he gets a 100 million dollar contract might be the only hitter who only hit 30 HRs in a season once.

  94. Hummingbird S. says:

    swisher, still sucks

    • VCR1111 says:

Look on the bright side…if the Yanks make the playoffs Swisher should be out of this slump…we may have August Swisher in the playoffs. Not bad.

  95. jjyank says:

YES Robbie. Thank you. Fucking thank you.

  96. BENICIO DEL TORO says:

Okay this is what I like to see

  97. Tom says:

Good to see the lefties starting to go the other way on the outside stuff.

  98. Dale Mohorcic says:

    Crawford’s never even hit 20.

  99. Hummingbird S. says:

Ibanez and Ichiro should not be playing ahead of Dickerson. Unfortunately Girardi has a love affair with Ibanez.

  100. Kramerica Industries says:

Chavez seems to hit a TON of doubles at Fenway.

  101. Hummingbird S. says:

fuck this, I’d PH for Stewart here… they need more runs.

  102. Cuso says:

    HAHAHASAAA EF YOU Ciricrocko!!!!

  103. Bartolo's Colon says:

oh god, ciriaco is pissed now, great.

  104. Kramerica Industries says:

For once, Ciriaco doesn’t make the play.

  105. Cy Pettitte says:

holy shit Ciriaco didn’t make the play? mind = blown.

  106. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Pedro screwed up.

    Good omen for the Yankees.

  107. Effthisnoise says:

The universe may be catching up to ciriaco

  108. Tom says:

Well if nothing else that clears the pitcher’s spot in the lineup.

  109. Hummingbird S. says:

of course he hits it hard but Ciriaco is right there. Fuck this motherfucker.

  110. VCR1111 says:

    Shut down inning?? I’m scared!

  111. Bartolo's Colon says:

3 runs is not enough. phelps has been pitching way to well. sad that we can’t feel comfortable without a lead over 6 runs…

  112. EDDARD says:

Phelpsy needs to give us 6-7. If Joe doesn’t bring in Robertson we’ll have a chance to hold the lead. I hope he uses Joba in that set up role tonight to see if he can take over that job going forward.

  113. Hummingbird S. says:

How long before Phelps gives it all back? Can he get a shutdown inning?

  114. Stratman9652 says:

Ciriaco is gonna hit a grand slam right here. Doesn’t matter that there is nobody on base, I’m calling a grand slam.

  115. Chilango says:

    Fuck you Ciriaco sit down.

  116. Kramerica Industries says:

Why would Tito want to go back to the Red Sox?

  117. Bartolo's Colon says:

ciriaco can go 0 for his next 19 and still be hitting 300 against the yanks

  118. VT Yankee Fan says:

Has Ciriaco ever been put out twice in a row by the Yanks?

  119. Hall and Nokes says:

Ciriaco’s BABIP against the Yankees down to .820.

  120. Kramerica Industries says:

    Can’t stop Pedroia.

  121. Hummingbird S. says:

here it go.. time to give it back.

  122. Effthisnoise says:

    Of course. This fucking guy

  123. Tom says:

Damn – had him struck out on that 1-2 pitch.

Even Nomar led out an audible “oh” after that pitch was called a ball.

  124. Chilango says:

Here we go shut down inning. Fuck

  125. Cy Pettitte says:

wow this sis just fucking hilarious. can anyone give us a fucking shut down inning?

  126. Kramerica Industries says:

    Yep, no shutdown inning.

It’s fricken’ impossible for this team.

  127. Bartolo's Colon says:

this team sucks in every way imaginable. not one pitcher can give us a shutdown inning. can’t wait for andy

  128. The Angry Troll says:

So does the lack of a shutdown inning trend continue or not?

  129. Karl Krawfid says:

    Nice shut down inning

  130. Hummingbird S. says:

    Fucking Phelps…

  131. VCR1111 says:

    Add ShutdownInningFail to RISPFail. :(

  132. Effthisnoise says:

Let’s start worrying about the tree on first base so Ross can groove a ball over the monster

  133. Mike N says:

    Huge DP!

  134. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    more runs please

  135. Hummingbird S. says:

at least he only gave one back. Gotta save some misery for the later innings.

  136. jjyank says:

I had horrible images of Ross tying the game there. Thanks, Phelps.

  137. Tom says:

    Eh, I’ll take it.

He had ratboy struckout, the ump just squeezed him on that 1-2 pitch before the double. The Loney single was just a groundball; if it’s at some one there’s a decent chance that’s a scoreless inning.

