ALCS Game One Spillover Thread IV

Fifth career 0-for-6 for Robinson Cano and his second in three days.

Categories : Game Threads, Playoffs

  1. Cy Pettitte says:

Phelps vs Miggy and Prince is less than ideal

  2. Simply can’t score any runs while keeping the ball in the ballpark.

  3. DT says:

Arod gets benched but the guy going 0-6 every game is going to keep batting third.

  4. stuart a says:

amen on phelps, cross your fingers.

  5. The Real Greg says:

And of course, if the ump makes the correct call in the second inning, we’re not having this conversation.

  6. Luisergi says:

I’m scared now of the curvy guys due up

  7. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    Who wants a touchdown?

  8. Karl Krawfid says:

Cano can’t pull a ball to save his life.

Swinging 2-1 or 2-0 which Ich had that ball stolen easy.

Sick of this home run or nothing shit man.

  9. JLC 776 says:

This is slowly shifting from feeling like Game 3 to feeling like Game 4.

    HUGE half-inning ahead.

  10. Tom Q says:

Deep down I knew they weren’t going to avoid another trip through Cabrera/Fielder. It’s the way the last six weeks have gone: agony first.

  11. Matt says:

Unfortunately we are starting to run out of pitchers as well thanks to Girardi’s pointless mixing and matching earlier in the game.

The longer that this goes on, the more likely it is that Detroit gets lucky and steals this one right back. We are giving them way too much hope, and here come Cabrera and Fielder…

  12. stuart a says:

the only guys who get big hits on the yanks have to be 38 years old or older.

    cano is atrocious…give me a break..key inning….

  13. McLovin says:

    This game is taking forever.

  14. Miggy and Prince.

This is the price to pay when you can’t take care of business on offense.

  15. jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy) says:

Miggy/Prince. Yanks gonna have to REALLY earn this. But I still feel good.

  16. Effthisnoise says:

    Tigers score here

  17. bobtaco says:

    No Drob? Oh no.

  18. forensic says:

Is the announcing crew contractually barred from saying Cano is 0-22 now?!?!?!

  19. RkyMtnYank says:

Let’s go, low and inside just like Lowe did last time.

  20. BigBlueAL says:

Im closing my eyes for this half-inning.

  21. Matt says:

Why is Robertson not facing Cabrera and Fielder?

    Is Girardi nuts?

  22. handtius says:

phelps. needs to come up big here.

  23. Karl Krawfid says:

Trying to hit a walk off home run when all you need is a fucking single man.

Could have choked up and put the ball in play.

  24. oldmanalex says:

remember those days when we would all gather, quite naively.. about person A batting third, while person B needing to protect him…. those days are long gone. This lineup is so out of wack, yet somehow the people you least expect, come through. lol.

  25. WHIPunk says:

    Cmon david destroy Goliath!!!

  26. Anthony says:

Can’t even advance the lead off base-runner?? Inexcusable! Why can’t these damn hitters get inspired by Ichiro and Ibanez? This team is being carried by I^2

  27. JLC 776 says:

Boy, we really need to win this game. Going DEEP into the pen with Kuroda on short rest tomorrow today.

  28. WHIPunk says:

Every one of his swings scare the crap outta me.

  29. The Real Greg says:

He’s pitched Miguel well so far.

  30. Havok9120 says:

I would’ve preferred DRob stay in but, for reasons passing understanding, I’m still feeling a W.

  31. WHIPunk says:

That swing almost gave me a heart attack hopefully he doesnt straighten them out.

  32. Chilango says:

Why isn’t DRob still in for the big bats?

  33. JLC 776 says:

    Each swing terrifies me…

  34. Karl Krawfid says:

Keep pitching to the same spot and he will kill you David.

  35. Nice Scheister says:

  36. 1-2 to a walk.

    That’s really, really bad, David.

  37. The Real Greg says:

We’ll take that. Miguel is not a good baserunner. Neither is Prince

  38. Karl Krawfid says:

    Can’t walk him damn.

  39. RkyMtnYank says:

Fuck , why did they go away at all. Low and in was working perfectly.

  40. BigBlueAL says:

    I cant watch.

  41. Eddard says:

And now Phelps is going to have to contend with Miggy and Fielder. Should have won it there. After DRob we lose just like we did Game 4 of the ALDS. Smyly? Can’t believe they couldn’t beat him.

  42. Chilango says:

Why TF did Girardi take DRob out

  43. Advances the base runner, though. That’s not good.

  44. Karl Krawfid says:

Better pray that walk doesn’t score.

  45. JLC 776 says:

    C’mon, THEY can do it!!!

  46. Chilango says:

    Some bad shit coming

  47. bobtaco says:

Why not walk Young with the base open?

