  1. Anthony says:

Did anyone actually expect Ichiro to make it home that inning?

  2. Winter says:

I was under the impression that the Tiger’s infield defense was so bad that we’d be getting infield hits left and right.

  3. The Guns of Navarone says:

Enjoy the World Series Jim Leyland. Light em if you got em.

  4. Hall and Nokes says:

This is like watching the Giants and 49ers try to kick field goals. Or is it the other way around?

  5. Joe F says:

None of our pitchers deserve this. If we had our 2009 offense we’d be destroying teams right now.

  6. The Real Greg says:

A bunch of non contact hitters getting bad luck when they do make contact. A recipe for disaster.

    • The Guns of Navarone says:

You can’t be fucking serious dude. Wake the fuck up and smell the stupid that you’re spitting out. Absolutely NO ONE agrees with you. Do you ever wonder why that is???

    • Matt says:

HELLO? They are hitting dribblers to the pitcher. That is not bad luck.

      • The Real Greg says:

And Ozzie Smith is playing for the Tigers at shortstop. Oh wait, it’s Jhonny Peralta.

        • The Guns of Navarone says:

So every ball hit to him should get by him or result in an error! Great logic! It turns out he’s actually a major league short stop who can make a play from time to time. Maybe the Yankees offense should hit the ball out of the infield with even a minimum amount of authority? Then you might see some good fortune.

          • Havok9120 says:

You have to admit that, for a team that’s been as defensively bad as they were, they (and especially Peralta) have had a lot a very good plays for just 2 games.

  7. It’s unreal how many great SP performances this offense has wasted.

    Truly is.

  8. Karl Krawfid says:

    Great route Grandy.

  9. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

And there’s the mistake by Hiroki. It’s over. These starters pitched their hearts out. Bench em all next game. We have 4 bench spots and next game Cano, Granderson, Swisher and ARod should occupy those spots.

  10. The Real Greg says:

This should be game if Detroit is clutch.

  11. Bartolo's Colon says:

    if only gardner played cf

  12. El Tigre says:

Kuroda has made some himself a filthy amount of money this year. Yen will be flying everywhere in the Tokyo strip clubs.

  13. Havok9120 says:

Uh oh. This Spillover Thread is obviously bad luck.

  14. That double might win the game, with this offense on the Yankees side.

  15. Winter says:

Possibly worn-down Kuroda vs. Cabrera? I don’t like the odds.

  16. Chilango says:

Kuroda’s one mistake. Get out the vaseline

  17. Frank says:

I wish this was the elimination game- just end this already. Absolutely the worse lack of offense I can ever recall seing from a Yankees playoff team.

  18. Andrew says:

How quickly can we pinch-hit Nick Johnson for A-Rod?

  19. Cano’s hitless streak is now the longest in Yankee playoff history.

  20. jjyank (HIROK Them Like a Hurricane) says:

Come on, Hirok. Find a way out of this.

  21. Fuck.

Odds the Tigers don’t score this inning are pretty damn slim.

  22. Big "Nostradanus" Member says:

cmon Ichiro…get on the mound give kuroda pep talk

  23. Karl Krawfid says:

Easy fucking hit. If only our trash hitters would do that.

  24. Matt says:

One mistake by Kuroda, that’s it. And they could very well lose the game as a result.

This offense is a disgrace to the franchise.

  25. The Real Greg says:

That is making contact. Something the Yankees can’t do.

  26. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

Buster Olney is reporting that Hiroki Kuroda, Raul Ibanez and Ichiro Suzuki will leave after today’s game and enter free agency. Rumor is that all 3 are disgusted at the lack of effort from their teammates.

  27. Nice Scheister says:

    Wow.

  28. Hummingbird S. says:

game over if the run scores (it will)

  29. Winter says:

And that’s why he’s the first hitter in 45 years with a Triple Crown.

Kuroda’s been a god but he’s tiring. He needs to come out before he spoils his beautiful work up until this point.

  30. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

If only we had a player like Miggy who could get a hit with RISP. Too bad our best player has hit .060 in the playoffs.

  31. Big "Nostradanus" Member says:

is their really nobody warming up in the bullpen?

  32. Matt says:

You can’t throw him the same pitch over and over again and expect to get him out. After that many splitters, you had him dead if you threw a 2-seamer over the inside corner. Now you can’t do that on 3-2 because he’ll be ready for it. Splitter again and walk him if you have to.

  33. Bartolo's Colon says:

    cmon dp

  34. jjyank (HIROK Them Like a Hurricane) says:

‘Atta boy, Hiroki. Double play. Or more K’s whatever. Just wiggle out of this, please.

  35. Karl Krawfid says:

Sorry but I fear Delmon young more than any Tiger hitter.

  36. flamingo says:

    Big strikeout.

  37. Chilango says:

    induce the DP let’s go

  38. Frank says:

    Yankees killer right here.

  39. CG says:

Hey guys, have faith. If you don’t believe in something then what’s the point?

  40. Nice Scheister says:

DP please! I wish the audio on my radio matched with the game, no matter. I can’t listen to the TV broadcasters anymore. I’d prefer Hawk Harrelson.

  41. Winter says:

WHY WOULD YOU EVEN TRY TO CATCH THAT?

  42. Matt says:

Teixeira needed to let that ball go. Berry would have scored with how difficult that play was.

  43. jjyank (HIROK Them Like a Hurricane) says:

Nice ass crack by the dude in the stands.

  44. El Tigre says:

I hope that fan loses a limb in some horrible way tonight. A leg or an arm. It must happen.

  45. Hummingbird S. says:

    FUCK YOU CANO

  46. Karl Krawfid says:

    FUCKING CANO

  47. And Robbie drops it.

That’s probably the gsme with this no-show offense.

  48. Bartolo's Colon says:

    cano sucks every which way

  49. Nice Scheister says:

What was that?!?! Damn you Cano!

  50. The Real Greg says:

    Cano chokes AGAIN.

  51. The Guns of Navarone says:

Officially fuck this team. I’m done.

  52. Chilango says:

oh well the bed has been shat

  53. Cy Pettitte says:

fuck this team. they are fucking Kuroda in the ass.

  54. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

LOL! Pathetic. Hiroki has done nothing wrong. Hitting .061 and now can’t even field. Don’t give Cano one penny more, please.

  55. Matt says:

ROUTINE DOUBLE PLAY BALL. Disgraceful. That could be the season.

  56. Cuso says:

Pull your fucking pants up, asshole

  57. Hummingbird S. says:

that’s exactly what you expect from your superstar.. what a pathetic fucking player

  58. Nice Scheister says:

Shits the bed and wets himself. Lazy fuck!

  59. The Real Greg says:

It’s official. Cano is the goat of this postseason.

  60. miky says:

    butterfingers!!

  61. Barrel Roll says:

    Robbie CanoT!

  62. RetroRob says:

He had a day to make that throw on Young.

I think Nix’s throw slightly handcuffed him, but still was quite doable.

  63. Matt says:

Young would have definitely been out by at least half a step on that play if he got the throw off. The replay showed it pretty definitively. It’s amazing how badly this team is choking in all facets of the game except starting pitching.

  64. Hummingbird S. says:

it’s seriously time to give guys like Chavez and Nunez and Gardner a chance… those chokers aren’t getting the job done, period.