  138. The Angry Troll says:

I think this is a common pattern for Yankee-born pitchers, right? Of all the hot-to-trot prospects that’ve climbed through the pinstriped farm it seems that all of them are clearly capable of going once through the order, but once that ONE becomes crooked and the pitchers starts seeing guys for the 2nd or 3rd time . . . It’s a whole other story. I’m sure this phenomenon could be said of many pitchers but I feel as though it plagues the Yankee blood particularly much.

    • jjyank says:

Maybe, but how many “hot to trot” prospects are we talking about here? There’s Hughes, okay. Phelps was never a top prospect, ditto Nova. They were projected as back end guys. Joba is in the bullpen, but was actually fairly successful as a starter.

  139. Hummingbird S. says:

we will need at least 5 more runs to win this game

  140. Cy Pettitte says:

do we really want to get into the bullpen instead of having Cook in?

  141. Hummingbird S. says:

    unfortunate… just missed it

  142. Chilango says:

Heads up baserunning by the Capt

  143. Tom says:

2-0 curve…. just take it Robbie.

  144. Mike N says:

    Fuck. What a goddamn play!

  145. Hummingbird S. says:

so thats how you play D up the middle.

  146. FIPster Doofus says:

Nice D by Rey Ordonez Jr.

  147. Karl Krawfid says:

    Keep on joggin’ Cano.

  148. Kramerica Industries says:

    Holy shit.

  149. Hummingbird S. says:

Just in case you are not keeping score, that’s 0-7 with RISP in this game. Chokers all the way.

  150. Cy Pettitte says:

wow, I really thought 3 runs would win this. not.

  151. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  152. Kramerica Industries says:

Gonna need a lot more runs in this game.

  153. Hummingbird S. says:

please get Phelps out of there immediately. He fucking blows.

  154. Karl Krawfid says:

    lol @ this team.

  155. Karl Krawfid says:

Keep throwing fastballs down and in to lefties.

  156. BENICIO DEL TORO says:

If the starter coughs up the lead again I swear to god I will choke a bitch

  157. Kramerica Industries says:

    Nice strike out.

    Still need another non-run-scoring out.

  158. Kramerica Industries says:

One more of those, Mr. Phelps.

  159. The Angry Troll says:

Haven’t the opposing teams been traditionally scoring with 2 outs?

  160. Chilango says:

Phelps is fucking around with a AAA guy.

  161. Mike N says:

    Hellz, YEHA!!!!

  162. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Nice job Phelps!!

  163. Defensive Indifference says:

  164. Hummingbird S. says:

    fuck yeah! nice escape!

  165. Kramerica Industries says:

Brilliant job by Phelps to get out of that unscathed.

Hopefully he has another inning in him.

  166. Karl Krawfid says:

    Got to give em credit

  167. EDDARD says:

That was the turning point right there. Dave Phelps is a big game pitcher, indeed.

  168. The Angry Troll says:

  169. Bartolo's Colon says:

ugh another wasted leadoff triple, wait that was the red sox? what is going on here?

  170. Anthony says:

Great job getting out of that jam! Phelps has really regained his composure. BoSox looking very Yankee-likee that inning.

  171. Kramerica Industries says:

OT: Cardinals swept in San Diego.

The Phillies, incredibly, are now only three games out of the 2nd NL Wild Card. Brewers can also move within three with a win tonight.

Seriously, both teams were sellers at the deadline, and have come from absolutely nowhere to be right in the middle of the NL race. Wow.

  172. WhittakerWalt says:

    Way to go, Phelpsie!

  173. jjyank says:

Love the Phelps fist pump. He earned that. Let’s get him some breathing room, boys!

  174. RkyMtnYank says:

Amazing how fair weather you people are. Nice job David, keep mowing em down!! It’s like a pitcher can never give up a single hit, walk or anything. The expectations are completely unrealistic.

    • jjyank says:

      Welcome to the internet.

    • Mike N says:

This is par for the RAB course. As soon as the starting pitcher gives up a single run and allows another man on base, many people are calling for him to be pulled immediately. This is, of course, delusional. You can’t just pull your starter at the first hint of trouble every game, or within a week, your bullpen will be toast.

      • RkyMtnYank says:

Exactly, the team starts playing not to lose after scoring only a few runs early. Playing not to lose will not help you win games.

    • Anthony says:

This is true especially with our the pen has been playing lately. I think people react that way because of the troubles the starting pitching has had lately. I love Phelps, but he hasn’t lasted very long in his previous few starts. To be honest, no one will ever be 100% sure on when to take a pitcher out. That inning with the lead-off triple could have easily gotten worse.

  175. Mike N says:

    Bring home this fucking RISP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  176. Kramerica Industries says:

Yankees are 1-19 with RISP in this series.

Hopefully they can actually plate a run or two here.

