ALDS Game Two Spillover Thread II

By

Another thread to keep things moving along. Some runs would be nice, as would allowing Robinson Cano to swing the bat with a man on-base.

  1. Matt says:

Matsuz made some tough pitches there on Swisher, but the 1-0 was a cookie and he straight took it. You have to be more aggressive in that spot with runners on base. They aren’t pitching around you to get to Teixeira batting right handed even with the base open.

    • Lew says:

I don’t get to watch the Yanks that often, so am not sure how typical tonight “looked” for them Obviously it wasn’t their best night. But I couldn’t help feeling that there was a lot of dead weight in their lineup – A-rod seemed terrible, Swish was obviously terrible, Granderson was swinging at some terrible pitches, Tex seemed to be flailing and just get lucky a couple of times. And of course Martin is an out maker, with the occasional home run. So it felt like, if they don’t get their run production from Jeter, Ichiro and Cano, their toast. But hopefully that’s just one night, and next game will feel very different…

  2. oldmanalex says:

i hope swish gets that jayson werth contract. i really do..

  3. Get Phelps Up says:

We got this if Strop comes in.

  4. Dan says:

That strike two breaking ball really hung there.

And he just looked at it.

Stop being afraid! Swing the fucking bats!

  5. Souter Fell says:

Awful with RISP, awful against Matusz, keep him in

  6. BigBlueAL says:

Cano should not get a strike thrown to him the rest of this series.

  7. brooklym says:

Goodbye Swish I do like you but your post season play is terrible.

    • jjyank says:

aaaaand hello Ichiro? Dickerson? I get the Swish hate (and I love him, for the record), but outside of a Justin Upton trade, I don’t see an upgrade.

  8. Matt says:

11 baserunners, 2 runs, 2 for 8 with RISP, only one of which scored a run.

    So many chances.

  9. Dan says:

Swish is now 1/33 with RISP in the playoffs. That’s just terrible.

  10. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Andy has been outstanding outside of that third inning. Can we please get him at least off the hook for a loss?

  11. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

If I’m Buck I just leave in Matusz the LOOGY. It’s quite possible he’ll strike out the side next half inning. Then they have to contend with Johnson’s bowling ball. Alex couldn’t hit the frisbee so chances he hits a bowling ball are about as likely as him hitting a pinball.

  12. TheSaint says:

at least we know we wont have to hear about swish’s 1-whatever w/ risp in the postseason next year

  13. Adam says:

Wow, give it up to Andy.

  14. forensic says:

Swisher now 1-20 against Matusz. Better get used to seeing him this series.

  15. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Andy pitched his heart out tonight. What did Alex do to help? Nothing. What did Swisher do to help? Nothing. What did Granderson do to help? Nothing. Nunie, Jete, Ichiro, Teix are at least showing signs of life. Martin might need to hit another if we’re to tie it.

  16. Dan says:

Reminiscent of game 5 last year…

  17. TampaYankee says:

Swisher can do what he wants in the regular season, and I love his energy and what he brings to the table alot of games. But his postseason play is dreadful and I feel bad for whatever team gives him huge money.

We have the most HR’s in the league, but I don’t see our power. Granderson strikes out, alot, despite his high HR numbers, he’s done nothing in the playoffs so far. Tex doesn’t have the power anymore is doesn’t seem. A-Rod has less power than Nunez.

  18. Ace says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Ibanez pinch hit for Swisher if he gets the chance. Need some of that magic tonight.

  19. Mike N says:

What a great performance by Andy! Now let’s score some fucking runs!

  20. Electric nunez says:

    Canteena bowl = explosive diariha

  21. forensic says:

At least Grandy’s run into 4 pitches for homers from Matusz. Here’s hoping for another one…

  22. Adam says:

I love that people are like writing the team’s postscript for the season.

  23. Get Phelps Up says:

    Andy deserves better.

  24. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Two hangers to start the AB…take the bat off your shoulders Tex.

  25. alec says:

I think A-Rod should go back to taking steroids.

Steroids would maybe make him actually able to produce offensively again for us, which would be good. (“Cheating”, whatever, who gives a shit, I want to win.)

Of course, he could get caught. In which case he would get suspended. That would be good, too, because then we would no longer be burdened with following a place in the batting order to hide his worthlessness. And I think he only gets half salary after 30 days and no salary after 60. It would be one way to prematurely end his contract.

