ALDS Game Four Thread: Orioles @ Yankees

By

The buzz of last night’s Game Three win is still in the air, and now the Yankees have a chance to clinch a trip to their third ALCS in the last four seasons with a win tonight. The pitching has been stellar so far and Phil Hughes will look to continue that trend in Game Four, but there is a well-rested bullpen behind him if necessary.

Unfortunately, the Yankees family lost a member recently as Joe Girardi‘s father Jerry passed away following a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 81. Joe will remain with the team and manage tonight’s game though, which is something I’m sure his father would have wanted him to do. Let’s win it for Jerry Girardi fellas. Here are the lineups…

Baltimore Orioles
LF Nate McLouth
SS J.J. Hardy
RF Chris Davis
CF Adam Jones
C  Matt Wieters
DH Jim Thome
1B Mark Reynolds
2B Ryan Flaherty
3B Manny Machado

LHP Joe Saunders (9-13, 4.07)

New York Yankees
DH Derek Jeter
LF Ichiro Suzuki
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
3B Alex Rodriguez
RF Nick Swisher
Russell Martin
CF Curtis Granderson
SS Jayson Nix

RHP Phil Hughes (16-13, 4.23)

The weather in New York is gorgeous but a little chilly, so perfect playoff weather. First pitch is scheduled for 7:37pm ET and the game can be seen on TBS. Enjoy.

I’m leaving when the game starts, but let’s go Yankees!

    Really exciting stuff.

    • RetroRob

Let’s hope you return to a celebration!

      • Rocky Road Redemption

Oh no, I only mean leaving the game thread. I’ll be watching, I just have no interest in dealing with the horrible negativity that pops up whenever the Bombers are struggling.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

We play today, we win today.

    ‘Das it.

  • https://twitter.com/YankeesGalaxy YankeesGalaxy

Yankee stadium better be loud from start to finish. The Yankees players need you to be loud.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Jayson Werth fucking EARNED that home run!

    • VT Yankee Fan

Too bad you can’t win in the postseason with home runs.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

True that. I got home from work just in time to see it, though I was following on the radio at work. Good for the Nats, their fans seem genuinely giddy for October baseball. I’m happy for them.

  • Get Phelps Up

Nationals: another team that didn’t get the memo that you can’t win with homers in the playoffs.

    • RetroRob

None of the teams that made the postseason got that memo.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)
      • Get Phelps Up

I like your new handle. Hopefully Phelps doesn’t have to get up today.

        • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

I think Tilapia started it, then I saw Jim Is Bored join in, so I figured we could start a movement in support of Hughes. I am considering doing variations of it for the rest of the postseason.

          • Don’t Get Phelps Up

That sounds like a pretty good idea.

            • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

              Heh, I like yours too.

        • Robinson Tilapia

Then shouldn’t you be “Sit Phelps Down (Cause Phil’s Got This)” tonight?

          • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

Whoops. Needed to update the screenname on the home PC.

            • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

              ‘Atta boy.

  • forensic

Extremely disappointed to see Grandy and Swisher in there with Ibanez on the bench.

Also disappointed, though slightly less so, that this is the night Girardi drops A-Rod and bumps up Tex since its a lefty on the mound.

    • The Real Greg

Benching Ibanez makes sense logically. Saunders has one of the biggest platoon splits in the majors.

Girardi is going pick his spot to use him.

      • forensic

Yeah, because Granderson is a switch hitter and red hot…

        • The Real Greg

You want Ibanez in the field? He He, Okay.

Unless you are willing to bet your season on Brett Gardner.

          • forensic

You’re right, I forgot how gold glovy Granderson is. The difference in their hitting potentially makes up far more than their defensive difference.

            • The Real Greg

              You have lost your mind.

              • Don’t Get Phelps Up

                Pot meet kettle.

                • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

Greg appears to be in prime form tonight. Good thing I’ve got a houseful of diapers.

                  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

I hope you lent some to Erica too, where ever she may be.

                • forensic

I don’t know whether to say thanks for the support or ask what I did to deserve that… :-)

    • RetroRob

Despite his leftyness, I believe Girardi would have played Ibanez tonight if Jeter wasn’t DHing, and I totally want Jeter in there since he’s crushed lefties all year and has been one of the few Yankee players hitting so far.

One of Swisher or Grandy will do something positive tonight….hopefully.

      • The Real Greg

That’s what I think and have said. If Jeter hadn’t gotten injured, Ibanez would be DH’ing.

        • Don’t Get Phelps Up

It doesn’t matter because THEY’RE NOT WINNING THIS YEAR.

  • vicki

whaddayaknow. few days ago reds-cards lcs looked like a lock.

  • The Real Greg

By the way, given the recent news, lets give Girardi a break tonight, unless it is a completely assinine move.

    • forensic

Do you sleep with your life size poster of him or do you just have it mounted above your bed to feel good when seeing it at night?

It’s sad about his dad, but nothing you ever say about Girardi should be taken with more than half a grain of salt.

      • The Real Greg

I am completely capable of criticizing the man. I’ve done it before.

        • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

          Well thank GOD.

          • RetroRob

There obviously is some back story here that I’ve missed. Is Greg a super pro Girardi guy?

            • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

No clue. I was just making fun of the “I am completely capable of criticizing the man” disclaimer, as if it actually matters.

            • The Real Greg

I am a super pro Manager Coach guy. I don’t like putting blame on the managers/coaches because they are not on the field playing. If they tab a person to get a job done, then it is the player’s job to get it done.