  48. Eddard says:

I wouldn’t even pitch to Delmon Young. He’ll hit it off the rosin bag and it’ll ricochet out of the ballpark.

  49. Phelps does not look good.

  50. Luisergi says:

If Young comes trough again i’m gonna throw up

  51. bobtaco says:

    Thanks Swish.

  52. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

    All for naught.

  53. Swisher fucks up again.

    Go figure.

  54. JLC 776 says:

  55. Karl Krawfid says:

Seen that a mile a fuck way.

Should have lost in 9. Fucking trash team.

  56. True blue says:

Fuck you Swisher.. I hope you rot in Kansas City you overrated chump

  57. BigBlueAL says:

Great job Girardi bringing in fucking Phelps and again great D by Swish.

  58. babnik says:

    oh god make it stop

  59. oldmanalex says:

if swisher is not benched tomorrow. I refuse to watch baseball.

  60. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Fuck Swish.

  61. Eddard says:

Why even pitch to him. And why take out DRob. Swisher’s a buffoon.

  62. Nice Scheister says:

Fucking Swisher. Bullshit. What was that?!

  63. JLC 776 says:

One more reason why Swisher is useless to this team.

  64. Chilango says:

Of course. Will someone please tell me why Phelps was put in there and why the didn’t put Young on. Swisher fucks up again (by the way)

  65. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

    WHAT THE FUCK, Swisher.

Also, I don’t like Phelps over another D-Rob or Joba AT ALL here.

  66. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

    WHAT THE FUCK, Swisher.

Also, I don’t like Phelps over another D-Rob or Joba AT ALL here.

  67. RkyMtnYank says:

    That’s Swishers fault, unbelievable!

  68. True blue says:

    Phelps is dog shit

  69. Matt says:

Take out your best pitcher when their best hitters are coming to the plate. What do you think is going to happen when you give them that kind of opening?

Girardi may have single handedly lost them nearly every game this postseason that they haven’t won. It’s unbelievable to think that a guy could be so stupid.

  70. McLovin says:

    Swisher just fucking sucks

  71. Effthisnoise says:

    Swish on the take

  72. Cy Pettitte says:

Swisher is such a fucking loser. saw this loss coming, no way Phelps was gonna get through an inning starting with Miggy and Prince unscathed. How do you not use D-Rob?

  73. Knoxvillain says:

Girardi bringing in Phelps when he was bad his last outing.

Throwing Robertson and Soriano one inning each.

    Fucking idiot.

  74. The Real Greg says:

Oh well. Give credit to the Yankees for making this a fight. That’s all we can and should ask for in a playoff system where luck plays a dominant factor.

    • Matt says:

Shut up. You’re such an idiot. I can’t believe you actually believe what you say in these posts.

When you pop up or strike out every time a runner is on base, you are not getting unlucky. Wake up and stop being a fucking idiot.

      • The Real Greg says:

Do you think they are intentionally failing in their jobs. Do you think they want to fail?

The whole game of baseball is essentially boiled down to this. Hitting a ball with a little wooden stick and “HOPING” that it falls in somewhere amongst a grass field.

        • Matt says:

You are so stupid. They aren’t hitting the ball hard. Weak fly balls, pop ups, and strike outs are almost never going to lead to base hits. I’m done wasting my time arguing with you. Stop making excuses and accept that these guys CHOKED mightily.

  75. Can’t hit. Can’t field. Get that POS off this baseball team.

  76. Luisergi says:

Fuck you Swisher, Chinga tu puta madre maricon de mierda, keep smiling you fool.

  77. Karl Krawfid says:

Pitching around Cabrera for no fucking reason. NO FUCKING REASON.

  78. xnyles says:

    Now he decides to dive.

  79. TomH says:

Phelps isn’t ready for prime time. He’s got promise, but I guess I would have taken my chances with Robertson against their big guys.

  80. stuart a says:

swusher after the game should be classic.

that is plain and simple an error..

    you must catch it…

  81. bobtaco says:

Should have walked Young with the base open, inexcusable by Girardi

  82. Eddard says:

Swisher should just quit baseball and become an aerobics and tumbling teacher. He’s worthless.

  83. JJ says:

Said it before and I’ll say it again … Swisher is one of the worst players in MLB post season history.

  84. Joe says:

    But but he walks.

  85. BigBlueAL says:

Opposing team’s strategy is to take the Yankees to extra innings and wait for Phelps to come in.

  86. Anthony says:

Well, the 9th inning was a nice little honeymoon. Talk about A-rod? What about Swisher? At least A-rod is solid at 3B… same with Cano. Jesus christ.

  87. Captain Gift Basket says:

Yanks- fucking figure Delmon Young out already. The guy’s a fucking hacker. Fucking pathetic.

  88. Jobamania says:

missed a lot of the game was out but caught the 9th/10th innings

why is swisher still playing? Gardner was pinch running for someone no?

