ALCS Game One Thread: Tigers @ Yankees

By

For the third time in the last seven years, the Yankees and Tigers will meet in a postseason series. The previous two meetings (2006 and 2011) were best-of-five ALDS matchups that ultimately ended the season for New York, but hopefully the switch to the best-of-seven ALCS will reverse that history. Getting eliminated by Detroit at home in Yankee Stadium last year left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth, something the Bombers will have a chance to erase these next few days.

The Tigers got here by defeating the upstart Athletics in five games despite only scoring 17 runs in the series. Six of those came in Game Five, which was headlined by Justin Verlander’s complete game masterpiece. Unfortunately for Detroit, that game also means Verlander will not be available until Game Three of this series. With the first two games in the Bronx and the best pitcher in the world still two games away, jumping out to a fast start in the series doesn’t just seem like a good idea, it’s imperative. Here are the lineups…

Detroit Tigers
CF Austin Jackson
2B Omar Infante
3B Miguel Cabrera
1B Prince Fielder
DH Delmon Young
SS Jhonny Peralta
LF Andy Dirks
RF Avisail Garcia
C  Gerald Laird

RHP Doug Fister (10-10, 3.45)

New York Yankees
SS Derek Jeter
LF Ichiro Suzuki
2B Robinson Cano
1B Mark Teixeira
DH Raul Ibanez
3B Alex Rodriguez
RF Nick Swisher
CF Curtis Granderson
Russell Martin

LHP Andy Pettitte (5-4, 2.87)

It’s chilly but an otherwise gorgeous day in New York, so weather won’t be a factor tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 8pm ET and can be seen on TBS. Enjoy.

Ticket Update: If you want to catch any game in this series, either in New York or Detroit, make sure you check out RAB Tickets for some sweet last minute deals.

    Let’s go, baby!

  • Anthony

Lets go Yanks. I have a funny feeling the offense is ready to break out.

  • oldmanalex ready to go reggie jackson

time to get ma drank on.

    • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

I still might go on a beer run tonight. Was at a beer hall this afternoon and had myself a nice hefeweizen, but that was this afternoon.

if AROD breaks thru, i might just get my gf to champagne me tonight

        • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

Word of advice: a $1.99 bottle of Verdi sparkling malt liquor can often pass just fine for champagne. It’s VERY often served at weddings.

          • RetroRob

I can do alot of damage (to myself) on a $1.99 bottle of champagne.

            • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

              http://www.verdispumante.com/

I actually believe in this stuff. jjyank could probably even get it around the corner.

              • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

in 2009 i wasted my dads MOET. i drank half of it and then for some drunken reason, i decided to bottle the wall in sheer euphoria. I’m still paying him back for that bottle…. that verdi does look pretty economical at this point.

              • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

I’ll look into it haha. Sounds like it’s in my price range, at least.

              • RetroRob

They have a handy “where to find it” link. While not quite around the corner, there is one place about 1/4 mile from me. I’ll give it a try next time I’m in a champagne state of mind.

    • Deep Thoughts

      Quickly-

What are the rules to the RAB Drinking Game?

      1) Someone references a “parade”: Take a drink
      2) Despite John Sterling’s admonition, someone tries to predict baseball: Take a drink
      3) Granderson Ks: Take a drink

      • RetroRob

I’m sorry, but that will lead to at least several deaths among RAB posters. No one can drink that much before their autonomic nervous system shuts down.

      • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

You forgot references to binders, posts only consisting of “fuck this offense,” and any time one of us loses our shit with Greg.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

    Let’s do this baby!

    • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

Fired up and ready to go!

  • Robinson Tilapia

My wife: “If Michael Kay practically doesn’t eat anything, why is he so fat?

My wife about 30 seconds later: “I’m offended that you didn’t jump right up and post that on your website.”

LET’S DO THIS. Alex will bust out tonight.

Not a fan of Kuroda on short rest tomorrow, but it is what it is.

  • CountryClub

Cano and his over 1.1 OPS vs right handed pitching needs to enter beast mode.

  • Knoxvillain

Bill Ripken on MLB Network is a fucking idiot. He must be upset at the OriLOLs too.

    • Big “Nostradanus” Member

      wat did he said?

      • Knoxvillain

Tigers have a much better offense.

        • The Real Greg

Their 3-4 is much better than ours, but other than that…

        • Big “Nostradanus” Member

          yean no shit sherlok

  • CS Yankee

Surprised they went with Kuroda on short rest, but it saved Hughes in getting a start.

Hopefully Andy is on target and we get off to a great start with the bats as the pen may have to work OT tomorrow.

    • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

Hughes is starting the very next day. It saves the team from using the fifth starter.

There is a rather perverse part of me that’s enjoying managers having to consider using their fifth starter in the playoffs. Feels like more of a test of your entire 25-man roster. Can’t just stash that buy in the bullpen.

      • vicki

        game 3 is tuesday.

        • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

          Next game. Whatever.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I like the idea of teams having to use their fifth starter as well … but everyone has to do it. Not just the team has finished with the best frickin’ record in the league.

        • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

          True.

  • Big “Nostradanus” Member

if we lost this series its all on cashman…

this game has lot of nastalgiea…miguel cabreara is the guy who was on the trade market same time as arod and cashman went with arod. now 10 years later, miggy is the best player in the game while arod hits like 50 rbis. we couldve had fielder last year too….we will see if cash ultimately make the right move.

    • Hall and Nokes

      What?

      • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

Just let him do his thing. This is performance art.

        Go Big Member!

  • forensic

Not a fan of their decisions with the rotation. Hopefully it works out, but it’s a tough time to ask Kuroda to do something he’s never done before. Combine that with Hughes vs Verlander in game 3 and this game is enormously important. Hopefully the oftener decides to show up, because they’ll need it, especially tomorrow when they should hit Sanchez.

