Game 144: Three Straight?

By

(J. Meric/Getty)

The Yankees are back in the Bronx for the final homestand of the season — they play three games against the Red Sox in Yankee Stadium to close out the season, but I don’t really consider that a “homestand,” per se — and in come the Rays looking to gain ground in the AL East race. Actually, I’m sure Tampa is just looking to gain ground in any race at this point. They’re four games out of both the division and wildcard spots and just need to start winning, like the Yankees. After going a month without winning two consecutive games, can the Bombers make it three straight tonight? Here’s the starting nine…

DH Derek Jeter
RF Nick Swisher
3B Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
Russell Martin
LF Andruw Jones
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Steve Pearce
SS Eduardo Nunez

LHP CC Sabathia

Tonight’s game is scheduled to start a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.

People sitting in the seats on the first best side better get their nets ready.

• zzzzz

martin is batting 5th? did i miss something? has he been batting 5th lately? or is girardi hoping he stays hot?

• http://www.g6tec.com Jedile

I believe he did last night! And Yeah vs. lefties it seems like he does.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I think Joe moved him there during the Orioles series, he’s also actually been hitting the ball well late too so w/e.

• Get Phelps Up

Poor Casey McGehee.

• bring buck back

I still don’t understand why Andruw Jones is allowed to play. I think my grandmother could play better than Andruw Jones. She isn’t even alive. Why not just stick Casey McGhee out there? He probably wouldn’t be any worse on defense and might be a little better on offense. Seriously, did we give up Chad Qualls for nothing?!

Granderson is finally looking hopeful but the rest of 6-9 makes my eyes hurt so bad. 5, too, for that matter. Russ hasn’t been terrible lately but he is not a #5 hitter. “Nunez, SS” also makes me wince.

• The Real Greg

Casey McGehee has not payed outfield in 3 years.

3 years.

• Darren

No disrespect, but I doubt your grandmama could play better than Jones. He’s very bad, but not that bad. You’re just exaggerating to make a point.

• Andy Pettitte’s Fibula

I’ve seen her play and I think she’d be the better option.

• Get Phelps Up

McGehee would be way worse than Jones in the OF, come on. They should put Nix out there with McGehee at 1B.

• Nice Scheister

Seriously, did we give up Chad Qualls for nothing?!

I laughed. Considering he was released by a sub .500 team prior to being picked up, he kinda sucked.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

McGehee shouldn’t be in the outfield, I’m just curious as to what he did for Joe to distrust him so much that he’s running Steve Pearce out there over him.

• Laz

Nunez is a much better hitter than Nix. Jones and Pearce are already easy outs, its tough to give another easy out in nix.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nix isn’t actually an “easy out” against LHP, Price might be a different story because if he’s on just about everybody is an easy out for him. I give Nix a lot of shit because John and Suzyn love him and give him far too much credit for anything, but he has hit LHP to a wRC+ of 86 this season. Not great, but serviceable from a back up infielder.

• Laz

Sub .700 ops for both lefties and righties. I think Nix has done a decent job this year, but he is getting way too much playing time in my opinion, and when you already have Pearce and Jones in the lineup it becomes too much.

• Nice Scheister

I hope Swisher has a good game tonight. My other wish is an improved .233 average w/ RISP moving forward for this series, it would be glorious.

• Chris

Might as well run Steve Pearce out there every day until he finally has a good game…

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yeah too bad we don’t have another back up corner infielder that hits LHP to a wRC+ of 108 wasting away on the bench.

*Casey McGehee cries in the corner*

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Pearce is at 110 wRC+ vs. LHP this season, fwliw

• EDDARD

So glad they gave Nunie another game at SS. He wrecks havoc on the base paths and he’s a better hitter than Nix. CC needs to step up today and finally win one of these big starts.

• Andy Pettitte’s Fibula

Other than their 2, 3 and 4 hitters, the Rays lineup is pretty weak.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

We’re not exactly Murderer’s Row after 1-4 though.

• Andy Pettitte’s Fibula

Sad but true.

• Nice Scheister

LET’S GO! C’mon CC, the last time I was this stoked about a CC start he gave up a Grandslam to Pena in the 1st inning! Buckle down big man!!

• Roadgeek Adam

Not this umpiring crew again. Barry (HP), Darling (1B), Emmel (2B), Jerry Meals (3B)

I fear.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

It’s (no spaces) not for example Jerry Meals

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

huh…apparently it works even if you put spaces it’s “strong” in between the two carrots

• Roadgeek Adam

Yeah I screwed up, tried to stop it, to no avail.

• Hummingbird S.

CC’s stuff looks so pedestrian..

• The Real Greg

It does. But you can win with pedestrian stuff as Mike Mussina showed.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Mike’s control>CC’s Not saying CC’s isn’t excellent, but Moose is a borderline HOF’er due to his impeccable control.

• Chilango

CC’s at 91. Hope he can dial it up.

• Hummingbird S.

He’s not fooling anyone.

• Karl Krawfid

cc doesn’t look sharp.

• EDDARD

Is that Jerry Meals at 1st again?

• Laz

Jones would have been safe if that was the case.

Russel Martin: DEFENSIVE CATCHER

• The Real Greg

Can’t blame him when the ump messed it up.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

You can absolutely blame him, because the situation shouldn’t have occurred in the first place.

• Tom

The ump doesn’t have a chance to mess up if he can catch the ball.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I can blame him for letting the ball get far enough away to make that a close play. If you put yourself at the mercy of the umpires, calls are going to go against you at some point.

• The Real Greg

But that’s the umpire’s job. That’s all they are there to do.

True, Martin should not have let the ball get by, but he doesn’t get blame alone.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’m not defending Darling, he made a mistake. However he’s human, if you rely on other people to do their job right instead of just doing your job right you’re at fault.

• Hummingbird S.

He tried to catch CC’s pitch with his shin. Watch the game before you write something stupid.

• The Real Greg

But should he take the blame alone? NO.

• Tom

Who said it was ONLY Martin’s fault?

You said you can’t blame him and once again when your logic fail is pointed out you change the argument or create a new strawman.

Please point out the comment where it was his fault alone… people are replying to YOUR COMMENT where you said can’t blame Martin.

• Get Phelps Up

Gary Darling: MLB UMPIRE

• Nice Scheister

Blind 1B ump is blind.

• Andy Pettitte’s Fibula

Why the hell doesn’t Girardi run out there?

• Hummingbird S.

Martin blows, and the ump blew the call. No surprises all around.

• Chilango

fuck. he was out

• Roadgeek Adam

Well, that didn’t take long to be an umpire problem.

Jerry Meals is at 3rd for the record.

• Karl Krawfid

Wow Martin. just fail.

• Nice Scheister

I’m afraid is ask Joe if CC’s healthy.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Robot umps. Please.

• Nice Scheister

THIS!!

• Roadgeek Adam

Even if we had robot umps, it wouldn’t do much good.

Robot umps are incapable of understanding the human body, especially if its a blown call. What do you do if a robot ump gets confused?

Then they’ll go all HAL9000 on us.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

At least that would be fun to watch. Also I’m sure using just the camera angles we have already in place there would never be a blown call at first base again. Just feed all those angles into a program designed to find out whether runner or ball get there first, I’m sure it’s relatively easy for software designers to figure that out.

• Nice Scheister

I agree we don’t have the technology yet for a “roboump” per-say but an ump in the booth could have instant access to calls. With real time push of a button on close plays indication fair-foul, safe-out, strike-ball. Still has humans involved just aided with “roboump” technology. Headsets, whatever, just get the damn calls right!

• Alkaline

Stonewall Nunez comes through!

• Electric nunez

Martin better be gone next year i would take shoppack or piezinski atbthis point untill sanchez is ready

• Laz

no AJ, he is an a-hole.

• Pasta Stumbling Sojo

I tried asking this in today’s chat, but Mike didn’t grab the question, so I’ll ask it here:

My wife vetoed the following names for my newborn girl, but which of these would have been best?
Mattingly
DiMaggio
Maris
Ruth
Jeter
A-rod

• jjyank

First name. I would hope Ruth wins. Otherwise, she may get made fun of in school.

• Nice Scheister

Dereka Jeter

• Mikhel

Ruth seems like the obvious answer because it is a girl’s name. “A Rod” nope, that’s asking for trouble with kids who like to taunt and call names.. LOL.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Donna, Donnie for short?

• Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Ooh, pretty good one, I coulda snuck that one by my wife. I should have asked this 3 days ago, too late now!

• George Costanze

Seven

• Nice Scheister

I wonder what happens when an umpire crew is terrible? I fire people that can’t perform to the expectations in my place of employment and the most we pay them is 40-50K per year. These fuckers make GREAT money and some straight suck ass. This bullshit of missed calls, terrible zones and just the constant smell of asperceam is disgusting.

• Roadgeek Adam

Jerry Meals, Mike Estabrook, Angel Hernandez, Las Diaz, Angel Campos are 5 that top my list. I’d fire a lot of them.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Hire me?

• Nice Scheister

I agree, shoot a hostage or three. Make an example of one of these fools and the rest will hopefully perform better or seek other avenues (asking another umps, advocate for technology etc) to get the job done correctly.

Thats the most we pay, it’s terrible hours and tons of expectations. The average per year with little experience is closer to 20-30k per year.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Pft, that’s more than I’m making now. However I have terrible hours and ZERO expectations…so there is that. I mean I get payed to listen to the Yankee game.

