ALCS Game One Spillover Thread

Hey, fellas, the opposing starter isn’t supposed to settle down after taking a line drive to the wrist on his pitching arm.

Categories : Game Threads, Playoffs

  1. Matt says:

He would probably already be out of this game if not for the umpire blowing that call at first.

  2. Eddard says:

4 hits and 3 walks in just four innings for Fister and they have 0 runs. And I don’t want to hear this garbage about crooked umps or lucky defense. Crush bad pitching, hustle to first and that doesn’t happen. Fister is throwing 90 mph right down the middle on 2-0 and 3-1 and they’re doing nothing.

    • Matt says:

Cano was safe. He busted it down the line. What more can you do?

They never had the chance to do damage because they had two 2-run singles taken away from them and Fister was bailed out of the inning on the missed call at first.

You can’t expect a good pitcher to give up baserunner after baserunner all night. They did what they had to do, and ran into some terrible luck, again.

  3. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    Spillover threads are fun.

Yea, Ernie, that second play Peralta made was “a fielding gem.” Fucking tool.

  4. handtius says:

    i love morgan freedman.

  5. Chilango says:

Fister sucks tonight but not as bad as our offense. He’s way off the plate and then just lays it in there and they still can’t do anything with it. If it weren’t for the Ibañez miracle, we probaly wouldn’t even be here. Ball-less Joe needs to bench ARod, Swisher and Granderson before it’s too late.

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy) says:

Pretty sure I would have even less confidence in the three players that would replace those guys.

      • Chilango says:

What? Look up Swisher’s career post season numbers, AROID just flat out sucks now, and Granderson is 3 for what 30 so far. Anyone else Joe puts in would be better. Or at least deserves a shot.

        • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy) says:

And those players would be…? I stand by my statement. Those three players have much more talent than anyone who would replace them.

        • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

You could make an argument for Chavez over ARod I guess, but the other options are Nix against a RHP, or Gardner who has had like 4 ABs since April.

    • Lol.. And put who in?

    • handtius says:

who you playing in all them spots? glad you’re not managing this team. you probably wanted to keep Cody Ransom at third and bench Arod when he started that season on the DL.

    • DC says:

      Get a grip.

  6. Knoxvillain says:

    Here come the runs.

  7. BigBlueAL says:

On a side note thanks to Pat D I will be watching some He-Man cartoons after the game tonight. And yes I actually own the entire He-Man DVD collection lol

    • Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

So do I, and I don’t think I’ve ever actually put any of them on.

Sadly, that’s the way my DVD buying history has gone. I buy stuff and never watch them.

      • BigBlueAL says:

Im the same way yet when a movie I own on DVD is on TV I always watch it lol.

        • Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

My mother does that. I do with only a select few, like Inception or Pulp Fiction.

  8. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    Owned by Peralta? Yikes, Andy.

  9. Effthisnoise says:

    Peralta fielding gems? Really TBS?

  10. Yankees have, what, 16 runs in, what, 54 innings this postseason?

One baserunner since Fister got drilled on the wrist. You can’t make this stuff up.

  11. dkidd says:

no matter what happens in this game or this series, how awesome is it we get to watch andy in the post-season one more time (hopefully not the last)?

  12. Matt says:

This already feels like another one of those games that the Yankees have had stolen from them by umpiring, just like Game 2 in Baltimore. It’s sickening. Unless the Yankees score 4 or 5 runs and take control of this, it’s hard to shake that feeling.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Right now the score is Detroit:0 New York:0 Umpires:4

  13. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    “Willie Mayes?” “WILLIE MAYES???”

TBS should be banned from broadcasting baseball for all time after that.

  14. AJ says:

Hey TBS, who is Willie “Mayes”

  15. oldmanalex currently benchwarming says:

good thing our offensive shortcomings, are contagious to the away team.

  16. Tom Q says:

If that call was our make-up gift, it wasn’t enough.

  17. Effthisnoise says:

TBS harped on the Mclouth foul the entire game last night when even replay showed it was clearly foul, but te whole broadcast it was a “controversal” call. Yet they have not mentioned the replay proven blown call since

  18. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I missed the Willie Mays thing. What happened?

  19. RetroRob says:

Robbie knocked the suck out of Fister’s arm. Unintended consequence.

  20. Mick taylor says:

Why is choke king swisher playing. If girardi is this stupidto have the worst hitter in the history of playoff baseball history in the lineup believing he will turn it around he deserves to lose. Swisher will not get a meaningful hit this series because he cannot hit under pressure as in the 2009 playoffs and last year. C dick would have made sense

    • VT Yankee Fan (I named my son after Andy) says:

Haven’t we heard enough of this? Move on to something else.

      • Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

Just start quoting Rolling Stones songs that he played on. I’m convinced it will eventually make him go away.

      • Chilango says:

His post season numbers are .162/.281/.296 in 168 PA. We’ll have heard enough of this when Joe takes him out.

    • DC says:

I bet your music playlist is just the same song over and over.

  21. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

I would be okay with Ernie Johnson doing PBP if Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith did the color…TBS sucks.

    • Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

I still wouldn’t be OK with it. Studio hosts generally aren’t good at calling games, which is why they don’t call games.

      • Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

I’m not saying it would be good baseball announcing, but so long as it’s going to be bad baseball announcing I would much rather hear Charles say stupid shit and Kenny argue with him than listen to this Smoltz douchebag.