  89. Andrew says:

    David Phelps is dead wood.

  90. Nice Scheister says:

That was totally catchable by a better OF, yes it was smoked but wow. I miss Ichiro in RF.

  91. Jobamania says:

    jeter lol

  92. True blue says:

    I hate David Phelps

  93. bobtaco says:

    oh fuck. fuck fuck fuck.

  94. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

  95. Karl Krawfid says:

    Series is over now folks.

    Thanks Offense!

  96. Oh great. That’s what we need to have more of.

  97. Pat D (I'm not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.) says:

Oh for the love of Vader.

  98. Peter says:

    Season is over. Jeter injured

  99. PreserveTheJoba says:

    Jeter? Jeter, are you okay?

  100. BigBlueAL says:

I would have rather lost 4-0.

    • RkyMtnYank says:

Really, so you would rather get your ass kicked than have a chance to actually win the game? Brilliant!!!!

      • Bo Knows says:

If Jeter is seriously hurt, it probably would be better to lose one battle and live to fight and possibly win the war, than lose your best player (and in the post he has been the best player on this team) and severely cripple your chances to win this series.

  101. Chilango says:

This one’s on Girardi. Fuck you.

  102. stuart a says:

    saw this coming…

the yankees cannot get over the hump.

cano is a joke… this team is a joke.

they are living off a 40 year old guy with magic…

phelps again could not get the job done and swisher did not help.

  103. The Real Greg says:

I don’t know why all of you are so upset. Did you “expect” differently?

I didn’t expect the Yankees to beat the Tigers. I didn’t expect the Orioles to beat the Tigers either. Because they are both too streaky on offense.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    • handtius says:

oh just shut the fuck up. yeah, i watch the yankee games to root for them to not win or expect them not to win. stupidest comment i’ve heard in a long time.

    • Havok9120 says:

Oh for the love of God….

I defend you a lot, but Jesus Greg. You’re watching the team while expecting to lose? You think we should all be expecting the team that finished 1st in the AL to lose? And you don’t understand why Derek Jeter getting hurt and us making a 9th inning comeback and then giving up 2 in the 12th makes people upset?

      • The Real Greg says:

Because the best team almost never wins it all. You know that. Were the Cardinals the best team last year? No.
Why did they win? They got hot. AND THEY GOT LUCKY.

        Keyword: LUCKY

The only time in the Torre Era where the Yankees had the best record in baseball and won was 1998.

  104. Jobamania says:

i cannot wait until next years gardner grandy ichiro OF

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

50Homers combined from the outfield?! Brilliant!

      • Jobamania says:

        better than stat padding outfielders

        • Havok9120 says:

No, it really isn’t. Those stat padding outfielders produced quite a bit while playing decent-good defense despite injuries. Granderson played every game for half the season. We finished 1st in the league and made it to the ALCS and now we’re making fairly huge changes to the complexion of the team.

          • Jobamania says:

no its removing swisher for gardner, thats it

            • Havok9120 says:

But the production is a major change. That’s what I meant by complexion. Its the difference between this year’s having one slap hitter in the OF about half the time two having 2 slap hitters in the OF ALL the time. You’re talking virtually no power from the corners, a guy who missed the season and has never been an offensive force in Gardner, and Ichiro, who’s looked done for all but the last few weeks.

Where are we replacing the lost offense? An ARod resurgence? Tex flashback to 2007? The Captain supposed to have an even BETTER year than this one?

              • Jobamania says:

remember when derek jeter looked done too?
ichiro provides 10-15HR power, great defense, and 30 stolen bases

garder can get on base, best defense in the league, and 40+sb

grandy gives you 40HR… unfortunately no longer any sb

with swisher you lose 20-25HR but thats it

  105. Cy Pettitte says:

this just keeps getting better. none of this would have happened if they could get a fucking hit with RISP.

  106. Tom Q says:

    Great. A double disaster.

  107. bobtaco says:

    I think his Achilles popped.

  108. handtius says:

oh fuck oh ufck oh fuck oh fuck.

  109. rconn23 says:

    Just a devastating loss.

  110. TomH says:

Ichiro and Raul did their bit, but these other guys are a mess and are getting a lesson from the Tigers in how to come through.

  111. WHIPunk says:

oh great fking great… roll out the cannnons

  112. True blue says:

    Not good..

  113. Eddard says:

And that comeback was all for naught. Jeter’s now gone, too. All because Swisher is a buffoon and Joe hasn’t realized that Delmon Young destroys us.

  114. Nice Scheister says:

    I blame Swisher.

  115. Chilango says:

    Now we lose Jeter.

  116. Bo Knows says:

If Jeter has to miss any time, this series might be over…..

