Game 155: Escape with a win
ByThere’s only a week left in the regular season, but the magic number to clinch the division still sits at seven. The Yankee control their own destiny but I don’t think anyone wants to see this thing go right down to the wire. Being able to rest some guys, particularly relievers, in that final series against the Red Sox would be nice. That’s why last night’s loss stung so much, it was a chance to inch closer to the division title and make life a little easier. The Yankees have a chance to atone for that loss this afternoon with their ace on the mound against a pitcher a) with a 5.9 BB/9 in nearly 80 innings this year, and b) starting on three days’ rest. Here’s the starting lineup…
RF Ichiro Suzuki
SS Derek Jeter
2B Robinson Cano
1B Nick Swisher
CF Curtis Granderson
3B Eric Chavez
DH Raul Ibanez
C Chris Stewart
LF Chris Dickerson
LHP CC Sabathia
This afternoon’s game is scheduled to start at 1:10pm ET and can be seen on YES. Enjoy.

Ace vs Scrub, this is a must win. Take this game and 3/4 in Toronto and it should just about do it. And please let CC get out of his own jams regardless of whether or not a RH batter is coming up.
Damn day, in the middle of the week, games… Hate them, and the fact that i’ve to work for a living.
In case this team makes the play offs, is there any day game scheduled??
Anyway, GO CC!! GO YANKS!!!
I don’t know if the tv schedule comes out until the teams are set. The Yankees usually play at night because of ratings so I hope they don’t have any games that start before work is over.
Probably, though they tend not to schedule the Yankees for day games during the week in the playoffs.
i really hope they don’t do that this year, that’s for sure.
I feel ya man. At least we have RAB to provide context that Game Day can’t.
That is actually cool!
I had something clever to say. Or it was just quoting something. Either way I can’t remember it now. I guess this is what happens when you don’t get out of bed until noon.
Get a job
Wish i had seen this when it was posted. Trying to get approved for training following my layoff.
But thanks for your concern.
Tochy touchy, Trish.
The problem with this is that we are assuming that the Orioles are going to win out.
They are having problems with the Blue Jays. If Tampa Bay can stick within 3 of the second wild card, then they will play hard to the end.
What problem are you referring to?
the “problem” that the Jays have handed the O’s their own asses for 2 nights running
Yeah, I don’t get it.
The Jays are just using the O’s for practice, getting ready to give the Yankees the usual fits in Rogers Centre this weekend.
Putting so much emphasis on last night’s loss.
“it was a chance to inch closer to the division title and make life a little easier ”
That’s is too much emphasis? That seems like exactly the right amount of emphasis.
Well, they ARE the second place team…when they lose, our magic number goes down. It’s the circle of life.
I’m talking about the Yankee loss, not the Orioles loss.
What’s wrong with being disappointed they lost? Then the magic number would be even lower, which would be pretty cool.
Nothing. But for people to say, “THIS COST US THE DIVISION” “We could have clinched it!” is a bit stupid. People did say that last night.
So wait, that’s the problem you were referring to in the first post? Kind of came out of nowhere.
Well, that is certainly over the top.
Whether or not the Orioles lose, it is STILL A VERY GOOD IDEA FOR THE YANKEES TO WIN.
If the Yankees win a game, then WHATEVER HAPPENS IN THE ENSUING GAMES, the Yankees are STILL one game better off.
This is helpful if they lose a game. It is helpful even if they win every game and the O’s lose every game. Because then the Yankees have one more game they can rest guys.
If you haven’t noticed, this team DESPERATELY needs rest. Cano, Boone, Soriano, Kuroda (notice how he always flames out in the 5th or so now), CC, etc.
So a blown opportunity is not made “okay” just because the Orioles also happened to lose the same day.
EVERY team desperately needs rest. And as you know in some cases, rest before the playoffs is not good thing.
This does not make your “LOSSES DONT MATTER WHEN THE O’S LOSE THE SAME NIGHT” mantra any less stupid.
(I also have a really hard time believing that our overworked pitchers would be better off with more work rather than less over the next week.)
Last night, I didn’t say that it didn’t matter at all. I said the importance of the loss was diminished, not eliminated.
independent variables
someone get DLowe warming up now… thats the kind of game we need.
Ordering pizza and going to a friends house. Enjoy the game guys. Get that W big fella.
Don’t you kids have school?
I guess there’s some playing hookey going on here.
*roars*
Seriously, I had an awesome set up senior year where I had basically 10:30-1 off, but I still had to go back for the second half of my day.
I would loathe that with a burning passion.
I much rather get all my shit out of the way as soon as possible.
7:25-12:26
Jewish holiday!
This explains why one of my staff is missing…..after I texted her wondering where she was.
#culturalsensitivity
How many of you are able to listen to games at work? I’ve had bosses who come by and ask the score and others who blow a gasket if they know someone is listening. I work at night now so not being able to listen would be a real pain in the ass.
I’m allowed to, but the signal in here is too crappy for me to listen to more than 2-3 seconds at a time before it buffers again.