  22. BigBlueAL says:

This Yankee offense is reaching 2001 World Series status.

  23. wow says:

the Yankees are intent on making Fister go 8.

  24. Knoxvillain says:

The offense will lose this game. Mediocre Fister is shitting all over us right now.

  25. Hummingbird S. says:

now they are making outs without working the count… this has to be one of the worst offenses the Yankees have ever fielded.

    • Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

They scored 804 runs. Only in 1995, 2001 and 2008 did they score the same or fewer since this run began.

Keep in mind, of course, that offense was much higher across the board most of those years.

  26. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

“maybe a tiny bit safe” are you fucking serious?

  27. handtius says:

    they’re still calling it a close call….

  28. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

“Maybe a tiny bit safe,” Smoltz?

Fuck you, fuck you and fuck you.

  29. babnik says:

just got in…what did I miss (or not miss)?

  30. Matt says:

Smoltz is a joke. “Maybe safe.” He is doing anything in his power to pretend that never happened

  31. Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

Smoltz – “might have looked save” to “OK, maybe a tiny bit safe, tough call”
    What an ass.

  32. Nice Scheister says:

“Maybe a tiny bit safe.” -TBS, go fuck yourself!

    • Bo Knows says:

How can you be a “tiny bit safe?” unless the mlb is going to allow partial runs due to missed calls, you just can’t be

      • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy) says:

Haha, I know, right? “oh it was bang-bang, so you get half a run!!?”

No, Smoltz, you little shit. You are safe, or you are you. There is no “maybe” or “little bit”. When you’re dealing with replay, it is black and fucking white.

  33. Hummingbird S. says:

I wonder if Cano can get under .050.. excellent numbers

  34. Matt says:

The Yankees should be winning at least 1-0 right now. With the way Pettitte is pitching right now, that might have been enough. What a joke.

  35. TinoBambino24 says:

Now I know what Mariner fans go through!

  36. Eddard says:

Pathetic that they let Fister get in his rhythm. Now one mistake by Andy and it’s over. He’s pitching his heart out, too. They did the same thing to Phil in Game 4.

  37. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

In the 1st/2nd inning I thought it looked like the offense was actually going to break that habit of failing to get to a pitcher when he is shaky early on and then disappearing completely in innings 3-8. I have no idea why I thought that would happen. They have been piss useless ever since A-Rod’s rally-killing GIDP. They haven’t even done anything to work the pitch count and get to the pen since that GIDP, which sucked not just for stifling a potential rally but also for making it a short inning pitch-wise.

  38. Effthisnoise says:

Wow, this is actually happening. Another mediocre this time hobbled pitcher is making te yanks look silly. All the sudden peralta and fielder are defrensive juggernauts

    • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez) says:

That’s quite underrating Doug Fister. I’m frustrated too, but he’s better than a mediocre pitcher.

  39. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Fister channeling the great Joe Saunders.

  40. BigBlueAL says:

Actually this offense is even worse than what we saw in the 2001 World Series since at least that team had to face Schilling and Randy Johnson 5 out of 7 games. Dunno WTF is the excuse for this years offense’s horrible display so far.

    • Knoxvillain says:

They’ve been like this all season. It shouldn’t surprise anyone. They were never going to be an offense threat in the playoffs and everyone knew that.

      • BigBlueAL says:

They scored the 2nd most runs in baseball this season. If they were like this all season they wouldnt be playing right now.

      • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

2nd most runs in the AL and “They were never going to be an offense threat in the playoffs and everyone knew that?”

        • Knoxvillain says:

Everyone with a brain. They were the worst-good offensive team in baseball. They aren’t going to hit home runs. They’ve proven that. The offense is bad. That’s it. Believe what you want. After the Tigers win the series 4-1, you will see.

  41. cjc says:

they fucked this up big time now Fister is dealing

  42. RetroRob says:

Welcome to game six of the ALDS. Not recognizing this new lineup from the Orioles. That Buck is crafty.

  43. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    Are you fucking kidding me?

  44. Cy Pettitte says:

    unluckiest game ever.

  45. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Like 8 fans touched that.

  46. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    wtf was that?

  47. Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

    Stupid fans.

    • Bo Knows says:

If they had it would have been just a double, no one was able to touch it…first time in history, I’d actually want a fan to interfere.

  48. RetroRob says:

…and that was a time a Yankee fan did nothing.

  49. I had to use the facilities, and I come back and it’s already the 6th, AND the Tigers are in business?

    Fuck me.

  50. Effthisnoise says:

All the Smoltz hatred cant erase the owning of the braves in the 90′s

  51. Knoxvillain says:

And the Yankees have cost themselves the game. Nice job, lolffense.

  52. Anthony says:

    oh great.

  53. Hummingbird S. says:

groundball triple.. they will probably score and 1 run feels like 10 at this point

  54. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

    what the fuck was that

  55. RetroRob says:

  56. Bo Knows says:

This is really sad, and as I type this Jackson is on third

  57. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

  58. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Nice throw by Swish!!

  59. Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

    Walk Cabrera.

  60. Losers.. Gotta touch that.

  61. handtius says:

    stupid rich fans…fucking dumbasses.

  62. Matt says:

Yankees screwed out of a run, Detroit gets one of the luckiest breaks you will ever see on what should have been a single.

