Game 161: Rain drops and division titles

(Photo via CookAndSonBats.MLBlogs.com)

The Yankees can clinch the AL East crown tonight, but they’ll need some help. The postseason eliminated Rays will first need to beat the Orioles again, and then Mother Nature will have to chill out with all this rain. It hasn’t been pouring in New York, but it’s been raining on-and-off since about noon and the forecast says it’ll stop sometime Thursday morning. With two important games to play between now and then, expect the Yankees and Red Sox to wait this one out as long as possible. Here’s the starting nine…

SS Derek Jeter
RF Nick Swisher
3B Alex Rodriguez
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
Russell Martin
CF Curtis Granderson
DH Eduardo Nunez
LF Ichiro Suzuki

RHP David Phelps

Tonight’s game is schedule to start a little after 7pm ET, but who knows with the weather. The game can be seen on YES.

  2. John says:

Kick ass. Pop champagne. And get some O’s.

  3. The Real Greg says:

I hope this moment isn’t too big for Phelps. He has shown nerves on a few occasions this season.

So Pedroia wants to change the culture? Throw a running 2 seam fastball in on his hands and we’ll see if he’s singing the same tune.

  4. VT Yankee Fan says:

Weather radar looks OK after 7:15.

  5. Get Phelps Up says:

I hope Nunez DHing means Jones wont make the playoff roster.

  6. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

This is the right lineup and the right starting pitcher. Joe is finally making the right moves. Nunez and Phelps > Jones and Nova. Joe is showing some progress.

  7. Buck Showalter says:

Ellsbury and Pedroia back in the lineup. Bobby must have gotten my voicemail.

    • The Real Greg says:

Buck and Bobby probably don’t like each other. Bobby beat Buck in the 1999 NLDS which led to Buck getting kicked out of Arizona

  8. Mike says:

They’ll probably play, but who in MLB decides rainouts/postponements ? I’ve heard mixed results on that. Some say the home team, some say the crew chief umpire, some say MLB front office, etc.

    • Al santo says:

Home team until first pitch is thrown. Then umpires decide about rain delays or postponements

      • Mike says:

Is that throughout the whole year? Because I think I heard if it’s the 2nd half of the year or if it’s a team’s last trip to that stadium, then MLB decides it.

  9. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Hey guys is this thing starting on time?

  10. Joe F says:

Lets clinch. Even though I’m going tomorrow, I don’t mind because I have playoff tickets. But I need us to clinch so I can get them!

  11. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Hey Tom Riddle (and others), I wanted to finish that conversation yesterday about the Sox starting Zach Stewart.

Did Valentine or anyone on the Sox actually acknowledge that they wanted to line up Buchholz against the Yanks? It’s one thing to play hard to play the spoiler, but it seems kind of ridiculous to publicly acknowledge that you’re trying to help one team and hurt another.

(Of course, it’s hilarious that Buchholz ended up having an even worse start than Stewart.)

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

I don’t know if he came out and said it, however what other reason would he have?

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Yeah, I mean I don’t see another reason, but I’ve never heard of a team explicitly trying to spoil only one team’s playoff run at the expense of spoiling another’s. Usually teams just try hard, they don’t rearrange their pitchers to be favorable to a particular team, especially taking the step of starting a shitty pitcher who has no reason to be in their rotation.

    • jjyank says:

I don’t know, but I really fucking hope so.

Also, who the hell is Tom Middle?

    • jjyank says:

No idea, but I sure hope so.

Also, who the hell is Tom Riddle?

  12. Zack says:

I do have some reservations about Phelps but at this point Nova has shown he can’t be trusted.
Let’s go out there and clinch tonight!

  13. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Playing through a broken finger when you’re in last place is just stupid. You aren’t setting any examples for next year. Nobody will remember it.

  14. The Real Greg says:

    Exactly what I feared

  15. Mike Axisa says:

    Well Nova coulda done that.

    • Preston says:

BUT PHELPS IS A BIG GAME PITCHER!!! I really think there is something physically wrong with Nova and that’s why they went with Phelps. Hopefully he settles down, and can gie us a QS, and hopefully Lester can suck like he has the rest of the season.

  16. Mike says:

    Get in Nova now!! /sarcasm

  17. Karl Krawfid says:

    More 2 strike fastballs please.

  18. Captain_Turbo says:

    Pull Phelps now!

  19. Rocky Road Redemption says:

  20. The Real Greg says:

He’s shown it before this year to cower in big spots.

  21. WhittakerWalt says:

See, all you “get Phelps in the rotation” guys? Phelps ain’t all that.

  22. Zack says:

Not a good start at all.

  23. VT Yankee Fan says:

Sterling is talking about Lester like he is Cy Young. He’s given up 3 or more runs in his last 7 games.

  24. The Troll says:

8 Lester shut-out innings. Anyone? Somebody? Any takers anywhere? I’ve got 8 innings of a dominant Lester here hot off the bench!

  25. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Still the right choice, over the past two months and 2012 period, Phelps > Nova. Nova has looked awful, and two runs is a small margin. Yanks got this,

  26. Captain_Turbo says:

Jeez, how did the second run score? I missed it.

  27. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Lester will struggle. Last time we faced him he walked everybody and we let him off the hook. That won’t happen this time.

  28. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    Pasta diving Troll.

  29. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Wow, the stadium looks empty. I know it’s raining, but with the division race on the line?

  30. Get Phelps Up says:

  31. WhittakerWalt says:

    Another non-RBI hit. This team.

  32. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

So many hits w/ RISP with no runs. Boooo!

  33. Chilango says:

    Get.Lester.NOW. Patience

  34. WhittakerWalt says:

    Fucking Tex.

  35. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    DFA Teix.

  36. Budweiser and popeyes chichen says:

    Tex need better than that.

  37. Chilango says:

    Tex WRISP/2out 52 AB .130/.266

  38. BigBlueAL says:

Glad the hottest/best hitter on the team is batting 5th tonight.

  39. Thud says:

  40. stuart a says:

another dominating AB by Arod.. does he know they throw the ball inside to him? He is a joke…If the mental case does zilch in the playoffs the fans should be all over him…

tex looks like he is in perfect form with the GIDP…

  41. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Anyone have a way to look up the rate the Yankees get hits w/RISP without scoring a run compared to the league average? I’m guessing it’s about the same despite what a lot of people say, but I don’t know how to find that stat.

  42. Captain_Turbo says:

It’s okay, they’re going to score 9 runs next inning.

  43. Chilango says:

Let’s go Dave it’s a AAA lineup. Attack.

  44. Budweiser and popeyes chichen says:

    Arod old

  45. Rocky Road Redemption says:

Pedro “Ty Cobb” Ciriaco at it again.

  46. Chip says:

    I hate this guy

  47. Mike says:

If Ibanez or Jones was out there, that’s a double

  48. Budweiser and popeyes chichen says:

Anyone else want to hit ciriaco with a baseball bat?

  49. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Phelps has settled down nicely. These guys have to make Lester pay. He walked 7 men last time he faced us and we still managed to lose. Cano, Nunez and Ichiro should be our spark tonight.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

By the end of the night, you’re going make some of us root for Phelps to be mauled by tigers if you keep this up.

  50. Kramerica Industries says:

I’m not sure I care for this shitty beginning of the game for Phelps.

  51. Captain_Turbo says:

    Robbie dinger. Calling it.

  52. Rocky Road Redemption says:

I’m leaving the blog…unless we’re winning it will be quite unpleasant.

  53. Hugh says:

Watching on MLB Gameday. Seems like the strike zone is all over the place…

  54. teddy says:

if cano was batting 4th, yanks have a run

  55. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

To be fair, it’s hard for giraffes to bend all the way down to the ground with their long necks.

  56. The Troll says:

Why TF is Cano batting 5th? Same goes for Ichiro at 9 . . . Why would you tamper with what was working? I no gets.

    • Captain_Turbo says:

Welcome to the world of Joey Binders…

      • The Troll says:

It goes beyond Joey Binders, it has to. It’s just pure idiocy. Take away ABs from two of the hottest hitters on your team. Yeah, that’s a great idea! All because of an unproven Teixera? That’s serious horse shit.

        • Chip says:

You talk like Tex is some AAAA shlub and that Ichiro is Ichiro! against lefties. I understand the whole “he’s hot” thing but in reality Lester has been tough on lefties this year and righties have destroyed him so you might as well load up righties and try to get some rallies going against him.

        • Captain_Turbo says:

I’m guessing it’s the matchups… I think they said Cano was 0 for 10 against Lester (did I hear that right?)… not sure about Suzuki though.

        • Robinson Tilapia says:

Recovering from injury. Not unproven…..unless we’re talking Kaneoka Texeira here.

  57. Chilango says:

Granderson swings at ball 4 and winds up on 3d. Get him IN

  58. Kramerica Industries says:

    Well, score this run.

  59. Cy Pettitte says:

    Nunie making things happen!

  60. Get Phelps Up says:

I hope Peter Gammons was watching that.

  61. jjyank says:

I’ll take it. Thanks, Sox SS of the future.

  62. Kramerica Industries says:

And there is that run. That was a hot-shot tough play. Well done Eduardo.

  63. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Nunie just makes things happen with his bat. Now watch him steal 2nd. What a ballplayer.

  64. Robinson Tilapia says:

    Jose Iglesias, everyone.

  65. Chilango says:

Stonefingers gets a base hit not an E? wow

  66. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

King Eduardo: everything he touches turns to Error.

  67. Captain_Turbo says:

    I’ll take it.

  68. Mike N says:

Hopefully Phelps will stay settled in.

  69. Austin Aunelowitzky says:

Oooh, down early. How does Phelpsy look?

    • Chip says:

Average against the big leaguers, dominant against the minor leaguers

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

Better. Classic couple of doubles to start off the game which wound up scoring. Seems to have very much settled down since.

I’ve defended better pitchers than David Phelps for rough first innings, so it’d be hypocritical to get on him too much. Don’t dig a deeper hole and hope the Yanks hit Lester tonight.

  70. jjyank says:

  71. WhittakerWalt says:

Does anyone besides John Sterling call it “A-B-C ball?” Or is that just one of his annoying things, like “grounds rule double?”

  72. Kramerica Industries says:

2nd time through beginning this inning.

    Score some more runs.

  73. Captain_Turbo says:

Just like that Phelps. Four more of those.

  74. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

And those predicting doom for Phelpsy can breathe easy. He’s in a groove now. If the offense can put a couple more on the board this is in the bag.

  75. Austin Aunelowitzky says:

Need the Yanks to win tonight and O’s lose. I can’t miss the debate tomorrow night!

  76. Cy Pettitte says:

past a diving Ciriaco? is that even possible?

    and fucking Chris Davis.

