Yanks go down like wimps offensively, Orioles force Game Five

What happens when an entire lineup is slumping at once? You score one run on a ground out in 13 innings. CC Sabathia gets the ball with the season on the line tomorrow, maybe the rest of the Yankees will show up as well.

  1. Homerun or Bust says:

Homerun or Bust! It’s the Yankee way!

  2. Knoxvillain says:

Any bets that this is tomorrow’s lineup:

    • captain kiwi says:

i’ll be working while the game is on, but i’ll still watch the encore, win or lose. the offense is slumping for sure, but it’s nowhere near as terrible an offense as most of you are making it out to be. not to mention cc is on the mound. how are only a few of us confident?

also, you can fuck yourself knoxvillain. the naysayers are shitty but you’ve managed to eclipse them.

      • Andrew 518 says:

-offense is slumping for sure, but it’s nowhere near as terrible an offense as most of you are making it out to be

Ummm…. I shudder to think of it being worse, you mean it could be worse?

        • captain kiwi says:

well, we haven’t been shutout yet. maybe grasping at straws, but still – i shudder to think how nats/as/tigers/giants fans felt on their respective games in which they threw up goose eggs.

          • Andrew 518 says:

True in that we haven’t been shut out, but this isn’t a problem limited to one game. I think that it would be hard to suggest that those respective teams have struggled offensively to the level of the Yankees over the course of the series. Perhaps Baltimore has struggled as much, but that means nothing…the point is to beat them.

      • Knoxvillain says:

Please don’t hurt my feelings over the internet.

  3. Rahul says:

fuckers suck. i love how everyone kills a-rod. granderson must be sucking girardi’s dick to continue being in this lineup with a below .100 ba

  4. Eddard says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself, Mike. CC Sabathia better pitch a shutout tomorrow because that’s the only way he will win. What a squandered opportunity. Detroit can line up Verlander on full rest for Game 3 of the ALCS. If we want CC to pitch Game 3 it will have to be on short rest. Girardi may have cost us the ALDS by not PH for ARod in the 8th with the winning run on 3rd and he may have cost us the ALCS with that move even if we win tomorrow.

    • scottnar says:

I love how Giaradi is a hero last night but cost them them multiple series with one non move. This response is a joke as are you. If he pinch hits for him he just walks Ibanez.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Which is why he should have PH Chavez there. They still probably walk him, but Swish probably has a better chance of getting a run than ARod does facing O’Day.

Though it is Swisher and he may well have just GIDP. Still a better chance of getting the run in than ARod against O’Day.

  5. JLC 776 says:

Worst playoff baseball I’ve ever watched – by both teams. I’m sure I’m over reacting, but it doesn’t change how disgusted I feel right now.

  6. Matt DiBari says:

The Yankees have already established that they can’t hit *any* of the Orioles mediocre starters, so the highlight of tomorrow may well just be when Nick Swisher decides its time to just start rolling around right field again.

I mean Jesus Christ, Joe Saunders.

  7. forensic says:

And thank you MLB for not allowing most than half the Country to be able to watch the game tomorrow. It’s not like it’s a Game 5 or anything.

  8. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    • FIPster Doofus says:

    • mustang says:

It will never happen, but I agree 100%.

    • forensic says:

Why does Cano get off scott-free? He’s arguably been the 2nd worst hitter on the team, with only Granderson swinging away with the title of worst. I get the potential impact, but even he shouldn’t be locked into a lineup spot.

      • FIPster Doofus says:

Cano is absolute garbage right now, but there are viable alternatives to Granderson and A-Rod. That’s why they’re getting the “bench us” treatment. On the other hand, there isn’t a Gardner or Chavez type waiting in the wings behind Cano.

        • forensic says:

As pitiful and sad as it is, truth is Nix is having better AB’s than Cano. No, I wouldn’t start him instead, but it’s the truth.

I also wouldn’t start Chavez as his AB’s have been nothing impressive either, but at this point it’s almost choosing which player you want to lose with as there is only so much you can fix in the span of 15 hours considering how much dead weight there is among these offensive players.

          • FIPster Doofus says:

I agree with all of that, for sure. As you said, Nix over Cano flat-out won’t happen, even though Nix is better right now. I just hope Chavez and Gardner play in Game 5. That’s as realistic as it gets with respect to big changes for tomorrow.