    • The Real Greg

I think if they go down 2-0 to the Tigers, Sabathia’s starting game 3.

      • forensic

How dare you disrespect Joe Girardi by calling him a liar when his father just died…

        • The Real Greg

He didn’t lie. He just didn’t say his emergency option.

        • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

          GREG’S GOING TO HELL.

          • The Real Greg

            See you all there.

Only the fun people to go hell.

  • vicki

grandy loves playing the tigers. big game for him.

  • Karl Krawfid

why the hell did they stop showing the player intros?

Time to avenge the Tigers playoff defeats.

    Lets go Yankees.

  • RetroRob

    John Smoltz still lives?

    Sadness.

    • Hall and Nokes

Smolts doesn’t even need to adopt a team for this. He actually is a Tigers fan!

      • Dan in Athens

Well, another game I’ll be watching with the sound off.

  • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

LMFAO… JOHN SMOLTZ , still hate-ing on the yankees, that fool is hung over the ALDS still. it’s like telling your ex gf, let go bitchhhhhh

    • vicki

lol. you’re the guy who claimed to be in med school?

      • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

lol so i can’t get rowdy and drunk on a saturday night watching my yankees play?

  • CC for President

Let’s go Andy you own the post-season

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Notice how in TBS’ opening highlight montage they showed close-ups and highlights of different players on the Tigers and Yankees but….the only shot of A-Rod was a zoom on his face as he struck out.

No intro montage to a series ever shows “lowlights”. Leave it to TBS.

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Did Smoltz just say that CC was “arguably” the Yankees ace?

    • The Real Greg

Hey man, it was being argued on here all season.

      • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

        And…

      • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

        There’s a major difference between….

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Oh my God! Shove A-Rod down our throat, please. We don’t get it yet.

  • Hall and Nokes

Nice, the crew that fucked up the infield fly.

  • babnik

    John Smoltz = crybaby.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

25 more to go. And some runs, of course.

  • RkyMtnYank

Alex looks pretty pumped tonight, hope that translates to some big hits.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Miggy with a base hit?

Well, at least it wasn’t a HR.

  • The Real Greg

You take that if you’re the Yankees

    • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

      I’d rather get him out.

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

…or any team? Miggy and Fielder come to the plate in the same inning, and you have a single and get everyone else out? Pretty sure every team to ever play the 2012 Tigers says that.

      • The Real Greg

Correct. But especially since Miggy kills the Yankees historically.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

    The Stare gets it done.

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

I hope Andy reminds Smoltz of Game 5 in 1996 tonight.

  • Hummingbird S.

    AP!! let’s do it offense!

  • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

i mean that AROD contract is bad, I’d hate to see the ending of fielder’s contract.. it can’t be good..

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Meh. He’ll be. 35ish an DHing

  • RetroRob

What’s better than a 1-2-3 inning? A hit that allows both Cabrera and Fielder to have their first ABs eliminated with no damage.

  • manny

    a lot of empty seats

  • Big “Nostradanus” Member

wow….”prince” is a fiesty one eh? blond dredlocks? i wonder how his teamates take that….

  • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

that captain morgan commercial is pretty badass.

  • The Real Greg

Wow. A four pitch walk from Fister. That’s extremely rare.

  • Chilango

Fister really pounded the zone on the Capt. eh

  • RkyMtnYank

That tbs pitch tracker is total shit. Even when the Tigers throw balls way out of the strike zone it shows them right on the edge or in the zone.

    • The Real Greg

That’s what I was thinking in the previous series.

      • RkyMtnYank

Me too but I hoped they reset it for this series.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Just got home from comicon. Spent all day getting my nerd on, now time to get my fan on.

What was Ichiro doing bunting after 5(!) straight ball?!

    • The Real Greg

He can bunt for a hit.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

I wish almost anyone was announcing instead of Smoltz.

I say almost anyone because I don’t think I’d want to hear Joe Morgan again or Tim McCarver yet.

And I certainly don’t want to hear Hawk.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

    Nice AB, Tex.

Yea but he hasn’t had any big hits, so no one’s really noticed.

  • RetroRob

Ibanez walks, bases loaded, A-Rod strikes out?

Really, I’m just kidding. I hope.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Well if it happens we know who to blame.

Certainly a near Armageddon at bat here.

      • RetroRob

Well he hit the ball hard and got robbed. That’s a positive. The hit-hard part, not the robbing part.

Still not sure they got the runner at second.

        • RetroRob

Replay. He was out. That’s usually the case on plays at second.

  • Dan in Athens

    Drama

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Of course ARod comes up in a big spot already.

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Fister’s throwing lots of pitches at least.

  • Hummingbird S.

    comon A-Rod.. dont choke

  • BigBlueAL

Of course Arod’s 1st at-bat of the series is with the bases loaded and 2 outs.

  • The Real Greg

The trouble has found him, despite trying to hide him.

  • Joe

Ohh god how is it always arod

  • Cy Pettitte

have to like them working them count against the Tigers. Their pen doesn’t scare me anywhere near as much as the O’s so knocking their starters out is a definite plus.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

fister is all over the place. this could be a bullpen game for detroit, which is good for the yanks.

  • Hall and Nokes

First pitch swing + pop up = me grabbing something sharp

  • anon

Big moments really DO find Arod no matter where he is hitting

  • Matt

A-Rod with a great chance to ingratiate himself to the crowd haha.

Their at bats are a lot better than in the ALDS, but Fister is also the first guy they have faced who isn’t pounding the zone with all of his pitches…

  • DZ

It always comes down to Arod, why is it never Jeter. Ughhh

  • Chilango

Be a good time for ARod to step up. Let’s go!

  • flamingo

Redemption would be nice here, A-Rod.

  • RetroRob

    Damn it.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    And then ARod gets robbed.

