Bichette helps River Dogs walk-off with win

Error, triple play help Yankees take series opener from Orioles
Mark Teixeira was not cleared to swing a bat on Friday

Josh Norris says OF Slade Heathcott did not play tonight due to a stiff neck. Hopefully it’s nothing serious and he’ll be back in the lineup in a day or two, but you can never be too sure with neck problems.

Triple-A Scranton was rained out for the third straight day. They’re going to try to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

Double-A Trenton (5-3 win over Richmond)

  • CF Ramon Flores: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • DH Tyler Austin: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — been in a bit of a rut
  • C J.R. Murphy: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB — six hits in his last 13 at-bats (.462)
  • 3B Rob Segedin: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • RF Neil Medchill: 3-4, 1 RBI — has been awesome early on
  • LHP Francisco Rondon: 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 3/3 GB/FB — 34 of 60 pitches were strikes (57%) … still wish he was working out of the Triple-A bullpen, this seems kinda pointless

High-A Tampa (5-0 loss to Daytona)

  • CF Mason Williams: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
  • 2B Angelo Gumbs: 0-4, 1 K — now hitless in his last 24 at-bats
  • LF Ben Gamel: 2-4, 1 2B — 13 hits and six doubles in seven games
  • C Gary Sanchez: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Shane Greene: 6 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HB, 10/2 GB/FB — dying to see what he can do out of the bullpen

Low-A Charleston (2-1 win over Augusta in 11 innings, walk-off style)

  • SS Cito Culver: 0-5, 3 K
  • 2B Rob Refsnyder: 2-5, 1 R, 1 K
  • 1B Greg Bird: 0-3, 2 BB — ten walks and ten strikeouts in nine games
  • 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — walk-off single
  • C Peter O’Brien: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — mashing, as he should at this level
  • RHP Gabe Encinas: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 7/2 GB/FB — 53 of 71 pitches were strikes (75%) … love it, awesome stuff

huh.. no idea how this happened.

Poor Slade. I had a stiff neck last night. Took a viagra and it got caught in my throat.

    • Thud

You must be very flexible. Next time just pay for it.

  • emac2

For a shorter DotF I sure get a lot of info about your feelings for Rondon getting a chance as a starter.

Do you think he’s going to be enough of a difference maker that a few months in the AA rotation matters?

  • pat

I don’t think there’s much difference between starting in AA and relieving in Scranton. If anything starting in AA is better because it builds up arm strength and gives more opportunity to work on stuff.

More importantly, you can never be too sure with Slade Heathcott.

  • Deathstroke Heathcott

  • nycsportzfan

The former OKlahoma St produc Medchill is raking! We always knew about the power, but is he turning into a actual prospect before our eyes?

    • Tremont

No. He turns 26 in a couple of months and has never done anything in a full season league. Not a toolsy guy either.

  • trr

How about J.R. Murphy? Maybe we have something there?

    • JonS

People will knock him since he’s repeating the level.

    • Cool Lester Smooth

Yeah, it looks like he’s back.

  • gleb

    lol at culver.
what a wasted first round pick

  • dan

just remember most relievers are failed starters