    • jjyank says:

Except where he was still pretty good (injuries aside) in comparison to other third baseman. He’s getting old, he’d getting injured. Thank you, Bill Nye, for point this out to us all.

But he can still be very productive, especially relative to his position.

  26. Souter Fell says:

Swish will go to the Mets where he doesn’t have to worry about postseason play

  27. Adam says:

Holy crap, I can’t believe he almost tried to stretch that.

  28. not enough homers says:

wtf that has to be a double

  29. Hummingbird S. says:

    please PR for Teix now

  30. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Now put Gardner in to pinch run. We need that run. And don’t bunt!

  31. Phil-thy says:

thank god he didn’t go for 2

  32. Glad Tex didn’t do something stupid and get thrown out on the basepaths there.

  33. forensic says:

Geez Tex. Get a damn motorized wheelchair, you’d be faster…

  34. oldmanalex says:

question, is it time to move tex up?

  35. Hans Moleman says:

    No PR?

  36. Adam says:

Ok I am the biggest Girardi defender, but he somehow falls asleep on pinch runners. WTF.

  37. Get Phelps Up says:

People are so eager to mention Swisher and Arod struggling but omitting the fact that Tex is now hitting .500 in this series.

  38. Electric nunez says:

    Come on blackhole sun

  39. Hummingbird S. says:

why have Gardner on the rster if you’re not gonna use him here?

  40. Fake Jim Bouton says:

    Pinch run here?

  41. Chilango Adoptivo says:

Just got back here. How many runs SHOULD they have scored?

  42. Adam says:

    Bullshit call again.

  43. No way in hell is that a strike?

    Fucking Angel Hernandez.

  44. The Real Greg says:

Problem with pinch running is that you lose his bat and defense in the late innings and if we go to extras.

  45. Hummingbird S. says:

of course hernandez would fuck us one more time

  46. Electric nunez says:

    Bullshit fire this guy

  47. Get Phelps Up says:

I hope somebody punches Hernandez in the face.

  48. Matt says:

    NOT EVEN FUCKING CLOSE

Angel Hernandez single handedly saving the Orioles season tonight.

It is one of the most pathetically biased displays I have seen in quite a long time. Pettitte is not getting anything close to what the Orioles pitchers have received.

  49. Dan says:

    FUCK THIS UMP

  50. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

    Wow Fuck you Angel Hernandez.

  51. pistol pete says:

    Why not pr Gardner.

  52. The Fallen Phoenix says:

    Frackin’ Angel Hernandez.

  53. forensic says:

Absurd that Girardi is not PR’ing for Tex. His run means everything and it’ll take 4 hits to score him at this rate. He likely won’t bat again if he doesn’t score either.

  54. Ace says:

Someone please get robot umpires created. I don’t care if they turn on the crowd once in a while. It’s worth it.

  55. The Real Greg says:

We should have known that the Yankees were not going to win when Angel Hernandez is calling the balls and strikes. Luckily this is probably his only game doing it in this series.

  56. Dan says:

And Girardi gotta pinch run! He can’t score on a single from second! What do you have to lose? Unbelievable

  57. TampaYankee says:

How do these idiots keep watching great pitches to kill? Grandy, Swisher, and A-Rod have all stared and some pitches they could have just smashed.

  58. oldmanalex says:

im sick and tired of hearing the “we will take the K’s cause he hits a lot of HRs.” GTFO… in the posteseason you dont have 600 abs to to hit 40 hrs…wtffffffffff

  59. Anthony says:

    Oh my god Granderson

  60. Knoxvillain says:

Granderson, A-Rod, Swisher. Please die. All of you. Just die right now.

  61. OMG! Bagels! says:

What happened in Atlanta was horrible. Bad call to ruin a perfect game horrible. So much bad umping. Why can’t they go on strike?

  62. Athenian says:

Wasted single. An now the strike out machine.

  63. And now Granderson strikes out. That ridiculous call on Martin changed the whole inning.

  64. Get Phelps Up says:

Angel Hernandez would have called that a strike.

  65. oriole killer says:

95% of Granderson at-bats are some of the worst baseball I’ve ever seen.

  66. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Great AB there Grandy…seriously did you decide you were gonna swing at the start of the wind up?

  67. BigBlueAL says:

Grandy had no fucking chance that at-bat.

  68. forensic says:

Wow Granderson, that was even worse than your usual terrible AB’s.