      • Eddard says:

Because there’s nobody to replace Cano with. Chavy is a good option vs a RHP tomorrow and Gardner can do no worse than Granderson. Joe needs to make those changes tomorrow.

      • David N says:

        You can’t sit everyone.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

        Somebody has to play.
Granderson is completely lost. ARod can’t hit righties.

There are just too many hitters who should be benched/demoted in the lineup.

        • forensic says:

For all the replies, I didn’t mean it in terms of being in the lineup, I meant it in terms of being in the 3/4 spot, though it’s not that absurd considering what he’s doing. I just wouldn’t have him above 5 in the lineup right now.

It’s pitiful that they don’t even have enough guys doing anything to fill up just the first 4 spots of the lineup.

  9. Mike says:

    That really sucked.

  10. Eddard says:

And ARod should be platooned for the rest of the playoffs. Play him vs LHP, play Chavy vs RHP. Alex can’t hit RHP. He can’t even put the ball in play vs them. He’s worthless. So is Granderson. These two should not play tomorrow.

    • stuart a says:

swisher is worthless also… tex is worth about a penny if you use a guy who runs like Jose Molina as a contact player…

there whole offense is horrid…. jeter, ibanez and the 6 dwarfs..

ibanez will be in the lineup tommorrow and so should chavez….sit ichiro or granders or swisher and arod….

granderson has a chance against a hard throwing righty so maybe he can get lucky….

the options are bleak…when you are counting on russel martin hitting 7th you got problems….

      • TheLittleShip says:

        “there whole offense is horrid…”

I am just wondering? Are you trying to spell a real difficult word like ‘their’?

    • DT says:

Might as well platoon Cano for lefties. Cano hits lefties worse than Arod hits righties.

    • FIPster Doofus says:

A-Rod should be platooned for the rest of his career. He’s done as an everyday player. And you’re right – him and Grandy both have to sit tomorrow. I’d say sit Swisher as well, but he’s the least of the three evils and there isn’t anyone to put in for him.

Chavez and Gardner in, Rodriguez and Granderson out.

  11. JonS says:

Gardner HAS to start tomorrow for Granderson right? If not, he’s got to have some serious dirt of Girardi..or Girardi’s the F’n idiot we think he is.

  12. celerino sanchez says:

If it doesn’t happen tomorrow it will happen in the next series. Joe Saunders isn’t Sandy Koufax. Hopefully this will make off season decision easy. Spend money on pitching. Speed and Defense. What’s the over under on TEx, A-Rod, Granderson K’s tomorrow. These guys can really hit in the clutch.

  13. Eddard says:

    Our hottest hitters are-

Jeter – He was the only one trying
Nix – Joe PH for him and not Alex. He went 2/3 and his out he almost hit out of the park. Great move, Joe.

    • Captain_Turbo says:

I said it before that if Ibanez wasn’t in the top of the lineup yesterday, there was no justice… and there wasn’t. I’d rather have seen him in the field with his mediocre defense and hot bat than watch Grandy and Swish swat at flies all night…

      • Captain_Turbo says:

And just for giggles, why not shake up the lineup if your bench players are hitting and your “stars” aren’t? Give this a try tonight:

        Jeter SS
        Martin C
        Nix DH
        Ibanez LF
        Cano 2B
        Swisher RF
        Teixera 1B
        ARod 3B
        Suzuki CF

(Yes, Mr. Granderson, you get to sit in a corner for a while and think about what you’ve done.)

  14. Ace says:

This is an insane analogy and I’m probably saying it because I’m delirious from being tired. But I feel like this is the PMS thing women go through when they hang out together. All their cycles sync and they become dragon ladies at the same time.

That’s what’s happening with this lineup. They’re having their periods at the same time. I’m surprised we haven’t seen any bears near Yankee stadium yet.

  15. Gregory says:

The Yanks looked utterly pathetic at the plate tonight, absolutely disgraceful. Joe should just start Ibanez, Chavez and Gardner because it honestly cannot get any worse. No need to even mention the names because we have all been sickened by it for 13 innings (and for the most part the last 2 games). There are basically 6-7 AUTOMATIC OUTS in the middle of the order every single inning. If the offensive woes continue its going to be a long (fruitless) game 5……..

