Sherman: Yankees expected to bottom-feed for rotation depth
King: Yankees have yet to make Martin an offer

Man I really hope you don’t have to travel today, it’s a nightmare out there. Granted that’s nothing new the day before Thanksgiving, but it doesn’t make it any easier. If you aren’t stuck in traffic or waiting for a train or sitting on a tarmac, use this open thread to talk about whatever you like. Go nuts.

That video was great. What was that, 8 stolen bases?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Seven. I think it was four in the second inning alone.

    • MannyGeee

God, Varitek sucked out loud towards the end of his career there. He was not even close on all seven.

      Great times

  • D-Lite

But he calls a great game!

    • JLC 776

      He’s gritty!!!

  • pat

He showed a lot of inner strength, will, and fortitude byt not just breaking down and crying.

I liked this Kobe quote about Jack Taylor (of Grinnell College?) scoring 138 points:

Bryant, who has a shoe that bears his “Black Mamba” nickname, has a theory.

(Taylor) must have been wearing the Mambas, man. Only Mambas have no conscience to shoot the ball that much,” Bryant said.

    • MannyGeee

Classy. Even when it’s not about me, it’s all about me. I can’t wait for him to get some karmic herpes. Fuck Kobe

        + 1000000000000

      • The Big City of Dreams

It’s a joke don’t take it so seriously.

        • vicki

plus he’s confessing No Conscience. i hhhaaated for years; til the decision. now i think kobe’s a dick, but a COOL, SLICK dick.

          tim duncan, however, can burn.

    • Andy Pettitte’s Fibula

That was a disgrace having that guy shoot 108 shots in one game.

He didn’t even go back on defense and his team was pressing up 50+ points and fouling intentionally to get him the ball.

Someone on the other team scored 70. It was more like something a 10 year old would try and do in a video game than a real basketball game.

      • Yankonymous

If you took the same two teams but replaced Jack Taylor with Wilt Chamberlain, no way Chamberlain puts up 138.

        • Andy Pettitte’s Fibula

          Jack Taylor >Wilt Chamberlain????

          Maybe in the bizarro world.

      • Rocky Road Redemption

Did you read about that college’s offensive scheme? The whole thing is based on power offense and taking threes.

  • CT Yankee

“The highway’s jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive.”

Luckilly for me, I’m cooking tomorrow so I ain’t going nowhere tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

    • Pat D

My younger sister is cooking her first turkey as she hosts her first Thanksgiving in her new house.

Anything could happen, especially with 3 dogs and a 16-month old running around.

      • Austin Aunelowitzky

        Drink plenty of wine.

        • Pat D

          I hate wine.

          • RetroRob

Beer, tequila, Jack, vodka. Pick one. Dull pain.

            • Havok9120

Seriously. Don’t be a hero, Pat. Drink up.

            • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Nah, if you’re choosing Whiskey, treat yourself better then Jack. Glenlivet, or Lagavulin, or at least Johnny Walker black.

              • vicki

                maybe he likes american, macduff.

                • Havok9120

Raul is not a fan of bourbon.

Its why I’ve had him reported to HUAC.

                  • whiskey quibbler

                    … jack isn’t bourbon …

              • Neil

Scotch=whisky without the ‘e’. And I’d take Lagavulin over Glenlivet any day of the week.

          • vicki

pat, make friends with wine. wine is your friend.

      • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Good luck to her. Hopefully I will never host a holiday…

      • Pat D

I think everyone’s misunderstood. The dogs and the baby will be providing all of the entertainment. I don’t intend to help too much, just sit back and provide running commentary.

  • Zack

Varitek sucks…too bad Torre didn’t advantage of that in 04.

  • MannyGeee

bird is marinating. potatoes carrots stuffing etc tomorrow.wife is working tonight which mean she’ll nap therough the cooking.

but not travelling, so its worth it.

    • vicki

i like the two L’s; they tell me it’s a matter of whim, but i like two L’s.

  • Neil

Parents in law asleep in basement where my PC is. Sister in law laid out on couch in family room. Wife in bedroom watching Private Practice. So I’m stuck with my phone in the otherwise entertainment free living room. Holidays, eh?

    • Bo Knows

Stuff like that is why I am so happy my Uncle is an big wig at Mariotte. God bless you man, I think you need them haha

    • Pat D

This is why I’ll never spend a holiday somewhere not within driving distance.

Or ever let those who don’t live within driving distance stay at my house.

    • vicki

i’m guessing if you married somebody who’d watch private practice on purpose she’s hot.

  • I am not the droids you’re looking for…

    Chorizo stuffing.

    That is all.

  • http://hasanyoneseenmyshoe.blogspot.com/ Derwood Morris

The pick off and throw into left-center field was probably my favorite part of that video.

But seriously, though, it doesn’t matter how he played because you should’ve seen how Varitek was in the clubhouse after the game. He was a big clubhouse guy.

  • Robinson Tilapia

Going on about 11 years straight of driving out of NYC early Thanksgiving morning without a hitch. Feel bad for anyone who got stuck at Penn Station tonight.

    • RetroRob

I’ve twice taken flights on Thanskgiving and Christmas day. Very peaceful.

More peaceful, though, is staying local.

  • Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM)

Hmm. Verducci thinks Montgomery will see time in the majors this year. Interesting thought.

    • vicki

      f tom verducci.

but hell yes, rush MM. he wants to come up even more than i want him to.

    • Havok9120

Isn’t the consensus among the writers here that this summer is a reasonable expectation? Mike’s been saying 2013 for awhile now.

      • vicki

yeah but now tom verdouchey says so.

  • Wayne

Would love to have my sisters meat loaf and my godmothers roast pork. Delicious! But they are occupied or a little under the weather this year so I’ ll take what is available!

  • Willballs

I read a really interesting idea recently on one of these Yankee blogs which had my mind thinking in terms of fantasy baseball. But here goes the concept:

Trage Grandy now for best prospects the Yankees can get. You save 15 million on his last year.

Offer Hamilton a 1 year deal at 35-40 million plus incentives if he wins MVP.

    Sign Ichiro for 10 mill.

Put Hamilton in LF, Ichiro in RF, and Gardner in CF.

Just a crazy ida but it gives Hamilton another year to maybe help him get a longer deal after teams feel out the new cap system next year.

Can you imagine this lineup, lol (I know it’s a pipe dream)

    Jeter
    Ichiro
    Cano
    Hamilton
    Arod
    Tex
    DH?
    Martin
    Gardner

    • Block

That would be great. Won’t happin