I have a TV on in my office that is suppose to be tuned to CNN in case something bad happens. I’m the point person for disasters. During Yankee day games it’s on YES. I’m then the point person for scores. If something bad happens, eventually Kay will make reference to it during the game.
Just curious, where do you work?
NYC
I’ve commented on how awful the at bat app radio has been, but the recent update I just downloaded seems to have fixed the problem. I’m listening from my iphone (first time in…ever it hasn’t buffered over and over) FYI I’m inside an office building on 26/8th. Check your app store for an update.
Gameday Audio on the iPhone. only way to travel.
I am, nobody here cares about baseball, but i don’t think they would like to find out that i’m listening a game, so i try not to react when shit happens, and sing out loud and dance a little every once in a while so they think i’m listening music. :/
During last night’s broadcast, Michael Kay mentioned that the winner of the WC game can reset its roster after the game.
Now I realize that Bud Selig isn’t the brightest bulb, but does his entire office also consist of morons?
As a consequence of that stupid rule, each WC team will carry only 1 (or possibly 2) starters, and then load up on bullpen or bench players. Why in the world would you carry 4 starters if you get to reset your if you win that game?
It will certainly make for some interesting rosters, ones that you would never see under any other circumstances.
Isn’t that similar to the tiebreaker game, when you have a 40 man roster? That doesn’t seem to have caused any problems in the past, or led to any usual issues.
Please, no Boone Logan today!
Ahh…don’t have to be at work till 5 tonight, day game, breakfast for lunch. Good start to my day.
I hate you a little bit.
You using the At Bat 12 app? If so, is Suzyn back =P
nope.
…as much as a rag on the woman, I have no ill wishes towards her/her health. I hope she’s okay…
She’s fine. It’s a jewish holiday.
Ahh, I didn’t realize she observed Yom Kippur.
I do for gameday, but the signal goes in and out in this stupid building for the broadcast.
QUite frankly,if we allow ourselves to lose two out of three to this team..then we don’t deserve the division, simple as that.
But what if we win all 7 games after that?
We might still win the division but in Zack’s eyes we wouldn’t have DESERVED IT!!!
Listening to the game on the radio at work and holy crap…does everything need a sponsor? The official Ketchup and Mayo of the Yankees? THE NATIONAL ANTHEM???
Interesting wild card idea: The second wild card is eliminated. The wild card team must submit their rotation to the team they are playing in the division series. That team gets to choose one pitcher from that rotation who will not be allowed to pitch-for the entire playoffs. This negates the simple idea of taking your Ace off the staff in the first place.
Thoughts? I think it’s an interesting concept.
After playing 18 games against your division, there is no need to have a “play in game”. Its like the playoffs all season. The 2nd wild card totally de-values the regular season.
Deduno threw a gem at Fenway about six weeks ago.
Not that it means too much, but I would hope that this isn’t a two-way street.
Who is filling in for Waldman? I recognize the voice but can’t put a name to it.
Jeff Nelson
Ah, thanks.
Jeff Nelson
This pitcher has a 7.5 ERA against winning teams and a 7.5 ERA in day games. I bet today he “surprisingly” throws a “good game”, just like how Ricky Romero throws his only “good games” against the Yankees.
that said, the fightin Valentines have rolled over against the entire league, choosing to only fight against the Yankees.
The Yankees have rolled over the Red Sox this year.
If Pedroia and Ciriaco were not on their team we’d beat them every single time.
hey Yankees? please STOP FCKING SWINGING… this guy walks everything. take the free base you bunch of hacks!
Ichiro never walks, Jeter hardly walks, and Cano never walks.
Those three hitters define the word “hack”.
Not a good start.
Remember the Yankees have never seen Deduno before so they might have to go one time through the order.
Right now they are swing at his breaking pitches.
Anyone have stats about Cano vs the curveball? It seems like his kryptonite lately.
Still worth positive runs against the curveball, but producing at a much lower rate against it than in previous seasons.
It’s amazing how so many hitters in this lineup can be retired on offspeed pitches without even having them set up by fastballs.
The approach of these hitters is just terrible.
Sometimes I think my eight year-old son could strike out Cano and Granderson. His pitches won’t reach the plate from the MLB mound, but they’ll lunge and swing anyway. And Ichiro somehow would find a way to pop out to third.
Hello. Haven’t checked gamecast yet.
I sense negativity. what’s happening?
They swung at a few bad pitches
It was a lot more than “a few” in that first inning. Don’t try to sugar coat it. Ichiro swung at 2 pitches in a row that practically bounced on home plate.
Key words: “In that first inning”. It was one inning. The negativity at this point in the game is indeed overreacting.
Nobody is talking about overreacting or not in this thread. Saying that it was “a few” though when they swung at 6 or 7 pitches like that is a deliberate attempt to mislead.
…Not really. It was one inning. This early in the game, it’s still “a few”. If this keeps up the whole game, then maybe it’s fair to be really mad.
I don’t know. You can complain about the ABs I guess, but on the other hand saying he was “sugarcoating” seems pretty ridiculous.
The fact that the negativity is apparently palpable also seems to be over the top to me.