  77. Kramerica Industries says:

Chris Davis has homered now in six straight games.

  78. Captain_Turbo says:

    O’s scored one. Stupid birds…

  79. Get Phelps Up says:

I’m worried about Swish hitting too much, you guys.

  80. Chilango says:

    Swish is on fire.

  81. Cy Pettitte says:

    Arod is crushing Lester.

  82. Chilango says:

    ARod is 2-2 lol

  83. Karl Krawfid says:

Steal on the leg kick this time A-Rod.

  84. Kramerica Industries says:

No double plays this time, Tex.

  85. Mike N says:

Why the fuck is that asshole Pedroia wearing eyeblack at night?

  86. Bartolo's Colon says:

i really hate tex right now

  87. Karl Krawfid says:

  88. Cy Pettitte says:

this is like some kind of sick joke with Teix.

  89. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Joe G’s lineup moves are working out nicely.

  90. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Teixera is a rally killer tonight.

  91. Kramerica Industries says:

    Four outs for Tex tonight.

  92. BigBlueAL says:

I want to say again, great job by Girardi having Cano bat 5th. Brilliant stuff.

  93. Hugh says:

You have got to be kidding me.

  94. Hugh says:

You have got to be kidding me.

  95. Bartolo's Colon says:

way to bat cano 5th, how about arod is 2-2 with risp and no rbi’s

  96. teddy says:

fire giradri, batting teix 4th pathetic

  97. Chip says:

Ugh, Tex is not rewarding the faith right now

  98. Beerandchicken says:

And why again has Joe the genius have Tex in the 4 hole?

    • Nice Scheister of Doom says:

      Da Binda!!11!!1

    • Hugh says:

Tex at 4 is a perfectly reasonable decision by the manager. Don’t blame him for a player’s (grotesque, abysmal, possibly season-ending) mistakes.

      • The Troll says:

When all the contributing factors are taken into consideration, it’s nearly 100% clear that Tex hitting clean-up is NOT the right move. I’d actually say that it’s not very reasonable whatsoever.

  99. Captain_Turbo says:

We’re going to rally this inning. I feel it in my bones… no wait, that’s gin.

  100. Terry Bollea says:

Really Tex? Two GIDPs? And really, Joe? Putting a player one day back from a 30-day injury in the 4 spot, and the hottest hitter on the team in the 5? Fucking idiot.

  101. mt says:

I hope I am wrong but this is looking like a massive RISPFAIL game where if we do get a hit with RISP they of course don’t score a run.

I wish Arod could make solid contact at least once.

  102. Chilango says:

Tex bats 4th because he hit a HR last night? Or is he like .800 against Lester or what

  103. Budweiser and popeyes chichen says:

    Balt 1
    Tampa 0

  104. Mike N says:

    Ugh, Teix.

  105. Budweiser and popeyes chichen says:

Maybe later they can pinchhit chavez in the 4 hole

  106. Captain_Turbo says:

    Heh, almost fooled Saltamacchiato…

  107. The Troll says:

Now, go ahead and take this with a grain of salt, but fudging the lineup by moving Teixera to 4 spot is inexcusable. Should they lose this game (KNOCK ON WOOD!!!), then the loss lies solely on Girardi’s shoulders. It was a stupid move that should NOT have been enacted. Just ONCE I’d like to see the MT25 bat somewhere towards the bottom of the order . . . . I thought that tonight would’ve been an EXCELLENT opportunity, but NOOOOOOOO, Joey Binders doesn’t DARE listen to the Troll, does he?! Nobody EVER listens to the Troll!!!!!!!!!

    • Captain_Turbo says:

I’m pretty sure the loss will be on the players who failed to perform.

    • Cant believe they killed opie says:

Lester is still a very good pitcher if the sox trade him this winter it would do us a huge favor.

      • The Troll says:

I know Lester’s good. He always puts some form of fear into me when the Yankees face him, but, with that said, Girardi’s decision to slot in Teixera above Cano, Ichiro (and Granderson for that matter) is straight-up stupid. I still honestly believe that it’s because of his paycheck. He earns far too much to bat 7th or lower . . .

  108. Mike N says:

    Loving Phelps right now!

  109. Cy Pettitte says:

still don’t understand how Ciriaco killed the Yankees in so many games.

  110. Bartolo's Colon says:

how in the world has ciriaco hurt us so much, dude swings at anything!

  111. Kramerica Industries says:

    Phelps is settling in.

Once again, time to get some more runs.

  112. Mick taylor says:

Please remind Tex Joe these are not the playoffs so he doesn’t have to choke

    • Bartolo's Colon says:

good to see he’s in playoff form

    • The Troll says:

Hahahahaha. So true. I cannot wait to see what Teixera contributes come playoff time, whether it be 1 game or 15 . . . Having the MT25 back suddenly reminds me of my borderline disdain for him. I expected SOOOO much for him and he’s done nothing but get worse with each passing season.

  113. Jersey Joe says:

C’mon Rays, we need you to channel last year’s magic!

  114. Kramerica Industries says:

Why did Kay even go into the HR-sounding voice of “driven deeeeeeep” shit?

    Obvious foul ball.

  115. teddy says:

and then cano single, yanks be winning if giradri batting him 4th

  116. Cy Pettitte says:

wow was that a terrible AB

  117. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

That was quite a horrible AB Russ.

  118. Chip says:

And here come the, “he would have hit a run in!” comments

    • Mike Axisa says:

Red Sox would have played the defense in the same exact spots and thrown the same exact sequence of pitches with men on the corners with one out as they did leading off an inning!

  119. Cant believe they killed opie says:

    Grandy due

  120. Greg says:

So the Yankees are 3-4 with RISP and they have only 1 run. Amazing.

  121. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Chilango, that link you posted above doesn’t seem to have hits w/RISP without scoring a run. Does anyone know if/where you can find that stat?

  122. Jersey Joe says:

With Gardner back, which is more likely?

    DH: Teixeira
    1B: Swisher
    RF: Ichiro
    LF: Gardner

    DH: Gardner (for rest)
    1B: Teixeira
    RF: Swisher
    LF: Ichiro

    DH: Ibanez
    1B: Teixeira
    RF: Swisher
    LF: Ichiro

  123. Kramerica Industries says:

This is playing out aggravating game right now. Turn that around soon, please.

  124. Captain_Turbo says:

    A bit of weak-contact-itis going around…

  125. Hugh says:

One run on seven hits in four innings is kind of hard to take.

  126. Kramerica Industries says:

Seeing a AAAA schmuck like Miguel Gonzalez continuing to dominate games is extremely annoying.

  127. Athenian says:

Double play Tex.. Good to have him back.

  128. Bartolo's Colon says:

not sure its a testament to phelps kay, just that nova was just about the worst sp in the league this year

  129. Kramerica Industries says:

I was about to say. You do not walk Jose fucken Iglesias.

  130. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

We’ve got two big game pitchers going for us tonight, Dave Phelps and James Shields. Both are doing their jobs but the offenses haven’t showed up. Ichiro needs to be the spark again to start the next inning.

  131. Mike N says:

    Awesome, Phelpsy!

  132. Hall and Nokes says:

  133. Bartolo's Colon says:

for the love of god, score runs now.

  134. VT Yankee Fan says:

I would have signed up for 2 runs thru 5 from Phelps.

  135. Cant believe they killed opie says:

    This is our innning
    Yankee majic coming up.

  136. Get Phelps Up says:

3-1 bunt is pretty dumb, but hey, it worked.

  137. Cy Pettitte says:

Ichiro, teach Gardy how to do that.

  138. dkidd says:

    3-1 count!

  139. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Ichiro can do it all. Need a HR, he can hit 2. Need a bunt, he can lay down a perfect one. Now I’m sure Joe will have Jeter sacrifice.

  140. Cant believe they killed opie says:

    This is our innning
    Yankee magic coming up

  141. Leg-End says:

Looks like that One at Bat dude is coming to the plate shortly if your interested in watching it.

  142. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    Nine run inning please.

  143. your mom says:

    8 hits, 1 run huh?

  144. Cant believe they killed opie says:

    Please steal

  145. Get Phelps Up says:

Ichiro needs to steal with Salty back there.

  146. dkidd says:

    send him, please

  147. The Real Greg says:

And 3-5 with RISP. Think about how illogical the numbers are.

  148. MannyGeee says:

Oh no..l I thought they properly iced and stretched out Lester’s vagina before tonight’s game… For shame

  149. Kramerica Industries says:

Shields throwing a gem so far.

    Score that man some runs.

  150. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Now you see what the element of speed does to a pitcher. It takes him off his game. Ichy, Nunie and Gardy are key players going forward.

  151. dkidd says:

way to change the culture, jon!

  152. Bartolo's Colon says:

better not take any chances with lester, bobby. bring in bucholz, he’s pretty fresh

  153. The Real Greg says:

So in what way do the baseball gods screw with Alex this time?

  154. Cant believe they killed opie says:

    First pitch alex
    Fuck you

  155. MannyGeee says:

RISPfail! Back after a night off yesterday

    • The Real Greg says:

The numbers dont suggest it. 3-7 with RISP is not fail but it is appraoching it.

      • MannyGeee says:

I was being sarcastic, but yeah. Getting close… I always felt this team always had a LOB issue, not specific to RISP… but that was the eye test. No numbers to support.

  156. Chilango says:

Wish Girardi had the balls to sit ARod

  157. Kramerica Industries says:

    Holy shit Tex.

Roll over to short some more.

  158. Mike N says:

    Ugh, Tex.

  159. Cant believe they killed opie says:

    Get chavez up please

  160. RkyMtnYank says:

Well at he couldn’t hit into a double play that time.

  161. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Well at least Robbie gets to hit with nobody on again.

  162. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Joe Girardi is going to cost us this game because he hit his hottest hitter 9th and his 2nd hottest hitter 5th. Unreal. And Phelps is pitching a gem.

  163. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

  164. Austin Aunelowitzky says:

If that was Alex they’d be throwing Reggie bars at him right now.

  165. jon says:

jesus christ hit the ball anywhere other than directly to the shortstop

  166. Cy Pettitte says:

good thing Robbie hasn’t had to face a lefty in an important spot tonight

  167. Leg-End says:

Tex 4th really turned out good hey?

  168. Cuso says:

    C’mon. What the Christ

  169. Cuso says:

    C’mon. What the Christ

  170. MannyGeee says:

Nice of Tex to not hit into a DP that time… Oh wait.

  171. spectra says:

Man I wish we could get so more small ball in here this is so AWESOME. I hate the hits over the wall that score runs, there so boring

  172. UncleArgyle says:

Lucky for Tex there were already 2 outs. That would have been DP#3

  173. Athenian says:

And Tex strikes again. Well done.