• Nice Scheister

I’m one of the managers and after 10 years I finally got to over 100k, with 40% lumped into an annual bonus. It’s a good company, zero debt, but they know it and treat their people accordingly. Its a sales company that doesn’t promote quality of life, I work 50 hours a week so I miss zero expectations.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I usually work 50+hrs a week as well, but it’s as a store clerk, my only expectations is make sure we don’t get robbed, sell stuff to people who come in, and not make a mess.

• Nice Scheister

I just wish I got overtime. I’d work 60-70 hrs per week if I got paid for it.

• Electric nunez

How do we get this same crew one week later???
Is mlb out to screw us

• EDDARD

Price is overthrowing like CC did last outing. We might have a shot tonight.

• Chilango

yes

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I was just looking at the BP work load page earlier…Logan has to be available no? He’s only thrown single digit pitches even though he’s thrown 3 straight days.

• Tom

Could be dicey… even though he doesn’t have that many game pitches you still have warmups on the mound and in the bullpen. They may not all be max effort but it’s still wear and tear.

• Mikhel

Is that “Baseball Prospectus”? and where do i find that work load? I seem to be blind LOL I can’t find it.

• Hummingbird S.

some very nice ABs so far

• bring buck back

Can’t believe Mr. Defense Martin let that strike 3 go all the way to the wall. And Sabathia 25 pitches in the inning, even with Martin’s screwup no excuse, he’s the ace. At this point I’d almost rather see Casey McGehee pitch than Sabathia. I’d rather him catch than Martin too for that matter.

• Hummingbird S.

what a surprise, Cano choked again with RISP.

• WhittakerWalt

He didn’t strike out on a pitch in the dirt. His approach was good and he hit the ball hard. That’s all you can do. Unless you think Jeter’s a choke artist because he also hits into a ton of DPs?

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You must be new here. People were legit calling for Jeter’s head and dubbed him Captain DP in the first half of last season.

• WhittakerWalt

DPs are frustrating no matter who hits them. Jeter was hitting too many groundballs at the time, so the DPs happened. When he’s going good he hits line drives the other way. Same with Cano. I think Cano hits a lot fewer groundballs when he’s going good.
Either way, that was a good at-bat with a bad result. I can’t add it to the case against Cano.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Oh good. More RISPFail.

• The Real Greg

That was not going to end well from the start. Like what Cano tried to do but hit it right at somebody.

• Nice Scheister

Robbie Cano: The poster child for the RISP disease the Yanks have been plagued with this year.

• your mom

I see we’re going to continue the abysmal RISP fail streak.

• Kramerica Industries

I see rally killing DP’s remain a strong part of this team’s arsenal.

• Electric nunez

Napoli i know he is not lighting it up this year but at least he can catch.

• jjyank

Can he? He’s only caught 63 games this year.

• Nice Scheister

He can catch like Nunez can field.

• Chilango

RISPFAIL against the TB staff is deadly. 2 – 34 won’t cut it in this series.

• Karl Krawfid

Gonna be CC’s fault if we lose the game right?

Or the pathetic offense?

• The Real Greg

This is the RISPfail series. Both teams have struggled with this stat.

Tonight, they are both 0-1

• stuart a

going out tonight so I will not provide my sunshine to this site.

cano doing his thing in the first. i was wrong so he is about 220 with RISP and 180 with 2 outs RISP. No matter cano sucks….

Good evening all.

• jjyank

“going out tonight so I will not provide my sunshine to this site.”

I knew today was going to be a good day.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Going out tonight (to get more hand lotion, baby oil, and tissues) so I will not provide my sunshine to this site

I know how to read between the lines.

• jjyank

I got more of a “Going out tonight (to rob small children, kill a few puppies, and piss on Cano’s baseball card” vibe.

• Rocky Road Redemption

I like how we group pissing on Cano’s baseball card with robbing small children and killing puppies. Now there’s a Yankees fan with his priorities straight.

As a side note, that first line was a major tip-off. stuart a is a legit troll. Not an idiot who acts like this just because, but a troll. That first sentence just pushed it a bit too far for me-he’s pulling this act for shits and giggles.

Admittedly, he’s doing pretty well at it.

• jjyank

Haha I just threw that in for fun. Besides, I’m pretty sure stuart has been revealed as a Mets fan who is trolling, hence all the Ike Davis stuff early on. What’s sad is how much time he spends around here if that really is the case.

• Rocky Road Redemption

I suppose if that’s true there’s not much else for him to do if the Mets are sucking like this.

• jjyank

If the Yankees were in the Mets’ position I would…I dunno, read a book, watch a movie, go for a run, play some xbox, hang out with friends…? It’s still really sad that he would choose to spend almost every day trolling a Yankee blog.

• Get Phelps Up

ARod and Cano are going to have monster games.

• Nice Scheister

I’ll miss you Ethel.

• Rocky Road Redemption

You know, with all this talk about how we have this much easier second half schedule these two series’ against the Rays and A’s won’t exactly be a picnic.

• The Real Greg

It will depend with the A;s if they have clinched a playoff spot or not.

• Tom

No it won’t. As usual, logic faul.

It’s not like the A’s series is at the end of the year (There’s 3 series after the A’s/Yankees series). And even if they are in prime position for a WC spot you think they might want homefield for a WC game?

They also close with 7 games against Texas after that series, so they also may still be playing for the division.

• Tom

logic *fail*

• Mikhel

So it was a “logic fail” fail? :-p

• Rocky Road Redemption

Within seven games at this point in the season is not even close to being competitive for the division.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

They’re only 3 games behind Texas. They have 7 games remaining against Texas.

• Tom

Perhaps you misread my comment – they have 7 games against Texas (out of the last 10)

They are currently just 3 games out. So the 9 or 10 games between now and then are important even if they have a WC spot mostly tied up (so they can be withing striking distance for the division with all those head to head games).

For some the media seems to think that division race is over.

• Chilango

Jump on this fcker let’s go…

• jjyank

Nice to see Martin heating up. He’s at .306/.419/.528 over the last 2 weeks, not including that hit.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

John is saying that Jones should try to go the other way w/ the pitches away. Apart from playing RF on occasion, I’m pretty sure Jones doesn’t know of the existence of that half of the field.

• Chilango

Price is not sharp. No command.

• Kramerica Industries

How slow is Andruw?

• The Real Greg

Social Media: Domino’s is doing it right.

• jjyank

Hahaha that’s awesome.

• Kramerica Industries

I’m pretty sure that kind of stuff is a fireable offense.

I remember reading it is between Coke and Pepsi products.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Really? I’d be really upset if the person responsible got fired for that. I mean I found it on Tumblr, and it had already been reblogged over 8,000 times. That means 8000 people have had it on their blog, plus all the people that just saw it, plus all the people that follow Phil, plus the people that follow Dominoes, and all the people that retweeted? And just about all of them probably at least chuckled weakly.

• http://twitter.com/Mikhel Mikhel

That account probably was made by that Phil guy, the “Dominoes” account only has 40 followers and follows 1 person: Phil.

• jjyank

I don’t see why. If the guy didn’t use the word “cheating”, it wouldn’t have happened. It’s not like the guy on twitter for Dominos went out of the way to trash another company.

• Kramerica Industries

I’m not saying this guy certainly got fired. I dunno – I can’t read sarcasm that well in this kind of circumstance.

I do know that it can happen with Pepsi and Coke, though. I forget which one holds that policy, or if both do, but the logic is that you’re directly supporting enemy competition. And it’s kinda stupid to put that out there for everyone to see on the internet.

• http://twitter.com/Mikhel Mikhel

The “Dominoes” account in that tweet was a fake Dominos Pizza account, it is common in twitter to see fake accounts made by people to make fun of themselves and later blog said screenshot.

• RkyMtnYank

Wow, saw Pearce taking his helmet off and for a second I flashed back to Jim Leyritz. Guess that could be good or bad.

• NYCSPORTZFAN

i love ur stuff Mike, but i remember asking u about Steve Pearce whehe was in our farm system if there was any chance he’d help the big club or was just a former solid prospect that is minor league fodder, and u said Fodder.. Hes been a helpful piece for us..

• jjyank

No, he is fodder. I will list his MLB wRC+’s for you.

And so forth. He’s too old to be a prospect and has a career wRC+ of 81 and an even .300 wOBA. A couple of RISP hits for us now does not mean Mike was wrong to call him fodder back in April.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Nunee!!!

• Karl Krawfid

JEter doesn’t get that.

• Chilango

Noonie comes up strong. Nice

• Kramerica Industries

Nunez is much better on those kind of plays because there’s no thinking time involved. Not calling him a head case, but it’s just natural that having extra time to make the throw sometimes causes poor mechanics and, subsequently, poor throws.

• Kramerica Industries

Exhibit B.

• Cy Pettitte

Nunie looking very good at short. impressive.

• The Real Greg

Twice in a row!

• Karl Krawfid

Woo Nunee

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nunez!!!

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

NUNEZ?!? IS THAT YOU

• jjyank

Okay. Who the fuck are you, and what did you do with Eduardo Nunez?

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Me & him rubbed the Fred Savage/Judge Reinhold lamp (or Dudley Moore/Kirk Cameron lamp if you choose).

In any event, we switched bodies for the month.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

I’m not sure Jeter makes either one of those plays.

• The Real Greg

I don’t think so either.