    Go figure.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

FUCK. Thought he was safe at first.

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Dammit, Alex. Why swing at the first pitch?

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

you know the saying…you walk someone, the manager comes out, first pitch is fat. that was a good play to get that out (even though i don’t agree with the call). Inches from a 2 fun single.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

    fuck. he looked safe!

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    Bullshit call.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

I take that back, good call…poor luck.

  • Hummingbird S.

FUCK… had to be off A-Rods bat… and Ibanez looked safe.

  • McLovin

A-Rod cant even buy a hit

  • Cy Pettitte

can we get a better replay of that play please?

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

The Infield Fly umpire on the job.

    • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

I take that back, he was right.

  • Karl Krawfid

    A-Rod can’t catch a fucking break jesus

  • BigBlueAL

Peralta might be the only SS with worse range than Jeter but of course he makes that play.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    It was a good call.

  • wow

    robbed by the umps.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Obviously it’s not what we all wanted, but Fister’s pitch count is not off to a good start. If they can keep that trend going, I feel good.

    • Tom Q

Agreed. 2 runs would have been nicer, but 24 pitches is a decent consolation prize.

      • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Yeah, and more so than the ALDS. Detroit’s bullpen isn’t as good as Baltimore’s.

  • DZ

Even when he hits the ball well in clutch spots, he has nothing to show for it.

  • RkyMtnYank

    bad luck :) hehe

  • Matt

This is ridiculous. And TBS had such a bad replay that you couldn’t tell. Certainly looked safe to the naked eye.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

The replay they showed right before commercial from centerfield he was out. Literally by about an inch, but he was out.

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

I thought so too, but TBS doesn’t do replay as well as YES does, apparently.

      • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

I’m biased because it’s “our” network, but I really feel YES has the best overall presentation of any network that does baseball.

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

I guess at least Fister threw a bunch of pitches. Whereas I came to the realization that getting into Baltimore’s bullpen wasn’t always a good thing, Johnson’s meltdowns notwithstanding, I definitely think it’s a great idea to get to Detroit’s ‘pen.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

I guess it’s good Fister threw a bunch of pitches. Typing too fast.

  • Hall and Nokes

    I think he was out.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Maybe next time Ibanez will think about the team first before drawing a walk with A-Rod on deck.

  • Nice Scheister

Why does TBS sound happy when the Yanks don’t come through. Mute with the radio feed coming up.

  • Hans Moleman

What did the replay show? Looked out from the first base line grandstand.

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

he was out. it was close.

    • BigBlueAL

Replay showed he was barely out, good call by the ump unfortunately.

      • Nice Scheister

They owe the Yanks a gift after the strikezone recently.

  • The Real Greg

So ARod hit the ball well? Bad “luck”…..

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

    yeah, he was out…wishful thinking.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Shut up, you guys, he was out, it’s just bad luck. Hope you all get alzheimer’s.

    /Greg’d

  • yo

    Ump got it right. Fuck.

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Damn, he was out. So close.

  • Chilango

    ARod got robbed. fuck.

  • Knoxvillain

25 pitches in the first for Fister. Anyone else have a feeling the Yankees will see no more than 6 pitches next inning?

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

no, cause i’m not a pessimist. I think they continue to work the count.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Nice call, Buster.

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Peralta doing his best Craig Counsell impression.

    • RetroRob

What’s annoying is Peralta is not a good defender. Well, that’s just one thing that’s annoying. The ball not going through was more annoying!

      • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Yea, I got really sick of watching Mark Reynolds turn into Keith Hernandez/Don Mattingly/George Scott/Vic Power/Mark Teixeira/any other really good fielding first baseman in history, so I’d rather watch the Tigers butcher plays like they’re supposed to.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Anybody remember when Dan Plesac chose Jhonny Peralta as his 2009 AL MVP prediction?

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

I try not to listen to anything that Dan Plesac says.

Though I heard his Jim Leyland impression earlier, and it was mildly amusing.

    • Knoxvillain

Ha, no. Gammons picking Bobby Crosby is the best. At least Peralta still has a job.

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

I know he got it right, but that’s another reason why you need replay especially in the playoffs. Be fucking SURE you get it right.

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Of course. I was listening on the radio still when McClouth hit that long foul that they went to replay on. Sterling kept saying that it was foul, but you might as well use the tools you have to be sure. Why this doesn’t extend to every other facet of the game befuddles me.

Pettitte with 23 pitches thru 2. Fister with 24 thru 1.

    • The Real Greg

      That’s always a good sign.

      Point me to the ladder.

      • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

    • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

I think it’s more likely that, wherever you go, somehow there’s always a ladder over you.

      I’ll take Alex’s misfortune anytime.

  • yo

11 pitch inning. At this rate hopefully Andy can go deep and save the pen for tomorrow when we’re really gonna need it

  • Duh, Innings!

Good job by A-Rod swinging at the first pitch after the pitcher just walked the bases loaded PSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!

    A-Choke strikes again.

He should be benched tomorrow for this at-bat alone regardless of what he does after it which I bet will be nothing…or he’ll get a hit with the Yanks up 8-2.

Even better, Chavez should pinch-hit for him later in the game if he has an at-bat or two like the one he just had. We’d definitely have an upgrade defensively at the very least.

    • The Real Greg

      Chavez sucks too, man.

      • Duh, Innings!

        No he doesn’t.

‘Guess you didn’t watch his 2012 as well as A-Rod’s.

Any guesses as do who it really is? I doubt Axisa lets his IP address back in at this point in time.

        • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

I think Mike is forgiving after a period of time. Everyone deserves a second chance, too.

I think the old poster Rose, the big “Ohio isn’t a state conspiracy theorist,” is the only person who’ll never be allowed back.

        • Duh, Innings!

Um, Mike Axisa can ban me again if he wants, I could care less.