  177. Cy Pettitte says:

    please PH for Ibanez.

  178. MannyGeee says:

So the love feast on ESPN from (of all people) Nomah and Schillling….. Fucking disgusting.

  179. Karl Krawfid says:

    Bunt really?

  180. MannyGeee says:

Shit… We have to be the worst bunting team in the league…

  181. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Professional Baseball Player not bunting very professionally.

  182. Tom says:

Ready to applaud Girardi for pinch hitting…

And then he calls for the bunt.

  183. Karl Krawfid says:

    Way to go Joe G.

Playing for 1 run and you might get nothing.

  184. MannyGeee says:

Uh oh… Andruw Jones’ music is playing

Looks like MacGehee might get seem playing time tonight after all…

  185. Brian S. says:

    Intentionally walking Andruw Jones? LOLOLOLOL

  186. good evening all…thought I’d stop in for a bit before I left work for the night. I tried to avoid the game tonight, just to give myself a break, and was watching Game of Thrones. Epic show, but eventually I longed for the docile tones of John and Suzyn. I could easily look up a game review, but how’d the runs score?

  187. Tom says:

    This is ridiculous.

  188. Brian S. says:

    PH Melky Mesa for Ichiro?

  189. Kramerica Industries says:

    0-9 now.

This team is really pissing itself badly right now.

  190. Karl Krawfid says:

Joe G needs to take this NL style baseball back to the NL.

  191. EDDARD says:

Why did Joe PH for Chavy who has two doubles tonight but let Ichiro hit for himself? Girardi ball.

  192. Karl Krawfid says:

  193. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    The incompetence is astounding.

  194. Kramerica Industries says:

1-22 now in this series, and they’ve only batted for 15 innings.

  195. MannyGeee says:

Chris Stewart is a waste of laundry… Seriously, he is the worst

  196. WhittakerWalt says:

Make sure you waste that leadoff double!

  197. Hummingbird S. says:

How do you PH for Chavez and Ibanez but let Ichiro and Stewart hit? FUCK YOU GIRARDI!

  198. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

I think Girardi is just making sure he doesn’t need to use Cervelli under any circumstance.

  199. WhittakerWalt says:

Are any of the YES guys still talking about what a diamond in the rough Chris Stewart is?

  200. Tom says:

How the hell does he let Stewart hit? He has 2 catchers on the bench.

so after a lead off double he had:

    - PH bunting
    - PH walking (who would have been pitched around had the bunt worked)
    - Ichiro against a lefty
    - Chris Stewart being Chris Stewart

He wasn’t managing for 1 run, he was managing for zero runs there.

  201. MannyGeee says:

So Phelpsie? Big time stone face…. Love how cool as a cucumber he is

  202. Chilango says:

kind of feels like we’re down by two, not up by two

  203. EDDARD says:

And it’s not like Joe doesn’t have ballplayers to use. He could PH Martin, PH Nunez, leave Chavy in because he has 2 doubles. PH for Ichiro, PH for Ibanez, and PH for Stewart. That’s why you have the call ups, Joe!

  204. Hall and Nokes says:

What kind of ball will Andruw misplay for 2 runs?

  205. YanksFanInBeantown says:

Respect for Pedroia? Fuck that noise. The textbook definition of a product of his park.

    • MannyGeee says:

Ha, I was just thinking that. Of all the players to respect in the league, Pedroia is not that dude. Ortiz all day long, but not Brett’s brother.

  206. Bartolo's Colon says:

    time to steal

  207. Mike N says:

    Another huge DP!

  208. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

At least Phelps can handle Pedro.

  209. Kramerica Industries says:

    Holy shit.

Not only one, but two outs off Ciriaco. Miracles do happen, I guess.

  210. EDDARD says:

They finally got Cyrano. Phelps truly is a big game pitcher and he’s showing it tonight. None of the other Yankee starters has given us a start this good.

  211. Chilango says:

  212. Hall and Nokes says:

This is making up for all the outs Ciriaco should have made all summer.

  213. Bartolo's Colon says:

what is going on here, ciriaco will make up with it with 5 triples tomorrow. seriously, does anyonme know if anyone ever has had a better avg against the yanks through 40 ab’s? he’s got to be up there

  214. Cuso says:

    Now THAT was sweet.

    Huge DP

  215. brian says:

ichiro’s defense has been non-impactful for the yankees… kinda important since he is .290/.310/.400

  216. RkyMtnYank says:

    Fuck Girardi!!!!!!!

  217. Mike N says:

    C’mon, LOOGY!

  218. FIPster Doofus says:

  219. Cy Pettitte says:

    holy shit Swish thank you.

