Game 146: Win and relax
ByThe Yankees are off tomorrow and boy would it be nice to give the four core relievers — Rafael Soriano, David Robertson, Boone Logan, and Joba Chamberlain — this afternoon off. They’ve been worked real hard these last two weeks and I’m sure two straight days of rest would be much appreciated. Hiroki Kuroda needs to take the ball deep into the game and the offense needs to really put up some runs. Not five or six, more. Win, stay in first, enjoy the off-day. Here’s the lineup…
DH Derek Jeter
RF Nick Swisher
3B Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
C. Russell Martin
LF Andruw Jones
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Steve Pearce
SS Eduardo Nunez
RHP Hiroki Kuroda
This afternoon’s game is scheduled to start a little after 1pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and TBS nationally. Enjoy.

How and why are the Giants and Yankees playing at the same time?! That’s just stupid scheduling by the NFL. They knew the MLB schedule when they made their schedule and they scheduled a week 2 game at the same time as a Yankee game while the Yankees could be (and are) in a pennant race. They’re just asking to split viewers. People who are even Yankee and Giant fans (like myself) are probably going to at best be switching back and forth, if not picking the Yankee game.
Nearly all football games are shown at 1 o’clock. The epic matchups are reserved for 4 and 8 timeslots. Giants vs the Bucs isn’t exactly primetime football and the Giants already had their moment in primetime.
Good thing Dallas plays at 4:00 for me. My only out of state team. Giants should win easily. Making the Yankees game more interesting for you though.
What’s fucking hilarious, to me, is how it’s Tampa Bay vs. New York in both cases.
I don’t hold anything against the G-Men, but gotta go with the Bucs there. Split city loyalties today.
Hope you enjoy Freeman eating some dirt.
I don’t expect the Bucs to win.
I’m not that stupid.
I don’t think you can schedule the Giants for non-1pm games all of September. They’d either have to play West Coast games or be slotted in prime time slots, and doing 4 of those in a row isn’t really possible. They’ve done that for Weeks 1, 3, and 4, and that seems reasonable.
I’m just upset that I’m stuck at work, so it’s not even like I switch the channels between them, since I’d have to do internet radio/streaming for both it would just be chaos.
This is our chance to put the Rays away for good in terms of the division. A win makes it a 5 game lead with 16 to play, a loss and it’s just 3 games. Nobody beats Hiroki Kuroda at Yankee Stadium.
Nobody scores for him either.
My first RAB game thread!
Have fun!
Welcome. Try not to judge them too much if the Yankees are losing
Used to it at Pinstripe Alley/Pinstripe Bible.
But I’m liking RAB fans better.
Yeah, I hope you took some Dramamine in case the Yankees go behind at any point.
Really want to win today!
Two straight days of Joe Fucking Buck.
And it’s funny that Tampa is playing at New York in two sports at the same time.
Yes, I know one of the games is in Jersey.
What’s even funnier is by 4 o’clock I firmly believe Tampa fans are really going to dislike the NY/NJ area even more than they do right now.
They’d better.
What channel is the Giants game supposed to be on? From what I can tell from a brief Comcast guide search, the only game on right now is Eagles/Ravens.
That’s a FOX game.
Fox, or the channel that’s supposed to be Fox (Channel 5, but listed as DWTTG, weird) is showing an “MLB Player’s Poll”. I’m confused.
All I can conclude then is that the game isn’t on in your market.
Not sure why, since the Ravens are on the road, and on a different network, as well as FOX being single-game today. I can’t help you.
Thanks anyways. I would be prioritizing the Yankee game even if I could watch it.
I remember in 2008 when the Bucs had a rare SNF game, at home, up against Game 7 of the ALCS, which was in St. Pete.
Coincidentally, the Yankees clinched the 2009 ALCS on the same night as a Giants SNF in the Meadowlands.
Let’s please give Hiro some fucking RUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well the Giants’ defense is already pissing me off.
Cautious optimism. They’re looking better at the plate, and Kuroda should be able to go deep. See how long the positive attitude lasts. The Giants if they run the ball effectively should have no trouble with Tampa Bay…
Tim McCarver was so fucking horrendously ignorant during yesterday’s game. He ranted and raved endlessly about how holding pitchers to pitch counts is “ridiculous”. He was mocking the Dodgers (if I recall correctly) players for having congratulated one of their batters in a game he saw for a 14 pitch AB that ended in an out.
Does he really think there are no physiological or biomechanical limits on what a pitcher can do in one game? Does he think they should just pitch every day until they blow their arms out?
Why is this ignorant slob allowed to broadcast national games?
Yea, I brought this up.
I was on a plane watching on DirectTV, and I started cursing McCarver out loud and my wife had to grab me and shut me up.
It’s a long way to the top if you wanna Hirok-and-Roll.
HIRO-K!!!!!!!!!!