            • forensic

He’s almost like the reverse stuart a, but for Girardi. Nothing he does is ever a bad move.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan
  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Trio of Game 5′s. There doesn’t need to be another.

    Finish it tonight, Yankees.

  • Robinson Tilapia

    PHIL PHUCKING HUGHES!!!!!!!!

Why does David Wells look like Mick Foley right now?

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Now you’re making me look silly, R-Tils. Where is your support??!!

      • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

Home versus work PC. Now fixed.

    • vicki

      werth tribute.

  • Curtis Grandyerson a.k.a. Sombrero Sanchez

    Lets GET this

  • The Real Greg

I actually think if Jeter hadn’t gotten hurt, Ibanez would be DH’ing today.

  • dkidd

let’s phuck these baltimore phuckers in the phace!!!

    #unphortunatefrasing

    • RetroRob

      Phuck yeah.

      • Pinedas’ Colada

We’re going to dry phuck these birdies!

  • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

    Winger!

    Wait, Winger?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Finish em’

  • TomH

So, since Hughes is surely on a really short leash, is it a Phelps/Lowe follow-up if things go wrong?

    • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

      That’s what I’d imagine. Sure.

  • Eddard

Phil and Phelps are gonna win tonight. Offense comes alive and the team wins for Jerry Girardi 7-4. Yanks become the only team to win their LDS in less than 5 games.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

TBS (besides outright sucking) models their baseball coverage too similarly to their TNT basketball coverage. Craig Sager & David Aldridge make me sick with their lack of knowledge

    • Laz

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that both channels are owned by the same company?

  • ARod

The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated, i’m all in tonight bitches.

    • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

Then get off the site and get to some hittin!

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

I want to be at the game again. I didn’t want to leave early this morning.

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Moment of silence was classy. Win this for Jerry.

  • VT Yankee Fan (Phil Phranchise)

    Let’s do this!

  • awesomeo

SO PUMPED! Hopefully they come out relaxed after last night and just put the wood on the ball. Enjoy the game everyone.

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

    UUUUUSE.

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

If we make the ALCS, would we rather face the Athletics or Tigers?

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

      Let’s get there first ;)

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Tigers, just because I still have nightmares about that last trip to Oakland.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Phil still have the ‘Stache going?

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

      I couldn’t see/wasn’t paying attention.

By the way, I wanted to tell you that the NFL QB on twitter thing that you posted earlier today had my entire office in stitches.

      • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Dude, I was in tears while I was reading it!

        • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

I couldn’t believe how long it went on for. Just fucking hilarious.

          • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

            Twitter…

            • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

              NOPE.

Nobody wants to know when I take a shit, or some such nonsense. Facebook status updates are enough for me.

  • King George

    Let’s go, Yanks!

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Lead-off walk.

We don’t need that shit, Phil.

  • RetroRob

    Get Phelps Up.

  • The Real Greg

I don’t like this right off the bat. He doesn’t look good.

  • Cy Pettitte

    are you kidding me?

  • forensic

Not an ideal start. Tons of fouls and then a walk, and then that little shit…

  • King George

    And here we go.

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

    Take the free out.

    • ArchStanton

No kidding, what was he doing there?

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Here we go with #OriolesMagic.

  • The Real Greg

Ah the Orioles providing their early magic.

  • Pat D

Again Smoltz mistakes this park being home run prone with it giving up a lot of runs.

    • RetroRob

…and he assumes it’s equally favorable to left as it is right. I mean, he doesn’t even have to look that up to see the short field in right.

My guess is he does know it. He was too successful as a pitcher to not understand how a park plays. He’s just going with the meme to feed the masses.

  • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

That bunt sucked my ass. Seriously.

    • Pat D

You’re trying to hard, R-Tils. Don’t make me add (I BELIEVED IN HARVEY DENT) to the end of my handle.

      • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

No such thing as trying too hard. This ship goes down, I’m going down with it.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

….I hope the bunt brushed its teeth afterwards.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

There’s the first out. Let that get Phil into a groove.

  • Effthisnoise

This has 5 run 1st wriiten all over it. Please Hughes settle down

  • Electric nunez

    Hughes give me agita

  • Mike HC

There was no chance at throwing McLouth out there?

    • The Real Greg

I don’t know why McClouth went in the first place. Probably caught him by surprise.

      • Mike HC

Maybe. It caught me by surprise.

    • Electric nunez

Granderson has a Lf arm like a young Damon.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Maybe a small one. But that risks the runner at first being able to move to second on the throw, just giving the O’s potentially 2 runs on a single.

      • Mike HC

Yea, I guess the Yanks strategy is to play it safe there.

        Still seemed odd.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Throw to second so both runners aren’t in scoring position.

  • King George

All right, all right. One more out.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

You all need to have a little phaith ;)

  • Hummingbird S.

every single fastball has been up in the zone.. that’s dangerous

  • bill

    phew.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Haha, it’s phunny cuz it’s PHew

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    **exhale**

  • Pat D

Look’s like it’s a good thing the bullpen is relatively fresh. Too many damned pitches, Phil.

  • ArchStanton

Scary flyball guy was scary, but no harm done. Whew.

  • The Real Greg

Hughes survived by the skin of his teeth.

  • Hummingbird S.

not pretty, but it did the job, thankfully.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    Phlyball Phil Phuckin Hughes :D

  • Cy Pettitte

phly ball phil in phull effect. way to escape the jam.