  117. JLC 776 says:

    Now I think I’ve lost hope…

  118. McLovin says:

This is just getting worse and worse :(

  119. WHIPunk says:

IF FUCKING Cano/A-Rod/Swisher/Curtis would have been able to get us ANY production Jeter would have never been injured…. Im so sick of our inability to hit with RISP, Cashman better bust his ass this winter.

    • Captain Gift Basket says:

He’ll focus on pitching like he always does. Because God knows, our pitchers can’t hit with the bases loaded against the Tigers.

  120. Effthisnoise says:

And now the captain. Way to go heros that cant move runners. Nice. fister line drive off his wrist pitchesc7 shutout innings, Jeter trips in mud, prob gone for the post season

  121. Ari says:

i wish they would have just lost in the 9th screw this

  122. BigBlueAL says:

Im still trying to figure out why Phelps started this inning.

  123. WHIPunk says:

Lol and we dont even have Nunny for short… we have Nix!

  124. PreserveTheJoba says:

    This is a nightmare

  125. The Real Greg says:

And now the “fire Girardi” crowd is going to come out. In one of his best managerial years according to multiple people.

  126. Cy Pettitte says:

this is the worst defensive inning ever. that’s an easy DP.

  127. These guys are fucking morons. Unbelievable.

  128. TJF says:

That did it, even my optimism is exhausted now

  129. McLovin says:

Phelps please just has to go

  130. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    The incompetence is astounding.

  131. Luisergi says:

fucking nightmare, i’m blaming Raul for prolonging it.

  132. Nathan says:

I’m not trying to panic here but…

  133. DT says:

    Phelps needs to go away

  134. TomH says:

I’m “watching” Gameday. What happened to Jeter?

  135. Eddard says:

It’s over. The Captain is now lost for the rest of the playoffs. Phelps is an idiot. Swisher doesn’t do anything but do barrel rolls. Valverde won’t be closing anymore games so this was our chance.

  136. RetroRob says:

So if they had to DL Jeter, he wouldn’t even be eligible for the next series either?

That looked quite bad. ACL bad.

  137. WHIPunk says:

Put it in the books, this game is gone, and with the way our offense is looking, this series is a supreme long shot, I hope we win 1 game because we still have to face their top 2 pitchers…

  138. DT says:

I would be happy to never see Phelp pitch again this post season.

  139. Jobamania says:

Lineup needs to be Ichiro/arod/cano/teix/ibanez(DH)/granderson/martin/nix(miss nunez)/gardner

  140. Mick taylor says:

Swisher should have caught the fly hit by fielder and the one hit by young he sucks. And why did girardi think phelps could handle the 12 th inning

  141. True blue says:

Take him the fuck out of the game.. This guy Is Sergio Fucking Mitre

  142. stuart a says:

    implosion time.

Jeter is done btw. WHatever his injury is it is bad…

Jeter is everything Cano is not..

Hope the delusions realize how overrated Cano is….He is a hack unless you are john smoltz who said he is selective at the plate.

Phelps is imploding, all started with the leadoff walk……

  143. CH says:

There was no reason to pitch to Delmon Young with first base open. How many times does he have to beat the Yankees before Girardi stops pitching to him? Especially with Phelps pitching.

Peralta and the rest of the hitters are terrible. They could have easily gotten out of the inning if they had walked Young.

  144. TJF says:

Taking Grandy out for Gardner was stupid,

Not pitching his pen longer and ending up with Phelps was stupid,

    Starting Swisher was stupid,

    Starting AROD was stupid,

And on and on, lots of very poor decisions made in this game AND poor play.

  145. Okie Yankee says:

Does Swish not get laid if he comes home with a clean uni. What a deush, he always tumbles when he doesn’t have to. At least he’s hitting. Oh wait. But hey let’s bench Arod and pinch hit all we can for him while Swish kills em.

  146. stuart a says:

jeter is done for the series, now the yanks will really fold.

you will find; cano, arod, swisher and grandy lieing in the corner of the lockerroom in the fetal position looking for there mommies…

  147. Nice Scheister says:

A-Rod at SS tomorrow and Chavez at 3B?

  148. Ari says:

anyone else want Girardi far away, why Phelps just why I dont get it. dude clearly isnt ready for this he showed it the other night and hes shown it again just awful Girardi just hate it

  149. wow says:

sorry, but Phelps should never have been in the game. the idea of saving robertson for tomorrow is invalid. the game was given right back to the yankees when they had no business tying it up… their best hitters are coming up. you have to pitch your best available guy.

girardi is really screwing the pooch.

  150. CG says:

Well I assume that we’ll lose this game and that Jeter will not be back until next year. That being said, im not giving up on the ALCS. Jeter going down might light something under them. I have no rational basis for thinking that, only hope.