Guys I have a joke for you, what concert costs 45 cents?
I think I know. I won’t ruin it yet.
Dunno, what concert?
Fifty Cent opening for Nickleback.
Groan.
Thank you, I’ll be here all week, be sure to tip your waitresses and the bartender.
My wife thinks it’s hilarious!
Pretend you made it up yourself!
Hahahahah! I already told her it was one of the RAB game-thread crew.
I stole it from tumblr, so feel free to take full credit for it.
Ha I was right! The only 2 bands/artists I could think of with money in the name.
Eli throws to the open tackle-eligible instead of the open running back. Results predictable.
It was a designed play to Beatty. No one expects the freaking LT to catch a pass.
But Bradshaw was so open. Can’t believe Eli didn’t see him.
Can you just give me scoring updates? I’m guessing it’s still 0-0.
6-3 Giants 2:00 left quarter
God dammit, Bennett.
HiROK is on a ROLL.
Awesome!!!!
Nine strikeouts right now.
HiroK: “Nunez at short? OK, I’ll just strike everybody out.”
Heh, great minds NP&H.
Heh. I think this means you owe me a beer or something.
Well consider this your voucher for a free beer if I ever run into you in person.
HIROK.
Hiroki Kuroda: “LOL wut? My team’s defense sucks? No probs, I just strike them all out!”
I wonder that if that we make the playoffs and the rotation lines up right, would sentiment or salary keep Kuroda from being the Number 1 starter?
More sentiment than salary I think, but CC would definitely be our game 1 starter.
CC would be able to pitch Game 4 on 3 days rest whereas I doubt Kuroda could do that.
Not sure that’s a good thing at this point.
Hopefully CC can get on a roll soon.
True. If the Nova we saw yesterday is for real it might be better to have him start game 4 behind CC, Kuroda, and Pettitte. This assumes Pettitte looks good in game action, however.
I’d actually want to start Kuroda in Game 3 at home. Whichever of Pettitte/Hughes/Nova is pitching the best starts Game 2.
That’d be nice, but I doubt it ever happens.
OMG ANDRUW GOT ON BASE!!!!!!
From Andruw, I’ll take that.
Eli with an interception at the Giants’ 30. Awesome.
That’s the only kind of running into pitches Andruw has done lately.
God damn…the sound off the bat and the crowd got me really excited there.
Just got under it. shit
Fuck you for showing that Tex replay, TBS.
Tampa with a touchdown.
10-6 Tampa? Let me guess, our secondary got burned somewhere?
Yea, they left Coe 1 on 1 with Jackson.
But it was set up by an Eli INT where he made a terrible read/throw/decision.
And Diehl’s out of the game with a knee injury.
Ugh, we need Eli to be acceptional, like he was last season, to make the playoffs because our running game is probably worse than it was last season, Reese did nothing to upgrade our secondary or LineBackers, and our D-line is great, but just another year older.
Acceptional?
They brought in Rivers, but he’s out today after playing well last week. They were counting too much on Thomas coming back. And Amukamara can’t stay healthy.
I’m really upset about Amukamara not being able to stay on the field, I expect him to be great if he can ever stay healthy for more than two weeks at a time.
Yea, he’s not playing today. I don’t expect to see him on Thursday then, either. High ankle sprains suck.
exceptional**** wow. I’m having an off day…
WHAAAT? How did the Rays get SEVEN runs when the Yankees are batting???!!
Kidding, obviously. Screw the Bucs.
Wait, I’m confused. There’s an out recorded on the scoreboard, but I didn’t see a strikeout.
i love when i finally get a day off to watch the yankees, and it’s hirok pitching. offense better spot that man some runs
Heh is the Jeter bunt attempt just him trolling Longoria’s hammy?
That’s what John thinks. Just letting you know you’re sharing thoughts with John Sterling.
*kills self*
Giants are dropping like flies now. Diehl’s out with a knee injury. Hixon is being looked out for a concussion following a helmet to helmet hit. Bradshaw got his neck smashed back and he’s getting an X-ray on it. And now Hynoski catches a pass, gets upended at the knees and is on the ground.
Well, I said that I was happy after the 2007-2008 SuperBowl Championship, and would be happy if they never won again for my natural life, and last season was gravy =/ I’d still like them to at least be healthy and competitive.
NOONIE!!
He didn’t even lose his helmet.
This is why nix should never play.
Nix wouldn’t even be on the roster if Nunez showed an ability to field competently on a regular basis.
RISP. Hits. I love you Derek.
WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those small-balling Yankees.
Captain Amazing keeps getting it done.
MVP type season
we would have a lot less wins without Jeter
CAPTAIN
Ankle looked pretty good there. That’s classic Jeter baserunning.
Eli throws another pick that gets returned into Giants territory and will get a horse collar penalty on top of it.
