Update: Jeter day-to-day with bone bruise in left ankle

11:08pm: Jeter aggravated the bone bruise in his left ankle and is day-to-day. Apparently I had the wrong foot before, my apologies. This is the same injury he’s been nursing for the last week or so, not a new one. Joe Girardi said he expects Jeter to play tomorrow, but I bet he just DHs if anything. Still … exhale.

10:19pm: From the potentially very bad news department: Derek Jeter left tonight’s game with apparent right ankle injury after running out a ground ball in the seventh. The Cap’n has been nursing some kind of injury to the joint for about a week now, but hitting the bag hard sent him limping down the right field down. Like I said, this has the potential to be very bad. Stay tuned for updates.

Hate to say it, but without Jeet, I fear for the rest of the season and I’m one positive son of a bitch.

To be positive, it looked bothersome but after a few limps he was walking fine.

On the other hand, if he’s out we’re screwed. Plain and simple. Not something we can absorb.

If Jeter is out, even I’ll admit that the season is probably over.

On the bright side, it looked as if he started walking okay after a couple of minutes. Maybe we can rest him a day and DH him a day and breathe a sigh of relief.

    • G

I won’t be that optimistic. I’ll predict minimum of 3 games out, then DH duties.

It’s my fault. I was counting how many hits he’d need to get to No. 9 on the all-time hits list this season. Figuring he’d get the hit to tie Mays for No. 10 tomorrow. (one to tie Mays, 33 to tie Eddie Collins.)

Jeet has been remarkably great this year, deserving of MVP votes. It would be a shame to lose him when we need him the most.

    Enter Nunez. God help us.

Well my “be pessimistic and good news will seem awesome” method works

def could’ve been worse. i kinda don’t want them to push him too much, rest that ankle and whatnot, but they just can’t afford to right now.

    Any updates?

    • Nathan

Nevermind. Weird Firefox doesn’t update, it goes to a cached version of the page. Disregard!

      • DC

Chrome and Safari do that as well.

        • jim p

Most browsers have a preference “reload from cache” which you can turn on and off. Often a time-saver to have that handy. Refreshing the page will also work to stay current.

Jeter has been great this season and it would suck to lose him. But, hey, they lost Mo and…

  • Rich in NJ

Jeter has been one of the few compelling stories on the team this season.