  220. Chilango says:

    Rapada catches a break.

  221. Anthony says:

Great outing from Phelps. Feels like forever since a starter went that long. Nice play by Swish!

  222. MannyGeee says:

I woulda let Phelpsie finish the inning, but Swish makes Girardi look like a genius there

  223. Leg-End says:

    Swisher with the Tex play.

  224. bring buck back says:

Top of 6th was such an amazing fail. RISP fail, bunt fail, Ichiro fail, and most of all, Girardi fail. Seriously…why is Andruw Jones in the game, ever? Especially to PH for Chavez, who was the ONLY hitter who realized the FIRST time through the order not to pull against Cook, and who is actually good at baseball so can hit pitchers from both sides. And I saw Ichiro’s double-play ball from a mile away. But of course Girardi won’t PH for Ichiro because Girardi has no idea what he is doing and should have been fired before he was even hired.

oh and way to go swish bailing out girardi for his awful confused pitching change

  225. Tom says:

Nice job to get around 2 hits that inning but this is where the offense failure is huge.

If it’s 4-1, 5-1 Phelps is not pulled and the Yankees aren’t patching together 1-2 innings. This is what happens when you completely botch pretty much EVERY decision over a 4 batter stretch after a leadoff double (Jones was the only reasonable move that inning)

  226. DC says:

Has Eddard proclaimed Swisher the top defensive 1st baseman in baseball?

  227. Cy Pettitte says:

sending a thank you card to Mrs. Pedroia ASAP.

  228. Karl Krawfid says:

Aceves looks sick man Jeez he lost a lot of weight.

  229. MannyGeee says:

Wow, I would totally bone Pedroias pregnant wife.. Good looking pregnant broad

  230. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Congrats to Dustin Pedroia on what’s sure to be an annoyingly gritty child.

    • MannyGeee says:

      well played

    • Defensive Indifference says:

I fully expect him to play second base tomorrow. From a rocking chair. While breastfeeding his infant. From his knees.

    • Marcy says:

Actually, I hope all goes well for them. Their little boy was in a full body cast for most of the 1st year of his life. Hopefully, things are better this time – it’s totally separate from on the field.

And the gross Geee above…you’re disgusting – but you already know that.

      • AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I absolutely wish all the best for them. I can’t stand that little bastard, but it’s not Pedroia’s fault — and certainly not his wife or kids’ — that I hate the Sox just a little too much.

  231. Brian S. says:

Derek Jetah is a stahting shortstawp

  232. Alkaline says:

I will take that outing from Mr. Phelps every single time.

  233. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    The Grandy Man does!

  234. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Insurance runs!!!

  235. Cy Pettitte says:

    Grandy!! awesome. thanks Ace.

  236. Kramerica Industries says:

    Get outta here!

  237. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    The Grandy Man Can!

  238. Pat D says:

So…anyone tempted to make a Brett Pedroia joke?

    Yea, me neither.

  239. MannyGeee says:

Granderson 3 feet away from a 3 homer night

  240. Anthony says:

    Grandy man

  241. RkyMtnYank says:

  242. Mike N says:

  243. Hall and Nokes says:

Would probably have 3 inYSIII tonite

  244. Brian S. says:

Granderson is being disrespectful to Pesky!

  245. MannyGeee says:

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Alex. I miss the the old you that used to hit

  246. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Kind of amazing that Granderson has hit 37 homers, but this is just his second multi-homer game of the year.

  247. MannyGeee says:

I think Granderson is the kind of guy who reads on the plane. Like, real books, not like 50 Shades or whatever the fuck…

  248. Tom says:

Schilling repeating the “you don’t score in the playoffs with HRs” meme. (Making the ESPN broadcast complete)

They showed a graphic of most runs via HR – the top 3 (NY, CHI, BAL) would make 3 of the 5 playoff teams.

    • Tom says:

Again… Girardi is asleep at the wheel.

If he’s going to bring in Logan why not bring him and turn Salty around to his much weaker side?

He’s trying to steal outs again and now has Eppley against a lefty Salty and Logan against a right handed pinch hitter.

  249. Mike N says:

It would be great to bring in another run this inning.

    Joba in the bottom?

  250. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Great AB by Swisher. Way to force Aceves to throw your pitch.

  251. Cy Pettitte says:

why is Bobby smelling the ball? WTF

  252. MannyGeee says:

Oh schilling is a fat fuck with a big mouth. I admire the fact that that Nomar still looks like an athlete…

  253. Mike says:

Prob pointed out before, but Yankees I believe, and correct me if I’m wrong, have alternated wins and losses ever since the 2nd game of the Tampa series.