    This is a fucking joke.

  63. Athenian says:

Yanks hitting themselves into a loss

  64. Hummingbird S. says:

I’d go ahead and walk Prince as well..

  65. Cuso says:

Ugh. I know it’s “smart baseball” but I hate this IBB

  66. Chilango says:

    Even the fans choke lol

  67. TinoBambino24 says:

  68. “Could almost throw someone out from the fence in this field.”

Smoltz is such a fucking asshole.

  69. Cy Pettitte says:

Smoltz talking about the field dimensions, again.

  70. John says:

This offense is one of the worst ever. They are going to lose in 5 games.

  71. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

Once again, Smoltz lets you know he hates this stadium.

  72. Effthisnoise says:

After the amazing defense by Fielder last inning, here comes a homerun off fielders stomach

  73. oldmanalex says:

can someone email TBS and tell them that john smoltz is the most biased fuck in this world. and he is still bitter about the way his career ended.

  74. Joe F says:

No fly balls except pop ups.

  75. Athenian says:

Shit. This blows. Another game of missed chances.

  76. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

  77. With this shit-tastic offense, who knows if that might’ve just done in the Yankees tonight.

  78. Joe F says:

Well I forgot to add no hits in general. Fuck.

  79. dkidd says:

    come on, andy!

  80. Hummingbird S. says:

so predictable.. why not walk him?? they have no hitters after Prince.

  81. Matt says:

Fuck this game. The first base umpire may have single handedly won Detroit this game. I doubt Fister makes it out of that 2nd inning if not for that call.

  82. Eddard says:

And that’s why you score when you have 7 men on base in the first 4 innings. Andy made his mistake, Detroit took advantage and that might be it.

  83. wow says:

that run shouldn’t matter. screw you umpires. screw you bud selig. that could be the difference.

  84. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

I see Fielder’s just like Cano and pimps every time he makes contact.

  85. RetroRob says:

Is there like an reverse-Bartman reaction for the fans who gently decided not to do what every set of fans has been doing since the dawn of MLB?

  86. Joe F says:

Got to be fucking kidding me.

  87. yo says:

  88. Swisher you dumb fucking asshole.

  89. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Ugh…what the fuck Swish?!?!

  90. Matt says:

  91. BigBlueAL says:

Swisher is fucking useless right now.

  92. Hummingbird S. says:

  93. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    Oh my fucking hell.

  94. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Girardi sure loves him some intentional walks.

  95. Eddard says:

That’s the ball game, folks. This offense had its chance against a pitcher that was off and they blew it. Now it’s all up to Kuroda on 3 days rest.

  96. Effthisnoise says:

Swisher no bat and now lays up on s fly ball

    • Starks says:

This is on joe girardi. No way swisher should be playing. If ichiro is at rf and gardner at lf ichiro has nonproblem making that catch.

  97. True blue says:

    Swisher is awful

  98. Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez) says:

Not only does this site need registration, but it needs an IQ test.

  99. Matt says:

This is the biggest joke of a game I have ever seen in my life. How many fucking breaks can go against this Yankees team? They should be up 5-0 right now.

  100. wow says:

    this is infuriating.

  101. John says:

If you can’t score on Doug Fister you cannot and will not score on Verlander. This team is so frustrating to watch.

  102. dkidd says:

    cabrera just got lucky there

  103. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

  104. oldmanalex says:

2 runs are insurmountable with this offence.

  105. Athenian says:

Well that is game one loss. Fuck. Nice defense, nice offense. Pettitte you deserve better than a loss.

  106. Joe F says:

    Lucky triple, Int. walk, bloop…

    TBS hates the Yankees.

  107. Hummingbird S. says:

that’s what a bad team does.. it finds ways to lose games.

  108. Karl Krawfid says:

Yankees might have choked away a 1-0 series lead.

  109. Chilango says:

    Swisher’s tremendous D. hahaha

  110. Bo Knows says:

I hope they can do something but they haven’t done much to inspire confidence over the past week (offensively).

  111. Big "Nostradanus" Member says:

  112. oldmanalex says:

swisher D is a tad bit questionable. should of put more effort on that last play, regardless of how fast/slow cabrera is running.

  113. Anthony says:

Its not enough Pettite gets screwed over by the offense and bad luck, now the defense too…

  114. stuart a says:

offense on fire par the course.

let’s sign cano to a 8 year extension, he is too valuable to let go. so clutch, great with the bases loaded about 208 on the season.

this offense is even worse they I expected. they are even more incompetent then I could have imagined…

swisher is a total waste. the first big hit he gets will be his first in the postseason…

the announcers suck. btw cano was safe on that play. they spent a lot of time on that play, showing all of 1 repaly..if it happened to the tigers there might be afederal investigation…

  115. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Derek Lowe is not the answer here.

  116. CG says:

    man… FUCK garbage cans.

  117. Cuso says:

Swisher could have caught that ball.

/I only dive to catch when I don’t have to div’d

  118. wow says:

“fine defensive play by Peralta” #narrative.

  119. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Pettitte, it’s hard to defend you when you can’t get Peralta out.

    • stuart a says:

yep 2 runs in 6 innings pettitte sucks…

the offense is fucking horrible, the pitching has been great fool…

  120. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    the. shittiest. rally. ever.