  69. Rich says:

Brian Matusz and Tommy Hunter are two examples why a relief pitcher should never win the Cy Young award

  70. Nathan says:

    Granderson is MIA.

There shouldn’t be any Granderson or Cano debate anymore.

  71. David Love III says:

this is why you dont PR Gardy

  72. Athenian says:

    Atta boy Grandy.

  73. Hummingbird S. says:

a lot of pitches down the middle.. none being hit hard

  74. Dan says:

    Yankees getting embarassed, what’s new

  75. Matt says:

Angel Hernandez is probably going to win the Orioles the game.

The 1-1 pitch on Nunez, one of the worst calls of the entire season, forced him to swing at a pitch that he couldn’t hit to not get the run in for that at bat.

Now, he calls out Martin in a spot in which he might have to throw him a good pitch to hit on 3-2.

This is disgraceful. Hopefully the Yankees make them pay anyway, but it’s a lot less likely when the zone is this nuts.

  76. sciota says:

Why not PH for Nunez here ?

  77. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

    That a strike to Angel?

  78. Bo Knows says:

    surprised that wasn’t a strike

  79. The Real Greg says:

Well we did what we came here to do. Oriole magic and crappy umpiring prevailed in one of the 2 games.

  80. TampaYankee says:

I don’t know what is uglier, watching these Yankee hitters and the strike zone, or the pink crap all over the Jets-Texans game.

    • captain kiwi says:

… the ribbons supporting cancer patients?

      • TampaYankee says:

The pink accessories everywhere. Shoes, towels, hats, etc. It’s ugly, and it’s just a marketing ploy to gain female fans. It isn’t cancer patients, I’d prefer a general cancer awareness, not the specific pinkwashing.

  81. Well, gonna have to do it against Johnson again.

Figures the Orioles are in position to win a one-run game. #OriolesMagic is an insane force.

  82. Hummingbird S. says:

    leadoff single, can’t even advance

  83. BigBlueAL says:

Leadoff single followed by a K, K and popup to 1B.

  84. Belphegor says:

    Angel Hernandez = Twat

  85. WhittakerWalt says:

    Fucking vomit.

  86. Knoxvillain says:

Perfect set up for the 9th. An A-Rod strike out to end it. Pathetic game tonight. I can’t see how this team is going to surivive against the Tigers if they continue to hit like blind children with polio.

  87. Athenian says:

    Unbelievable.

  88. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Hold them at 3 and hope we can get to Johnson’s bowling ball again. If we come out of here 1-1 it’s not the worst thing in the world.

  89. Chilango Adoptivo says:

Looks like I missed the mega RISPFAIL. Swish, ARod and Grandy right?

  90. Adam says:

    Wow more Pettite.

  91. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

I fucking hate Apple commercials, some of them are just slaps in the face to common sense.

  92. Matt says:

    W- Hernandez, A

You can’t make this stuff up. The Orioles do not deserve to win this game. The whole game changed when he blew that call on Nunez in the biggest AB of the game.

    • Knoxvillain says:

Hernandez sucks fat wang. But the Yankees blew it. They had chance after chance. If the O’s win, it’s because the Yankees let them. The Yankees offense is simply bad. When they are needed the most, only their .210 hitting catcher shows up. That’s a problem. And that’s why the 2012 Yankees are another in and out playoff team.

      • Matt says:

Umm, the reason they blew it was that they had to swing at pitches 4 inches off the plate inside in the 4th inning.

Nunez took the exact same pitch for a ball earlier in the at bat without even a flinch. Once he called the 1-1 a strike, he was forced to swing at a pitch that was impossible to hit. He actually made decent contact on it, but got jammed because it was way inside.

Jeter made his out in the 4th inning on another ball inside that he was forced to swing at because of the zone.

Martin called out on a pitch 3 inches off the plate inside in the 8th. What is he supposed to fucking do?

You can’t do anything when you’re up there getting called out on garbage pitches at bat after at bat. These guys aren’t going to groove meatballs all night. When you grind out an at bat and work a count like that, a missed call is devastating.

  93. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Pettitte still?
Saving the pen for the off day?

  94. jay says:

For the record, I am in full support of pinch-hitting for A-Rod in the 9th. It’s not going to happen, but I fully believe both Chavez and Ibanez are more likely to get a hit, especially an extra-base hit.

  95. Ace says:

Let’s not waste this gem by Andy. Win this in the ninth.

  96. Souter Fell says:

    was that really necessary?