• Chilango

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, but didn’t want to get Greg all pissed off. Nuñez’ seems to be much improved now that they made him play only short.

• EDDARD

I think we have our future SS right here! Nunie!

• Get Phelps Up

The best September callup in Cashman’s career!

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Old baseball saying: “Never trust a player by what you see in September or April.”

• Karl Krawfid

Well the kid can hit. We know that already. Don’t know if that rule applied to Defense.

• Nice Scheister

it’s Nunes’ time to shine baby!!!

• The Real Greg

Also, it seems that CC’s has started to use his location to counteract his lesser stuff.

• Electric nunez

Who has a stronger arm
Nunez or Cano ?

• RkyMtnYank

Would like to see Cano throw from the left side of the infield since it’s usually a different type of throw, but, I bet Cano still has the stronger arm.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’d go w/ Cano, cause whenever he’s throwing from the 3rd base side of second it’s always all arm, it’s just a snap throw, and I don’t think anybody has beaten it yet.

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Before the 2nd play I was in the middle of posting: “it wasn’t the fact that Steve Pearce actually got a RISP hit that brought me back, it was that play from.Nunez.”

And then he made a second one!

• Nice Scheister

That’s the Jeter that I used to know!

• Chilango

Swisher missed a cookie.

• The Real Greg

Partly because he’s struggling and partly because Price throws so hard.

• Athenian

It still early but I like the return of Nunez. Although he better be careful. Being young and playing well with the Yankees gets you traded for old people… #seniormovement

• Need Pitching & Hitting

When was the last time a young player, playing well for the Yankees, got traded for an old player?

• Nice Scheister

CY Young should go to Felix
MVP should go to Jeter, only to Trout if Yanks miss playoffs or Halos get in.
ROY goes to Trout

• The Real Greg

Felix’s struggles in September have let that possibility slip away

• Athenian

That is a crap sports writer argument.

• The Real Greg

Look at the numbers and tell me.

• Nice Scheister

He’s fallen off a little but IMO he should be ahead of Weaver and Verlander. Price or Felix. I personally like Felix, plus Seattle needs something to be happy about.

• http://twitter.com/Mikhel Mikhel

Votes are already in and I think also counted before the season is over. MLB just gives them after the season.

• Karl Krawfid

F-Bomb baby

• jjyank

Hahaha who else heard Upton yell “Aww, FUCK!” After he had that?

• Nice Scheister

That was great.

• Get Phelps Up

Nothing will beat Pedroia that time on ESPN.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

That was brilliant, because it was The Imp, on NESPN, and the camera and mic where both trained directly on him.

• The Real Greg

Can we get Aaron Laffey for next year. He has owned the Red Sox this year.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Been there. Done that.

And why are you still obsessed with what the Red Sox are doing?

• The Real Greg

No, just pointing out an quirk.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Hahahahhaha Dice-K is awful: the first two runs that scored against him Walk, Walk, HBP, Wild Pitch, Wild Pitch.

• jjyank

I don’t care that the Red Sox suck, it always gives me immeasurable pleasure when shit like that happens.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

See…I do care that the Red Sox suck. I love every second of it.

• jjyank

So do I, you know what I meant. I mean I don’t care that they’re not a threat regarding the joy I get from seeing them suffer. I think that makes sense.

• Nice Scheister

The ball boy! Better than Andruw.

• Chilango

CC helps himself. Well done.

• Nice Scheister

Maybe that will wake up the sleeping giant.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

How more awake can he be than a 1 hitter over 4?

• Nice Scheister

I meant mostly in the way of velocity. Or as the young folks call it, V-Lo.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

V-Lo isn’t nearly as important to me as command/control. Look at Joba, he came back throwing straight heat. Problem was it was either not a strike or right down the middle. Same thing w/ Nova for most of the year: his V-Lo was great, but it was over the middle of the plate. I’d much rather CC be hitting corners at 91-93 than leak up and over the middle at 94 or 95.

• jjyank

Unless you’re throwing like 98+, I’ve always considered it kind of overrated. Just about any MLB hitter and tattoo a 95 mph fastball if the location isn’t good. Obviously 95 is more effective than 91 in the exact same location, but yeah, command is more important to me.

• Nice Scheister

Agreed but he’s been off in location and v-lo. I’d prefer location to the v-lo, if I had to choose one (of course) but he just hasn’t looked like the big man we all know and love. I just named my third son after the man! I love me some CC, but he’s looked more like Phil Hughes than the CC that we used to know. I want the best of both worlds from the big man! I’m convinced he’ll get back in another groove before the post season.

• jjyank

Is your son Carsten, or Charles? I really hope his name isn’t Sabathia.

• WhittakerWalt

OK CC, there’s your run.

• Tom

Good work by CC.

Even with that long AB, he’s gotten his pitch count back on track over the last 2 innings (61 pitches through 4)

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Just over 15 per? I’ll take it. W/ CC that means he can probably go at least 7 or 8.

• Tom

Especially after a long 1st inning (and the extra pitches he had to throw after the K-PB)

The 3rd really helped him out.

• Nice Scheister

Seriosully though, has Meals admitted he missed that call? If not, why the fuck is he umping such an important game?!

• Pat D

Of course not, and because there’s no accountability for umpires.

• jjyank

If they won’t get fired, they should at least be banished to Astros games for a few weeks or something.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Because the Umpire Union is way to strong, and has no checks and balances for it’s members. Jim Joyce cost a pitcher a perfect game and is still an Umpire. He also still looks like a Walrus.

• Kramerica Industries

Jim Joyce is widely regarded as one of the best umps in baseball. It’s a little different.

• jjyank

And Joyce at least owned up to it. His comments after the game made it seem that he was genuinely sorry. If players get railed for ditching the media for blowing a game, I’d like to see umpires get the same treatment. I respect Joyce for at least talking to reporters and taking responsibility for his blown call.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Andruw Jones: Not very good at baseball anymore.

• WhittakerWalt

Future Hall of Famer Andruw Jones, everyone.

• jjyank

You know, I’ve never been a Burger King fan, but those popcorn chicken commercials are making me REALLY hungry.

• Pat D

I just ate Wendy’s. I feel bloated now.

I think it’s time to cut out the fast food, unless it’s Subway. Might help with the weight, blood pressure and blood sugar issues, after all.

• Laz

as good as kfc popcorn chicken? That stuff is good.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You mean KFC Crack?

• jjyank

KFC is good. I never had the BK version though, but I see the commercial like every other inning and it looks delicious. At least there’s a PopEyes down the street from me, might need to hit that up tomorrow.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Sucked that it happened, but it made for a great headline.

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/423826_522866221076169_1540408193_n.jpg

• Karl Krawfid

That year sucked.

• Laz

Classic

• Karl Krawfid

That Shallow? Jesus.

• Kramerica Industries

This Chris Gimenez shit needs to stop.

• The Real Greg

That’s good hitting for a .216 hitter

• WhittakerWalt

Fucking Chris Giminez.

• Darren

Appropos of nothing, I miss watching Mariano pitch. His control is so awesome. I really hope he comes back next year stonger than ever.

Ok, back to our regularlyt schedulked programming. CC looks cooked. This could be the end of his career. He’s going to have a Baerga like drop off a cliff.

• Laz

CC has been off all year, but he still is a decent pitcher. Era still good for 2nd best on the staff.

• EDDARD

Coney says the job of the starter at this time of the year is just to win whether it’s 4-3 or 1-0. CC has been given the lead and needs to hold it like Phil and Phelps did. Find a way out of this.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Remember, the Yankees love having DEFENSE FIRST catchers.

• The Real Greg

Scored a wild pitch by the way

• Kramerica Industries

Sabathia is going to a ton of 3-2 counts, especially after being up in the count.

• Chilango

Gimenez fcking Gimenez doesn’t miss a mistake, but Robbie misses two.

• EDDARD

Move your body in front of it, Russell. Another defensive mishap and Nunez has been perfect tonight.

• Kramerica Industries

There were a ton of these 0-2, 1-2 to walk PA’s two weeks ago.

More of the same there.

• The Real Greg

Ump squeezed CC on that at bat.

• Electric nunez

How many runs has martin cost us this year
Fucking posada last year was a better catcher than these two wads

• WhittakerWalt

This is not good.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Step it up CC.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Fuck. Balls. Shit.

• Cy Pettitte

getting shit on by the 7-8-9 hitters. nice.

• Kramerica Industries

And with that, the lead disappears.

And Sabathia is still in as shitload of trouble.

• Karl Krawfid

Yall really thought this was gonna be a 1-0 win for the Yanks?

• your mom

Great CC! 7-8-9 hitters getting on board and doing damage.

• EDDARD

Great pitch there, ace.

• Pat D

Le sigh.

• Chilango

Bottom of the order just like that. Fuck me.

• The Real Greg

You all should not be surprised. This is what the Rays do.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Ridiculous.

• Pat D

Le sigh x 2.

• The Real Greg

Another bad luck hit against CC.

• Tom

Everything’s luck… here we go…

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I cannot believe how many runs our “defensive” catchers have cost us this season. Also CC SETTLE THE FUCK DOWN!!!

• Pat D

Get off your high horse, mister.

• WhittakerWalt

I didn’t realize that was an arrogant statement.

• Pat D

It wasn’t. I was just thinking of John Wayne for some reason.

• EDDARD

Andruw Jones could have hit that pitch Johnson hit.

• Kramerica Industries

And then the requisite chickenshit hit, to boot.