    • Pasqua says:

Saying it will lead them to victory is just as baseless as saying it will lead to defeat, so might as well be optimistic. We’ll just have to find out.

  151. TJF says:

Jeter gone might be the last straw for this year. No way do they win the series without Jeter.

  152. Karl Krawfid says:

All they needed was a base fucking hit.

Martin was swinging for the damn fences.

    Home run or nothing team.

  153. Alright.

Time to save yourselves, again. ESPECIALLY YOU, Swisher. I’m not even sure a miracle two-run HR would atone for all the detrimental bullshit he has done to this team this postseason, and throughout his Yankee postseason career.

  154. JLC 776 says:

    Deep breath…

Here’s the narrative: with the Captain down (but still in the dugout for every second), the bats come alive and the superstars get some fire back.

    Could happen?

  155. Chilango says:

You saw this coming. More chances than they deserved, to win and they choke. OK we’re used to that. But what.. THE FUCK.. was Girardi thinking putting Phelps in against the big bats.

  156. Eddard says:

Girardi just didn’t want to win this ballgame. His entire pen had the night off last night courtesy of CC and he treated it like it was a Spring Training game. Soriano and DRob for 1 inning only? Lowe left in when it’s 2-0? Awful managing. And that directly led to the Jeter injury. It’s OVER.

  157. handtius says:

I’m eternally positive, but loosing jeter puts a massive hurt on this team. Going to make it very tough on them going forward if he can’t play. Someone will have to step up huge. HUGE.

  158. DT says:

This was all Arod’s fault obviously.

  159. RetroRob says:

I wonder if A-Rod can play SS?

That’s right. I just asked that.

    • Nice Scheister says:

It may invigorate him, I’m grasping for anything here.

    • Pasqua says:

Dude can barely move laterally at 3B. They will NEVER put him in that position. He hasn’t been there in almost a decade, and he’s already been put through the ringer enough.

  160. Candi says:

I blame this one on Leyland. If he had pulled Valverde when he was supposed to, we’d just take the loss in the 9th without Jeter getting hurt.

  161. Bill R says:

Guy Smyly here pitching like Nolan Ryan

  162. Nice Scheister says:

Recall Nunez for Jeter, then Nova for Phelps (ball hit his hand), he may suck but IMO Phelps’ nerves are to blame more than his stuff/ability. Nova’s extra rest may have him ready to roll like tide.

  163. True blue says:

I never thought I’d miss Bobby “scared shitless of the RF wall” Abreu

  164. Karl Krawfid says:

Chavez should not play over A-Rod.

  165. Jobamania says:

jeter probably out for the season

  166. DT says:

I hope we are all enjoying Eric Chavez.

  167. BigBlueAL says:

Yankees shouldnt bother playing a 3B, just play with 8 players.

  168. TJF says:

Sterling is saying Jeter might have turned his ankle

  169. Mick taylor says:

Girardi is an idiot for playing swisher any good outfielder catches those balls by fielder and young . And wtf did girardi pitch to Delma on young I told all you folks that swishalicious will help the tigers win when he is not hurting at the plAte he is giving runs to the tigers with his fielding I wanted cdick in right tonite but oh no the choke king had to play

  170. NickVA says:

Sometimes Girardi over manages with the pitchers.

  171. Peter says:

Phelps is not the problem. Our offense is. Its inexcusable what we`re doing this Postseason. Aside from Jeter, Ichiro and Raul, its insane how bad this offense looks like. And it seems like every year its the same players that fail under pressure, some guys simply cannot handle pressure. Our offense is great for the regular season, where we can hit 5 solo HR`s against bad pitching. Just look how the cardinals won last night, some great ab`s, opposite field line drives and some clutch hits. Thats how you win in the postseason.

  172. Matt says:

This is how the terrible offense can affect a team.

They have had chance after chance to win it after Ibanez tied it up, and failed over and over again.

Because of that, more relievers had to pitch in the game. Jeter had to play more innings on his hurt foot, and now he’s hurt a lot worse.

And to top it all off, they are going to lose the game most likely.

Besides Ibanez, this team has pretty much not shown up all postseason offensively.

  173. RkyMtnYank says:

I love how when the Yanks came back it got very quiet here, except those who don’t bitch about every single thing, then, they get down and all negative a-holes come back. Almost entertaining actually! ha

  174. And Swisher strikes out.

  175. bobtaco says:

    Nice AB Swish, MVP.

  176. PinstripesInCali says:

I’m pretty sure Jeets broke his leg. It appeared to be weighted in an odd direction (a-la Buster Posey), and was hanging at an odd angle as they were walking off.

If so, you heard it here first.

  177. oldmanalex says:

SWISHER/CHAVEZ…. and we are still benching AROD, give me A MUTHAFUKING BREAK.

  178. Bret "The Hitman" Gardner says:

Swisher is such a waste of life.