  65. Chilango says:

You have to PH for the stooges now Joe.

  66. Karl Krawfid says:

Don’t ever want to hear Cano is better than Pedroia.

    Selfish ass Cano.

  67. DT says:

    Bench Cano please.

  68. El Tigre says:

When the Yankees give Cano their new offer the folded up piece of paper should just say “GFY” That’s it. It would make George smile.

  69. Frank says:

Cano just put a nice pretty bow on his unbelieveably horrible post season.

  70. fire joe girardi says:

Why wasn’t Logan up in the pen already? Why isn’t D-Rob also up in the pen?

Hiroki has been great, but he is on short rest, for the first time ever. 70-80 pitches is an obvious danger zone for someone on short rest. (The color guy for the broadcast I’m listening to – not sure what it is, but not TBS – said exactly that going into the 7th inning, and sure enough Hiroki gave up a double and a single.) The pen was barely used two days ago. It also wasn’t used very strenuously last night, because Girardi is a fucking idiot and only used D-Rob and Soriano for one inning each. So those guys are both fresh. They’re ready. They can go for more than one inning. They ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO NOT LOSE THIS GAME. It would have made a lot of sense to bring in a reliever as soon as that double happened.

But Joe is going to wait until there’s two runs to bring in a reliever. Then he’ll bring in Lowe, because it’s “not a save situation” and Joe is a fucking moron.

Oh look, a run scored. Shocked.

This offense is terrible and execrable but Girardi’s horrendous bullpen management yesterday deserves attention too.

  71. Bartolo's Colon says:

im sure we will tie it in the 9th only to lose in extra innings

  72. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

I just don’t think they care, outside of Raul, Ichiro, Teixera and the pitching staff. The others just don’t give a fuck. Robbie Cano and Nick Swisher just want to get paid. I wouldn’t give another penny to either of them or Granderson. Go with younger, cheaper options who want to be a Yankee.

    • SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Of course they care. That’s an asinine thing to say. They might even care too much. They’re pressing in their at-bats, and not because they don’t care.

  73. stuart a says:

that is a double play but the great and clutch Cano did another gag job.

let’s bet who will hit the ball to the outfield first; cano, arod, grandy, or swisher?? tough call. so much talent….

    wow…ineptness off the fuckin scale.

  74. Nice Scheister says:

Doesn’t run out of the box, can’t make a play when it matters most that he’s made all year. Can’t hit the ball out of the infield if his life depended on it. Clutch, he is not. No parade. No raise. Get the F outta NY you lazy twit.

  75. The Real Greg says:

I just want to make this clear. If we clear the board and start rebuilding again, we are not going to be competitive for a few years. We are going to have some losing seasons.

Think about that before sticking to it. I would do it too.

  76. JlemYanksFan says:

Anyone remember the kind of heat torre took for benching Tino and boggs for fielder and Hayes. He realized they werent getting it done, he made his move and it won them game 3. Torre was loyal, but Girardi is taking it to the extreme

    • Louedwards says:

If grown paid players gets angry at the manager benching them for inability then honestly i dont want those players. Geez louise, the players might get the team to the playoffs but at that point all bets are off. Yankees are not gauged by getting to the playoffs; theyre measured by what they do in the playoffs. Grow up and dont pout. If you played better, you’d be in the game. Thats the way it should be

  77. Tom says:

Brutal. Kuroda pitches his guts out on 3 days rest, and the Yankees can’t turn a fairly routine DP ball to escape a jam.

At least as it is only a 1 run deficit, Girardi might actually use Robertson in the 8th and not turn to Lowe again. If it’s 2 runs, he’s not allowed to use Robertson.

  78. TJF says:

I bet the quitters on here are howling today…..

  79. Louedwards says:

Hmm. I wonder if long gets the boot

    • The Real Greg says:

He’s probably the sacrificial lamb for this debacle of a performance.

    • TomH says:

He should, but at least keep him away from ARod.

    • Havok9120 says:

I’m really starting to hope so. I mean, I’m not a member of the “guys should change their approach with RISP, etc” club, but these guys really are all swinging for the fences at nearly every pitch, which isn’t something most of them have done throughout the season.

    • Pasqua says:

This team is so ass backwards at this point that I half-expect them to fire Rothschild by accident.

  80. Joe says:

If they ever make another saw movie they can use this teams performance as a torture device.

  81. Dale Mohorcic says:

A-rod’s gonna get an extra base hit

  82. miky says:

Hmmm I wonder what AROD will do?

  83. RetroRob says:

Cano now officially has the longest hitless streak of any player in the history of MLB in postseason play. Some hundred-plus years and counting, and for his career is a .220 hitter in the postseason.

    It’s A-Rod’s fault.

  84. Mauro says:

I told you 4 months ago about granderson and you all Came back at me.

  85. TJF says:

Lets go Billy Beane Moneyball style next year, seems to work pretty good for them, and way cheaper. Could get a dog and a beer for less than $50 at the park I bet.

  86. Matt says:

For everyone who says that strikeouts aren’t really so bad, take a look at what happened in the top half of this inning.

If Young strikes out, Detroit probably doesn’t score. When you put the ball in play, guys have to make those plays under pressure and you can force mistakes.

You can usually only generate “good luck” by putting the ball in play.

    • The Real Greg says:

And the few times the Yankees have done that in this series, good plays have been made on them by a crappy infield defense.

  87. Chilango says:

Michael Kay: Alex hit it om the screws

  88. VT Yankee Fan says:

Sterling is hilarious! Acting like a Little League dad congratulating ARod for actually putting a ball in play.

  89. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Even when he hits the ball well Alex can’t catch a break.

  90. oldmanalex defacto team captain says:

    GRANDY MAN CAN…!

  91. Nice Scheister says:

Alight laugh it up A-Rod. Your season is almost over. Hank, Hal, whoever agreed to that ridiculous contract should be murdered on public TV with the same dude who did the first presidential debate narrating it.

  92. Bartolo's Colon says:

i would get excited if anyone but swisher was up.

  93. TJF says:

I hope swisher goes deep so that everyone can gripe about how he never hits

  94. miky says:

    Ok grin boy, do something!!

  95. Nice Scheister says:

I hope Swish gets on so they pinch run Gardner.

  96. Dale Mohorcic says:

Swisher is gonna get an xbh

  97. Hummingbird S. says:

look at swisher, take a pitch down the middle, swing at a pitch out of the zone

  98. Karl Krawfid says:

    Matt Weiters is not catching.

    Idiot.

  99. TJF says:

WOW with Verlander going game 3……..

  100. Matt says:

Does anyone think Swisher will get a fastball over the plate here?

Opponents are 23 for 27 in the regular season off of Sanchez at stealing bases. With the breaking balls that are coming, Granderson can’t stay glued to first base.

  101. Matt says:

Does anyone think Swisher will get a fastball over the plate here?

Opponents are 23 for 27 in the regular season off of Sanchez at stealing bases. With the breaking balls that are coming, Granderson can’t stay glued to first base.

  102. Harko DeBoer says:

I am actually envious of the Red Sox right now. They are not going through this misery and have the future enjoyment of actually putting some new players on the team that want to be there and will fight for the team.
This overpaid, lazy, bunch of prima donnas need to find new homes over the winter.