    • dave says:

I love how everyone says sit arod or sit grandy or sit tex..cant sit everybody and the fact is these guys are everyday players, maybe not arod, but the rest are..the reason Grandy is still playing is bc he can crush one out at any time, he does have that threat even if he hasn’t done it yet.

I also love swisher as much as the rest of you but he is 2-15 and one of the worst playoff hitters of all time! according to some, he still gets to play?? So what you guys would bench arod, swish, and grandy for chaves, gardner, and ibanez? I wouldnt, may work for a game but what happens in ALCS?? if we get that far..fact is, this is OUR team, OUR lineup – we go to battle with what got us here

  16. Matt says:

What will be Girardi’s excuse for playing Granderson tonight, and then leaving him in to bat for himself every time?

His defense? Then put fucking Gardner in there, who is better defensively and would probably make the pitchers work harder.

    • dave says:

no..the fact he can hit 1-2 homers in any given game..we conveniently forget his power when he is struggling, but he has hit 80 homers past two years..ya he sucks big time right now, but its do or die time, gotta play him..and why bench him but not swish?? swish is 2-15 and is one of worst playoff hitters of all time!

      • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Have you watched the games? Granderson looks completely lost. Swisher is at least having semi-competive AB’s. They don’t have enough players to bench all the strugglers. The worst have been Granderson overall and ARod vs. RHP. If they had more viable alternatives, others could be benched as well. They don’t.

        • dave says:

of course i’ve watched the games, and Im lucky that I get the YES network so i’ve watched most regular season games too..this is our lineup-the guys who got us here..as bad as granderson’s been, it only takes one swing and hes done his job, that’s all im saying. I just dont like the people who want to bench our 3-4-5-6 hitters lol

  17. Dykstradamus says:

Let it be known that on Oct. 6th in the year 2012 AD, the great Dykstradamus made the following proclamation

Ten predictions for the upcoming series:
    1) The series will go 5 games.
    - Check
    2) The Yanks will win 1 in a blow out.
    - Check, game 1 Yanks 7 – Orioles 2
    3) The Orioles will win 2 by one run.
    - Check, game 2 O 3 – Y 2, game 4 O 2 – Y 1
    4) Hughes will pitch lights out.
    - Check, 6.2 IP 4 H 1 ER 8 K / 3 BB
    5) Pettitte will pitch lights out.
    - Check, (lights out for a 40 yr old)
    6) Manny Machado will become a household name.
    - Check, will win series MVP after hitting 2 HR in game 7, and did you see that throw?
    7) The Yankees will strand 1000 guys on base.
    - Checkmate

And so it has been written, and so it shall come to pass.

  18. Jeff says:

It’s amazing how the entire lineup slumps every October. This would be a bad offensive series had they faced the Phillies, and the Orioles staff isn’t half as good.

  19. The DonSlaught says:

Gardner has to start tomorrow – Girardi can tell Grandy – hey I gave you 124 chances to let your bat even scrape the ball and you couldn’t do it so we’re going this way tonight

  20. forensic says:

Basically, three offensive players have shown up this series:

One has very little power and has hit like it, one has hit for literally no power, and the other has absurdly not started three of the four games.

Beyond that, there are 9 guys who are invisible, with only one that could be argued as barely showing up. That about sums it up.

  21. Here Comes the Pizza says:

  22. Laz says:

Honestly I thought the bullpen management was terrible. Was no need to take Drob out after only 8 pitches. He had a week off then pitched 2 yesterday, he should’ve been able get 20 pitches. Then 2 innings from soriano, then joba.

    • Laz says:

I fully expected it to get to the 13th and I think that joe should have prepared for that situation.

    • forensic says:

I would’ve left Robertson in too, but he didn’t have a week off. He’s the only one who pitched in Games 1 and 2, so he’s pitched in all 4 games, with one day off.

      • Laz says:

Game 1 was only 1 batter. At least let him face a few more batters, if you brought him in you expected around 15 pitches, so take him out when he gets there.

    • David N says:

I agree, but would it have really mattered? Both D-Rob and Soriano were going to be done by the 13th.