  179. Luisergi says:

Ohh fuck Scherzer or whatever your fucking name is spelled

  180. Karl Krawfid says:

Swish should not play again for the Yankees.

  181. Nice Scheister says:

Swisher needs to be DFA’ed and they need to recall C-Dick this is awful.

  182. BigBlueAL says:

The 2012 Yankees: I love them, I fucking hate them, I love them then I fucking hate them again.

  183. Matt says:

Smyly is terrible. I’m sorry. His curveball has no bite, and his fastball is straight and not very fast.

These guys have given up. It’s pathetic. And Swisher, after opening the floodgates with his pitiful defense, with the worst of them all.

  184. Effthisnoise says:

Fuck you swisher seriously garbage, and plays in the field that gave up huge runs. He needs to be gone the day after the post season is over

  185. Anthony says:

    Summary of this postseason:
    Granderson = garbage
    Swisher = garbage
    Cano = garbage
    A-Rod = garbage.

After seeing what happened to Jeter, I can’t give a flying crap about this team. Can’t move a lead off runner. Can’t play defense. Can’t hit. Whatever. We didn’t let the Orioles beat us, that’s good enough for me.

  186. JJ says:

I’m OK with Swisher starting Game 2 if the lineup card reads ‘Useless’ instead of ‘Swisher’.

  187. Rahul says:

FUCK THE FUCKING YANKEES FOR THE MOST FUCKING DISAPPOINTING PERFORMANCE EVER. Phelps can suck on Girardi’s dick, if he isn’t already, fucker

    • bobtaco says:

don’t blame Phelps, he was put in a losing situation.

      • DT says:

No he put himself in the situation by not throwing strikes. Swisher’s barrel roll was just the icing on the cake.

      • WhittakerWalt says:

He gave up a walk and three hits. Who do you blame?

        • bobtaco says:

Girardi for not starting with DRob to start the inning.

          • WhittakerWalt says:

Everyone’s always begging for Phelps to be in there. Well, this is two overtime losses in a row on his ledger.

            • Havok9120 says:

This. 3/4s of the site wanted him to start Game 2. The game threads are always clamoring for him to come in in relief. Now its Girardi’s fault when he’s put in to start an inning and blows the game?

          • Havok9120 says:

            Its still Phelps’ fault.

I’m sorry, but he was put in the game with no runners on. Sure, we can argue he shouldn’t have been in there. But if we can’t trust him to come in a clean inning and not walk the bases loaded, why are we expecting him to ever pitch effectively? It wasn’t even that he let Cabrera/Fielder do their thing, that’s understandable. But the damage didn’t end with them.

  188. True blue says:

Swishers shtick is tired.. I can’t wait for him to get overpaid elsewhere

  189. True blue says:

Swishers shtick is tired.. I can’t wait for him to get overpaid elsewhere

  190. Mick taylor says:

Could Dickerson have been worse than the choke king Gardner has to play tomorrowOr we will lose again did you see that strike out by swishalicious

  191. Yankees really fucking earned that loss.

Sorry, Raul, this home run ended up meaning jack shit. Why? Because NICK SWISHER is the worst ballplayer I have ever had the misfortune of watching in the month of October.

  192. DT says:

Bench Arod so loser like Swisher, Cano and Chavez can keep playing. Oh yea Joba with a sore elbow is far better than phelps.

  193. Matt says:

This is probably the beginning of the end of the season.

When you have that kind of 9th inning rally, and lose the game at home, and waste all of those chances, you are in big time trouble.

The bullpen is burnt out. Jeter is probably injured and not going to play for at least a few more days.

Anyone who thinks they are in good shape right now is just delusional. They might not make it past the 3 games in Detroit unless they show up, and NOW.

  194. RetroRob says:

Let’s have a do-over and start this game again.

  195. WhittakerWalt says:

I love Swisher, but he has to go. He hits like an NL pitcher in the postseason.

  196. stuart a says:

    the yanks will get swept.

in 10 minutes in the corner of the locker room in the fetal position will be; cano, aroid, swisher, and grandy… 4 total losers.

swisher might be approaching arod is being a total loser. actually I am wrong swisher is the biggest loser on the team. his postseason stats are really hard to do, even if you try to get out to be as inept as him is hard to do.

this is even a worse loss if they just would have lost in 9…

toast, they are done., this team of softies will never comeback in this series..

the yare counting on a 38 yr old ss who just left the series, a 38 year old left fielder and a 40 year old dh to carry a team, impossible to do……..

they are toast…detroit is tougher and there top players are way way better. young a rascist hack has killed them 2 years in a row..

    arod bullshit….

  197. Nice Scheister says:

Swisher is useless at this point, beyond an occasional walk, when it matters (NOW!!!) he’s terrible . I’m done with him, that route was awful and it indirectly led to Jeter being hurt.