  121. True blue says:

    Awful job by Andy.. Terrible

  122. Eddard says:

You can get away with it when you’re facing a young club like the Os who will press. But Detroit has been there done that and you can’t get away with leaving 7 men on base in just 4 innings. Crooked umps and lucky defense aside, you have to put runs on the board. This game is over now that they’ve let Fister get in his rhythm.

  123. Hummingbird S. says:

    Pettitte joining the choke party.

    • Pasqua says:

On what planet is 2 runs in 6 innings a “choke job”? As has been the case all week, this is on the offense.

  124. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Is there any pitcher the Yankees CAN hit?

  125. Matt says:

These idiots on TBS are an embarrassment to announcing.

Didn’t take advantage of their opportunities? The Yankees got completely screwed out of 1 and possibly many more runs by the first base umpire. What more can you fucking do when the umpires steal rallies right out of your hands?

  126. Chilango says:

2 runs down and they’re facing Cy Fister. Can’t wait to see Verlander…twice.

  127. RetroRob says:

Hopefully the Yankees can sign this Willie Mayes guy. Need help.

  128. Widget says:

just give up the grand slam already so I can turn this off. Thanks for continuing to suck Swisher and Yankees offense.

  129. John says:

The MLB is pulling a major conspiracy against the Yankees. They know Jim Leyland could drop dead at any second so they want to give him one more shot at another ring.

  130. Jeffery maier is smiling says:

The reason i would have carried Dickerson
Swisher has to be pulled in some of these games.

  131. dkidd says:

    BIG out

  132. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Two Runs, let’s go boys!!

  133. Pettitte has allowed 2 ER in 6 innings.

That’s only good enough for a 2-0 deficit with this offense, these days.

  134. Pasqua says:

I feel like I’ve been watching the same game over and over for the past week. So, so frustrating.

  135. Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

2 runs against Detroit’s bullpen is by no means insurmountable.

    • stuart a says:

who is hitting? arod almost got a single in the firstwhiptydoo.

he is on fire along with the other stooges.

the offense during the regular season is still here against better pitchers, colder temp.(ball does not go as far).

      this offense is pathetic…………..

  136. BigBlueAL says:

Couldve been worse, trailing 2-0 still winnable.

  137. Pete says:

If we were hitting, I’d be really psyched right now.

  138. Alex Rodriguez says:

Guys! Hey I’m back, don’t worry, Im gonna hit two home runs this game! Be patient.

    • SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Nah, just keep trying to pull that sinker. Shortstop is right there waiting for you.

  139. jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy) says:

Just shed my Ride hoodie in favor of my Cano jersey. Don’t worry guys.

  140. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

Let me ask a very unfair question of everyone: Do you make mental notes of other commenters who annoy you?

  141. Matt says:

Rob Drake. 1B Umpire. Remember that name if the Yankees lose by a run or Fister is able to work deep into this game.

  142. Eddard says:

Now some of you might be saying, well 2 runs is nothing with this team and this ballpark. 3-2, 3-2, 2-1, 3-1. Those were the scores the past 4 ballgames and two of those games went into extras. These teams can’t score and they won’t now that Fister is in his rhythm.

  143. Joe F says:

Lets get into their pen this inning. That’s when we’ll do our damage.

Our ground balls with RISP need to find holes. Unless we’re just going to have to hit dingers and line drives. Which is something our offense doesn’t want to do at the moment.

  144. dkidd says:

12 outs to go and detroit’s bullpen is hittable

    good at-bats!

  145. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  146. Well, take that as a break, and score some runs.

  147. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    Oh, please make that hurt.

  148. Pasqua says:

Okay, that’s a break. BUILD ON IT!

  149. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Now DP for A-Rod. LET’S GO!

  150. toad says:

Let’s go here. Time to break out.

  151. Big "Nostradanus" Member says:

time to work my magic again….

    texeira gets a useless walk….
    ibanez pops up…..
    arod hits into double play

  152. dkidd says:

    floodgates opening…

  153. Knoxvillain says:

    Two run bomb incoming.

  154. Cy Pettitte says:

    finally some breaks for us.

  155. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  156. Anthony says:

The luck is evening out!!!! Bout freaking time!

  157. jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy) says:

Holy shit. Two breaks in a row our way. Make this count.

  158. Jeffery maier is smiling says:

    Baltimore chop lol

  159. Matt says:

Not only one, but TWO breaks for the Yankees? Is hell frozen over?

  160. Alright, here we go. I’ll be a dumb sap who believes that there can be some runs scored this inning.

  161. BigBlueAL says:

Finally a couple of breaks for the Yankee offense.

  162. oldmanalex says:

    aright alex, its showtime.

  163. Pete says:

    Now we’re talking.

  164. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Let’s Go Alex!!! just. don’t. K.

  165. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    Well…that’s funny.

  166. Knoxvillain says:

Fuck yes, Ibanez. You just made sure A-Rod can’t GIDP.

  167. Joe F says:

  168. Hummingbird S. says:

oh boy, finally some luck… now let’s see how they blow this opportunity

  169. Alex Rodriguez says:

    My first homer is coming!

  170. Pasqua says:

1B line is wonky tonight. Oh, and Prince Fielder demonstrates that he doesn’t understand the fair / foul rule. Good job.

  171. Matt says:

They better score 2 here. Hit it the other way.

  172. Chilango says:

Take advantage of the break guys let’s go!