Someone mentioned on another site, maybe Mike mentioned it in an article already or someone mentioned it here, the Yankees have not win 2 games in a row since August 14th and 15th. That’s not Bad, that’s BAD.

  254. Chilango says:

Matchup in the 7th then Joba to Soriano?

  255. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Good thing they’re hitting HR’s today.

  256. MannyGeee says:

Huh… Camden yards looking a little emptier with the rays in town…

    • AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I do think that Baltimore will start filling their stadium again if they can win consistently. It’s tough for a lot of people to understand how badly Angelos nuked that franchise.

The Rays, however, are a lost cause.

      • MannyGeee says:

If not now, then never. This team is on the cusp of making the playoffs for the first time since Ripkin, and they can’t fill one of the best parks in America with $10 tickets. I pay $6 to see the AA fisher cats.

        If not now, then never

  257. Cy Pettitte says:

Rays are Yankee-like tonight in their RISP fail.

    • Anthony says:

Of course. They’ll do that for the rest of the games against the O’s but when they come play us, every player in their lineup magically becomes Miguel Cabrera.

      Only slightly exaggerating

  258. Mike N says:

    Hmm. Eppley.

  259. Brian S. says:

    Fuck, not Eppley.

  260. Kramerica Industries says:

By all means, keep giving up extra base hits to Saltalamacchia.

  261. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

You mean the ROOGY can’t get out lefties?

  262. Chilango says:

    Take Eppley out NOW.

  263. Kramerica Industries says:

Still looking like there won’t be a shutdown inning.

    This team is something else.

  264. Chilango says:

    Nava for fuck’s sake.

  265. Karl Krawfid says:

Mix and match, Mix and match.

    Fucking kill me.

  266. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Salty is slow as hell, but that’s still embarrassingly bad baserunning.

I won’t complain about Thompson for a little while, that’s for sure.

  267. MannyGeee says:

For the love of all things holy… Cut Stewart, leave Cervelli in AAA, send Martin wherever… Give me Jose Molina back.

  268. Brian S. says:

    The fuck is this shit?

  269. BENICIO DEL TORO says:

Assuming we make the playoffs, which is still far from guaranteed, hopefully we won’t be seeing Eppley, Rapada, or any of our other crappy middle relievers will see any playing time.

And just as I’m saying that, Logan gives up a booming double. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit nervous right now…

  270. RkyMtnYank says:

So mix and matching means you leave Logan in to face a righty and you bring Joba in to face a lefty. Yes, well done Joe.

  271. Tom says:

Again, Girardi is asleep at the wheel.

If he’s going to bring in Logan why not bring him and turn Salty around to his much weaker side? He’s trying to steal outs again and now has Eppley against a lefty Salty and Logan against a right handed pinch hitter.

Basically he once again gets the worst possible matchup possible.

It’s incomprehensible how truly bad he manages with an expanded roster…I didn’t think he could top the top of the 6th, but he’s trying to do it in the bottom of the 7th.

  272. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Girardi loves to mix and match, but is completely flummoxed by the back to back switch hitters.

(Hint Joe: maybe try a non-OOGY)

  273. Kramerica Industries says:

    Eh, whatever.

Not gonna gripe about getting the out there.

  274. Cy Pettitte says:

this is such bullshit. come on.

  275. Kramerica Industries says:

    And that’s what CANNOT happen.

    Christ Almighty with this team.

  276. Marcy says:

    OY! Joba & his slider

  277. WhittakerWalt says:

Joba’s back to hanging the slider, I see.

  278. MannyGeee says:

    Well… I guess Jobas un-back again… Bummer

  279. JobaWockeeZ says:

Next time get the out at home. it’s way too frekaing early to play the outs > runs game.

  280. Mike N says:

Oh, crap! Get this fucking third out!

  281. Karl Krawfid says:

    Way to go Yankee pitching.

4 run lead down to 2.

  282. MannyGeee says:

Jobas mad now… That’s pretty cool

  283. FIPster Doofus says:

Is Robertson available for the eighth?

  284. Chilango says:

Charge those runs to Girardi. Clueless. Fuck.

  285. Jobber back out for the 8th? Cause there is no way Robertson should be pitching tonight, he threw a lot of high leverage pitches over almost 2 innings last night.

  286. Mike says:

Now who the heck pitches the 8th? I really hope Joe doesn’t do a 6 out save.

Of course a couple of Yankees runs solves some problems, but easier said than done

  287. Tom says:

This shit inning is on Girardi.

If he brings in Logan to face Salty this might be a 1-2-3 inning.