Go ahead Mike – ban me again, for the second time, even though I didn’t use any profanity or attack anyone this time. ‘Just speaking the truth about A-Rod’s ridiculous at-bat.

          • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Only a matter of time, I’m sure. Enjoy it while it lasts, bro.

            • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

              Well, let’s not be impolite.

            • Duh, Innings!

How ’bout you stop picking a fight with or baiting me?

              Maybe Mike should ban you.

              • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

When did a pick a fight or bait? Just making a prediction is all.

                • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Go to neutral corners, both of you. Let’s play nice.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

That Pepsi commercial just burned my retinas out.

    For shame, Drew Brees

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Agreed. I just texted my friend who is a Saints fan, telling him I just lost all respect for Brees.

      • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

        You had some?

        • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

As a quarterback, yeah, he’s damn good.

          • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Yea, well I have no respect for anyone in that organization after the bounty shit.

Not that I’ve had much for the Saints in a long time, but still.

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

I have never heard of that band before that commercial. Are they really that big?

      • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

        They’re this generation’s Backstreet Boys/NSYNC.

        • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

That’s how I’d explain it anyway.

        • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

          Boy bands still exist?

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    Andy’s on point so far.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Swisher is just so awful in October.

    • The Real Greg

And its not just with the Yankees.

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

who, besides jeter and ibanez, has actually been good?

      • VT Yankee Fan (I named my son after Andy)

        Teix.

  • Knoxvillain

Swisher rocking the high socks. I nearly shit myself thinking it was Gardner at the plate.

    Also, you suck, Swisher.

  • your mom

Swisher should be benched or hitting 9th.

  • Effthisnoise

Sad how A Rod is the poster child for everyones anger, swisher has been crap for weeks

    • The Real Greg

      Money and personality.

      • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

        What’s wrong with his personality?

        • The Real Greg

          He’s a bit aloof.

          • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

? Since 2009, he’s been a great team player and a great mentor. And he’s a known batting cage/work out rat. Anyone with a problem with his personality is still living in 2005.

      • Effthisnoise

A Rod has handled it like a pro. Yanks have number 27 because of a huge post season by him. Swisher, granderson and cano have all been horrible.

        • The Real Greg

The whole centaur and feeding popcorn thing.

          • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Like I said above, years and years ago. Time to let that shit go.

            • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

But the sports media never will. Especially the NY sports media.

              • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

It doesn’t matter. Alex is an incredibly smart and charitable guy. I don’t like his play, but I’m a huge fan of the guy himself.

Since we’re psychoanalyzing him left and right, and I think I’m the only licensed mental health professional on here, I’ve actually always thought he’s just a dorky socially uncomfortable guy blessed with a lot of talent and money.

                • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

I know that I’d never be comfortable with all the cameras and lights on me.

  • BigBlueAL

If Gardner had gotten healthier a couple of weeks earlier and had been able to get some real at-bats before season ended he would have to be starting right now for Swish.

  • Duh, Innings!

Why is Girardi batting the two biggest postseason bums for the Yanks back to back?

Swing on the first pitch groundout and weak foul popout.

Bench both of them! Chavez 3B, Ibanez RF, Gardner LF and Suzuki to RF later.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

ARod was legitimately robbed. I agree he shouldn’t have swung at the first pitch considering the walks.

Gardner probably can’t be effective at the plate right now. Chavez also hasn’t been good for a while.

      • Duh, Innings!

Then why is Gardner on the ALCS roster?

This isn’t September where all he has to do is pinch-run and play leftfield. He may have to hit.

Gardner LF at a point where he doesn’t have to come to bat, but if he does, then he bats. If he can run for a ball in the outfield, a stolen base, or a run he can run out of the box.

Chavez has been better than A-Rod most if not all this year. He also isn’t A-Rod who is a disaster along with the dude who thinks he’s worth more than two-thirds of A-Rod’s current contract. ‘Thing is the Yanks have to stick it out with Cano. They don’t HAVE to with A-Rod – see the ninth inning on Game 3 of the ALDS and last night.

  • RetroRob

I would really like to listen to Ma’ and Pa’ on 880 (words I rarely ever say) and watch the TV, but the radio is about ten seconds ahead of the TV feed.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Yea, else I’d do that too.

      • TinoBambino24

People gave Ma and Pa a lot of hell. But I’d take em’ every damn day if I had to. I can’t stand that pussy, Smoltz.

        • RetroRob

I can listen to them with the TV. My issues with Sterling with how he doesn’t let the listners always know what’s going on. No problem if I have the TV with the audio.

  • your mom

    Hit a HR Jeter.

  • Tom Q

OK, Granderson struck out, but it was a quality strikeout — used up a lot of pitches; had decent swings in there. Nothing like the crap he was serving up in the Division Series.

  • wow

lol where was that first pitch to Jeter?

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

guys, they game just started. can you wait to start complaining about everyone in the lineup for at least a few inning?

  • The Real Greg

Either gameday is really broken or Fister is getting the worst strike zone of all time.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      Worst strike zone.

  • RetroRob

    Needed these hits last inning!

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Problem is, all these rallies are starting with two outs.

    • The Real Greg

Exactly. Two out rallies that let in runs are rare because the odds are against you.

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

The Yankees really seem to be seeing the ball well. I’ll take that as a good sign.

  • Knoxvillain

Two hits in two innings for the Yankees?

    wat

  • Mick taylor

Why is choke king swisher playing. That at bat was pathetic . If he gets 20 at bats this series maybe a hit. Dickerson should be Playing

  • VT Yankee Fan (I named my son after Andy)

Regardless of what else happens this inning those 2 out hits really worked the pitch count.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

At least we’re clogging the bases again. Only a matter of time before they start scoring, right?

  • Chilango

Swisher post season .162/.281/.296 in 168 PA.