  97. wow says:

    #folding #embarrassing

  98. captain kiwi says:

why is andy still out? nothing against him, but holy shit joe. off day tomorrow.

  99. handtius says:

glad i wasn’t around all night. nothing but negativity round here. didn’t we knock around their closer last night. bet you’d all be walking out the gate by now. they’ll get em in the 9th!

  100. thekid says:

Why the fuck did Andy even start the inning?

  101. Mick taylor says:

To you how pathetic swisher is in the clutch I submitted my comment that he choked before he flies out that was the ballgame swisher cannot hit under pressure I would play Gardner instead and girardi is an idiot why is petite starting the 8th?

  102. pistol pete says:

    Can’t can’t get a big hit.

  103. King George says:

For those keeping score at home, Granderson is 1-for-7, Swisher is 1-for-7, and A-Rod is 1-for-8 through 2 games thus far.

  104. RkyMtnYank says:

Holy shit, who was it that called Andy getting pulled after a single and one batter to start the inning?

  105. oriole killer says:

Joe, in typical Joe style, goes to David Robertson at least one batter too late.

  106. stuart a says:

don’t worry arod is up in the top of the 9th. he has 1 hit and he hit the ball to the outfield once in the series. i predict a 3 run homer from the great arod.

the nunez pop out with the bases loaded and 1 out is a killer…

  107. yanks says:

just an absolutely pathetic showing from the offense tonight

  108. Electric nunez says:

    Well the Jets lost
Good news is they covered for those of us that gamble

  109. Dan says:

Somehow I don’t feel so great about going home now.

    • Adam says:

Why? Even if they lose this game, they have three at home with CC and Kuroda pitching two of those. I like the Yanks’ chances if they don’t come back.

  110. Knoxvillain says:

    Wednesday’s line-up

    Jeter SS
    Ichiro LF
    Cano 2B
    Chavez 3B
    Martin C
    Ibanez DH
    Tex 1B
    Granderson CF
    Gardner RF

I don’t care how stupid it seems. A-Rod and Swisher aren’t starters in the postseason. Salary wise, yes. But performance wise, they are terrible.

  111. Mick taylor says:

I would play Gardner instead of swisher Wednesday if he is healthy.

  112. BigBlueAL says:

For those saying they have no expectations of the Yankees making the World Series I disagree big time. A World Series birth is right there for the Yankees. Having to face the Orioles in the ALDS and most likely the 88 win Tigers in the ALCS is as easy a path to the World Series as they couldve possibly hoped for (plus they have homefield advantage). Not at least making the World Series this year will be a pretty big disappointment.

    • jjyank says:

I want the Yankees to win the WS every year…but this is bullshit. Nothing is a “birth right”.

      • BigBlueAL says:

Its bullshit to think that the Yankees should make the WS this year now that Texas is out of the picture and they are clearly the best team in the AL remaining?? There are people here who dont think the Yankees are good enough to make the World Series this year, now thats bullshit.

        • Robinson Tilapia says:

They’re more than good enough. You’re saying it’s easy, or easier, though, and I certainly don’t buy that. It’s always a dogfight.

      • forensic says:

He didn’t say it’s a birth right. He was saying a birth (berth) is right there for the taking.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

There is no such thing as an easy path to the World Series. Ever.

      • BigBlueAL says:

Not easy at all. I dont care if it takes them the full 12 games to do so either. Just for people to think this team isnt good enough to make the World Series this year is insane especially considering the teams they have to get by in the AL.

  113. Get Phelps Up says:

Brett Gardner is the second coming of Willie Mays.

  114. Matt says:

I’m stunned that didn’t hit the bag and bound away from Teixeira. That’s the way things seem to go for this overrated Orioles team, which gets nearly every break imaginable.

  115. Adam says:

Some peeps here wouldn’t be happy short of an 11-0 postseason. It ain’t happening.

  116. Hans Moleman says:

Would a Robbie dive gotten that ball?

  117. TampaYankee says:

I’m with the others. I want Chavez in there. I’m done with A-Rod.

I’m annoyed with Swisher right now, but I still hold a slight glimmer of hope he can do something. With A-Rod I have no hope.

  118. Adam says:

    We get it done here.

  119. Jeter-Ichiro-ARod

    Time to pound Johnson again.

  120. Mike N says:

    Please score some fucking runs!

  121. Joe F says:

    Two runs please.

  122. Hummingbird S. says:

last chance, unfortunately A-Rod is due up third in the inning.