    • OMG! Bagels!

By the second inning this will be phucking old.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

hughes!!!! get your feet wet. get the rust off. now pick it up.

  • Effthisnoise

    Breathe

  • Electric nunez

Amen hughes made it thriugh 1
    Get phelps and lowe ready.

  • forensic

    Whew, thank you.

  • RetroRob

Nice recovery from the deadly bunt. Don’t want a bunt turning the Orioles’ postseason around.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Whew.

Time for the bats to go work.

  • Eddard

Looks like Phelps will be needed tonight. Phil might limit the damage but he will throw a lot of pitches to do it.

    • Frank

      He’s on par for 5 innings-maybe.

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Word. I kind of expected Hughes to be a bit rusty after a 10 day layoff. Hopefully he settles down a bit.

The offense spotting him some runs would sure help :)

    • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

Pitched well. That bunt was a freak thing.

      • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Well-ish. Lead off walk, deep fly to end the inning. Threw a few too many pitches. I’m not bitching, he probably needed to shake a bit of rust off.

  • Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!)

I thought this had five run first written all over it.

    Maybe it still does. :)

  • Kevin

Yeah, okay Curtis, you made the catch and stranded runners at 1st and 3rd, but where was the bubblegum bubble? Looking cool is surely more important than being effective, right?

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

At least Alex has been more productive than Wieters.

  • Electric nunez

Phil would be a cy young pitch in
San Diego which is latin for a whales vagina.

  • yo

    #BUCKleup?

    #FUCKleoff

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

Meredith is so hot. I met her and Kay last night. Her PR person is a bitch tho.

    • Pat D

      How’d you manage that?

    • OMG! Bagels!

Why does she have a PR person?

      • Pat D

        Why don’t you?

      • Electric nunez

        Was it her wingman?

    • RetroRob

Was it her PR person of her agent? In entertainment, agents can be a real pain.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Saunders seems like a LHP version of Garcia…and something tells me Garcia’s junk would mystify the Yankees for six or seven innings.

  • Pat D

    Just barely out.

  • Pat D

Glad to see the energy of the crowd at the end of the game last night carried over to tonight.

  • Mike HC

I don’t know … looks like he should be able to play short to me running

    • Mike HC

      like that

  • OMG! Bagels!

I sometimes listen to Sterling and Suzyn and have no clue what the hell is going on in the game. Same with Kay and O’Neill (though Kay got better this year, maybe something was said to him that he should actually talk about the GAME in the booth) but if I am only reading game threads on RAB, I have NO CLUE what is going on except we are losing 11000-0 through 6.

    • Pat D

Was listening to the Reds/Giants game on the radio when I was running errands today. Berman’s play by play is…interesting, let’s say.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Haha. Hopefully the game thread gives a better portrayal tonight. Last night was borderline embarrassing.

    • RetroRob

So you don’t know what’s going on in the game if you’re listening to the radio, watching TV or following on RAB? You’re running out of avenues!

      • OMG! Bagels!

clearly. I shut Kay off when I’m all hearing about is lunch but Sterling is calling 2-1 counts when he just said it was 1-2 or some crap like that. I’m always screaming at the radio. On TV I can watch but the whole food thing makes me crazy.

My best bet is to walk along streets in Manhattan and judge from the sound of the crowds in bars what’s going on.

        • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Honestly, the ESPN Radio crew isn’t bad. Just mute the TV and put that on.

        • RetroRob

Sterling is the one who drives me crazy because he’s radio. I have no problem sitting with the sound off for TV. I can see for myself what’s happening when the game’s on TV. Radio requires an announcer to help paint what’s happening on the field. I feel defenseless when all I have to depend on is Sterling, who gets excited with the other team gets hits, seems oblivious when the Yankees hit a ball, unless there’s even the slightest chance it’s a HR.

  • ArchStanton

This zone to Ichiro has been awful.

  • Hummingbird S.

very generous strikezone to an O’s pitcher, yet again

    • OMG! Bagels!

You give magic strike zones to magical teams. Consistently winning teams get non-consistent strike zones.

      • Hummingbird S.

        Thanks Greg.

      • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

You mean inconsistent teams get inconsistent zones, I take it?

      • awesomeo

As long as he gives hughes the outside part I’m ok with it.

  • Hall and Nokes

    A walk!

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Don’t tap the Ump, Robbie. He’s evil.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Oh man that was your pitch!

  • The Real Greg

Cano has been horrible in this series.

  • Electric nunez

Rosery beads and bacardi ready for top of the second.

    • OMG! Bagels!

I used to go to church like that. The nuns frowned upon it.

  • King George

Well at least we’re seeing them more selective at the plate as opposed to last night’s first pitch swing-for-all.

  • SammySosasBleachingCream

Cano continues to be a no-show.

    • RetroRob

      It’s A-Rod’s fault.

      • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

yeah, what a jerk. he’s so bad, he’s messing up the rest of the team. jerk.

        • RetroRob

Seriously though (my first comment obviously wasn’t) is if nothing else you’d figure A-Rod absorbing all the media negativity would take some of the pressure off the other hitters. Maybe he does, but hasn’t shown up in the early showing. Then again, pitching is generally tougher in the postseason. Just ask the Orioles.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

If the Yankees don’t beat Joe Saundershit I’ll never root for them for as long as I live.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

In fact, I’ll start rooting for Greg.

      • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

        Whoa. That’s heavy, bro.

        • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Just kidding. It would have to be Luke Hochevar or something.

  • The Real Greg

    That 1-1 was a strike

    • anon

If Phil continues to get squeezed in the zone on actual strikes while Saunders gets a foot on each side of the plate, it’s going to be a long night…

  • Hummingbird S.

on the other hand, the strikezone for Hughes is pathetic. gotta love those umps

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Remember last year when it was “I believe in AJ Burnett”? Good times…

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Hughes sharper here to start the second.

    • Electric nunez

Girardi winked at him in the dugout and pointed to arod.

  • Electric nunez

Well it apears there are two strike zones tonight.

  • The Next Guy

Phil is certainly getting a ton of swing-and-misses early on.

  • Pat D

Is TBS amplifying the PC Richard sound?

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Seems like it. I had the sound way down last night and could still here it like it was full volume.

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

But I thought it was a given that every Reynolds AB would be a HR tonight…

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    HUGHES!!!!!!

  • Pinedas’ Colada

    21 more outs!

  • forensic

    Mucho better inning there Hughes!

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

    think phil will be a-ok.

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Much better, Phil. Much phucking better. Keep this up, my man!

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

    Ephicient Phil.

  • Kevin

When Hughes struck out Reynolds just then, did you guys watching in the US also get the little ‘whistling’ strikeout noise, or is that specially reserved for us UK viewers?!

    • flamingo

Do you mean the Yankee Stadium PC Richard and Sons chime? It’s after every strikeout.

      • Kevin

Ah right, brilliant, thanks. I’ve never noticed it before, even when attending games at the stadium, so assumed it was a TV gimmick.

    • stanley a

      Yep, we got it too.

  • VT Yankee Fan (Phil Phranchise)

Good pitch count recover in that inning.

  • OMG! Bagels!

Last night’s game thread: you suck (approximately 7000 times), where the fuck is the offense (approximately 10000 times), you really suck (approximately 8000 times), take a fucking pitch! (about 5000 times), we’re doomed (about 12000 times), here we go again (about 17,500 times), we deserve to lose (about 17 times), this is game 2 all over again (14 time), I hate you (fill in Yankee name) (about 1200 times), I hate you (fill in Orioles name) (about 1100 times).

OHMMYGODTHATWASMAGIC. RAAAUUULLLL. I LOVE THIS TEAM!!! OH MY GOD!!! This is the greatest game EVER. It’s 2009 all over again!!!! I love the Yankees!!!! RAAAUUULLLL!!!! (a few times)

    • The Real Greg

I took a jaunt over to Camden Chat, the Orioles site. They say “fuck” alot. And I mean a lot.

Also read the phrase “horse ejaculation” for the first time.

      • Pat D

Considering #OriolesMagic, it probably should have been “unicorn ejaculation.”

        • OMG! Bagels!

Do unicorns ejaculate rainbows or is it the other way around?

          • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

            Rainbows ejaculating unicorns?

            • OMG! Bagels!

              Why not? It’s MAGIC.

      • OMG! Bagels!

Wow. That’s crazier than here. My favorite non-Yankee blog is Over the Monster and I say that non-sarcastically. Those guys are really funny and creative when they’re losing badly.

        • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

They can be pretty ridiculous too though. Those threads at the end of 2011 were priceless.

          • OMG! Bagels!

This year I gave them credit for showing up at all, even if it was to just hate on Bobby Valentine. Can’t say I blame them.

        • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

          SBNation site? Yea they’re cool.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

That game thread almost made me embarrassed to be a Yankee fan. After a little interaction with that (seemingly normal and completely rational) O’s fan the other day, I wish this fan base didn’t come across this way. I bailed on the game thread around the 6th inning. Just too much.

      • Pat D

        Quitter.

        • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Oh I watched the game. But that thread was just too much to slog through.

          • Pat D

I was referring to the thread.

      • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

It’s also funny because someone said to me in the beginning of the thread that “there weren’t many trolls here.” I invite that person to re-read the entire thread.

        • OMG! Bagels!

That would be torture. I didn’t even have to refresh last night…it was just the same thing over and over and over again.

      • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

yeah, i checked it a few times, but didn’t stick around.

thought swish got more of that. poopcicle.

    • awesomeo

      Guilty of a few here.

    • Don’t Get Phelps Up

After the game last night, I put on some music and scrolled through all 3 threads. It was fun.

  • The Real Greg

Predicition: Russell goes oppo bomb against Saunders some time in this game.

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

he’s been pulling a lot of homeruns, i say he goes to left of him.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

This would be a great time for it :)

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

This has to be the first postseason game for the Yankees without Jeter at SS since 1995, right?

  • anon

Let’s hope Phil doesnt continue to get squeezed on actual strikes in the zone while Saunders gets a foot on each side of the plate, and on the top and bottom. Otherwise it will be a long night.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Saunders not all that sharp right now. Gotta capitalize.

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

    A HIT?!

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

goog job arod. not swinging at the slop.

  • Hall and Nokes

Look at Ibanez being a good sport and clapping for Alex’s walk

  • David N

Nice job by A-Rod taking the walk.

  • awesomeo

Now steal 2nd arod. I command you!

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

with a lefty on and weiters behind the plate? no.

  • VT Yankee Fan (Phil Phranchise)

I’d like to see ARod going here.

    • Hall and Nokes

Okay but it’s important to clear the 8th spot in this inning.