Unreal.

• Nice Scheister

Hughes > CC over the past several starts. It hurts my heart, I’m renaming my three week old from CC to Phillip.

• The Real Greg

Cant blame CC for that hit.

• your mom

Seriously, Fuck CC already. Ace my ass.

• Electric nunez

Martins run
Russel go play for houston next year

• EDDARD

Dave Phelps did it, Phil did it, why can’t CC hold any leads? He’s supposed to be the ace.

• Athenian

Good to have CC back.

• Daiello18

And this is our Ace…… Fuck.

• WhittakerWalt

CC. You fucking fuck.

• Karl Krawfid

Just come out and say that CC is hurt Jesus Christ.

• Captain Gift Basket

Typical Yankee baseball. Double by a guy hitting .225, followed by a walk to another hitting .192, with a run knocked in by the .240 guy. Chalk up another brilliant scouting report by the Yanks.

• Get Phelps Up

Your obsession with the Yankees scouts is scary.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Brilliant scouting report?

How about CC missing spots and not executing pitches.

• Captain Gift Basket

They keep getting beat by the same chumps the rest of the league has clearly figured out.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

At least today, it’s been 100% lack of pitch execution.

• Darren

So, does CC make the playoff roster, assuming we hang on and make it? I say no.

Pettitte
Kuroda
Hughes
Nova
Phelps if needed

• jjyank

This is a funny joke.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

hahahahahahaha

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You’re crazy. Or joking. I can’t figure out which.

• The Real Greg

STOP IT PLEASE.

No hating on CC. No hating period

• Electric nunez

Cc shitting the bed not worth new contract

• BigBlueAL

What has the world come to when I have more faith in Hughes than CC.

• Athenian

CC wil give up one more run and Yanks will fail to come back. Well done boys.

• JonS

Ace…

• The Real Greg

NO HATING PLEASE.

• FIPster Doofus

You’re becoming the Chris Crocker of RAB.

• Pat D

Greg, what happened to make you go from being ultra-negative to ultra-hating-negative? Did you accept Christ as your savior?

• Leg-End

That’s what the 7th lead hes given up in his last 5 starts?

• Chilango

CC is injured. There is no other explanation.

• The Real Greg

And all the sudden, this has become an bearable place to be.

All of you give yourself a round of applause.

• The Real Greg

*unbearable

• WhittakerWalt

What do you want us to talk about? Please, lay out the accepted topics.

• Chilango

Dude YOU are unbearable. You think you’re the blog shrink, or conscience, and it’s getting old. If you don’t like it here just go away.

• Widget

Stop being a baby and grow up. If you don’t like this “place” then go away. It amazes me when people complain about a forum or message board. Just don’t read or post anything. Nobody forces you to join in the discussion.

• Karl Krawfid

Rays have a better approach against CC.

Yankees have the same approach against every pitcher.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Russell Martin: Great fucking game.

• Kramerica Industries

How many balls are getting to the backstop tonight?

Fucking ridiculous.

• EDDARD

LOL! Put Stewart in already.

• Kramerica Industries

Meanwhile, another 0-2 to 3-2 count.

• Tom

That’s really the aggravating part.

Giminez 1-2 (double)
Pena 1-2 (walk)
Johnson 0-1 (sharp single)
Jenning 1-0 (weakish single)
Zobrist 0-2 (walk)

He’s been ahead of everyone but Jennings, including 3 of 5 hitters in put away counts and inexplicably everyone has reached base.

• Athenian

CC is done. Fire up the pen.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Jesus Christ. If we lose this game blame goes in this order:
1. Martin
2. CC

Nobody else.

• Pat D

If they only score 1 run, I’m gonna blame most of the guys in the lineup. I don’t care if it’s Price on the mound.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You have to take that into account. If you’re ace is on the mound and you know you’re facing a guy who’s a Cy Young favorite, you gotta come up strong on pitching and defense. CC hasn’t come up big tonight. Martin, who we’re putting up with his .200AVG because he’s a defensive catcher, has made Mike Napoli look like Johnny Bench tonight.

• Karl Krawfid

And Martin must have drove to Canada and started drinking yesterday.

• Cy Pettitte

time to hand in your ace card CC.

• JonS

Come to find out, his ace card was counterfeit.

• WhittakerWalt

Is Russell Martin drunk???

• jjyank

Quick, check his locker for KFC buckets!!

• Electric nunez

Put fucking cervelli in the game

• Nice Scheister

Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

I cannot believe how many runs our “defensive” catchers have cost us this season. Also CC SETTLE THE FUCK DOWN!!!

Repeated for emphasis!

• WhittakerWalt

The Real Greg did not approve this message.

• jjyank

Hm. Guess my next drink needs to be stronger.

• Captain Gift Basket

CC channeling his inner AJ

• Karl Krawfid

Take him out now please please.

• Kramerica Industries

And the 0-2 walk.

Just hit a grand slam and put him out of his misery, Longo.

• Widget

Good thing the Yankees have a well rested bullpen. Oh right they don’t.

• EDDARD

Of all the contenders we no doubt have the worst ace. We’ve been waiting start after start for CC to win a big game for us and he just can’t do it. He’s been given lead after lead and has blown it every time.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

CC’s thrown nearly 30 pitches this inning and hasn’t gotten an out yet.

• your mom

Take this piece of shit out already. Freddy or Lowe could do this shitless of a job.

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

The shit is doing a shitless job

• your mom

No shit. . . . .

• Nice Scheister

Take out CC.

• JonS

Pull his ass Girardi.

• Leg-End

Somebody go talk to him atleast for christ sake.

• Electric nunez

Bring in eppley

• Athenian

That’s it. Game is over. Say hello to second place and say good bye to playoffs by Monday. Yankees =2011 Red Sox…old, lazy choke

• Electric nunez

Troll much

• Athenian

Um you can say e ass kissing troll comment but unless you ar living in an alternate universe this team on the field is done.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

wow. just wow.

• Get Phelps Up

Since this is already determined could you stop posting here?

• jjyank

I seem to recall another thread back in like June or May or something where you declared the game over in the 4th or 5th inning. I responded that teams play 9 innings for a reason. You scoffed. The Yankees game back to win that game in the 8th or 9th.

Shit sucks right now, but nothing is over in a 2 run game in the 5th inning.

• jjyank

And as I type that, it’s now a 1 run game. Chill out, Athenian.

• Pat D

Huh. Why didn’t ARod step on third and come home?

• Pat D

Nevermind, I saw why.

• Kramerica Industries

Thanks to Sabathia’s incompetence, though, that’s another costly run to allow.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’m listening on the radio, why didn’t Alex come home after stepping on the bag?

• jjyank

I think if he wanted to go home, he would have needed to go straight there. Stepping on third cost a second or so, plus would eliminate the force at home, meaning that the throw needs to get there in time for a tag.

It’s debatable, but I’m okay with getting the sure 2 outs.

• JonS

He choose two outs instad of one (coming home).

• Leg-End

Would have been bang-bang, I don’t think he would have gotten him. He took the 2 outs, right choice I think.

• Electric nunez

Martin would have dropped it.

• jjyank

Alright…down 2 runs, but that could very well be it. Still very winnable.

• JonS

Winnable against a pitcher whom is not an ace. Price is as advertised.

• jjyank

Are you saying Price is or is not an ace? I’m confused.

• TomH

He seems to mean–that “whom” is misleading–that against anyone but an ace, like Price, the game would be winnable.

• jjyank

That’s stupid. It’s a one run game, anything can happen in baseball.

• your mom

Of course he gets their best hitter to GIDP. WTF?

• Kramerica Industries

Sabathia has surrendered the last six leads he has been given, and four times he has put the Yankees in a deficit.

Not good.

• Chilango

All things considered not to bad. But we had our shots at Price early-sound familiar?- and now he’s settled down. 3 runs may be too many.

• Get Phelps Up

Ugly inning overall, but CC deserves lots of credit for getting the Rays 2 best hitters to make 3 outs on 2 pitches.

• Electric nunez

Pull out the battery girardi grow some nads piss off both of them maybe they play better

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The Yankees will put the tying run on base this game. Whether it scores or not is a different story.

• your mom

Okay David, can you shit the bed like CC too?

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If he wasn’t hitting 5th and the other options where Stewart and Cervelli I’d absolutely pull Martin from this game.

• JonS

When has Girardi ever done something that took balls?

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

CURTIS!!!!!!!!!!

• Kramerica Industries

Good job knocking that ball over the wall, Upton.

• Get Phelps Up

Grandy!!

• jjyank

GRANDY! One run game.

• JonS

All that said, the Yankees will still win this game 5-4 despite CC sucking ass as usual.

• EDDARD

SHE’S GONE! WHY COULDN’T CC HOLD THEM TO 2!

• TomH

Because he’s probably injured (bone chips?), although he’s still only given up 3 runs.

• Pat D

Wow, right over his glove.

• WhittakerWalt

Thank you, Curtis. That helps.

• Chilango

Feast or famine Grandy steps up!

• Kramerica Industries

I’m pretty sure Granderson has all three HR that Price has surrendered to LHB.

• Get Phelps Up

I think Cano has a few.

• Kramerica Industries

Turns out Cano hit the other one.

Oh well. Don’t care.

• Tom

For while I think he had the only 2, but he’s given some up over the last year or two. He had 8 to lefties coming into tonight (for his career)

• JonS

Price and Upton. Future Yankees. lol

• TomH

You had better talk first to penny-pincher Hal.