Sounds like I should be thrilled that I can’t watch the game.
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tum.....o1_500.gif
the Fundamentally Sound Rays didn’t do such a good job on that relay there…
Alex…literally just don’t strike out, or pop out.
That’s the most usefull thing swisher has done in a month
Nice work Jete. Random but a friend of mine met Matt Moore at the MLB fancave. I had no idea they brought players there, might start looking into it.
Great baserunning by Noonie and the Cspt. Nice bunt by Swish. About time they played some small ball.
Bunting in that situation is dumb.
No it isn’t
Yes it is. Jeter would have scored on ARod’s hit if he was on second.
FALLACY
Greg’d
What actually happened in this particular case is irrelevant. The reason it is smart to bunt there is that he then could have scored on an out.
Like the bunt, swish would have been unproductive
I love the bunt. Hiroki’s on the mound and might only need 2 runs today. Get that run in and Alex can do it if they pitch to him.
Lulz @ gameday, according to Gameday Alex just became a lefty.
Haha, thought it was just my computer.
Tampa just went up 17-6. The offense is failing the defense since Tampa’s two touchdown drives have been 28 and 13 yards.
I like the bunt. C’mon A-Rod!
Another game, another mistake in the field by Upton.
Do.not.want.
He does seem pretty awful in the field, pass.
Yes! Small ball FTW!
Nice! I thought that was going to be a busted at-bat after strike two.
A rod
Just like yesterday, they pitched to A-Rod when they could have IBBed, and he RISPHITTED!!!!!!
Arod found clutch while on the dl.
throw a parade….punch and judy hitter….RBI’s……..
………overrated…slow….Centaur……
/stuart a’d
fewer rbis than ike davis……..
Not enough ellipses.
arod sucks….extend him then throw a parade….
wow he got a hit….ground ball power….parades….
ive never been to a parade….can we throw one after we get ike davis…..
….grumble….grumble…..ike davis……grumble….rbi
…swisher with a single…give him a raise….
Just not Eli’s day so far, is it?
Two picks. Giants need to get their act together.
Well they did start of slowly last year, too. Not that I would recommend that as a strategy.
All on the offense so far.
A-Rod = CLUTCH!!
Please be taking.
Love the running game
Wait…what? Did Alex just straight up steal third w/ a lefty at bat?! Is it 1995?!
He’s lost a step, but the dude doesn’t get enough credit for his baseball awareness/acumen.
A-Rod is such a great baserunner.
No GIDP’s here.
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(WordPress just yelled at me for posting comments too quickly!)
STOP!!@#$%$@#!
Love,
WordPress
Wow, those extra two legs really do help.
Alex is a great baserunner!
Martin might want to think about swinging at strikes.
Beating them at their own game. Someone commented that as a key before the series started. very true
Before his DL-stint I’ll admit I could get easily angry at A-rod for not producing (though not on the level of stuart a). He has been playing great since he’s returned; its obvious the Yanks really missed him.
I know it’s because a lefty is pitching, but I hate the back to back combo of Martin and jones, especially with Grandy heating up.
To be fair, Martin seems to be heating up a bit too.
Glad to eat crow on that one
He’s aiming
COLTRAINE!!!!!
Russ!!!!
Mussell goes big fly!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Martin!
This inning just has everything, doesn’t it? Very entertaining.
Ok, scratch that. One comment I’m glad to take back
SAM PEARCE!!
Russell!!!
Coltrane!!!! It seems that Mike’s wish of scoring lots of runs is coming true
Heh, maybe you should lean into more pitch, Andruw.
Big jack. Good things happen when they press the D and the pitcher.
Would be nice for Kuroda to settle in for a solid, 7IP/2R type performance now.
who are they and what have they done with our lineup?
WTF!?!?!? That was right at his fucking noggin!!!!
Stupid warning. How the fuck was that intentional??
Wow Moore, and the Rays in general really looking bad right now. And as I type that, Maddon gets thrown out because his pitcher almost took Grandy’s head off? Shut up.
He wants to fire his team up.
Don’t you think maybe having the pitching coach go out and talk to Moore should have been the first move, considering it’s the 3rd inning?
he already went out. it’d have to be a pitching change
Must have missed that part. I was making a bagel.
I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with what he’s doing. I think he was legitimately angry. The term “must win” game is overusued, but this is one of them for the Rays. Similar with what we saw with Girardi, tempers get short when the race heats up.
I don’t think Moore threw at Granderson intentionally at all, and Maddon flipped, plus he is probably trying to get some emotion going for his team, which is flat right now. Let’s hope they stay that way!
that punk maddon neads to gtf off the field.
The fuck happened? customer came in and I heard chaos from the radio.
Maddon got tossed after Moore threw behind Grandy’s head that was obviously unintentional.
It was coming right at his head. It only ended up behind because he ducked.
That doesn’t make it intentional.