  174. Terry Bollea says:

Tex is lucky that A-Rod made an out. Otherwise that would have been rally-suffocating GIDP #3.

Joe G’s moron managing is going to lose this game and the division title.

  175. UncleArgyle says:

Lucky for Tex there were already 2 outs. That would have been DP#3

  176. UncleArgyle says:

Lucky for Tex there were already 2 outs. That would have been DP#3

  177. UncleArgyle says:

Lucky for Tex there were already 2 outs. That would have been DP#3

  178. Bartolo's Colon says:

tex has managed to end 3 of the 5 innings. nice to see cano coming up when it matters. if they don’t come back, this one’s on girardi.

  179. Hugh says:

    Just awful.

  180. Yanker says:

At least it wasn’t a double-play this time!

  181. Chilango says:

Short leash Phelps. Prevent the 6th inning implosion

  182. Cuso says:

All this DP talk is getting me randy

  183. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Phelps is NOT to blame if they lose. He gave up just as many runs as CC did and Phelps was even facing 2 additional major league hitters. Teixera should be batting 6th, maybe even 7th below Grandy. Girardi really screwed up tonight.

  184. pistol pete says:

The all mighty corporate Yankees with 2 games left in their season bat Arod 3rd and Tex 4th ahead of the hottest and best hitter on their team Cano. Girardi is an idiot and if I were Cano after next season something like this might have me shop around at free agency. Tex hasn’t played in a month, the seasons on the line and Cano’s still batting 5th, only Girardi and the corporate Yankees who put the higher salary players ahead of the better hitter, unbelievable. And don’t tell me it’s just tonite I’ve been barking should hit 3rd all year and just leave him there, everyone should figure out where they hit around him. Girardi needs to take his binder and shove it where the sun does not shine. Nice nite Tex two dp’s and a ground out all with men on base.

  185. Kramerica Industries says:

Longo K’s with two on and two out. Still 1-0 O’s.

  186. Mike N says:

    Big out!

  187. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Well done Phelps.

  188. Joe F says:

Phelps did well. Probably better than Nova would have done. We need runs.

  189. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Phelps leaves to a rousing ovation. He gave us the big game we needed. Now here comes Boone to give up a hit.

  190. Kramerica Industries says:

Don’t let Phelps get an L for this. That would be fricken’ criminal.

  191. Klemy says:

Hopefully Phelps’ start doesn’t go to waste because of the ground ball with runners on base. Good start for him.

  192. Captain_Turbo says:

Not a bad outing for the kid.

  193. Kramerica Industries says:

    Meanwhile, Shields continues to dominate.

Hope he nor Phelps get L’s tonight for fine efforts.

  194. Mike N says:

This is seriously exciting baseball. I can’t remember the last time the regular season came down to the wire like this.

  195. ClayDavis says:

Rays cant get a freaken run? Come on

  196. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Good Boone.
    Runs please.

  197. Cy Pettitte says:

Shields is dealing, can this lame Rays offense score him some runs

  198. Bartolo's Colon says:

need to score at least two this inning

  199. Effthisnoise says:

    6th inning walk off

  200. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

We’re into the Boston pen. They’re not good. Someone needs to come up with a big HR.

  201. Athenian says:

Damn Shields has 10 strike outs.

  202. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

We’d be up 15-1 if Joe had hit Cano 4th.

  203. Mike N says:

    Score this fucking runner!!!!

  204. Kramerica Industries says:

    Robbie continues to hit.

Man, that lineup decision continues to look more and more foolish.

  205. Effthisnoise says:

Girardis stupid logic of not hitting cano cleanup because of a lhp. Even tho he is the hottest hitter on the team and 7 for his last 8 against LHP!

  206. Greg says:

Nobosy should complain about the lineup, because I didn’t see anybody complaining about it before the game.

  207. Yanker says:

Kudos to Phelps – big start – did just fine.

  208. Greg says:

Nobosy should complain about the lineup, because I didn’t see anybody complaining about it before the game.

  209. Austin Aunelowitzky says:

    Fans at the Stadium,
You are better than a Boston Sucks chant right now.

  210. Hummingbird S. says:

Grandy should not be batting here, unfortunately.

  211. pistol pete says:

This one’s on Girardi if the Yankees lose.

  212. pistol pete says:

This one’s on Girardi if the Yankees lose.

  213. nsalem says:

Is it right to be chanting Boston Sucks when they actually do suck?

  214. Captain_Turbo says:

Boston sucks chant? Really? Do we have to lower ourselves to the level of those monkeys?

  215. Kramerica Industries says:

    The frustration continues to grow.

This is a game the Yankees can’t afford to lose. For the love of God, do not lose it.

  216. Hummingbird S. says:

predictable as it gets.. Granderson should not bat against a lefty with the game on the line.

  217. Widget says:

    Rich Hill. This is sad.

  218. spectra says:

Does Rich Hill have any chance on a bunt, almost every pitch he ends up five feet towards first

  219. Athenian says:

Yankees would be truly unsuccessful if it were not former hitting dominance of Granderson.

  220. Athenian says:

Yankees would be truly unsuccessful if it were not for the hitting dominance of Granderson.

  221. Athenian says:

Yankees would be truly unsuccessful if it were not for the hitting dominance of Granderson.

  222. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

I couldn’t find a number for RISPhits that don’t score a run, but there’s this:

    Yankees with RISP:
.254 BA (compared to .263 overall)
    532 runs on 331 hits
1.60 runs per hit (compared to .55 runs per hit overall)

    MLB with RISP:
.255 BA (compared to .255 overall)
    15191 runs on 10030 hits
1.51 runs per hit (compared to .50 runs per hit overall)

So the Yankees have slightly fewer hits with RISP than they should given their overall average, and it doesn’t seem like they score fewer runs per RISPhit than you’d expect.

  223. Athenian says:

Yankees would be truly unsuccessful if it were not for the hitting dominance of Granderson.

  224. pistol pete says:

If the Yanks blow this game it’s on Girardi for the likeup changes.

  225. Effthisnoise says:

“The yankees have other ideas” says kay, like what most dp’s and pop ups in a game?

  226. JMK says:

It would be nice if some of the fans tried to get the ball. This game is, you might have heard, important.

  227. ClayDavis says:

    Shoukd have just sent cano

  228. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Such an electric ballplayer. Maybe Nunie should be hitting 4th.

  229. Mike N says:

  230. Kramerica Industries says:

DAMMIT! Thought that would tie the game.

  231. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Let’s go Ichiro!

  232. Hummingbird S. says:

that’s unfortunate… now we need another big hit

  233. Effthisnoise says:

    Needed that run to score.

  234. flamingo says:

I just thought, NUNEE! And then groaned that the stupid nickname actually caught on. STILL.

  235. Cant believe they killed opie says:

Can we just make nunez a outfielder already.

  236. spectra says:

This loss is on Girardi for putting Nunez in the eigth spot

    • CUYanks says:

I know! If Joe had just batted all the hitters who got hits in a row, they would surely have scored more! Plus, for all the batters Phelps gave up a hit on, he should have temporarily brought in Boone Logan, as he got his two batters out.

  237. Effthisnoise says:

    Needed that run to score.

  238. Effthisnoise says:

    Needed that run to score.

  239. Cy Pettitte says:

    this game is beyond brutal.

  240. Mike N says:

  241. Bartolo's Colon says:

unfuckingbelievable, how do we get so much offense and 1 fucking run. this is just stupid

  242. Kramerica Industries says:

Hit hard, but nonetheless, another opportunity wasted.

  243. The Real Greg says:

Buck’s deal to the devil is working perfectly.

  244. Terry Bollea says:

Great, next inning is set up perfectly for ARod and Tex to kill things again. Thanks Joe.

  245. CountryClub says:

    6 innings, 10 hits, 1 run.

  246. Hall and Nokes says:

    What the hell happened there?

  247. Bartolo's Colon says:

and tex is going to come up in a big spot next inning

  248. teddy says:

should have sent, they weren’t gotta get a hit anyway, this offense iss trash

    • Hall and Nokes says:

It’s not like he was being held up. Looked like he could have gotten thrown out at third. Where the hell was he?

  249. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

It’s going to be like this in the playoffs, folks. This team just cannot hit with RISP and that won’t correct itself. They either hit HRs or they lose, that’s just the way it is. We need a HR.

  250. Hummingbird S. says:

bad luck. Had he PH for Grandy, that inning might have ended up with a run. Use McGehee or somebody else, but not Grandy’s platoon bat.

  251. Get Phelps Up says:

At least we’re not the Rays.

  252. Athenian says:

Man, 10 hits and not a thing to show for it. Typical 2012 Yankees.

  253. The Real Greg says:

Balls hit hard at people with RISP, unsure runners. This has got to be the unluckiest Yankee team with RISP that I have ever seen.

  254. MannyGeee says:

Well, ichiromgot BABIP boned there. That drops 99 times out of 100

  255. CUYanks says:

Wait, the number 3 seed also hosts the first 2 games this year?

  256. toad says:

Major props for Phelps. He did a great job, IMO. Now let’s get some runs, dammit.

  257. Cuso says:

10 hits in 6 innings and only one run. Thats tough to do.

  258. teddy says:

giradri gaving up, pitching joba here

  259. The Real Greg says:

Orioles are going to win the division. Buck made a deal with the devil.

-Has his upside down Orioles team playing above their had.

-Yankees are unluckiest team with RISP that I have ever seen

-Jerry Meals misses a call that was critical in the division race.

  260. Kramerica Industries says:

    Ho hum. Another Ciriaco hit.

  261. Hummingbird S. says:

why throw anything near the zone to Ciriaco. He’ll swing at every pitch out of the zone.

  262. bmezz says:

Joba givs up a run. i can almost bet on it.

  263. Cant believe they killed opie says:

Come joba fart and snort and get the k

  264. JMK says:

It’s almost like the Yankees don’t have a scouting report on Ciriaco.

  265. Hummingbird S. says:

this is so pathetic. They continue to let Ciriaco beat them.

  266. Kramerica Industries says:

    Don’t let Ciriaco score.

For the love of God, no.

  267. Chilango says:

Three innings and we’re into their pen. Doable.

  268. Tom says:

    Rapada here?

  269. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

If Buck brings in Strop the Rays have a chance.

  270. Mike N says:

    YEAH, JOBA!!!

  271. Hummingbird S. says:

  272. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Jobber gets the crowd fired up. Hopefully that inspires the offense.

  273. Kramerica Industries says:

  274. Terry Bollea says:

Now would be a GREAT time for Arod to stop doing that thing where he plays like a worthless overpriced sack of shit.