By not doing that he compounded the issue as if Logan was in the game, as soon as Nava is PH for with a righty he could have then brought in Joba (which would have forced another PH’r or got a favorable matchup)

All this because he was trying to steal one FUCKING out from Eppley. It’s beyond annoying now and moved into incompetence.

    Salty lefty: .768
    Salty righty: .583

So clearly you have him hit lefty against Eppley… idiot…

  288. MannyGeee says:

ESPN2 has their camera reeeeeeal tight and their mics podded way up for the illusion of crowd noise. Wow, how things change in 96 hours

  289. Tom says:

    Why is Jones even in?

If only the Yankees had a lefty on the bench who plays good defense (and will be put in ANYWAY!)

  290. MannyGeee says:

Jose Iglecias gets that ball….. Asshole

  291. MannyGeee says:

Hooray for all you Dickerson fanboys…. Guess who gets to run into a DP tonight????!?!

  292. Widget says:

Is this team ever capable of a damn shutdown inning?

  293. MannyGeee says:

    Saltalamaccia…. Defensive catcher

  294. Mike N says:

    Finally a decent fucking bunt!

  295. Mike says:

No Russell Martin to pinch hit?

  296. ULTRA SMALL BALL, error, stolen base, sacrifice.

  297. MannyGeee says:

Great bunt by Ichiro…. I mean, a beauty!

  298. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Ichiro bunt against a RHP to get to Chris Stewart.

    Are you fucking kidding me?

  299. Mike says:

Whoa whoa, Joe doing a safety squeeze? Guess he stole Joe Maddon’s binder tonight.

  300. Joe G: dude wtf? you do all this small ball stuff, then leave it to Chris “I shouldn’t be in the majors” Stewart to get the run in?

  301. Mike N says:

    Insurance RUNS!!!!!!!!!! DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  302. Mike says:

    GIDP coming up

If not, then a single or bloop double to right

  303. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    And there goes the season.

  304. Kramerica Industries says:

You GOTTA be fucking kidding me.

  305. Cy Pettitte says:

christ are you kidding me? If Jeter is hurt….

  306. Mike N says:

    OH, NO!!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED???????

  307. God no…just please, no. please for the love of baseball not Jeter too..

  308. Marcy says:

    No, no, no

  309. MannyGeee says:

Shitshitshitshitshit. Jeter limping. He came up lame when he slid into 2nd last AB but seemed to walk it off.

  310. Karl Krawfid says:

    Fucking Yankees.

Hitting into double plays and getting hurt.

  311. Brian S. says:

So that’s why Cano doesn’t hustle.

  312. Tom says:

    Dammit… this is beyond absurd.

Stewart shouldn’t have hit and once he magically reached put in Nunez, have him run and take the GIDP away

This is about as poorly a game can possibly be managed. The only way this can get worse is to get Lowe into the game.

    • DC says:

Listening to you, I would think the Yanks were getting clobbered.

      • Tom says:

The only reason this game is remotely close is because Girardi is an idiot. It should be about 7-2 by now and instead the bullpen is going to be overworked and short for tomorrow because Girardi is clueless

Nearly every move since the 6th inning on has resulted in pretty much the least favorable matchup you can get.

The Yankees are winning in spite of Girardi; it’s frustrating that he is having such a negative impact on this game when the Yankees should be cruising and the bullpen should be getting rest.

        • DC says:

So the RISP failures are Girardi’s fault? I didn’t see his name in the line up.

          • Tom says:

Yes, when Girardi is putting the worst possible option up in those situations.

He pinch hit Nix to bunt…. which took the bat out of Jones hand…. which led to Ichiro hitting against a lefty… which led to Stewart. That sequence took the bat out of his 2 pinch hitters and left the two VERY WORST options hitting (Ichiro against a lefty and Stewart against… anyone)

He had Eppley pitching to a switch hitter who has an OPS 200 points better lefty and is SUB .600 hitting righty. Sure Eppley gave up the hit, but Girardi choosing the worst matchup possible wasn’t a factor?

He had Jones leading off against a righty (got fortunate with a walk), then with one out he has Chris Stewart trying to get a runner home? With 2 catchers on the bench?

So yes the manager owns some of it when he is consistently getting the worst matchup possible. The RISP failures are Girardi’s fault when he is consistently getting his worst hitters with the platoon DISadvantage up in those situations.

            • Tom says:

Excuse me, the Jones AB was an error not a walk.

            • DC says:

              Girardi doesn’t swing the bat.

              • Tom says:

So by extension if he pinch hit Kuroda for Stewart, it would be Kuroda’s fault for not getting the run in.

                Because Girardi wasn’t hitting, right?

                • DC says:

                  Reductio ad absurdum.

                  • Tom says:

Latin for Girardi is a moron?

