Teixeira takes home 2012 Fielding Bible Award
ByFor the first time in his career, Mark Teixeira has won the Fielding Bible Award at first base for his defensive skills. Albert Pujols had won the award five times in the last six years, but he finished third in the voting behind Tex and Adrian Gonzalez in 2012. Teixeira received 95 of 100 possible points in the scoring system and was probably long overdue for this award, which I feel is a far better representation of defensive ability than Gold Gloves. Tex has a few of those already.
Brett Gardner won the left field award in both 2010 and 2011, but his season-long injury took him out of the running this year. Alex Gordon won it instead.

Awesome. He takes alot of shit on this site from readers, but he really is a GREAT defender, and makes guys like Jeter and A-Rod look spectacular instead of just really good. Very rarely does he miss a difficult scoop, and besides game 4 of the ALCS, he is damn near a wall over there at 1st.
Congrats Tex.
Congrats!
b-b-b-ut I thought Teixeira was worthless and should be sold for scraps…..
Congrats, Tex. It is a honor to watch you play first base for this team.
Tex is amazing at first, truly top-notch. Other than the doodyball he made on first base during the ALCS.
maybe I’m biased, but I still think Donnie Baseball was even better. You know what I loved about Donnie? The way he would touch his glove to the runner after EVERY SINGLE pick-off throw, not matter whether the runner was clearly safe or not. Great, great habit to get into to put a little more pressure on the runner and to make the pitcher feel even 1% more like it wasn’t a wasted throw over.
Tex is the best fielding Ist baseman I have ever seen!!!
Well deserved. Some of his plays are amazing. His idol is Don Mattingly and you can see it in a lot of his plays that he must be channeling Donnie Baseball.
Mattingly was great. I also felt Tino was also a great first baseman (Tino 1 during the Joe Torre Dynasty run). I have never seen Albert Pujols play day after day play first but Tex is certainly the best or tied with Pujols.
Congrats!