I never said I thought it was intentional.
ok but it still looked unintentional, just look at Moore’s reaction. I’m ok with the benches getting warned though, unless Kuroda hits someone and gets tossed, then i’ll be pissed.
Moore nearly took Grandy’s head off (most likely not inentional), both teams got warned, Maddon complained, Maddon got tossed.
Chaos? On the radio?
I think you must be mistaken. Sterling and Waldman would never get confused by the action on the field.
I watch a lot of NBA. I’m wondering how often coaches/players would get thrown out if NBA refs were as sensitive as MLB umpires. I think both coaches and 85% of the players would get thrown out, every single game.
How often do you a see a NBA coach get into ref’s faces the way some umpires let coaches do before tossing them?
Paul O’Neill would’ve been Rasheed Wallace.
Wait, why was Maddon ejected??
Moore almost hit Grandy in the heaad (unintentionally, I’m sure) umpire issued a warning, and there seemed to be some jabbering back and forth between Maddon, the umpire, and the Yankee bench. Maddon kept going, and got thrown out.
Oh wow. I wonder what Maddon was going on about then. Moore looked terrible that inning. Thanks!
The camera was on Maddon and he never seemed to get heated at all. That was a really quick and unnecessary toss.
He didn’t seem heated, but he also didn’t shut up. He kept going.
He just told him he was wrong several times, which he was. I’m sure umps don’t like that but they need to be a little more patient given the importance of these games.
Meh. Maddon should know that you can’t tell the ump he’s wrong several times and not get tossed.
Hahahaha this inning is just so AWESOME!!
I think he was trying to hit Granderson again!
Falling apart. Kuroda has to stomp down any hope this next inning. Like a 8 pitch gfy inning
Well, you got your runs, Mr. Kuroda. Shut ‘em down.
Nice inning. Hopefully its length doesn’t get Kuroda out of sync.
Here are 3 different players OPSes with RISP, anyone care to guess whose?
Player A) .708
Player B) .728
Player C) .696
“I can tell you if you list rbis….”
- stuart
B is probably Martin.
Montero and Saltalamacchia?
Nope.
Lol… took me a while to figure out the .696.
The first 2 are still low though, considering the quality/expectations of the hitter.
Yeah I know the other 2 aren’t great but in this context, it’s pretty hilarious. (assuming you correctly guessed C, which I think you did)
I’m assuming it’s a stewey reference.
A. Alex
B. Cano
C. Jones
first 2 are right.
A is ARod
B is Cano
C is Ike Davis
but RBIs are all that matter, right?
MARTIN! BLAST! (I know I’m late. Watching some football on and off.)
Well, took one pitch for there to not be a shutdown inning.
Moore threw 45 pitches that inning.
groan…
oh yikes.
Ike Davis strikes out on a pitch in the dirt.
Ike Davis? I guess some minor leagues games continue.
In kurodas defense, 1mistake after sitting all that time is not bad
That’s fine. Was worried about the long sit, but Kuroda looked good minus that one pitch.
Safe to say Victor Cruz has put Week 1 behind him
So I put on the Giant game for a bit, in that time Hiroki allowed a solo homer and Eli threw a pick-six…
Don’t do that again, please.
Don’t put on the Giant game again!
Yea, that was unbefuckinglievable.
I have no idea why they were running that pattern on a 3rd and 3 when they had no timeouts and weren’t yet in field goal range. Eli is trying to outdo that 3 Pick 6 game from ’07 against Minnesota I guess.
Oh I forgot to mention, I put on the Giant game just in time to hear a nice punt return get called back. I probably should’ve turned it off at that very point.
Giants are falling apart and are staring 0-2 in the face. And this loss would squarely be on Eli’s head. I’m stunned.
They’re not out of it yet. The defense has only given up 3 points on their own.
But the Giants offense better stop shooting itself in the foot.
DFA Kuorda. The playoff starters should be, 1. Hughes, 2. Nova, 3. Phelps, 4. CC
This allows them to skip the inconsistent CC and watch (and laugh at) Kuorda, as he is forced into retirement.
Fianlly, make Ike Davis the player/manager/GM he has the ability to be.
It sure seems like the Yanks never get Zobrist out.
No mistake about it – Eli is one of my favorite players in the league. I’m one of his biggest backers.
And though it’s helping the team I root for, I’m not too pleased to see Eli looking like 2005 Eli today.
Figgin Nunie lol.
Nunie, if you could only field. We like everything else.
It really is a shame.
He should be the DH.
I’d certainly take him over Ibanez/Jones at this point.
I’d certainly give him Jones’ ABs now.
that Nunez guy… now he’s a ball player
no no…he’s not a ball player until John and Suzyn deem it so.
Eduardo Nunez: making things happen (and mostly good things, so far)
Nice SOLID single Eduardo!