Your argument is Girardi isn’t hitting. Have you seen Stewarts slash line? Not all that much better than a pitcher.

I can’t believe you would defend his moves in this game and say “well the players should have done better, not Girardi’s fault”

Why pinch hit at all then? It’s the hitter’s fault/success, what’s the point of trying to get a favorable matchup? (this is a serious question)

  313. Jag says:

May I just say “FUCK” if Jeter is hurt

  314. MannyGeee says:

    Precautionary…. Please say precautionary

  315. DZ says:

If Jeter is out for longer than a week this season is over

  316. Wow…they want Nunez just nowhere near the field at all.

  317. CBean says:

OMG I turned on the tv and Jeter broke. /panics

  318. MannyGeee says:

Wow… DRob came to play today.

  319. So Kuroda, Hughes,Soriano, and Cano are like the only people on the Yankees to not miss any time due to injury or ineffectiveness.

  320. Kramerica Industries says:

    Absolutely nothing easy.

  321. Karl Krawfid says:

Is it me or does this idiot D-Rob do the same thing night after night?

  322. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I’ve been very critical of Girardi tonight, but I couldn’t agree more with bringing on Soriano for the 4 out save.

  323. Marcy says:

Dickerson doesn’t know how to play the monster well.

  324. Widget says:

Is it possible to get any of these bums out? Loney is trash.

  325. EDDARD says:

Thank God Joe is going to Soriano vs Ross. Robertson had just struck out the previous hitter on the curve in the dirt and then insisted on going fastball after fastball again with 2 strikes to the next hitter! Result? Double down the line. I just don’t get it.

  326. MannyGeee says:

    Do it.

  327. Kramerica Industries says:

    Fully agree with MFIKY here.

    Gotta lock this down.

  328. Mike says:

    Wow, where was that?

  329. Kramerica Industries says:

    Come the fuck on now.

    No free passes. Finish him.

  330. Karl Krawfid says:

    Wow gift call baby!

  331. FIPster Doofus says:

That looked like a horrible call, but I’ll take it.

  332. Kramerica Industries says:

Wow, what a huge break that was.

That was not a strike. And Marquez has had a shitty zone all night.

  333. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

In Ross and Bobby V’s defense, that looked like a ball to me.

    Can someone using gameday confirm?

  334. Mike N says:

Whoah! That fucker looked like he was gonna rear back and clock the fucking ump with his bat!

  335. Effthisnoise says:

Holy shit Ross looked like he was gonna hit him with the bat

  336. mike_h says:

    Ross gets tossed

  337. MannyGeee says:

Pedroias gone home for the night, so Cody Ross ipfilling in admirably in the “bitching about calls” department…

    Well done, douchebag

    • FIPster Doofus says:

His freakout looked justifiable to me.

      • MannyGeee says:

Bitching about the call….ok,,it was a bad call. Raising your bat and having to be restrained by your manager? Little bit over the line. Trust me, someone in pinstripes does that, and they’d be looking for blood.

        • Kramerica Industries says:

          I disagree.

It was a bad call that could cost Boston a chance to win. He had every reason to be beside himself in anger. I would be too.

  338. RkyMtnYank says:

It’s not like that really confirms it.

  339. Effthisnoise says:

That was a ball, but the other one 2 pitches before looked like a strike, but still he went ape shit

  340. EDDARD says:

Great call by Alfonso Marquez. That was a strike that just clipped the low end of the zone. Ross should be suspended indefinitely for raising his bat to an umpire.

  341. MannyGeee says:

Bobby V… Fightin for his job… Good for him

  342. Effthisnoise says:

Normar with a dumb and dumber reference. Classic

  343. Kramerica Industries says:

That was some serious antagonizing by Joe West Alfonso Marquez there.

  344. Karl Krawfid says:

    Idiot baseball night at Fenway.

  345. That’s what happens when you take on the Centaur.

  346. Kramerica Industries says:

Orioles just flashed some tremendous fundamentals to escape the 9th inning.

  347. Karl Krawfid says:

    Andrew miller looks like Jesus.

  348. RkyMtnYank says:

Wonder if Miller feels dumb for having to fix his hair like a girl.

  349. MannyGeee says:

    Fucking Orioles…. Goddammit

  350. Cy Pettitte says:

fuck the Orioles. Nate fucking Mclouth with a game winning hit? is this a fucking joke.

  351. Chilango says:

    O’s walkoff Nate McKlouth

  352. Effthisnoise says:

Annnnnd mclouth walks off against the rays

  353. Kramerica Industries says:

    Surreal finish in Baltimore.

Hopefully, this 1st place stint for the O’s is short-lived.