  • Dela G

good god jeter’s swing is so awesome

  • your mom

    Bases loaded again. I’m cringing.

  • Cy Pettitte

there’s the Tigers defense we need. no more of that stuff from the first inning.

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Good thing JJ Hardy wasn’t running.

  • BigBlueAL

Ichiro can still fly down the line.

  • Dela G

    IIIIIIIIIICHIRO!!!

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

    Come on, Robbie. Wake up.

  • Effthisnoise

Just me or is the tbs strike zone off?

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      I don’t like TBS’s zone, I prefer Gameday.

      • Laz

I was thinking the same thing. It said some pitches that looked like a normal ball was in the zone.

    • Nice Scheister

They were trying to compensate for the awfulness of the umps in the previous series.

    • CG

It’s terrible, looks like the collarbone-level defines the top of it…

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Let’s go Bobinson.

  • Nice Scheister

    DO SMOETHING ROBBIE!!! Please?

  • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

this is a robbie moment. this fool better execute.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

big time here! he’s killing this at bat.

  • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

This could be an epic first two innings of leaving runners on base, although I question the call on Ibanez on second in the first. Let’s not make it that, Robbie.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

ugh…Robbie. YOu cannot decide to swing before the pitcht!!

  • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

Nick Swisher keeps on pooping in my kid’s diaper.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Wow Cano. Guessing on a 1-0 pitch? Awful swing.

  • RetroRob

You have got to be kidding me.

  • Cy Pettitte

    what the fuck?

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

ARE YOU FUCKING KDIDING ME GTFO

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Tigers getting all the luck right now.

    Holy fucking shit. Seriously?

  • Matt

    CLEARLY SAFE. WHAT THE FUCK?

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

HE WAS FUCKING SAFE FUCK THAT SHIT

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

how fucking unlucky can you get in back to back fucking innings!!!

  • The Real Greg

    HE WAS safe!

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Thanks for a terrible replay TBS.

    • Laz

Yep, he looked safe to me, but the angles were terrible.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

That was bullshit. He beat it by a full half step.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Fuuuuck. That doesn’t hit Fister, 2 runs might score.

  • Karl Krawfid

You have to be fucking kidding me

  • Effthisnoise

Safe. Thought there was more reviews in the post season?

  • Dela G

    Cano was out????

  • Hummingbird S.

    insanely bad luck

  • Eddard

6 men left on base already. You knew Alex would fail but Robbie needed to beat that out. Ichiro did.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

      He did.

    • Karl Krawfid

      He did.

    • DC

Try watching the same game as everyone else, Eddard.

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Looks like some of the #OriolesMagic has lingered.

Robbie better watch the helmet throwing. I know umps aren’t apt to throw guys out of playoff games, but…don’t do that.

  • RetroRob

This game should be 5-0 Yankees.

  • wow

    un-friggin-believable.

    this is just foolish.

  • Nice Scheister

Wow. Really? Looked safe in real time and on replay.

  • DZ

Is this a joke. the baseball gods are fucking with us on purpose now

  • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

damn robbie your slow. ichi would of had a triple.

  • Joe

    Safe.fuck u shity empire

  • your mom

WTF????????????????????? Just our luck. These cats have 9 lives I guess. That’s 2 used up this series.

  • BigBlueAL

Its gonna be one of those games…..

  • TinoBambino24

SAFE! WHAT THE FUCK! THIS IS WHY WE NEED INSTANT REPLAY, BECAUSE OF FAT FUCKS LIKE HIM THAT SCREW UP THE GAME!

  • anon

    HORRIBLE CALL

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

    I want mother fucking replay.

  • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in Alex Rodriguez)

You’ve got to be shitting me. That’s two probable infield singles that Peralta and the Tigers have gotten the benefit of the doubt on.

Just ordered some mapo tufu, which is some pretty spicy Sichuan shit. Let’s hope my mouth isn’t on fire in a few.

    • RetroRob

Going to go buy a case of that champagne and drink it all after those first two Yankee half innings.

  • Hall and Nokes

    That one looked safe.

  • Bo Knows

Crap-baskets…someone water put vaseline in Peralta’s glove or something, that’s twice in a row he’s made a great play.

  • The Real Greg

This is why you NEVER expect anything in sports. EVER.

  • Knoxvillain

    FUCK YOU!

I hope Peralta takes a fastball off of his eyeball resulting in an ended career.

    • DC

Are you 14 or just immature?

  • Anthony

C’mon!!!!!! 2 loaded bases opportunities already. Fister is not being dominant at all.

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

      they did get robbed.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

It was close enough that Robbie shouldn’t be chucking the helmet about it, though

I love Robbie. Don’t be stupid and give them an easy reason to toss you. Never ever saw him like that.

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Meh. He thought he was safe, and he was safe. He’s frustrated.

  • TinoBambino24

THAT CALL WAS WORSE THAN AIDS!

    • your mom

I’d rather have that call than AIDS. Hands down.

  • xnyles

Bud, i hope you watching you goddamn skeleton.

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

We need replay, instead we get a terrible new playoff format.

    • Effthisnoise

      Truth

  • Duh, Innings!

I could care less that Ibanez might’ve been or was definitely safe in the first inning and that Cano’s smash off Fister still resulted in an inning-ending groundout, the bottom line is this team has left the bases loaded TWICE IN BACK TO BACK INNINGS and have produced ZERO RUNS.

I bet Cano wasn’t even running hard out of the box. ‘Probably thought he didn’t have to since it hit off Fister. How was he out at first otherwise?

    • BigBlueAL

Because he hit an absolute rocket that deflected off the pitcher to the ss on one bounce.

    • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

      He was safe.

      • Duh, Innings!

A Yankee baserunner was safe again?

        Try Cano wasn’t running hard.

        • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Regardless of how he was running, he was safe. Did you see the replay?