  123. Robinson Tilapia says:

    Win this fucker!

  124. TampaYankee says:

Would Joe pinch hit for A-Rod?

  125. Ethan says:

Let’s put this absurd stat of the Os leading after the 7th. I’m so sick of hearing about it. Let’s win this game!

  126. Dan says:

Just saw the replay of the single that put them up 3-1. Cano needs to dive. Plain and simple. he might not throw the guy out. But the guy from second won’t score. Unacceptable.

That ball is easily within his range.

  127. Mick taylor says:

As bad as arod is at least he got a hit swisher twice left men in scoring positions and grandy cost Andy those two runs when he did not catch a catchable ballby andino

  128. And how do you greet a pitcher you torched the previous night?

    One pitch, one out.

    Unreal.

  129. Electric nunez says:

Wow jeter has a hot date huh

  130. oriole killer says:

    TAKE A FUCKING PITCH JETER

  131. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

JESUS CHRIST DEREK TAKE A GOD DAMNED PITCH

  132. Hummingbird S. says:

sure, why not ground out weakly on the first pitch… pathetic as usual

  133. Joe F says:

Ichiro, now’s the time for that bp power.

    Okay, thanks.

  134. Ethan says:

    These announcers are giddy!

  135. Joe F says:

WHY DIDN’T ALEX GET JETER A HIT?! WTF?

  136. Athenian says:

Good job Jeter. Granderson must have given you tips.

  137. Hummingbird S. says:

all up to the big choker, might as well be over

  138. Knoxvillain says:

Here we go, A-Roid. It’s down to you.

    Strike out? Yep.

  139. Ace says:

Final out comes down to Alex. Always does. The guy can’t catch a break. Good thing he has more money than God.

  140. Joe F says:

    haha

That thing is broken then. It’s not that loud.

  141. pistol pete says:

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse but why can’t Girardi find a way to bat Cano 3rd everyday. He may end this game in the on deck circle with his last at bat an intential walk.

  142. Get Phelps Up says:

They’re so eager to slobber over the O’s fans.

  143. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Might as well swing at that pitch 1-0, Hernandez has been calling it a strike all night

  144. Athenian says:

Well 2012 was a good run. Resign everyone.

  145. wow says:

seems like everyone’s figured A-rod out. Low and inside. Every time.

  146. Joe F says:

    Fucking swung at balls.

  147. Matt says:

How many times is A-Rod going to swing at the exact same pitch in the exact same spot? Last night, tonight. Make the adjustment. If it starts inside, it’s a BALL.

    • Mike Axisa says:

It doesn’t start inside. Baseball is harder than you seem to think it is.

      • Hummingbird S. says:

Especially when the hitter is not very good at it without PEDs.

        • captain kiwi says:

yankees just kicked their own legs out from under themselves tonight. totally winnable, even in spite of dirtbag hernandez behind the plate. you still couldn’t pay me to bet on the o’s taking this series. 1-1, with 3 to play at home. wouldn’t have it any other way.

          except for 2-0 going home.

either way, fuck you detractors. it’s shitty enough losing, we don’t need your naysaying compounding a crappy loss. have problems with 1/3 of the lineup?

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMt0lhnlLL4

      • Matt says:

When he throws the sinker inside, it is going to continue breaking inside. If you see it start over the inner half, it is going to end up a ball. That is not a hard adjustment to make. Especially when you just saw the guy last night and he got you out in the exact same way.

Using the argument that “baseball is hard” is about as pathetic as it gets. It basically shows that you have no argument, so you instead have to resort to trying to discredit the person instead of his argument.

  148. JLC 776 says:

Well, before everybody starts jumping off of buildings and coming up with elaborate reasons why we’re doomed… we split the road series and go back to the Bronx.

See you there Wednesday and hope for better!

  149. Effthisnoise says:

Yankee stadium better be ths effing loud on wednesday and no empty ass seats behind home plate

    • RkyMtnYank says:

I’ll bet it will be the same as it has since the new stadium opened, at least 50% of the recliners behind home plate will be empty in any given camera shot.

  150. This is a 3-2 tease, making us think Robbie may come to the plate.

  151. Knoxvillain says:

    What a surprise.

  152. Hummingbird S. says:

    seriously, FUCK AROD..

  153. Ace says:

    Like clockwork. Inexplicable.

