No, it really isn’t. Those stat padding outfielders produced quite a bit while playing decent-good defense despite injuries. Granderson played every game for half the season. We finished 1st in the league and made it to the ALCS and now we’re making fairly huge changes to the complexion of the team.

But the production is a major change. That’s what I meant by complexion. Its the difference between this year’s having one slap hitter in the OF about half the time two having 2 slap hitters in the OF ALL the time. You’re talking virtually no power from the corners, a guy who missed the season and has never been an offensive force in Gardner, and Ichiro, who’s looked done for all but the last few weeks.
Where are we replacing the lost offense? An ARod resurgence? Tex flashback to 2007? The Captain supposed to have an even BETTER year than this one?

Girardi just didn’t want to win this ballgame. His entire pen had the night off last night courtesy of CC and he treated it like it was a Spring Training game. Soriano and DRob for 1 inning only? Lowe left in when it’s 2-0? Awful managing. And that directly led to the Jeter injury. It’s OVER.
I’m eternally positive, but loosing jeter puts a massive hurt on this team. Going to make it very tough on them going forward if he can’t play. Someone will have to step up huge. HUGE.

Phelps is not the problem. Our offense is. Its inexcusable what we`re doing this Postseason. Aside from Jeter, Ichiro and Raul, its insane how bad this offense looks like. And it seems like every year its the same players that fail under pressure, some guys simply cannot handle pressure. Our offense is great for the regular season, where we can hit 5 solo HR`s against bad pitching. Just look how the cardinals won last night, some great ab`s, opposite field line drives and some clutch hits. Thats how you win in the postseason.
You nailed it! Just compare the stats of Detroit’s 3-6 hitters and our 3-6 hitters. That’s your ballgame, folks!
This is how the terrible offense can affect a team.
They have had chance after chance to win it after Ibanez tied it up, and failed over and over again.
Because of that, more relievers had to pitch in the game. Jeter had to play more innings on his hurt foot, and now he’s hurt a lot worse.
And to top it all off, they are going to lose the game most likely.
Besides Ibanez, this team has pretty much not shown up all postseason offensively.
And they miraculously won a series when they shouldn’t even be here.
I love how when the Yanks came back it got very quiet here, except those who don’t bitch about every single thing, then, they get down and all negative a-holes come back. Almost entertaining actually! ha

Swisher is useless at this point, beyond an occasional walk, when it matters (NOW!!!) he’s terrible . I’m done with him, that route was awful and it indirectly led to Jeter being hurt.

Someone here said it earlier. This game would’ve been done in 9 innings if Jim Leyland had pulled Valverde after Teixiera got on base. The next batter was Ibanez and he tied the game. Its obvious that Valverde’s arm is done for the season. I also would’ve taken that 4-0 loss instead of losing the Captain of our team.

I agree and give you a lot of credit for having the stones to say it here. You will no doubt be vilified as a Yankee-hating troll for telling the truth about the team. I am a Yankee fan from the lean years of the 60′s and have been through some real downs with the Bombers. But the difference here is that our squad now are paid way too much to suck this bad. Something is wrong. Scouting, not enough attention to sabermetrics, going for the quick fix to satisfy the fans. I don’t know. But the current method of putting a team together clearly is not working. 95 wins is great but not worth the price, if every year they choke in the playoffs.
I strongly disagree. Tex is definitley overpaid but he’s a beast defensively and he’s still pretty productive at the plate. A-Rod’s contract is a joke but he’s still about average in the regular season so he’d get more than 4 mill. How is tex a lead off hitter? Why? B/C he hasn’t hit for much power so far? I blame it’s really Cano, Granderson, Swisher and A-rod. Granderson is a mess and it sucks because he’s pretty much killed all of his trade value. I really think ownership should ditch the “Plan” and remember that they’re not the A’s they’re the Yankees.
I agree that Tex is a great first baseman, but his offensive numbers are in decline, too much so for the long contract he has with the Yankees. Cano is worth keeping even though his lack of hustle and streakiness are maddening. He has the possibility of becoming a superstar. And he’s under 30.