  • your mom

    FUCKING SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Robbie was clearly safe. What a load of bullshit.

  • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

GOD DAMN IT HE WAS SAFE! At least acknowledge that, TBS.

    • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Ron Darling did, at the very least.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

      Darling kinda did.

      • RetroRob

He said tie goes to the runner, but it wasn’t a tie.

      • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Unless I missed something, they said “bang-bang, but tie goes to the runner.”

That’s okay I guess, but it wasn’t a tie. He was safe by half a step. I didn’t hear them say that.

        Sorry, I’m just pissed.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

    fuck the fucking umps…such bullshite.

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

at least tied….fuck that. he was clearly there before the throw.

  • anon

Showed the replay. CLEARLY SAFE by a half step

  • Joe

Wtf bang bang clearly safe Ron u mets ball washer

  • Athenian

Something has to give for the Yanks. Fucking bullshit.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

You know if that was against the Tigers we would be on replay number 85849210 at this point.

    • RetroRob

Glad I’m not the only one who had that thought. A single replay? No one does single replays on a close call in this day and age. That is, unless they don’t want to show he was really safe.

  • Nice Scheister

“After about 10 looks, he got the call wrong.” You blind dumb fuck TBS broadcaster. IT TOOK THE REST OF THE WORLD ONCE, asshole!

  • wow

How’s that human element working out for ya?

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

I hope Robbie mentions that call to Selig when he awards him the 2012 World Series MVP trophy.

  • Cy Pettitte

does the usher in the RF grandstands think he was out?

    • wow

      lol

  • RetroRob

I want to see multiple replays at every angle so I can be angrier. Where’s YES-Mo?! Oh, yeah.

  • Mick taylor

Seligs umpires are doing what they did last year giving the game to Detroit cano was safe

  • The Real Greg

This is why I never think the Yankees are never going to win the WS. Because it is a FUCKING CRAPSHOOT.

You need a lot of luck to win. And the Yankees don’t have it so far in this game

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Top 10 dumbest things you’ve ever said.

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

I don’t think you’ve been reading a lot of what Greg has written if you think that.

    • DC

      Idiot.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

It was a bad call, but there were a few things Cano could’ve done differently there

    • Matt

Yeah, because what a terrible job Cano did getting a cookie on 2-1 with the bases loaded and lining it straight back through the middle. What a terrible job he did busting it down the line and BEATING the throw.

The umpires fucked up. Nothing you can do when they miss an obvious call.

  • Chilango

It all evens out. He says as he does another shot….

  • Dela G

    i hate the umps

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Could Gerald Laird be fatter than CC Sabathia?

  • nick in sd

    Encouraging abs from cano

  • Cy Pettitte

Laird isn’t leading off the third, wtf is EJ saying?

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Laird should have been called out on strikes already.

  • Nice Scheister

I’m unreasonably angry right now. So flipping pissed!!!

  • your mom

Can’t stand Laird. He sucks but yet manages to get hits against out southpaws all the time.

  • Anthony

I’d love for the replay on that, I honestly thought he was out, but you guys seem very convinced. Of course, TBS probably won’t play it if it benefits us…

    • The Real Greg

He was safe. Replay showed it and Darling said he was safe on the replay.

      • Anthony

Guess I missed him saying that. Bad break. Sigh.

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

TBS showed a replay after the commercial break. He was safe. Didn’t even need to freeze it, he was safe, safe, fucking safe.

  • Monterowasdinero

Did Girardi come out to argue?

    • The Real Greg

What difference would it have made?

  • Eddard

Andy is pitching is heart out and these guys couldn’t scratch across one run? 6 men left on base and now Fister might settle down. Once he gets going it’s tough to break his rhythm.

    • Matt

A-Rod and Cano both had 2 run singles taken away from them, and Cano’s was a hit and he was robbed by a terrible call.

Hard to do much when you play your heart out, only for the umpires to steal it from you.

  • Cy Pettitte

Drew Smyly is warming up in the pen, wonder if Fister hurt his foot

    • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

I never wish injuries on players, but in this case, I kind of hope it’s a minor injury that pushes him from the game. Yankees got screwed on that call, I wanna see some damn karma.

      • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

        Except Smyly is a lefty.

      • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

I’d rather keep facing Fister after those first 2 innings.

        • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

They’d still be burning the bullpen. I’m just in a vengeful mood tonight.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

The SMOOTHEST turn I have ever seen.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

they will get to fister, or just get him out of the game and tattoo the bullpen.

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Someone called Selig a skeleton, I saw.

Poll question: Who’s been the more ineffectual leader: Bud Selig or Skeletor?

    • BigBlueAL

      Hordak

      • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Naturally the easy answer eluded me.

        • BigBlueAL

Well in fairness Hordak did part of Etheria where as Skeletor didnt really control any parts of Eternia. Plus Hordak was more badass than Skeletor. So I take it back Skeletor is more ineffectual than Hordak.

I feel like such a dork right now for actually thinking about this lol

          • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

You know why you thought that? Because Hordak got beaten by the woman. Sure, she was She-Ra, but she was still a woman.

            • BigBlueAL

Great point. Plus she had wack friends helping her compared to He-Man who at least had some cool friends.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Funny to think that I would argue that Selig is better than Stern, Goodell, and Bettman.

      • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Well dying in your sleep is better than being burned to death, drowning, or choked. It’s still dying.

      • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Well Bettman is the worst by about 12 parsecs.

But I think they all suck. Selig’s aloof and clueless, Goddell is a dictator and Stern, while probably the best of them, still likes to use that “Have you stopped beating your wife?” question when someone asks him what he thinks is a loaded question.

  • BigBlueAL

I will say this Tigers lineup freaking sucks outside of Miggy/Prince and I guess AJax. Although vs RHP Avilla is a much better hitting catcher than Laird.