  275. ClayDavis says:

Not a single run for the Rays. Unbelievable

  276. Hummingbird S. says:

    so much bad luck

  277. Kramerica Industries says:

    Of course it drifted foul.

  278. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Ten hits and one run = Bom-bok

  279. Athenian says:

Yanks better pull their heads out! Assuming they know where to look. Tampa is not winning that game.

  280. Hummingbird S. says:

SS defense, didn’t know that was allowed.

  281. Bartolo's Colon says:

i’m calling that boston will rob a homerun, that is pretty much the only thing we haven’t seen here

  282. Terry Bollea says:

Michael Kay calls that “stealing a base hit” because he’s so used to Jeter getting nowhere near that ball at short.

  283. Kramerica Industries says:

    Two weak grounders.

Two less outs to work with.

    The frustration mounts.

  284. Bartolo's Colon says:

    arod- channel aug 7, 2009

  285. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Need to bat over .150 to be the “Shortstop of the future.”

  286. ClayDavis says:

  287. Cy Pettitte says:

this is fucking unreal. The Rays are going to lose a game in which Shields throws a CG with 15 Ks and 1ER and the Yankees are in danger of losing because they can’t score 2 runs.

  288. teddy says:

balti simply better, this yanks offense is trult gutless and giradri is a pathetic manager, they lose the wildcard game to oak as well

  289. WhittakerWalt says:

    Saving their worst for last.

  290. Hummingbird S. says:

A-Rod is done. He looks awful.

  291. Bartolo's Colon says:

as a yankee fan, there is no way tonight could be more frustrating

  292. Kramerica Industries says:

Forget everything else. If the Yankees lose this game, it is undoubtedly the worst loss of the season.

  293. Athenian says:

Well at least Tex can kill the inning with his patented double play.

  294. Chilango says:

ARod ..and he all ours until when, 2050?

  295. JMK says:

These threads really are unbearable. Why are so many of you so fatalistic?

  296. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Wow nine pitches. Resistance is futile. Just roll over like Tex and live to GIDP another day. Play the backups.

  297. TomH says:

Well, let’s hope the good Robertson shows up.

At the moment, Selig is in 7th Heaven. A tie, AL East, to be broken (he hopes) late tomorrow, with millions watching.

  298. Kramerica Industries says:

Just realized this game feels JUST LIKE Game 5 against Detroit last year. Just fucking like it.

  299. Hall and Nokes says:

The Rays not caring are actually even worse offensively than the Rays caring.

  300. The Troll says:

Why is A-Rod still playing? This is a legitimate question that Girardi should be asking himself. When was A-Rod’s last productive stretch? Has he existed whatsoever in September? And batting him THIRD?!?!?! So many people discredit the importance of batter order, but, let’s be serious, tonight’s lineup cost them the game. When your 3 and 4 hitters are either coming off a substantial injury or in a sudden, drastic, severe career tailspin, your status as a baseball manager should likely be in doubt.

  301. Bartolo's Colon says:

    please longoria, walk off please!!

  302. Hummingbird S. says:

Longoria up with Zobrist on first

  303. OMG! Bagels! says:

Where were the Negative Nancys last night? More frustrating than the Yanks are all the predictions about how and when they will lose the playoffs. If you have no faith, stop talking and go watch something else.

    • The Troll says:

Let them talk. Let them vent. Let them rant. Let them scream, curse, yell, and panic. They have every right to.

    • Athenian says:

Is addicting. Besides all of us who you call negative Nancy’s are secretly hoping for something positive to root for but each day it never happens. So like a beaten dog, we still come back to the same thing.

  304. Kramerica Industries says:

    Up to Keppinger now.

  305. MannyGeee says:

The Rays fucking blow at run production. Remember when Longoria was good? Those were fun times

  306. Effthisnoise says:

Shields got robbed, prob his best game all year

  307. Mike N says:

    D-Rob, YEAH!

  308. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

2nd inning in a row the Yankee pitcher has fired up the crowd with a SO. The offense needs to do something here.

  309. Hummingbird S. says:

game over, O’s win another 1-run game. Kinda like the Yankees, but the opposite.

  310. The Real Greg says:

Buck: Okay Satan concentrate all your power on the Yankees game now.

  311. Kramerica Industries says:

    2 hits, 15 strikeouts.

    And the Orioles win anyway.

    Can’t make this shit up.

  312. Bartolo's Colon says:

i think this is the first time that tex is up where he can’t end the inning. maybe he will respond well?

  313. Pasqua says:

    Win. This. Fucking. Game.

    (Pretty please?)

  314. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

These umps and their emphatic strike three calls.

  315. ClayDavis says:

Thanks Rays. Couldn’t get one god damn run.

  316. RkyMtnYank says:

Hope they leave the righthander in to move Tex to the left side so there is at least a chance, since Tex sucks balls from the right side.

  317. Winter says:

For once the award for most pathetic offensive performance isn’t going to the Yankees. Congratulation’s Tampa Bay Rays!

  318. stuart a says:

can arod hit the ball hard ever?

the worse 2 of 4 I have seen in a while..

as i stated yesterday bat Tex down in the order until he gets together..

girardi does not want to hurt aroid or tecs feelings by moving them down in the order.

  319. The Troll says:

    Everybody. Everybody!

    Listen. Listen to this.

Everybody, shut up. Quiet down! You’re not going to believe this!

This is EPIC! Guess what . . .

    Buck Showalter made a deal with . . .

OMG! This is insane! Everybody. Everybody. Look at me. Listen.

    Buck Showalter made a deal with . . .

    THE DEVIL!!!

OUTRAGEOUS! I’m stunned. Everybody, give me your attention. The Devil.

    The motherfu*king DEVIL. Crazy.

  320. Mike N says:

    Please get on base, Tex.

  321. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Pinch hit the ghost of McGehehehehehee for Tattered Tex. The binder never lies!

  322. stuart a says:

the 3 and 4 hitters tonight for the yanks have been great.

arod has absolutely no power….unfriggin believable…

  323. Hummingbird S. says:

seriously, teixera batting 4th 2 games after coming back from injury in a MUST WIN… that’s insane.

  324. stuart a says:

arod gets jammed in batting practice…..

  325. JMK says:

I know it seems almost unfathomable that we score a single run to tie the game given the offensive FAIL we’ve seen tonight. But one run really isn’t super insurmountable.

Do any of you have any faith anymore?

  326. Kramerica Industries says:

Now they can’t even get any fucking baserunners. Six outs in a row. WAKE THE FUCK UP.

  327. Effthisnoise says:

We all missed Tex in the lineup but why would Joe think he was ready for cleanup after all those missed games

  328. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Tick tock, Yankees

  329. Nikhil says:

    Fucking disgraceful

  330. The Real Greg says:

Since nobody questioned that decision before the game, we shoudn’t question it now

  331. Hummingbird S. says:

are they really gonna go down in order without putting up a fight? very weak shit from the overpaid millionaires

  332. Karl Krawfid says:

God damn as good as the Yanks looked yesterday is as bad as they looked today.

    Choke jobs left and right.

  333. stuart a says:

apropos they lose this game because of RISP fail since it has only been going on for 5 months…

arod just got jammed in the cage under the stands…………….

  334. Bartolo's Colon says:

i think i agree the only way we win this is if we hit a homer.

  335. WhittakerWalt says:

I’m running out of synonyms for “pathetic.”

  336. Get Phelps Up says:

Have the Orioles announced their TBA starter for tomorrow?

  337. Kramerica Industries says:

Might as well hope for the home run now.

    Only way they’re scoring tonight.

  338. The Troll says:

You know . . . I hear that fouling out is a mark of future success. Even more so? Grounding into multiple double plays is believed to be a positive omen. I’m psyched, guys. Deal with the Devil be damned!

  339. Mike N says:

    Good job, Russell!

  340. The Real Greg says:

Can the Yankees one time this year get lucky?

  341. Hummingbird S. says:

  342. JMK says:

    Whaaaaat? Ugh. Just. Ugh.

  343. Karl Krawfid says:

  344. Effthisnoise says:

  345. Pasqua says:

    Welcome back, Tex and Brett!

  346. BigBlueAL says:

  347. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

For such a speedy runner, Gardner is an outrageously bad basestealer.

FWIW I disagree with Cone, I didn’t see a balk there.

  348. Bartolo's Colon says:

and to add insult to injury grandy will probably be up against a lefty

  349. flamingo says:

  350. Hummingbird S. says:

they always find a way to embarrass themselves..

  351. Kramerica Industries says:

  352. The Real Greg says:

    Thanks Satan. Keep it up

  353. Tom Q says:

    THAT’S what was missing.

  354. WhittakerWalt says:

It’s like the playoff ineptitude started a couple days early.

  355. whozat says:

Brett Gardner: not actually good at stealing bases.

  356. The Troll says:

The two new additions accounting for, what, 8 outs?

  357. Cuso says:

Wake up 2b Ump. That lean backwards made it a balk.

  358. Cy Pettitte says:

what in the fuck. just when you think this team turned it around with the last two wins they pull this bullshit and throw away the division.

  359. stuart a says:

francessa the moron today said keep arod in the 3rd or 4th slot, he is stealing bases and getting on base..

arod has power like jose iglesias…it is unfathomable they keep this piece of crap in the middle of the lineup…

  360. teddy says:

the yanks need to quit and rebuild

  361. Fin says:

Yankees are awesome, no hits with runners on again. Manage to go 3 and 3 against 2 of the worst teams in the AL.

  362. True blue says:

    Jesus..what a shit show.

  363. Adam says:

    Sorry, that’s a balk.

  364. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Should’ve stayed in fucken Tampa. Fuck you Grit Grutner!

  365. Joe F says:

    Ugh. We can’t lose.

  366. JMK says:

    You must be kidding me.

  367. Karl Krawfid says:

    Just fucking kill me.

  368. MannyGeee says:

    Sure..l mean, why not.

  369. Mike N says:

    Oh, for fuck’s sake.

  370. Joe F says:

    Dammit Soriano.

  371. Cy Pettitte says:

ok I give up. heads should roll just for this loss.

  372. Athenian says:

Boom! There is the game. Well done, failures!

  373. Bartolo's Colon says:

thanks soriano. man what a choke job these guys have pulled off here

  374. Chilango says:

hahaha Soriano way to go. Hey Greg what bad luck huh.

  375. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Looked like a balk, and looked like possibly a tie at 2nd. I like how they froze it when the glove was on his body AND this hand was on the bag. Very helpful.

  376. Hummingbird S. says:

5 hits, 3 runs (AAA lineup)

10 hits, 1 run (overpaid millionaire chokers)

HR by Loney is simply pathetic.