The starting 9 needs to be gutted with the exception of Jeter, Ichiro, and Gardner. I’d MUCH rather get new blood and have no playoffs for a few years and rebuild for the future then to have to endure playoffs like this. These two series do not even border on fun, if any Yankee fan thinks this is fun…….

  103. Unbelievable.

    Swisher fucking blows.

  104. oldmanalex defacto team captain says:

i hope that padlock smacks him in the face

  105. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Nick Swisher has to go. This is simply unacceptable.

  106. humdinger says:

The great Kevin Long has got to go too. How many hitters on this team have improved with him as hitting coach? Jeter was mired in a horrific slump until he got injured last year and went back to his minor league coach.

  107. Bartolo's Colon says:

how the fuck is that douche still in the game, put gardner in

  108. The Real Greg says:

Actually, thinking about it, Detroit was the only team in the final four that has a contact oriented offense. Oakland, New York, and Baltimore all have offenses dependent on the homer.

  109. Hummingbird S. says:

that couldn’t have been anymore down the middle than that..

  110. Mauro says:

If you are making millions of dolars you have to be better that This.

  111. TJF says:

AROD Grandy and Swish all 2Ks each….

  112. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Imagine getting a hit with RISP.

  113. Nice Scheister says:

Please sub Swisher for on D with Gardner, I can’t watch him anymore today. Please!

  114. Mick taylor says:

Sign Josh Hamilton with cano’s moneyi’drather a recovering addict. Swisher the choke king came through again

  115. Dale Mohorcic says:

    Get. A. Hit.

  116. Chilango says:

Anibal Sanchez for fucks sake what a joke

  117. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Sanchez has been the picture of calm? Why not, these guys left their bats back at the hotel.

  118. TJF says:

This is sometimes why I want to pick the two teams with the lowest payroll in both leagues and follow them for a year. When they win it’s unexpected, but watching a team with a zillion payroll still disappoint might be worse.

  119. TJF says:

IF the yanks lose this series, do they go on a spending binge again or rebuild? I’m thinking spending binge.

  120. Mick taylor says:

Could Gardner do worse than swisher the choke king striking out on a pitch right down the middle. How about c dick

  121. Frank says:

    Huge break there.

  122. I Collect Brett Gardner Cards says:

Chavez HAS to start tomorrow, right?

and as far as swish and grandy, gardner will play Right Center. Both of them will sit.

    • Roadgeek Adam says:

Gardner is not starting, C$10 on that.

Something I came up with earlier, will not and I’m not sure how effective it would be:

Stewart DHs and hits 8th, Gardner plays center hits 9th, Ichiro leads off and plays left, Nix hits 2nd and plays SS. Then mix and match where you want after that. Tex 5th and Ibanez 4th, Martin 6th, 7th and 3rd you’re up to deciding.

It may not be effective, but a lot more singles hitters wouldn’t hurt in order.

  123. Matt says:

    Catcher’s interference? Nice job umpire.

  124. Bartolo's Colon says:

    that was predictable

  125. All of that, and the K.

No one on this fucking team can hit. NO ONE.

  126. Hummingbird S. says:

most predictable outcome ever… they struck out with RISP on a changeup.

  127. The Real Greg says:

Yeah, blame the manager when he has a shitty set of tools.

  128. Knoxvillain says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

    Yankees fucking suck.

  129. Duh Innings says:

    Un-fun fact:

The Yankees have driven in ONE run outside of the three driven in by Ibanez and the three driven in by Ichiro, or six driven in by old ex-Seattle Mariners in the last 28 innings plus the innings they didn’t score in Game 4 of the ALDS (Granderson’s solo homerun in Game 5 of the ALDS.)

They’ve driven in ZERO runs outside of the ones driven in by Ibanez, Ichiro, and Granderson during this timespan.

If they lose today, they’ll have to play .800 ball to advance to the World Series, moreover beat the Tigers with Verlander on the mound twice. Next to impossible.

‘Getting shutout by the Tigers #3 and #4 starters – pathetic.

  130. Joe says:

Why is he so happy a little leaguer can do the same thing to this trash line up, this isn’t the 27 Yankees.

  131. Karl Krawfid says:

Waiting on fastballs that are not coming in hitters counts.

This team full of knowledgeable veterans man. I love em.

  132. Matt says:

If the Yankees lose this game, there is nobody who could possibly have any hope left that they win this series.

It’s the story of the entire season. Chance after chance, choking in the biggest moments of the game both on offense and defense, and an inability to do even the smallest of things right.

  133. Hugh says:

Literally no-one in the last five or Cano in the order looks even slightly like they might get a hit.

  134. Couldn’t score a single run against Fister or Sanchez. How the fuck do the ever expect to score against Scherzer and Verlander?

  135. Matt says:

Struggling with RISP is not bad luck when your approach sucks and you swing and miss at this many pitches right down the middle. Every hitter is sitting on the fastball, and the other team knows it and won’t throw them one.

When you are facing crappy pitchers in May, that approach might work, but when the guy has other pitches he can go to, you have to ADJUST. This team never adjusts, and that is why they look so pathetic for this many at bats in a row.

  136. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

We really are going to lose this game 1-0, aren’t we? I need to see a lot of changes this offseason.

  137. Ace says:

Verlander is going to be -500 on Tuesday night, and I still would like that wager.

  138. El Tigre says:

I won’t let this Yankee perforance affect what the Giants are doing.

    #BigBlueRollin

  139. Nice Scheister says:

It’s only one run. As long as Lowe and Logan don’t pitch today, Yanks stand a chance…

  140. Winter says:

    Why is Kuroda still pitching?

  141. JackC says:

I’ve started to — PARTIALLY– get beyond frustration and anger and sort of oddly appreciate the sheer scope of awful ARod, Swisher, Cano and Granderson (to a slightly lesser extent) have been. There’s something almost cooly gothic about it. I can’t recall, ever, a team with four players simultaneously mired in such awful, epic slumps.

    • Chilango says:

Yeah it’s like watching history in the making, first man on the moon stuff. A club that manages to win 95 games and then chokes this bad. Awesome.

  142. Mick taylor says:

    In

  143. WTF says:

Is every hitter on this fucking team a guess hitter? Seriously.

  144. Rahul says:

    This is fucking bullshitttttttttttt

  145. Chilango says:

Kuroda is still in. But Drob got taken out for Phelps yesterday. Joe continues to amaze.

  146. miky says:

Yankee pitchers have been outstanding,,, the only bright spot

  147. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Nunez and Gardner in the lineup tomorrow. It couldn’t be worse than this.
Who am I kidding? Yanks might not score again this series, either way.

    • WTF says:

Totally agree. This offense can’t score unless they’re hitting homeruns. And that ain’t happening outside of Raul in the 9th inning. They need to try something different. Put in some players who hit the ball on the ground and can run. Gives them a new element and really their only chance of doing anything.

I’m sick and tired of watching the strike out/homerun approach (minus the homeruns). It’s excruciating. Get some players out there who can run. No need for Swisher to keep playing. Utterly useless.

      • Barrel Roll says:

But, but, but the RAB people love the HR. They mock us little ball people who like sac flies and actually think RBIs are an important statistic.

  148. WTF says:

This is probably the best the Yankees entire rotation has been in the playoffs in the last 20 years. Go back and look at the numbers, bc I can’t remember a rotation producing like this through 7 straight postseason games. And this offense can’t do dick. Unreal

  149. Frank says:

What a shame. Kuroda pitched his ass off this game. On 3 days rest no less.