  23. DT says:

Forget Arod for a second and lets talk about Cano’s .111 which is lower than what Arod is hitting. Also a much lower OBP. He’s supposed to be the best hitter on the team with ARod older and declining. Yet he’s hitting worse than a guy who is 37 and coming off a Hand injury.

    • Laz says:

It’s not all arod, he got on base twice in 5 ab. He left people on base, but so did every other single NYY starter.

      • DT says:

Exactly. At least Arod got on base twice. Swisher 0-5 Grandy 0-5 Cano 0-6. Cano is far worse because Tex got on base 4 time today and Cano grounded out weakly almost every time. Hell he would have rolled into a DP one first and third had Tex no had a huge lead. Same with first and second. He rolled over another gorund ball but got it closer to the first base side to avoid the DP. He has been god fucking awful in his ABs. Arod sees pitches and can’t make contact. Cano goes up and swings at whatever the fuck he sees.

        • Laz says:

Swish had 2 good stong hits, they just didn’t seem to fly very good. My biggest frusteration was with cano, Two times he pretty much killed a big inning. 1 and 3rd 1 out and all he can manage is a weak groundball to 2nd. 1st and 2nd 0 outs and all you can manage is another weak groundball to 2nd.

          • DT says:

Cano has no discipline right now and i think he’s worse than Arod since Alex can at least draw a walk or hit a lefty. Also Cano is going up on bigger spots and he’s not picking up his team mates. in the 8th he got head of Matsuz, he could have taken a walk to load the bases and give us 2 chances to score a run viva a out. Instead he basically bunted (close to a DP) and said here Alex go face this tough right hander. Also Alex has the excuse of decline and his hand injury. What excuse does Cano have for being this piss poor?

    • Captain Gift Basket says:

Let’s talk about Swisher and Granderson, too. They are utterly useless. Take your chances with Ibanez’ defense and I’d rather see Gardner swing one-handed then to ever see Granderson grace a batters box again.

      • DT says:

Yea they have been fucking horrible too. But Cano is our clean up hitter and all he’s doing is rolling over every pitch and not bother to wait for a pitch to hit.

  24. ANSKY says:

I always understood that good pitching beat good hitting in the playoffs, especially since we usually faced a team from the west or central division. However, these guys have seen the O’s 18 times this year! Pathetic doesn’t even begin to cover tonight’s showing.

  25. Eddard says:

And now even if CC pitches a shut out, and that’s what it will take to win, we have to go 5 starters in the ALCS. Here’s the rotation-

    CC(3 days rest)

Gotta go CC in Game 3 vs Verlander, who will be on full rest, so that you can bring him back in Game 7 vs Verlander if it goes that far. What a screw up by Girardi not pinch hitting for ARod in the 8th when you had your best chance to win. What a mistake.

    • Laz says:

Is not solely Arod’s fault. I realize that you like to pile on arod all the time, but he got on base 2/5 ab today. Also every single NYY starter left people on base today, don’t blame just one hitter, it is the whole lineup’s failure to produce today.

    • BigBlueAL says:

Kuroda could start Game 2 on 3 days rest if they wanna risk it. If not I actually think Nova might make the start.

    • Captain Gift Basket says:

I wouldn’t worry about the ALCS – they’re done tomorrow, unless Girardi has the cajones to bench Swish and Grandy.

  26. Dan Gold says:

  27. Chris says:

Girardi is a butcher. How can scumbags Rodriguez and Swisher hit in the 8th inning? Swisher, Granderson and Rodriguez can sit this one out. Fuck them. Only way they win tomorrow is if CC pitches a shutout and they still might lose. Pathetic.

  28. BigBlueAL says:

Of all the playoff losses Ive seen since 1995 (most of them heartbreaking since the Yankees have never gotten swept) losing tomorrow would be by far the most disappointing of all of them. Even worse than 2004 or last year. If they lose tomorrow I dunno how I would be able to root for and watch this team next year if they stay in tact which will most likely happen considering the mandate to get to under 190 mil by 2014.

I know Yankee fans are spoiled and hell Im a die-hard Knicks fan as well so ripping this Yankee team when they are more successful than any Knick team Ive watched since 2000 is stupid but seriously losing this series to the Orioles in this way if it happens I just dont know how to handle that lol.