    • Anthony

It does seem very top heavy.

  • Nice Scheister

I want to curb stomp an ump right now. I’m gonna go take a breather.

  • Knoxvillain

    Ron Darling
    Al Leiter
    John Kruk

I wish that was the booth for all Yankee playoff games.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

      Who’s doing PBP?

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Is this for comedic purposes…? Darling and Kruk are awful.

    • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Singleton, Leiter and Cone would be my ideal booth.

      • Knoxvillain

I would replace O’Neill with Cone, but I wasn’t gonna count the Yankees announcers. Kinda cheating.

        • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

          Isn’t Leiter a Yankee announcer?

          • Knoxvillain

            Is he still?

            • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

Yeah, just not as much as in years past.

    • Cy Pettitte

just for this series, I’d like to see Hawk Harrelson, because I think it’d be hilarious to call a game without the White Sox but with the Tigers.

    Mark Teixeira: “Fuck yo shift.”

  • Hall and Nokes

    Yeah eff you Maddon!

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

    fallacy of the predetermined outcome….

  • Knoxvillain

Through the shift? Nice. I feel like it should be 6-0 Yankees right now.

  • Dela G

    Through the shift!

  • Effthisnoise

Fister gets hit off the wrist, prob stays in for 8 innings, if it was a yankee, would have been out for 2 seasons

  • CC for President

Shift this bitches… You go Tex…

  • Tom Q

How are they going to tell if the injury “affects his pitching”? It’s not like he’s been mowing them down.

  • TinoBambino24

    Rodriguez is due right here.

  • RetroRob

Prince Fielder actually believes Teixeira is fast because Prince is so slow.

  • Nice Scheister

The Yanks hitting timing is off. They K when they need a fly, pop up when they need a grounder…the other night speaks to me…first a K then the fly that would have won game four, if the order of events was swapped. Just one example but damn. C’mon Yanks, kick some ass! Breather is starting now…

        now*

  • Matt

Selig probably thinks this stuff “evens out.”

How many times have the Yankees been directly screwed out of a run by missed calls at first base this season?

    This is a joke.

  • Eddard

So glad they put Alex in the 6 hole tonight. Four men left on base already.

  • yo

    Oh Alex… oh my

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

The only way that pitch could have been more hittable is if they put it on a tee.

  • Effthisnoise

Damit A Rod, i want to believe but fiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

  • Hummingbird S.

fact of the matter is, A-Rod should not start against a RH pitcher for the rest of this postseason.

    • Joe

fact of the matter is, A-Rod should not start against a RH pitcher for the rest of his career.

      *fixed

      • jjyank (The Stare Is Dandy)

Let’s wait and see how he responds next year without questions of a lingering hand injury before we jump to that conclusion.

        • DC

You can’t use logic with Joe.

  • Dela G

    god damn it

  • wow

that’s just what we needed. geez, at least make him work.

  • Joe

2 outs are better than one.

  • your mom

Is there anyway to bat Swish, Arod and Grandy 9th?

  • BigBlueAL

When was the last time Arod hit the ball in the air with some authority?? The near game-winner in extra innings vs Boston??

  • Bret “The Hitman” Gardner

A-Rod GIDP, what a fucking surprise.

  • Hall and Nokes

Alex is like a cartoon character at this point. I expect him to pull out an Acme bat his next time up.

  • mike

Hey Arod, go back to striking out, less damage done

  • mike

Hey Arod, go back to striking out, less damage done

  • Matt

Fister has NOTHING tonight. But the Yankees have been robbed left and right by lucky defense and terrible umpiring. If Detroit wins this game by 1 run, it will be one of the most disgraceful umpiring shows in a year filled with some of the worst of our lifetimes.

  • TinoBambino24

Can the stadium be any louder? (sarcasm)

  • yo

At least is defense is still passable

  • Tom Q

Geez, for a second I thought they were going to call Infante safe, and I’d have thrown something.

  • Duh, Innings!

Ok, time for Girardi to not only have Chavez take over 3B and the #6 slot from A-Rod the rest of this game, but to bench A-Rod tomorrow and Tuesday.

No way is he in any way, shape, or form good enough to face Verlander or whoever the Tigers start in Game 3.

If the Yanks go to the World Series, I’d even strongly consider leaving him off the postseason roster altogether or give him a choice: the bench or off the postseason roster, go home, and make a list of where you wanna go this offseason cuz you’re done as a Yankee, enough is enough, and if you’re not done i.e. you can’t be traded, learn 1B and RF cuz you’re gonna be the most expensive backup 1B/3B and third-string RF in MLB history and you can kiss breaking the homerun record goodbye even more…unless you agree to a trade or a buyout. He can definitely kiss his last $18M in homerun milestone bonuses goodbye as no way he gets to 755, 762, and 763 HRs. At this rate he may not even make it to 714 HR (70 HR away.)

I am SICK of the Yanks babying this guy!!!

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

OK, he’s not getting traded, because the Yankees will never eat enough money to foist him off on some other team, and there’s no way the Yankees could buy him out. They’d have to flat out release him in which case they’d still have to pay him the full contract.

I know you harped on this before, but it’s just not realistic.

  • Eddard

They just let Fister get in his rhythm last inning. Now he’s going to go 7 innings and throw up all 0s. Andy will have to do the same if we’re to have a chance to win.

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

You know, if he doesn’t come out right after getting hit by the batted ball, I don’t think they should be allowed to use an injury replacement warmup.

  • Mick taylor

This is what annoys me about girardi why doesn’t he argue that play on cano with the umpire. If it was leiland or showalter they would just to let him know he was wrong and put him on notice not to screw the yanks again

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

Because that would prevent them from screwing the Yankees again?

    • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

      Who is “leiland”

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

in between innings, he probably did.

  • yo

    Jete!