Cano is the best player of all time.
So Cano covered first base this time???
Beautiful play!
Cano, hell, that was a better play by Swisher!
Nice CC
How’d CC look? All I really heard on the radio was Sterling yelling a lot.
Nice defensive inning by Robbie there.
Gamecast had ball 3 right down the middle, haha
Happy now, guys?
two very different ways to get through the inning hitless. the ‘good’ pitcher needed alot of luck and some defense, whilst the ‘bad’ pitcher overpowered 3 straight hitters.
Can’t figure baseball, man… John Sterling was right.
Threw a 2-1 curvaball
This just in… John Sterling just informed us that Nick Swisher is an “excellent defensive first baseman”….
the fuck???
Well, is he? He’s not as good as Tex.
I don’t know…he used to be a 1b, maybe there’s something to that.
On the other hand, while I don’t think he’s BAD, I haven’t really seen anything to convince me that he’s particularly good.
I am going with average-to-slightly-above but athletic for a 1B.
but not a fantastic defensive 1b
That last play up the line with a runner running right at him and he does a 180 and even came close with the throw was a damn good play.
If not for the great play by Robbie he would have thrown it away, though.
It worked out, but VERY risky.
Bleh, Robbie was still late getting to the bag and really just lucky with a very nice bounce. Despite what the Yes booth thought it was a better play by Swisher.
Good on both sides, I guess.
Yes it was, thankfully.
STOP SWINGINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deduno has gotten his fastball over the plate the last two batters.
How’d CC look in the bottom half, I had to go pick up my lunch.
Hopefully they pull their heads out of their asses before the end of the game.
Why? That was all on Deduno.
Huh?
Deduno is forcing them to swing at pitches that bounce and get picked off first?
Well it doesn’t matter now, because Deduno is out of the game.
Good one Grandy.
I looked away, did anybody see what happened?
Nothing he lookeed fine, but now they have a lefty coming in against our lefty lineup.
Deduno is done. This usually doesn’t work out well for us.
well according to ESP we OPS .840 as a team vs. Duensing. Raul, Jeets and Swish kill him,
Raul has one hit. (2 AB)
thats still a .500! sample sizes FTW!
And Deduno’s coming out of the game.
This is lovely.
What happened to Deduno?
Of course Gardenhire brings in the lefty innings eater when we have 6 lefty bats in the line-up.
Its Brian Duensing who the Yankees have seen and have mashed. 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in his career
Oh good, this should go well with the 6 lefties in the lineup…
Ever heard of pinch hitting before?
In the 2nd inning?
That’s not allowed this early in the game according to Girardi. Nice try though.
I’m sure later on you’ll make something up to support his decision though, whatever it is.
What are you Girardi’s best friend? Do you know him? Does he call you at home?
This is all extra funny coming from you.
How’d that PH’er look for Ibanez there? When’s the last time he PH this early in the game? Hell, even when has he PH platoon-wise in the 5th or 6th, much less the 2nd or 3rd?
Wonder if Joe will PH Andruw in the 2nd inning to play the matchups.
All depends on what the binder says.
The binder might not cover that. uh-oh!
‘Druw kills him, OPS of 1.156, granted uber-SSS.
It’s like all of you have not heard of pinch hitting before.
What’s pinch hitting?
My uncle, who is a big Yankee fan, lives in Minnesota. My dad, also a big Yankee fan, goes out to visit him every year. They plan these trips around Yankee games against the Twins. This is the game they are at this year.
Meh…Raul
Not surprised at that outcome LOL.
The iPhone 5 looks like a shorter and fatter version of the Galaxy SIII.
and more square.
I love my SIII.
Me too, since I got it it’s become one of my prized possessions.
Deduno has an eye irritation and Gardenhire saw that from the dugout. No one is so naive to believe that he did not have this planned to bring in a lefty for our left handed lineup. They want to beat us at all costs. There is nothing in the rules that says you cannot do that.
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my life.
It’s not that far fetched.
It is not stupid. I was a physician for 42 years and the only way you can see an eye irritation or conjunctivitis is close up not from 80 feet away.
If that’s true then I say, fuck ‘em we’ll kick there ass anyway.
What do you mean? I am positive if Girardi saw CC or Hiroki BLINK HIS FUCKING EYES, he’d go out to check on him… completely logical!
At least I don’t know if you can fake an injury and get away with it.
Long rest for CC with no run support to show for it.
It’s okay though, he’d probably give it right back.
It’s been two innings.
Note to Micheal Kay: the rest of the world looks at more than Win/Loss record to determine if a pitcher is having a good year.
Nice play by Cano.
Well the Twins aren’t getting their dinky hits today.
Scratch that. There’s one
Banner inning so far.
Yes
Great hitting the other way and a ground ball single up the middle.
They’re palying horribly
playing
this game is a bum out so far.
I agree. Not saying we’re losing this game by any stretch, but it’s been kind of a bum out so far.
“Hughes and catcher Russell Martin said they felt like Hughes hadn’t worn down and could have finished out the inning.” -Yankees.com
At least those two agreed with me.