  154. pistol pete says:

How fucking long can ARod bat 3rd, this is getting ridiculous.

    • Knoxvillain says:

He will for every game, too. Girardi is just a complete tool. I hope he gets paralyzed and can’t manage again.

  155. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

    Lineup for Game 3-

    Ichiro
    Jeter
    Cano
    Teixera
    Ibanez
    Martin
    Granderson
    A-Rod
    Swisher

    • stuart a says:

they could not do that it would hurt arods feelings!!!!!!!

lucky the fat and stupid steinbrenner signed this piece of crap for about $80 mill or more then anyone else would have, shrewd move fat, crew cut steinny.

cashman said walk but the moron signed him..

arod is a joke, the guy literally hits like a avg. 2b, and they bat him 3rd…

the hat tipping bs will be out shortly.

grandy striking out on a ball on the ground, that never happens…

swisher being swihser, no way, the guy is clutch…

jeter first pitch nonense in the 9th, not a shock…

they may lose to this bunch of misfits if they cannot get a hit when it matters.

  156. Electric nunez says:

Did the yankees throw this game?

  157. Yup.

Fucking atrocious performance tonight. Totally let a winnable game slip away. Wouldn’t be shocked at all if this costs them in the end.

  158. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Fucking furious with ARod. He’s just utterly useless now.

  159. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    No freaking chance.

I know ARod makes a ton of money and used to be elite, but at some point they have to accept reality and manage to give themselves the best chance to win the game.

  160. Get Phelps Up says:

I look forward to the next playoff game at Camden Yards in 15 years.

  161. angry face says:

fuck you arod you worthless strike out machine, fuck you ichiro you worthless ground ball machine, and fuck you jeter you piece of shit defensive player and your swinging on every fucking first pitch.

  162. wow says:

they had their chances. They blew it in typical 2012 Yankees fashion.

Am I the only one who dreads whenever Granderson and A-rod are up?

  163. Chilango Adoptivo says:

Frustrasting as hell watching this team. Not so much that they lose, but HOW they lose. All that wasted money on post season fuckups. What a joke.

  164. stuart a says:

arod struck out, SHOCKING. no way.

he is ready to rock n roll he is the 3rd hitter in the lineup.

he cannot hit a inside pitch if they put it on a platter.

    yankee offense SUCKED……

    bullcrap….

  165. BigBlueAL says:

For the love of God bat Cano 3rd for the rest of the playoffs.

  166. Robinson Tilapia says:

    Argh.

Well that was just the equivalent of showing up to debate your rival, staring at the floor for 90 minutes, and suddenly breathing new life into them.

I’ll bet on 2 out of 3 at the stadium, sure, but this would have been GREAT go have tonight.

By the way, Baltimore fans, your city sucks. All you have is a fucking aquarium.

  167. Captain Gift Basket says:

RISP, RISP, RISP…this team is God awful. That will be their downfall this postseason.

  168. Matt says:

Girardi is an idiot. Plain and simple.

Your best hitter should not be batting 4th, behind one of your coldest. Period. That is idiocy at its finest, and lineup construction matters a LOT in the postseason because you may never get Cano a chance if he is batting behind A-Rod.

Not only that, but they are IBB Cano when A-Rod fails and he never even gets the chance when he does come up. You can’t have one of your worst hitters batting behind 2 guys who are consistently getting on base.

Bottom line is that the Yankees probably win this game if not for Angel Hernandez though. Nunez was taking some great hacks at Chen, and even did when he made the out. The problem is that he had to swing at a pitch that is impossible for anyone to hit. If that pitch is out over the plate, Nunez probably hits a bases clearing double.

    • SammySosasBleachingCream says:

This might be the first time I’ve ever heard someone say your best hitter is being wasted batting cleanup.

      • Hummingbird S. says:

We do want our best hitter to have more ABs. Hitting him cleanup did not accomplish that. That logic is not very hard to understand.

      • Matt says:

You are batting him cleanup behind one of the coldest hitters in your lineup. What do you not understand?

Your best hitter is not coming to the plate with a chance to do damage because the guy in front of him is killing rallies. Also, they have the opportunity to walk Cano because A-Rod is failing so miserably. You might hesitate to IBB Cano with 1 out when you might open up a big inning, but not as much with 2.

Cano has no protection anyway because the middle of the order besides him is cold. Bat him behind your hottest table setters, and give him a chance to bat with runners on base.

    • jjsyanks91 says:

So wouldnt they just have walked cano with 2 outs right now if arod is so called?