  150. Cy Pettitte says:

I can’t believe they are wasting this performance by Kuroda

  151. Bartolo's Colon says:

i would really like to get excited about kuroda’s performance

  152. Kuroda has been unbelievable today.

This offense needs to be waterboarded.

  153. Babnik says:

I just want to thank Kuroda for a gutsy performance. Gutsy as it gets. And he’s been great all year long.

  154. Monterowasnotdinero says:

3 days rest are for ARod, Grandy and Swish.

  155. The Real Greg says:

Question: Who is closing for Detroit now that the fat one is gone.

  156. Dale Mohorcic says:

We have learned that Kuroda can pitch on 3 days rest.

  157. Havok9120 says:

I love that visit. Probably went:

    Girardi: You got this?

    Hiroki: Hai.

  158. Matt says:

It is inexplicable that a team with their top 3 starters throwing this well can put themselves in such a terrible position.

The offense has been monumentally bad. As in, practically as bad in these 7 games as they were in the 2001 World Series, in which they faced Schilling and Johnson in 5 of the 7 games.

Except they aren’t facing Schilling and Johnson. Instead, Chen, Saunders, Sanchez.

  159. CH says:

I would much prefer to have Nunez out there. Nix simply can’t hit!

  160. Miked says:

Hopefully this is over in four

  161. Cy Pettitte says:

oh look we’re getting robbed again by the shitty umps

  162. oldmanalex defacto team captain says:

I want to pimp slap that umpire soo bad. safe or not…

  163. Matt says:

CLEARLY OUT. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

  164. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Holy awful call.

  165. Hummingbird S. says:

    great umpiring as usual

  166. Roadgeek Adam says:

    ….

Can we possibly have it any worse?

  167. miky says:

    OM fucking God

  168. Havok9120 says:

    Oh son of a CRAP.

    Umpiring.

  169. Bartolo's Colon says:

i hate umpires. why are there even umpires?

  170. Karl Krawfid says:

Fucked again by a guy named Jerry.

  171. Pasqua says:

As if we needed to get fucked by the umps…

  172. Winter says:

If that run comes around the score someone near me is going to be in pain and it’s not going to be their fault.

  173. Nice Scheister says:

    Not. Even. Close.

  174. DC says:

This has to be one of the worst years for umpiring in MLB.

  175. RetroRob says:

A tremendous effort and game by Kuroda, as has been the case by all the Yankees starters.

Get the out and runs please.

  176. Frank says:

    Brutal call.

  177. Chilango says:

    WHAT? Out by a mile

  178. Hugh says:

    Grief. That’s not even close.

  179. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

There’s your union umps, folks. Can’t fire em, can only give em raises every year and let them work postseason games with everything on the line.

  180. flamingo says:

I like this crowd. Expressing how I feel.

  181. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

The umpire just got thrown off by the fact he couldn’t believe Swisher would actually do something useful.

  182. Coco says:

That ump is a fucking disgraceful piece of shit

  183. El Tigre says:

Die Bud Selig. Die you crusty old bastard.

  184. WTF says:

    This is a cocksucking team

  185. miky says:

MLB will continue to be bush leagues until they fix the umpire situation with the obvious replay call. WTF are they waiting for. Oh yeah, the human element is part of the game.

  186. Karl Krawfid says:

    Logan? Why?

  187. David N says:

    #HIROK

He deserves so much better than this.

  188. Nice Scheister says:

Why are ups so OLD? Don’t reflexes, eye sight, reaction time and bowl movements go to shit after 50?!

  189. cjc says:

they’re terrible enough to lose on their own without any help by the umpires

  190. Mick taylor says:

Inthe final analysis cashman is to blAme for this mess last year after we could not score runs in the playoffs cashman said repeatedly into the season wehadenough hitting . Wrong. Instead of signing Carlos Beltran who would have really helped the team, he brings back swisher and andruw jones.Swisher now cost us the first game and I said earlier tossing he is in the lineup he will contribute

  191. RetroRob says:

Amazing. Not uncommon for the umpires assume the out and tag when the ball so clearly beats the runner. In this case, the umpire assumes there was no out because he couldn’t see a tag was made or not. Pretty bad.

  192. Nice Scheister says:

Why are ups so OLD? Don’t reflexes, eye sight, reaction time and bowel* movements go to shit after 50?!

  193. oldmanalex defacto team captain says:

maybe cano gets pissed and does something….

  194. oldmanalex defacto team captain says:

maybe cano gets pissed and does something….

  195. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

He had a perfect angle for that call. How the hell could he fuck it up so badly?

  196. Havok9120 says:

Robbie screwed twice in 2 games. Blah.

  197. El Tigre says:

What kind of a contract do you guys think Kuroda has earned himself after this year’s performance? The dude pitched like a stud.

  198. Tom says:

Saving Robertson for extras again Joe?

Or did you not think they would pinch hit a righty?

  199. Babnik says:

I simply don’t understand how he was safe.

  200. Cy Pettitte says:

    I can’t believe this bullshit

  201. David N says:

You just knew that was going to happen.

  202. Hugh says:

    Why Logan?

  203. jjyank (HIROK Them Like a Hurricane) says:

    Fuck you, MLB. Fuck. You.

  204. Hummingbird S. says:

    fuck this team

  205. Karl Krawfid says:

    Why Logan?

    WHY! WHY!

  206. The Real Greg says:

Those little flares never happen to the Yankees

  207. Nice Scheister says:

Of course. That is the game. Fucken BULLSHIT!

  208. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

This is why the NFL was so correct in locking out their refs so that they could get the power to fire the incompetent ones. Too bad MLB is too scared of the Umpire union to even try that.

  209. RetroRob says:

…and now it comes back in the form of a run.

Then again, if the Yankees can’t score a run, the extra one’s not going to matter.

  210. Pasqua says:

How does he not get himself ejected here?!

    • Pasqua says:

At least he did that right. Although I would have stayed out there for as long as humanly possible and made sure the cameras were on me!

  211. The Real Greg says:

And that wraps up the Bad Luck bow.

  212. miky says:

    Detroit 1 Umpires 1

  213. fire joe girardi says:

WHY DID YOU GO TO BOONE LOGAN IN THE EIGHTH JOE, WHY! YOU KNEW THEY WOULD PH A RIGHTY WHO HIT HIM LAST NIGHT. IT IS THE EIGHTH INNING. IT IS THE FUCKING PLAYOFFS. PUT IN DAVID FUCKING ROBERTSON YOU DUMB FUCK.

Yeah, the ump fucked up too. But that was still the absolutely wrong bullpen move.

  214. flamingo says:

We should have been batting by now. Umpires the worst.

  215. McLovin says:

    You gotta be kidding me

  216. Bud Selig says:

I love me some Human Element!

  217. Mick taylor says:

As I said last week selig and his henchmen umpires would screw the yanks and they did. Randy levine needs to make some statement that these games cannot be called like this

  218. Bavarian Yankee says:

these umps are a joke. Thanks again, stealing a run yesterday, stealing an out today. Seems like MLB WANTS the Yanks to lose the ALCS, no way they can blow 2 easy calls. Or they just hate Cano, I don’t know.