• jjyank

I blame the new CBA more than I blame Hal.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

The new CBA doesn’t force the Yankees to reduce payroll, it just provides incentives for them to do it.

• jjyank

Well yeah. But they are pretty steep incentives.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Repeating this down here because Curtis cut into our angry time: If the BUC’s weren’t Cervelli and Stewart, and he wasn’t batting behind Cano I’d definitely pull Martin from this game, apparently his head isn’t in it defensively.

• JonS

Wouldn’t matter if we had better BUCs. Girardi has absolutely no balls to take Martin out. He could be batting 9th and it wouldn’t matter.

• Pat D

You’re particularly feisty tonight.

• jjyank

He doesn’t have Erica to impress.

/FIP’d

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Wouldn’t that cause me to be less feisty? I just dislike the fact we where sold a bag of goods that’s really a pile of shit in Stewart and Martin’s defensive ability.

• jjyank

Na, you’d be more feisty when the girl isn’t around. And more reserved, playful, and fun when she is. Right? Or have I been fucking up all my interactions with females?

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Feisty and fun aren’t mutually exclusive in my experience.

• Pat D

Fuck you, Jerry Meals.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Fuck Jerry Meals.

• Kramerica Industries

Jerry Meals screws the Yankees again.

• Cy Pettitte

fuck you Jerry Meals. fuck you so much.

• FIPster Doofus

All Jerry Meals does is take.

• EDDARD

FIRE JERRY MEALS!!!!!!

• jjyank

Wait…hitting an umpire like that isn’t a ground rule double? That is a double easily! That’s some bullshit right there.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Jerry Meals’ hatred of the Yankees knows no limits.

• xnyles

WHAT THE HELL MAN!!!!!!!!!

• Chilango

Fucking Meals

• Leg-End

No way! Just had to be him.

• JonS

Too bad it didn’t tear his knee up. F’n Jerry.

• WhittakerWalt

Couldn’t you have killed Meals while you were at it?

• Get Phelps Up

I hope repercussions from that will force Meals to miss the rest of the series.

• Hall and Nokes

Not hitting Meals in the nuts=FAIL

• Nice Scheister

FUCK JERRY MEALS!!! When’s the last time we’ve seen an ump hit by a ball in play…FUCK!!

• Electric nunez

Send nunez to the fall league to learn RF ditch swisher for nunie

• JonS

It’s amazing what having a threat on the bases can do. Kinda miss that with the old folk going station to station.

• Pat D

It’d be nice if Granderson and Jeter didn’t more or less stop running.

But obviously this is where we’ve missed GGBG.

• VT Yankee Fan

Jeter and Knoblauch used to drive pitchers crazy.

• Kramerica Industries

WTF is Price doing?

• Get Phelps Up

David Beckett on the mound.

• Kramerica Industries

Well, more RISPY chances.

Convert.

• Pat D

11th place, according to BRef.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Remember guys: CC’s not an Ace, Price is just having an off night.

• The Real Greg

Thank you. My God this place is full of hate to undeserving people.

• WhittakerWalt

You think CC deserves praise for his recent performance?

• Pat D

I asked you this before, but I don’t think you saw it: What changed to make you go from being Mr. Negativity to Mr. I Can’t Stand Negativity?

Did you accept Jesus as your savior?

• Tom Q

I think it’s lithium

• jjyank

Or maybe he embraced nothing! That’s what did it for me.

• Pat D

I salute your atheism.

• Pat D

Naturally.

• EDDARD

Price still has the lead his team gave him. CC failed to hold that lead as he has in start after start down the stretch.

• Get Phelps Up

Elliot Johnson has the lead.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Price also has good luck on his side: the ball off of Meals, as well as the diving stop off of A-Rod’s bat. Not to mention 3 passed balls (the Wild Pitch should’ve been a passed ball) by Martin directly leading to 1, if not 2 runs.

• JonS

Luck is as bullshit as clutch.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

So what is it that Nunez ball, that should’ve been a double hit an umpire?

• JonS

Has Price consistently been sucky as of late (meaning the last few months)?

• EDDARD

#2 AND #3 HITTERS. Get the runs in, no excuses.

• Laz

Does the 3B ump really need to stand in fair ground?
You can see if it hits the line from foul territory.

• Hall and Nokes

He was in foul territory.

He did nothing wrong; it’s just tragic that the ball failed to hit him in the nuts.

• RkyMtnYank

Well, he should have run into fair territory to avoid a ball that continued to hook foul.

• Laz

Barely, would have hit him in nuts if he didn’t jump

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Too bad he jumped then.

• Kramerica Industries

Atta boy Nick.

Quick and painlessful out.

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Fallacy of the pre-determined Jerry Meals. Should be 3-3.

• Karl Krawfid

An A-Bomb would be amazing.

• Leg-End

This game is tied if its not for Jerry Meals.

• Kramerica Industries

Johnson you motherfucker.

• Karl Krawfid

God damn what a play.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Wow. Are you fucking kidding me? Can we get like a single break against this god damned team?!

• The Real Greg

That’s the year its been for the Yankees. The Rays squibblers find holes, the Yankees’ don’t

Bad luck all the way round

• Tom

Please stop with this luck shit.Saying it over and over doesn’t make it make more sense.

It’s just confirmation bias and a need to rationalize negative outcomes.

• The Real Greg

This game is mostly luck. How can a team like the Cardinals last year win the World Series without luck.

The nature of the game is luck. Hitting a ball thrown at top speed with a wooden stick and hitting it so that nobody can get it.

You need to fact facts. Luck is a HUGE factor in this game (in general)

• Tom

2

• Tom

So the Yankees making the playoffs year after year is just a ridiculous run of luck?

Good to know… thanks for enlightening people once again.

• Chilango

What a stupid comment. Seriously. CC got hit hard. He has been shaky since the All-Star break. Nuñez made a couple of really good plays to retire Rays hitters. The Yankee RISPFAIL is not due to luck. Suck it up dude.

• The Real Greg

I don’t know what game you are watching.

The second run scoring hit was a dribbler up the middle for the Rays.

Yankees hit the umpire and they hit the ball hard but Elliot Johnson makes a great play.

What else can you call that?

• Tom

3

• Moskva

Time to get our RISP-fail going!

• Athenian

Great inning. Fucking waste

• The Real Greg

Bad luck. Just gotta accept it.

Hitting the umpire and then the good play by Johnson

• Tom

1

• The Real Greg

Count all you want. I know in my heart that I’m better than you in life.

• CountryClub

So sick of seeing avg and below avg players on the O’s and rays make plays that cost the Yanks runs.

• jjyank

Highlight of the game so far: Nunez has yet to fuck up.

Bravo, sir.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If he fucks up I’m walking/bussing all the way down to DC just to kill you. I don’t care that you’re Sterling Archer, I’ll wait till you’re sober, then I’ll strike!!

LOL I cannot wait for next season. My fav show.

• jjyank

Same. I’ve been re-watching it lately. When is the next season, anyway?

• jjyank

Haha go for it bro. I could use a drinking buddy. This is me laying out my plan to co-opt your assassination plan and recruiting you to my side.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nah, I’d try to convince you to start smoking again, causing you to loose your super secret NSA job.

• Pat D

Can he work for the NSA and be an atheist? I thought they passed a law saying all government employees must be religious. Or is that just how I see things?

• jjyank

Elected officials pretty much have to if they want votes. Lucky for me, I’m not running for office.

• Pat D

Yet.

It’s why I could never run for office. Well, that and I’d tell people to “fuck off” every five seconds.

• jjyank

Never. I hate domestic politics. Just pisses me off.

• jjyank

Pay check >>>> smoking. I would love both, but I’ve made it two years already. I miss it when it’s brought up, but it’s something I don’t think about anymore.

If it’s ever legalized, Plouffy, you and I have to meet in person and blaze up a big, fat L.

• JonS

Who are you Barry?

• jjyank

?

• Pat D

You have probably just jinxed him. How can you live with yourself?

• jjyank

Cone (on Pettitte’s PFP drills): Oh that’s a good idea, fire some fungos back at that shin!

He was kidding, but I found it funny. Love Coney in the booth.

• https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Coney’s lack of professionalism in the booth is awesome. I would love to listen to him if the was absolutely no censorship. It would be like having a game called by an RAB commenter.

• Laz

Stuck listening to the Rays booth.

• adjusts batting gloves

Does the RAB community think that K-Long will be made to walk the plank over this year’s RISP fail? I’m not in favor of firing coaches for the sake of firing them, usually, but, even with bad luck factored in, the Yankees now just seem psyched out at the plate in those situations. What began as statistical anomaly has become self-fulfilling prophecy. It doesn’t really matter how good the hitting coach is with offseason cage workouts and in-season stance adjustments (though Granderson’s regression is also troubling); part of the job has to be motivational.

• RkyMtnYank

He probably will if they don’t make the playoffs but it would be completely irrelevant. If any player at the ML level has to rely on a coach to that level then they should not be in the majors.

• Laz

I doubt it. RISP fail is really not the coach’s fault. Their overall hitting has been good enough that I think he could keep it.