  377. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Rabble rabble Girardi rabble binder rabble

  378. WhittakerWalt says:

  379. BigBlueAL says:

At least CC will be well-rested for Friday….

  380. Widget says:

hahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahha. Clutch Soriano, really fucking clutch.

  381. teddy says:

just fired giradri and cashman now

  382. Kramerica Industries says:

This has been a sickening display by a team with first place on the line.

I cannot believe what I’m watching. These guys should be humiliated by what they’ve done.

  383. Effthisnoise says:

Over under on a 7 pitch bottom of the 9th

  384. JMK says:

What was wrong with keeping Robertson in?

  385. Karl Krawfid says:

2-1 fastballs on the inner half!

    Keep throwing em!

  386. flamingo says:

Was the HR off a slider?

  387. True blue says:

Are you fucking kidding me.. Awful job

  388. WhittakerWalt says:

  389. Rocky Road Redemption says:

I am really, truly amazed we are losing this game. I honestly was totally confident that at one point we’d make up that one run. That we haven’t is shocking to me.

(Cue host of people all talking about how it’s because the team is too old, unclutch, Tex’s fault, A-Rod’s fault, Girardi’s fault, et cetera).

Also, Soriano is starting to falter.

  390. MannyGeee says:

God damn it, do I miss Mo. Say what you want about #untuck, Mo has one bad week a year and the rest of the season he’s lighs out. I feel like Soriano has a game like this every 3 weeks.

  391. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

You do not bring a closer into a non-save situation. I don’t know why managers always do this. It’s a different mentality. Ballgame over.

  392. The Troll says:

For all the season-long talk about how great Soriano’s been . . . he has been horrendous of late. Is there anyone on this thread that would trust him closing out a one out game in the playoffs?

  393. Pasqua says:

    Orioles: 15 K’s + 2 Hits + 1 Run = Win.

    Yankees: 11 Hits + 1 Run = Loss (?)

    This fucking game.

  394. Karl Krawfid says:

Remember the ONE game Soriano was throwing 95 plus against the Jays.

    ONE game.

  395. stuart a says:

the delusion from yesterday is over.

soriano just gave up a homer to a guy with less power then aroid….

don’t worry the yanks will comeback, they have done it many times in the 9th this season…

the yanks should have scored 5 to 7 runs today if they were not grossly incompetent and Girardi hitting tex 4th in game 2 was a moron move especially with Ms Rodriguez in front of him in the order….

  396. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

This team had to win two ballgames against a last place club. That’s all they had to do and the division, and possibly HFA, was theirs. They couldn’t do it. What does that say about this team? They even got 6 innings, 2 runs out of Phelps. What more could you ask for? Joe failed, Teixera failed, A-Rod failed. The only guy out there playing with passion is Nunez.

  397. Bruce says:

Wtf. This pathetic. Two runs since the outburst yesterday.

  398. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Any executive in the Yanks front office: .”Moving forward Joe, call ahead three hours before each game and we’ll email you your lineup for the game.”

    Joe: “But, but, but…the binder.”

    Executive: *Click*

    • Winter says:

This never would (and could) happen. It’s the manager’s job to set lineups, not the FO. Can you image how pissed we’d be if the FO set lineups and then the team lost!

    • Winter says:

This would (and should) never happen. It’s the manager’s job to set lineups, not the FO. Can you image how pissed we’d be if the FO set lineups and then the team lost!

  399. CUYanks says:

Before everyone completely gives up hope, look at Andrew Bailey’s stats. He hasn’t exactly been lights out.

  400. Karl Krawfid says:

This non clutch Yankee team :(

  401. BigBlueAL says:

At least after the game Jeter will say they still control their own destiny.

  402. Joe M says:

I just watched the replay of Loney’s homerun. I don’t really how what to think of it. Soriano would’ve hit Martin’s glove dead on.

  403. stuart a says:

don’t worry coming back from 2 down in the 9th is a piece of cake for this team. don’t worry they will not have hero complex, they will simply try to get hits..

they have done it many times this season late, no worries…

Who’s slugging % is higher over the last 30 games Arods or Iglesias the Boston SS?????

  404. Kramerica Industries says:

Score three runs here and win this fucking game, Yankees.

  405. Mike N says:

    Score some damn runs!!!!

  406. Rocky Road Redemption says:

You guys realize that if we lose, we’re tied with a game left plus we have the wild card, right?

Nobody should be in trouble for losing this specific game when nothing’s been decided yet win or lose.

  407. Hummingbird S. says:

they have to score twice as much as they did all game long in just one inning.

  408. The Troll says:

Ok. This game is lost. What should I be rooting for now? What’s the best outcome after tonight? What if they lose tomorrow. Fuck, if they lose tomorrow against a last place AAA team, then they should just lay down in the wild card game . . . Fuck this. I don’t know what to root for anymore. :(

    • Winter says:

Root for a comeback, this game’s not over yet!

Then if they do lose, root for them to win tomorrow. And the next day. And the next. And so on.

  409. Chilango says:

Twins-Jays-Red Sox, The division on a plate. And we’re .500 against them. No one to blame but themselves for letting it slip away, if indeed it does tomorrow.

    • Nice Scheister of Doom says:

I agree. Lackluster play equals golf in early October.

    • The Troll says:

That sums it up right there. That. Forget losing the 10 game lead. That right there. Minnesota, Toronto, Boston . . . on a silver fucking platter. Heads SHOULD roll. I mean, like, what the buck . . . It was supposed to be SOO easy. Incredible. 10 games against losers and they go halvesies?

  410. Bartolo's Colon says:

so who is going to score the one run?

  411. Bevis says:

We’ve seen this before. Now they will walk at least two guys onto base, with at least 2 outs left. Then they will all be left on base.

  412. Kramerica Industries says:

    There’s a baserunner.

  413. Mike N says:

  414. Bartolo's Colon says:

fucking ibanez????? please prove me wrong

  415. Karl Krawfid says:

    Assist to BG.

He got caught stealing on purpose.

  416. Cy Pettitte says:

I will drive to NY and hand polish Ibanez’s dome if he ties this game.

  417. Winter says:

    C-Dick hits for Nunie?

  418. Chilango says:

    Ibañez for the dinger…

  419. Winter says:

    Let’s go Voldy…

  420. JMK says:

    Any response, naysayers?

  421. Joe M says:

  422. Get Phelps Up says:

    Unclutch my ass.

  423. Adam says:

    Suck it bridge jumpers!

  424. BigBlueAL says:

  425. Mike N says:

    YAYAYAYAYAYAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OH, YAYAQYAYAYAYAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG!!!!!!!!!

  426. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

If they’re not holding Granderson on, why isn’t he going to avoid the double play?

  427. Joe F says:

  428. MannyGeee says:

  429. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

  430. Hummingbird S. says:

  431. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    cMon Old Dude!

  432. Rocky Road Redemption says:

    *Jaw drops*

  433. Widget says:

    Bailey sucks so bad.

  434. The Troll says:

He just PH Ibanez . . . My head just exploded. Punching my dick never hurt so bad.

    • The Troll says:

Clearly I was beating it . . . Yeah. That’s it. I was pounding my member with excitement, not shame or anger . . . Yeah. Let us never talk about this ever again.

  435. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

    Oh, hai guys :D

  436. Kramerica Industries says:

    Raul to the fucking rescue!

    Win this game now!

  437. warren says:

    Holy hell WOW!

  438. YanksFanInBeantown says:

  439. Winter says:

  440. Athenian says:

Holy crap! It is good to be wrong!

  441. Bevis says:

YAY! no ichi can hit his 4th of the year or whatever.

  442. Get Phelps Up says:

    Now Ichiro for the walkoff.

  443. Terry Bollea says:

  444. Chilango says:

Now Joe is a genius right.

  445. WhittakerWalt says:

I, for one, am willing to bow down to our Voldemort overlord.

  446. Robinson Tilapia says:

…and that’s why I signed Raul Ibanez back in the spring.

    Brian Cashman

  447. Bruce says:

  448. Adam says:

It is wonderful to think of all the trolls sitting at home, whimpering.

  449. MannyGeee says:

Also, IBAÑEZZZZZZZZ and Gardner are shockingly similar looking with those shiny heads

  450. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

  451. Winter says:

What happened to all the people saying “Ok. This game is lost”? Where did they all go?

  452. flamingo says:

Best storyline this season: Jeter, Chavez, Ichiro, or Ibanez? Old guys producing.

  453. I Collect Brett Gardner Cards says:

i seriously think all the people who said this was a loss should be IP banned.

  454. Mike N says:

  455. Kramerica Industries says:

Alrighty now. Time for a walk-off hit, folks.

  456. Cy Pettitte says:

Captain!!! gotta end this now. don’t want MFIKY out there for a 2nd inning

  457. Get Phelps Up says:

    Alright, win this Swish.

  458. flamingo says:

  459. YanksFanInBeantown says:

  460. Kramerica Industries says:

    You want pie, Swish.

    Get that pie.

  461. Mike N says:

    C’mon, Swish!!!

  462. Chilango says:

    Walk-off end it here Swish!

  463. Joe F says:

    Alex will be clutch.

  464. JRod says:

Everyone else orders a bat in maple or ash, Raul’s is hewn of pure elder wand.

  465. BigBlueAL says:

Of course it comes down to Arod-Tex.

  466. Get Phelps Up says:

    PR C-Dick and double steal.

  467. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Get pissed and make them pay Arod.

  468. The Troll says:

No. Not the Hero Complex himself!!! WHY NOW?! WHY!!!!

  469. JobaWockeeZ says:

LOL what a gift by Bobby.

  470. Hummingbird S. says:

i’d much rather have Chavez up here..

  471. Kramerica Industries says:

    Atonement time for ARod.

    Get it done.

  472. Chilango says:

    ARod STEP UP. Please

  473. Pasqua says:

Unroot yourself, you big ol’ tree, you!

  474. MannyGeee says:

Come on walk of A Bomb… He owes us this.

  475. Bartolo's Colon says:

    please, lets do it ardo

  476. The Troll says:

Bobby’s been a dumb shit all season, but even I’d agree with THAT move.

  477. Chilango says:

ARod will be huge bank it

  478. Bruce says:

So Al is more than overdue. C’mon overpaid dude.

  479. Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

I like Baseball. Go Yankees. Isn’t Kay wrong, the massive comeback?!

  480. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

    Gotta sit fastball here IMO.

  481. Winter says:

Wild pitch would be a gift from heaven (aka Red Sox pitching) right now.

  482. Winter says:

MLB.tv just fucking died on me…

  483. The Real Greg says:

If they pull this off, would this be the first win when trailing after 8. Or was that the Oakland win

    • Kramerica Industries says:

      This would be #1.