  • Defensive Indifference

Raul would have stole second and third by now.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

They are just missing these pitches right now.

  • anon

Damn. Two good hard swings from Swish and Martin and they both just missed and hit it right at McLouth

  • ItWasaThing

Saunders is leaving quite a few hittable balls over the middle of the plate, hopefully they start capitalizing on these.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Guys aren’t getting the barrel of the bat on these and are still hammering them, give it time.

  • SammySosasBleachingCream

    Three and out for Curtis?

    • SammySosasBleachingCream

      I should play lotto.

    • The Real Greg

      Uh huh

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    Curtis…come on man.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Kurtis with a K.

    Well, that’s shocking.

  • Hummingbird S.

there’s no good reason for Granderson to start this game… he’s a fucking joke

    • The Real Greg

      WHO?

The only other option is Brett Gardner.

      • Hummingbird S.

who would definitely have an AB of more than 3 pitches and can actually play CF, unlike Granderson’s sorry ass

      • SammySosasBleachingCream

Joe Torre wasn’t afraid to bench guys who weren’t producing. Tino and Boggs both got benched in ’96.

  • Hans Moleman

    Put Gardner in.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

grandy needs to find that lefty on lefty magic he had going on before the allstar game.

  • jm

Ok the goal of making saunders look like a first-ballot hall of famer is still intact.

    • CUYanks

As long as we win. Miguel Gonzalez has his legacy intact too and that worked out ok.

  • Cy Pettitte

Granderson’s ABs are so bad. at least Arod works the count.

  • David N

Predictable Granderson K is predictable. Sigh…

  • anon

Grandy looks fckin AWFUL right now. BG or Raul cant be any worse hitting against a LHP

  • stanley a

    predictable Kurtis strikeout is predictable

  • CountryClub

Ball isn’t carrying at all tonight.

    • CUYanks

This might be a good thing for Phil Hughes.

  • Electric nunez

Granderson lost up there kevin long should be worried about his job this off season.

  • ItWasaThing

Curtis hasn’t looked this awful in 2 years.

  • RkyMtnYank

Kurtis still looks terrible, I’d rather watch Gardner bunt for a single.

    • jm

seriously i hope he makes an appearance tonight.

  • HughesPhanInBeantown

    Alright, here we go Hughsie.

  • Pat D

I want to make a comment about a commercial, but I can’t. Damn politics ban.

    • RetroRob

No political ad in my area of NY. I’m guessing it was the local break in for either NJ or perhaps close to Philly if I remember where you said you live.

      • Pat D

Yea, I’m in what would be considered Philly area.

Thing is that it’s an ad I’ve seen on YES, too.

        • RetroRob

YES might also have local ads based on market, meaning NY city, suburbs, NJ, CT. Don’t know.

  • RetroRob

One positive, I guess, is the Yankees did hit some fly balls of Saunders. If that continues, they’ll get to him.

  • The Real Greg

I don’t like Grandy right now any more than all of you. But we have no choice. I don’t trust Brett Gardner on offense.

    • Raul Ibanez

      Hi.

      • The Real Greg

        You’re 40. You can’t play center field.

        • Ichiro

          But I can.

          • The Real Greg

And have a crappy defensive outfield. Good idea.

            • Don’t Get Phelps Up

              It’s only slightly worse.

            • Don’t Get Phelps Up

Or, to channel my inner Greg, how can an outfield featuring a 10 time gold glover be crappy?

            • Mikhel

Not a lot more crappier than it already is, Granderson is one of the worst CF judging by singles turned to doubles when the ball is hit towards him, and a lot of runners already on base, advancing an extra base on a single.

        • HughesPhanInBeantown

Could Ibanez ever play center field?

    • CUYanks

He’s easy to hate until he gets one big swing in and then he’s pretty lovable.

    • OMG! Bagels!

Have they put him in the field yet?

  • Pinedas’ Colada

    Cashman needs to trade Granderson.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Showing way to much respect to Machado here.

  • SammySosasBleachingCream

    WTF Phil?

  • Electric nunez

    Strike

  • King George

Phil. Find the zone. That is all.

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

    Ah fuck.

  • stanley a

    Here we go…..

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Yay Nate McLouth former all star yayyyy

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Seriously. Cannot get Nate McLouth out at all. This is ridiculous.

    • jm

come on, mclouth hit in the 270s once…four years ago…

  • Hummingbird S.

    Hughes implosion coming..

  • King George

    Jesus.

  • Pat D

Top of the order coming up, Hughes has them right where he wants them.

  • Electric nunez
  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Phil gets out of this allowing no more than 1 run.

  • The Real Greg

I hate this. I had a bad feeling about Hughes. His postseason ERA sucks. He is not a big game pitcher.

  • Captain Gift Basket

Fuckin’ figure him out already. Christ – the guy was dumped by 2 teams.

  • Electric nunez

    Opening the Bacardi.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

      Way ahead of you.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    Nice play!!!

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

    Nice play Hughes!

  • Hummingbird S.

get Phelps up ASAP… dude has no idea where the FB or the changeup are going, and for some reason he doesnt want to throw the curve

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

    HUGHES! NICE PLAY!

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Well done there, Phil, and now the DP opens up as well.

  • RetroRob

    Nice.

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

Thanks O’s for using a stupid contact play!

  • David N

    I’ll take that.

  • Hummingbird S.

nice play Phil! at least you can field

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

wow. hell of a play by hughes.