    • Laz says:

Yep, I’d really like to see instant replay. It wasn’t even like the ump was on the other side, he had a PERFECT view of the action.

  219. Matt says:

One of the worst calls you will see with 2 outs, leads to a run. What a fucking shock.

You can argue that almost every game the Yankees have lost this postseason has been affected by umpiring. The strike zone in Game 2. The missed call on Cano last night. And now this blooper after the terrible call, that will probably be the difference in the game.

  220. Tom says:

Umps cost them but this is also Joe mismanagement again.

    It’s a 1-0 game in the 8th.

You know Leyland is not going to let his lefty hit against Logan. What the hell are you saving Robertson for with the offday tomorrow?

  221. Bartolo's Colon says:

    how was boone pitvching there?

  222. Good for Joe.

I wouldn’t want to be forced to watch this team anymore, either.

  223. The Real Greg says:

I don’t even question Logan coming in because he induced weak contact.

That “luckily” fell for a hit.

  224. Widget says:

Pointless to get angry at the blown call. It’s not like the offense was going to score today anyways. I hope Long is fired after the sweep.

  225. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

Now the Yanks will score a run and lose 2-1. You just know they will. Ump should be fired. Leyland has outmanged Joe again. Joe should be fired.

  226. Chilango says:

Logan? Not DRob of course. We got the trifecta today of shitty managing shitty umpiring and shitty playing.

  227. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Brain dead bullpen management.

  228. Tom says:

    Joba? What the hell.

It’s a 2-0 game…. where the fuck is Robertson. If he’s not injured this is inasnity.

  229. Just too disappointed right now says:

Im not even surprised by this either

  230. Bartolo's Colon says:

    another great play there

  231. Karl Krawfid says:

    Way to Swish.

  232. Nice Scheister says:

Why is Swish still in the OF?!

  233. Widget says:

The are going to lose because their offensive approach is terrible. Only morons would blame the umps.

  234. Matt says:

Another ball that Swisher should have caught. If he wasn’t trying to be fancy and make a leaping grab, he would have caught that.

  235. Karl Krawfid says:

They are giving him the right side again.

    AMAZING.

  236. stuart a says:

another great call by the umps. so far cost us 1 run maybe more.

swusher should have caught that fould ball.

    he is awful

  237. The Real Greg says:

WHY DONT ALL ASK GIRARDI THESE QUESTIONS YOURSELF?

  238. Chilango says:

Wait! Swish is hurt. Take him out. NOW

  239. Karl Krawfid says:

    Series over.

  240. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Good thing DRob and Soriano will be well rested for the off day.

    Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

  241. Nice Scheister says:

    Yankees – 0, Tigers – 1, Umps – 2

  242. stuart a says:

so the ump call has now cost them 2 runs. but heck why get the call right it would take to much time.

so compare crapo and cabrera!!!don’t laugh.. cano could not carry his socks….

  243. fire joe girardi says:

Why did you put Joba in? DAVID FUCKING ROBERTSON. THIS IS NOT THE REGULAR SEASON. You gave up on the game again, you stupid stupid fuck.

  244. Widget says:

So he goes to Logan than Joba? Yeah let’s blame the umps.

  245. flamingo says:

    Well. Detroit 1, Umpires 2.

  246. Chilango says:

Jobber really steps up hahaha fuck you Girardi you’re a mess.

  247. WTF says:

Another ball swisher should have caught. What a piece of shit. Keep smiling asshole. WORST POSTSEASON PLAYER EVER! If he actually got on base I’m pretty sure he’d trip running the bases

  248. Hugh says:

Thank goodness Robertson will be fresh for the next game.

  249. Matt says:

    WHAT A FUCKING SHOCK.

Umpire blows the call. Swisher misses the ball he should catch. An inning that should have been over costs us the game.

FUCK MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. Umpiring has stolen 3 games now from us this postseason. These are not just innocent missed calls. These are missed calls in the biggest moments of game which are changing the entire complexion of the game.

    • Hugh says:

There’s no conspiracy but you are right.

    • True blue says:

Tell me the last time a MLB team ever won getting shut out? The umps aren’t to blame here.

      • Matt says:

Yes they are. A 1-0 deficit is a very different game than 3-0 or more.

They had 2 more innings to score 1 run, with their bullpen incredibly shaky.

They could very well come back now and lose by 1 or 2 runs. The call changed the ENTIRE COMPLEXION OF THE GAME. What do you not get?

      • Mick taylor says:

You know nothing about baseball. There is a huge difference between a 1-0 game and 3-0 game. With a 3-0 lead Detroit pitchers can relax a little. Conversely the yank hitters will press even more. One swing by ibanez in a 1 run game ties the game . So that call on top of yesterday’s blown call very much caused the yanks to lose.

  250. miky says:

It’s over. Wait till next year!!

  251. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

Ballgame over. Series over. Bad umpiring, bad management, bad offense. You just can’t win with all 3 of those things going against you. They will not beat Verlander in Game 3. Final score 5-0. CC wins Game 4. Final score 1-0. Yanks lose in 5. Final score 4-0.

  252. Karl Krawfid says:

Not to mention Monday is an off day.

  253. Frank says:

Besides a lack of offense, the inability to close out an inning after getting 2 outs has been an ongoing problem for this team all year.

  254. El Tigre says:

    Bright side. Verlander on Tuesday.

    /sarcasm

  255. Peter says:

This offense is a joke. We need some serious work in the offseason. Im tired of great regular seasons and getting out a** kicked in the postseason.

  256. McLovin says:

Verlander pitching tomorrow this cant get even better

  257. Nice Scheister says:

Terrible umpiring, hitting, fielding and managing. This is the last game I watch in this series unless it goes to seven. Which HA! Ain’t gonna happen.

  258. Bartolo's Colon says:

thank you umpires, girardi, and swisher for making the lead go from difficult to impossible

  259. The Real Greg says:

BY the way Girardi has been managing the same way all year. And won 95 games. So it can’t be him, can it?

  260. Just too disappointed right now says:

Sorry to be negative but this game is over

    • Rahul says:

That’s completely realistic. It’s over, and we mind as well kiss the fucking series goodbye because Verlander will fucking own the Yankees in Game 3

  261. So…

0-2, going to Detroit, Verlander in Game 3.

    lol

    Masochist’s heaven.

  262. Frank says:

Yanks staring straight down the barrel of a 4 game sweep.

  263. Tom says:

    Get Lowe up.

Why not completely set fire to a 1-0 game while your 2 best relievers look on.

This beyond laughable at this point – who knows if they come back from 1-0, but this is now 2 games in a row Joe has completely screwed up.

    • The Real Greg says:

And yet he won 95 games and a playoff series by managing that way.

      • Tom says:

In spite of Girardi, not because of Girardi.

Do you seriously think the moves the last 2 games were smart?

        • The Real Greg says:

I don’t have all the facts surrounding them. Why didn’t anybody ask him about the moves?

Plus if the mananger gets no credit for wins, he shouldn’t take blame for losses. A logical algorithm.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

He was asked about the moves. The writers ask about all the idiotic moves. He just gives the same generic nonsense responses.

          • fire joe girardi says:

How is that a logical algorithm, dummy?

A manager does not get credit for wins because he does not do the baseball-playing and pitching and hitting, which is necessary to wins. Raul Ibanez does play in the game. So, he can contribute to the outcome — hit a home run, knock in a run, whatever. By doing so, he actually deserves some credit for the win. The manager doesn’t play, so he doesn’t contribute anything toward the win.