Either way let us all vent tonight cause we all deserve to but come tomorrow as much as right now Im feeling like I dont even care if they lose tomorrow cause Im done with this team I will be rooting and hoping like crazy they win Game 5.

  29. Hummingbird S. says:

at this point, you can not start A-Rod… he and Granderson are strictly platoon bats for the remainder of the postseason. I much rather see Chavez, Gardner and Ibanez tomorrow.

    • Andrew 518 says:

Problem is Chavez plays for A-rod and does what? Gets more hits, doesn’t solve the problem that no one drives him in. Not making excuses for A-rod, but this is a team wide failure. Just inserting Chavez and praying he hits the big HR just perpetuates the struggles of this offense. Even bad teams can hit an RBI double once and a while.

  30. 27 rings says:

I’m amazed that Ibanez didn’t start. Say what you will about Torre, but he would have made changes. This line up is a disgrace. Please release ARod and do not re sign Swisher or Martin.

    • FIPster Doofus says:

At worst, Ibanez should’ve hit in the eighth.

      • forensic says:

He had great numbers against Saunders and Grandy bad ones. Say what you will about batter vs. pitcher numbers, but you consider that along with how they’re swinging overall, and it’s appalling to me that Ibanez was sitting again in favor of Granderson.

Ibanez was hitting well at the end of the season and is hitting well in this series. Yet he’s been on the bench for 3 of the 4 games. That is beyond absurd.

  31. forensic says:

How long till the Twins are good again so the Yankees can play them in an ALDS?

  32. mustang says:

Something has to be done about Granderson he just looks totally lost.

  33. 27 rings says:

Bullpen? Who cares who pitches! This offense can’t score. They can’t even make the defense work. There ave been no great defensive pays because nobody hits the ball hard.

  34. g says:

Granderson fucking sucks, oh but who really pisses me off that would be fucking Swisher, He always fucking smiling laughing about everything well I sure hope he drops dead. Yankees shouldn’t offer him a fucking penny in the off season. Hell Nate MaClouth that dead meat is murdering Yanks while Swisher and His buddy Cano play like bunch of pantsies. And I clearly remember how Mike was protecting Cano and Swisher all year when they were slumping but commong enough is enough! All three Cano, Granderson and Swisher should be lost during off season. Hell bring Mason Williams from single A I would rather have him or stick Gardner in Center, Can’t be any worse.

  35. Furthermore, now it will be almost impossible for me to watch the game for a large portion tomorrow.

  36. Ethan says:

CC either throws a no-no or a shutout or the yankees lose. Offense: WAKE THE FUCK UP!

  37. mustang says:

They are going to win in walk off fashion tomorrow because that just the way this team is.

I call A-Rod to hit the walk off.

  38. wow says:

    such a sorry team.

  39. stuart a says:

    swisher with some more drivel…

a frat boy who is a goof ball…

can the guy get a hit in our lifetime. he wants CC to bail him out for about the 20th time….

Swisher and his smirk cannot leave town soon enough for me….you figure he drives in a run on occassion, i do not expect much but something once in a while…

  40. asdf says:

All we needed in the 8th inning was a contact hitter. All Girardi needed to do was execute the same pinch-hit maneuver as last night. Somehow this time he chose not to. Frankly, even Nunez would have been better to have than A-Rod in that spot–all we needed was contact and it was fairly obvious that A-Rod wasn’t going to provide it. It was a stunningly bad managerial decision that may have cost us a trip to the ALCS.

    • dalelama says:

Bingo, Girardi actually screwed up yesterday by not starting Ibanez at DH rather than Achoke. Thankfully that mistake last night didn’t cost us the game like his failure to pinch hit tonight for our pinstriped version of Mama Cass probably did.

  41. Just too disappointed right now says:

This is what happens when the Yankees face a bunch of cy young pitching like the Orioles…oh wait

  42. Fin says:

Well, I didnt expect the Yankees to win the ALCS. If they can win tomorrow a series against Detroit would be a nice bonus. I think its a 50/50 game tomorrow night. I dont think CC gives the Yankees any advantage as the Yankees make all of their pitchers look like Clemens in his prime (minus Johnson, thank god for him or this would have been a very short series). I mean the last inning O’Day pitched, he looked pretty gassed and the Yankees couldnt even get a guy on base, what was that his 10th inning pitched this series?