    • Rich says:

So how is Angel Hernandez to blame. They had two chances to score and they did, we had at least five and didn’t.

      • Matt says:

Because they probably would have scored if Nunez was not screwed out of his at bat in the 4th inning.

What do you not get? Did you even watch the at bat? He squared up every pitch he got from Chen, including the pitch he popped out on. The pitch he popped out on though was 4 inches off the plate inside and jammed him… because he had to swing at that pitch after the umpire called a bullshit strike on it earlier in the AB.

He made an out on the exact same pitch that was called a strike earlier in the AB in a 2-strike count. It was a pitch that nobody could possibly hit. NOBODY. Angel Hernandez forced him to swing at it by blowing the call, and in a 2-1 count instead, it could have been a totally different at bat.

  169. jjsyanks91 says:

The yankees split there gms on the road that’s what they were supposed to do.

    • Dan says:

Bullshit. They had a chance to put their foot on the Orioles throat and they fucked up. When were we gonna get a better matchup than Pettite Chen? We had em on the ropes!

      • Rich says:

How about Kuroda versus Gonzalez Wednesday? I like that matchup

        • Matt says:

You do realize Gonzalez has been better than Kuroda this year, and a lot better lately?

They flat out blew a chance to bury Baltimore tonight. Stop sugarcoating it. They blew it. Period.

10 LOB and lost by 1 run. Same story as always.

          • Rich says:

Ok, I rather have a dude that pitched well all year than a flash in the pan. Plus, Kuroda has been good in the playoffs while this guy will pitch his first game. Lets calm down. The Yankees weren’t gonna win every playoff game. The Orioles should have scored an extra run anyway but Hardy was an idiot.

          • jjsyanks91 says:

Gonzalez has a higher fip, whip and slightly lower era.

            • Matt says:

Stats like FIP are irrelevant when the sample size is small.

Gonzalez has been outpitching Kuroda, and especially lately. This is hardly a slam dunk. By losing tonight, they turned this into a series again.

They didn’t take care of business in a very winnable game, and now they will probably pay for it by having this series drag out a lot longer.

            • Matt says:

By small sample size, I’m referring to the game coming up. It doesn’t matter if he gets lucky or not over an entire season because all that matters is whether he gets lucky or not in one game.

Kuroda has not been pitching as well lately, while Gonzalez has been hot. It’s going to be tough now, even with the home games. When you have a chance to take control of the series like they did tonight, and you lose by 1 run while stranding 10, you blew it very badly.

      • jjsyanks91 says:

when will we get a better matchup than Pettite Chen? On wensday at no point in this series will the O’s have a pitching advantage especially when you factor the lineups they should have won, but it’s not a death sentance.

  170. forensic says:

    Groundout, groundout, K.

Who says you can’t predict baseball?

  171. Dan says:

Wow guys, Wei Yin Chen must be the reincarnation of CY YOUNG!

  172. Psy says:

    Open Gangnam Style!

  173. Ethan says:

This loss is on the offense and defense. Andy was great. Stranding runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs is unacceptable. Score that run and it’d be a different game.

  174. Hummingbird S. says:

time to go with the hot hand… Move Cano to third, Teix to 4th and A-Rod down to 7th or 8th.

  175. BigBlueAL says:

Just pray to Mo the season isnt on the line when Hughes starts on Thursday.

  176. Dan says:

They take a 1 run lead in the fucking third inning with two outs and nobody on and then don’t fucking relinquish. That is the definition of insane.

  177. wow says:

Also, that third run scored because Cano, once again, decides he’s above diving for balls in the infield.

  178. ANSKY says:

I love Arod, I really do, but how come we can bat a guy with 42 HRs in the seventh spot but we can’t lower the corpse of Arod in the order?

  179. James A says:

Game 3 Lineup: Jeter, Ichiro, Cano, Tex, A-Rod, Swish, Ibanez, Granderson, Martin

  180. Ethan says:

I’m pretty sick of seeing Arod batting 3rd. Nonexistent 3 and 5 batters makes it tough to score runs, especially when you have RISPfail.

  181. Ace says:

Can you guys imagine how tempting PEDs must be even for guys like ARod? You’re getting older, ability is rapidly declining and there is something accessible (and illegal) that can turn everything around in the short-term. Not sure how these guys can resist.