• Nice Scheister

The hitting coach needs to take some semblance of responsibility for the lackluster job the Yanks have done with RISP. There’s one player above .300 in BA, the OBP is okay but that should be expected with the payroll the Yanks have and all the professional hitters they employ. Without looking I’d guess the teams that hit for a higher average also hit with a higher average with RISP. Everytime someone makes a point on here about BA it’s made out to be a useless stat and OBP is sited instead. A walk typically doesn’t get the guy in from second or third (unless their loaded), a base hit does. So let’s see some BA skill with runners on.

• Chilango

Hey Greg the Rays just got unlucky! ARod threw out Gimenez on a close play.

• The Real Greg

Yes they did.

• Tabbert

I love how people blame ” bad luck” on us not scoring runs. Arod hit a ball in the INFIELD with RISP. Yes.. there was a nice play at second, but it was nothing masterful. Maybe next time Alex can drive something? You know if you HIT A HOMER they cant make great defensive plays.

• jjyank

I’m pretty sure by “people”, you just mean Greg. So, yeah.

• Chilango

Or if we had guys who could actually hit for avg we might get some runners in.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Bus time, good luck the rest of the way boys.

• jjyank

Catch ya later Ploufferz.

• https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Shitty time to have to catch the bus every night.

• Kramerica Industries

Really solid inning offensively there.

As the game starts to get closer and closer to Rodney territory.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Andruw – there’s a pasture with your name on it.

• Chilango

unfortunately there’s also a binder with his name in it.

• Kramerica Industries

Sabathia is terrible at getting to first.

• JonS

Kinda hard for a 300lbs lefty who falls off to third.

• EDDARD

Get your ass over there and cover the bag, CC. Jesus.

• Pat D

Fuckin’ Pena.

Remember, Pena is one of the reasons that ARod signed with Texas.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

They just find all kinds of new ways to fuck things up.

• https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Not the person I would wanna get run over by.

• Laz

Pearce really should have been covering 1st. Ball was too far away as it was to get back in time.

• Electric nunez

At this point jones should sit rather see mcgehee up there swinging

• Chilango

Small ball. See how it’s done Joe?

• Pat D

Umm…they haven’t done anything yet. The bunt failed.

• Pat D

I just had to say something.

• Chilango

But then stolen base, base hit and they got another one.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

It’s Joe’s fault the Yankees don’t have players that can steal bases?

• Laz

Nunez can, too bad gardy got hurt.

• JonS

Not just Joe, try the all Yankee writer/bloggers.

“We don’t want to waste an out”

Like they’re not doing that now anyways.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

They did waste an out. The bunt accomplished nothing.

• Chilango

But it’s betting than wasting an out watching Swisher flail at an off speed pitch in the dirt, or Cano roll one over.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

It is? At least with Swisher and Cano swinging there is a chance of something good happening. It’s not a guaranteed out.

• Cy Pettitte

why is this turd still in giving up runs?

• Kramerica Industries

Shitty two-out pitching.

Way to go, ace.

• EDDARD

And he already gave up the run we got him. Atrocious.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

CC sucks now. That’s gonna make it real difficult to win the division (or do anything in the playoffs).

• Laz

Just hope we don’t have the wildcard. No one I really want to run out there in a 1 game playoff. 5 game series we might sneak a few.

• Electric nunez

Why is sabathia still out there

• JonS

Too late Girardi. Idiot.

I still say they win 5-4 despite CC.

• EDDARD

Nunez would not steal that bag vs Price, Johnson did and he scored. That’s the difference in the ballgame. Be aggressive, it wins ballgames.

• Karl Krawfid

This sucks.

• CountryClub

Man, the Yanks are one frustrating fucking team this yr.

• Electric nunez

Hes hurt
We will see an elbow or shoulder soon

• Eric in Town

I have to agree, his has no velocity or control. I think it was Mike who said that may be a result of an elbow problem (or shoulder I forget which he mentioned). Either way, without him 100% no chance we take a deep run into October – if at all at this rate.

• Nice Scheister

After the post-season we’ll hear something but they’ll keep running him out there and let him continue his 2010 Phil Hughes impression and pretend he hurt himself in the post-season.

• Nice Scheister

Meant 2011 Phil Hughes impressions, oops.

• Eric in Town

CC has pitched like garbage the last few weeks (months?). I hope he’s not hurt, but what else could it be? Fatigue? Yeesh.

• JonS

Common sense would say that you can’t keep riding a pitcher for 230+ innings and not have a consequence.

• Eric in Town

Agreed – I’m just saying something is not right. He keeps saying that he’s 100% but obviously the results are not there so something is amiss.

• JonS

Definitely. If he’s not hurt, the Yankees got got and he’ll be Barry Zito in 3 years.

• TrueBlue

Needed an Ace outing… Didn’t get it.

• Kramerica Industries

Another start, another blown lead, and another underwhelming start by the $23M “ace”.

C.C. Sabathia, ladies and gentlemen.

• JonS

True. 3 strike outs against the Rays. Is that Luck too?

• Electric nunez

Give your paycheck this week to charity CC you didnt earn it.

• Hall and Nokes

Yanks may be dropping a game to the entire AL field tonight, except the loser of BAL-OAK. Though you never know, both of those teams are gritty enough to win the same game.

• Chilango

Just the same script. We could have got to Price early but did not. Then he settled down and our guy gave up the lead etc etc fuck this team.

• JonS

So who’s going to be the writer to defend CC and say he battled through and kept his team in the game.

The same crap you expect to say for Freddy or Phelps, not your $23m+ supposed “ace”.

• Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Greg.

• Kramerica Industries

Yep.

Two more innings to turn around this abomination.

• Athenian

As much as I would hope to see it, won’t happen. This is just the model of failure and excuses. Queue the Fat Lady

• Kramerica Industries

Just trying to try and preserve my sanity and not post something too quickly.

It’s probably not too quick anymore.

• Effthisnoise

Love the fact that the rays looked dead against Baltimore but CC and the yanks have made then feel right at home in the bronx

• Karl Krawfid

Remember when the Yankees hit off speed pitches?

Yeeeeah.

• Frank

You can put a bow on this game boys and girls. There’s always tomorrow.

• EDDARD

And the biggest game of the year now rests on the right arm of Ivan Nova. If we lose that game the Rays are right back in it and we might be 2 games back for the division. In games where we really need a W our ace just cannot be counted on.

• Athenian

I now think the Yankees will get swept.

• DC

That makes what, 20-25 games you’ve declared as “the biggest game of the year”?

• jjyank

Off topic, but anyone else run into a situation where you didn’t think you needed to shave in the morning, then all of a sudden at like 9 PM at night the itchiness just ambushes you like it’s no tomorrow? Man. Had to watch the last inning in between razor strokes.

• Pat D

No. I never realize I need to shave until the itchiness is noticeable.

• JonS

This is just comical now.

• Cy Pettitte

nice 0-2 pitch.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

It would be nice if Girardi would realize Eppley sucks now.

• Pat D

I’m afraid that’s game.

• Kramerica Industries

And the ROOGY surrenders the requisite Upton home run.

Fuck everything. Big time game in a big time series, and the Yankees open with a dud. What a fucking shock.

• Karl Krawfid

Ball game.

• Frank

What a terrible 0-2 pitch.

• Chilango

Serious rebuilding is in order in the off-season. We’re stuck with ARod and his PED-ridden crumbling body, and Tex, whose GG doesn’t compensate the tumbling offensive numbers. But Granderson, Swisher and the platoon buffoons need to go.

• JonS

I think everyone would agree but those who make the decisions.

For some reason, only the Yankees think that they can beat father time.

• JonS

So…If Yanks miss playoffs.

Girardi Fired (goes to Chicago where he actually fits)
Yankees hire…Terry Francona.

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Terry’s gonna end up in Cincinnati or Washington

• JonS

No way they fire Baker or Johnson.

• http://twitter.com/Mikhel Mikhel

I doubt it will happen, JoeG won’t fired unless he misses next years playoffs… =/

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

tack-on baseball.

wish we played that

• Karl Krawfid

You guys have been expecting something different to happen every night.

This is who the Yankees are.

A team that pitches poorly and can’t come through in the clutch.

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

You drank the Greg potion

• Karl Krawfid

It’s been over a month now.

• http://twitter.com/Mikhel Mikhel

Since july, 2 1/2 months.

• Chilango

6 runs off he O’s in the whole series. 5 off us in 8 innings. And what is Eppley doing pitching at all? I’d rather see Swisher in there, then we could pinch hit for him in the 8th.

• Tom

I think Wade must have been in the car with McGehee when they ran over Girardi’s dog.

Eppley is cooked, and has been for a while. Wade may not be a great option, but at this point I think he needs to be higher on the bullpen totem pole than Eppley. This is was a 2 run game – why not Joba or Wade?

• RkyMtnYank

Exactly, it was only a matter of time before Girardi added to the Martin and CC debacle.

• Kramerica Industries

Keep giving up doubles to Chris Gimenez, guys.

• Tom

The average right hander against Clay Rapada (career #’s):

.330/.447/.596
(yes the average right hander against Rapada has a 1.053 OPS)

Sure it was Gimenez, but that’s what happens when Rapada faces a righty. With Pena on deck and 2 out the only real bad outcome would have been a HR (or the LOOGY doing non-LOOGY things against Pena when the righty inevitably gets on base). Given the bullpen that seems like a reasonable decision by Girardi (Eppley on the other hand…)

• JonS

Oh now he starts to warm up Wade.

• Cy Pettitte

Chris fucking Giminez has 2 doubles tonight. I don’t understand how the O’s allow 6 runs over 3 games and we allow 5 in less than one game with our ace on the mound.