  43. stuart a says:

Verlander with a CG. He is a total stud….

the tigers with that bullpen are going to the WS… with jony peralta at SS and other big problems will out tough the yanks if the yanks squek by the minor league team they are playing..

robert andino and the other shmo at 2b, and a bunch of hacks… adam jones will come up big tommorrow that is my worse nightmare……

  44. DT says:

One more game of Arod looking lost vs righties, Cano rolling over pitch, Grandy striking out every AB and Swish flying out weakly. At least Tex has gotten over his postseason problems.

    • stuart a says:

yep tex got over his postseason problems if you are blind and stupid. get back to me when the piece of crap drives in a run..

he is doing ok for a 9th place hitter… the guy cannot drive in a run if they allowed him to bribe the other team…

      • Need Pitching & Hitting says:

he has driven in a run…..has more postseason rbi’s than ike davis……throw him a parade……give him an extension….

      • DT says:

Are you stupid? He can’t drive in runs when he doesn’t have ABs with RISP. The one time he had RISP he got on base. his OBP this series is well above .400. Dumbass. Go throw your computer in a fire and save everyone the trouble.

  45. Joe M says:

Do people realize at all that at one point in the game, A-Rod was 2 of our 5 base runners? No matter how much of a “choker” you think he is, he still had a better day than Ichiro, Robbie, Swisher, Martin and Granderson.

I applaud Girardi for not making dumb-headed knee jerk reactions and continuing to play the players that actually are actually the best at their given positions on this team.

  46. hammelhalloffame says:

i just came back from the future and here’s the numbers for hammel tomorrow – 8 innings one run on 4 hits – strikes out 8 – yankees lose. also btw he goes on to throw three no-hitters for the rest of the postseason and hits a grandslam to win the world series. baltimore is renamed hammel-town. he also becomes president and moves the capital to hammel-town.

  47. Mark says:

Outside of Ibanez, has anyone hit the ball harder than Nix the past two nights, that’s just sad.

    • jm says:

which is exactly why joe pinchhit for nix – don’t want that to keep happpening

      • Andrew 518 says:

Why on earth do you not give Nix a shot there, use Ibanez for Swisher the next inning, (or Granderson or anyone other than Nix) deffense? Because Ibanez is more of a liability in OF than Nunez in IF?

  48. Kiko Jones says:

I also didn’t think this team would win the ALDS—that massive RISP fail is deadly in the post-season—but I have hope they’ll pull it out tomorrow with a blowout behind CC. But the truth is, production-wise, tonight was a repeat of last night. The only exception is one guy had to hit a HR the tying run AND another HR for the winning run. You don’t hit the lottery 2 days in a row. Or, this ain’t the 2001 WS. (Whichever analogy works for you.) The Yankee season ends tomorrow or next week–beating DET is a long shot–and RISP fail will be the culprit.

I would LOVE to be proven wrong, of course.

  49. stuart a says:

with a fly ball to the outfield the game is over in the 8th and he had a chance earlier..

wehn performances equal to robert andinho or marco scutaro are considered the standard the player needs to retire. btw he also makes about $30 mill per year… what are you his butler???

arod sucks and yes so does swisher and grandy etc.

    they are not mutually exclusive….

check out the slugging % of these ladies, you may cry so have tiissues with you when you look…

Everyone needs to just relax, has the offense sputtered horribly? Yes no question about it. But they have the big fella on the hill and this team has heart and moxy and will find a way to get it done at home. If you don’t believe this stadium has a little magic in it you weren’t watching the game last night, I am all for shaking up this lineup for sure. Start Gardy for Grandy maybe. Def have Raul and Chavez in there and see what happens. You gotta believe

    • Kiko Jones says:

I too, have hope. But please refrain from using the 1973 Mets’ rallying cry. Thanks.