They weren’t trailing after 8 vs. Oakland. Trailing by four in the 13th? Sure. But not trailing after 8.

  484. Kramerica Industries says:

Amazing. It now comes down to Tex.

  485. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Tex…just need a fly ball here buddy.

  486. Get Phelps Up says:

Tex needs to take a strike here.

  487. Bartolo's Colon says:

    this scares me

  488. Mike N says:

Huge AB for A-Rod!!! Now we can win on an out!!!!!!!!!

  489. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Oh no, Teixera up to hit a DP.

  490. flamingo says:

  491. MannyGeee says:

Come on Bobby. Gimme Padilla here against Tex. That would be epic.

  492. Winter says:

Sac fly, very slow grounder, HR, single, error, WP I don’t care. Just get it done.

  493. jay says:

Not the Alex of old with the bat, but the man can still put up a good AB with the best of them

  494. WhittakerWalt says:

    Redemption time for Tex.

  495. Hummingbird S. says:

once again, all up to Teix… hopefully this doesn’t blow up in Girardi’s (stupid) face once again.

    Don’t choke Teix.

  496. The Troll says:

Oh god. The goat of the game up with the game on the line . . . Just hit it in the air you asshole.

  497. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Real quick, did the O’s/Ray game go final? it was 1-0 in the 7th last I checked.

    • Get Phelps Up says:

      Yeah. Shields K’s 15 in a CG and loses…

    • Adam says:

      Yeah, 1-0 final.

    • The Troll says:

You’re on the internet. I hear there’s this website called ESPN.COM. They’ve got scores to ALL kinds of crazy sports. EVEN CRICKET!

      • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Damnit, did someone forget to feed the Troll again? I leave for one night guys…did anybody at least take him for his walk?

        • Captain_Turbo says:

I tried. He kept peeing on my leg.

        • The Troll says:

Not my fault you’re a moron who clings to digital friendships on a baseball thread. But hey, next time I want to know what happened in the Kings/Sharks match, I’ll be sure to hit you up.

          • Captain_Turbo says:

You’re an angry little dwarf. Something you want to get off your chest? Lose your job? Trouble with your girl? Erectile dysfunction? You can tell old Turbo.

          • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

And it’s not my fault that you get your self worth from trying to bully people on a baseball thread.

            • The Troll says:

I bully those that deserved to be bullied. You, for instance. You have a very childish mind. It’s intriguing. Developmental disorder, perhaps? Your social immaturity is baffling. ‘Tis a big, big world out there. Make a real friend. Enjoy the realities of life. And, for future reference, just check out one of the many sport-oriented sites out there that cater to scores and such when you’re jonesin’ for an Oriole update.

              • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Just depression and anxiety disorder thanks. I’m sure it feels good to bully people who “deserve it” Also, I’m sure you have plenty of friends with your warm and cuddliness.

                • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Also, who is the one that’s more immature, the person who calls out an absolute stranger for having a “childish mind” and a potential developmental disorder, continues to mock him anyway after theorizing that he might have a disorder of some kind, or somebody that makes a passing joke about somebody with the handle “The Troll?” I’m just saying, i’d like to think that I am mature enough to not make fun of or bully somebody who I believe might have a developmental disorder.

  498. Pasqua says:

Kay says of Tex, “The game continues to find him.” Well…yeah! He’s batting fucking clean-up. That’s kind of the point.

  499. Bruce says:

I dunno. Would a fly ball be too much to ask for, here?

  500. toad says:

No excuse not to win here.

  501. The Next Guy says:

Depending on what Tex does here, the headlines after the game will be about redemption or Joe’s dumb decision to bat Tex ahead of Robbie.

  502. CountryClub says:

    Come on, Teix….

  503. Ghost of Joe Dugan says:

It will always surprise me the sheer magnitude of the stupidity that exists in fandom.

  504. Joe F says:

    Tex don’t suck.

  505. Pasqua says:

YES is going into emergency narrative mode prior to this at-bat. Hilarious.

  506. Tom says:

And to think the Red Sox only had to give up Josh Reddick to get Bailey.

  507. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Embedded Yankee Mark Melancon? I like this machup.

  508. Chilango says:

    Tex will come up big.

  509. Richard Leo says:

    HR please!!!

  510. CUYanks says:

A groundball concerns me with respect to the calf of Teix.

    • Winter says:

Tex will hustle. He may suck, but I don’t think I’ve seen him not hustle. Just think of the game against the O’s or a few years ago when he scored from 1st on the dropped pop up against the Mets.

  511. Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

That second pitch shows way inside on Gameday. Awful umps.

  512. The Real Greg says:

So Joe is saved for the moment

  513. Pasqua says:

    Just. The worst.

  514. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Broken bat, Jesus

  515. Hummingbird S. says:

  516. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Fucking Tex.

    C’mon Robbie.

  517. Kramerica Industries says:

    unreal. Awful.

  518. Klemy says:

Wow. Tex having a forgetful night.

  519. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

    well…that was anticlimactic.

  520. Rocky Road Redemption says:

I’d love all of you to call Girardi stupid to his face. Seriously, I’d pay to see it.

  521. The Troll says:

3 3-3 ties in the ninth inning or later . . . That’s some crazy omen type shit right there!

  522. Terry Bollea says:

I would have PHed Chavy or Dickerson there, I would trust my dog more to get a ball out of the infield than Tex right now.

  523. Widget says:

why? why swing at anything? Melancon is garbage. He was going to walk Tex. What a time to have the worst game of his Yankee career.

    • Joe M says:

I totally agree. I don’t know why you would want to swing, or even put the ball in play. Just work a walk. Game over.

  524. Tom says:

Yikes… fastball right down the middle.

  525. Mike N says:

    C’mon, Robbie!!!!!!!!!!!!

  526. Klemy says:

Well, chances are it won’t be a walk that ends this inning.

  527. Chilango says:

Right down the middle Tex WTF

  528. The Troll says:

Is this Teixera’s best game of his career?

  529. The Real Greg says:

Well Joe is saved because Robbie gets a chance here.

  530. Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

Ohhhh, you’re off the Mark Teixeria.

  531. Peter says:

Tex and Swisher, tuff battle between who is the most unclutch player in the current roster

  532. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Maybe Teix should just take the rest of the year off and let Chavy handle 1B. He really hurt the team tonight and might cost them the division crown.

  533. The Troll says:

OH yeah, also . . . Thank you Soriano.

  534. The Real Greg says:

    So Cano fails AS WELL

  535. Rocky Road Redemption says:

    How deflating.

  536. Klemy says:

Couldn’t pick a worse pitch to pull the trigger on.

  537. CountryClub says:

  538. flamingo says:

  539. Pasqua says:

I know I should be grateful that they tied it and all, but how do you not win the fucking game there?

  540. Karl Krawfid says:

How the fuck did they not win this game?

    Fuck this team.

  541. Kramerica Industries says:

Yankees truly are their own worst enemy.

I cannot believe this game is in extras.

  542. Bartolo's Colon says:

granted, the hr was nice, but what a weak performance, if tex comes up again, you have to ph chavez

  543. True blue says:

    Tex sucks balls

  544. Hummingbird S. says:

seriously Girardi deserves to be fired because of this move alone. What a fucking moronic decision.

  545. Widget says:

well that was their best shot to win the game. They’ll give up runs here.

  546. stuart a says:

shocker they could not get the 3rd run across what a friggin shock.

bases loaded 1 out and the sack of s Texiera could not hit the ball to the outfield and then hero complex cano with a weak grounder to 2nd..

    what a friggin shock……

    • Captain_Turbo says:

So basically you’re saying they suck because they tied the game? Okaaaaay…..

      • toad says:

No. The criticism is the inabilty to score a run with the bases loaded and one out against a mediocre pitcher.

Is that unreasonable? All Teixeira had to do was hit a deep fly, or wait for a walk, or something. And when he didn’t Cano could have still won it. He didn’t either. You think that’s OK?

  547. WhittakerWalt says:

That was literally the worst call of Sterling’s career.

  548. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

    terrible swing by Cano…

  549. Bruce says:

Weak. Seems like Raul tied it up just to tease us. Wtf. Bases loaded one freaking out and no runs. I’m beyond aggrevated.

  550. The Troll says:

I didn’t think that this game could get any MORE deflating. Jesus Fu*king Montero.

  551. YanksFanInBeantown says:

    Fucking Teixeira.

  552. Chilango says:

Missed a huge opportunity. Too bad.

  553. Cy Pettitte says:

    I can’t believe this shit

  554. Karl Krawfid says:

    No closer tomorrow.

    GJ Joe G.

  555. Bartolo's Colon says:

at least tex has a hell of a glove in october

  556. The Real Greg says:

All of you that are questioning Girardi about the lineup have no right to because I heard nobody questioning the lineup before the game. So therefore all the criticism is coming in hindsight which is not fair

  557. stuart a says:

yanks find new ways to tease with us on a daily basis…

    coulda shoulda woulda……..

  558. Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

Hmmmm, if Robbie and Teix were switched, that would have possibility scored a run or this would already be at least 5-3 right now and the pen wouldn’t need to be raided. Spare me the fallacy of blah blah blah. I’m positive.

    • The Real Greg says:

      • The Troll says:

But Greg, what about Satan? What merit do FALLACY and HINDSIGHT have when the devil’s so involved?

        • The Real Greg says:

Those two have nothing to do with each other. I am speaking about the criticism here, not the game there.

          • The Troll says:

Oh. I see, because the devil is only concerned about Buck Showalter. Not Barrack Obama, not Lady Gaga, not Lebron James, not Kim Kardashian, not Al Roker, not Ryan Gosling. Just Buck and fighting O’s. Okay. I see your logic. As you were.

      • Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

Considering the hindsight was foresight and its something everyone has been questioning all night. Okay.

        • The Real Greg says:

          BEFORE THE GAME.

          Read please

          • The Troll says:

            Greg. You’re a complete nutter.

          • Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

Foresight -noun- the ability to predict what will happen.

It didn’t take Cleo to tell ya that Cano was a better choice in the four spot. Teix is coming off injury and its been the theme all night, PRIOR to Teix’s first AB.

Hindsight – noun- understanding a situation after it has happened.

  559. Hummingbird S. says:

a shaky Soriano for a second inning of work.. that has trouble written all over.

  560. DC says:

Ok, all gameday said was Tex flied out to center…was it too shallow for Jeter to score or what?

  561. The Real Greg says:

Stop criticising the man please. It’s very rude.

    • Kramerica Industries says:

      Which man, Joe or Mark?

      They both deserve it.