  173. Joe F says:

Just bunt because you have no shot Alex. (Reverse Jinx.)

  174. Knoxvillain says:

    Incoming K. Great.

  175. Big "Nostradanus" Member says:

uh oh. tigers must be scared….no outs…2 runners in scoring position…oh wait who is comming up big member? swisher, granderson and arod? hahahahahahahaha

  176. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

    K time.

  177. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

slider away, alex swings throught it.

  178. Joe says:

    Enough with the fucking loyalty.

  179. Pete says:

Well, at least he only made *one* out.

  180. Alex is so fucking awful right now.

  181. wow says:

what a choke job. screw you A-rod.

  182. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

You seriously can’t make this shit up.

  183. Karl Krawfid says:

    Bench this scrub again.

  184. Anthony says:

  185. Hummingbird S. says:

seriously, can anyone defend this motherfucker? 3 pitch strikeout?? FUCK AROD and FUCK GIRARDI

  186. Knoxvillain says:

Fuck you, A-Rod. I hope he gets hit in the head by a Verlander fastball so we don’t have to see him play again.

  187. TinoBambino24 says:

    Cut your wrists, Rodriguez.

  188. mike says:

bench the fucker for the rest of the year

  189. Matt says:

    TBS said it perfectly.

You are batting 2 guys who are a combined 2 for their last 54 with RISP in the postseason BACK TO BACK.

That is how you kill rallies. Fucking idiot Girardi.

  190. Joe F says:

This is fucking pathetic. I’m sorry. I defend Alex all the time, but he constantly strikes out on the SAME pitch every time.

  191. BigBlueAL says:

    Just wow.

  192. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

Girardi manages out of a binder in his gut. Fucking idiot needs to get that fucking piece of shit A-Rod out of this lineup.

  193. Alex Rodriguez says:

    I am a twat.

  194. Jeffery maier is smiling says:

    Swisher up to k

  195. Widget says:

Must be nice to be a pitcher and now that you can put two on with no outs, and still get out of it because A-Rod, Swisher, and Granderson are easy outs.

  196. Knoxvillain says:

We aren’t going to score a fucking run.

  197. Hummingbird S. says:

hanging curve, can’t put it in play

  198. dkidd says:

if monkeys punching random typewriter keys will eventually write “hamlet”, then swisher will get a hit eventually

  199. Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

Can someone send Smoltz a Tigers shirt already?

  200. Karl Krawfid says:

    Fucking Joe Girardi.

  201. Monterowasdinero says:

2 guys who cannot shorten their swings.

    2 dumb, selfish head cases.

Arod and Swish in the post season.

  202. babnik says:

where my sabermetricians? that wasn’t a choke right??? it was…wait for it…too small a sample size!!!!!!

  203. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Swish…take the HBP!

  204. Joe F says:

Let that hit you Swisher. Contribute somehow.

  205. Nice Scheister says:

    This is pathetic.

  206. Athenian says:

    Yankee killers Arod and Swish

  207. BigBlueAL says:

Swish having a much better at-bat than Arod at least.

  208. Knoxvillain says:

    Incoming Grandyslam.

  209. Matt says:

I’m stunned that Swisher didn’t strike out there. Granderson better make him pay for all of these hangers.

  210. Dan in Athens says:

3rd time with bases loaded? Really?

  211. Joe says:

    Do it grandy. I believe.

  212. Anthony says:

OH GOD bases loaded what bull crap is going to happen now???

  213. Pasqua says:

Gee, what could the pitch sequence to Granderson consist of?

  214. Chilango says:

    Swisher good AB.

  215. mike says:

    I smell DP

  216. Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8) says:

    BS strike call there.

  217. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

    Come on Curtis.

  218. Joe F says:

  219. John says:

Bases loaded with one out? Perfect time for an inning ending double play. You know what to do Grandy!

  220. Joe F says:

  221. And ANOTHER three pitch strike out.

    Fuck these guys.

  222. Matt says:

  223. Cy Pettitte says:

    great fucking AB Kurtis.

  224. Knoxvillain says:

    This fucking team.

  225. Anthony says:

I see where this is going.

  226. wow says:

Granderson is sad. this is ridiculous.

  227. True blue says:

I’d trade Curtis back to Det for Coke straight up..

  228. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

    Three pitches.

  229. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    Wow…please Martin…please.

  230. Athenian says:

Hope it is Curtis and not KKKKurtis

  231. BigBlueAL says:

So much for Granderson getting back on track.

  232. Hummingbird S. says:

    very predictable..

  233. TinoBambino24 says:

I have harsh words that I could unleash but I won’t same them. But come on, shitpacker.

  234. Big "Nostradanus" Member says:

and again joe….this is why you BENCH ibanez….so that you can bring him in in this situations.

  235. John says:

    OMG. This team fucking sucks.

  236. mike says:

show some muscle for christ sake

  237. Matt says:

The funny part is that curveball was so terrible down and in that any legitimate lefty power hitter probably hits a grand slam

  238. oldmanalex says:

aright so John smoltz is openly mocking the yankees and their fan base.

  239. Chilango says:

Doesn’t the binder say ARod-Swisher-Granderson is DISASTER?

  240. dkidd says:

    i have faith in russell

  241. Jeffery maier is smiling says:

Ata boy grandy would rather see both you and swisher sitting tommorow.
Rather see gardner and ibanez with ichiro in cf

  242. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

But strikeouts don’t matter, right guys?