    • stuart a says:

heart and moxy… they have a few guys who do….

when swisher and cano and tex or grandy or arod get a big hit wake me up…

can they win tommorrow? Of course the O’s are not that good…

but do not count on that. what is likeable about this team? yes Ibanez at 40 being clutch and kuroda having a nice season and phelps development and robertson doing his thing, and Jeter turning back the clock, but that is about it…

they had 1 guy with over 100 rbi’s and the guy struck out 190 + times and hit 230…. the quote stud had 96 rbi’s and hit under 250 with RISP I think about 220….

thsi team is not likeable a bunch of misfits beat them tonight with waiver guys, retreads, and 20 year olds……

    • dalelama says:

Heart and moxy??? This team almost squandered a ten game lead to a AAAA squad. Win tomorrow and lost to Detroit or just lose tomorrow, pick your poison.

  51. Hans Moleman says:

Kurtis cannot believe a word of this non-sense he is spewing

  52. forensic says:

At least A-Rod can admit some of the issues he’s having.

Swisher and Granderson are in such denial about what they’re doing, they just sound like they don’t care and are completely clueless on what’s happening out there.

    • stuart a says:

no he can’t he said he felt good at the plate and had a few good AB’s..

the guy got a nice single to left, does he need a parade for that?????

    • DT says:

Did anyone ask Cano why he’s hitting like shit yet?

      • forensic says:

They talked to him yesterday, and he basically did the same thing as Granderson and Swisher. They didn’t show him tonight, just A-Rod, Swisher, and Granderson.

        • DT says:

Cano pisses me off more than anyone. He’s given more chances and failed harder than Alex, Swisher and Grandy right now. His Plate approach is mind numbing and this is supposed to be the guy who carries our offense. Arod’s struggles has hidden the fact that Cano is playing like shit in the heart of the line up.

  53. Rich in NJ says:

This offense has underperformed previous Yankee teams all season, but they shouldn’t be this freakin’ bad, and A-Rod isn’t the only struggling player that should be PH for.

  54. CUYanks says:

To win the WS, CC was going to have to win some big games for the Yankees. It just so happens tomorrow is one of them. All hands on deck. If the Yankees can even score 3-4 runs, I like their chances.

  55. tipsie says:

Haven’t read all the posts, but this is what Cano lacks. One week ago, couldn’t have been any more set up to carry a team, dominate a series. His approach sucks. Missing hittable fastballs, no patience when required, that’s Cano. Showalter no longer has to worry about the “best player beating you.” Cano’s just like the rest of them.

  56. CUYanks says:

Keep in mind, the Orioles offense has actually been WORSE this series than that of the Yankees (believe it or not). All the Yankees might need is one decent inning offensively.

    • Rich in NJ says:

Their pitching is worse too, so I’m not sure that’s right.

      • CUYanks says:

Maybe, but the pitching staffs aren’t switching teams for tomorrow, and CC’s the best the Yankees have. Hammel hasn’t pitched even 6 full innings since 7/7. Also, I have to like the Yankees lineup slightly more against a righty, with Ibanez definitely starting and Cano/Ichiro with the platoon advantage.

    • forensic says:

All the Yankees have had is one inning so far.

Outside that 9th inning (about 32 innings for each team):

      O’s: 9 runs, 30 hits
      Yanks: 8 runs, 28 hits

I know that one inning counts, but damn have they been pitiful.

If not for Jim Johnson shitting himself twice, they may be down 4-0 in this series already…

    • Andrew 518 says:

But these are the guys we are trying to beat right? So this is supposed to make me feel better? What about this team leads you to believe that that there is one big inning on the way?

  57. CUYanks says:

Let’s just imagine the Yankees got stuck in the 1-game WC playoff, but instead of a pass to the ALDS on the line, a win gives the Yankees direct entry into the ALCS.

    • Yankonymous says:

      That is better.

First off, we need to oust Selig who created this crazy first round bye. Now we got to worry about the Yankees being cold after such a long layoff…

Man, I wonder if Swisher will break out of his playoff funk?

  58. Nick in NC says:

Do you guys honestly think theres nothing wrong with arod’s hand at th is point?

Everyone dogs him, but he was behind on an 85mph fastball he’s obvs overcompensating for his wrist.

That same injury has derailed some very good players seasons and careers.

He is nowhere near what he used to be, but he’s still not this bad either.

  59. Karl Krawfid says:

Phil Hughes gives up 1 run and we lost.

1 run at home and we lost.