  • King George

    Yes, yes. That will work.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Phil can phield.

  • Electric nunez

Wish hughes had that 2009 cutter now.

  • RetroRob

Okay, high strikeout player AB. Unfortunately he also can hit the ball 450 feet.

    • flamingo

Thankfully the “450 feet” didn’t happen.

  • David N

    One more, Phil.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    HUGHES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Big K, Phil.

    One more out here.

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

    SIT DOWN!

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

BIG K there, Phil! ONE MOAR OUT

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Terrible pitch. Phil got lucky.

    • The Real Greg

That was a case of a pitch being so bad and missed by so much that it fooled the hitter.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    YEAH PHILLY BOIIII

  • Pat D

    Hughes so cool.

  • Cy Pettitte

Phil fucking Hughes! balls of steel.

  • Hans Moleman

    Hughes!

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

    Sit down, Phelpsie.

  • stanley a

    PHIL PHUCKING HUGHES

  • flamingo

    NICE JOB, HUGHES.

  • The Real Greg

I take back a bit of what I said before. Hughes showed me something there

  • HughesPhanInBeantown

    Hell yeah, Philbert

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Well done, Phil.

But stop getting into these spots. Sooner or later, it will kill you.

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

    And Hughes is wonderful.

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Bravo, Phil. Second and third, no outs, and NO RUNS!

Come on offense, spot him something to work with.

  • Electric nunez

Hughes has a horseshoe up his ass.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Probably stole it from the O’s clubhouse.

      • Electric nunez

That was 2010 David Robertson like total houdni.

  • Hummingbird S.

nice freaking escape… but seriously have Phelps up in the next inning.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

Fucking Phil!!! He’s taken some magic classes and is now a licensed magician.

  • David N

Phil giving Orioles fans a taste of what RISPfail feels like. I approve.

  • King George

Wow, they had a 80% chance of scoring once there and didn’t. Let’s go, offense!

    • CUYanks

Yeah the run expectancy was ~1.9 there. Zero is more like it!

  • RetroRob

A very Yankee-like inning for the Orioles.

    Good job.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

You guys have no phaith. I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!!!

    http://riveraveblues.com/2012/.....nt-4943171

I posted that with 2nd and 3rd and no out.

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Feel free to continue making predictions.

  • ItWasaThing

Wow. Way to work out of that Phillip. Not on his A game tonight, but showing brass balls, getting out of jams.

  • VinRae

5-6 shutout innings from Hughes, everyone will definitely take that, yes?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      No, not good enough.

      • CUYanks

It depends on if he knows how to win.

      • Don’t Get Phelps Up

He needs to allow -2 runs and then I MIGHT take that.

    • RetroRob

I’ll take 7-9 shutout innings even more. I would say 9, but don’t want to appear to be greedy, but yeah.

      • CUYanks

If it’s extra innings we’ll need 10. Do YOU want Derek Lowe in this game?

    • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

9 or bust. if not, he sucks like a vacuum.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

I wish Samsung still aired this commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V40oo4kkzHg

  • stuart a

The Orioles are even more incompetent then the Yanks and that is hard to do.

why would anyone throw Granderson anything but an offspeed pitch ever?

man granderson looks worse the narod and again that is hard to do.

the offense running on all cylinders again tonight for the yanks…

get ready for the rip your cap routine… this offense is putrid……..

    • Don’t Get Phelps Up

      needs moar paradez…….

    • OMG! Bagels!

do you just cut and paste from game thread to game thread?

    • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

your comments are putrid….lets give you a raise…

Seriously though, why do you even comment anymore? Nobody takes you seriously.

    That a boy, Jayson!

  • Max

If the Yanks make the ALCS…

is it a 2-3-2 format with the Yanks hosting 1,2 and 6,7 if necessary?

    • David N

      Yes.

No off day between Game 5 of LDS (if necessary) and Game 1 of LCS, though, so that’s one difference from last year.

      • CUYanks

In theory, could CC go 1,4,7 on short rest twice?

        • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

If he’s not needed tomorrow, then yes.

          • CUYanks

Exactly, at this point all that matters is winning this series.

  • stanley a

    PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER

    Nix!

  • David N

    Nice start by Nix.

Score him with all due speed.

  • tyrone sharpton

Hughes pitches to the game, ala Jack Morris. Feeling good about this game. I’ll get up off my knees now.

  • Electric nunez

    Jeter sucks

    -Pete Rose

    • RkyMtnYank

eh, he just Jeter wouldn’t catch his record, which would be amazing if he did.

    • RetroRob

Rose so loves having that all-tiime hit record, which is understandable. He stuck around several years just to get it. He’s had Jeter on his list as someone who might potentially take him down, but then Jeter seemed to be slowing down in 2010, allowing Rose to rest. Then Jeter goes out and bangs out 216 hits at 38, and suddenly Rose needs to take ambien at night.

  • flamingo

    Some AB.

  • ItWasaThing

I feel like an absolute beatdown of Saunders could begin at any moment.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Jeets with one hell of an AB here!

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

Jeter’s had a really good AB so far.

  • stanley a

Really good at-bat by Jeter, regardless of outcome. Although I’d prefer if it ended with “in play (runs)”.

  • The Real Greg

Whatever the outcome, A heck of an at bat.

  • David N

If nothing else, Jeter is really making Saunders work here. That can only be a good thing.

  • Electric nunez

This guy has nothing to put jeter away with.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    11+ pitches, DAMN!