• JonS

Replace “ace” with #4 starter and it makes sense.

• Kramerica Industries

Orioles are 9-6 against the Rays this year.

Yankees will likely be 6-10 after tonight.

Tells you all you need to know.

• Chilango

I do. CC has been shit since the All-Star Break and Eppley sucks. The question is why Joe put him in in the first place.

• Nice Scheister

Fuck this umpire crew.

• JonS

Sabathia should be a candiate for player of the game.

• Kramerica Industries

The Orioles have held the Rays to 0-2 runs the last seven times they’ve faced.

Yankees have held them to 0-2 runs, what, twice this year, at best?

That’s sickening.

• Chilango

This team is just plain bad. I suppose they could make a run if they get into the playoffs but it doesn’t seem likely they could turn it around that fast, given their inherent weaknesses.

• Nice Scheister

With Meals and his crew on the job, I’m pretty sure any close calls in this soon to be comeback will be in favor of the Rays.

• JonS

Holy shit. The only team to not win a game after losing in the 8th inning. 0-53.

• Nice Scheister

They are the anti-2009 squad.

• Cy Pettitte

why can’t we just have 9 Jeters?

• Kramerica Industries

And now the teases begin.

• JonS

Michael Kay telling the truth.

• Nice Scheister

Somber truth. Someone needs to step the fuck up.

• Tom

Ain’t over yet,

Though that last tack on run that pushed the lead from 2 to 3 runs is rough.

• Kramerica Industries

Swisher’s making progress.

Not K’ing every AB, just getting under every pitch now.

• Cy Pettitte

2 fastballs down the middle and he can’t do anything with them.

• Karl Krawfid

Swish just popped up 91 down the middle in a 2-1 count.

This is Yankee baseball.

• http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Because Swisher can’t take short base-hit type strokes. He’s always gotta take a long looping hero-swing

fuckin jerk-off

• Kramerica Industries

Well, thanks Eppley.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

It’s spelled G-I-R-A-R-D-I.

• Cy Pettitte

ABOMB! monster shot.

• Karl Krawfid

A-Rod does the fucking job.

Hell yeah.

• RkyMtnYank

Rally killer

• Chilango

The dick tease has begun.

• Nice Scheister

THIS!!!!!!

• JonS

Damn, that’s a blast.

• Widget

Please come back and win this game. Please. A-Rod!!!!!!!!!!!

• Anthony

Nice Alex….lets tie it up!

• Nice Scheister

Meals just called it a foul ball.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Got home right in time for the A-Bomb :)

• RkyMtnYank

The radio would not have done that justice

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Not at all. The second the ball made contact I was sitting down and I was just like “wow that is fucking GONE.”

• WhittakerWalt

Why, oh why couldn’t they have not allowed the tack-on run?

• Nice Scheister

Because Girardi’s a moron and used Eppley instead of a real reliever.

• RkyMtnYank

Right now the Jerry Meals defensive play is the diff in the game.

• Nice Scheister

See what a bad call can do to a game? Box score shows a single but in our hearts we know it was a double.

• RkyMtnYank

Dude, let’s not go there again, we are going to have to agree to disagree on that call yesterday.

• Nice Scheister

True. I’m sure we agree, bad calls sucks. We’ll leave it at that.

• Kramerica Industries

Tying run on base now.

This tease is gonna kill me.

• Anthony

Ugh I hate this man

• Chilango

Nice AB Robbie. Whatever happens we make Rodney throw 4 outs.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

jjyank, you still around? If so when John asked if I was Barry when I said “I don’t care that you’re Archer I’ll kill you” he was referring to Barry, formally of ODIN, turned cyborg assassin by the KGB, now leader of the KGB.

• DT

Why the fuck don’t you pinch hit for Russell Martin

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Wondering the same thing here.

• Tom

Have to think with his ridiculous changeup, Ibanez is certainly not the answer. Chavez will go opposite field so he might be an OK option.

The changeup makes it not as straightforward as left vs right

• The Real Greg

Because he’s been hot the last week or so.

• The Real Greg

Plus as Tom said, the changeup might mess up lefties.

• Chilango

who with?

• DT

Chavez, Ibanez, Dickerson, Ichiro. Someone who isn’t completely useless against righties.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

any of the LHH.

• Tom

The troubling aspect of this move is with his changeup, I’m not sure it makes sense to put lefty PH’s in.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Great AB there Martin…also awesome job by Girardi not pinch-hitting there.

• The Real Greg

Did you not read Tom’s response?

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I hadn’t read it yet. I like you for the most part Greg, but this comes across as pompous.

• Tom

Greg will latch on to anything that defends Girardi.

Earlier in the thread I apparently sucked at life, now he’s pointing people to my comments.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

My favorite part is, I posted this before you posted your response to me.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If you look at the times, I posted this BEFORE Tom’s response to me.

• Kramerica Industries

Would be nice to see Ibanez do something here.

• Kramerica Industries

Well, now it’s up to Granderson.

• Cy Pettitte

at the very least they’re making him throw some pitches

• Kramerica Industries

Way to go Curtis.

First pitch. Jesus.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Grandy: it’s key to have a huge AB here. You don’t have to score, hell you can make out, just make this guy throw as many pitches as possi…or ground out on the first fucking pitch. Good job there buddy.

• Chilango

KKurtis please make contact.

• swishers fauxhawk

four pitch walk

first pitch swing

• Pat D

Curtis swings at the first pitch after a four pitch walk.

Curtis giveth, Curtis taketh.

• DT

Should have pinched hit Chavez for Martin. Martin could not have put up a more worthless AB…Fucken Girardi.

• ArchStanton

So sick of this team swinging on the first pitch after 4-pitch walks. I know what they’re thinking, but it never seems to work.

• Daiello18

Sure 4 pitch walk and he swings at the first pitch… Nice plate discipline…. Great job curtis… Unreal with this team. Little league players know to take 1 after a 4 pitch walk…

• Nice Scheister

Curtis, take a pitch. That .234 BA is pretty unsightly.

• Billy

Guy just walked a batter ahead of you on 4 pitches?

What do you do on your first pitch?

Fuck you Kurtis.

• Captain Gift Basket

Yanks must be big RAB fans – they know RBIs are way overrated, too.

• Athenian

If Granderson isnt hitting home runs, he is useless at the plate. Good Job Grandy!

• Kramerica Industries

Pearce-Nunez-Jeter due up.

I imagine Pearce will be PH for. But it’s not much prettier.

• Rocky Road Redemption

This fucking sucks (and I was about to post this before the Grandy AB pitch). Why? Because I simply CAN’T make myself believe they’ll come back. I don’t think they could do it. But they’re making it just close enough that I can’t stop watching and I’ll be twice as fucking frustrated when they lose.

FUCK. I hope they win.

• Kramerica Industries

I didn’t bat an eye on the ARod home run.

It’s bad enough watching the Yankees play like shit. It’s bad enough watching them play like shit. And it’s even worse seeing them play like shit and having no choice to listen to the Rays announcers through this.

I’ll get excited if they tie or take the lead. I’m far too cynical in this team by this point to think they can actually make it happen. Once again, we’re seeing them only capable of scoring on home runs. RISP chances be damned.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

I don’t mind swinging at the first pitch there, but if you’re going to swing, make sure the pitch is a fastball right down the fucking middle, not a borderline pitch.

• Chilango

Yes.

• teddy

rays have more heart and character than nyy and their manager plays to win

• DT

So much heart and grit by singling us to death.

• JonS

The Rays have the best manager in baseball.

• Rocky Road Redemption

As opposed to the Yankees who just give up every game and their manager who actively tries to lose.

• WhittakerWalt

You’re speaking gibberish.

• http://twitter.com/Mikhel Mikhel

A good manager doesn’t play to win, he plays to tie the game AND THEN to win. The Yankees have lost a lot of games because their approach is to win it with a homerun with a men on third and no out and down by one run, instead of getting the run home and then look for a way to create a run.

Good pitching will outduel homerun hitters, specially in september.

• WhittakerWalt

The Rays scored the winning run via the homer.

• RkyMtnYank

Why did we not see Joba instead of Epply, ugh!

• Captain Gift Basket

Here comes the stolen base and Zobrist single…

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nice play by Grandy!!

• RkyMtnYank

bet his UZR goes down somehow hehe

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Honestly, he doesn’t go back on the ball that well, he doesn’t track the ball to Left Center well, and he’s average at coming in on balls. He relies on his altheticism to get him by, and as he gets older that’s going to be a problem. He doesn’t have any sort of arm, so you can’t just move him to right…

• Chilango

Why was Eppley in there at all? There is absolutely no reason to trot him out there in a reasonably close game. Only Girardi’s binder knows for sure.

• Joe Girardi’s Trapper Keeper

I think a few of my pages are stuck together…

• WhittakerWalt

This has not been the best game of Russell Martin’s career.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Russ is having a stellar defensive game.

• Cy Pettitte

worst possible time and NunE strikes.

• Kramerica Industries

Nunez strikes at the worst possible time.

• Pat D

jjyank, I’m-a kill you.

• Karl Krawfid

Oh my fucking god.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

And there is NunEEE.

smfh

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

………………….are you fucking kidding me?! of all fucking times NUNIE come the fuck on!!!!!!!!

• Chilango

Stonehands Nuñez. ARGHHH

• WhittakerWalt

Ahh, there’s Nunez.
Just when this game felt within reach.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

His defensive incompetence on routine plays is astounding.