However, the manager can meddle. Very often, this meddling actually is bad — like when he orders a sacrifice bunt that kills a rally, or works a matchup that doesn’t make any sense, or intentionally walks someone, or puts in a bunch of shitty relievers when he has a rested pen pretending it’s the fucking regular season. While these decisions may not be solely responsible for a loss, when there’s enough of them and they’re obviously counter-productive, then the manager does deserve some responsibility for the loss.

Girardi has made many obviously counter-productive decisions today and yesterday, and absolutely deserves responsibility for the loss.

          • Tom says:

You keep saying this stupid “why doesn’t anyone ask him?”

            WHO. CARES.

Robertson pitched last night. He was apparently unavailable in the 8th inning of a 2-0 game, but suddenly available in the 11th inning. Now I don’t have all the facts, and maybe they got a witch doctor out there who healed him up between the 8th and the 11th, but what facts do you need?

Must you defend Girardi at all costs, how can you not see how truly bad these moves are?

            • The Real Greg says:

There is no such thing as a bad move. There are moves that work and moves that don’t work.

              • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

                Wow. Just wow.

So if they left a healthy CC off of the playoff roster so Nova or Garcia could take his place, that wouldn’t be a bad move?

It’s like you are trying to prove your stupidity.

  264. fire joe girardi says:

Now, of course, in the off chance that it goes into extra innings again, he has successfully burned half the pen on one batter each. Inexcusably, inexcusably, amazingly, incomprehendingly, shockingly, infuriatingly, outrageously fucking stupid.

  265. Roadgeek Adam says:

    Rob Drake – HP
Sam Holbrook – 1B (Mr. Infield Fly)
    Jeff Nelson – 2B (…)
    Gary Cederstrom – 3B
    Mike Winters – LF
    Jeff Kellogg (CC) – RF

That’s our umpiring crew. I’ve respected most of Drake’s consistent strike zone, been generous to both pitchers. I know Holbrook is on my list of MUST BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY umpires.

  266. Athenian says:

Don’t blame the umpires. Their calls have not been great but the Yankees have scored 4 run in the last 20 innings. Their mega stars have mailed it in…Arod, Cano, Swisher, Granderson…so the Yankees are getting EXACTLY what they deserve, being embarrassed on national television in the playoffs.

They tell their fans they sign people for the playoffs and then continue to reward players for failing. Not one job, outside playing for the Yankees or working on wall st rewards employees for failure. The Yankees will continue I this fashion by extending Cano to another crippling contract during his declining, pouting years (how can you not run out a ground ball. Such an ass), picking up Granderson cuz, you know he hits HR’s, and continuing to mortgage the future by trading the farm system.

It is sad but unexpected that they are in this position.

    • Laz says:

Umpires cost at least 1 run yesterday, and gave detroit runs today.

    • Nice Scheister AKA M.F.I.K.Umps says:

The game should be 1-0. Period. It’s not, someone made a mistake, there’s zero accountability for screw ups in this multi-billion dollar sport and we’re supposed to deal with it. It’ll be a footnote, IF the yanks score a run there will be a lot of angry people, rightfully so. This team is The Walking Dead, which will help me forget about this game in a couple of hours.

    • Roadgeek Adam says:

This season in the MLB in general has had some shitty umpirical calls. Not just the Yankees. Other calls have just been utter crap.

Chavez of the As, hits Prince Fielder gets hit by accident, gets thrown out.

AJ Pierzynski, gripes about Lance Barrett’s really poor strike zone, thrown out with Robin Ventura.

Zach Greinke, when he was playing with the Brewers, thrown out for throwing the ball down in the 1st inning. Roenicke joins him.

Reynolds throws his glove down in frustration of a reversed call with Jhnonny Peralta.

Just look at some of these ejection videos on MLB.com. The calls on ones that aren’t arguing balls and strikes are just utter garbage.

    • ClayDavis says:

I would argue that the Cano play was a huge one last night. They would have had a lead and the bases would have been loadd. Epic momentum killer.

  267. Nice Scheister AKA M.F.I.K.Umps says:

There aren’t enough base runners to make Raul a factor in this game.

  268. Bavarian Yankee says:

how does an old German saying go? First they didn’t have any luck and then they had bad luck too.

F*ck those umps. Next time they blow a call I’d just let the team walk off the field and forfeit the game. It’s about f*cking time to expand replay in the postseason, they can’t do ridiculous calls like that every f*cking day. And it’s not like it’s just happening here. With some better umpiring the Braves might still be in the playoffs and the Cards might be sitting at home. Some teams really get screwed this year.

  269. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

It is party Girardi’s fault for awful strategy. Last night with a base open he pitched to Delmon Young. Tonight, with a base open Jimmy Leyland walked Raul Ibanez. Fool me once, shame on you fool me twice shame on me. At least one manager figured that out.

Awful bullpen management. Soriano and Robertson only go 1 yesterday in extras? Phelps in before Joba? Tonight it’s 1-0 and Joe is still saving Robertson and Soriano for the off day tomorrow. They had an off day during CC’s start. Just horrific management.

  270. Chilango says:

This was a train wreck waiting to happen. We squeaked out of the O’s series because of twin miracles, but the problems persist. Maybe it’s bad Karma (Greg might like this) for trying to bully and buy the WS every fucking year. Get rid of these losers go home and try it another way.

  271. Rahul says:

Even if the Yankees did come back the fuckers would only tie it and lose in extra innings. I give up. FUCK THESE PIECES OF SHITTTTTTTTTTTT

  272. Bartolo's Colon says:

the difference between the yankees and the tigers is that the tigers take advantage of opportunities, the yankees wilt. this is a sad postseason performance and the fact that the won the alds is only possible because of nearly PERFECT pitching. kuroda should of went 8 here with 0 runs.

  273. fire joe girardi says:

I hope that stupid fucking binder gets wedged in Joe’s stupid fucking gut and tears a big hole in his ass, leaving him unable to manage anymore.

  274. miky says:

Because he’s an old out of shape fuck who couldn’t get on top of the play

  275. TomH says:

I’m watching Gameday. Is Joe really letting Rapada pitch to Young? Boy vs Man?

  276. Frank says:

4 pitchers to get the third out of the inning after Kuroda gets the first 2 outs. Unbelievable.

  277. Kevin G. says:

Seriously? The umps steal a run from us yesterday and hand the Tigers two or more runs today? Really? For a team that already can’t hit a lick?

Fuck umpires. Fuck Bud Selig. Fuck the Offense. Fuck Jeff Nelson. Fuck ARod. Fuck Cano. Fuck Granderson. Fuck Swisher. Fuck everybody besides Jeter, Ichiro, Ibanez and our starters.

  278. Karl Krawfid says:

Not to mention, giving up your top prospects for players other teams don’t want.

Montero and Jackson would be great to have right now.

    • The Real Greg says:

      HINDSIGHT!

      • Barrel Roll says:

Not hindsight, Cashman sucks as a GM.

        • Havok9120 says:

They really were one of the two or three best offenses in the MLB you know. And they assembled a pretty great rotation. And dealt with injuries all year. And won 95 games again. And made it to the ALCS for the 3rd time in 4 years.

