Ramirez roughed up in latest Triple-A start

Pineda lasts three innings in latest rehab start
Game 81: Halfway Mark

Some notes:

  • LHP Omar Luis Rodriguez threw a simulated game in Tampa yesterday, according to George King. The 20-year-old put a little too much weight on his 5-foor-11 frame while waiting for his visa to be approved a few months ago. Rodriguez signed for $4M last summer and was the team’s last big money international signing before the new spending restrictions kicked in.
  • IF Josh Bell and OF Adonis Garcia were both activated off the Triple-A Scranton DL, reports Chad Jennings. Given the big league lineup, I suppose it’s not out of the question that one (or both) of those guys gets the call at some point in the coming days and weeks.
  • To clear room on the Triple-A roster, OF Cody Grice and UTIL Casey Stevenson were sent to Double-A Trenton according to Mike Ashmore. OF Shane Brown was placed on the Double-A DL and IF Francisco Rosario was sent to Low-A Charleston to clear roster spots for the Thunder.

  • LHP Cesar Cabral: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 0/2 GB/FB — 11 of 18 pitches were strikes (61%)
  • RHP Danny Burawa: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0/2 GB/FB — 16 of 25 pitches were strikes (64%)

High-A Tampa‘s game was suspended due to rain with one out in the bottom of the first. They’ll complete the game tomorrow. Here’s the box score if you can’t wait that long.

Low-A Charleston was rained out. They’ll make the game up as part of a doubleheader late next month.

Short Season Staten Island (6-2 win over Aberdeen)

  • DH Michael O’Neill: 2-4, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — 13 hits in 44 at-bats (.295) so far, but only two extra-base hits (both doubles)

  • LF Daniel Lopez: 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB

Ramirez needs to learn to be stingier with his pitches.

    • https://twitter.com/AngeloInNY Angelo

Honestly, what does that even mean?

He threw 58% strikes. Would you prefer if he threw outside the strike zone more than that?

Don’t look now, but he’s allowed 12 walks in 17 innings with Scranton.

I’d prefer if he became less “stingy” and pray for some strikes.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting)

Stingier with his pitches, not with his strikes.
As in – be more efficient. Pitch deeper into games. More strikes.

        • https://twitter.com/AngeloInNY Angelo

If that’s what he means, that’s fine. But I interpreted that differently. Obviously.

      • Bo Knows

8 of those walks came in 6 innings, his first two starts

Ramirez needs to be in AA… he has two pitches and is working on a 3rd one (that clearly needs work) and they bump him up to AAA after just 8 or 9 starts in AA?

I don’t get why they pass guys up to AAA so fast. They did that with both Betances and Banuelos – neither really had the performance to warrant a promo, yet for some reason they did it anyway.

Ramirez has plenty to work on (specifically the breaking pitch), still has to build up innings (I think his max in one year is about 115), so I don’t get the point putting him up against much tougher competition so quickly.

  • Steve

Its time to call up Ruiz and play him against lefties at 1B.

  • capitalT

is the new park at AAA a hitters park?

  • your mom

    Fuckin rain.

Jose Ramirez was dropping his arm angle to throw his changeups because he could not get a feel for his changeups. To me that may be a sign he is not ready for aaa. I thought initially they shoul have kept him in aa from may to late August. They could be retarding his progress by having him in aaa. He has only pitched well once in aaa. Whoevers idea it was it is turning out to be a bad idea. You don’t want his delivery screwed up! I say they should send him back to Trenton! Only veterans should alter delivery plus it took him a while to develope his delivery. Yankees would be breaking what they worked hard to develope in him. He could also hurt his arm. I am having my fingers crossed that he does not hurt his arm and stays with his normal delivery. Did he lower his arm angle when he threw six shutout innings last time if he did I don’t think it’s a good idea cause he could lose his mechanics and arm slot! It could be fools gold for him to throw that way even if he pitches well for one game that way. I have to see more video recently from him.

I don’t wanna be that guy, but was Ramirez really “roughed up?” Pretty liberal use of that term. Seems like Mike’s still locked onto the idea that Ramirez shouldn’t be in AAA.

And would they just sign Aaron Judge already? That SIY roster is kind of a snoozer. He’s back to being a Fresno State outfielder on Twitter, so I guess they’re playing hardball.

And we were all worried about Clarkin…

Really hope Judge signs. Tons of crazy upside.