Errrrr….error. But Jeters “hit” the other day was not…hmmm, this official scorer has some splaining to do!
Nunez with the wheels!
Steal home Nunie!
Yanks are attacking today. Love it
More runs.
FINISH THESE FOOLS. i think tampas done for the year.
And we said that last year before they punk’d the Red Sox.
It was really the beer-and-chicken lovin’ Red Sox who punk’d themselves, blowing a nine-game lead in September, going 7-20 to finish the year. The Rays were okay, but not great. They kind of drifted into the greatest September collapse we’ll probably ever see. The happiest team with that September collapse (besides the Rays) was the Braves, who had their own amazing collapse, which someone has now been forgotten.
Swish needs a week off
Fucking Swisher, should have had him bunting again.
Swisher shouldn’t be batting second, more like 6th.
So close. Ah well, still gets a run in.
So close!!!
Loud sac fly!
warning track power….two RBI’s…be lucky to hit 60 this year…extend him……than throw a parade….
give him a raise….if he was ike davis….he would have hit a 6 run homer….punch and judy……
…
…………..
Beatrice?!
Hahaha I feel like I’ve succeeded in my mocking.
Well done, sir. Well done.
Oof, me and A-Rod both thought that was gone.
Almost. I’ll take the sac fly though.
A rod flicks the bat and almost goes yard. The power is back
that’s what i thought was crazy. barely anything behind that swing and it still almost went out
HAHAHAHAH! What a dork!!!!!!!!!!
LMAO!!!!!!!!
Man you couldn’t write out a script to make the Rays look worse overall right now.
Teix would have scored.
ike davis would have scored.
I can’t wait for October 1st, when I’ll never have to see that “Drive By” commercial again.
For those of you who dislike or doubt Nunez’s abilities you can see that he brings quite an amount of energy to this team. If you plAY him frequently he will contribute much more than the Geritol squad, i.e. Jones, Ibanez and others.
The only ability anyone really doubts is his fielding. I think he all like the rest of his game.
His fielding has been truly horrible. Didn’t he have more than one multi-error game near the beginning of the season?
Yeah. The only reason he was sent down was because of his glove, the Yankees clearly wanted him in the bigs.
He has ten steals in less than 30 games played this year.
I don’t think anyone’s ever doubted Nunez’s bat, it’s just a question of whether he creates more runs than his putrid defense gives away.
His baserunning seems improved from last year, which certainly helps the case for getting him regular ABs.
I like Nunez, don’t get me wrong, but am I the only one who feels he’s played a little over his head offensively early this season and for the last couple days. I feel like he can be “found out” if he gets regular ABs over a couple months.
I think if he played reguarly he’d be a .280/.330/.420 type of hitter, with 40+ steals. Certainly solid numbers for a SS. Unfortunately he’d also make 40+ errors.
Those would be great numbers for a 2,7,8 or 9 hitter, maybe even leadoff against some LHP…I just wish he could figure out how to wait till he has the ball to throw and throw a decent ball to first on a regular basis.
He’s got the arm strength…hopefully something clicks and he works like mad on it all off season.
He should be able to play a cleaner 2B, no? Clearly he doesn’t have the power of Cano but he could be a decent in house replacement if Robbie prices himself off the 2014 roster. He certainly has some skill sets that’s translates into success, especially if they could limit his brick-handedness. That’s way in the future but with Jeter playing like he’s 28 not 38, it makes one wonder if they would consider re-exploring Nunez as a ultra-utility player. I’ll stop now since I’m looking to far into the future for a game thread.
They have a girl in the booth for the Daily News fifth, I didn’t realize there where girl beat writers for the Yankees and Daily News. She sounds so nervous though…she’s begging for a quick inning.
Hirokruisin’
Holy shit! How did Cano make that out????
He’s good at defense. Even though he’s lazy.
How many second basemen in all of baseball have the arm and the “throw across the body” ability to get that out after the bobble?
Great job by Kuroda getting the quick inning.
BAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Where’s your Fuld cape now, bitches?!
Christ, now Tampa gets a big kickoff return.
I’m hoping we get to see Melky 2.0 in this one.
That’d be fun. I forgot he was even with the big club.
Free C-Dick.
Absolutely!! Put C-Dick in! He’d shoot one up the middle!
The legend of Sam Fuld goes back on the DL again.
Andruw Del Boca Vista just called.
I haven’t been paying attention to it, what’s Kuroda’s pitch count? I mean he struck out a lot of people early in the game and was in the mid 30s in the second and haven’t payed attention to it since.
The last inning was real quick, I’m sure that helps. Wasn’t he around 65ish?
Make that 68, I was close without checking.
Cool, if he can get us through 7 or 8 and we put up another couple of runs I’d love to see Warren in the game.
It would be nice to break this open for a stress free win and see some of the cal-ups, for sure! We could all use a rout.