I mean, we have no idea how the last couple seasons would have gone with Jackson here instead of Granderson or with Montero in the lineup, but lets not delude ourselves into thinking the team is and has been bad.

    • Bavarian Yankee says:

having Pineda and Granderson would be great too.

  279. bobtaco says:

Have you ever had deja deja deja vu?

  280. miky says:

Detroit Umpires 3 New York Yankees 0

  281. dave says:

cano fucking laughing with cabrera!!! fuckin chump POS

  282. Karl Krawfid says:

I’m positive if the Yankees drafted Mike Trout, he would have been traded.

  283. Tom says:

    Eppley?

At this point Roberston is hurt, no?

  284. gut the yankees says:

Hey guys the Giants are killing it in San Francisco

  285. flamingo says:

Can’t argue with a swinging strike, I guess.

  286. Matt says:

The Yankees have not scored so far, but they very well could have in the next 2 innings.

What that call does is it takes away the chance for the Yankees to run into a mistake and erase the entire rest of the game. Now they have to put together a huge rally to tie it up, and that is probably not going to happen barring a miracle.

1-0 is very different than 3-0, and the hitters will change their approach as well in this new situation. That one call at 2nd base probably took away any chance the Yankees had to win this series.

And don’t even think of blaming the team for not getting the 3rd out. They hit a blooper and a ground ball, not two line drives afterwards. The inning should have already been over.

  287. Karl Krawfid says:

Swish is done as a Yankee folks.

    I’m so happy.

  288. Chilango says:

It seems like all the calls have gone Detroit’s way because the Tigers have actually put runners on base and moved them around. The Yanks haven’t done shit. So they lose 3-0 instead of 1-0. So what

    • Karl Krawfid says:

      Really!

    • Havok9120 says:

We’ll also ignore the close calls that kept runs from scoring yesterday. Because otherwise, it doesn’t fit together so well.

      • Chilango says:

OK, but the teams are just not evenly matched. The Yankees are getting spanked. Anibal Sanchez for Christ sake. C’mon

        • Matt says:

Spanked? You can’t be serious. Every game has been close, and missed calls on the bases have screwed the Yankees out of some huge chances to win these games.

The strike zone has also completely changed as each game has gone along, and is not going both ways. Yankees hitters have been screwed on some shitty calls, and their pitchers have not gotten the same ones.

These two teams are very evenly matched but one team has gotten every call or break imaginable. There is nothing you can fucking do. An asterisk should be put next to this series if Detroit wins it.

        • Havok9120 says:

I understand. I’m really ticked about the sudden offensive ineptitude as well. But these have been game-altering calls. When it evens out, its fine, but the 3 huge ones have all gone the Tigers way.

The offensive is to blame for this, but teams that snap out of these slumps either do it bit by bit or with lucky breaks in calls and bounces. We’re not getting any. Instead we get Peralta playing with a Gold Glove and the umps doing their thing.

  289. Karl Krawfid says:

See how Leyland takes out his shitty defensive players!

  290. miky says:

controversial call??? how about blown fucking call?

  291. Mick taylor says:

I just saw something really despicable when tbs came back after the break, for the pitching change to eppley youcould see cano laughing it up with Miguel Cabrera. Goes to show the fans care more about this gamethan millionaire players like cano.

    • dave says:

yes!! i saw that too, was fuckin disgusting..i commented about it above but didn’t thnk anyone saw it. Ya the casual attitude is wearing fuckin thin with him

  292. Effthisnoise says:

Holynshitnthat ball was 2feet off the plate

  293. Nice Scheister AKA M.F.I.K.Umps says:

Now the strike zone has opened up six inches.

  294. Winter says:

Arguing about a strike, even if it’s a bad strike, does nothing. Cano’s just taking his frustration out on the ump.

  295. Matt says:

Now the home plate umpire too. FUCK MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL.

  296. Karl Krawfid says:

    Why even throw strikes!

  297. flamingo says:

    How was that a strike?

  298. Effthisnoise says:

Dude no one can deal with that strike zone. Umps are giving 0 chance for a comeback

  299. El Tigre says:

Why are people complaining about calls? Complain about Cano.

    • Effthisnoise says:

Hard to hit when your O 2 on balls so far off the plate. Cano has sucked but that was bs

      • Mikhel says:

Canó has been swinging at pitches outside of the home plate. Umpires typically call strikes where the batter likes to swing.

If a player likes low pitches NEAR the strike zone, the umpire usually extends the strike zone.

For Canó there have been mostly outside pitches since he faced Miguel Ángel “El Mariachi” González of the Orioles.

    • Matt says:

Because Cano is supposed to hit fastballs 6 inches off the plate outside? He had no chance in that at bat.

  300. Luisergi says:

Cano just wants this to end, fuck him.

  301. NickVA says:

Does baseball have the worse officials in all of sports?

    • Roadgeek Adam says:

I’d argue worse than the replacement refs.

    • David N says:

Right now, it sure as hell feels like it.

    • Jerome S. says:

I believe that MLB just does a terrible job of mitigating the inevitabilities of human officiating. The umpires simply can’t be counted on to get every call right, why do we put up with it? We have the technology to reverse a lot of blown calls.
But no. Baseball has this culture of archaism, and the need to be old for old’s sake. I get some of that, but we shouldn’t sacrifice the integrity of the game for it. The “human element” is crap.

  302. McLovin says:

Its like everytime they vs the tigers theres always blown calls like in 06 with the foul ball on Bernie

  303. So, going to Comerica Park, where the Yankees have historically struggled, and they need to win at least two of three, and they’re facing Verlander, Scherzer, and Fister.

    Good luck with that.

    • Martien says:

If it keeps on going like this, at least we won’t have to see Detroit celebrating on our field.

    • Chilango says:

Dude don’t even waste time thinking about it. Today was the must win game. The offense didn’t show up then Girardi brought in Logan and Jobber everyone and his uncle…except Rob. Then a blown call at 2d and it over. GO BLUE.

  304. Hugh says:

So, how many well-hit balls by the Yanks tonight?

Tex’s early double. ARod hit one reasonably well in lining out to left. Did I miss any?

    • Mikhel says:

This game is won with runs, not by “well-hit balls”, a team can win with bloopers.

Heck, the 1990′s team used to beat teams with texas-leaguers and bloopers. This team needs those types of players who know how to hit singles instead of always looking for homeruns.

    • Tom says:

Nix hammered a ball in his first AB (fly/lineout to LF, pretty deep)

  305. CH says:

So it is pretty safe to assume that Soriano and Swisher will not be back. But why on earth would they bring back Granderson? Save the money and try to be smart for once. And fire Kevin Long. Multiple people should be fired/replaced for this pitiful performance.

  306. Bartolo's Colon says:

last night i was pissed, depressed when i got home. will not be upset or have trouble going to bed tonight. series on the line against verlander. i actually think being away from yankee stadium will be good for the yanks. the vibe just has not been good and at least they won’t get booed after every ab (just before)

  307. NickVA says:

    Hey, the Jets won today.

  308. Karl Krawfid says:

D-Rob and Soriano get 2 days off.

  309. miky says:

Wow Bart I’d love to be living in that fantasy world of yours

  310. Matt says:

Selig is so full of shit.

It would take nothing to have expanded instant replay RIGHT NOW. Just the fact that TBS can show whether a call was correct or not in about 20 seconds demonstrates this fact.