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

    What a battle here.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

damn jete! 12 pitches thus far.

  • ItWasaThing

Are Saunders slack jawed yokel facial expressions reminiscent of John Lackey to anyone else?

  • David N

    Damn.

  • CT Yankee

That bat needs to be buried.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    That was a buzzkill.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

You’re a bitch, Jeter, just retire already.

  • Electric nunez

Got him up to 43 good job.

  • Hummingbird S.

unfortunate, but that was a great AB.. might have seem more pitches on that AB than Granderson will in the whole game

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

I can almost guarantee that’s a true statement. Grandy probably gets 3 more ABs…probably going to see at most ten pitches between the 3.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

still, a damn good at bat. drive up that pitch count!

  • forensic

I don’t care if it was 13 pitches, he should get no congratulations for that.

    Sincerely, Tim McCarver

  • The Troll

Great AB, but the runner wasn’t even advanced. All said, it was an 80% failure.

  • flamingo

Pitch count not as pretty as it was a batter ago.

  • Hummingbird S.

top of the strikezone is only good for Saunders… fuck this ump

  • Pat D

See, that high strike to Ichiro ticks me off. Hughes has not been getting the high call. Very odd.

    • bill

      agreed

  • RetroRob

Really? Saunders strikes out Jeter and Ichiro?

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

someone needs to speak with this ump. i don’t mind the zone if it’s the same for both sides. it most definitely isn’t.

  • stanley a

They’re gonna strand the leadoff double aren’t they?

    • RetroRob

It seems yes. Somehow Saunders struck out the side.

    • SammySosasBleachingCream

That’s what this team does better than anybody.

  • Electric nunez

    Serious need a fair umpire.

  • Monterowasdinero

Who will pinch hit for Grandy to win tonight’s game?

    Nunez?

  • ItWasaThing

    That one stings.

  • David N

Too much RISPfail. Who’d have thought?

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Joe Saunders just struck out the side, with 2 RHB to boot.

    That’s ridiculous.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Saunders strikes out the side. Seriously awful.

  • Pat D

Here we go again. Can’t we get a fucking blowout for once?

  • JobaWockeeZ

It’s quickly becoming Ibanez or die.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

    #facepalm

  • Hummingbird S.

    this offense is awful

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Do you actually believe that they’re awful? They were 4 runs behind Texas for most runs in the league. If they’re awful, what does that make the rest of the team in the league?

  • flamingo

Saunders just struck out the side. Saunders.

  • The Real Greg

    Anger starting to rise here.

    • ItWasaThing

      OK, Bruce Banner. Calm Down.

      • Leg-End

That’s his secret, he’s always angry.

  • Karl Krawfid

Would one of these sorry as fucks sit on a breaking ball?

  • Eddard

Were these guys watching Jayson Nix hit? He was aggressive early in the count. Ichiro just sits there every time, strike 1 strike 2 and then you swing at the pitcher’s pitch. Texiera got a bad strike 1 call but then did the same thing on strike 2. BE AGGRESSIVE!

    • The Real Greg

Ichiro also got a bad strike call.

  • Captain Gift Basket

How the eff did this team make it to the playoffs? Effin’ choke jobs

    • Don’t Get Phelps Up

      It’s the scouts’ fault.

      • Captain Gift Basket

        What scouts?

        • Don’t Get Phelps Up

The ones you always blame when the Yankees get beat by bad players.

      • Captain Gift Basket

I’m referring to their God awful ability hitting with RISP

  • CountryClub

It’s only 3 innings, so things can turn around. But I don’t want to hear anything about them tipping their caps to Saunders. He is leaving pitches to hit all over the place. They’re just not doing anything with them.

But I think they’ll get to him.

  • SammySosasBleachingCream

    DAFUQ

  • Hall and Nokes

Come on guys, maybe he stopped being a 5 K/9 pitcher overnight

  • stuart a

their offense is actually worse then any adjective.

they are so incompetent it is staggering.

tex has about 15 rbis or less in the playoffs for the yanks in 4 years…

swinging at balls all over the place…ichiro doing jack also….

it isibanez, jeter, and the 7 blind mice….

    • SammySosasBleachingCream

      Jeter isn’t distinguishing himself either.

      • stanley a

He’s been their best hitter this series (outside of Ibañez, of course).

  • CUYanks

Hey, Yankees only stranded runner on second, no outs. Orioles stranded 2nd and 3rd, no outs. Not a bad trade.

  • bill

how come people can’t score runs this series? I guess good ups to pitching?!?

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and fuck Joe Saunders because he’s a fucking awful piece of shit pitcher who should be getting demolished but the Yankee offense is garbage.

    • CUYanks

      Imagine how Rangers fans feel.

  • flamingo

Anyone in this thread realize there are still six innings left?

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Nope. You didn’t hear, games are over as soon as people start getting antsy.

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

It’s a new rule for the 2012 postseason instituted by Selig. They rushed it in for this year instead of expanded replay.

The technology isn’t perfectly mature yet, but they basically have an MLB intern crawl through sports blogs and as soon as the commenters reach a certain Antsy Quotient threshold, the game is called.

Sorry, I don’t smoke dope and just chill out like you zen fans.

      • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

zen and dope don’t have to go hand and hand, but not a bad idea.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Then how else are you supposed to make your opinions look better than mine then?

    • OMG! Bagels!