  354. Mike says:

    Orioles won

  355. Cuso says:

We’re in 2nd place at the moment

  356. Effthisnoise says:

After a bunt to put the RISP. And then a hit with RISP. 2 things the yanks can’t do

  357. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    lucky 13

  358. Kramerica Industries says:

0-13 with RISP. 1-25 in this series.

    That’s truly remarkable.

  359. Mike says:

Alright Soriano, get 3 outs please.

  360. We’re officially not in first place :( Gotta pull this one out.

  361. EDDARD says:

I wanted the Os to take 2/3 and they’ve already taken 2. If we can hold on we’ll be 3 up on the Rays.

  362. Cy Pettitte says:

here it comes. don’t fight the loss. just embrace 2nd place.

  363. Kramerica Industries says:

    Come the fuck on Raffy.

No more runs. Can’t afford that.

  364. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    nice fucking pitch

    Please don’t blow this.

  365. Effthisnoise says:

    And here we go

  366. Mike says:

So how big was that Strike 3 then before?

  367. MannyGeee says:

    I miss Mariano…. I reeeeeeeally miss mariano

  368. Karl Krawfid says:

I have no faith in this team.

  369. Nathan says:

  370. RkyMtnYank says:

    This is gonna hurt bad.

  371. Mike says:

    Wow, OMG. Holy hell

  372. Kramerica Industries says:

    Fucking heart attack right there.

  373. Nathan says:

Just had a mini-heart attack on out #1 just now.

  374. Mike N says:

HOLY FUCK! I thought that was gone.

  375. Effthisnoise says:

    Holy shit

  376. Mike N says:

BTW, who thinks Ibanez would have caught that?

  377. Karl Krawfid says:

    Keep hanging em!

  378. Kramerica Industries says:

Raffy is getting hammered right now.

    Hunker down. NOW.

  379. MannyGeee says:

Everything is tattoo’d right now.. Fair, foul, everything is getting hit hard

  380. TheLastClown says:

The Yankees will win this game.

  381. VT Yankee Fan says:

Imagine how rough this would be if Boston had an MLB lineup.

  382. Chilango says:

Sori sucks tonight. Right on time.

  383. Mikhel says:

Batting practice with Soriano in there… it will be near a miracle if the bosox don’t tie and win it.

  384. Kramerica Industries says:

    One more of those, Raffy.

  385. Mike N says:

    ONE MORE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  386. flamingo says:

    C’mon, just one more.

  387. Karl Krawfid says:

  388. Kramerica Industries says:

    Oh for fucks sake!

  389. MannyGeee says:

Left ankle sprain… No big thing, per Pedro Gomez’ secret inside source

  390. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Can’t make this shit up.

  391. Athenian says:

The beauty of watching the Yankees is deciding if they will suck from the beginning or find a way to continue to lose. At this point total failure is the best option. To think anything else is foolish.

  392. Kramerica Industries says:

Gonna have to finish against Ellsbury.

    God could this be ugly.

  393. MannyGeee says:

    Fuck Jacoby.

  394. Mike N says:

    YEAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy Fuck!!!

  395. Karl Krawfid says:

Shit ended while I was looking down.

  396. Effthisnoise says:

    Fucking fuck

  397. Kramerica Industries says:

  398. MannyGeee says:

    Wow… What a nail biter

I thinks lost 5 years of my life tonight

  399. Bartolo's Colon says:

good that we won, but god damn this team blows. on the other hand, the o’s are legit

  400. stuart a says:

another masterpiece from the empire. timelye hitting and all.

what were they 0 for 13 with RISP. now 1 for 25 or so in the series..

another solid effort. eppley as good as ever…alot of cluth hits, not sure where to start.

they tried everything in there power to give away the game but boston with pedroia going to the hospital fell short.

  401. Kramerica Industries says:

Isn’t it funny how “claps of relief” always sting much more than “claps of gratitude”?

My hands feel like they were stung by a thousand bees.

  402. …I don’t give a fuck about the time of the game, or how unmanagable it was, or the Land Rover Drive of the Game. Just get to the god damned post game show and tell me how much time Jeets is going to miss.

  403. Mike says:

Lol go on ESPN’s MLB page quickly. it says Behind Curtis Granderson’s pair of homets (yes a T, homets, not homers)

  404. Mike says:

Bone bruise for Jeter, been dealing with it for days

  405. anon says:

How does Cook get credited with the L when he gave up 3 runs and the RS scored 4? Shouldn’t Aceves be the pitcher of record?

    • Evan3457 says:

No. Cook left the game with the Sox behind. They never tied it up to take him off the hook. He gets the “L” via scoring rules.