Like Hughes would actually come out and say he was gassed after 99 pitches? I’m sure that would’ve gone over well.
What…they actually use Dickerson…guess Joe couldn’t pinch hit the Binder for him
oh look, a lefty got hot off of a lefty. Its a miracle! Twice!
a hit
Ichiro is in such a great groove.
C-Dick squirts one up the middle!
Guess you’ve been working on that one for about 3 weeks
I finally got to get that one off. It took a while, different positions and same-handiness. But it finally shot, up the middle.
lets go rally!!! or something
The deadly bases loaded with less than 2 outs
I’ll take a sac fly…
Or that.
YAY CANO!!!!
Here’s Robbie’s chance to break out of the slump. Put this away early and let CC take us home.
he did go 3-3 w/ a walk yesterday.
ROBBIE!! 2-RUN DOUBLE!!
Robbie!!!!
Revere victimized by the fact that it was right at him.
Boom go the dynimite !!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyAGZ41btx8
This will never fail to be funny. Never.
Man, CC just never gets picked up by his team.
So all of you who said the lefty coming in was going to neutralize the lefty lineup, congratulations.
How about those who though pinch hitting would be appropriate this early in the game?
GREG
It was an option. not the definite.
if the orioles lose it doesn’t matter
And congratulations to all of you who said they’d all be PH for…
When did I say specifically that they should all be pinch hit for?
In those exact words?
When did I say the lefty was going to neutralize the lefty lineup? In those exact words?
You’re such a joke.
Look who fell into the party, YO!
/houseparty’d
YAY SWISH!!! Garbage Time is the best…
Keep the line moving boys!
YES! Robbie! Get the other 2 runs in and let CC take us home.
My kingdom for a rout.
Yay Robbie!
Wow, Revere has a better arm than I realized.
(small amount of garbage time)
I love when Robbie shows up.
RISPSuccess!
So much for the lefty shutting down this lineup.
The Grandyman!!!!
And yay Swish!
HAHA Boy, are you behind…
MLB at bat radio feed has a lag, unfortunately.
GRANDY: Bases clearing triple!!!
As the Hawk would say – don’t stop now boys.
The Hawk…leading candidate for worst announcing style in the history of baseball.
With the Yankees ending up in Boston maybe Swisher will end up with 100 rbi…
Thank god for the Twins pitching!!! Lets win this shit!
5 to 1 baby 1 and 5 no one here gets out alive.
YAY GRANDY!!! nice rally CC better not let this lead go…
now… sweep the leg NOW Johnny!
lets hang a 7 spot right here
This got fun quickly.
But this lefty was supposed to shut the lefty lineup down?!
Gardenhire deliberately put the lefty in!
The Real Greg says:
September 26, 2012 at 1:40 pm
Ever heard of pinch hitting before?
That was just one option.
this is awesome
No pinch hitting for Chavez and Ibanez?
Why? All the lefties are hitting Duesning
Ibanez actually has good numbers against Duensing.
From when he wasn’t a decrepit old fuck
If only he was hitting well right now…alas.
His only hit off Duensing came this year.
Minnesota pitching is just what this lineup needed. This should be all CC needs to take us home and give the pen a rest.
Our offense just is just getting nailed by this lefty pitcher, huh?
Great inning so far, let’s not let up though.
Is Martin catching for the twins??
Half kidding.
Seriously though what defunct, moronic organization drafts and actively promotes their pitchers in the minors to pitch to contact and could careless about power arms. Why the Twins chose to go that route is beyond me.
Scott Baker was pretty good though.
They’re cheaper than power pitchers.
Especially in a gigantic ball park like that?! I personally would take 5 Phil Hughes’ in that ball park as opposed to a guy who gets a lot of ground balls and actively tries to get them.
This is fun!
Yay, RISPLOVE!! Now CC, don’t give this one up!
Gardenhire may have to re-think his strategy
Man I wish I was watching this inning…on the plus side, I really like Nelson in the booth.
I’m listening as well at work. He’s so much better than Suzyn. He doesn’t make stupid comments and can actually talk about pitching.
anything is better than Suzyn crowing.
If the Yankees do not win this game, then I don’t know what I am going to do, but it’s not going to be pretty.
I like Jose Vazquez’s conspiracy theory above that Gardenhire faked the injury and brought in Duensing to screw the Yankees, in light of the 6 runs he’s brought us.
I know. The dumbest statement ever said on here, and it blew up in his face.
Dumb comments come with the territory. We had someone say “Girardi has recreated 2004″ after Game Five of the 2009 World Series.
Okay, no. That wins. Nobody is allowed to say any comment is the dumbest ever until they take that comment into consideration.
Fair enough.
From now on, only “second dumbest ever” will ever be an appropriate line, and only in rare, truly moronic circumstances.
I’m glad it backfired on him. Not even superman can see an eye irritation from the dugout. And Mike omitted my comment.
I thought this lineup couldn’t hit lefties!
Odd that Buck has decided the ideal time to go to the bullpen is with two outs and Chris Stewart up.