  243. Pasqua says:

    Granderson is Pedro Serano incarnate.

    “Fuck you, Jobu.”

  244. Nice Scheister says:

    It’s getting borderline comical.

  245. A-Rod says:

I made 35K during that at bat.

  246. Joe says:

This offense is pathetic. Screw this I’m going to watch Anderson Silva tool a clown.

  247. Joe F says:

Swing at horrible pitches. Take great pitches. Fuck you offense.

  248. Pete says:

Granderson & Swisher will get off the hook for everything *only* because A-Rod is who he is…

    • Joe F says:

      They all suck.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

who gives a shit? they all suck and they all get paid millions of dollars. If they had a real manager those guys wouldn’t be playing anymroe

    • Coolerking101 says:

I call BS. Swisher is costing himself millions, if not tens of millions on the free agent market.

      Granderson will hear it non-stop.

A-Rod is the highest paid player in baseball who other than 2009, has made a career out of choking. What’s his lifetime playoff RISP, not counting 2009? .150/.225/.330? He deserves all the venom that’ spewed his way.

  249. Hummingbird S. says:

what is he waiting for? hanging curve and fastball up… fucking pathetic

  250. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Fuck you Smoltz, he hasn’t “wiggled out” of it here. Yet.

  251. Widget says:

Why is Granderson starting? It’s a serious question. He can’t be allowed to continue to start. He is killing this team.

  252. John says:

We should trade Grandy for Tyler Clippard.

  253. Matt says:

If they don’t even score one run in this inning, the game is probably over.

Just when you think they can’t do any worse, they do this.

  254. Eddard says:

LOL Girardi stacking up ARod, Swisher and Granderson. The whiff, the whiff, the whiff. Martin the whiff. LOL! Just atrocious.

  255. Dan in Athens says:

One K in 5 innings and now Fister strikes out the side for the Yanks third fail with the bases loaded. I cannot even make this shit up.

  256. Knoxvillain says:

I hope they all die. I can’t take this anymore.

inb4 “over the line blah blah blah”

  257. wow says:

well, that’s it. this team is sad. screw this team. all of them.

  258. Karl Krawfid says:

This team will be swept out of the ALCS

  259. True blue says:

  260. Pasqua says:

    This is fucking scary.

  261. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

How do you even come back from that?

  262. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

    what a fucking joke

  263. John says:

I bet A-Rod gets pinch hit for in the 8th or 9th. Not that it will matter by then.

  264. flamingo says:

This is ridiculous. Something’s gotta give.

    • stuart a says:

they will lose that is what will give.

arod is so fucking bad it is indescribable. ditto for swisher and granderson to name 3….

  265. Joe F says:

How did we get this far? It’s one of the most pathetic offenses I’ve seen since 2008.

  266. Anthony says:

  267. RetroRob says:

    This game sucks so far.

Just thought I’d state an outlier thought few agree with.

  268. Eddard says:

It’s over, guys. Even if the good hitters get on you’ve got the three stooges back to back to back. LOL Girardi!

  269. xnyles says:

    LOL. This team.

  270. stuart a says:

  271. Joe says:

I have never hated a team worse than this years team. 2004 was lovable compared to these scubs.

  272. TinoBambino24 says:

    Tomorrow’s lineup:

    SS Jeter
    LF Ichiro
    2B Cano
    1B Tex
    DH Ibanez
    C Martin
    RF Swisher
    CF Gardner

  273. babnik says:

dont worry guys – too small a sample size – no one choked. everything’s great.

  274. TurdFerguson10 says:

Wow, this team is just pitiful. Should have pinch hit CC for ARod.

  275. It’s absolutely fucking unreal how bad this team is with RISP.

I mean, this is #RISPFAIL to the 100th power. Absolute ineptitude.

  276. TinoBambino24 says:

    Tomorrow’s lineup:

    SS Jeter
    LF Ichiro
    2B Cano
    1B Tex
    DH Ibanez
    C Martin
    RF Swisher
    CF Gardner
    3B Chavie

  277. Athenian says:

Good thing two runs is a piece of cake. Yanks are getting swept.

  278. Hummingbird S. says:

this game is already lost. If Joe Girardi comes back tomorrow with all three of A-Rod, Granderson and Swisher, he has to be fired on the spot. It’s time to give Chavez and Gardner ABs. They are a lot better than this pathetic motherfuckers.

  279. Matt says:

There is no other way to put it.

Fister hung pitch after pitch early in the count, and they stood there and took them. Then they swung at shit nowhere near the plate with 2 strikes.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see them get swept if they lose this game. You can’t waste these chances against good pitchers and good teams and EVER expect to win.

  280. Eddard says:

They were handing you at least one run. Hit one groundball and you’ve cut the lead in half. They couldn’t even do that! Chavez and Gardner should be playing tomorrow.

  281. Hugh says:

2nd and 3rd no outs and can’t even put a ball in play. Ineptitude of the highest order.

  282. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

“Oh don’t worry, they scored lots of runs this season. Plus strikeouts are just like any other kind of out.”

  283. Jeffery maier is smiling says:

Send a message giradi send gardner to cf.

  284. wow says:

i don’t see how how having a-rod, swisher, and granderson in one lineup is even remotely a good idea. let alone stack them all.