      • The Real Greg says:

Joe. Nobody mentioned the lineup order before the game. Therefore to crtiicise him for it is in hindsight and is unfair by the laws of logic.

        • The Troll says:

OMG. I hate you more and more with every comment. I would’ve commented, and in fact, DID, on Facebook! You know why? Because if you LIKE the Yankees on FB, they reveal the lineup nearly 4 hours before game-time. So, you know what I did? I said Girardi was an ass hat for fucking with a working formula. And, yeah, my logic is always flawless, babycakes.

    • WhittakerWalt says:

What the hell do you care if we criticize these guys? That’s what the game thread is for. They’re public figures. Sports figures. They’re paid very well to perform, and we’re entitled to judge their performances.
Is this White Knight schtick of yours for real?

  562. Terry Bollea says:

Terrifying thought — this game goes 17 or 18 innings — Yankees lose — they tie the O’s — they lose the playoff against the O’s — then they have to play a play-in — THEN, if they win that, they get to the real playoffs, with 27 extra innings in the last half-week under their belt.

  563. Cant believe they killed opie says:

Something has to be done about this
Bring in a sports shrink whatever.

  564. Mike N says:

Teix hit a homer last night, but it was supposed to be outrageous for Girardi to bat him cleanup today? Get a fucking grip, people.

    • BigBlueAL says:

If Cano was batting 3rd nobody would be complaining. The fact that Cano is hitting 5th behind Arod and Tex is the problem.

  565. Kramerica Industries says:

    And now a baserunner.

  566. RBC says:

    Get it together Sori

  567. BigBlueAL says:

Soriano couldnt challenge Pedroia, who is hitting with a broken finger, with a 3-2 fastball??

  568. Chilango says:

hahaha Soriano is afraid to challenge Pedroia

  569. Hummingbird S. says:

too many sliders. that’s when he gets in trouble.

  570. Kramerica Industries says:

Sori having trouble finishing. Not surprising, given he’s thrown damn near 40 pitches now.

  571. stuart a says:

they pinch hitting for chris suck stewart in the bottom of this inning?

I do.. Cervelli better get his gear out…..

  572. Winter says:

At first I didn’t get it, but now I see why Girardi left Soriano in. If the Yankees win tonight, they guarantee at least a tie for the division. If they lose, they could still end up the wildcard outright. A win tonight is much more important than maybe a win tomorrow.

    • CUYanks says:

I agree with this, as long as Girardi thinks Soriano won’t lose effectiveness with the high pitch count in this game.

    • BigBlueAL says:

Considering the alternatives left in the bullpen right now, have no problem at all with Sori pitching the 10th inning.

      • CUYanks says:

There is not a bigger spot really. For all Joe knows, it could be the last game he even ever pitches for NYY. No saving him.

  573. Captain_Turbo says:

    Get him out, MFIKY.

  574. Karl Krawfid says:

    GJ Sori

  575. Bartolo's Colon says:

for a second i though arod sailed that, please, one measly run now

  576. Get Phelps Up says:

    Martin’s 3rd walkoff upcoming.

  577. Hummingbird S. says:

no teix coming up, time to win this shit

  578. Mike N says:

OK. Now let’s score some runs.

  579. Kramerica Industries says:

Lead-off, walk-off home run hitting Russell Martin coming up, folks.

  580. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

That’s the last of our decent relievers. Win it here or we could lose it. I better see Chavy PH for Stewart. You carry 3 catchers for a reason.

  581. Rocky Road Redemption says:

The Mysterious Force is working its ass off today. It’ll take all of our skill and, dare I say it, guile to beat it.

  582. Kramerica Industries says:

Soriano ain’t pitching again until either Thursday, or Friday, or (hopefully) Saturday.

  583. stuart a says:

i go to lowe next inning if they do not win this now..

girardi better pinch hit for stewart.

is rapada hurt? he has not pitched much lately…

  584. Kramerica Industries says:

Oh shoot. Didn’t realize Martin left already. Oops.

  585. Karl Krawfid says:

Ibanez will do it agian folks.

  586. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Wow…that looked outside from here (the 1-1)

  587. The Real Greg says:

The bad call on the 1-1 led to that one

    • Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

Way outside. It forces one to swing. IMO, the reason this year has been a K crazy year, the zones seem bigger than ever in an effort to shorten the games, hence batters expanding the zone and umps wide, inside, low and up called zone.

  588. Kramerica Industries says:

    That was awful, CKurtis.

  589. Alkaline says:

May the Dark Lord strike again!

  590. CUYanks says:

If it comes to it, we’re pretty likely seeing Rapada against Loney.

  591. Mike N says:

    Holy moly.

  592. BigBlueAL says:

3 LH power hitters that inning vs Melancon and nothing. Ugh.

  593. Karl Krawfid says:

Taking a fastball that split the plate only to swing at garbage.

  594. Hummingbird S. says:

only Ibanez coould put up a decent AB..

  595. mt says:

A Cervelli sighting – let’s hope he does not do anything stupid.

    • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

…I just wanna see some fist pumps. I’ve been waiting all season for those pep-inducing fist pumps.

  596. Austin Aunelowitzky says:

If anyone needs a free life coach, I’ll be in NY in a few weeks.

  597. Alkaline says:

BAM BAM will end up doing it.

  598. stuart a says:

i do not use rapada yet, they will use the big 1b for loney and the guy is a better hitter.

  599. Kramerica Industries says:

    Oh man, Derek Lowe.

    This could get really ugly.

  600. Captain_Turbo says:

Oy, that could have gone better.

  601. Kramerica Industries says:

    …and there’s a 0 out baserunner for Boston.

    Oh boy.

  602. Chilango says:

Here we go. Lowe on the mound. Ass tightening time

  603. Hummingbird S. says:

where’s the binder? why not Rapada for Loney? Girardi waits for game 161 to reduce the number of pitchers used?

  604. Mike says:

    No Rapada?

  605. The Real Greg says:

Padilla’s coming in. Get Tex up

  606. The Troll says:

Lowe to lose the game? Meh. Ok. I guess I can handle that. Although, I could’ve sworn there was still a Rapada an an Eppeley hanging out in the outfield . . . I must be losin’ my mind.

  607. Kramerica Industries says:

Got the lead runner to 2nd anyway. That’s not good.

  608. Cy Pettitte says:

losing game 161 because of Lowe and Cervelli would be unbearable

  609. The Real Greg says:

So is Cervelli a defensive catcher too?

  610. Captain_Turbo says:

I think I just saw the ghost of Frankie Cervelli…

  611. True blue says:

    Catch the fucking ball Frankie

  612. Bartolo's Colon says:

    i missed that fist pump

  613. Get Phelps Up says:

    Walk Cirirao please.

  614. CUYanks says:

If. Pedro… I don’t even want to say it.

  615. Hummingbird S. says:

  616. BigBlueAL says:

    Ciriaco is feared.

  617. Karl Krawfid says:

    I am embarrassed

  618. Bartolo's Colon says:

is lowe really throwing ibb’s over 80 mph?

  619. Kramerica Industries says:

    IBB Ciriaco.

  620. Hummingbird S. says:

  621. Winter says:

Smart move walking George Herman Ciriaco.

  622. Mike N says:

    Nice job, Lowe.

  623. Get Phelps Up says:

Can we please please pleeeeeeeease have a walkoff now?

  624. Cy Pettitte says:

end this game now, I can’t take many more innings of this.

  625. The Troll says:

    And if THAT’S not a microcosm of the Yankee’s bizarre season . . .

  626. Hummingbird S. says:

    worked out. nice!

  627. Kramerica Industries says:

    I want pie.

    You want pie.

    Give us pie.

  628. Chilango says:

    Nice job by Lowe.

  629. Captain_Turbo says:

    Nicely done!

  630. mt says:

If either Ciriaco or Iglesias got a hit, it would be shame on us anyway.

    Great job by Lowe.

Can’t Ichiro hit a homer anytime he wants (given his legendary bat control) – if so, now is the time for it:-)

  631. JFH says:

    Yanks will win it here.

  632. CUYanks says:

Please let’s get it to Teixeira. Please!

  633. Get Phelps Up says:

According to Game Score, that game that Shields pitched tonight was the best pitched game in Rays history. (h/t YCPB on twitter)

  634. Adam says:

When Lowe has his sinker, he is still a moderately effective pitcher, eh?

  635. Mike N says:

  636. Effthisnoise says:

Well since the yanks got shut down by the guy with a 6 era, maybe they can hit one of the biggest scrubs in baseball

  637. Kramerica Industries says:

It was a Singleton-Cone booth when Ichiro walked off Mo in 2009.

    • Bartolo's Colon says:

i actually had a nightmare about that game

    • Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

I was AT that game, I left SafeCo early and saw it on Northwest Cable news the next morning and was shocked!

      • Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

I left as Mo came in. I was decked out in Yankees gear and was getting cursed out from being such a dick about how terrible the M’s were and Yanks were gonna crush them. Hummed enter sandman all the way to the car and I’m glad I left early because it would’ve been the equivent of someone urinating in my fruit loops.

        • Kramerica Industries says:

I was at a Rays/Yankees game in Sept. 2010 when Reid Brignac walked off the Yankees and propelled the Rays to first place.

Out of the ballpark before Brignac had rounded the bases. Sick to my stomach.

  638. Kramerica Industries says:

Alas, Ichiro’s flaw remains he does not know how to take ball 4.

  639. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

    Ichi…that was ball 4 buddy.

  640. Effthisnoise says:

Did cone really just say “sazuki with the chop stick”???

  641. Kramerica Industries says:

    Seven straight set down.

Not the time to stop getting on base, guys.

  642. Hummingbird S. says:

    this offense is pathetic.

  643. Get Phelps Up says:

    55 mph on that one.

  644. Adam says:

Wow, incredible piece of hitting there. 55 mphs!

  645. CG says:

wow, 55mph, ’twas indeed an eephus

  646. Mike N says:

    That was like whiffle ball!

  647. The Real Greg says:

Good hitting by swisher to wait on the Eephus

  648. Kramerica Industries says:

Padilla throws his eephus curveball. Swisher tells eephus curveball “Fuck you”.

  649. Hummingbird S. says:

here we go, runner on but they have to get through A-Rod and Teix before the best hitter on the team can hit. What sense does that make?

  650. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Alex…again. Please come through this time lol.

  651. Cy Pettitte says:

suprised Padilla isn’t hitting ARod with a pitch so he can then hit Teix with a pitch.

  652. Kramerica Industries says:

Would be nice to end that skid, Alex.

  653. CG says:

    He’s gonna do it

  654. flamingo says:

  655. Kramerica Industries says:

  656. The Real Greg says:

    The bad luck continues

  657. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  658. Mike N says:

  659. Adam says:

Man, have got to be kidding me.