68 pitches through five innings.
Pat D lemme get a Giants update!!
27-13 Bucs.
Boy, have the Rays overused Matt Moore. He has the best arm in the game but at 23 there is no way he should be pitching this many innings. Remember that when someone says Strasberg etc. should be pushing 200 innings.
Oh boy.
Walk and infield hit. And now we sweat.
Damnit Hirok! Settle down!!
Damnit…if you’re a Yankee fan get out of the way!!!
That guy should be thrown from the stadium, by his fellow attendees.
Need to catch that Sam.
And somebody needs to punch the guy with the Swish jersey in the face.
You have to catch that, 3 run bomb next
Tex gets that.
So might Pearce, if he didn’t have that dude in the Swisher jersey to compete with.
Fuck Kuroda, don’t make this interesting.
god dammit
Never easy with this team.
Fricken’ Rays.
It’s impossible to have an easy game against them.
Stop with the nibble, he ain’t biting!
Never easy man…never easy.
The saying of the 2012 NYY.
oh shit.
27-13 Tampa with 6 minutes left in the 3rd.
Fuuuuuuck
Motherfucker.
Un-fucking real.
C’MON! Stess free please! My heart can’t take this shit!
Fuck.
Fuck!
And here comes all the breaks
Walks, crappy bounces, crappy fans…
It’s always trying watching this team, especially against the Rays.
FUCK ME IN THE GOAT ASS!!!
Kuroda with 2 2strike walks this inning.
Can’t do that with this lead man.
Joe has to get him out of there.
Jerry Meals wanted to call that fair.
At this point, there’s no choice but to accept that.
Whatever. I’ll take it.
Oh, this is what you guys warned me about.
fuck you bj
File this under “things I don’t normally say”.
This inning should be over. The baseball gods are not smiling upon the Yankees.
PHEW!
Ok Offense put a few more up on the board now!
Man. Started out as such a dominant start, too.
First walk looked like strike 3. Then an infield hit. Then a dropped foul pop/fan F up leads to another walk. Then a hit on a bad hop double play ball.
I know you’re not blaming Kuroda, just pointing out how shitty that inning was.
Let’s get some back
Well, they survived the Murphy’s Law inning.
Two run lead but they’re into our pen now.
I would bring him back out, I think he has another inning in the tank.
Agree. But he’s at 100 pitches and Joe’s binder says take him out.
Ok, we still have the lead…but let’s put some more runs on the board.
Eli tries his hardest to throw another pick on a 3rd down from the 20. Giants settle for field goal. 27-16 Bucs, less than a minute in the 3rd.
Jeter will enjoy tomorrow off, most players wouldn’t even be playing but Jeter is THE MAN! Similiar to Ike Davis.
Fucking Swisher, what is he doing batting 2d.
That view from the batters box sucked.
Thats in the same place as ball 4 to Lobaton.
how the hell was that strike 3 on alex?
wade davis reliever >>>>> wade davis starter
Boonetang.
And hey, Phelps got up. That should make one commenter very happy.
Martellus Bennett is fucking infuriating.
C-Dick gets that.
I feel like Granderson usually misreads the ball off the bat. Is that just me?
We should move Grandy to LF and Gardy to CF next season.
Or am I in the minority?
Not at all. A lot of people here feel that Granderson isn’t the greatest CF’er, I personally think if he wasn’t as athletic/fast as he is, he would be generally considered a BAD centerfielder by everybody.
I think the majority opinion is that Granderson should not be playing CF next season. Seems the only question is should he be moved to another position or another team.
This match-up makes me a tad nervous.
I’d rather Phelps pitch very carefully to Pena and go after Jennings, personally.
Looks like that’s what he’s doing.
The Giants offense can’t do shit inside the red zone, as usual.
Slightly bitter, no? I mean they did when the Super Bowl not even a year ago…
Well they tend to suck in the red zone traditionally. I mean, I’m going all the way back to the 1990 NFC Championship game.
27-19 Tampa.
I know I’m asking a lot, but would it be unreasonable to ask our Defense to make a stop and our offense to score a touchdown?
The defense held them to a field goal after a big kick return, then got an INT that the offense could only turn into a FG, and then they got another stop.
I just really want to make sure that we’re within striking distance w/ 4:00 minutes to go (usually when the offense clicks and plays their best.)
Spoiled Giants fan!
Last time my team won a Super Bowl, I was in diapers.

Not spoiled at all.
Sorry for judging!
I wonder if I would feel similarly if Dallas won.
It was more than just winning though…it was such a great game, against probably the greatest team of all time.
C’mon, Phelps!!
YEAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PHELPSY!!!
BIG K Phelps!
Love ya, David.
NASTY pitch
Beautiful, Phelps. Good game plan there. Pitch around Pena, either walk him or make him swing at something out of the zone. Get Jennings. Bravo.
