The Yankees can clinch the AL East crown tonight, but they’ll need some help. The postseason eliminated Rays will first need to beat the Orioles again, and then Mother Nature will have to chill out with all this rain. It hasn’t been pouring in New York, but it’s been raining on-and-off since about noon and the forecast says it’ll stop sometime Thursday morning. With two important games to play between now and then, expect the Yankees and Red Sox to wait this one out as long as possible. Here’s the starting nine…

Hey Tom Riddle (and others), I wanted to finish that conversation yesterday about the Sox starting Zach Stewart.
Did Valentine or anyone on the Sox actually acknowledge that they wanted to line up Buchholz against the Yanks? It’s one thing to play hard to play the spoiler, but it seems kind of ridiculous to publicly acknowledge that you’re trying to help one team and hurt another.
(Of course, it’s hilarious that Buchholz ended up having an even worse start than Stewart.)
I don’t know if he came out and said it, however what other reason would he have?
Yeah, I mean I don’t see another reason, but I’ve never heard of a team explicitly trying to spoil only one team’s playoff run at the expense of spoiling another’s. Usually teams just try hard, they don’t rearrange their pitchers to be favorable to a particular team, especially taking the step of starting a shitty pitcher who has no reason to be in their rotation.