  182. Ethan says:

Also: to everyone that is going to the games at the stadium please be super loud. I really want to hear about how loud of a crowd it is there. Fuck TBS is atrocious. I actually think i’d take fox over them.

  183. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

If Swisher doesn’t turn this postseason around I wouldn’t offer him one penny in the offseason. How many horrendous playoffs can you have before we can stop using small sample size as an excuse? You would think one year he would come up big. Just one! Even A-Rod managed to do that in 09.

    • stuart a says:

swisher is not coming back regardless. he is a nice player but a complimentary player…who is going to be 32, getting slower, etc..

arod hit 2 balls hard basically to Ss and 2b.. he use to hit the ball hard in the alley..

imagine 5 more years of this……….the deniers are not able to comprehend what a anchor this piece of shit is on the team..

swing the bat well, arod; 3 announcers said it already, he hit the ball hard on the infield…..

  184. goterpsgo says:

As frustrating as it was to watch the game, it was absolutely infuriating to listen to Ripken and those other bozo announcers not even hiding their favoritism for BAL or their disdain for NYY. They’re totally giddy seeing the 0′s win.

And yes the lineup sucked ass again – the epitome of RISPFAIL.

  185. stuart a says:

girardi said arod squared up to balls today. that may be true but they both were basically hit in the infield.

square the ball up and hit it to the warning track.

girardi is a moron.. adjust the lineup, arod fuckin sucks but I have been saying that all year and all you morons say i am a hater.

hit the piece of crap 7th…………..

  186. CJ says:

Here we go again!!! 1-60 when trailing after 8 innings!! Left runners stranded in scoring position 4 times tonight as usual!!

  187. ClayDavis says:

    Angel Hernandez

  188. stuart a says:

Pettitte was great. he has been big for years….

arod, grandy, swisher, etc.. this guys have no ability to get big hits,,,

i thinks swisher wet his diaper and arod the guy is a joke…you cannot hit a fastball/cutter inside so why even swing you loser…….

  189. Ethan says:

Baseball needs a commissioner with some balls. Umps need evaluation. The strike zone was one of the worst i’ve seen lately and this is the playoffs! Time to get some of the playoffs off TBS too, those guys were god awful. I’d take fox over them I think (that’s really saying something because i loath fox).

The game is on MLB Network on Weds right? Is that the same announcers?

    • stuart a says:

zone was not bad. he missed multiple calls on both teams. russel martin struck out looking on a ball but he got the call on a pitch or 2…

the yankee hitters cannot hit with RISP, it has been that way all year unless you have not seen my 300 posts on this subject……….

  190. Chilango Adoptivo says:

Girardi will stick with ARod Swisher and Granderson right through the crash and burn. Then make the same postgame excuses as always. This is getting old fast. Another nice 95 win season followd by a choke to a better team with less than half the payroll.

    • stuart a says:

if they lose the series and Girardi does not try anything else , fire his ass…

arod is hitting 3rd…..he fuckin sucks..palin and simple… 32 extra base hits in 468 ab’s……………….

      that is horrible for a 3/4 hitter…

  191. captain kiwi says:

saying this again (because it was a reply-fail earlier and because i’m a touch drunk and the debbie downers are making this night suckier)

yankees just kicked their own legs out from under themselves tonight. totally winnable, even in spite of dirtbag hernandez behind the plate. you still couldn’t pay me to bet on the o’s taking this series.

    • Rich says:

Couldn’t agree more. These people need to calm down. Hell even the 98 Yankees lost playoff games. We have the next three at home. We got Kuroda pitching tomorrow and in case Hughes spits the bit, we got CC going in game five.

  192. WhittakerWalt says:

It’s official. I want ARod to get back on the juice.

  193. stuart a says:

baltimore threw 160 pitches, yanks 111 and the O’s won.

RISP fail, almost every game the yanks lose you can simply say RISP fail caused it and you are right………

2 for 8 with RISP and 1 was the granderson single that Tex did not score… Same old story….

  194. King George says:

Admittedly, I’m down on Alex, Swisher, and Grandy right now. But for those saying two games is a small sample size, we are 40% of the way through this series and they are batting a collective 2-for-22 or so. At what point do we shorten the leash? W need to ride the hot hands or this will get ugly. Splitting Baltimore’s 2 home games is huge, but if we want to get to the ALCS we need production from our top part of the lineup. And it appears many people are re-igniting their frustrations with Swisher and A-Rod specifically not pulling their weight in the postseason.