The only thing that makes me happy to hear Michael Kay’s voice is driving around in my car being forced to listen to John Sterling. Even worse when the Yankees are giving up runs. It’s simply impossible to tell half the time by how he makes a call if a ball is going to be a simply caught ball for an out or is going to fly over the head of the OFer.
I have had to deal with him for anywhere from 7-9 innings for every game this season except for Sunday night games and the two west coast trips.
And I think you’re just such a trooper for it.
Huge out?
Huge out.
On that TBA Closer graphic…holy crap, Chapman has 119 strikeouts on the season? That’s more than some starters. Crazy. For reference, D-Rob had 100 last year.
*TBS
Mo had 130 in 1996.
But that’s a first ballot fall of famer we’re comparing him too. 119 is damn impressive for a short reliever, and he’s still got a couple of weeks to add to that.
Phelps to the pen is a great side benefit of getting Pettitte back. Another pitcher that can get lefties and righties out.
And one capable of getting more than 1-3 outs.
Raul Ibanez’s knocks Wade Davis out before he gets to the plate. May be his biggest accomplisment in weeks.
Now pinch hit for Ibanez before he gets to the plate.
So will Girardi PH again or will he leave Ibanez in to face a lefty?
…sadly, no.
Ugh. I’m usually a big supporter of Girardi. I don’t think he’s a great manager, but I think he largely does a good job. But for the life of me I cannot understand why Ibanez is facing a lefty in the later innings of a game that does not feature a 5+ run lead.
…especially with September expansions. Then again, who was available off the bench? I hadn’t considered that part.
PH McGehee for Ibanez, Dickerson in LF.
McGehee could hit and be replaced by Dickerson in the field, right? Who’s dog did McGehee kill anyway?
The only Yankee who has hit worse than Ibanez against LHP this year is Chavez. Any of McGehee, Nix, Ichiro, Dickerson, Cervelli, or even Chris Stewart would probably be an upgrade.
Sure. Leave Ibanez in to face a lefty. Don’t want to lose his glove in the OF.
Why didn’t the PH for Ibañez?
I don’t think anyone here can answer that question. We’re all pretty confused.
Cause we’re winning duh. No need to pinch hit when we have the lead.
Apparently Girardi is impressed by a 173/218/231 batting line.
Swisher cannot hit in pressure filled games. Giver Dickerson a chance. As I said on sept 1, swisher will not hit 200 the rest of the season.
I’d rather they give Dickerson a chance.
What IS his average since 9/1/12 by the way?
.132/.233/.189 in September (not including today’s 0-fer)
Last night I was trolled hard for saying we should give C-Dick a chance in RF if Swisher doesn’t re-sign.
That was on Pinstriped Bible though.
Maybe if he get a righty to spell him against lefties. I prefer a Justin Upton trade if Swisher walks.
Ummm…. strike three?
I sense a lead-off walk
Thankfully, I was wrong.
*sigh*
Would have been real nice to give D-Rob/Soriano an extra day off.
Flipping back to the Yankees game and I miss Cruz catching an 80 yard TD. 2 pt conversion good. Tie game with 6:40 to go.
That blitz burned the Bucs and Barber couldn’t handle Cruz’s speed there.
This flipping back and forth between games isn’t working for you today…unless both teams win!
Indeed.
Unfortunately now that they’re in the 4th quarter, I’m not flipping back and forth.
*now*
Nunez looked like he knew what he was doing there!
WHERE’S MY PIZZA?!
I need this pizza before the end of the Yankees game.
What toppings did you order?
Cheese pie.
Just cheese? Boring. Next time get bacon and onion. Best pizza ever.
That sounds gross. I have this pie all to myself. Going to eat it now.
Gross? Please, try it and get back to me. Thin crust, if possible.
I’ve had it, and it’s tasty, I still prefer my pie though.
Will do jjyank!
Nah, best pie ever is pepperoni and onions, thin crust, extra crispy.
Agreed on thin crust. I like pepperoni, but bacon is just the best food on this planet.
Also a big fan of BBQ chicken pizzas.
you’d love eating as an employee at the place I used to work. The Pizza guy/manager would make specialty pies for the crew every Friday. One of them was grilled chicken breast in bbq sauce with peppers, red oinions, bacon, cheddar, and Monterey Jack cheese.
That….sounds like heaven.
Another one of my favorites was the chicken fingers and french fry pie, w/ our home made honey mustard as sauce. I don’t even like honey mustard, but this thing was heavenly. My absolute favorite though was our buffalo wing slice.
That sounds amazing too. I absolutely love honey mustard sauce.
Is this a Papa John’s promo, or is it Dominos?
Not a chain. I’m not gross.
One of the chains had a promo going depending on the Yankees score from the day prior’s game. I thought maybe you were referencing that.
Nice D-Rob. We’ve missed that pitch.