    • stuart a says:

einstein where do you want to bat them? arod 4th? etc.

they just fucking suck…it is not girardi’s fault these over paid pieces of shit simply suck…

      not real complicated…..

  285. Pasqua says:

I don’t normally get into the psychological stuff, but here’s my concern: How much longer can we expect quality starts from the rotation? At some point, the starters will feel the pressure of having to be perfect in order to give the team a chance to win. What happens then?

  286. Monterowasdinero says:

A push bunt. A go to weapon when you cannot make contact with the bases loaded. These guys are so awful and inflexible.

  287. JLC 776 says:

I don’t care for this particular brand of Yankees baseball at all.

  288. Pasqua says:

If it’s possible to be mindfucked, the Yankees are totally mindfucked.

  289. stuart a says:

this has occured all season long…

the tigers will beat the yanks for the 3rd straight playoffs…

there offense is the worst i have seen in my lieftime and i am an old fuck.

  290. dkidd says:

    just get to their bullpen

we can win this game (but that was an epic epic fail)

  291. Eddard says:

Remember what everyone told you guys, you can’t hit 4 solo home runs in the postseason. You have to get clutch hits with RISP. And people just waved it off and said, no we don’t. Yes you do. Detroit did and that’s why they’re going to win this ballgame.

  292. Peter says:

LOL. THis lineup is freaking pathetic. Bunch of chokers. Tigers had 1 chance in 6 innings to score, meanwhile, we had 3 bases loaded. This is just f*** ridiculously

  293. John says:

Id pinch hit litteraly anyone on the team for Arod and grandy. Id seriously send Eppley in a pressure situation over arod. Hed at least make contact.

  294. Pete says:

All things considered, this would be an excellent outing by Andy to give up 2 in 7 to this team…

  295. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

This is the kind of game that could make me murder someone.

I think Smoltz is first on my list.

  296. Starks says:

Iv said when i saw the lineup and i will say it again, wtf is girardi thinking having arod swish cheese and granderson back to back to back???. U Nreal man.

  297. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  298. JLC 776 says:

Sorry, Pettitte. You don’t deserve this kind of crap.

Four more losses until Kevin Long is fired.

    • stuart a says:

that will help.. will it help swisher get a brain and some balls? help granderson get a clue..

help arod whatever, he is so pathetic, cry me a river.

      • Knoxvillain says:

Swisher will be gone soon, thank God.

      • JLC 776 says:

It will help the ‘swing for the fences with every AB’ mentality. It will help the ‘inability to adjust to how I’m being pitched’ disease we’ve seen. This team is conditioned from top to bottom to zero in on the short fence and nothing else.

  299. Just imagine – this is the best lineup money can buy.

    • Pete says:

Problem becomes when everyone hits HRs all year long, and then no one sees themselves as a table setter. Everyone thinks they can be the slugger, and then you have people like Granderson and Swisher swinging at crap.

      • Pasqua says:

I also think that HR’s are hit because pitchers make mistakes (a flat slider, a missed spot, etc.). In the playoffs, the quality of pitching is better, which leads to fewer mistakes and, in turn, fewer homeruns. Also, I think many guys fall into the Stadium Swing and that leads to the uppercut. I don’t think they’re thinking “Hit a homerun!” but they’ve adapted their swings (for better or for worse).

    • nyyankfan7 says:

that’s the problem, we don’t have the guys who are willing to hit the ground ball to score a run. every one of our guys thinks they need to hit a home run every at bat and be the hero.

  300. Anthony says:

I wish Pettite could make Grandy and A-rod feel like shit about that inning. I’ve never seen a choke job like that before. Even when we get LUCKY BREAKS we STILL can’t do anything with them.

  301. Cuso says:

So….maybe the off-season gameplan should be to get some offense?

  302. John says:

Oh heres AJAX, the guy we game up for the K machine.

    • stuart a says:

moron yankee fans did not want to wait for him to develop…

yankee fans have the patience of a dog….

granderson sucks.. i have been saying it all season along with my gripes about arod, cano, and others but nah….they will be fine…

afterall they hit home runs, accept arod he is a singles hitter if he hits ever………..

      • Joe F says:

Granderson does not suck. He’s a streaky home run hitter. Most HR hitters don’t hit .300 with 40 home runs. They take big hacks and risks. Therefore Grandy’s K% goes up. Is Jackson better right now? Yes, but don’t say Granderson sucks. That’s false.

      • Nice Scheister says:

“accept arod, he is a singles hitter.”

        It is what it is.

  303. Nathan says:

The Yankees don’t deserve to win this game…not like they will, just saying that they don’t deserve to win the way they (aren’t) hitting.

    Geezus this offense is frustrating.

  304. “Kramerica Industries says:
    October 13, 2012 at 9:52 pm
Alright, here we go. I’ll be a dumb sap who believes that there can be some runs scored this inning.”

    Good call, asshole.

  305. Tom says:

Hero ball! He had 1 strikeout coming into that inning. and he strikes out the side with a guy on 3rd.

Somebody shorten up a damn swing with 2 strikes. No change in approach whatsoever, Fister knows this and abuses them with K’s 3 breaking pitches well out of the zone.

At least Swisher had some discipline, but with men on base there are just too many wannabe heroes looking to pull the ball 500ft instead of just putting a ball in play.