Back to a right hander for the Twins. That didn’t last long.
game has gotten so disinteresting to John & Jeff that they are discussing the nuances of handling the scorebook when you bat around
…what do you do if that happens?!
You Drink
Fair enough.
Paraphrasing Sterling; “Good thing they didn’t hit any homers, ’cause if they did, this inning wouldn’t have been that good…”
God bless this clown.
Amazing how the Yankees try to put the best performers on the field and the most god awful ones in the booth
Second stupidest comment ever? I think so.
Oh like Michael Kay or John Sterling is what you’d consider good announcers…or perhaps you like hearing why he doesn’t like mayo
No, I’m talking about Sterling’s comment.
(Also, I don’t get the Kay hate at all. Seems fine to me.)
I’ve seen them go whole batters not talk about the at-bat at all, talking about the steaks they’ve had, why he’s never watched Star Wars…which condiment he does or doesn’t like…and all of a sudden it’s two outs. His absolutely nearly fake home run calls on balls that are obviously never going to make it out…and See Ya, it’s a half-assed effort…on balls that do…He’s just a bad announcer.
Gardenhire:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FONN-0uoTHI
Scott Baker on a 1 year flyer anyone? Or will he go to a team where he will have a guaranteed rotation spot?
If I were in his position I’d go to a team guaranteeing me a rotation spot, usually there is more money involved.
Anyone else here listen to Behemoth?
typical yankees…RISPfail on a huge opportunity with two outs because they can’t hit breaking pitches.
Wait, didn’t they just have several RISP hits?
But they should never, ever fail. No? lol
CC get into a groove.
6-1, eh? Nice.
It will be a minor miracle if I get to watch or listen to a second of this. It’s a minor miracle that my schedule has even cleared up enough today for me to write this.
Even though he’s given up a run, CC just looks more comfortable on the mound. Looks like a totally different pitcher, even early in the A’s game
“Even though he’s given up a run….”
Hilarious that you think you have to qualify that. Pitchers give up runs. Good pitchers give up runs. Great pitchers give up runs.
Well I thought people would get persnickety.
Don’t worry about people getting persnickety (Can I borrow that word?) Whether you’re right or wrong, stick to your guns.
My name is Robinson Tilapia and I approve this message, even though I really should get back to work.
Works overrated. Just look at me go!
*avoid eye contact with customers and turns up the volume on MLB At Bat*
I also, from briefly scrolling above, bet Bobby “The Brain” Heenan has been through a screenname or twelve.
Cano’s putting on a clinic today.
Robbie’s having a great game in the field.
There’s another dinky hit robbed by Cano
God Cano has a GUN.
I must be missing a hell of a game if players are pulling out weaponry.
Made me laugh
He pulled it out and Alex from the bench was like http://24.media.tumblr.com/tum.....o2_500.jpg
Cano having a great day in the field.
Wow, Cano and Swisher are putting on a clinic today.
Just turned on MLB.TV in the office and see the 6-1 score! Can I get a quick recap of the Yanks scoring?
Dickerson single
Ichiro single
Jeter walk
Cano double scores 2
Swisher single scores 1
Granderson triple scores 2
wild pitch scores Granderson
Thanks! Great to hear that Cano and Grandy both RISPHIT!
Duensing loaded the bases, Robbie singled doubled in two, Swish Singled in one, Robbie to third, Grandy hit a two run triple and then scored on a passed ball with Chavez at the plate.
According to Sterling, Cano has looked great in the field today. Confirm or deny, TV viewers?
Confirmed, he is getting to everything and throwing great.
Sterling is correct.
(I know that may be hard to believe)
Heh. That’s why I had to ask.
Good shut down inning by CC.
I know for damn certain Derek Jeter is one of those guys.
Ichiro?
I think it’s Jeter and Cano.
Oh no, nevermind. Half right. I looked it up.
YES is fricken’ cheap.
Cano too, I thought.
It’s always amazing how Greg turns every commenter against him and every thread about himself. I’ll certainly admit that seeing what others have to say and how they react throughout the course of a game is entertaining, but Greg . . . Greg adds absolutely nothing. He drains this pool of innocent debauchery like a turd in a toilet.
Well the turd doesn’t drain itself. Someone has to pull the lever.
What that has to do with Greg, I have no clue.
we, the troll feeders, are the lever pullers.
Nicely done.
He stinks up the joint. He depletes every thread of its fun and amiable pace. You see, this is a toilet, a clean toilet, free of all human excrement. Greg is a piece of shit. Not that hard to follow. When Greg joins the party (the toilet) the vibe suffers. Greg is the turd that forces the flush. This thread can handle all the piss and vinegar that any CC beat-down has to offer, but Greg’s shit-like characteristics rid it of anything worthwhile. Greg is a turd. He is the turd that sends this thread to the sewer. See, Tilapia? While Greg is the world’s biggest Bono-esque turd, you’re a close runner-up. Your snark is nearly a world-ruiner. I think you need to get a job, ol’ man.
Yeah, I’d love to see your credentials, dipshit.