DRob rediscovers his curve.
Per gameday Joyce got tossed there.
Yup. Arguing balls and strikes, apparently. Seemed like a real quick toss, lot’s of players have a couple words for the umpire in situations like that. He must have said something pretty mean.
Umpires really need to take into account the game situation and the season situation. Throwing players out in tight races and games should rarely happen.
Yeah, he didn’t get in the ump’s face or anything. Usually the whole balls and strikes thing applies more to the bench.
He deserved to be tossed. He said “That’s fucking terrible” way too many times.
Are you on the YES feed? I have TBS and I couldn’t hear anything he said.
I’m watching TBS, the camera was on him the whole time. You don’t even need to be a lip reader to see exactly what happened.
I wasn’t watching closely enough to lip read.
Didn’t really have to watch that closely, it was totally obvious what he said no less than 4 times before they cut away.
I rewound the DVR to verify a couple times.
Fancy. I don’t have a DVR. I probably was typing something here after the K, rather than watching Joyce.
Still don’t think he should have been tossed.
BTW Where was his manager? Should have been out of the dugout faster than Usain Bolt.
Maddon already got tossed. Bench coach probably didn’t want to risk the same fate.
d-rob dealing, giants storming back to tie
life is good (for the moment)
Nicks hurt on the right ankle.
/moment over.
never say life is good
you’re just asking for trouble
What in the world was Joyce arguing about? That wasn’t even a marginal strike (it had plenty of the plate)
I guess with the shadow he didn’t track it?
With the way he was arguing you’d think he tracked it all the way, but obviously not.
Granderson goes the other way? wow. tack on let’s go.
Great catch by Bennett.
Nice throw TD by Eli, and nice curves by D-Rob. Giants now leading.
Fuck yeah, never count the Giants out
Looking at some of the stats: if not for Eli’s terrible play in the first half, I firmly believe this would’ve been a rout in favor of the Giants.
EEEELLLIIIIIIII
I should tell you the story of the 2007-2008 Super Bowl Game. That was an epic night for me as a Giants fan. Might need to save that one for the open thread though.
That lead didn’t last long.
Wow. Freeman throws a bomb to tie the game at the 2-minute warning.
MFIKY better get the low strike that Badenhop got to Nunez.
I don’t think Kuroda is injured the way he pitched today. However I do think that he has been sputtering the last few starts around the 6th inning. This may be a sign of fatigue. Sabbathia on the other hand is either injured or has arm fatigue or simply the number of innings of his career have finally caught up to him. In either case it is not good.
MFIKY!
Yeah MFIKY!! Two more outs and I can switch over to the Giant game!!
That was so textbook how they played Upton there. Very nice.
Shitty defense is shitty.
Jesus Christ charge that ball A-Rod damn.
Meals didn’t call him out? WTF
He only ends the games with shitty calls. With 1 out it’s too early for him to put the game away
Thank you!
Untuck.
Go A’s.
Boo YA
FABULOSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice win.
Now, go A’s!
UNTUCK!
Un. Tuck.
Could have been a prettier win, but a win is a win is a win.
GO ATHLETICS!
Nice! Good bounce back by MFIKY after the error.
This game almost had flukish crap win by TB written all over it.
For some reason, even when the had the bases loaded, I was never worried. Yet, it was annoying close considering it was heading to a blowout at one point.
This has been a wild ass game at Giants Stadium.
So I guess the Yankees didn’t get swept.
UNTUCK.
Go Cowboys!
Go A’s!
Had a fun time in my first game thread guys! Thanks!
Game threads are always fun when they’re winning.
It gets dark when they’re not!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Though I can’t agree regarding the Cowboys.
Reddick puts the A’s up 2-0!
+2. He’s also on my fantasy team.
Awesome.
i’ll take that w. also, saints 0-2 to start the season. an a’s win and a giants win will make this a very good day indeed.
This is still not over. This is fucking ridiculous.
Oh, they’ve gotta call that incomplete.
I was just about to ask 1. if you were still around 2. if it was complete but HUGE PICK GAME WON!!!
Yeah, I thought it was complete, but then I saw the replay it was totally an incomplete. The official saw it that way, too.
Giants win.
giants game is bonkers
Sigh. What a game that just wanted to make me kill myself several times overall.
…Giants or the Yankees? : -)
Giants.
Like I said earlier, I’m looking at the team stats, and if it weren’t for Eli’s 1st half picks this should’ve been a rout in favor of the G-Men
First downs Gmen 31 Tampa 14
Total Yards: 604 to 307
Passing Yards: 510 to 228
Rushing: 94 to 79
Time of Pos: 33:29 to 26:31
So, the people of Tampa Bay are having a pretty bad day today, huh?
Also, lol Patriots.
The people of Tampa Bay don’t care about their sports teams, so I’m sure they’re doing OK.