  660. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

…hell of a catch by Ellsbury.

  661. Cy Pettitte says:

    ok fuck this game

  662. Hummingbird S. says:

no power. please someone retire this motherfucker.

  663. MannyGeee says:

Fuck you Jacoby. I want to go to bed and beat off already. stop catching that shit

  664. Kramerica Industries says:

  665. Anthony says:

    So damn close

  666. The Real Greg says:

You have to say this team is extremely unlucky.

  667. Hall and Nokes says:

    Alex Rodriguez: once good.

  668. Captain_Turbo says:

Wow. Really thought he got hold of that one.

  669. TomH says:

Pressing their luck with Lowe against these 3 guys, although I’m not sure what the alternative is. Mixing and matching? What did Freddy throw yesterday? A handful of pitches?

  670. toad says:

    Fifteen hits. Three runs. FWIW.

  671. stuart a says:

give arod a double on that 1 he actually hit the ball hard and not to the shortstop..

    change the rules for him..

  672. CG says:

Fifteen hits (and X more walks) and 3 runs…. don’t you just love that?

  673. BigBlueAL says:

Cant get mad at Arod cause he hit it hard but its just further proof of how much power he has lost.

  674. Kramerica Industries says:

Don’t put Ellsbury and his speed on with no outs.

    Oh God no.

  675. Karl Krawfid says:

    Cano had that ball.

    Need to check the D.

  676. Hummingbird S. says:

impossible to get a 1-2-3 inning against a triple-A lineup. But their scrubs can get 1-2-3 innings against the overpaid millionaires.

  677. stuart a says:

do not use eppley under any circumstances. HE SUCKS.

cano woudl have had that ball but Lowe had no clue.

yanks 1 for 20 qith men on base. that is the yanks in a nutshell.

  678. Kramerica Industries says:

Both teams are 3-41 with men on base tonight?

    Unreal ineptitude.

  679. The Real Greg says:

Wait a minute. The Yankees have 3 hits with RISP. How cant they be 1-20 with men on base?

  680. Adam says:

Could this game get any weirder at this point? And it is a freakin bird no less! Better not have been an Oriole. Satan.

  681. MannyGeee says:

    Fuck yo bucket….

    -Dat bird

  682. Anthony says:

Too funny. Might be a spy for the Orioles says Kay

  683. Mike N says:

  684. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

I’d love to have that guy’s job.

  685. Adam says:

  686. Get Phelps Up says:

    Cervelli walkoff coming.

  687. Effthisnoise says:

Alright damn it. Tex walk off redemption coming up

  688. Kramerica Industries says:

We don’t all want pie anymore.

    We fucking DEMAND PIE.

  689. Mike N says:

Huge DP!!!! NOW SCORE!!!!!! I wanna go the fuck to sleep!!

  690. RBC says:

I guess the bird is the word….

  691. Alkaline says:

Can I call a Cervelli walkoff?

  692. flamingo says:

    Nice DP. Let’s win now.

  693. Chilango says:

Well done Lowe. Good slider tonight. Let’s end this now I’m out of beers.

  694. Pasqua says:

That bird? Buck Showalter in disguise.

  695. stuart a says:

kay was wrong for a change,. bottom line the yansk cannot hit when it counts..

ibanez, jeter , and believe it or not swisher are over 300 with RISP rest of the team is pathetic…

  696. Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

Yankees aren’t 1 for 20 with men on. They’ve had the Raul HR and A-Rod hit and I thought one more…from memory without checking the box score.

  697. Captain_Turbo says:

All right then, how about a run to end this one, fellas?

  698. The Real Greg says:

I wonder if Bobby dares to leave Padilla out there.

  699. Austin Aunelowitzky says:

    Tex walk off.

  700. The Real Greg says:

Bobby V was scared into a pitching change

  701. Kramerica Industries says:

    Mountain Man Miller.

  702. Bartolo's Colon says:

really do not like october tex

  703. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Hit another soft grounder, Teix. Great cleanup hitter.

  704. MannyGeee says:

    Oh, Ok…. Fuck that.

  705. Bartolo's Colon says:

please cano a homer is our only hope

  706. The Real Greg says:

By the way the reason Tex is ahead of Cano is to allow Tex to get good pitches. Plus if Tex was behind Cano, they would pitch around Cano.

  707. Cy Pettitte says:

Nova is warming up…now or never guys.

  708. Hummingbird S. says:

Teix has left 9 on base. That’s simply amazing.

  709. j-rod says:

I know we’re all excitable right now, but what is the rational argument for using Tex in the four hole?

  710. Karl Krawfid says:

    Cervelli will end this.

    Screaming around the bases.

  711. Adam says:

Wow, Cervelli with the seriously changed batting stance.

  712. dkidd says:

time for a cervellian 72-hopper up the middle

  713. Chilango says:

Should have nailed this in the ninth. C’mon guys.

    • Anthony says:

This game would be over if not for Soriano… don’t get me wrong he’s been absolutely life-saving this season but he definitely hasn’t been sharp lately.

  714. Karl Krawfid says:

    Great at bat.

  715. Effthisnoise says:

    Lets go grandy

  716. Get Phelps Up says:

    Cervelli rocking the 1.000 OBP.

  717. Positive Scheister of Happiness says:

    This strike zone SUCKS!

  718. BigBlueAL says:

Miller gets Tex and Cano out but walks Cevelli??

  719. Adam says:

Woops, reply fail above. But who would be the emergency catcher?

  720. CUYanks says:

Pinch hit for Ibanez against LHP?

  721. Captain_Turbo says:

Well, it’s an HR or strikeout here.

  722. Mike N says:

Oh, please. End this game now, Raul. I am so sleepy. PLEASE!

  723. BigBlueAL says:

2 more walks and we are in the clear!!

  724. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle says:

Gotta pinch hit Raul here. I know he just walk Curtis, but Miller destroys LHH.

  725. Effthisnoise says:

Praying for back to back wild pitches here

  726. Kramerica Industries says:

I guess better than Andruw, right? Not feeling Ibanez vs. LHP.

  748. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Great time for the first time.

  749. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

And who started the rally? Cervelli, who they banished to AAA all season. He should have been up here all year giving us energy.

  750. Kramerica Industries says:

Raul Ibanez with the night of his fucking life! Well done, Sir.

  751. Adam says:

  762. BigBlueAL says:

  763. TomH says:

    Great win. Raul the Great!

  765. Rozay says:

  766. Scheister says:

Didn’t that ball hit Cervelli? I’ll take it but, yeah.

    • TomH says:

Umps want to get back to the hotel, have a drink, etc.

      • CUYanks says:

This isn’t wiffleball. You aren’t out on a peg.

        • Winter says:

If you’re going to be snarky learn the rules first. A baserunner hit by a batted ball is out.

        • Scheister says:

          From the official rule book Rule 7.08: the runner is out if “He is touched by a fair ball in fair territory before the ball has touched or passed an infielder. The ball is dead and no runner may score, nor runners advance, except runners forced to advance. EXCEPTION: If a runner is touching his base when touched by an Infield Fly, he is not out, although the batter is out;

Rule 7.08(f) Comment: If two runners are touched by the same fair ball, only the first one is out because the ball is instantly dead.

If runner is touched by an Infield Fly when he is not touching his base, both runner
          and batter are out.”

Rule 7.09 is also relevant. The runner is not out if 1) the ball was first deflected by a fielder or 2) if the umpire is convinced that the ball went through or past the fielder untouched, and in the umpire’s judgment no other infielder had the chance to make a play on the ball. If, in the judgment of the umpire, the runner deliberately and intentionally kicks such a batted ball on which the infielder has missed a play, then the runner shall be called out for interference.”
However, if in the umpire’s judgment the runner intentionally kicks the batted ball, the runner shall be called out for interference.

If a runner is touched by a batted ball in foul territory he is not out though.

          • CG says:

I just watched the cervelli run about 10 times in a row… the ball may have hit him, but from the rules posted about 15 posts above this one, he shouldn’t have been out anyway. If “the umpire is convinced that the ball went through or past the fielder untouched, and in the umpire’s judgment no other infielder had the chance to make a play on the ball”, the runner can be safe. IMO, the ball went past 3B and SS had no chance to make a play.

      • Scheister says:

So I’m not crazy, it may have actually hit him, right?

  767. Dela G says:

    great win

  768. forensic says:

Cervelli was dangerously close to running into that ball. Boy would that have sucked.

  769. CUYanks says:

Have to root for the Rangers to lose tonight. Then if NYY win the AL East, they’re guaranteed to be the number 1 seed, correct?

  770. Rocky Road Redemption says:

  771. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

The only thing standing between us and the AL East crown is Dice K and his 7.68 ERA. If Oakland can win 1 of 2 we can get best record as well. Amazing that there’s such a fine line between #1 seed and #5.

  772. The Real Greg says:

A guy who alot of people thought should have been cut in the preseason now may have won the Yankees a division title.

jj and AKA Tom I have my Rutgers essay completed. You guys want to email me? Or give me your emails?

  774. Get Phelps Up says:

    Go A’s!

  775. CUYanks says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but a Texas loss tonight GUARANTEES we cannot be facing Verlander 2 games in a 5-game series.

  776. BigBlueAL says:

Not for nothing but not sure I want the A’s to win the division. Not looking forward to Texas winning the Wild Card game and playing the Yankees in the ALDS. Though how freaking awesome would it be if the Orioles beat Texas in the Wild Card game and play the Yankees in the ALDS.

  777. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

They mentioned this in the broadcast- There is something wrong with the Tigers, who have the 7th best record in the AL, being the only team sitting pretty and they get to host Games 1 and 2. What an advantage. There’s something really wrong about that.

The other 4 playoff teams, clearly superior all season, have to fight it out for who gets 1 and 2 seeds and who has to play a 1 game WC. ANd one of these 4 is going to have to travel across country to play in that 1 game WC. There’s something wrong about the way they set this up.

  778. Rocky Road Redemption says:

The Orioles have to be so pissed right now. They had a chance to tie us when we were down 4 runs in the 14th against Oakland, a chance to pull ahead when we were down 4 against Toronto, and now a chance to tie us when we were down by 2 in the ninth against the Red Sox.

Memo to Orioles fans: FUCK YOU. Now you know how we’ve felt all second half.

  779. CG says:

I just watched the cervelli run about 10 times in a row… the ball may have hit him, but from the rules posted about 15 posts above this one, he shouldn’t have been out anyway. If “the umpire is convinced that the ball went through or past the fielder untouched, and in the umpire’s judgment no other infielder had the chance to make a play on the ball”, the runner can be safe. IMO, the ball went past 3B and SS had no chance to make a play.
