So every ball hit to him should get by him or result in an error! Great logic! It turns out he’s actually a major league short stop who can make a play from time to time. Maybe the Yankees offense should hit the ball out of the infield with even a minimum amount of authority? Then you might see some good fortune.
You have to admit that, for a team that’s been as defensively bad as they were, they (and especially Peralta) have had a lot a very good plays for just 2 games.
It’s unreal how many great SP performances this offense has wasted.

You can’t throw him the same pitch over and over again and expect to get him out. After that many splitters, you had him dead if you threw a 2-seamer over the inside corner. Now you can’t do that on 3-2 because he’ll be ready for it. Splitter again and walk him if you have to.

Hiroki has been great, but he is on short rest, for the first time ever. 70-80 pitches is an obvious danger zone for someone on short rest. (The color guy for the broadcast I’m listening to – not sure what it is, but not TBS – said exactly that going into the 7th inning, and sure enough Hiroki gave up a double and a single.) The pen was barely used two days ago. It also wasn’t used very strenuously last night, because Girardi is a fucking idiot and only used D-Rob and Soriano for one inning each. So those guys are both fresh. They’re ready. They can go for more than one inning. They ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO NOT LOSE THIS GAME. It would have made a lot of sense to bring in a reliever as soon as that double happened.
But Joe is going to wait until there’s two runs to bring in a reliever.Then he’ll bring in Lowe, because it’s “not a save situation” and Joe is a fucking moron.

At least as it is only a 1 run deficit, Girardi might actually use Robertson in the 8th and not turn to Lowe again. If it’s 2 runs, he’s not allowed to use Robertson.

If Young strikes out, Detroit probably doesn’t score. When you put the ball in play, guys have to make those plays under pressure and you can force mistakes.
You can usually only generate “good luck” by putting the ball in play.
And the few times the Yankees have done that in this series, good plays have been made on them by a crappy infield defense.

Something I came up with earlier, will not and I’m not sure how effective it would be:
Stewart DHs and hits 8th, Gardner plays center hits 9th, Ichiro leads off and plays left, Nix hits 2nd and plays SS. Then mix and match where you want after that. Tex 5th and Ibanez 4th, Martin 6th, 7th and 3rd you’re up to deciding.
It may not be effective, but a lot more singles hitters wouldn’t hurt in order.

They’ve driven in ZERO runs outside of the ones driven in by Ibanez, Ichiro, and Granderson during this timespan.

Struggling with RISP is not bad luck when your approach sucks and you swing and miss at this many pitches right down the middle. Every hitter is sitting on the fastball, and the other team knows it and won’t throw them one.
When you are facing crappy pitchers in May, that approach might work, but when the guy has other pitches he can go to, you have to ADJUST. This team never adjusts, and that is why they look so pathetic for this many at bats in a row.
That’s why Kevin Long should be fired.

Why is Kuroda still pitching?
I’ve started to — PARTIALLY– get beyond frustration and anger and sort of oddly appreciate the sheer scope of awful ARod, Swisher, Cano and Granderson (to a slightly lesser extent) have been. There’s something almost cooly gothic about it. I can’t recall, ever, a team with four players simultaneously mired in such awful, epic slumps.
Yeah it’s like watching history in the making, first man on the moon stuff. A club that manages to win 95 games and then chokes this bad. Awesome.

A manager does not get credit for wins because he does not do the baseball-playing and pitching and hitting, which is necessary to wins. Raul Ibanez does play in the game. So, he can contribute to the outcome — hit a home run, knock in a run, whatever. By doing so, he actually deserves some credit for the win. The manager doesn’t play, so he doesn’t contribute anything toward the win.
However, the manager can meddle. Very often, this meddling actually is bad — like when he orders a sacrifice bunt that kills a rally, or works a matchup that doesn’t make any sense, or intentionally walks someone, or puts in a bunch of shitty relievers when he has a rested pen pretending it’s the fucking regular season. While these decisions may not be solely responsible for a loss, when there’s enough of them and they’re obviously counter-productive, then the manager does deserve some responsibility for the loss.
Girardi has made many obviously counter-productive decisions today and yesterday, and absolutely deserves responsibility for the loss.

Don’t blame the umpires. Their calls have not been great but the Yankees have scored 4 run in the last 20 innings. Their mega stars have mailed it in…Arod, Cano, Swisher, Granderson…so the Yankees are getting EXACTLY what they deserve, being embarrassed on national television in the playoffs.
They tell their fans they sign people for the playoffs and then continue to reward players for failing. Not one job, outside playing for the Yankees or working on wall st rewards employees for failure. The Yankees will continue I this fashion by extending Cano to another crippling contract during his declining, pouting years (how can you not run out a ground ball. Such an ass), picking up Granderson cuz, you know he hits HR’s, and continuing to mortgage the future by trading the farm system.

Just look at some of these ejection videos on MLB.com. The calls on ones that aren’t arguing balls and strikes are just utter garbage.
I would argue that the Cano play was a huge one last night. They would have had a lead and the bases would have been loadd. Epic momentum killer.

Canó has been swinging at pitches outside of the home plate. Umpires typically call strikes where the batter likes to swing.
If a player likes low pitches NEAR the strike zone, the umpire usually extends the strike zone.
For Canó there have been mostly outside pitches since he faced Miguel Ángel “El Mariachi” González of the Orioles.

It would take nothing to have expanded instant replay RIGHT NOW. Just the fact that TBS can show whether a call was correct or not in about 20 seconds demonstrates this fact.