It’s the internet, so here are my credentials: I am the world’s youngest CEO of a Fortune 500 company. My GF is a Victoria’s Secret model. I own the largest yacht ever built and I am a personal friend to anyone who ever mattered. I’m the most interesting man in the universe, bro. Those are my credentials. Cower, fool.
Wow dude…you’re a jerk.
Yep.
Yeah, not really an issue. I’m a jerk. ‘Tis all right with me.
Well as long as you’re at peace with it.
Well, considering the poor, paltry, and pathetic options that you, the “AKA” loser, and Tilapia bring to table, I’d say jerk is by far the best selection.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Ok, Mr. “I pretend I have an important job in DC that I miraculously get days off from and have absurd, non-existent hours”. I’ve worked in DC. Your kind doesn’t cut it, hippie. What’s that? I think I hear your bong calling.
lolz okay.
Jeff Nelson agrees with me that Jeter is MVP if Detroit and LA Angels miss the playoffs. Runner up would be Ichiro.
I thought the runner up would be Stewart.
I still have DeWayne Wise’s bunt as the AL MVP
Adrian Beltre
If I said King Felix shouldn’t win the Cy Young cause he doesn’t have enough wins and Micheal Kay agreed with me would that make me right?
I laughed out loud.
I’ve been trying to find that comment Mike alluded to above about Girardi recreating 2004 after Game 5 of the 2009 WS. Can anyone help? This is the page that has the threads from that time, but I can’t find anything in the last spillover thread, the post game thread, or the recap thread: http://riveraveblues.com/page/861/.
I wanna say it came in the game recap comments.
Wasn’t the commenter name something like “virginia yankee” or something?
http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....ent-672390
Maybe?
Nope, it was a different comment. I pasted it below.
Ace like shut down inning !!
CC has settled in. I am a fan. Bad news for Derek Lowe
So close to the Immaculate Inning.
Ironic that both of the righties for the Twins have shut the Yankees down but the lefty failed.
CC’s on fire!
I like the game thus far. Let’s hope Cartson Charles Sabathia (Kay’d) can keep it going. I’d love for them to just be able to bring in somebody for an inning or so at the end if it all. It would be good to have the bullpen rested going into the Toronto series since Nova, Hughes, and Pettitte will be pitching.

Greg, awesome use of the work persnickety. It doesn’t get used enough.
word* god damnit.
It’s one of those words that enables awe and wonder. Wonder what some others are?
I asked this above accidentally as a reply, but anyone else here listen to Behemoth?
Occasionally, I’m not huge into black metal, or most modern metal in general…but I’ll go through my phases of enjoying it.
That’s what’s up. I only like about half a dozen of their songs but it’s good music to get pumped up for a Calculus exam in two hours.
I wouldn’t even call it black metal…more like death metal with some black elements.
Also great music to go running to. When I try to get in shape I’ll listen to Slayer’s Reign in Blood to run and it’s impossible to not get pumped up.
INFAMOUS! BUTCHER!
Settle down C.C.
Stop fucking around CC.
This is the only way the Twins are going to get back into this game. Walks and singles. Not much power in this lineup. No Plouffe, Willingham or Morneau
Nice job, jackass.
Not sure he could have gotten 2 anyways, though.
I couldn’t figure out what happened with Sterling and Nelson talking to Feinsand. Care to fill me in?
Ground ball to Chavez w/ one out, thinking there was two he calmly walked the ball to third to get the force and didn’t look to go to second or first and started towards the dug out.
Ah, jackass definitely fits then. Thanks.
Damnit Chavez. That’s just a dumb mistake.
Can’t assume the double play Kay.
But that was horrible
I thought Chavez was conceding the DP because Florimon is a fast runner, and just decided to get the lead runner.
Oops.
Chavez needs to get his head out of his ass.
Ooof.
Chris Stewart: Defensive Catcher.
Thanks to Kramerica for the reminder (nice memory!) about the Girardi/2004 comment, I found it:
http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....ent-673854
Hahaha that’s just gold. And who the hell is “pettit”?
Step-brother of “Sabbath”
I love this response:

girardi has recreated 2004
how were you able to type this as you jumped from the edge?
I like how lastseason is one word. We should do that with all seasons. Like anything and something. thisseason, nextseason, lastseason maybe even moreseasoning an lessseasoning.
awesome stuff. the spelling and lack of punctuation. hope VA Yank is enjoying the LoHud Blog alongside the rest of the bridge-jumpers…
Who are those Ben and Joe guys? hehe
Just some trolls.
One rides the subway way too much, and one rides Axisa’s coattails.
I love Joe’s response.
If the Yankees win tonight, you’re never commenting here again.
oh Zombie Chavez… You so craycray.
Alright that was there last shot. We tack on a few more and cruise.
Defensive catcher my ass
Look at his stats in San Francisco. Not defending the trade, but the facts are the facts.
The fact is that he has been very disappointing defensively this year, all while providing his expected level of offensive futility.
Actually this has been his best offensive year in his career.
64 wRC+ this year. 62 wRC+ last year.
Split hairs much?
Greg, let’s call it what it is, Stewart has had a pitiful year by any stretch of the imagination.
