He would probably already be out of this game if not for the umpire blowing that call at first.
We’ll never know how far that inning would have gone. Infuriating.
4 hits and 3 walks in just four innings for Fister and they have 0 runs. And I don’t want to hear this garbage about crooked umps or lucky defense. Crush bad pitching, hustle to first and that doesn’t happen. Fister is throwing 90 mph right down the middle on 2-0 and 3-1 and they’re doing nothing.
Cano was safe. He busted it down the line. What more can you do?
They never had the chance to do damage because they had two 2-run singles taken away from them and Fister was bailed out of the inning on the missed call at first.
You can’t expect a good pitcher to give up baserunner after baserunner all night. They did what they had to do, and ran into some terrible luck, again.

Fister sucks tonight but not as bad as our offense. He’s way off the plate and then just lays it in there and they still can’t do anything with it. If it weren’t for the Ibañez miracle, we probaly wouldn’t even be here. Ball-less Joe needs to bench ARod, Swisher and Granderson before it’s too late.
Pretty sure I would have even less confidence in the three players that would replace those guys.

In the 1st/2nd inning I thought it looked like the offense was actually going to break that habit of failing to get to a pitcher when he is shaky early on and then disappearing completely in innings 3-8. I have no idea why I thought that would happen. They have been piss useless ever since A-Rod’s rally-killing GIDP. They haven’t even done anything to work the pitch count and get to the pen since that GIDP, which sucked not just for stifling a potential rally but also for making it a short inning pitch-wise.

I don’t normally get into the psychological stuff, but here’s my concern: How much longer can we expect quality starts from the rotation? At some point, the starters will feel the pressure of having to be perfect in order to give the team a chance to win. What happens then?

It will help the ‘swing for the fences with every AB’ mentality. It will help the ‘inability to adjust to how I’m being pitched’ disease we’ve seen. This team is conditioned from top to bottom to zero in on the short fence and nothing else.
Just imagine – this is the best lineup money can buy.
Problem becomes when everyone hits HRs all year long, and then no one sees themselves as a table setter. Everyone thinks they can be the slugger, and then you have people like Granderson and Swisher swinging at crap.
I also think that HR’s are hit because pitchers make mistakes (a flat slider, a missed spot, etc.). In the playoffs, the quality of pitching is better, which leads to fewer mistakes and, in turn, fewer homeruns. Also, I think many guys fall into the Stadium Swing and that leads to the uppercut. I don’t think they’re thinking “Hit a homerun!” but they’ve adapted their swings (for better or for worse).
that’s the problem, we don’t have the guys who are willing to hit the ground ball to score a run. every one of our guys thinks they need to hit a home run every at bat and be the hero.
I wish Pettite could make Grandy and A-rod feel like shit about that inning. I’ve never seen a choke job like that before. Even when we get LUCKY BREAKS we STILL can’t do anything with them.

Here’s a stat to chew on: 16 runs in 56 innings this postseason, which is 2.57 R/G. But, there’s more to that. They’ve had one inning where they scored multiple runs, and that was the outburst in Game 1 against the Orioles. Exclude that one paltry inning (out of 56), and that number drops to 1.80 R/G. Seriously.

Cant say I’m surprised with the RISP. The way they struggled during the regular season I saw no reason to believe they would turn it around when the spotlight was on. That being said, bases loaded 3x and no runs is pretty damn impressive even for the Yankees.