    • stuart a says:

swisher should have caught that ball but he wet his pants for a change.

this team is old…..they are what they are. a bully team…as posted they have hit 2 guys in 6 games. valverdee and johnson and mainly from ibanez….. this is no longer a 16 inning trend this is out and out gag job…..

  198. dkidd says:

    baseball hurts sometimes

stinks to waste such a great comeback

  199. Chilango says:

Jeter’s probably gone for the duration. So Joe should just take a twirl on the binder and bench KRoid-less, Kranderson and Nick-I suck in right too- Swisher. Put Chavez, Gardner in there for Alex and Curtis, and anyone’s grandmother in for Granderson.

  200. Mick taylor says:

Folks remember you could have had Carlos Beltran instead of swisher the choke king I wanna cry

  201. Mark says:

Maybe it was just me but did anyone else notice Jeter grimacing earlier in the game? I can’t remember what inning it was but I think he was fielding a grounder hit by Cabrera and it looked like he was in some discomfort.

  202. stuart a says:

no way jeter plays again this season, he has either a broken leg or broken ankle..

nunez will be on the roster tommorrow..

this team is toast….the only guy with balls on the team just got hurt…..

  203. Bubba says:

Disheartening loss, but issues that have existed all season still plague us, so not totally unexpected. Nice ninth inning rally, but you can’t expect to win games when you load the bases 3 times and come up empty.

  204. David N says:

Wow, Ibanez’s homer seems like a lifetime ago now.

What was Girardi doing letting Phelps face Cabrera and Fielder? I know D-Rob’s pitched a lot, but you have to leave him in for them in a big spot.

I’m not going to get into the usual suspects in the lineup, since their failures aren’t new and have been well-chronicled.

  205. DT says:

ARod> Swisher + Cano right now. It’s that bad.

  206. stuart a says:

couldn’t get over the hump. what david cone said should be the team mooto.

they cannot get over the hump all year. ibanez has saved there ass 3 games in playoffs already..

turn out the lights the party is over…

I am wrong Cano will save them he is a difference maker, he is an elite player just ask his fandom……..

cano is a tease….boras will try to seel some snake oil with his contract and with the crewcut steinbrenner moron you nevver know. he may get a 8 year $20 mill deal..

  207. ProjectNeo says:

fractured ankle for Jete according to Joe

  208. WHIPunk says:

holy shit, Jeter is out for the year, series over, now we have only 1 hitter that is actually hitting in Ichiro in the starting lineup.

  209. Mark says:

Anyone watching the postgame?? Derek fractured his ankle. He’s out for the rest of the year. It’ll be a 3 month recovery.

  210. RkyMtnYank says:

Jeter with the fracture, holy fucking sucking!

  211. WTF says:

I understand Arod is the lighting rod for the media and all angry fans, but the fact that he keeps getting replaced by 0 for the playoffs Chavez is getting ridiculous. I know we’re grasping at straws here, but Arod hit …the ball…kind of hard???…in that first at bat…just to a bad spot. Even still, His upside is better than Chavez’s despite the lefty righty matchups. Somehow there’s no need to replace Swisher, Granderson or Cano. Not that they should. But now that Raul is in the lineup every night and should continue to be, there’s no need to pinch hit for Arod for the sake of pinch hitting him. It serves no purpose at this point. Whether the;y like it or not, Arod will need to hit for this team to get by the Tigers…Especially with Jeter probably out. He’s not gonna break out of it by sitting on the bench

    • stuart a says:

take the Arod poster down. get real he sucks…

sure swisher sucks also and granderson does to but chavez is a legit player… ajax robbed him of a double. arod has not hit the ball like that in 3 weeks or more…

  212. stuart a says:

is that a suprise. they carried a guy off who could not put any weight on his ankle…

    jeters injury is not suprising….

play nunez and some of the 2nd tier guys… fuck swisher.. gardy got a AB tonight, fuck swisher……

  213. Chilango says:

This was a mega loss. No other way to describe it. The usual suspects are the culprits. Blah blah blah. Still would like to know why Girardi pulled DRob though. It’s one of those nagging, why am I here, what’s the meaning of life questions. Fuck you Joe. And especially our grinning chokester Nick Swisher. Take your bloated salary somewhere else.

  214. Matt says:

You can thank the offense for Jeter’s injury.

If they had done their job this postseason, he would not have had to play so many innings in the field on his bad foot and probably would not have been as susceptible to this kind of injury.

When you drag games out like this team does by not hitting, you wear down the rest of your team. The bullpen was wiped out at the end of September and they almost didn’t win the East.