+10000
Thank you Nick Swisher (defensive firstbaseman, as we were today informed)… atta way to save Chavy’s ass
Bunt Stewart?
Why in the world would you bother bunting a guy over with a 5 run lead.
Because you want to make it a 6 run lead
Mske that a 7 run lead
With a 5 run lead there are other ways to make that happen..as we saw…but I guess dugout binder boy can only manage one way.
It’s about the only positive thing Chris Stewart can do at the plate
C-Dick!!!!
C-DICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C-Dick!
YEAH!!! Let’s fucking kill these motherfuckers!!!
Big swinging Dickerson.
Dickerson tacking on.
Now aren’t we all glad that Ibanez got moved over to third?
Well, that should end any remaining doubt about today.
Dickerson christens that wall in right! What a call, Sterling!
that’s the first I’ve heard it, ha!
and on Yom Kippur no less
Chris Dickerson… “christens the right field facing”.
seriously John Sterling. just stop it
Sterling is the excellence of execution!
Whoa…a bomb by Dickerson…nice…
but he’s gotten his opportunities to play? Yea, if you count an at-bat here or there and a 9th inning defensive replacement.
Oh man, that thread makes me sad. Come back, TSJC.
Even a Bo sighting. Boy, those were the golden days…
I’m reading it too. So many lost posters.
C-Dick SHOOTS one off the facing! MONEY SHOT BY C-DICK!
…is that allowed?
I think it must be because it’s hard to judge intent.
shit luck DP there
DP luck, shit here
Jeter will probably get pulled if the score stays the same. Hit streak over (not that it matters).
And Aardsma may actually get a chance.
Could be (on Aardsma) CC finished this inning with 87 pitches, so theoretically he could go 8 and have Aardsma pitch the 9th.
I agree.
Absolutely. Give him a nothing inning, and see what happens and how he looks.
I’d be curious to see Aardsma get some innings in
Sabathia has destroyed Mauer
CC is dealing
Wait, no one was gonna make a “Captain DP” comment? Shameful showing by the trolls.
El Captiàn, the Captain of the error free, dropped DP. With the rash.
Holy shit, I a dalelama sighting in one of the 09′ threads.
Some trolls are just here to stay, I guess.
There was actually a stretch, in 09′ where I was posting under this name. I think the primary difference between me now and me then is that I cursed less.
Sadly, there are very few sighting of me (if any) before last season…not saying it was because I used have a social life and I no longer do…but that’s totally it
I’m still a relative RAB newbie really. I started posting in the offseason sometime, maybe shortly after the playoffs. Can’t remember now. I wish I could filter that, I’m curious wheen/what my first comment was.
I remember my first game post…I think it was against the White Sox, and I know that AJ was on the mound because he got through the first few innings w/o an issue and people were all saying “oh this is the inning he collapses” after about the 3rd or 4th I said something to the affect of “chill out guys, you can at least act like we’re winning the game…AJ’s pitched pretty well.” Then jesse got on my ass because it was AJ’s M.O to go a few scoreless and implode. We got into a fight about it.
I commented way back in 2009, just not in game threads. I too used to have a social life, now I have three kids.
You’ve had three kids since ’09?
I assume a few of us had some semblance of a social life before which kept us out of things like Friday night game threads.
Damn the Yankees bullpen looks like a boys gang from the city the way they are sitting there.
If the Yankees don’t let this get much closer, this will be the first time in 17 (!) days that the Yankees will have a final score that’s closer than 3 runs in either direction (13-3 victory over the O’s). Before that, the previous Yankees victory of more than 3 runs was 37 days earlier, the 8-2 victory over Texas.

Here I am from 09′! Proof!
http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....our-19250/
Several times in this very short thread.
Yes, my original moniker was indeed “RAB Poster”. Not very creative, I know.
I was also known for having a love/hate relationship with the Honorable Congressman Mondesi. Kind of like what I have with Greg, except with him it’s more a “Grudgingly Agree With/Dude, that is so Fucking Stupid” relationship.
In the words of Howard Cosell to Dandy Don:
“I didn’t know you cared”
Was that after Dandy Don brought him his 4th or fifth drink?
Me too!! Here I am, I still hated umps back then too…
http://riveraveblues.com/2011/.....nt-1874757
Except that’s not the right link or handle. I still suck at life sometimes.
loving this game
Oh and maybe this lead is aardsma proof? the guy needs innings
That hit probably cost him the 8th inning.
CC: settle the FUCK down.
C’mon CC bring it home.
Wow…talk about shit luck.
Heh. Apparently back in 09′ I was in favor of a dome over the stadium.
Only way they would’ve done it was a retractable roof with George’s face painted on the inside so he could be looking down on his team from Heaven…
I would’ve been completely okay with that.
Complete with an interchangeable shot of his ass the opposing team can see when flying back home.
See do you think the Twins can do that 6 times in a row?
Chavez has atoned
Nice catch Chavez…was getting worried he was going to bring in Logan
CC was going to finish that inning period.
OK Chavez, that makes up for the jackass play.