This is every game thread. You have to leave for about an hour and come back, otherwise it’s just the same post over and over again.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

4th inning folks. relax. we all knew this would be tough and saunders has been pitching good lately (shutting down texas in a must win). they got time.

  • SammySosasBleachingCream

What the fuck with Phil and the walks?

  • Pinedas’ Colada

If we’re going to advance to the ALCS, how can we hit against the possible likes of Verlander, Schrezer and Fister? Wake the fuck up, Yankees!

    • Hall and Nokes

Not too concerned about Berlander. Do the Tigers have any obscure lefties with questionable stuff?

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

We kill good pitchers (not named Felix Hernadez) we can’t hit bad to mediocre pitchers.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

The Yankees are probably better off facing pitchers like that, fastball-first right-handers.

  • The umpire molests collies

    Come on hughes pitch.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Enough with the lead-off walks already. Holy shit Phil.

  • your mom

Come on Phil, no lead-of runners please. Especially when you haven’t given up the requisite HR.

  • Hummingbird S.

Please get Phelps up.. this might be Hughes last inning. He looks terrible.

    • The Real Greg

      And yet….

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

      HAVE PHAITH!!

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

That’s the most productive thing Matt Wieters has done all series.

  • stanley a

Hughes has walked the leadoff man in three of his four innings pitched. When you play with fire, you get burned.

  • Brooklyn Nets

    Phil Hughes arrives today.

  • King George

    Phil, settle. Find the zone.

  • jim norton

baseball, hot dogs, yogurt mouth, and chevrolet…

  • The Troll

Wow. Just when you think this offense CAN’T get any worse . . . How can these guys suck THIS much? For the past decade or so, I seem to have finally weathered the sting of a non-existent October offense . . . Since I know that they’re going to royally suck, I just don’t give a hoot when they do. With that said, though, why does the same exact story continue to play out postseason after postseason? Too many cerebral players and non-contact hitters?

    • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

So you’re saying we need a bunch of muscular idiots?

  • CUYanks

Any consideration for dropping that to get Thome on base?

    • Don’t Get Phelps Up

There’s really no difference in Thome or Wieters on the bases.

      • CUYanks

I guess you’re right. I mean its only a marginal improvement not worth the risk.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      1. Probably better to keep Wieters out there so his legs tire or something.

      2. Don’t risk it in the playoffs. The ball takes a weird bounce and suddenly it’s two on with no outs.

      • CUYanks

Yeah I forgot it was Wieters on 1st. Makes it almost all risk and no reward.

  • Pinedas’ Colada

Let’s not go there again, Phil.

  • Hummingbird S.

that hanging changeup or whatever he calls it… that’s not a good place to throw that shit

  • Fieding culbreth wets the bed

    A gidp please

  • Pinedas’ Colada

    16 MORE OUTS!

    • CUYanks

      (need 1 run)

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    No two-out letdown here.

  • Freddy’s Mom

I’m not gonna be commenting much tonight but I will say this: it seems to me the ump so far hates us. If I’m Girardi I’d already be thinking about who to bring in for Hughes, these leadoff walks are asking for it. Get Chavez and Ibanez in ASAP. Jeez, frustrating…

  • King George

Man, Hughes is not getting these calls at all.

  • youngmanalex

man we got so lucky that stayed in the park.

  • CountryClub

    This ump has two zones

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Uh, that is a two-out letdown, Phil.

Just be glad that was Wieters running, and not someone with speed.

  • Fieding culbreth wets the bed

Come on hughes feel that horseshoe

  • stanley a

    Ryan Flaherty, yup.

  • Hummingbird S.

beautifully played by Swisher… Hughes looks done. Take him out

  • CUYanks

Does anyone find it at least a little off-putting that Cal refers to every player by his first name?

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Phil needs to phind his phcommand.

  • Fieding culbreth wets the bed

    Fuck you fielding

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

I wish Hughes was getting the strike zone Saunders got.

  • Cy Pettitte

Hughes is getting no calls at all, can’t keep pitching from behind in the count to every hitter

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Oh come on the 1-1 was clearly a strike!!

  • Monterowasdinero

    Phil’s changeup is AA level.

  • RkyMtnYank

Smoltz calls the ball a centimeter off the corner, brilliant!!!

  • Marcus

If the MLB gameday pitch locations are at all accurate, Phil is getting squeezed repeatedly.

  • Cy Pettitte

    big time pitching by Phi!!

  • http://yanksgoyard.com/ Joe F

Hughes needs to settle down though. This won’t happen every inning.

  • Fieding culbreth wets the bed

    Phil huge not hughes.

  • jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay)

Hughes grinding this out. Nice work.

PLEASE GET THIS MAN SOME RUNS!

  • VinRae

    HUUUGHES!

    But please enough of that.

  • RetroRob

Nice job in the tough spots tonight by Phil.

  • http://theevilsquare.com handtius

phil throwing some filth out there! so nasty.

  • stanley a

    Phuck yeah!

    Houdiniesque

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Man…Phil has been terrible tonight. Look at all those runs he’s given up!!

  • Don’t Get Phelps Up

The Orioles are a bunch of overpaid chokers!

  • your mom

Good job Phil. Can’t expect to wiggle out of these situations everytime though. NEED SOME FUCKING OFFENSE!!!

  • Knoxvillain

Shaky start from Hughes so far. But he’s doing his job. I’m very surprised and very satisfied.

  • David N

Not that I’m complaining about the results of Hughes’ pitching, but…where’s my blood pressure medication?
