Robinson Cano will play in 2013 World Baseball Classic

MLB confirmed Robinson Cano will play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic next spring. Here’s the list of 23 players who are confirmed for the tournament so far. With Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, and Mariano Rivera all coming off surgery and Hiroki Kuroda already pulling out of the event, there’s a chance Cano will be the team’s only big league WBC representative. I suppose David Robertson could crack the Team USA bullpen, but that’s really it.

Cervelli is on Team Italy, No?

Rumor is Jeter is playing for team Eataly.

GR8…he will get hurt then we will have lost 3/4 of our infield…I can’t believe Scott Bor-ars is allowing this.

Also can believe Yankee mgmt is allowing it. The WBC is a waste…they should note allow MLB players…they can call it RWBC…the rest of the world baseball championships.

I really hate this stupid tournament

Yeah, I do too. I don’t mind the concept in a vacuum, but there’s just too much at stake for something that really just doesn’t matter. I mean, Cano is about as durable as it gets, so I’m not too worried. But still, exposing MLB players to that risk seems unnecessary.

It is dumb, because most of the top players are already playing in MLB, because it is the sole premier league. Compared to FIFA which it was in response to. Soccer has so many talented leagues, and not all of the elite talent are concentrated in one country/league. There are different leagues all over Europe, then you have Major league soccer, there is Australian, etc. Baseball has MLB, then generally Japanese baseball is considered the equivalent of the minor leagues, same with South Korea, and most of the latin America leagues are winter leagues, because all the talent goes to the US minor leagues, and is only available in offseason.

Beckham came to play for MLS and he was very talented. How often do you see a MLB star transfer to any other league when he can still play at the top of his game?

Fake an injury Cano. The Dominican people will understand.

A-Rod’s right hip playing for the US and left hip playing for the Dominican? That way it’s even for both sides.

I hate this tournamnet almost as much as those forced half-time sideline interviews with NBA and college football coaches. The players are mot in shape – what sense does that make?

    Dominican power baby

For once, it’ll be okay if he doesn’t run out the grounders.

  • A-Rod Apologist

That the players are not prepared?? That’s their problem. Japan takes this tournament seriously, those guys start preparing on January for the games and that’s why they won both WBC’s in 06 and 09. Jeez no wonder you gringos complain too much.

Will Cano hustle for this team ?
