Vidal Nuno will start Game Two of Monday’s doubleheader

Granderson picks up three hits, plays right in latest rehab game

Left-hander Vidal Nuno will start the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Indians, Joe Girardi confirmed. David Phelps starts the first game. Brett Marshall will apparently be on standby in case an extra long man needs to be added between games.

Nuno, 25, will be making his first career big league start. He last pitched 13 days ago, throwing 38 pitches in long relief. That is his only big league appearance to date. Nune hasn’t started a game in three weeks, but I’m sure they’ll be able to squeeze 80 or so pitches out of him anyway. If they get five innings, they’ll probably be thrilled. Adam Warren is the obvious piggyback candidate if he isn’t needed in game one.

I’m glad to see he’s getting a chance. But it’s been a long time since he’s pitched. I can’t imagine he’s going to be sharp.

That was my reaction. His change is a feel pitch, so hopefully he has good command.

They’d be thrilled if he gets through 5, indeed. The Indians have rocketed to the top of their division since we last saw them. We could have swept 4 if these games had been played when scheduled. Now we’ll be going in with our bottom 2 starters and Robertson/Mo might not be available. Hope we can split and get back home.

Would have been Hughes/Nova back then, and neither were clicking. They are not a better team, they are simply on a hot streak.

Yup, he’s certainly been on the Girardi plan…

When you look at the difference in talent between the two rotations you wouldn’t think it was possible for them to have the better matchup in two consecutive games. But Masterson is definitely better than Phelps and I don’t think there is too much argument that Bauer is more gifted than Nuno.

Clevland hasen’t seen Phelps much, nor have they seen Nuno at all. The way the yanks have been playing, it woudlen’t surprise me if they swept the twin bill.

I’m very happy to see him getting the chance tommorow, as hes earned it. This is who i’d of went with.

It would be nice to see him more than once since he was called up. They should have given Kelley a rest and give Nuno some playing time. He was like the best pitcher in spring training. Hope he can be in the rotation permanently next year.