• Kramerica Industries

Amazing how many runs the Rays score off this team when they steal with two outs in the inning.

Abominable.

• Knoxvillain

Please die, Nunez. Make me happy. Just die.

• Rocky Road Redemption

Too far. Way to far.

It’s a game.

• Knoxvillain

Not for me. I would cry tears of joy.

• DC

Get a life.

• Rocky Road Redemption

I’m pretty sure you’re just a lying troll, but in case you’re not, you’re a fucking awful human being.

It’s a fucking game, if you want people dead because of it you should be fucking institutionalized.

• Widget

And finally the Real Nunez shows up.

• bring buck back

I quote myself, at 6:38 pm:

“Nunez, SS makes me wince.”

• Effthisnoise

Of fucking course

• Nice Scheister

LMFAO! Goodnight folks, I’ve had enough for tonight.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Is Russ going to make an average defensive play tonight?

• Athenian

Awesome. Such a joke!

• Pat D

Nunez attended the Davey Lopes School of Defense. Which has for years doubled as a matador school.

• Karl Krawfid

How hard is it to get in front of that ball really?

• Rocky Road Redemption

I have to hand it to Nunez. Somehow, some way, against all odds, he managed to have a bad defensive game-context wise his worst ever. That fact that he managed this after making two great plays earlier is incredibly impressive.

I tip my cap to Nunez. He never ceases to amaze me.

• ArchStanton

From what I understand Nunez did not show improvement on defense in AAA, so why is he in the field again?

• WhittakerWalt

Because RAB commenters have been dying to get his bat and energy into the lineup. Somehow, they believed if they wished hard enough his defense would be improved.

• Rocky Road Redemption

I look forward to it every day and rarely miss a game, and this won’t change and I still think they’ll end up stumbling in with the division title, but watching them sucks. A lot.

• Rocky Road Redemption

Whoops, was supposed to be its own post.

• BigBlueAL

Bad luck on that Nunez error.

• Karl Krawfid

If the Yanks score ima cry.

• Electric nunez

Time for thought that nunie not an infielder but needs to play outfield

• Reggie C.

Pearce will somehow get on base and Nunez will redeem himself with a two run shot.

/fridaynighthomedrinkin

• Effthisnoise

Yankee stadium, where other teams Come to feel better about themselves

• DT

Remember last year and Nunez literally threw away like 2 games?

• Need Pitching & Hitting

Maybe Nunez as a 5th OF/pinch runner next year.

Other than that, I don’t see how he could have any substantial role on this team.

• Knoxvillain

Sell him into slavery in some foreign country or something so we can all celebrate.

• teddy

giradri and cashman should be fired

• Widget

that goes without saying. some fresh ideas couldn’t hurt the yankees. cashman really needs to go. We see how bad he is when he can’t spend money.

• Pat D

Yea, that Swisher trade worked out terribly.

• DT

Pineda having an arm injury is totally his fault. Otherwise we would have had a young talent pitcher that has ace potential and under team control. What a lack of foresight.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Down 2? Let’s bat the guy who is second to only Chris Stewart in worst offensive player to lead off.

• Knoxvillain

You must have forgotten that Girardi is the manager still. He does that shit.

• Pat D

Joba should have killed Nunez.

• Karl Krawfid

Only team that hasn’t won a game trailing after 8.

• Pat D

I miss 2009.

• Chilango

OK Nuñez fucked up. But the Rays actually have guys who bunt, run and press the defense. Hats off to ‘em. Maybe the Yankee FO will wake the fuck up in the off season and make some real changes.

• Pat D

Jesus, shut up.

• DT

Yes we should get a bunch of shitty hitters who can bunt and play small ball.

• JonS

Instead of the bunch of shitty hitters we have now who can’t bunt and can’t play any ball?

• Need Pitching & Hitting

You’d really prefer Tampa’s offense?
If the Yankees had Tampa’s offense this year, they’d probably be fighting of the Sox and Jays to stay out of last place.

• Need Pitching & Hitting

*fighting off

• DT

But they have heart and grit or something.

• DC

He’d be the first one complaining about the lack of power.

• WhittakerWalt

They didn’t win because of bunting. Upton’s homer was the winning run.
Even though homeruns kill rallies.

• Rocky Road Redemption

Are we out of first place then?

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If we lose this game, we’ll be a half a game out of first, but only because Baltimore is on the West Coast.

• Karl Krawfid

Half game out.

If the O’s win, full game out.

• Rocky Road Redemption

In that case, I know it’s only a one game difference but I’m honestly afraid that if we ever lose first place that’s going to be it for us.

Go A’s!

• Kramerica Industries

This team does not cease to fail with their incompetence.

• teddy

this team is gutless

• Pat D

So are you.

• Captain Gift Basket

Ooh, tough guy

• DC

Ooh, tougher guy

• Pat D

I’m sure I’m as tough as teddy is and as tough as you are. Not that it’s something that matters.

Why doesn’t he define “gutless” when he accuses a baseball team of being so?

• Defensive Indifference

Meek.

• http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Just a baseball game. Just a loss. Comeback tomorrow, and win.

• Pat D

You found Zen now?

• JLC 776

Baseball is about each series, not about each game. It’s far easier to take a loss when you keep things in that perspective.

• Kramerica Industries

Rays get swept, come to New York, and win.

Unreal.

• Pat D

Well at least they didn’t lose another 1-run game.

• BigBlueAL

Its games like tonight that make me lean heavily towards hating this Yankee team lol

• Widget

When does Rodney fail his drug test? He is not this good.

• DT

I wish someone would hit Girardi in the face with the Binder….

• JLC 776

Just remember, this team doesn’t know how to win game one of a series. Consider game two and game three in the bag.

• Pasqua

…but they’re not scheduled for consecutive wins until October 12-13.

• WhittakerWalt

What an utter piece of shit this game was.
CC- awful
Martin- awful
Eppley- great 0-2 pitch
Nunez- nothing new there
RISP- hahaha
ARod- nice job
Jerry Meals- please die

• Chilango

How many LOB tonight? RISPchokes? Rays hits on 0-2 pitches? Same CF as usual. All that’s left is Girardi’s post lame commentary. I wonder how he’ll explain bringing in Eppley.

• WhittakerWalt

“We wanted Epp for the rightie, he just missed his spot. No one feels worse about it than Epp.”

• DT

Vintage Girardi. Also why didn’t you pinch hit for Martin?

“Martin is a big part of our team. He’s had some good at bats lately.”

• RkyMtnYank

He won’t have to because the media won’t ask any actual questions anymore.

• Chilango

Right. Everyone just knows by now. The RISPFAIL. The lead given up. The late inning tease. The binder bullshit. etc. Hard to watch these guys find the same old ways to lose.

• Kramerica Industries

“Three Straight”?

LOL. Nice try Mike.

• bring buck back

I hope I meet Joe Girardi in person sometime. I want to spit in his face. He deserves it, for all the games he has lost for the Yankees with his inept bullpen management during 1- and 2-run games.

• Pat D

Which makes your handle all the funnier. Do you not remember Buck’s last game as Yankee manager?

• FIPster Doofus

I’d like to see you do that just to watch Girardi wreck you. He looks very capable of destroying someone.

• Rocky Road Redemption

That WOULD be fun.

Actually bring back buck, I’ll do my best to contact Joe and arrange this is you want to.

• OMG! Bagels!

anyone who would spit in someone’s face for any reason, let alone a baseball game is disgusting.

• WhittakerWalt

Have you seen how diesel Girardi is? Good luck with that.

• DC

Did you not get enough attention as a child?

• http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

And I hope I’m there to see it, because Girardi would beat the living shit out of you.

• Defensive Indifference

I hope Joel Sherman asks Girardi if CC is hurt. Twice.

• DT

At least Arod and Jeter looked good.

• Kramerica Industries

1-7 now in Sabathia/Price games.

Big game pitcher, that C.C. Sabathia…

• DT

This year is obviously an off year for CC. Losing to Price is just an anomaly. Last year he pitched a complete game shut out vs the rays. The final score was 1-0, our only run coming off a James Shields error.

• WhittakerWalt

It’s def. an off year, but we keep seeing excuses for CC’s shit performances. It’s getting really old.

• Rocky Road Redemption

This year, you’d be right. Overall, I’ll continue making excuses.

• WhittakerWalt

“Overall” is not doing us much good right now. Overall, for the course of his career, CC’s been great. He might win 300 games. He might go the Hall of Fame.

Right now, in this crucial stretch, when every game is a virtual must-win, he’s been a zero.

• Bubba

CC … Weak sauce

• The Angry Troll

At least the Sox know how to win in the 9th . . .

• Rocky Road Redemption

Occasionally, I guess. When they’re not getting the living shit beat out of them by the ninth, sometimes they win.

• Rocky Road Redemption

And, of course, the fucking O’s are winning the battle of the vowels.

One run, true, but fuck it all.

• Chilango

Article on relying on the HR to win ballgames:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09.....f=baseball

Swisher and Granderson and Robbie have been underperforming and no one would expect Chavez and Ibañez to keep putting up their 1st half numbers, Jones and Martin flat out suck etc…but the biggest factor is the pitching. The mediocre starts, and especially the horrible middle relief have killed us.

• Rocky Road Redemption

Higher vowels up by a run after a HR!

Fuck yeah!