So, CC’s line is going to be in good-not-great territory, but it was really only dinky bounces that caused him any damage at all. This is, as far as I’m concerned, two CC Of Old performances in a row, just when I’d begun to wonder if we were going to see that guy this year.
7-8IP 2ER is great as long as you realize the second run was a product of absolute shit luck.
Yeah, that’s two great outings in a row. Big man gearing up for the big games.
I have no idea what Girardi is doing with Robertson up
Although it looks he’s not even going to get in. Girardi went out to ask CC if he can go one more out
Well yeah. Would have been criminal otherwise.
At 119 pitches and a 6 run lead it seems a bit unnecessary. Would like to see what Aardsma has.
DRob warming. Shows how little faith Girardi has in the rest of the bullpen.
Ouch really? I was hoping for Aardsma with a 6 run lead.
I think DRob was warming in case Sabathia and Rapada imploded. The major emergency situation
It’s just silly. You never know who may not be available on a given day but he has Eppley, Rapada, Garcia or even Joba who should be in before Robertson in a 6 run game.
Then again Chris Stewart was bunting up 5 runs (I hope it was on his own, but somehow I doubt it)
Again DRob was up in case of a major implosion. He was the last resort.
Last resort up 6? The guy after Doumit was a lefty.
Robertson was up long before he needed to be in your “disaster scenario” he would be needed for the killer stretch of Carson, Carroll, Casilla where they might be batting in a 4 or 5 run game.
You have mound visits and other delay tactics… he doesn’t need to be up with noone on base and either no out or 1 out when he won’t be needes 3-4 batters down the line.
Great game by CC.
So if they hold onto this lead, who do we see wearing #6 in the sidebar? Joe Torre? Perhaps Mickey Mantle again wearing the number he wore when he first came up to the bigs?
Torre. I doubt Mike goes with the same player twice in a row.
Aardsma is up
As well as Eppley so I was correct about Robertson.
Awesome. Would love to see him log some garbage time innings and see what he’s got.
Jeter batting second is a failure. Lead off.
Robbie is coming alive
In a surprise move, Gardner tests his elbow by pitching the 9th.
Testing it catching the throw back from the catcher, or is he pitching right handed?
Humor fail.
Keep trying. It’ll get easier.
You do know it is his non-throwing elbow that was injured?
Yes.
The stretch run is no time for babying.
Don’t know why he couldn’t use Aardsma…guess the Book of the Damned told him match-ups didn’t favor the magic…
Gardy in left but no Aardsma, Epply instead.
Girardi is crazy
Girardi’s a douche.
I don’t think we are going to see Aardsma or Warren until the Yankees clinhc some form of playoff spot or there’s an emergency.
Wouldn’t have minded Aardsma here, but whatever. I care about winning more about Aardsma’s happiness on day two.
Exactly. Having a hard time getting worked up Eppley over Aardsma. If he makes it into a game this year, fine. If not, fine.
Robertson up again… looks like Greg was right!
But he’s just standing there, doing nothing.
DRob warming again….smfh.
Not really, he was just standing there.
Again, why doesn’t somebody ask him about it.
Why isn’t Swisher pitching? Garbage time is where he thrives?
Period, not question mark. Ruined my joke.
I always enjoy seeing a kid get his first MLB hit. Now let’s hope he doesn’t score his first MLB run!
don’t know why you even bother to get him warmed up if you don’t bother to bring him in with a six run lead. I think he passed up a big opportunity to get him his first game action in a long time. Who knows what goes on in Girardi’s mind.
At least they won.
Good game, we needed that.
Nice win. Glad to catch at least one inning of the game.
I actually got to listen to two innings! Hooray for forgetting my staff member I was looking for this afternoon was actually out for Yom Kippur.
And Eppley hadn’t pitched since Sunday and even then he threw 2 pitches so he needed some work.
They’ll be plenty of opportunities to get him some work. With a six run lead and you have a player who hasn’t pitched in over a year you take the opportunity to get him in there and see what he has, or to get over being nervous.
GREAT WIN!!!!!!!!!
2 game lead now. fuck yeah
Hello, Mr. Torre! Hopefully tonight, you’ll be stepping aside for Mr. DiMaggio!
From your mouth to god’s ears.
Because I had a power outage I don’t know how much flak I have gotten for suggesting some machinations by the Twins in order to beat us. The logic is this: If Deduno had an irritated eye at the beginning of the game, then Gardenhire was negligent in putting him in as the pitcher. If he did not have it, how could he see it from 80 or more feet from the dugout? How come did no one look at his eye when they went to see him. As far as I can tell he was saying that he was o.k.
Why is there a problem with the twins trying to win? Don’t you want the blue jays to do everything they can to beat the orioles?
This is a sport… The objective is to go out and win regardless of being out of playoff contention or not.
If Gardenhire wanted to take out his pitcher, he didn’t need to fake an injury. He could have just pulled him. So why are you so suspicious of the injury thing?
And if it were a sound strategy for manager to pull his starter in the 2nd inning for the sake of match ups, you would see this actually happening, which you don’t.