  • Matt

For a team with guys like Jackson and Cabrera, you’d be surprised to see that Detroit was 26-25 against LHP this year. Cabrera hit just 4 of his 44 home runs against LHP this year.

  • Cy Pettitte

“Jeter does this so often” yes, because he has no range, lol.

  • Duh, Innings!

    Bench A-Rod tomorrow and Tuesday!

Start Chavez at 3B and in the #8 slot (Martin #9.)

    • Knoxvillain

      DFA A-Rod
      Call up Pena

A-Rod’s sucked, but Chavez hasn’t done anything.

      • Duh, Innings!

Well, Chavez should be given a chance to do something since A-Rod hasn’t done anything.

6-4 with the bases loaded and GIDP.

I doubt Chavez could do worse than that in the at-bats he should get in place of A-Rod.

  • Chilango

Even the binder says Swish and ARod should be benched

  • Nice Scheister

Who are are the 14 HOFs on the field tonight? Jeter, Ichiro, A-Rod, Miggy, Fielder, Verlander, CC, who else?

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

      Mo and…..

      • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

        Cano, Andy.

      • Nice Scheister

I wasn’t counting Mo, as he’s not active but he’s a no doubter. Who else?

    • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

mariano count? if fielder has a shot.. so does Robbie

      • Nice Scheister

Good point. When the announcer said it, I didn’t see that many. But perhaps.

    • Knoxvillain

      Jeter
      Rivera
      Pettitte
      A-Rod
      Maybe Cano
      Maybe Tex
      Ichiro
      Jones
      CC

      Maybe Verlander
      Cabrera
      Prince

      That’s all I’ve got.

    • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

      Who said that?

Guys with HOF potential: Jeter, ARod, Ichiro, Cano, Teix, CC, Mo, Pettitte, Cabrera, Fielder, Verlander……I can’t think of any other ones who have a chance.

      • Nice Scheister

One announcer. I’m watching ESPN vivo feed, pretty sure it’s still TBS announcers.

  • yo

Wow is the wind that bad?

  • Get Phelps Up (wins needed: 8)

    Andy’s dealin’

  • Matt

Man, the Yankees SP is on fire. CC, Pettitte, Kuroda. If the offense could just get something across for these guys…

  • Effthisnoise

Stub hub had tickets as low as 30 bucks today. So many empty seats. A little of no faith and people realizing they have been screwed on ticket prices since the new stadium opened. Either way, this feels more like a july game than a playoff game

  • RetroRob

    Yankees are leading 4-0, right?

  • Hall and Nokes

Is this a sellout? Doesn’t look that way.

    • RetroRob

It’s a sellout. You’ll never see 100% of the seats filled with internal bars and the open concourse where people can still watch the game without actually sitting.

      • Hall and Nokes

It looks like entire sections are empty in left field though.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Was Swish wearing high socks before?

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Swisher really is just an auto-out at this point.

  • BigBlueAL

Swish gets a 2-0 count and pops it up.

  • Dela G

    swisher = useless

  • oldmanalex currently benchwarming

who cares about fister’s wrist. how about the botched call at 1b

    • Joe F

      Cano was just safe.

  • TinoBambino24

    He’s a goner. Bye, Swish.

  • Matt

2-0, 86 mph fastball right down the middle, and a pop out from Swisher.

What is wrong with these idiots?

  • Chilango

    Swisher the automatic. Fuck you.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    UNIBROWWWW

  • Duh, Innings!

BTW is three hits in a row too much to ask for?

  • Joe F

    This offense…

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Granderson has gone 3-1 in both of his AB’s, and K’d/flew out both times.

  • Knoxvillain

Yankees had their chance to get to Fister in the first and second. It might have cost them the game.

  • Cy Pettitte

so many hittable pitches, they gotta start squaring these up better

  • Joe

But swisher walks and gets hits in regular season isn’t that the Yankees goal?

  • Athenian

    Swisher needs to go.

  • cjc

pop ups on 2 meatballs down the middle the missed oppurtunites are going to fucck us

  • Pat D (I’m not adding to my handle. Aw, crap.)

    Le sigh.

  • JJ

    Where are the Swisher apologists?

  • Effthisnoise

Average chhese with no movement right down the middle, back to back popups. The story line will be Fisters gutty game after being hit in the wrist and not the botched call at first that kept him in the game.

  • Anthony

I guess its kind of nice we don’t have to worry THAT much about scoring runs before facing the bullpen (like in the ALDS). That being said, some runs would be really nice right about now.

  • Matt

The Yankees have been robbed a few times, but come on! This is pathetic! Fister is falling behind on every hitter and throwing them pitches RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE and they still can’t hit him!

  • Hummingbird S.

what a joke of an offense

  • VT Yankee Fan (I named my son after Andy)

So much for the high pitch count.

  • BigBlueAL

All 3 hitters that inning had hitter’s counts and made weak contact against a pitcher who cant throw harder than 90 mph.

    • Hummingbird S.

getting themselves out with HR swings, like they’ve done for the whole postseason.

  • Knoxvillain

That Shaq and Buick commercial was hilarious.

I’m sure Shaq drives a Buick.

  • Bret “The Hitman” Gardner

First 2 innings were very confusing, offense looked like it actually might do something. Last 2 innings have made a lot more sense.

  • wow

it’s a shame that the umpires have affected the game this much. Now, Fister is settling down.

  • Athenian

Can’t believe they have not scored on this mediocre fuck! For the love of God, Yankees please do something other than continue to rack up zeros.

  • Eddard

4 hits and 3 walks in just four innings for Fister and they have 0 runs. And I don’t want to hear this garbage about crooked umps or lucky defense. Crush bad pitching, hustle to first and that doesn’t happen. Fister is throwing 90 mph right down the middle on 2-0 and 3-1 and they’re doing nothing.