    • stuart a says:

there offense has been the culprit all season and I say that knowing they were 2nd in runs scored in the AL…

      • Chilango says:

2d in runs scored is great, it gets you 95 wins. The frustrating RISPFAIL notwithstanding. The problem is the post season bedshitting. Swish Granderson and ARod are useless and Cano has left for the DR already. They’ve been shit since 2009. Time to retoool…get rid of the tools.

    • Mark says:

Someone here said it earlier. This game would’ve been done in 9 innings if Jim Leyland had pulled Valverde after Teixiera got on base. The next batter was Ibanez and he tied the game. Its obvious that Valverde’s arm is done for the season. I also would’ve taken that 4-0 loss instead of losing the Captain of our team.

  215. stuart a says:

    yanks 3 for 13 with RISP tigers 6 for 15, not a shocker…..

    that is the Yankees……

  216. stuart a says:

jeter is 38, the crutch is going away sooner or later…

let’s hear swisher talk after the game… I want to hear what happened on the play he fucked up…

  217. bnak says:

Congrats Girardi, you just lost all the credit from the Orioles Series!
Extremely dumb move to put Phelps against Cabrera and Prince.

    • Chilango says:

It’s gonna go down in history as one of the most mysterious events of all time. Maybe he just misread the binder?

  218. dalelama says:

Can the proclaimers of Girardi’s brilliance explain why he took out DRob to let a rookie face the heart of the Tiger’s order?

    • stuart a says:

i have no clue and the stute media did not ask him to explain.

the only possible explanation is if drob goes 2 they lost him for tommorrow and the yare using kuroda on 3 days rest but when you come back from 4 to 0 in the 9th to worry about tommorrow is curious to me…

      • Chilango says:

Right. You win TODAY, especially after the way they came back. And since DRob was dealing. And since Fat man and the Drunk can actually hit a little. Girardi really screwed this one up.

  219. stuart a says:

jeter still tried to make a play by tossing the ball to Cano while he was in agony.

can you see cano ever doing that????

jeter is 38, he is not invisible. counting on jeter 38, ichiro 38, and ibanez at 40 and a bench player to carry a team is a impossibility……

michael kay talking about arod hitting a ball on the screws… it was a ground ball to short……

  220. Okie Yankee says:

I feel like I just saw Mantle step in a centerfield sprinkler hole.

  221. Chilango says:

Hope they lose some serious weight in the off season and start thinking about taking some risks with younger talent. We’ve had enough frustrating years of them trying to buy the WS. Time to do it right.

  222. stuart a says:

adios all the older guys end the story…

thsi team offensivly is a softball team.

for sure guys who are gone and $ off the books are; swisher at $14 mill., andruw jones less then $2 mill, stewart he sucks, trade grandy with 1 year left on his deal and ichiro will be gone… that is 3 starters from the roster…..

gardner has to play….the need to get younger more athletic players for sure……….

  223. stuart a says:

they must bite the bullet like the red sox and get younger and cheaper no matter what.

that is why yu try to win now, no 1 knows the future…they could be in the wilderness for years with their lack of offensive young talent and horrible contracts for shitty players…..

arod would get a $4 mill 1 year deal next year if he was not under contract…laugh it is true… tex would get 3 yr $7 mill per.

notice in the 9th tex got lucky with the walk he had the whole left side to get a single/bunt but he refused to do it.. he again drives in no runners. he is a leadoff type hitter with no speed at all…

he needs to drive the ball on occasion..
the utter ineptness of the offense is staggering look at the #’s… cannot make them up…

    • Chilango says:

I agree and give you a lot of credit for having the stones to say it here. You will no doubt be vilified as a Yankee-hating troll for telling the truth about the team. I am a Yankee fan from the lean years of the 60′s and have been through some real downs with the Bombers. But the difference here is that our squad now are paid way too much to suck this bad. Something is wrong. Scouting, not enough attention to sabermetrics, going for the quick fix to satisfy the fans. I don’t know. But the current method of putting a team together clearly is not working. 95 wins is great but not worth the price, if every year they choke in the playoffs.

    • Chad Durbin says:

I strongly disagree. Tex is definitley overpaid but he’s a beast defensively and he’s still pretty productive at the plate. A-Rod’s contract is a joke but he’s still about average in the regular season so he’d get more than 4 mill. How is tex a lead off hitter? Why? B/C he hasn’t hit for much power so far? I blame it’s really Cano, Granderson, Swisher and A-rod. Granderson is a mess and it sucks because he’s pretty much killed all of his trade value. I really think ownership should ditch the “Plan” and remember that they’re not the A’s they’re the Yankees.

      • Chilango says:

I agree that Tex is a great first baseman, but his offensive numbers are in decline, too much so for the long contract he has with the Yankees. Cano is worth keeping even though his lack of hustle and streakiness are maddening. He has the possibility of becoming a superstar. And he’s under 30. The rest of your post makes my argument so it’s OK with me!
