Yankees designate Ramiro Pena for assignment, call up six

Via Peter Botte, the Yankees have designated Ramiro Pena for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Chris Dickerson. Unlike the first time he was designated, he will now need to be traded, released, or passed through waivers within ten days. Click here for an explanation of that weirdness.

Along with Dickerson, the Yankees have also officially recalled Frankie Cervelli, Eduardo Nunez, Cory Wade, Adam Warren, and Justin Thomas as rosters expand today.

Nunez at DH today. That just makes me so sad for some reason.

    • Laz

He was actually hitting pretty good last year when Jeter was hurt. Either way, I think he is better than having Andruw or anyone else hitting vs this lefty.

      • Ted Nelson

He was hitting well this season too.

      • Deep Thoughts

The bat was never Nunie’s problem.

        • Laz

Then isn’t a problem with him DHing. I think some of his problems stem from him shifting positions every day.

While I understand Pena, I still think moving Betances to the 60D-DL would have been the easiest thing.

I would’ve just cut Lowe at this point. He’s not even fit for mop up duty any longer.

Hopefully the kids can give us a spark because the team is lifeless right now. No HRs in almost 3 games until Grandy hit that one in the 9th. I would play Frankie at C, Nunez at 3rd or DH.

    • no playoffs

      cervelli is not a kid

      • M-Three

Cervelli shouldn’t have been called-up, it should’ve been Romine. Romine has the potential to be our future catcher and be a quality MLB player. Hopefully this last month makes the Yanks realize that Cervelli is a scrub and should be non-tendered this offseason.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Romine is going to play everyday in Triple-A rather than sit on the bench in the big leagues.

        • Travis L.

How is Cervelli a scrub? Who are you comparing him to… Mauer? Putting Cervelli and Martin side by side puts Martin to shame. Cervelli is what…26? He still has years to go. Martin is almost 30, and by all appearances, almost done.

        • JobaWockeeZ

Romine at best is 2011 Martin with much lesser defense.

  • Tim

No real impact players at all in that group except maybe Nunez on the basepaths. When will the Yankees have some impact playes to bring up from AAA? Next year with Tyler Austin? Or 2014 with Sanchez and Williams?

    • viridiana

Both Adams and Mustelier could help this lineup right now with solid contact hitting.

      • RkyMtnYank

I agree! Plus, I think Montgomery would have been a nice addition to the bp.

        • Laz

Stop it already. He only has 20 innings so far at AA, and they don’t have enough 40 man roster spots.

      • Kosmo

        I agree too !

      • Ted Nelson

Who are you replacing with them?

  • herby

At this point Lowe has proven that he’s still a Red Sox at heart…a mole destined to derail the Yankee season in any way he can…Of course they’re trying to do a pretty good job of it themselves. I still don’t understand why it took this long for the Yankees to bring up Dickerson…C’mon now…Ichiro, Steve Pearce. Ichiro fades into nothing when runners are on, and who the fuck was Steve Pearce to begin with. Dickerson must’ve done something to seriously piss someone off in management to be ignored this way.

    • Laz

Yea, Lowe would really play himself out of more money by blowing it for the yankees so the Sox can sneak into the postseason.

  • Defensive Indifference

    Fist pump.

(*Helmet flies off in the process. Then makes an error bending over to pick it up.*)

    Loew looks like he’s done.

  • smurfy

Farewell, Ramiro. Thanks for all the great glovework. You swung a good bat, sorry you never could figure it out to make much contact.

May you get another try with another team. Hope you’ve been saving your money.

No Casey McGehee? Is he legitimately going to stay in Charleston or did I miss something?

    • Kiko Jones

He’s joining the team in Toronto, I believe. Also, welcome back, Frankie C.

      • Stephen

        Oh OK thank you

    • Stephen

Does the 10 day rule for recalling apply?