  306. 101010 says:

I wish I was at the game so I could start a “please retire” chant every time Arod fails to deliver.

  307. oldmanalex says:

fuck… i sooo wish we still had austin over curtis,

  308. Sdjohn says:

Well at least they are takin their A swings eh mike

  309. John says:

As a joke but in a total serious way, someone should replace Arods and Grandys NY on their hat with a K. They’ll get the message.

  310. dalelama says:

The Chokemasters strike again. It is disgraceful to see Arod quit like a dog and not run out the dropped strike three.

  311. Mick taylor says:

Arod grandy and Martin all swung at the same pitch in the dirt why didn’t they recognize that as aball after arod swung at it where is Kevin long

  312. Eddard says:

And how much would you like to have Austin Jackson back right now? A young, speedy good defender who hits for average. We’re stuck with an aging strike out machine who is a horrible defender in CF. Jackson got the clutch hit to spark his team. Granderson struck out on 3 pitches for the 30th time in a row with RISP.

  313. Chilango says:

Einstein said doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is insanity. WTF are ARod and Granderson and Swisher doing in the lineup? Put in Chavez and Gardner FFS. Too bad CDick is not here, so we’re still stuck with Mr smiley face Nick -I’m laughing all the way to the bank so who gives a fuck -Swisher.

  314. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Choo and Upton for Yankees ’13. Sign my petition!!

  315. Cuso says:

Is anyone else getting sick of “A-Rod face?”

You know, when he takes a very hittable strike one, sticks his bottom lip out and nods emphatically like he agrees with the call.

  316. Joe F says:

    I’m so mad.

  317. John says:

Its so selfish for Arod to not do what is necessary to give him the ability to hit: Steroids.

  318. True blue says:

Tomorrow the of needs to be Ibanez, Gardner, Ichiro in the OF and Chavez at 3rd.. I’d DH Nix for Christsakes- he hd better AB’s than 90%o the team

  319. Here’s a stat to chew on: 16 runs in 56 innings this postseason, which is 2.57 R/G. But, there’s more to that. They’ve had one inning where they scored multiple runs, and that was the outburst in Game 1 against the Orioles. Exclude that one paltry inning (out of 56), and that number drops to 1.80 R/G. Seriously.

    • Chilango says:

Right. Ibañez basically saved the series. Not going to happen twice. We lose tonight then get Verlander twice. Does not look good.

  320. Nathan says:

No reason to be angry, Andy.

Not your fault the hitters can’t get a hit.

  321. Anthony says:

Fans should be cheering Pettite harder.

  322. BigBlueAL says:

Pettitte may not want to come back next season with the type of run support he has gotten this postseason.

  323. fin says:

Cant say I’m surprised with the RISP. The way they struggled during the regular season I saw no reason to believe they would turn it around when the spotlight was on. That being said, bases loaded 3x and no runs is pretty damn impressive even for the Yankees.

  324. Eddard says:

Andy did more than enough tonight. He did his job. He was hurt by an awful offense and Teixera just standing there and pointing while Swisher had to run all the way in from RF to get Austin Jackson’s triple.

  325. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

They could have tied the score with OUTS. That’s all I wanted. Sac flies still exist, right?

  326. Knoxvillain says:

Nice job by Pettitte. Too bad he’s stuck having to support a bunch of choking cocksuckers.

  327. Big "Nostradanus" Member says:

Okay. Ive done enough game watching to analise what is wrong with this team. The nswer is simple. Our guys are not hitting. At all. in these deer times we need to take action.

texas is out of the race. their franchise is now the joke of the league. but they have one player who can change the outcome. who is is big member you will say? the asnwer is rather obvious really. we need ALL the hitters texas has. but thats just silly. texas cant trade all thier players! but they can trade ther very best…josh hamilton.

since texas season is over, they can make trades. i made sure this is right becasue i asked my firend and he said yeah. so we need totrade for josh who is a free agent when the season is over anyway and texas doesnt really need him becasue they are not playing anymore this year. simple right? we have alot of picthing that we can give texas. i think ivan nova and phelps should cover ALDS and potentially WS for josh.

we will need to pump josh back into shape tho but its easy, just get the coke and boze and hes ready to mash. sit swisher, granderson and arod and let them learn from the JOSH

  328. Luisergi says:

You are great Andy, don’t be mad, just kick A-rod in the nuts for me.

    • Nice Scheister says:

Andy went to urinate in A-Rod and Grandys lockers. Or maybe turd in them. It will be a mystery, like AJs black eye.

  329. Matt says:

This is not rocket science. Fister threw curveball after curveball in the dirt. He basically did to this team what you thought was only possible in a video game.

These hitters can’t believe that he threw another curveball, even though that is practically the only pitch he threw in the inning.

  330. Hugh says:

Really Lowe in a close game. Saving DRob for what, please?

  331. Luke says:

    Risp fail!! Triple face palm!

  332. Cy Pettitte says:

Derek Lowe struck out Miggy on 3 pitches LOL

  333. Hall and Nokes says:

  334. Luisergi says:

WOW Andy IS MAD!!! i love that guy!!!

  335. flamingo says:

If I told you before the game that Cabrera would be unable to do much of anything at the plate, and Fielder would have been held to just a single, and the Yankees would have 9 baserunners off of Fister, and Pettitte would have been lights out, would you think they’d lose this game?