Why won’t he pilot test it in the postseason like he did with HR calls? Because he doesn’t want instant replay, which would help teams like the Yankees who have been getting screwed left and right.

  311. Karl Krawfid says:

Just put the fucking replay on the big ass TV they have.

    Jesus.

  312. Luisergi says:

All in all, one of the shitiest weekends i can remember in my whole life.

  313. your mom says:

This team blows better luck next year.

  314. McLovin says:

The only hope we got is a grand slam by Rauuuulll

  315. Nice Scheister AKA M.F.I.K.Umps says:

This is 51% the umps and 49% Bullpen Mgmt. if they don’t score a single run, it’s a moot point anyway.

  316. D23 says:

    Guys,

Blame the offense. And most importantly you got to stick behind the team. Yes we got Verlander. But the game got to be played. One game at a time and it ain’t over til its over. Win 2 out of 3 in Detriot is doable but gonna take offense finally waking up, some breaks and some luck. This team will not roll over til its over.

  317. David N says:

    Good: Ibanez up.

    Bad: Nobody on.

  318. toad says:

Girardi’s use of the bullpen has been terrible. Why the hell won’t he use his best relievers in key situations. What kind of strategy is this?

  319. NickVA says:

You heard it here. Arod is going to hit a HR.

  320. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    C’mon Raul.

    3-run HR.

I know you can do it.

  321. oldmanalex defacto team captain says:

the worst part is arods gonna end the game.

  322. Karl Krawfid says:

Go ahead and swing out of your shoes Martin!

  323. Chilango says:

    Attaboy Russ air it out.

  324. Nice Scheister AKA M.F.I.K.Umps says:

Well at least there’s a new season of Walking Dead starting tonight, after watching these walkers go through the motion it’ll be fun to see some with some more life.

  325. Hugh says:

Reckon I just saw Leyland saying “Dig up my mom. She could strike out the last three here.”

  326. Feeble, feeble, feeble.

    This team blows.

  327. Karl Krawfid says:

    Poor A-Rod man.

  328. Karl Krawfid says:

A-Rod use to hit that to right field.

  329. Karl Krawfid says:

Right field. Thank you. THANK YOU.

  330. David N says:

Could have used that hit a while ago, but…okay, I guess we have to take it.

  331. Kevin G. says:

    Holy sh*t

  332. NickVA says:

    Put your rally caps on.

  333. Mick taylor says:

After seeing cano whooping it up withmiguel Cabrera I have lost more than half my love for this team

  334. Nice Scheister AKA M.F.I.K.Umps says:

    A BASEHIT YESYEYSYESYEYSYEYSYE BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Fdjcndsncnfenxnd

  335. Havok9120 says:

And it has to be ARod, just to get some more ire leveled at him.

Meanwhile, attendance was supposedly announced at just over 47K again.

Hahahaha…..ARod with a base hit. That’s pretty funny. BUST A MOVE BOYS.

  336. A-Punk aka Luisergi says:

hahahahahahaha A-Punk is just messing now

  337. Effthisnoise says:

    Lol this zone

  338. A-Punk aka Luisergi says:

I can’t believe he is leaving granderson against the leftie

  339. D23 says:

That s a difference between Detroit and the Yankees in this series, Detroit hitting to driving in a run, Yankees go for the long ball. I would start Brett in game 3 for Swish.

  340. RABers:

Take a good, long look at Yankee Stadium.

There won’t be baseball there again until April.

  341. RetroRob says:

These two home games went as poorly as can be, from lack of hitting, injury to a key player, bad umpire calls, and a combination of indifferent Yankee fans not showing up at the park to booing Yankee fans. In other words, can’t get any worse.

A day off and a reset can’t hurt.

  342. Karl Krawfid says:

But he hit 40 home runs!

  343. Hugh says:

Just wow. Try and hit that ball over the fence from off the ground. Great way to finish.

  344. Willballs says:

Ive never in all my 39 years of watching playoff baseball ever seen a team strike out as much in clutch spots and have 4 top players all hitting under .200!
This is a 2nd all time low for me in Yankee land!
Funny thing is aside from winning championship in 2009 since Arod has joined this team it’s been the most un-clutch team in post season with one at bat worse than next.

    • Mikhel says:

That was already in motion since JoeT began to lose the players brought to the Yankees by Gene Michaels and Buck Showalter. Their next crop of players were different and JoeT never ever won again with those players.

  345. Nice Scheister AKA M.F.I.K.Umps says:

Granderson swings over the top of a pitch in the dirt, fitting way to end the game. All they needed was bags runners yet everyone is swinging for the fences. Awful baseball.

  346. Effthisnoise says:

Man its gonna be sweet when the yanks come back to win this series

  347. your mom says:

    Fuck the Tigers.

  348. Anthony says:

Can’t wait for changes this offseason. Don’t know what they will be, but I know they will happen.

  349. Knoxvillain says:

Any more “true fans” think they’re gonna win the World Series, let alone win a game?

    • Jerome S. says:

I still think they can. I’m not calling it over yet.
I will say that it’s just as foolish to say that the Yankees will win the World Series as it is to say that they won’t. So I will simply say that they can.

  350. Chris says:

I guarantee the Yankees comeback and win the next 4 games.

  351. stuart a says:

if the score was 1 nothing they probably still lose but it changes everything.

arod got a single thru the infield, lets sign him to an extension to please his delusional fanbase.

they came out like killers today, with there backs to the wall, a tremendous performance. so many great ab’s and big contributors where do I start..

this team should give back all there pay, disgraceful….

  352. D23 says:

    Rob,

good point. They need to get out and start fresh. If the As, Giants can come back 2-0 to tie the series, why couldn’t the Yanks? I know, I know, we go against Verlander, the offense is horrendous, yada yada yada. We need some breaks and some luck and got to take one W to get us going….

  353. Moo Shu Pork (Currently Eddard) says:

By the end of this series, which will either be in the next 2 or 3 games, the trio of Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher will shatter the all time record for strikeouts in one postseason series.

This team’s soul was lost when Mariano went down. It’s heart was lost when Jeter went down. You will see no fight back in Detroit.

    • Mikhel says:

7 and 23 was their record when they didn’t hit a homerun. THAT’s what is wrong, they depend too much of the long ball.

Even in the 9th inning you could see Martin taking hacks at the ball even when a solo HR was of no use because they needed a rally, to put together a string of hits to pressure Detroit’s pitchers.

And the last out of the game? Granderson K’s trying to hit it out of the park.

  354. Chilango says:

Tough to see them winning in Detroit, even when CC goes. Team is lost right now. The axis of shitty hitting -Swish, Granderson and ARod- plus Cano’s astonishing choke are too much to overcome. Hope I’m wrong

  355. Mick taylor says:

Paul o’neil said you if you are the yankees you have to show some fire get angry with the tigers. I guess he did not see ca pecking fit up with Miguel Cabrera after that blown call. Could anyone see o’neill or Jorge posada doing that? Jorge I miss you

  356. Mick taylor says:

Sorry forthe typos. Meant to say cano whooping it up

  357. Mick taylor says:

Jorge would have kicked cano’s ass if he saw thatWhooping it up session

  358. Mick taylor says:

Can you see Paul o’neil whooping it up with manny Ramirez during the playoffs
