ALCS Game One Thread: Tigers @ Yankees

For the third time in the last seven years, the Yankees and Tigers will meet in a postseason series. The previous two meetings (2006 and 2011) were best-of-five ALDS matchups that ultimately ended the season for New York, but hopefully the switch to the best-of-seven ALCS will reverse that history. Getting eliminated by Detroit at home in Yankee Stadium last year left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth, something the Bombers will have a chance to erase these next few days.
The Tigers got here by defeating the upstart Athletics in five games despite only scoring 17 runs in the series. Six of those came in Game Five, which was headlined by Justin Verlander’s complete game masterpiece. Unfortunately for Detroit, that game also means Verlander will not be available until Game Three of this series. With the first two games in the Bronx and the best pitcher in the world still two games away, jumping out to a fast start in the series doesn’t just seem like a good idea, it’s imperative. There is a rather perverse part of me that’s enjoying managers having to consider using their fifth starter in the playoffs. Feels like more of a test of your entire 25-man roster. Can’t just stash that buy in the bullpen.

this game has lot of nastalgiea…miguel cabreara is the guy who was on the trade market same time as arod and cashman went with arod. now 10 years later, miggy is the best player in the game while arod hits like 50 rbis. we couldve had fielder last year too….we will see if cash ultimately make the right move.

Not a fan of their decisions with the rotation. Hopefully it works out, but it’s a tough time to ask Kuroda to do something he’s never done before. Combine that with Hughes vs Verlander in game 3 and this game is enormously important. Hopefully the oftener decides to show up, because they’ll need it, especially tomorrow when they should hit Sanchez.

The replay they showed right before commercial from centerfield he was out. Literally by about an inch, but he was out.
I thought so too, but TBS doesn’t do replay as well as YES does, apparently.
I’m biased because it’s “our” network, but I really feel YES has the best overall presentation of any network that does baseball.
I guess at least Fister threw a bunch of pitches. Whereas I came to the realization that getting into Baltimore’s bullpen wasn’t always a good thing, Johnson’s meltdowns notwithstanding, I definitely think it’s a great idea to get to Detroit’s ‘pen.

Gardner LF at a point where he doesn’t have to come to bat, but if he does, then he bats. If he can run for a ball in the outfield, a stolen base, or a run he can run out of the box.
Chavez has been better than A-Rod most if not all this year. He also isn’t A-Rod who is a disaster along with the dude who thinks he’s worth more than two-thirds of A-Rod’s current contract. ‘Thing is the Yanks have to stick it out with Cano. They don’t HAVE to with A-Rod – see the ninth inning on Game 3 of the ALDS and last night.
I would really like to listen to Ma’ and Pa’ on 880 (words I rarely ever say) and watch the TV, but the radio is about ten seconds ahead of the TV feed.
